This study aims to investigate the effect of course activities carried out using web 2.0 tools in the "Interaction of Light with Matter" unit in the Science Course on the academic achievements and self-directed learning levels of 7th-grade students. For this purpose, the model of the research was determined as a pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design. As the data collection tools, the Academic Achievement Test for the Interaction of Light with Matter developed by the researcher and the Self-Directed Learning with Technology Scale for Young Students were used. According to the findings obtained from the research, it was determined that the lesson activities prepared using web 2.0 tools positively affected the academic achievement of the students in the experimental group and their self-learning levels with technology. It can be said that the significant difference between the academic achievement posttest scores of the experimental and control groups is due to the higher effect level of applications of the web 2.0 activities in the experimental group on achievement. It was determined that gender did not have a significant effect on the academic achievement and self-learning levels of the students in each group.

Aim: Mental disorders affect approximately 15%–20% of childhood. However, due to various factors, these individuals do not benefit sufficiently from mental health services. Therefore, psychiatry emergency services become a key system in the need of psychiatric care for these children. This study aims to reveal the factors that predict recurrent admissions in children and adolescents admitted to the emergency department of a psychiatric hospital and the tendencies of clinicians during management. Methods: In our study, the data of patients aged 0–18 years who applied to the emergency department between 1 March 2022 and 01 March 2023 were scanned retrospectively. Participants who applied once were included in the 'single applicant' group, whereas patients who applied two or more times were included in the 'repeated applicants' group. Results: A total of 1563 emergency applications were recorded by 785 different patients. A total of 62.2% of the patients visited the emergency department once, while 37.8% applied two or more times. Non‐suicidal self‐injury, delusion/hallucination, irritability and depression were significantly higher in recurrent applicants (P < 0.05). Psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression and borderline personality traits were significantly frequent in these patients (P < 0.05). Additionally, it was determined that the number of psychiatric diagnoses, referral time, need for chemical restraint, having a diagnosis of psychotic disorder or borderline personality traits increased the likelihood of recurrence. Conclusions: Our results indicate some special risk factors that increase the likelihood of recurrent emergency admissions in children and adolescents. Further research with larger sample sizes may elucidate the unique needs of these children in order to use of community resources beneficially. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Temporal lobe epilepsy surgery is the most common type of epilepsy surgery. This study evaluates the relationship between preoperative auras and surgical prognosis. Materials and Methods: The follow-up data of 100 patients who underwent anterior temporal lobectomy surgery after 2 years was reviewed. The patients were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of abdominal-emotional (AE) aura. Each patient was evaluated with a detailed history, video-electroencephalography (EEG), neuroimaging, and postsurgical outcomes according to Engel classification to predict postsurgical seizure freedom. Results: After 2 years of follow-up, 71 patients were seizure-free. Based on aura types, univariate analysis showed that the age of disease onset and history of febrile convulsion were higher in the AE (+) group (p=0.013, p<0.001). Additionally, MTS was more frequently observed in the MRI, MRS, and pathology results (p= <0.001, p=0.01, p=0.009). No correlation was found between the presence or type of aura and postoperative seizurefree state. Conclusion: Our results showed that the presence or type of aura had no prognostic significance for seizure freedom after TLE surgery. However, further studies with larger patient numbers are needed to confirm these findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this research is to understand the trends of scientific publications in the field of "tourism education" in the world and to reveal how authors, institutions and countries interact with each other in studies in the field of tourism. In this study, bibliometric analysis, which is described as both qualitative and quantitative research methods, was used. In this context, international publications (articles, papers, book chapters, etc.) published between 1987-2023 were examined within certain parameters (author, number of publications, keywords, country, etc.). Related scientific publications were searched in the Web of Science database on 11.07.2023 using the keyword "tourism education". As a result of the search, a total of 307 international scientific publications were reached. The VOSviewer software program was used to analyse these publications within the determined parameters. As a result of both the information provided by the Web of Science database and the analyses made, it has been determined that the most studies on tourism education belong to 2021 and the most references to 2022. It is seen that the majority of the studies conducted within the scope of the subject are in the type of articles and the English language is mostly used in the publications. It was concluded that the concepts of "tourism education", "education" and "tourism" are frequently used as keywords in the studies. The United States of America and the People's Republic of China have contributed to the development of the existing literature as the countries that publish the most on this topic. In addition, it has been determined that the studies on tourism education are mostly carried out in the fields of educational research and accommodation, leisure and sports tourism. In this context, a general evaluation of tourism education within the scope of international literature has been made in the study and a perspective has been presented to the new studies planned to be done. This article discusses a study on the lipid production capacities of two strains of Bacillus bacteria isolated from soil. The study found that these bacteria have the potential to produce lipids, which are valuable raw materials for biodiesel and other compounds. The strains were grown in specific media and subjected to different lysis methods for lipid extraction. It was found that one of the strains, Bacillus sp. E226, had the highest lipid content at 54.5%. The study also compared the lipid production of these bacteria to other studies on yeasts and fungi, noting that the Bacillus strains had higher lipid content. This study is significant as it highlights the potential of Bacillus sp. strains for lipid production and their applications in biotechnology. [Extracted from the article]

Most of the current design methods for driven piles were developed for closed-ended pipe piles driven in either pure clay or clean sand. These methods are sometimes used for H piles as well, even though the axial load response of H piles is different from that of pipe piles. Furthermore, in reality, soil profiles often consist of multiple layers of soils that may contain sand, clay, silt or a mixture of these three particle sizes. Therefore, accurate prediction of the ultimate bearing capacity of H piles driven in a mixed soil is very challenging. In addition, although results of well documented load tests on pipe piles are available, the literature contains limited information on the design of H piles. Most of the current design methods for driven piles do not provide specific recommendations for H piles. In order to evaluate the static load response of an H pile, fully instrumented axial load tests were performed on an H pile (HP 310 x 110) driven into a multilayered soil profile consisting of soils composed of various amounts of clay, silt and sand. The base of the H pile was embedded in a very dense nonplastic silt layer overlying a clay layer. This paper presents the results of the laboratory tests performed to characterize the soil profile and of the pile load tests. It also compares the measured pile resistances with those predicted with soil property- and in situ test-based methods. Fly ash and bottom ash are coal combustion by-products (CCBPs) that are generated in large quantities throughout the world. It is often economical to dispose ash as mixtures rather than separately; that notwithstanding, only a few studies have been performed to investigate the behavior of fly and bottom ash mixtures, particularly those with high contents of fly ash. Also, there is very limited data available in the literature on the field performance of structures constructed using ash mixtures. This paper describes the construction and the instrumentation of a demonstration embankment built with an ash mixture (60:40 by weight of fly ash:bottom ash) on State Road 641, Terre Haute, Ind. Monitoring of the demonstration embankment was conducted for a period of 1 year from the start of construction of the embankment. The settlement of the embankment stabilized approximately 5 months after the end of its construction. According to horizontal inclinometer readings, the differential settlement at the top of the embankment is about 5 mm. Results from field quality control tests performed during construction of the demonstration embankment and monitoring data from vertical and horizontal inclinometers and settlement plates indicate that the ash mixture investigated can be considered an acceptable embankment construction material. Aim: Stroke is the most common neurological cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Therefore, controlling the risk factors in an early phase is critically important. In this study, we aimed to investigate the advantages of neutrophile lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) values against each other in predicting the prognosis of ischemic stroke. Material and Method: 143 ischemic stroke patients were included in to study. Blood sample analysis was done to calculate NLR and PLR. Patients' NIHSS at first admission was also calculated. Multiple statistical analyses were used to analyze the statistical significance of NLR and PLR's predictive power in poor prognosis. Results: We found that NLR was lower in those with a stroke scale score of 5 and below; the difference was statistically significant (p=0.015). The results of the ROC curve analysis showed that the NLR value was statistically significant in predicting patients categorized as NIHSS 6 and above (p<0.001). Conclusion: This study is one of the first in the literature to evaluate the advantages of NLR and PLR values against one another in predicting stroke prognosis. Results show that the NLR value has a higher statistical significance in predicting prognosis than the PLR value. It is believed that prospective randomized studies can draw more meaningful conclusions on a larger set of patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
