Applied sociological projects can play an important role in reducing the gap between higher education and labor markets, but for this educational organizations need to develop a mechanism for interaction between students and employers. The article presents the clinical model used at the Saint Petersburg State University as a tool for organizing applied sociological projects as a part of the educational process. The authors describe the features of the Sociological Clinic of Applied Research of the Saint Petersburg State University, the results of its work and the directions of its development, providing some practical recommendations for introducing a clinical training infrastructure in educational programs in sociology. These recommendations may be useful for universities that want to improve their interaction with the labor market and their quality of education. The development and assessment of forms for integrating employers’ requests into educational institutions are current methodological tasks, and solutions developed and tested by the Saint Petersburg State University, namely the clinical approach, may be interesting for all participants of the education market. Its uniqueness is determined by the flexible organizational model which focuses on characteristics of different educational areas. Over a five-year period, the Sociological Clinic of Applied Research has become an educational form that successfully combines classical education with project-based activities, giving students the opportunity to include in-demand cases into their portfolios and establish relationships with representatives of local communities. This experience will be useful for improving the quality of education in sociology-related areas.

The bottom sediments of the Russian Arctic seas have been studied to varying degrees. The least attention has been paid to the East Siberian Sea, the Quaternary geology of which remains largely overlooked. This article summarizes the results of a comprehensive research on the East Siberian Sea, including the first paleomagnetic analysis of nine sediment cores collected during three cruise expeditions as part of the program “State Geological Mapping of the Territory and Continental Shelf of the Russian Federation at the Scale of 1:1 000 000”. The results obtained show that the processes and conditions of sedimentation vary in different parts of the East Siberian Sea.

The article was prepared on the subject of ensuring the sustainable development of the territories in the Arctic zone on the environmental basis. The aim of the study is to develop a conceptual approach to assess the efficiency of public administration in the field of environmental development of territories in the Arctic zone, as the variety and importance of modern environmental risks constantly increase. Special, universal and general scientific methods of scientific cognition were used in the work. The article presents problems, conceptual approach and proposals to assess the efficiency of public administration of environmentally-oriented territorial development in the Arctic zone and improve environmental performance and ecological and economic efficiency of activities in the Russian Arctic region. The key tasks, constituent elements, objects and criteria for assessing the efficiency of this activity are outlined.

The article studies two closely related modern problems such as nuclear deterrence and nuclear security. The aim of the study is to develop and substantiate an Axiom for the scientific field of knowledge about coupled dynamic assessments of nuclear deterrence possibility and the need for guaranteed nuclear safety in the interests of the Russian Arctic region sustainable development. Actual aspects of ensuring nuclear safety and nuclear deterrence in modern conditions in the interests of the Russian Arctic region sustainable development and the Russian national security have been considered. The differentiation of countries and results of comparing the USA and Russia in the light of nuclear safety have been presented. Three stages of nuclear protection have been identified, within the framework of which it is necessary to solve issues of ensuring nuclear safety. An axiomatic approach to ensuring nuclear safety and nuclear deterrence in the interests of the Russian Arctic region sustainable development has been presented, and possibilities of its use described. Special, universal, and general scientific methods of scientific cognition were used in the work.

The article is devoted to the problems of transformation of the domestic educational space of the knowledge economy of the digital socio-economic structure considering modern threats and risks. The study purpose is to form and substantiate the author’s system paradigm of network multiuniversitates for training personnel in the interests of sustainable development of the Arctic zone of the Russia and ensuring national security of the country. The authors substantiate the need for an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented transition to a multi-university network organization of universities for the sustainable development of human resources in Russia. The problematic issues that require special attention and urgent resolution in the field of personnel training for the sustainable development of the Arctic region are identified. The conceptual-theoretical and scientific-methodological foundations of the transformation of the domestic educational space in the interests of harmonization of relations between the market and the state, the individual and society are presented. As an object of the field experiment, it is proposed to create an Arctic multiuniversity as a “Polar Bank” of Russia’s intellectual capital. If the proposed field experiment is successful, the accumulated experience can be spread throughout Russia as an example of recreating the science cities of the digital knowledge economy. The authors used general and particular methods of unity research in contrast to natural sciences and humanities. The research methodology is based on the key provisions of risk theory, the theory of eco-oriented innovative development, taking into account the ecological imperative of technological development.

The change in the volume of the Kozelsky Glacier in Kamchatka for the period 1977–2022 (1977–2015 and 2015–2022) was estimated using historical data and modern DEM. During this period, the area of the glacier did not change much. At the same time, its length increased by about 0.7 km, while the width decreased over its almost whole extent. The volume of the glacier decreased by 34.15 ± 6.74 million m3, and its surface became lower by 17.30 m, on the average. The cumulative mass balance amounted 14.70 ± 3.94 m w.e., and the mean annual value –0.33 m w.e. yr–1. In the last 45 years, the ice loss and redistribution to lower hypsometric levels took place on the Kozelsky Glacier. In 1977–2015, the average area change in the altitude of the glacier surface was equal to –17.84 m, the volume decreased by 35.21 ± 7.20 million m3, the cumulative mass balance amounted –15.16 ± 4.17 m w.e., and the mean annual balance –0.40 m w.e. yr–1. In the period 2015–2022, an elevation of the glacier surface was recorded by 0.59 ± 1.55 m on the average, the volume increased by 1.01 ± 2.65 million m3, the cumulative mass balance amounted to 0.50 ± 1.35 m w.e., and the mean annual balance – to 0.07 m w.e. yr–1. During the last decade, a slowdown in the movement of the glacier front down the valley was recorded. In 2012–2022, the glacier front advanced with a velocity of about 5.2 m/year, while it was 17.9 m/year in 1977–2007, and 20.0 m/year in 2007–2012. The current climatic conditions are not favorable for development of glaciers. In 1977–2022, a trend of the summer air temperature rise was observed with a relatively stable amount of precipitation falling during the cold period. The almost continuous (except 1978–1981) advance of the glacier in 1977–2022 can be explained by the influence of the volcanic factor. A thick surface moraine covers more than 2/3 of the glacier area and, thus, prevents the surface ablation. Increased seismic activity associated with active volcanism promotes the ice movement.

The study hypothesizes that the concept of sustainable development can be a central model for organizing the activities of universities to implement measures to improve social and environmental social development. The paper attempts to systematize the accumulated foreign experience on the activities within the framework of achieving the UNO Sustainable Development Goals. As a result, three models have been highlighted, which makes it possible to classify all the social and environmental activities carried out by the best universities in the world in order to implement the best of them in the activities of Russian universities to increase their competitiveness. The hypothesis of this study is that the concept of sustainable development can be a central model for organizing the activities of universities for the implementation measures to improve social and environmental community development. The subject of the study is sustainable development strategies. The object of the study is the leading foreign universities. The methods of scientific cognition used in this study are as follows: dialectical and retrospective analyses, induction and deduction, comparative analysis, summaries and groupings.

The global economy is currently experiencing unprecedented changes as the BRICS nations establish themselves as a signifi cant power center and a crucial factor in the transformation of the international economic framework. Following China’s chairmanship of BRICS, which culminated in the BRICS+ meetings with a diverse range of emerging market economies, these and other countries have expressed their desire to join the BRICS group. The expansion process was largely catalyzed by the openness exhibited by BRICS through the BRICS+ format. The main question at this juncture is how the BRICS+ format will develop and whether it can enhance the position of BRICS in the global arena and among the Global South. This paper explores some of the opportunities presented by the BRICS+ concept in the creation of new global governance, particularly through the establishment of platforms – including those in the real sector and fi nancial platforms aimed at promoting greater cooperation among the sovereign wealth funds and regional development banks of the Global South. Another critical area is the launch of a new reserve currency that could serve as the foundation for greater economic integration across the broad platform of the developing world.

Aim of the work: to demonstrate the difficulty of verifying the diagnosis of Q fever with negative results of PCR (DNA of Coxiella burnetii) in the blood and to assess the occurrence of serological markers among patients selected for this study based on a combination of clinical and epidemiological data. Materials and methods: plasma/serum samples of 111 patients according to clinical and epidemiological data studied due ELISA and PCR for specific antibodies to Coxiella burnetii and DNA of pathogen. Additionally, in the presence IgG to C. burnetii phase II, IgG / IgA to phase I and the avidity of specific IgG were studied. Results: the specific antibodies to C. burnetii antigens at negative results of PCR detected in 10 cases. The article provides the description of three clinical cases for demonstration of difficulties of coxiellosis diagnosis with analysis of serological profiles, titers and avidity of antibodies. Conclusion: the results of the study indicate that negative results of PCR testing do not exclude C. burnetii infection. For patients who, according to clinical and epidemiological data, Q fever is not excluded, it is advisable to prescribe a complex of laboratory tests to verify the diagnosis, which includes not only studies of the pathogen’s DNA, but also specific antibodies. To clarify the stage of the disease and reduce the risk of developing complications of coxiellosis, it is necessary to monitor the dynamics of antibody titers to C. burnetii in phase I and II phase states differentially.

The article is devoted to the issue of taking into account the environmental factor in the evaluation and selection of infrastructure projects that are financed with the involvement of funds from the Russian National Wealth Fund. The purpose of the study is to improve the scientific and methodological base for the assessment and selection of infrastructure projects in the face of modern environmental challenges and threats. The work used universal and general scientific methods, methods of empirical and theoretical scientific knowledge, as well as special methods, due to the essence of the object and subject of research. The developed scientific and methodological foundations and proposals for the legal regulation of the assessment and selection of infrastructure projects, taking into account the environmental factor, are presented.

The analysis results of work in the conditions of a pandemic of a new coronavirus infection pandemic showed that patients with malignant neoplasms (ZNO) belong to a group of high risk of infection and severe course of this infectious disease. The incidence of COVID‑19 complications in this group of patients is 3.5 times higher than in the general population, which is largely due to the immunosuppressive effect of both oncological diseases themselves and their treatment.Many attempts have been held to identify and validate other risk factors for severe COVID‑19. Epidemiological data indicate that elderly patients with chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus (DM), arterial hypertension (AH), obesity, are susceptible to a more severe course of COVID‑19 with a higher frequency of deaths. A number of studies have noted a higher incidence of severe forms of the infectious process and a higher level of COVID‑19‑associated mortality in men. Currently new aspects of the influence of hormonal changes, including iatrogenic ones, on the course of coronavirus infection are being identified. In particular, the data of clinical studies demonstrate a correlation between the level of testosterone in the blood serum and the level of inflammatory cytokines, the features of viral entry into cells, the course of the disease as a whole. This is especially important for understanding the features of the new coronavirus infection in patients with prostate cancer (PC), including for the development of a therapeutic algorithm, indications and contraindications to certain methods of treating PC in a pandemic, as well as ways of additional therapeutic effects when combined with PC and COVID‑19.The review presents the results of studies on the potential mechanisms of increased susceptibility of men to SARS‑CoV‑2 and discusses the search for new therapeutic targets in COVID‑19, discusses the features of the course of COVID‑19 in patients with PC depending on the level of androgens, including androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

This review presents information on the prevalence, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of Duhring’s dermatitis herpetiformis. Although the disease was first clinically described in 1884 by the American dermatologist L.A. Duhring, the study of its pathogenesis and the search for prognostic markers of its occurrence continue. Against the background of a significant expansion of ideas about gluten-dependent diseases and conditions, views on the mechanisms of autoimmune skin damage in dermatitis herpetiformis are detailed. A strong association with hereditary predisposition through the major human leukocyte histocompatibility complex (HLA) DQ2 and DQ8, and a role of epidermal transglutaminase as a major autoantigen in dermatitis herpetiformis are shown. The hypotheses explaining the decline in the incidence of dermatitis herpetiformis in recent decades against the background of increased and more effective serological screening and the resulting earlier diagnosis of celiac disease are commented on. A typical clinical picture of dermatitis herpetiformis, in which erythematous papules, plaques, vesicles are seen, usually clustered on the flexural surfaces of the extremities. Secondary elements are erosions, excoriations and crusts due to rupture of blisters and due to scratching caused by intense itching. A generally favourable prognosis for life and disease is shown with a gluten-free diet and the use of dapsone, glucocorticoids and, if these are ineffective, immunosuppressants. The authors describe a clinical case of the disease in an adolescent girl with a typical clinical history and characteristic rashes on the extensor surfaces of the limbs. The authors show that drug therapy without a gluten-free diet cannot be considered effective, and that the diet for dermatitis herpetiformis, like that for celiac disease, is lifelong. The growing understanding of gluten-associated pathology, which includes dermatitis herpetiformis, in recent decades has led to an intensive search for diagnostic and prognostic markers, as well as the development of ways to correct this group of diseases, including those not related to the lifelong elimination of cereal prolamines.

The results of the simulation the influence of the proton flux on the electrical characteristics of the device structure of dual-channel high electron mobility field effect transistor based on GaAs are presented. The dependences of the drain current ID and cut-off voltage on the fluence value and proton energy, as well as on the ambient temperature are shown.

The risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) development depends on a hereditary predisposition. According to the current data, bone tissue enhances insulin gene expression in pancreatic β-cells as well as increases insulin sensitivity of adipocytes, myocytes and hepatocytes through the secretion of undercarboxylated osteocalcin (unOCN). The aim. To analyze the relation between rs1800247 SNP and T2DM occurrence depending on the arterial hypertension (AH) presence, as well as association between rs1800247 and systolic, diastolic, pulse, mean blood pressure among patients with T2DM. Materials and methods. This study included 153 patients with diagnosed T2DM and 311 individuals without any carbohydrate metabolism disorders. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (PCR-RFLP) was used for BGLAP rs1800247-genotyping. Logistic regression with interaction term “genotype × AH” was used to estimate the association between BGLAP rs1800247-genotypes and T2DM development in dominant, recessive, over-dominant and additive models of inheritance. Linear regression was performed to examine the influence of minor C-allele on the arterial blood pressure. Lipid profile characteristics of T2DM patients were stratified by rs1800247-genotype using ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc test. All calculations were performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software (SPSS, version 22.0, Chicago, IL, USA). A value of P ˂ 0.05 was considered as significant. Results. No association was found between rs1800247 single nucleotide polymorphism and T2DM development neither in AH patients, nor in subjects without AH (Paint b > 0.05). There was no impact of rs1800247 genotypes on systolic, diastolic, pulse and mean blood pressure among patients with T2DM (P > 0.05). It was showed that T2DM non-hypertensive CC-carriers had significantly lower levels of total cholesterol (P = 0.012) and LDL cholesterol (P = 0.04), but higher concentration of HDL cholesterol (P = 0.015) compared to the TT-genotype. Conclusions. It was showed that CC-carriers had more favorable parameters of lipid metabolism among T2DM non-hypertensive Ukrainians. However, there was no association between rs1800247 SNP and T2DM development as well as blood pressure parameters.

Context: No consensus has yet been formed on project development in lake-water conservancy on aspects such as lake quality, ecological environment, rural economy, social culture, leisure living environment and leisure aspirations due to the current lack of comprehensive discussion. Aims: This study mainly uses the case of Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan to verify the impact of lake-tourism optimisation and water-conservancy projects on the rural economy, water quality, ecology and sustainable development of tourism for local young people in the area around the lake. Methods: We employed open-sampling questionnaires and semistructured interviews to collect data and conducted multivariate analysis. Key results: The study investigated the hypothesis that optimising water-conservancy projects for lake tourism creates a stable leisure and tourism environment in rural areas, enhances visibility, and increases emotional exchanges and the preservation of historic sites. However, problems such as excessive tourism waste and a lack of public facilities negatively affect local young consumers' willingness to engage in tourism activities. Conclusions: Improving problems in the villages, ecology and natural environment surrounding lakes that are being conserved can increase young local individuals' willingness to engage in and share experiences of tourism activities. Implications: If the local government can improve the issues of protected villages, ecology and the natural environment around the lake, it can increase the willingness of local young people to participate in and share their experiences in tourism activities. Lake tourism-optimisation water-conservancy projects are indeed conducive to creating a safe leisure and tourism environment, thereby enhancing human interaction, historical monument protection and local visibility. However, problems such as shortage of basic public facilities and excessive tourism waste will still affect people's perception of the local environment and willingness to consume.
