Research on the sources of fear of employees in hotel businesses is limited. This research deals with the causes and consequences of the fear experienced by employees in hotel businesses. Interviews were conducted with the employees to determine the fears experienced by the employees and what they experienced after the fear. Purposive sampling was used in the research. The responses obtained were analyzed in line with thematic analysis. The fears experienced by the employees in hotel businesses are fear of change, not being promoted, managerial pressure, mobbing, not being included in the winter staff, not receiving regular salary, making mistakes, and gender discrimination. According to the research findings, employees feel stressed, unmotivated, nervous, frustrated, and regretful after feeling fear. According to the results, a significant portion of the employees do not accept the fear situations. From the employees' perspectives towards the business after the fear, it is seen that their attitudes towards the business become negative. This research is aimed to draw attention to the importance of fear culture in the tourism sector, especially in hotel businesses. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of perceived overqualification on both task performance and proactive behavior via job crafting under the moderation of digital competencies. Hypotheses of the proposed model were tested with a sample of 409 participants in 40 five-star hotels in Turkey. Data were collected by interviewing face-to-face and analyzed using structural equation modeling. It is found that job crafting mediated the relationship between perceived overqualification on both task performance and proactive behavior. The positive effect of perceived overqualification on job crafting was greater under digital competencies, as was the indirect effect of perceived overqualification on both "task performance" and "proactive behavior" via job crafting. This study aimed to examine the self-perception of hotel industry employees regarding their overqualification, the factors that contribute to overqualification, and the attitudes and behaviors of managers and colleagues towards overqualified employees. To achieve the research objective, a qualitative research approach was used, involving interviews with personnel to collect data. During the interviews, employees were asked four main questions. Thematic analysis was used to examine the participants' responses to the inquiries. Eight distinct themes were identified based on the examination of responses to the multiple-choice questions. The analysis revealed that a significant portion of employees felt they were overqualified for their roles. The perception of employees as overqualified is primarily influenced by factors such as education, experience, and foreign language proficiency. As per employees, this attribute distinguishes them from their peers. Moreover, a substantial portion of the workforce often perceives individuals to have excessive qualifications, as observed by their supervisors and peers. In conclusion, most participants, except for one, demonstrated a clear preference for overqualification. Employees engage in activities to enhance their qualifications in their pursuit of overqualification. These activities involve enhancing their education, enrolling in vocational training programs, obtaining work-related certifications, attending seminars, and improving their foreign language proficiency. Objective: This single-centre study aimed to investigate the clinical outcomes and midterm mortality in patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for various indications. Methods: The study included 109 patients who underwent CEA at our institution. Demographic characteristics, indications for surgery, operative techniques, and early postoperative complications were recorded. Follow-up data were obtained for a mean period of 23.3 ± 17.2 months, and mortality causes, and neurological outcomes were analysed. Results: The mean age of the patients (73 men and 36 women) was 66.53 ± 8.00 years. Indications for CEA included transient ischemic attack (TIA) in 21.1% and a history of ischemic stroke in 26.6% of patients. Overall, 86.2% had unilateral carotid stenosis of 70% or more. Most patients (89.9%) were operated under general anaesthesia, and the conventional carotid endarterectomy technique was employed most (78.0%). The most frequent reconstruction method for the longitudinal carotid arteriotomy was Dacron patch plasty (56.0%). Early follow-up revealed low hospital mortality (0.9%) and limited postoperative complications (3.7% TIA, 1.8% major neurological complications, and 1.8% minor neurological complications). During the follow-up period, absolute survival was 87.0%. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates favourable early outcomes and acceptable long-term mortality rates following CEA. However, larger and multicentre studies are warranted to further confirm these results and enhance our understanding of CEA’s long-term benefits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research examines the effect of creative self-efficacy and emotional state on employees' coping with stress. Quantitative research has been adopted as part of the purpose of the research. The universe of the research consists of the employees in the hotel businesses in Antalya. The research sample is composed of employees from 5-star hotels in Antalya. The measurement tool was used with the judicial sampling technique. The measurement tool included demographic questions, creative self-efficacy, emotional state, and stress-coping style scales. Data collection occurred between July 1 and October 1, 2022. Between those dates, 390 questionnaires were filled out. However, the research analysis consisted of 356 questionnaires. Upon analysis, it was determined that creative self-efficacy and emotional state significantly affect coping with stress. Creative self-efficacy does not differ considerably in terms of gender variable. In terms of education level, creative self-efficacy differs significantly. This research has a unique value in terms of examining the relationships and effects between creative self-efficacy, emotional state, and coping style with stress. Objectives: C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) are novel parameters with proven prognostic importance in the postoperative outcomes of coronary and peripheral vascular diseases. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the ability of CAR and PNI to predict major cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) during the postoperative period of Carotid artery endarterectomy (CEA). Methods: A total of 505 carotid endarterectomy patients were retrospectively evaluated. Of 505 patients, 23 patients who died and who experienced myocardial infarction or major neurologic complication in the first 30 days after the operation were included in MACCE group (Group 1). The remaining 482 patients were included in Group 2. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate preoperative serum albumin value, lymphocytes count, PNI, and CAR to predict the MACCE. The DeLong test was used to compare the area below the curve (AUC) with each of these parameters. Results: CAR (2.48 ± 1.82 and 1.64 ± 1.37) and CRP (9.98 ± 7.42 and 6.81 ± 5.70) values are statistically higher in Group 1 than in Group 2. PNI (41.59 ± 3.11 and 43.54 ± 4.20) and albumin (40.43 ± 3.15 and 42.35 ± 4.15) values were significantly lower in Group 1 than in Group 2. The accuracy of albumin (AUC: 0.669) in the prediction of MACCE was found to be the highest among CAR (AUC: 0.631), PNI (AUC:0.667), and CRP (AUC:0.631). Conclusion: Preoperative nutritional and inflammatory status is significantly associated with post-operative outcomes. PNI and CAR can be used for preoperative evaluation, as CEA is recommended for patients who have low possibility of having postoperative major adverse events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Arrogant behaviors negatively affect relations and communication within the organization. The primary purpose of the research is to determine the effects of colleague arrogance on collaboration, organizational gossip, and emotional exhaustion. Quantitative research method was adopted. Within the scope of the research, a questionnaire form was prepared on an online platform and applied between 16 January-10 February 2023. The questionnaire was sent to the academicians via e-mail, and 391 academicians participated. Looking at the results of the regression analysis, the perception of colleague arrogance has a negative and significant effect on the collaboration of academicians. The perception of colleague arrogance positively and significantly affects the emotional exhaustion of academicians. When we look at another finding, colleague arrogance positively and significantly affects negative work gossip. At the same time, the perception of colleague arrogance does not have a significant effect on positive work gossip. In conclusion, we think this research has brought a different and vital perspective to the perception of colleague arrogance. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an increased risk of frailty, morbidity, and mortality in older adults. Limited health literacy (HL) is a condition that can cause frailty in CKD. Frailty leads to a decreased resistance to stress situations caused by activities of daily living and increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between HL and frailty in older adults with stage 4–5 CKD. A total of 109 patients with stage 4–5CKD were included. All patients underwent a comprehensive geriatric assessment. Health literacy was assessed by the Turkish version of the European Health Literacy Questionnaire. Frailty status was measured using the Fried Frailty Index. The median age was 72 (68–80) years and 72 patients (66.1%) had lowHL. Forty-six patients (42.2%) were frail, and frailty was more common in the low HL group. The present study demonstrated that low HL level was common in geriatric patients with stage 4–5 CKD and was associated with frailty, as well as a decrease in daily and instrumental life activities, decrease in acceptance of illness scale, and compliance with medical treatment. Workplace social courage behavior is studied as a current concept in the academic field. Workplace social courage behavior refers to actions performed for a purpose. One of the factors affecting workplace social courage behavior is employee personality traits. The primary purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between employee personality traits and workplace social courage behavior. Within the scope of the purpose of the investigation, the universe of the study consists of the employees in the hotel enterprises in Antalya. The study sample consists of employees working in 5-star hotel businesses in Antalya. The questionnaire was applied using the judicial sampling technique between 1 August and 20 October 2022. Four hundred four questionnaires were taken into consideration. As a result of the analyses, it was concluded that the personality traits of extraversion, openness to experience, and neuroticism did not significantly affect workplace social courage behavior. Agreeableness and responsibility personality traits were found to affect workplace social courage behavior.
