The population history of Southeast (SE) China remains poorly understood due to the sparse sampling of present-day populations and limited modeling with ancient genomic data. We report genome-wide genotyping data from 207 present-day Han Chinese and Hmong-Mien (HM)-speaking She people from Fujian and Taiwan Island, SE China. We coanalyzed 66 Early Neolithic to Iron Age ancient Fujian and Taiwan Island individuals obtained from previously published works to explore the genetic continuity and admixture based on patterns of genetic variations of the high-resolution time transect. We found the genetic differentiation between northern and southern East Asians was defined by a north–south East Asian genetic cline and our studied southern East Asians were clustered in the southern end of this cline. The southeastern coastal modern East Asians are genetically similar to other southern indigenous groups as well as geographically close to Neolithic-to-Iron Age populations, but they also shared excess alleles with post-Neolithic Yellow River ancients, which suggested a southward gene flow on the modern southern coastal gene pool. In addition, we identified one new HM genetic cline in East Asia with the coastal Fujian HM-speaking She localizing at the intersection between HM and Han clines. She people show stronger genetic affinity with southern East Asian indigenous populations, with the main ancestry deriving from groups related to southeastern ancient indigenous rice farmers. The southeastern Han Chinese could be modeled with the primary ancestry deriving from the group related to the Yellow River Basin millet farmers and the remaining from groups related to rice farmers, which was consistent with the northern China origin of modern southeastern Han Chinese and in line with the historically and archaeologically attested southward migrations of Han people and their ancestors. Our estimated north–south admixture time ranges based on the decay of the linkage disequilibrium spanned from the Bronze Age to historic periods, suggesting the recent large-scale population migrations and subsequent admixture participated in the formation of modern Han in SE Asia. [EN] This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary inclusion of fermented ginger straw on the growth performance, gastrointestinal tract development and caecal fermentation of fattening rabbits. A total of 160 45-d-old Laiwu black rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and fed 0% (Control), 5, 10 or 15% fermented ginger straw in their diet as a replacement for peanut straw powder. The trial lasted for 7 d of adaptation and 43 d for testing. Growth performance was recorded from 52 to 95 d of age (n=5 per treatment with 30 rabbits, 3 males and 3 females per replicate), TTAD of nutrients from 91 to 95 d of age, and gastrointestinal tract development, caecum fermentation and carcass traits were determined at 95 d of age (n=5 per treatment with 10 rabbits, 1 males and 1 females in per replicate).The results showed that the average daily gain and final body weight in the experimental groups (5, 10 and 15% fermented ginger straw) were higher than in the control group (P0.05). A new xanthone glycoside, 1,8-dihydroxyl-2,5-dimethoxy-xanthone-6-O-β-D-glucoside (1), along with two known xanthone glycosides and two flavonoid glycosides were isolated from the aerial parts of Lomatogonium rotatum (L.) Fries es Nym. The structure of 1 was elucidated by analysis of its spectroscopic data, including UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS and extensive 1 D and 2 D NMR techniques. In vitro test, compound 1 behaved similarity to swertianolin against α‑glucosidase and more potent inhibitory effects than the positive control, acarbose.

Inflammation is thought to play an important role in the pathophysiology of ischaemic stroke, which is a main cause of disability and morbidity worldwide. Inhibition of the NOD-like receptor protein 1 (NLRP1) inflammasome has been reported to alleviate the inflammatory response in cell and animal models. Ligustroflavone (LIG) is a compound derived from Ligustrum lucidum, which shows anti-inflammatory activity and may play a beneficial role in a number of neurological diseases. To date, the potential for LIG to act through NLRP1 as a treatment for ischemic stroke has not been studied. The present study established an ischaemic stroke model by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Modified neurological severity scoring, open-field and the Rotarod test were used to assess neurological deficits. Staining with Hoechst 33258 and western blotting were used to evaluate neuronal damage. Expression levels of NLRP1 inflammasome complexes and inflammatory cytokines were determined using western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. Treatment with LIG minimized the impairment of neurological function and blocked neuronal damage in MCAO mice. In addition, treatment with LIG attenuated the upregulation of expression levels of the NLRP1 inflammasome complexes and the inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-18, IL-6 and IL-1β. Overall, LIG played an important role in anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activity in MCAO models of ischaemic stroke.

An efficient and practical electrochemical method for selective reduction of cyclic imides has been developed using a simple undivided cell with carbon electrodes at room temperature. The reaction provides a useful strategy for the rapid synthesis of hydroxylactams and lactams in a controllable manner, which is tuned by electric current and reaction time, and exhibits broad substrate scope and high functional group tolerance even to reduction-sensitive moieties. Initial mechanistic studies suggest that the approach heavily relies on the utilization of amines (e.g., i-Pr2NH), which are able to generate α-aminoalkyl radicals. This protocol provides an efficient route for the cleavage of C-O bonds under mild conditions with high chemoselectivity.

ObjectivesThere are few studies of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in immunocompromised patients assisted by veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (vv-ECMO). The present study is aimed to investigate the pathogen-detected effect and clinical therapy value of mNGS technologies in immunocompromised patients assisted by vv-ECMO.MethodsOur study retrospectively enrolled 46 immunocompromised patients supported by vv-ECMO from Jan 2017 to June 2021 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, respectively. Patients were divided into the deterioration group (Group D) (n = 31) and improvement group (Group I) (n = 15) according to their outcomes. Baseline characteristics and etiological data of patients during hospitalization of 2 groups were compared. The pathogens detected by mNGS and antibiotic regimens guided by mNGS in immunocompromised patients assisted by vv-ECMO were analyzed.ResultsCompared with Group I, the deterioration patients showed a higher percentage of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (32.3% vs. 6.7%, p < 0.01) and were significantly older (47.77 ± 16.72 years vs. 32 ± 15.05 years, p < 0.01). Within 48 h of being ECMO assisted, the consistency of the samples detected by traditional culture and mNGS at the same time was good (traditional culture vs. mNGS detection, the positive rate of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) culture: 26.1% vs. 30.4%; the positive rate of blood sample culture: 12.2% vs. 12.2%, p > 0.05). However, mNGS detected far more pathogen species and strains than conventional culture (30 strains vs. 78 strains, p < 0.01); the most popular pathogen was Klebsiella pneumoniae. Parts of patients had their antibiotic treatment adjustments, and the improvement patients showed less usage of broad-spectrum antibiotics.ConclusionsmNGS may play a relatively important role in detecting mixed pathogens and personalized antibiotic treatment in immunocompromised patients assisted by vv-ECMO.

Previous wastewater-based epidemiology studies on methcathinone (MC), a controlled substance in many countries, attributed its occurrence in wastewater to its misuse. However, such attribution did not consider the possibility that MC may also come from the transformation of ephedrine (EPH) and pseudo-ephedrine (PEPH). In this work, EPH/PEPH and MC in wastewater of six major Chinese cities were systematically examined. EPH/PEPH concentrations in all the cities showed clear seasonal variations, with maximum and minimum concentrations observed in winter and summer, respectively. In contrast, MC concentrations were the lowest in winter, leading to minimum concentration ratios between MC and EPH/PEPH in winter. Lack of MC seizure in the cities suggests that MC abuse could not account for the ubiquitous detection of the substance in the wastewater of these cities. Batch experiments confirmed EPH/PEPH transformation into MC in wastewater. The significantly lower transformation rate at a lower temperature was consistent with low MC concentrations in winter. These results indicate that when monitoring MC through wastewater, EPH/PEPH concentrations must be determined simultaneously to avoid false identification of MC abuse. The observed ratios of MC to EPH/PEPH concentrations in this work may be used to determine MC abuse. Alternatively, other biomarkers (e.g., cathinone) may be considered to avoid interference from EPH/PEPH transformation.

Three-dimensional topological insulators are a phase of matter that hosts unique spin-polarized gapless surface states that are protected by time-reversal symmetry. They exhibit unconventional charge and spin transport properties1,2. Intense laser fields can drive ballistic charge dynamics in Dirac bands3,4 or they can coherently steer spin5 and valley pseudospin6. Similarly, high-harmonic generation (HHG) in solids provides insights into the dynamics of the electrons in topological insulators7–13. Despite several theoretical attempts to identify a topological signature in the high-harmonic spectrum14–16, a unique fingerprint has yet to be found experimentally. Here, we observe HHG that arises from topological surface states in the intrinsic topological insulator BiSbTeSe2. The components of the even-order harmonics that are polarized along the pump polarization stem from the spin current in helical surface states, whereas the perpendicular components originate from the out-of-plane spin polarization related to the hexagonal wrapping effect17. The dependence of HHG on surface doping in ambient air also suggests the presence of a Rashba-split two-dimensional electron gas, whose strength can be enhanced by an increase in the intensity of the mid-infrared pump. High-harmonic generation up to the seventh harmonic is observed from the intrinsic three-dimensional topological insulator BiSbTeSe2. The parallel components of the even-order harmonics arise directly from the topological surface states.

Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 with H2O to syngas is an effective way for producing high value-added chemical feedstocks such as methanol and light olefins in industry. Nevertheless, the precise control of CO/H2 ratio from photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction still poses a great challenge for the further application. Herein, we prepared a series of highly efficient heterostructure based on highly dispersed palladium supported on ultrathin CoAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH). In conjunction with a Ru-complex sensitizer, the molar ratios of CO/H2 can be tuned from 1:0.74 to 1:3 under visible-light irradiation (λ > 400 nm). More interestingly, the syngas can be obtained under light irradiation at λ > 600 nm. Structure characterization and density functional theory calculations revealed that the remarkable catalytic activity can be due to the supported palladium, which improved the charge transfer efficiency. Meanwhile, more H atoms were used to generate H2 on the supported palladium for further tunable CO/H2 ratio. This work demonstrates a new strategy for harnessing abundant solar-energy to produce syngas from a CO2 feedstock.

Direct and selective coupling of methane into high-value added products under mild conditions is a grand challenge since the activation of the inert C-H bonds (439 kJ mol− 1) and the inhibition of over-oxidation are simultaneously required. Herein, we report the fabrication of a noble-metal free Ni2+-doped MgO/Al2O3 photocatalyst (NiMgAl-x, x represents calcination temperature) through facile topotactic conversion of the corresponding NiMgAl-layered double hydroxides (denoted as NiMgAl-LDH). EXAFS spectroscopy demonstrates that for NiMgAl-x, the Ni2+ ions are isomorphically doped into MgO cell and no NiO phase is formed. By involving trace amounts of water, photo-oxidation of methane to ethane can be accomplished by using NiMgAl-800 as catalyst in a flow reactor with a high production rate (454.30 µmol g− 1 h− 1) and a superior selectivity (97.8%), which was the highest yield among all the noble-metal free photocatalysts reported so far. Detailed characterizations reveal the electron-enriched surface oxygens of NiMgAl-800 generated during the topotatic process lead to the enhanced photocatalytic activity. In-situ DRIFT experiments and DFT calculations show that the introduced H2O molecules can modulate the Gibbs free energy of ŸCH3 towards a coupling conductive pathway instead of production of CO2, resulting in an increased C2H6 selectivity and inhibited CO2 production.

Metformin, one of the first-line of hypoglycemic drugs, has cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities, in addition to its proven hypoglycemic effects. Furthermore, the preventive and therapeutic potential of metformin for neurodegenerative diseases has become a topic of concern. Increasing research suggests that metformin can prevent the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. In recent years, many studies have investigated the neuroprotective effect of metformin in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. It has been revealed that metformin can play a neuroprotective role by regulating energy metabolism, oxidative stress, inflammatory response and protein deposition of cells, and avoiding neuronal dysfunction and neuronal death. On the contrary, some have hypothesized that metformin has a two-sided effect which may accelerate the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. In this review, the results of animal experiments and clinical studies are reviewed to discuss the application prospects of metformin in neurodegenerative diseases.

The purpose of this study was to assess residual dizziness (RD) after successful canalith repositioning maneuvre (CRM) treatment in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) using Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) questionnaire and Visual Analog Scale (VAS).One hundred sixty BPPV patients after successful CRM treatment were recruited. All patients were divided into the residual dizziness (RD) group and without RD group. The DHI questionnaire and VAS before CRM and follow-up were asked to complete. For analysis of the improvement in symptom, we defined ∆DHI and ∆VAS as the difference between the baseline score and the follow-up score.High incidence of RD was observed in the older patients (p 0.001). The incidence of hypertension in the RD group was also significantly higher than that of the without RD group (p = 0.022). The ∆DHI-P, ∆DHI-E, ∆DHI-F, ∆DHI-T, and ∆VAS scores in the without RD group were significantly higher than that of the RD group (p 0.001). When the cutoff point of the ∆DHI total scores was 17, the sensitivity was 64.86% and the specificity was 73.26% for diagnosing RD. When the cutoff point of the ∆VAS scores was 2.5, the sensitivity was 77.03% and the specificity was 81.40% for diagnosing RD.RD is prone to occur in the older patients and ∆VAS exhibits higher sensitivity and specificity in assessing RD.

Optical vortices with longitudinal orbital angular momentum (OAM) as a powerful tool for particle control, imaging and communication have been greatly developed. We introduce a novel property of broadband terahertz (THz) pulse, represented by frequency-dependent OAM orientation in spatiotemporal domain with transverse and longitudinal OAM projection. We illustrate a frequency-dependent broadband THz spatiotemporal optical vortex (STOV) in plasma-based THz emission driven by cylindrical symmetry broken two-color vortex field. We detect the evolution of OAM by time-delayed 2D electro-optic sampling combined with Fourier transform. This THz optical vortices tunability in spatiotemporal domain expands a new way for studying STOV and plasma-based THz radiation.

Background: The anti-coagulation protocol of patients with hemorrhage risk primary disease who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) supported is controversial. This study evaluated the safety of heparin-free after 3000IU heparin loaded in veno-venous ECMO (VV ECMO ) supported acute respiratory failure patients with hemorrhage risk.Methods: A retrospective study was performed in a series of hemorrhage risk patients supported with VV ECMO at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, between June 2012 to Sept 2020. A total of 70 patients received a low heparin bolus of 3000 units for cannulation but without subsequent, ongoing heparin administration. Patients were divided into survival (n=25) and non-survival group (n=45). Data of coagulation, hemolysis and membrane lung function were calculated and analyzed. The complications of patients were recorded. Finally, the binary Logistic regression was conducted.Results: The longest heparin-free time was 216 hours, and the mean heparin-free time was 102 hours. The percentage of thrombosis complications was 54.3% (38/70) including 3 oxygenator changed but there was no significant difference of complications in survival and non-survival groups (p>0.05). Compared with survivors, the non-survivors were showed higher baseline SOFA score and lower platelet counts in 0.5 hour, 24 hours, 48 hours and 96 hours after ECMO applied. However, there was no significant differences between survivors and non-survivors in ACT, APTT, INR, D-dimer, fibrinogen, LDH, blood flow rate, Δp and Ppost-MLO2 (all pConclusions: The anticoagulation protocol that no heparin after a 3000 units heparin bolus in VV ECMO supported acute respiratory failure patients with hemorrhage risk is safe.

Background Benzo [a] pyrene (BaP), a potent carcinogen, has been proved that it has toxicological effects via activation the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) pathway. AhR can participate in regulating lipogenesis and lipolysis. This topic will verify whether BaP regulates lipid metabolism via AhR. Methods (1) C57BL/6 mice were gavaged with BaP for 12 weeks to detect serum lipids, glucose tolerance, and insulin resistance. Morphological changes in white adipose tissue (WAT) were detected by Hematoxylin and Eosin staining. The mRNA expression levels of adipogenesis-related factors included recombinant human CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBPα), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), and fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) and inflammatory factors included nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were detected using PCR. (2) Neutral lipid content changes in differentiated 3 T3-L1 adipocytes treated with BaP with and w/o AhR inhibitor were detected by Oil red staining. The protein expression levels of adipogenesis- and decomposition-related factors included PPARγ coactivator-1 alpha (PGC-1α), and peroxisome proliferation-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) were detected using western blotting. The mRNA expression levels of inflammatory factors were detected using PCR. Results (1) BaP inhibited body weight gain, decreased lipid content, increased lipid levels, and decreased glucose tolerance and insulin tolerance in mice; (2) BaP reduced the expressions of C/EBPα, PPARγ, FABP4, PGC-1α, and PPARα and increased the expressions of NF-κB, MCP-1, and TNF-α by activating AhR. Conclusion BaP inhibit fat synthesis and oxidation while inducing inflammation by activating AhR, leading to WAT dysfunction and causing metabolic complications.

It is also analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant, and even has a cerebral protective effect. We searched the evidence of the correlation between ketamine target and clinical efficacy and utilized network pharmacology to gather information about the multi-target mechanism of ketamine against cerebral ischemia (CI). We found that ketamine’s clinical significance may be more extensive than previously thought.Methods: The drug target of ketamine and CI-related genes were predicted by SwissTargetPrediction, DrugBank, PubChem, GeneCards and DisGeNET databases. The intersection of ketamine’s drug-targets and CI-related genes was analyzed by using GO and KEGG. We predicted the molecular docking between the potential target and ketamine.Results: The results indicated that the effect of ketamine on CI was primarily associated with the target of α-synuclein (SNCA), muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M1 (CHRM1) and nitric oxide synthase 1 (NOS1). It principally regulates the signal pathways of circadian transmission, calcium signaling pathway, dopaminergic synapse, cholinergic synapse and glutamatergic synapse. Molecular docking analysis exhibited that hydrogen bond and Pi-Pi interaction were the predominant modes of interaction.Conclusion: There are protein targets affected by ketamine in the treatment of CI. Three pivotal targets involving 298 proteins, SNCA, CHRM1 and NOS1, have emerged as multi-target mechanisms for ketamine in CI therapy. Similarly, this study also provides a new idea for introducing network pharmacology into the evaluation of multi-targeted drugs for CI and cerebral protection.Keywords: ketamine, cerebral ischemia, treatment target, network pharmacology

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to apply the amplitude of the low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) method to investigate the spontaneous brain activity alterations in patients with residual dizziness (RD) after successful canalith repositioning manoeuvre for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).MethodsAll BPPV patients underwent visual vertigo analog scale (VVAS) evaluations and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The ALFF method was used to assess the spontaneous brain activity. Screening of brain regions with significant changes in ALFF values was based on analysis of the whole brain. We further analyze the relationship between ALFF values of the altered regions and VVAS scores in BPPV patients with RD.ResultsFifteen BPPV patients with RD and fifteen without RD were recruited in this study. In contrast to without RD, RD patients exhibited increased scores in VVAS tests (p < 0.001) and RD patients also showed significant ALFF decrease in the bilateral precuneus (left: 251 voxels; x = −10, y = −69, z = 51; peak t-value = −3.25; right: 170 voxels; x = 4, y = −59, z = 42; peak t-value = −3.43). Correlation analysis revealed that the mean ALFF z-values in the left precuneus displayed significant negative correlations with the VVAS scores(r = −0.44, p = 0.01).ConclusionsThis study shows that RD is associated with left precuneus function as revealed by fMRI. It might provide useful information for explaining neural mechanisms in BPPV patients with RD.

Reactive astrogliosis and the over-production of proinflammatory factors are key pathogenetic processes in Parkinson's disease (PD). Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), a promising noninvasive technique in treating PD, has been shown to alleviate neuroinflammation. However, high-frequency (HF) and low-frequency (LF) rTMS, which one produces better therapeutic and anti-inflammatory effects, and the underlying mechanism have yet to be determined. The efficacies of HF, LF, and sham rTMS on the survival of dopaminergic (DA) neurons, improvement of motor function, and downregulation of proinflammatory factors were compared in 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) rat model. Then we investigated the role of endocannabinoid (eCB) system in the inhibition of astrocyte activation between HF vs LF rTMS. The results showed that HF rTMS daily for 4 weeks produced stronger anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. ECB receptor 2 (CB2R) but not receptor 1 (CB1R) expressions were substantially elevated in the GFAP-positive reactive astrocytes of the rat brains with 6-OHDA or LPS insults. Increased anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) were also observed. Interestingly, the elevated CB2R, AEA and 2-AG, and the increased GFAP expression could be all significantly suppressed by HF rTMS, but not by LF rTMS. This effect was also confirmed in cell culture. Of note, selective agonism of CB2R was able to reverse HF rTMS-mediated activation of extracellular regulated kinase1/2 (Erk1/2) and suppression of GFAP expression, while selective antagonism of CB2R sustained these effects. This study indicates that the modulation of eCB/CB2R is a potential mechanism for the greater effectiveness of HF rTMS on the inhibition of astrogliosis.

The aim of this study is to explore the effect of stimulus frequency on air-conducted cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP and oVEMP) in healthy subjects.The study included 45 healthy subjects who underwent the VEMP tests. Different stimulus frequencies (250-1500 Hz) were used for air-conducted cVEMP and oVEMP.In cVEMP, P1 and N1 latencies were significantly affected by different frequencies (P.01). The amplitude at 500 Hz was significantly larger than those at other frequencies (P.01).There was no significant main effect of frequency on asymmetry ratio (AR) (P.05). In oVEMP, there was a tendency for the N1 and P1 latencies to decrease from 250 Hz to 1500 Hz (P.01). The amplitudes at 500 Hz and 1000 Hz were significantly larger than the amplitudes at 250 Hz and 1500 Hz (P.01).There was no significant main effect of frequency on AR (P.05).The optimal stimulus frequency of the cVEMP is 500 Hz and for the oVEMP is 500Hz or 1000Hz. Due to the absence of impact of stimulus frequency, AR is the best parameter of VEMP for clinical use.

This meta-analysis aims to systematically measure the immediate efficacy of the Gufoni maneuver for horizontal canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (HC-BPPV).A extensive search electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane library, were searched until to September 1, 2018 for relevant articles. We selected only randomized clinical trials studying with treatment of HC-BPPV employ by the Gufoni maneuver.Five randomized clinical trials were included in the current meta-analysis with a total of 714 HC-BPPV patients. The meta-analysis revealed that Gufoni maneuver had a higher immediate recovery rate than sham maneuver in treatment of HC-BPPV (risk ratio = 2.68, 95% CI, 1.54-4.65, p 0.01). No difference was observed in immediate recovery rate between Gufoni maneuver and other maneuvers (risk ratio = 1.18, 95% CI, 0.99-1.41, p = 0.06). And Gufoni maneuver had a similar otolith switch rate with other maneuvers (risk ratio = 2.13, 95% CI, 0.56-8.07, p = 0.27).Gufoni maneuver has a satisfactory immediate efficacy for HC-BPPV and does not increase otolith switch rate.

A nickel-catalyzed electrochemical cross-coupling reaction of aryl bromides with dialkyl phosphites, ethyl phenylphosphinate, and diphenylphosphine oxide has been developed. This reaction utilizes a simple undivided cell with inexpensive carbon electrodes to synthesize aryl phosphonates, aryl phosphinates, and arylphosphine oxides at room temperature. This protocol provides a mild and efficient route for the construction of C-P bond in moderate to high yields with broad substrate scope.

Background: Previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding corticospinal tract (CST) changes in alcohol dependence. Here, we aimed to clarify this issue by examining the micro-structural integrity differences of distinct CST segments between alcohol-dependent patients and healthy controls. Methods: Diffusion tensor imaging was performed in a total of 39 male individuals, including 19 alcohol-dependent patients and 20 age-matched healthy controls. CST was reconstructed using tractography and was divided into inferior and superior segments at the level of the lateral sulcus. Multiple diffusion measures of each segment were compared between two groups. Results: For the bilateral whole CSTs, no diffusion measures showed significant between-group differences. However, compared to healthy controls, alcohol-dependent patients exhibited decreased FA and increased RD in the left-superior segment, increased FA and decreased RD/MD in the left-inferior segment, increased AD/MD in the right-superior segment, decreased RD/MD in the right-inferior segment. Conclusions: These findings suggest that CST impairments may vary with the fibre arrangement patterns of its segments in alcohol dependence. Keypoints We reconstructed the CST using tractography based on DTI data and divided the CST into different segments in order to explore more detailed micro-structural integrity changes in alcoholisms. Alcohol-dependent patients showed decreased RD and MD for the bilateral inferior segments of the CSTs. The left-superior segment exhibited decreased FA and increased RD while the right one exhibited increased AD and MD. These findings suggest that CST impairments may vary with the fiber arrangement patterns of its segments in alcohol dependence. In future work, more elaborate segmentation schemes and lager samples should be used to test the reproducibility of our findings.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of investor sentiment on the supply of trade credit, and further explores the difference of the effect of investor sentiment on the supply of trade credit in the environment of strong market competition and weak market competition. Design/methodology/approach The authors use panel estimation techniques to examine the impact of investor sentiment in the Chinese securities market on the supply of corporate trade credit. Findings This paper finds that investor sentiment has positive impact on trade credit through three channels of motivation, willingness and ability. At the same time, this paper finds that investor sentiment has stronger impact on enterprises in strong market competition than enterprises in weak market competition. Research limitations/implications This paper expands the research on the influence of virtual economy on the real economy, analyzes the difference of the influence of investor sentiment on the supply of trade credit under different market competition conditions. Practical implications The paper perfects the mechanism of trade credit decision-making at this stage, and provides more evidence for the virtual economy to act on the real economy. Social implications This paper provides a theoretical basis for the government functional departments to use the investor sentiment to play a positive role in trade credit to improve the market competition and guide the development of China’s capital market in the direction of rationalization and health. Originality/value In combination with market competition environment and industry characteristics, this paper investigates external irrational factors and studies how investor sentiment affects trade credit supply.
