Aim: To determine the current status and trend of endodontic research in Türkiye.Materials and Methods: A comprehensive literature survey was conducted using the Clarivate search engine. Keyword selection was as follows: “Endodontics” and “Türkiye”. All publications until May 2022 were included. The search was restricted to endodontics. Title, first author, country/institute, journal name, publication year, citation, abstracts, and keywords were recorded. VOSviewer version 1.6.10 software was used to map the bibliometric network of the exported data that has an automatic term identification algorithm.Results: A total of 672 articles between 1985-2022 years were included. The scientific contribution rate of Türkiye was found 4.12% in the field of Endodontology. The highest number of publications is in the category of ‘Dentistry Oral Surgery Medicine’ with 588 articles and 384 (73%) published by Journal of Endodontics.Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis highlights Türkiye’s contribution to the field of Endodontology. Research articles have been contributed by various authors and institutions., Amaç: Türkiye'de endodonti araştırmalarının mevcut durumunu ve eğilimini belirlemek.Materyal ve Metod: Clarivate arama motoru kullanılarak kapsamlı bir sistematik literatür taraması yapılmıştır. Anahtar kelime seçimi aşağıdaki gibi yapıldı: "Endodonti" ve "Türkiye". Mayıs 2022'ye kadar olan tüm yayınlar dahil edildi. Arama endodonti ile sınırlandırıldı. Başlık, ilk yazar, enstitü/ülke, yazar sayısı, dergi adı, etki faktörü, yıl, atıf, anahtar kelimeler ve özetler kaydedildi. Otomatik terim tanımlama algoritmasına sahip olan dışa aktarılan verilerin bibliyometrik ağını haritalamak için VOSviewer sürüm 1.6.10 yazılımı kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: 1985-2022 yılları arasında toplam 672 makale çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Endodonti alanında Türkiye'nin bilimsel katkı oranı %4.12 olarak bulunmuştur. En fazla yayın 588 makale ile 'Diş Hekimliği Ağız Cerrahisi Tıp' kategorisinde olup 384'ü (%73) Endodonti Dergisi tarafından yayınlanmıştır.Sonuç: Mevcut bibliyometrik analiz, Türkiye'nin Endodontoloji alanına katkısını vurgulamaktadır. Araştırma makalelerine çeşitli yazarlar ve kurumlar tarafından katkıda bulunulmuştur.

Aim: To evaluate the outcome of single visit nonsurgical retreatment by clinical examination and PAI (Periapical Index) and, patients’ feedback regarding the nonsurgical retreatment after 1 year. Material and Method: 115 patients who previously had nonsurgical retreatment were recalled after 1 year and after dropouts, 84 patients were examined clinically and radiographical examinations were completed pre-and postoperatively using Periapical Index. Patients were also asked if they would still choose nonsurgical retreatment for teeth with previously failed root canal treatment. Results: The healing rate after 1 year was 88%. The tooth type did not influence the outcome (p=0.756). While the failure rate was lower in males (3.3%) than in females (16.7%), gender did not affect the outcome (p=0.088). 97.6% of patients had a positive approach to nonsurgical retreatment. There was a statistically significant relationship between treatment outcome and patients' feedback (p=0.013). There is a statistically significant positive correlation between postoperative VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) pain score and postoperative PAI score (p=0.002). Conclusion: Single-visit nonsurgical retreatment is a viable option for teeth where certain periapical diseases such as symptomatic apical abscess are excluded. Patients, who experienced successful nonsurgical retreatment, are eager to preserve their tooth with failed primary root canal treatment when nonsurgical retreatment option is available.

Background. This research aimed to investigate and compare the amount of apically extruded debris after root canal preparation using ProTaper Next, ProTaper Gold, and TruNatomy systems. Methods. Forty-five extracted mandibular premolar teeth with single canals with similar lengths were used. The root canals were prepared using ProTaper Next (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), ProTaper Gold (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), or TruNatomy (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) files. Apically extruded debris during preparation was gathered into preweighed Eppendorf tubes. Then the Eppendorf tubes were incubated at 70°C for five days. The Eppendorf tubes were weighed again to determine their final weight plus the extruded debris. Results. The TRN system resulted in significantly less debris extrusion than the PTN system (P0.05). Conclusion. All the instrumentation systems caused apical extrusion of debris. However, the TRN system resulted in significantly less debris extrusion than the other systems.

Objectives The reliability and educational quality of videos on YouTube for patients seeking information regarding instrument separation in root canal treatment were evaluated. Materials and methods YouTube was searched for videos on instrument separation in root canal treatment. Video content was scored based on reliability in terms of 3 categories (etiology, procedure, and prognosis) and based on video flow, quality, and educational usefulness using the Global Quality Score (GQS). Descriptive statistics were obtained and the data were analyzed using analysis of variance and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results The highest mean completeness scores were obtained for videos published by dentists or specialists (1.48 ± 1.06). There was no statistically significant difference among sources of upload in terms of content completeness. The highest mean GQS was found for videos published by dentists or specialists (1.82 ± 0.96), although there was no statistically significant correlation between GQS and the source of upload. Conclusions Videos on YouTube have incomplete and low-quality content for patients who are concerned about instrument separation during endodontic treatment, or who experience this complication during endodontic treatment.

Ozbay, Yagiz/0000-0003-2028-8120 WOS: 000455333400015 PubMed: 30351519 To evaluate which laser system is more effective on smear layer removal when distilled water or combination of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) are used as irrigants. Ninety-six human mandibular premolar teeth were used. Standard access cavities were prepared and the root canals were enlarged using ProTaper system to size F4 and divided into two equal groups according to final irrigation solution. In Group 1, distilled water was used, whilst 2.5% NaOCI and 17% EDTA solutions were used in Group 2. Each group was divided into four equal subgroups according to the activation procedure. In Subgroups 1A (Control) and 2A, no activation protocol was applied. In other subgroups, Er: YAG laser using photon-induced photoacoustic streaming (PIPS; 1B and 2B), Nd:YAG laser (1C and 2C) and Er, Cr:YSGG laser (1D and 2D) were applied for the activation. Teeth were split longitudinally and subjected to scanning electron microscopy evaluation. Smear layer was scored at 1000x magnification in all thirds. The data were analysed statistically using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test post hoc comparisons. The samples irrigated with distilled water had greater smear layer scores when compared with the combination of NaOCl and EDTA (p < .05). The efficacy of smear layer removal increased when using laser systems (p < .05). Smear layer was removed more effectively in the coronal and middle levels compared to the apical level (p < .05). The sequential use of NaOCl and EDTA is significantly more effective than distilled water in smear layer removal. Regardless of the type of irrigant, laser activated irrigation enhances smear layer removal. Research Highlights The use of laser systems for activation of NaOCl and EDTA is the most effective method in terms of smear layer removal. Photon-induced photoacoustic streaming technique with Er: YAG laser was the most efficient smear layer removal method regardless of the solution used. Geleneksel goruntuleme yontemlerinin yayginligina ragmen, goruntuleme teknolojisindeki ilerlemeler endodonti pratigine buyuk katki sunmaktadir. Geleneksel goruntuleme yontemleriyle elde edilen goruntulerin iki boyutlu olmasindan kaynaklanan geometrik distorsiyon ve anatomik maskeleme gibi dezavantajlarin Konik Isinli Bilgisayarli Tomografinin (KIBT) gibi uc boyutlu goruntu sunan cihazlarla elimine edilebilmesi mumkun olmustur. KIBT endodontide, kanal morfolojisinin degerlendirmesi, kok rezorbsiyonlarinin belirlenmesi, travmatik dental yaralanmalarin teshisi ve tedavi planlanmasi, periapikal lezyonlarin incelenmesi, cerrahi oncesi degerlendirmeler ve dis anomalilerinin tedavi planlamasinda kullanilabilmekte ve yapilan calismalar KIBT’nin geleneksel goruntuleme yontemlerine gore belirgin ustunlugunu isaret etmektedir. Endikasyon dahilinde KIBT’nin kullaniminin modern endodonti pratiginde daha sik yer almasi teshis, tedavi ve tedavi sonrasi degerlendirme asamalarina katki sunabilir.
