Abstract The active distribution network (ADN) can obtain measurement data, estimate system states, and control distributed energy resources (DERs) and flexible loads to ensure voltage stability. However, the ADN is more vulnerable to cyber attacks due to the recent wave of digitization and automation efforts. In this article, false data injection (FDI) attacks are focused on and they are classified into two types, that is, type I attacks on measurement data and type II attacks on control commands. After studying the impact of these two FDI attacks on the ADN, a new threat is revealed called coordinated FDI attack, which can maximize the voltage deviation by coordinating type I and type II FDI attacks. From the attacker's perspective, the scheme of CFDI is proposed and an algorithm is developed to find the optimal attack strategy. The feasibility of CFDI attacks has been validated on a smart distribution testbed. Moreover, simulation results on an ADN benchmark have demonstrated that CFDI attacks could cause remarkable voltage deviation that may deteriorate the stability of the distribution network. Moreover, the impact of CFDI attacks is higher than pure type I or type II attacks. To mitigate the threat, some countermeasures against CFDI attacks are also proposed.

Abstract Remaining useful fatigue life monitoring of wind turbine drivetrains is important. However, the implementation of real‐time monitoring often faces efficiency and accuracy challenges. In order to resolve this, this paper proposes a vibration‐based damage monitoring digital twin (VBDM‐DT) that enables the online intelligent evaluation of wind turbine gearboxes, using gear tooth surface durability as an example fatigue mode. The VBDM‐DT integrates a random wind load model, a high‐fidelity dynamics model, and a fatigue damage model. The random wind load model takes the wind speed from the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) as input to estimate the input torque of the drivetrain in real time. Simultaneously, VBDM‐DT uses the vibration signals from the condition monitoring system (CMS) to intelligently calibrate the dynamics model, allowing it to be continuously adjusted and optimized in response to actual vibrations. The fatigue damage model takes the real‐time dynamic loads estimated by the high‐fidelity dynamic model as input to achieve real‐time fatigue damage monitoring of key components in the wind turbine gearbox. Applying the VBDM‐DT model to a 2 MW wind turbine gearbox, the results indicate that the model provides satisfactory accuracy in estimating input loads and good adaptability in intelligent calibration of the dynamic model. Based on this model, the fatigue life estimation for gears and bearings is more credible and reliable.

Abstract Background The geographic patterns of plant diversity in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) have been widely studied, but few studies have focused on wetland plants. This study quantified the geographic patterns of wetland plant diversity in the QTP through a comprehensive analysis of taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional indices. Methods Based on a large number of floras, monographs, specimens and field survey data, we constructed a comprehensive dataset of 1,958 wetland plant species in the QTP. Species richness (SR), phylogenetic diversity (PD), functional diversity (FD), net relatedness index (NRI) and net functional relatedness index (NFRI) were used to assess the taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity of wetland plants. We explored the relationships between the diversity indices and four categories of environmental variables (i.e. energy-water, climate seasonality, topography and human activities). We used four diversity indices, namely endemic species richness, weighted endemism, phylogenetic endemism and functional endemism, together with the categorical analysis of neo- and paleo-endemism (CANAPE), to identify the endemic centers of wetland plants in the QTP. Results SR, PD and FD were highly consistent and showed a decreasing trend from southeast to northwest, decreasing with increasing elevation. The phylogenetic structure of wetland plant assemblages in most parts of the plateau is mainly clustered. The functional structure of wetland plant assemblages in the southeast of the plateau is overdispersed, while the functional structure of wetland plant assemblages in other areas is clustered. Energy-water and climate seasonality were the two most important categories of variables affecting wetland plant diversity. Environmental variables had a greater effect on the functional structure of wetland plants than on the phylogenetic structure. This study identified seven endemic centres, mainly in the Himalayas and Hengduan Mountains. Conclusions Climate and topography are the main factors determining the geographic distribution of wetland plant diversity at large scales. The majority of grid cells in the QTP with significant phylogenetic endemism were mixed and super-endemism. At large scales, compared to climate and topography, human activities may not have a negative impact on wetland plant diversity in the QTP.

Ophiuroids, the most diverse group of echinoderms, inhabit a vast array of ecological niches and play vital roles in benthic ecosystems as suspension feeders, scavengers and opportunists. Despite the important ecological roles played by Ophiuroidea, their evolutionary history and phylogenetic relationship is not yet fully understood. In this study, 47 mitochondrial genomes of ophiuroids, including 21 newly sequenced ones, were analyzed. tRNA duplication was firstly discovered in four species and a new start codon was identified for Ophiuroidea. Eighteen phylogenetic trees based on mitochondrial genomes consistently supported two major lineages, Ophintegrida and Euryophiurida. It further confirmed the monophyly of Euryalida and Ophiurida, respectively, as well as families represented by multiple species. Among 18 trees, only the two ML trees based on amino acid sequences using IQtree method supported monophyly of Amphilepidida and Ophiacanthida, consistent with current phylogenetic system of Ophiuroidea. This result highlighted the effect of phylogenetic analysis methods and datasets on tree topology, indicating that amino acid sequence data maybe more suitable for higher taxonomic level phylogenetic analysis of ophiuroids than nucleotide sequences. Four new gene orders of 13 protein-coding genes + two rRNAs and 12 new gene orders of all 37 genes were identified. Mitochondrial gene orders were highly variable in Ophiacanthida, but were extremely conserved in Eurylida. Additionally, both branch lengths and estimated positive selection varied among the four orders, and a positive relationship between branch lengths and mitochondrial gene rearrangement rates was revealed, suggesting distinctly different evolutionary history among the four major clades of Ophiuroidea. Overall, we (1) reconstructed the phylogenetic relationship based on mitochondrial genome, supporting the current phylogenetic system in Ophiuroidea, (2) revealed a high variability in mitochondrial gene rearrangement among the four orders, (3) provided the first evidence to link gene rearrangement and nucleotide substitution in Echinodermata.

Supervised machine learning (SML) has become a crucial tool for estimating water quality parameters (WQPs) from satellite images. Its effectiveness relies heavily on synchronised in-situ datasets covering diverse water bodies. However, collecting such datasets is time-consuming, resulting in temporal gaps between sampling and imaging. In addition, the in situ dataset may exhibit an imbalance. These imperfections could introduce uncertainties to SML-derived models, compromising the accuracy of the WQP estimates. Using in situ data collected automatically every four hours, the estimation of both optically active parameters (OAPs) and non-optically active parameters (nOAPs) in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River (MRYR) serves as an example to illustrate the importance of this challenge in freshwater remote sensing. Additionally, the investigation was extended to estimate OAPs and nOAPs in lakes of Wuhan through manual sampling measurements, thereby bridging theoretical insights with real-world applications. Employing four ML algorithms, the SML-based models for each WQP were calibrated using in situ datasets with different spatio-temporal distributions. The results demonstrated that precision decreased with increasing time gaps, whereas most nOAPs (COD, TP, TN, pH, and DO) showed greater robustness to the time gap than the OAPs (turbidity, Secchi depth, Chl-a, and algae density). Multi-category text classification aims to assign labels under multiple categories to each sample in the dataset. However, most researchers overlook the relationship between labels and do not effectively incorporate text and label information. To address these problems, we propose a label embedding joint cross-attention (LEJCA) model for multi-category text classification using label relations and text information. Specifically, we first input the characters of the text into the Pre-training Language Model to obtain the representation of the text. In addition, a label embedding method based on graph representation is proposed to realize multi-dimensional mining and quantitative description of label relations. Finally, a joint cross-attention (JCA) model is proposed to integrate text and label embedding representations. Experimental results on our own constructed dataset E-government document show that LEJCA ’s micro-average F1 score is improved by $9.7~{\%}$ compared to the baseline’s best result.

Orchidaceae stands as one of the “flagship” groups in global biodiversity conservation, attracting significant attention from researchers in China. Previous studies have focused on taxonomic diversity, neglecting the integration of phylogeny and functional aspects. Here, we have leveraged a large dataset of distributions, evolutionary relationships, and functional traits of orchids in China to analyze geographic patterns of species richness (SR), weighted endemism (WE), phylogenetic diversity (PD), phylogenetic endemism (PE), functional diversity (FD), and functional endemism (FE). Furthermore, we analyzed the deviations between PD (or FD) and SR (PDdev, and FDdev), as well as between PE (or FE) and WE (PEdev, and FEdev), taking into account climatic and environmental variables. We also delineated the priority protection and survey areas of orchid plants in China. Our results revealed that the geographic patterns of SR, WE, PD, PE, FD, and FE for orchids generally exhibited similar trends. However, there were notable inconsistencies in the geographical patterns of PDdev, FDdev, PEdev, and FEdev, which might be related to the different environmental responses of these four diversity deviation metrics. We have pinpointed six priority conservation areas for orchids in China, i.e., southeasterrn Xizang, western Yunnan, central Yunan, the Karst area at the border of Guizhou and Guangxi, the border of Guangdong and Guangxi, and Taiwan Island. In addition, we have also identified certain priority survey areas for orchids, encompassing southeastern Xizang and other crucial locales. These findings will guide future conservation and research efforts aimed at safeguarding the rich biodiversity of orchids in China.

A new wood-fall-associated maldanid discovered at a depth of 2,321 m in the South China Sea is here morphologically and molecularly described as Nicomache tigilli sp. nov. The new species is characterized as having 21 chaetigers, a prostomium rounded anterior, an arched cephalic keel, anterior ends of nuchal grooves curved outwards, 3–6 acicular spines on chaetigers 1–3, notopodia with simply long and narrow capillary chaetae, and an anal funnel with triangular, unequal-sized anal cirri. Our molecular analyses of the genus Nicomache, encompassing COI, 16S, 18S, and 28S genes support establishing the new species, which appear phylogenetically closely related to the other species of the genus from reduced habitats.

Comprehensive research spans ships, accommodations, dining, and various activities, revealing emissions surpassing nature's limits. The study delves into intricate emission models, emphasizing energy-intensive sectors.Empirical findings underscore a pressing disparity: daily emissions far exceed the island's absorption and purification capacities, underscoring the urgency for intervention. To restore equilibrium, the study proposes recalibrating tourism by aligning it with the island's natural resources. Forest and seawater capacities emerge as vital benchmarks for sustainable tourist numbers. Proposed strategies emphasize rigorous energy conservation and emissions reduction, offering a roadmap for sustainable development.These robust findings provide an essential scientific basis for Fenjie Island's future. They illuminate a path toward balanced growth, crucial for harmonizing economic prosperity and environmental preservation. Informed by this research, policymakers can steer the island's trajectory, ensuring a sustainable, thriving future amidst the challenges of modern tourism..

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) harbours the largest wetland complex in China, with a relatively high diversity of wetland plants. While there has been extensive research on the α-diversity of various plant groups in the QTP, the study of β-diversity specifically in wetland plants has been limited. In this study, we quantified the geographic pattern of wetland plant β-diversity from three dimensions: taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional. We assessed the relative importance of geographic distance, climatic distance, environmental distance and topographic distance on the pattern of β-diversity. The results indicate a high consistency in the geographic pattern of wetland plant β-diversity across the three dimensions. β-diversity is high in the mountainous regions at the edge of the plateau and relatively low in the plateau platform. The turnover component contributes more to taxonomic β-diversity than nestedness, whereas the opposite is true for phylogenetic and functional β-diversity. Furthermore, taxonomic β-diversity is higher than phylogenetic and functional β-diversity. The geographic patterns of taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity of wetland plants in the QTP are jointly influenced by environmental filtering and dispersal limitation. Climatic variables (temperature seasonality, annual precipitation, precipitation seasonality and annual mean temperature) and topographic variables (elevation variation coefficient, elevation and slope) were identified as the main factors influencing wetland plant β-diversity in the QTP. Overall, this study contributes to elucidating the evolutionary history and formation mechanisms of wetland plant communities in the QTP, and reveals the large-scale patterns of wetland plant diversity.

Efficient separation of CH4 from N2 is essential for the purification of methane from nitrogen. In order to address this problem, composite materials consisting of rod-shaped SBA-15-based UiO-66-Br2 were synthesized for the purpose of separating a CH4/N2 mixture. The materials were characterized via PXRD, N2 adsorption–desorption, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, and TGA. The adsorption isotherms of CH4 and N2 under standard pressure conditions for the composites were determined and subsequently compared. The study revealed that the composites were formed through the growth of MOF nanocrystals on the surfaces of the SBA-15 matrix. The enhancements in surface area and adsorption capacity of hybrid materials were attributed to the structural modifications resulting from the interactions between surface silanol groups and metal centers. The selectivity of the composites towards a gas mixture of CH4 and N2 was assessed utilizing the Langmuir adsorption equation. The results of the analysis revealed that the U6B2S5/SBA-15 sample exhibited the greatest selectivity for CH4/N2 adsorption compared to the other samples, with an adsorption selectivity parameter (S) of 20.06. Additional research is necessary to enhance the enrichment of methane from CH4/N2 mixtures using SBA-15-based metal-organic framework materials.

Estimation of primary production in Qinghai Lake is crucial for the aquatic ecosystem management in the northeastern Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. This study used the Vertically Generalized Production Model (VGPM) with ocean color satellite data to estimate phytoplankton primary productivity (PP) in Qinghai Lake during the non-freezing period from 2002 to 2023. Field data from 2018 and 2023 were used to calibrate and verify the model. The results showed a seasonal trend in chlorophyll-a and PP, with the lowest values in May and peaks from June to September. Qinghai Lake was identified as oligotrophic, with annual mean chlorophyl-a of 0.24–0.40 µg/L and PP of 40–369 mg C/m2/day. The spatial distribution of PP was low in the center of the lake and high near the shores and estuaries. An interesting periodic increasing trend in PP every 2 to 4 years was observed from 2002 to 2023. This study established a remote sensing method for PP assessment in Qinghai Lake, revealing seasonal and interannual variations and providing a useful example for monitoring large saline mountain lakes.

Total phosphorus (TP, a non-optical sensitivity parameter) has become the primary pollutant in the Yangtze River, the third largest river in the world. It is strongly correlated with turbidity (an optical sensitivity parameter) in rivers. In this study, we constructed a turbidity-mediated TP retrieval model using Sentinel-2 observations and field-measured daily-scale water quality. The model was successfully applied to estimate the temporal and spatial variations of TP concentration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River (MYR) from 2020 to 2023. Our results show: (1) the model accuracy of TP concentration retrieval with turbidity is significantly higher (R2 = 0.71, MAPE = 15.78%) than that for the model without turbidity (R2 = 0.62, MAPE = 16.38%); (2) the turbidity and TP concentration in the MYR is higher in summer and autumn than in winter and spring; and (3) the turbidity and total phosphorus (TP) concentration of the Yangtze River showed a significant increase after passing through Dongting Lake (p < 0.05).

ABSTRACT The plastic film materials are a widely used agricultural means of production. Recently, two types of new agricultural film mulches are developed and are used popularly. They are ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and polyolefin (PO) film mulches. The transmittances of film mulches are related to thermal reservation and plant photosynthesis. We experimentally measure transmittances of several EVA and PO film mulches under different wavelengths. We also find that the transmittances of mulches vary with light intensity change at one wavelength. The variable transmittances for these mulches are also measured in experiments. These data measured can provides help for agricultural production and accurate numerical simulation for the establishment microclimate of plastic greenhouse, even the degradation of plastic films.

Super-resolution mapping (SRM) can effectively predict the spatial distribution of land cover classes within mixed pixels at a higher spatial resolution than the original remotely sensed imagery. The uncertainty of land cover fraction errors within mixed pixels is one of the most important factors affecting SRM accuracy. Studies have shown that SRM methods using deep learning techniques have significantly improved land cover mapping accuracy but have not coped well with spectral–spatial errors. This study proposes an end-to-end SRM model using a spectral–spatial generative adversarial network (SGS) with the direct input of multispectral remotely sensed imagery, which deals with spectral–spatial error. The proposed SGS comprises the following three parts: first, cube-based convolution for spectral unmixing is adopted to generate land cover fraction images. Second, a residual-in-residual dense block fully and jointly considers spectral and spatial information and reduces spectral errors. Third, a relativistic average GAN is designed as a backbone to further improve the super-resolution performance and reduce spectral–spatial errors. SGS was tested in one synthetic and two realistic experiments with multi/hyperspectral remotely sensed imagery as the input, comparing the results with those of hard classification and several classic SRM methods. The results showed that SGS performed well at reducing land cover fraction errors, reconstructing spatial details, removing unpleasant and unrealistic land cover artifacts, and eliminating false recognition.

Flexible micro/nano motors responsive to light sources are highly desirable. Conventional photothermal (PT) techniques have provided significant light-actuation methods; however, the dynamic responses of these devices in high frequency domain are severely restricted by the frequency response limitation. To overcome this limitation, the thermal-, electric-, and acoustic-near field interactions in the PT process and its accompanied photoacoustic (PA) process are investigated, and a plasmon enhanced PA actuation method is proposed. The significant improvement in PA oscillation by strong localized surface plasmon resonance provides a powerful means to realize a broadband response laser motor without the frequency response limitation. This PA laser motor could generate PA oscillation of over 5 µm by pulse laser with repetition frequencies of 1 Hz to 20 kHz and has a maximum value of 18.8 µm at the mechanical resonant frequency. It demonstrates the effectiveness of this PA laser motor in offsetting the shortcomings of the PT actuation method. The device requires no electrical or chemical energy, and it has potential benefits, such as bionic research into insect flapping, vocal-cord vibration, and muscular movement in fields including micro/nano physics, biochemistry, and clinical medicine.

Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous thrombectomy for treating postpartum iliofemoral vein thrombosis. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on patients with continuous postpartum acute symptomatic iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis who were treated in our center, including all patients who underwent pharmacomechanical thrombolysis (PMT) or only catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) (study group), and patients that received simple anticoagulation treatment (control group). We evaluated the incidence of lower extremity postthrombotic syndrome, recanalization rate of lower extremity veins, and complications in the study and control groups. Results Overall, 72 postpartum women were included in this study, including the PMT combined with CDT group (14 cases, 15 limbs), CDT alone group (26 cases, 27 limbs), and anticoagulant therapy alone group (32 cases, 34 limbs). The thrombectomy group completed the treatment with a technical success rate of 100%, and no serious bleeding complications occurred. The patency rate of lower limb veins in the thrombectomy group was 85.09 ± 16.51% after treatment and 82.60 ± 21.45% after 1 year. Abstract The South China Sea (SCS) basin is hypothesized to host distinct and bathymetrically differentiated fauna due to its semi‐enclosed basin and three‐layer circulation system. To test this hypothesis, three cow falls are artificially deployed at separate depths (655, 1604, and 3402 m) on Zhongnan seamount in the middle SCS, and the associated worms, Sirsoe spp. are selected as targets to explore their diversity, phylogeny, and zonation pattern. Analyses of collected specimens reveal three new Sirsoe species, which were then nominally described and named as S. polita sp. nov. (655 m), S. nanhaiensis sp. nov. (1604 and 3402 m), and S. feitiana sp. nov. (3402 m), and one known species (S. balaenophila lineage II). Metabarcoding analyses on cow‐fall sediments reveal seven additional Operated Taxonomic Units (OTUs) assigned to Sirsoe, increasing the Sirsoe diversity to 10 species/OTUs in the middle SCS. Their distribution along depth shows increasing diversity toward the deeper sites. Phylogenetic inferences recover S. polita closely related to S. alucia from the Southwest Atlantic, forming a lineage deeply divergent from others. The nine deep‐water species/OTUs are scattered in three distinct lineages showing closer phylogenetic relationships between 1604‐ and 3402‐m counterparts. The lineage formed by S. naihaiensis and S. feitiana is distinct from other non‐SCS congeners both morphologically and genetically. These results suggest multiple independent invasions of Sirsoe to the SCS, a new lineage potentially endemic to the SCS, and a strong zonation pattern related to depth, especially between the shallow (655 m) and the deep (1604 and 3402 m) sites. The semi‐enclosed feature combined with the physical structure of the SCS may contribute to such a pattern. In many shoulder joint diseases, there is often a combination of long head biceps tendon（LHBT）pathology. Biceps pathology is one of the main causes of shoulder pain, and it is effectively managed with tenodesis. Biceps tenodesis can be performed in a variety of ways with different fixation and at different locations. This article introduces an all-arthroscopic suprapectoral biceps tenodesis technique with a 2-suture anchor. Double 360° Lasso Loop is used to fix the biceps tendon, and only one puncture of the biceps tendon was required, which caused little damage to the tendon and was not easy for the suture to slip and fail.

Dorvilleids belonging to Ophryotrocha Claparède & Mecznikow, 1869 are known from deep-sea hydrothermal vents in the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian and Southern Oceans. However, how they colonized and diversified in these ecosystems has not been assessed in detail. Here, a collection of Pacific hydrothermal vent Ophryotrocha was examined using morphology and DNA markers (COI, 16S and H3). Five new species were revealed, largely expanding the diversity of the group at this habitat type. They are Ophryotrocha charlottae sp. nov., O. kailae sp. nov., O. marinae sp. nov., O. pruittae sp. nov. from eastern Pacific, and O. bohnorum sp. nov. from the western Pacific. Phylogenetic analyses based on the concatenated alignments of all three genes suggest vent habitants have been colonized several times independently within Ophryotrocha. One clade of six vent species was recovered, indicative of diversification following a colonization of hydrothermal vents, likely in the eastern Pacific. An Indian Ocean species, O. jiaolongi, was nested inside this clade and was closely related to one of the new species from the Gulf of California, diverging from it by less than 4% on COI.

The hairy snails of the genus Alviniconcha are representative deep-sea hydrothermal vent animals distributed across the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. Out of six known species in the genus Alviniconcha, only one nominal species of A. marisindica was found in the Indian Ocean from the Carlsberg Ridge (CR), Central Indian Ridge (CIR) to the northern part of Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR) and Southeast Indian Ridge (SEIR). Recently, the Alviniconcha snails were found at three new vent fields, named Onnare, Onbada, and Onnuri, in the northern CIR, which promotes a more comprehensive phylogeographic study of this species. Here, we examined the phylogeography and connectivity of the Alviniconcha snails among seven vent fields representing the CR and CIR based on DNA sequence data of a mitochondrial COI gene and two protein-coding nuclear genes. Phylogenetic inferences revealed that the Alviniconcha snails of the newly found in the northern CIR and two vent fields of Wocan and Tianxiu in the CR were divergent with the previously identified A. marisindica in the southern CIR and mitochondrial COI data supported the divergence with at least greater than 3% sequence divergence. Population structure analyses based on the three genetic markers detected a phylogeographic boundary between Onnuri and Solitaire that divides the whole snail populations into northern and southern groups with a low migration rate. The high degree of genetic disconnection around the ‘Onnuri’ boundary suggests that the Alviniconcha snails in the Indian Ocean may undergo allopatric speciation. The border may similarly act as a dispersal barrier to many other vent species co-distributed in the CIR. This study would expand understanding the speciation and connectivity of vent species in the Indian Ocean.

Based on the unit life and death technology, the dynamic evolution process of soil loss is considered, and a pipe-soil nonlinear coupling model of buried pipelines passing through the collapse area is constructed. The analysis shows that after the third layer of soil is lost, the existence of the “pipe-soil separation” phenomenon can be confirmed, which then supplements the assumption that “pipe-soil is always in contact” in the elastic foundation beam theory. Calculation of settlement deformation of buried pipelines It needs to be divided into two stages: cooperative deformation and non-cooperative deformation. Taking the settlement prediction of buried pipelines as the goal, the particle swarm algorithm (PSO) was used to optimize the number of neurons, Dropout, and Batch-size in the long short-term memory network (LSTM) structure. The optimization results were 60, 0.001, and 100, respectively. The PSO-LSTM model proposed in this article can accurately describe the dynamic evolution process of buried pipelines and has better prediction accuracy than the modified Gaussian curve method and LSTM neural network model. The use of this model can provide a reference for safety risk management, disaster early warning, and intelligent monitoring when buried pipelines suffer from soil collapse disasters.

Climate change is a crucial factor impacting the geographical distribution of plants and potentially increases the risk of invasion for certain species, especially for aquatic plants dispersed by water flow. Here, we combined six algorithms provided by the biomod2 platform to predict the changes in global climate-suitable areas for five species of Hydrocharis (Hydrocharitaceae) (H. chevalieri, H. dubia, H. laevigata, H. morsus-ranae, and H. spongia) under two current and future carbon emission scenarios. Our results show that H. dubia, H. morsus-ranae, and H. laevigata had a wide range of suitable areas and a high risk of invasion, while H. chevalieri and H. spongia had relatively narrow suitable areas. In the future climate scenario, the species of Hydrocharis may gain a wider habitat area, with Northern Hemisphere species showing a trend of migration to higher latitudes and the change in tropical species being more complex. The high-carbon-emission scenario led to greater changes in the habitat area of Hydrocharis. Therefore, we recommend strengthening the monitoring and reporting of high-risk species and taking effective measures to control the invasion of Hydrocharis species.

Composition analysis in wine is gaining increasing attention because it can provide information about the wine quality, source, and nutrition. In this work, in situ liquid secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) was applied to 14 representative wines, including six wines manufactured by a manufacturer in Washington State, United States, four Cabernet Sauvignon wines, and four Chardonnay wines from other different manufacturers and locations. In situ liquid SIMS has the unique advantage of simultaneously examining both organic and inorganic compositions from liquid samples. Principal component analysis (PCA) of SIMS spectra showed that red and white wines can be clearly differentiated according to their aromatic and oxygen-contained organic species. Furthermore, the identities of different wines, especially the same variety of wines, can be enforced with a combination of both organic and inorganic species. Meanwhile, in situ liquid SIMS is sample-friendly, so liquid samples can be directly analyzed without any prior sample dilution or separation. Taken together, we demonstrate the great potential of in situ liquid SIMS in applications related to the molecular investigation of various liquid samples in food science.

Eutrophication of lakes harms aquatic organisms, changes the function of lakes and causes water pollution, which has affected global public health. As an internationally important wetland reserve, Honghu Lake is polluted to varying degrees and the eutrophication trend has accelerated. The objective of this study is to quarterly monitor and assess the trophic status of Honghu Lake from 2000 to 2021 using the trophic level index (TLI). The TLI was retrieved by developing a semi-empirical model based on radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), air temperature and water level data were added to the model as input parameters, forming a control group with the model that did not include air temperature and water level data. Based on 178 Landsat images from 2000 to 2021, the eutrophication status of the Honghu Lake over the last 20 years was successfully determined. The main findings are as follows: 1) The accuracy of TLI retrieval model, with air temperature and water level data included (R2 = 0.723, RMSE = 4.971), is significantly higher than that without air temperature and water level data (R2 = 0.197, RMSE = 10.453); 2) The eutrophication level of the waters in the northwestern part of Honghu Lake was higher than those observed in other lake water; 3) There were significant seasonal fluctuations in the eutrophication of Honghu Lake. The highest TLI values were observed in summer and autumn, while the lowest values were observed in winter and spring; 4) The eutrophication trend of the Honghu Lake has significantly accelerated from 2013 onwards, showing a change in eutrophication status, from light eutrophic to mid-eutrophic. Our results indicate that the TLI retrieval method with air temperature and water level is more predictive. Moreover, the eutrophication status for the entire lake from 2000 to 2021 was determined, which may contribute to the protection of the water environment.

Organic-rich continental shale, widespread in the Sichuan Basin during the deposition of the Jurassic Dongyuemiao Member (J1d), is considered the next shale hydrocarbon exploration target in southern China. To identify a shale gas sweetspot and reduce exploration risk, it is of great significance to determine the organic matter (OM) enrichment mechanism of J1d shale. In this study, based on sedimentological characteristics and organic matter content, high-resolution major and trace elements were systematically analyzed to demonstrate terrigenous influx, paleoredox, paleosalinity, paleoproductivity, and paleoclimate. The 1st section interval of the J1d 1st submember is dominated by shallow lake subfacies, while the other intervals have the characteristic of semideep to deep lake subfacies. The 1st submember interval of J1d lacustrine shale is characterized by the warmest-humid paleoclimate, strongest weathering degree, highest terrigenous input, moderate paleoproductivity, and paleoredox condition. Within the Dongyuemiao 1st submember, the 4th section interval has the highest paleoproductivity and the most oxygen-deficient condition in bottom water. During the deposition period of the 2nd submember, the sedimentary environment turned to a cold-dry paleoclimate, weak weathering degree, low terrigenous input, low paleosalinity, and high paleoproductivity. Under the background of semideep and deep lake, the terrigenous OM input plays the most critical role in controlling OM enrichment. Moreover, the high primary productivity of lake surface water and the suboxic condition of lake bottom water contribute to the formation of relatively higher TOC lacustrine shale interval in the 4th section of 1st submember.

The Jurassic Dongyuemiao Member is the most promising target for lacustrine shale gas exploration in Sichuan Basin. By integrating SEM, NMR, LTNA, and MICP experiments, and other basic measurements, the nanoscale pore category and structure and the corresponding controlling factors of Dongyuemiao lacustrine shale in Eastern Sichuan Basin are studied. The results denote that organic pores comprise primary pores within plant debris and secondary pores within bitumen. Inorganic pores are composed of intraparticle pores within calcite particles, intercrystalline pores between pyrite crystals, and interparticle pores between different minerals. The 4th Section lacustrine shale of Dongyuemiao Member has the best pore structure, exhibiting high organic pore proportion, large amounts of gas adsorption, and parallel plate-shaped pore morphology. Micropores (2 nm). Quartz does not significantly affect the nanoscale pore formation. The intraparticle pores within calcite particles constitute part of mesopore–macropore but not micropores. Clay minerals are conducive to the formation of micropores but play a negative role in the formation of mesopore–macropore.

Abstract Background The large and diverse Coffeeae alliance clade of subfamily Ixoroideae (Rubiaceae) consists of 10 tribes, > 90 genera, and > 2000 species. Previous molecular phylogenetics using limited numbers of markers were often unable to fully resolve the phylogenetic relationships at tribal and generic levels. Also, the structural variations of plastomes (PSVs) within the Coffeeae alliance tribes have been poorly investigated in previous studies. To fully understand the phylogenetic relationships and PSVs within the clade, highly reliable and sufficient sampling with superior next-generation analysis techniques is required. In this study, 71 plastomes (40 newly sequenced and assembled and the rest from the GenBank) were comparatively analyzed to decipher the PSVs and resolve the phylogenetic relationships of the Coffeeae alliance using four molecular data matrices. Results All plastomes are typically quadripartite with the size ranging from 153,055 to 155,908 bp and contained 111 unique genes. The inverted repeat (IR) regions experienced multiple contraction and expansion; five repeat types were detected but the most abundant was SSR. The size of the Coffeeae alliance clade plastomes and its elements are affected by the IR boundary shifts and the repeat types. However, the emerging PSVs had no taxonomic and phylogenetic implications. Eight highly divergent regions were identified within the plastome regions ndhF, ccsA, ndhD, ndhA, ndhH, ycf1, rps16-trnQ-UUG, and psbM-trnD. These highly variable regions may be potential molecular markers for further species delimitation and population genetic analyses for the clade. Our plastome phylogenomic analyses yielded a well-resolved phylogeny tree with well-support at the tribal and generic levels within the Coffeeae alliance. Conclusions Plastome data could be indispensable in resolving the phylogenetic relationships of the Coffeeae alliance tribes. Therefore, this study provides deep insights into the PSVs and phylogenetic relationships of the Coffeeae alliance and the Rubiaceae family as a whole.

Background/objective: We investigated the efficacy of combined pigtail catheter crushing and AngioJet mechanical aspiration of thrombi in the treatment of acute iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Methods: Eighty-two patients with acute iliofemoral DVT were retrospectively divided into a pigtail catheter + AngioJet group (group A, 42 cases) and an AngioJet-only group (group B, 40 cases). The difference in the circumference of the healthy limbs before and after treatment, immediate thrombus clearance rate in the lower limbs, recannalization percentage of venous lumen, and duration of postoperative hematuria were compared to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the combination method. Results: The technical success rate was 100%, no serious bleeding complications occurred, lower extremity symptoms were effectively alleviated, and post-treatment recannalization percentage of venous lumen were similarly high in both groups. Abstract Background Marine animals often exhibit complex symbiotic relationship with gut microbes to attain better use of the available resources. Many animals endemic to deep-sea chemosynthetic ecosystems host chemoautotrophic bacteria endocellularly, and they are thought to rely entirely on these symbionts for energy and nutrition. Numerous investigations have been conducted on the interdependence between these animal hosts and their chemoautotrophic symbionts. The provannid snail Alviniconcha marisindica from the Indian Ocean hydrothermal vent fields hosts a Campylobacterial endosymbiont in its gill. Unlike many other chemosymbiotic animals, the gut of A. marisindica is reduced but remains functional; yet the contribution of gut microbiomes and their interactions with the host remain poorly characterised. Results Metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analyses showed that the gut microbiome of A. marisindica plays key nutritional and metabolic roles. The composition and relative abundance of gut microbiota of A. marisindica were different from those of snails that do not depend on endosymbiosis. The relative abundance of microbial taxa was similar amongst three individuals of A. marisindica with significant inter-taxa correlations. These correlations suggest the potential for interactions between taxa that may influence community assembly and stability. Functional profiles of the gut microbiome revealed thousands of additional genes that assist in the use of vent-supplied inorganic compounds (autotrophic energy source), digest host-ingested organics (carbon source), and recycle the metabolic waste of the host. In addition, members of five taxonomic classes have the potential to form slime capsules to protect themselves from the host immune system, thereby contributing to homeostasis. Gut microbial ecology and its interplay with the host thus contribute to the nutritional and metabolic demands of A. marisindica. Conclusions The findings advance the understanding of how deep-sea chemosymbiotic animals use available resources through contributions from gut microbiota. Gut microbiota may be critical in the survival of invertebrate hosts with autotrophic endosymbionts in extreme environments.

Respiratory burst oxidase homologs (RBOHs) are important proteins that catalyze the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which play important roles in growth and stress response. For a comprehensive analysis of SmRBOH genes, we conducted genome-wide identification of the SmRBOH gene family in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and analyzed the expression of SmRBOHs under abiotic (salt, high-temperature, and low-temperature) and biotic stress (Verticillium dahliae inoculation) by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The result showed that a total of eight SmRBOH members were identified from the genome database of eggplant, and they were relatively evenly distributed across seven chromosomes. The analysis of Motif and the conserved domain showed that SmRBOHs have high similarity in protein sequences and functions. Based on phylogenetics, SmRBOHs were classified into three distinct clades. Furthermore, the promoter regions of SmRBOHs were found to contain different cis-elements. Additionally, the results of the qRT-PCR demonstrated differential expression patterns of SmRBOHs in different tissues (the roots, stems, and leaves) and stress conditions. SmRBOHB, SmRBOHD, SmRBOHH1, and SmRBOHH2 showed significant upregulation (>20-fold) under at least one stress condition. Subcellular localization analysis of the above four members further confirmed that they localized on the plasma membrane. This study provides a theoretical foundation for understanding the functions of SmRBOHs in eggplant.

The Forel–Ule index (FUI) is one of the indicators used to assess the trophic state of inland waters, which can be objectively determined based on satellite-retrieved corrected hue angles (α). However, the functions for α correction have been proposed based on a dataset from Dutch and the North Sea, which might be inadequate for the precise FUI-derived trophic state. This study proposed a method for FUI retrieval through improved α correction. First, the daily surface spectral reflectance product (MOD09GA) was corrected through simple band subtraction. The results showed that the FUI retrieved from the corrected MOD09GA was more reliable than those without corrections. Second, we obtained new offset functions through the fit between the sensor (α) and the error with α derived from the corrected MOD09GA. The results showed that: (1) for three atmospheric correction methods, the C2RCC (case 2 regional coast color) processor and the iCOR (image correction for atmospheric effects) performed better than 6S (Second Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum) in FUI calculations; and (2) with Pearson’s r square (r2) of 0.72, and percentage error (PE) values of 5.80% for FUI derived from Landsat 8, r2 of 0.52 and PE of 7.81% for results derived from Sentinel-2, r2 of 0.60 and PE of 19.40% for results retrieved from Sentinel-3, the FUI determined by the new offset-corrected greatly improved the assessment of trophic states for five waterbodies in and around Wuhan, China. Hue angles retrieved by the corrected-MOD09GA are available as references and the results also imply that hue angle correction the functions can be achieved in any place, even if without an in-situ hyperspectral dataset. The waters of the Xiajiasi Reservoir and the Daoguanhe Reservoir were mostly in mesotrophic status; while East Lake, Tangxun Lake and Liangzi Lake were eutrophic.

BackgroundSocial media provide an ideal medium for breeding and reinforcing vaccine hesitancy, especially during public health emergencies. Algorithmic recommendation–based technology along with users’ selective exposure and group pressure lead to online echo chambers, causing inefficiency in vaccination promotion. Avoiding or breaking echo chambers largely relies on key users’ behavior. ObjectiveWith the ultimate goal of eliminating the impact of echo chambers related to vaccine hesitancy on social media during public health emergencies, the aim of this study was to develop a framework to quantify the echo chamber effect in users’ topic selection and attitude contagion about COVID-19 vaccines or vaccinations; detect online opinion leaders and structural hole spanners based on network attributes; and explore the relationships of their behavior patterns and network locations, as well as the relationships of network locations and impact on topic-based and attitude-based echo chambers. MethodsWe called the Sina Weibo application programming interface to crawl tweets related to the COVID-19 vaccine or vaccination and user information on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. Adopting social network analysis, we examined the low echo chamber effect based on topics in representational networks of information, according to attitude in communication flow networks of users under different interactive mechanisms (retweeting, commenting). Statistical and visual analyses were used to characterize behavior patterns of key users (opinion leaders, structural hole spanners), and to explore their function in avoiding or breaking topic-based and attitude-based echo chambers. ResultsUsers showed a low echo chamber effect in vaccine-related topic selection and attitude interaction. For the former, the homophily was more obvious in retweeting than in commenting, whereas the opposite trend was found for the latter. Speakers, replicators, and monologists tended to be opinion leaders, whereas common users, retweeters, and networkers tended to be structural hole spanners. Both leaders and spanners tended to be “bridgers” to disseminate diverse topics and communicate with users holding cross-cutting attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines. Moreover, users who tended to echo a single topic could bridge multiple attitudes, while users who focused on diverse topics also tended to serve as bridgers for different attitudes. ConclusionsThis study not only revealed a low echo chamber effect in vaccine hesitancy, but further elucidated the underlying reasons from the perspective of users, offering insights for research about the form, degree, and formation of echo chambers, along with depolarization, social capital, stakeholder theory, user portraits, dissemination pattern of topic, and sentiment. Therefore, this work can help to provide strategies for public health and public opinion managers to cooperate toward avoiding or correcting echo chamber chaos and effectively promoting online vaccine campaigns.

The decrease of diversity from the equator to the poles is one of the most well-established patterns in ecology. However, there are exceptions to this general pattern and some groups have not been well studied, especially for the taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity of aquatic plants along latitudinal gradients. Using the field survey data of 152 sampling sites across eastern China, we analyzed the α- and β-diversity-latitude relationships for the total 217 aquatic plant species, as well as for their two main components, 149 helophytes and 68 hydrophytes. We also explored the relationships between diversity measures and two types of climatic variables (energy- and water-related variables). We found that the latitudinal gradient of α-diversity of aquatic plants is a hump-shaped pattern with the highest peak at 45°N. The net relatedness index of hydrophytes is negatively correlated with mean annual temperature and annual precipitation, which is consistent with the prediction of the “tropical niche conservatism” hypothesis. The β-diversity is lowest in the warm temperate zone, which is located in the middle latitudes of our study area. The latitudinal patterns of aquatic plant α- and β-diversity are different between helophytes and hydrophytes. Energy-related climatic variables could more affect the diversity of hydrophytes, while water-related climate variables could more affect the diversity of helophytes. Thus, compared with hydrophytes, helophytes are more similar to terrestrial plants, which are more affected by water-related climatic varibales. This work provided the ideas for further understanding the composition of aquatic plant community and the relationship between its diversity with latitude and climatic variables.

An accurate estimation of trophic state of lakes with satellite remote sensing is a challenge due to the optical complexity and variability associated with inland waters. Match-up data from 393 sampling stations that has concurrent Sentinel-3 OLCI images were acquired across Wuhan lakes. Trophic Level Index (TLI) algorithms were developed within a global Optical Water Type (OWT) classification system. The performance of algorithms with limited training data gathered by using spectral similarity of highest Sowt was not improved compared with that on basis of no classification. In contrast, using spectral similarity of Sowt > 0.9 rather than the highest Sowt to group more training data with similar traits for each OWT can help build more robust algorithms, which performance is better than that on basis of no classification. Algorithm performance statistics of the test dataset for the stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) method were the following: Mean Absolute Error (MAE) = 5.56; Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) = 11.02 %; Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) = 7.24 and for the back propagation neural network on the basis of the Levenberg-Marquardt-Bayesian regularization algorithm (LMBR-BPNN) method MAE = 4.56; MAPE = 8.33 %; RMSE = 5.98. We detected 8 different OWTs (2,3,4,5,9,10,11,12) in Wuhan lakes and clear spatio-temporal patterns of the trophic state between 2018 and 2020.Our results revealed that the trophic state of Wuhan lakes did not decrease as expected during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

Gastropoda is the most speciose class in Mollusca, the second largest animal phylum. The internal relationships of major gastropod groups remain largely unsettled, partly due to the insufficient data from key deep-water endemic lineages such as the subclass Neomphaliones. Neomphaliones currently includes two orders: Cocculinida, best known from sunken wood habitats, and Neomphalida, best known from hydrothermal vents and often referred to as the “hot vent clade.” Phylogenetic controversy has also been observed in this subclass across different studies, requesting additional investigations. Here, we assembled nine new mitogenomes from two Cocculinida and seven Neomphalida species and analyzed them with published gastropod mitogenomes, with a particular focus on Neomphaliones. The phylogenetic reconstruction of Gastropoda based on 13 mitochondrial protein-coding genes resulted in a topology largely congruent with previous reconstructions based on morphological characters. Furthermore, we recovered characteristic mitochondrial gene order arrangements of Cocculinida and Neomphalida compared to the hypothetical ancestral gastropod gene order, at a level similar to other subclass-level clades. Divergence time estimation showed that Cocculinida and Neomphalida diverged approximately 322.68 million years ago. In addition to characteristic gene order arrangements for the clade, Cocculinida mitogenomes also exhibit some minor rearrangements even among congeners. Within Neomphalida, our tree adds support to monophyletic Peltospiridae and Neomphalidae, with unique gene arrangement recovered for each family. Our results offer new insights into the rearrangement of mitogenomes in Gastropoda, providing another clue to the evolutionary history of gastropods.

Eutrophication is the leading cause of freshwater impairment. Of China’s major cities, Wuhan has the largest coverage of the lake area, while lake eutrophication is increasing. Thus, the objective of this study was to monitor and assess lake eutrophication in Wuhan. For this purpose, the lake eutrophication was quantified using the Trophic Level Index (TLI). The TLI was modeled by building a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) model with a set of indices derived from Sentinel-2 Multispectral Instrument (MSI) imagery and a parameter of lake environmental characteristics. Applied MSI indices are the Maximum Chlorophyll Index (MCI) and the spectral band ratio of b5/b4 and b3/b4. In addition, the applied lake environmental parameter is the chlorophyll-a dependent month. Based on 54 MSI images from April 2018 to March 2020, the lake eutrophication was successfully determined. The main findings are as follows: 1) The higher percentage of eutrophic area was registered in the autumn (from September to November) and the highest was registered on September 12th, 2019; 2) Compared to the same period in 2018, the eutrophic area in the autumn of 2019 was significantly higher. In the autumn of 2018, from 74.94% to 86.38% of the lakes were eutrophic, while from 83.54% to 93.24% of the lakes were eutrophic in the autumn of 2019; 3) The TLI values were between 30 and 70 for the majority of lakes in Wuhan, suggesting that most lakes were mesotrophic, light eutrophic, or medium eutrophic, with few oligotrophic and heavy eutrophic lakes. Most oligotrophic and mesotrophic lakes were located in northern Wuhan, while eutrophic lakes were located in central and southern Wuhan. Our result indicates that the developed algorithm from this study could be applied for rapid and effective monitoring of eutrophication in lakes.

Line detection is a fundamental technique in image processing. It can extract the required information, while the information that does not need attention can be ignored, thus reducing the amount of data. At the same time, line detection is also the basis of image segmentation and plays an important role in this process. In this paper, we implement a quantum algorithm based on a line detection mask for novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR). We build a quantum algorithm for line detection in different directions and design a quantum circuit for line detection. The detailed module designed is also provided. On a classical computer, we simulate the quantum method, and the simulation results prove the feasibility of the quantum method. By analyzing the complexity of quantum line detection, we find that the computation complexity of the proposed method is improved compared to some similar edge detection algorithms.

Abstract Background The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology guidelines 2018 and the recent update of that (version 2020) recommends accurate examination before major treatment for decision(s) in cases of colon cancer. Also, the difficulty in the identification of the lesion during colectomy may lead to resection of a wrong segment of the colon or a more extensive resection than planned. Accurate pre-colectomy local staging of colon cancer is required to make decisions for treatment of colon cancer. The objective of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the computed tomography colonography (CTC) for pre-colectomy tumor location and tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging of colon cancer. Methods Data of preoperative colonoscopies, CTC, surgeries, and surgical pathology of a total of 269 patients diagnosed with colon cancer by colonoscopy and biopsy and underwent pre-colectomy location and TNM staging by CTC were collected and analyzed. The consistency between the radiological and the surgery/surgical-pathological for location and TN stages of colon tumor were estimated with the weighted kappa or kappa coefficient (κ) at 95% confidence interval (CI). Results CTC detected 261 (93%) and colonoscopy detected 201 (72%) correct locations of tumors. Sensitivity and accuracy of CTC for detection of location of colon tumors were 100% and 92.58% (κ = 0.89; 95% Cl: 0.83–0.95). 72.48% sensitivity, 90.64% specificity, and 83.57% accuracy were reported for CTC in differentiation of tumors confined to the colon wall (T1/T2) from advanced tumors (T3/T4) (κ = 0.69, 95% Cl: 0.51–0.75). 81.01% sensitivity, 89.11% specificity, and 83.93% accuracy of CTC was reported for differentiation of tumors between low–intermediate risk and high risk (κ = 0.68, 95% Cl: 0.53–0.75). 69.31% sensitivity, 66.15% specificity, and 67.14% accuracy of CTC were reported for N staging of tumors (κ = 0.41, 95% Cl: 0.59–0.69). Conclusions CTC has high diagnostic parameters for pre-colectomy location and T staging of colon tumors except patients of colon cancer who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Level of Evidence III. Symbiotic partners are rarely studied in equal depth. With the rapid development of economy, many lakes in Wuhan have been polluted to different degrees and suffer from eutrophication. The main objective of this study was to conduct the monthly trophic state assessments of waters in Wuhan from March 2019 to June 2020 using 111 Sentinel-2 images. The Forel-Ule index (FUI) and empirical Gaussian process regression (GPR) were, respectively, applied to obtain monthly area percentage (AP) of waters with each trophic state. Both FUI-derived and empirical GPR-retrieved results showed that majority of water bodies (>90%) in Wuhan were in mesotrophic and eutrophic states. The GPR-retrieved results based on FUI-derived water types were more reliable than the retrieval without classification, which reduced RMSE of trophic-level index (TLI) from 9.2 to 5.8, and MAPE from 14% to 9% (N = 213). Severe eutrophication occurred in the summer and early autumn (June–October). Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis indicated that temperature and wind speed were the two most important meteorological factors influencing eutrophication variability: the temperature accounted for 63% and 55% dynamic eutrophication from FUI-derived and GPR-retrieved results, respectively; the wind speed explained 44% and 52% variability of FUI-derived and GPR-retrieved results.

The systemic toxicity of anticancer drugs regularly restricts the use of conventional chemotherapy to treat cancer. In this study, the limitations overcome by profitably fabricating a multifunctional nanocarrier system to carry the anticancer drug into the specific location of the cancer cells. The polyethylene glycol (PEG) was functionalized in the carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) through an esterification reaction (MWCNT-PEG). The targeting ligand of folic acid (FA) was covalently bonded with hyperbranched poly-L-lysine (HBPLL) using adipic acid (AA) as a cross-linking agent. Doxorubicin (DOX), an anticancer drug, was effectively loaded on MWCNT-PEG-AA-HBPLL-FA carrier loading, and in-vitro drug release was investigated by UV–Vis spectrophotometer. The chemical functionalization, morphological properties, crystalline nature, surface charge, and thermal stability of the synthesized materials were studied by FT-IR, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, DLS, and TGA techniques. In-vitro cytotoxicity and anticancer properties of DOX-loaded nanocarrier were studied in human liver cancer (HepG2) cells and human embryonic kidney (HEK293) cells. The activities of caspases (caspase −3, −8 & −9) were analyzed using luminometry. The intrinsic apoptosis pathway proteins (Bcl-2 & BAX) were determined by western blot and RT-PCR analysis. The synthesized DOX-loaded nanocarriers exhibited increased cytotoxicity and apoptosis in liver HepG2 cells. The results suggest that the DOX-loaded nanocarrier possesses strong anticancer properties and could be an applicable and potential drug carrier for liver cancer chemotherapy.

There exists the Wusheng-Shizhu and Chongqing-Qijiang intra-platform depressions in the eastern Sichuan Basin during the Late Permian to the Early Triassic. The clear understanding of the sedimentary pattern and evolution of reef-shoal around the depression-margin has a practical significance for guiding the exploration and development of the Permian–Triassic reef and shoal gas fields. Based on observation, the systematic sampling and laboratory analysis of typical outcrops of the Changxing Formation (i.e. Juandong, Juhuaba, Lengshuixi, and Taiyuan) are located in the eastern Sichuan Basin. Combined with drilling data and previous studies, the study area is dominated by a ramp sedimentary environment, except for the Kaijiang-Liangping Trough in the Early Changxingian. The main sediments are micrite-containing chert nodules and micrite. With the regression that took place during the Middle-Late Changxingian, there is a distinct sedimentary differentiation that began to appear. There is a “two depressions–one platform–one trough” sedimentary pattern from south to north in the study area in the Changxingian. In essence, there exists the Chongqing-Qijiang and the Wusheng-Shizhu intra-platform depressions (two depressions), platform-flat (one platform) between the Wusheng-Shizhu intra-platform depression and the Kaijiang-Liangping Trough, and the Kaijiang-Liangping Trough (one trough). The reef-shoal of the northern depression-margin distributes between the 2nd Member and lower part of the 3rd Member. By comparison, the reef-shoal of the southern depression-margin distributes in the upper part of the 3rd Member; this indicates that the deposition of reef-shoal shows “earlier in the north and later in the south.” It is considered that the sedimentary palaeogeomorphology of the Changxingian is characterized by “higher in the north-lower in the south.” The clear understanding of the sedimentary pattern and evolution of reef-shoal around depression-margin reveal a new field for exploration and development of the Permian Changxing reef-shoal gas fields in the eastern Sichuan Basin.

Orchids have attracted much attention from researchers, because of their richness of species and their great ornamental and medicinal value. Jiangxi Province, which is located in southeastern China and ringed on three sides by mountains, contains many nature reserves and harbors large number of orchids. Here, we conducted field surveys of orchids in 35 nature reserves in Jiangxi, using sampling lines and plots. We also analyzed the relationship between orchid richness and density with environmental variables and studied the relationship among these nature reserves. We found that the mountainous areas of southwestern, southern, and northeastern Jiangxi have a high richness and density of orchids, while the mountainous areas of central and northwestern Jiangxi have low richness and density. Jiulianshan and Jinggangshan are the two most rich-species reserves, with 58 and 55 orchids, respectively. Eight reserves (22% of those surveyed) had fewer than 10 orchids. Compared with soil, climate, and vegetation, topography was more closely related to the richness and density of orchids. Topographical variables explained 19% and 20% of the total variation in SR and SD, respectively. The result of hierarchical clustering analysis showed that the 35 nature reserves of Jiangxi obviously fall into two main clusters, which are separated by the Ganjiang River–Poyang Lake water system. In conclusion, the geographical patterns of richness and the density of orchids in Jiangxi are uneven and are affected by topography and vegetation, while their distribution is affected by the terrain of Jiangxi. Our work explains the richness and density patterns and the assembly mechanism of the orchids in Jiangxi and also provides new ideas for the protection of orchids in this region.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, has a special geological history, diverse habitats, a complex climate, and a large number of wetlands, which harbor a huge of wetland plants. In this study, we sorted out the monographs, literatures and online databases, as well as our own collection from field surveys, and comprehensively combed the checklist and county-level diversity of wetland angiosperms and endangered species in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for the first time. The distribution pattern of species richness was analyzed through three groups of environmental variables: energy, water, and habitat. The wetland angiosperms have high richness, with a total of 2329 species, belonging to 91 families and 438 genera, mainly hygrophytes (94.98%). The spatial distribution is uneven, and gradually decreases from the southeast to the northwest of the plateau. Species richness decreased with elevation and latitude and increased with longitude. Annual precipitation (AP) and annual mean temperature (AMT) are the most important variables affecting species diversity. Habitat environmental variables had less influence on species richness distribution and wetland area was not associated with richness distribution. The setting of endangered wetland angiosperm reserves needs to focus on the Hengduan Mountains and southeastern Tibet. Our study provided basic data for the research and protection of wetland plant diversity in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Secchi disk depth (ZSD) is used to quantify water clarity as an important water-quality parameter, and one of the most used mechanistic models for ZSD is the quasi-analytical algorithm (QAA), of which the latest version is QAA_v6. There are two models in QAA for clear and turbid waters (referred to as QAA_clear and QAA_turbid). QAA_v6 switches between the two models by setting a threshold value for the remote sensing reflectance (Rrs, sr−1) at the selected reference band of 656 nm. However, some researchers found that this reference band or the threshold value does not apply to many turbid inland lakes. In Honghu Lake, the Rrs (656) (Rrs at 656 nm) in the whole lake is less than 0.0015 sr−1; therefore, only QAA_turbid can be applied. Moreover, we found that QAA_clear resulted in overestimation while QAA_turbid resulted in significant underestimations. The waters of inland lakes usually continuously vary between clear and turbid water. We proposed a hypothesis that QAA_turbid and QAA_clear transition evenly, rather than being distinguished by one threshold value, and we developed a model that combined QAA_clear and QAA_turbid according to our assumption. This model simulated the process of continuous change in water clarity. The results showed that our model had a better performance with an RMSE that reduced from 0.5 to 0.28, an MAE that reduced from 0.43 to 0.21, and bias that reduced from −0.4 to −0.05 m compared with QAA_v6. We applied QAA_Honghu to Landsat TM, ETM+, and OLI data and obtained 205 ZSD maps with high spatial resolution in Honghu Lake. The results were consistent with the existing in situ measurements. From 1987–2020, the ZSD results of Honghu Lake showed an overall downward trend and a distinct seasonal pattern.

Alvinellids have long been considered to be endemic to Pacific vents until recent discovery of their presence in the Indian Ocean. Here, a new alvinellid is characterized and formally named from recently discovered vents, Wocan, and Daxi, in the northern Indian Ocean. Both morphological and molecular evidences support its placement in the genus Paralvinella, representing the first characterized alvinellid species out of the Pacific. The new species, formally described as Paralvinella mira n. sp. herein, is morphologically most similar to Paralvinella hessleri from the northwest Pacific, but the two species differ in three aspects: (1), the first three chaetigers are not fused in P. mira n. sp., whereas fused in P. hessleri; (2), paired buccal tentacles short and pointed in P. mira but large and strongly pointed in P. hessleri; (3), numerous slender oral tentacles ungrouped in P. mira but two groups in P. hessleri. Phylogenetic inference using the concatenated alignments of the cytochrome c oxidase I (COI), 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA genes strongly supports the clustering of P. mira with two West Pacific congeners, P. hessleri and an undescribed species (Paralvinella sp. ZMBN). The resulting Indian/West Pacific lineage suggests a possible invasion into the Indian Ocean from the West Pacific. This is the third polychaete reported from Wocan hydrothermal field. Among the three species, two including P. mira and Hesiolyra heteropoda (Annelida:Hesionidae) are present in high abundance, forming an alvinellids/hesionids-dominated polychaete assemblage distinct from that at all other Central Indian Ridge and Southwest Indian Ridge vents. Thus, this study expands our understanding of alvinellid biogeography beyond the Pacific, and adds to the unique biodiversity of the northern Indian Ocean vents, with implications for biogeographic subdivision across the Indian Ocean ridges.

Here we present the complete mitochondrial genome of Tetraclita squamosa squamosa, which is 15,191 bp in length with 67.20% AT content. It contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal-RNA genes and 22 transfer-RNA genes. All PCGs except nad4l in T. squamosa squamosa start with ATN, and terminated with a complete stop codon, except nad3. Phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial PCGs shows that T. squamosa squamosa is clustered with T. serrata into a branch (BP = 100). Our result is consistent with previous reports that genus Tetraclita and family Tetraclitidae are not monophyletic. This study contributes to further phylogenetic analysis within Cirripedia.
