13. A Medico-Legal Study on Diamine Oxidase in Human Semen

Abstract

The fundamental enzymological properties of human seminal diamine oxidase (DAO) were investigated to establish a detailed fluorescence assay procedure for DAO. Using this assay, a high activity of DAD was demonstrated in human seminal fluid. DAO activity was also found in the serum of pregnant woman and cucumber, but not in other body fluids and plants tested. Human seminal fluid revealed much higher activity than the other two. These results suggest the possibility that DAO can be used for the identification of semen in medicolegal practice.

Abstract

1. Plasma levels of lactate and oxypurines markedly increased in both fed and fasted rats exposed to three acute anoxic states, cyanide poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning and inhalation of oxygen-deficient gas, suggesting that the transition of aerobic to anaerobic metabolism occurred similarly in both groups. 2. Plasma glucose level of fed rats increased 1.8–2.5 times after exposure to anoxia, whereas a remarkable hypoglycemia was induced by the exposure of fasted rats to anoxia. 3. Hepatic glycogen stores in fed rats induced hyperglycemia, while exhaustion of the stores in fasted rats resulted in severe hypoglycemia during acute anoxia.

Abstract

Polymorphism of red cell acid phosphatase types was examined among 573 unrelated residents of Aichi Prefecture. The phenotypic distribution obtained agreed well with the genetic hypothesis. No phenotypes associated with the allele P^c were detected. The frequency of P^a gene in Aichi Prefecture was estimated to be 0.209, which is very similar to those observed in other districts of Japan.
