The aim of this study was to monitor the presence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that cause the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), particularly on certain foods and surfaces that come in contact with food in district supermarkets in Ankara, Türkiye, where the highest number of COVID-19 cases was reported based on data from the Ministry of Health. For this purpose, a total of 172 samples were taken from 5 supermarkets in 4 districts in Ankara. RNA was extracted from the samples and RdRp gene-targeting reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assays were used to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2. The results showed that all the supermarket samples collected during the period when there was a high number of COVID-19 cases in the district did not have SARS-CoV-2 except for one sample that was taken from a supermarket where COVID-19 had been detected among the staff. In this supermarket, COVID-19 RNA was detected with a high number of copies of 5 000, using Real-Time RT-PCR assay in pooled swab samples taken from salt shakers, pepper shakers, red pepper shakers, and vinegar and oil bottles in the social area that the staff used for lunchbreaks and other breaks. This finding shows that it is of great importance for public health agencies to monitor COVID-19 cases in food businesses in regions with a high number of cases and to take samples from these businesses at certain intervals, as a form of "early warning system." World is globalizing rapidly in many areas from climate to economy, nevertheless there is also a great socio-cultural and socio-economic changes. Access to adequate and healthy food makes it difficult every day due to increasing population and urbanization, food waste and monopolization, reduction of resources and rural population, increase of pollution and diseases. This threat is the primary problem of all societies. In this time, we are seeking institutions and their historical roles which were established with great discernment. Veterinary Control and Research Institutes are some of these institutions. In this study, we want to explain these institute’s role in the food security and supply chains when we need them the most. The fact that the global epidemic dictated us by the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) on the agenda is the “self-sufficiency in production” fact; stands before us as the biggest homework. We have prepared this review in order to once again express our motives and efforts to fulfill our justifications and institutional role., İklimden ekonomiye, hemen her alanda hızla küreselleşen dünyada, aynı zamanda büyük bir sosyo-kültürel ve sosyo-ekonomik değişim yaşanmaktadır.

This study was carried out in an endemic region of Central Anatolia to research the ep epidemiologyof tropical the theileriosis after vaccination from March 1996 to April 1999. The study was conductedin Kesikköprü, Köseli, Kerişli villages and TIGEM farm of Bala county, and Kabak, Güreş,Girmeç, Hıdırşeyh villages and TIGEM fann of Polatlı county where the presence of Theileria annulatawas detected by blood smear inspections. In these villages, 50 % of cattles was native, 30 %cross-breed and 20 % pure Holstein. The studies have showed that the prevalence of T.annulata was 39.8 % befare the vaccination.Cattle were vaccinated by T. annulata live macro-schizont vaccine that contained 107 cells perml (produced in Pendik Veterinary Research Institute). lnspections done 45 days later fallawing tothe vaccination showed that 58.5% of cattle became seropositive against T. amııtlata antigen. Theseropositivity percentage in unvaccinated control group cattle became 30.1% during one activeseason of the disease. In the same period, 48.5 % of vaccinated and 29.4 % of control group animalsbecame the port or of T. annulata. The vaccine was found to be partially effective on tropical theileriosis since the ineidence ofthe disease was detected to be 1.9% in the vaccinated animals and 10.5 %in the unvaccinated controlgroup animals. It was also confırmed with this study that theileriosis is endemic disease in certainregions of Ankara province. The sporoblasts of T.annulata were found in the saliva glands of Hyalomma anatolicum anatolcumand Hyalomma anatolicum excavatum. lt was concluded that tlıese ticks are the potantialvecfor of tropical the theileriosis in Turkey., Türkiye'de mevcut sığırların çoğunluğu,genetik yapı İtibarıyle, düşük verimli yerli ırklardanmeydana gelmiştir. 61 SUMMARY Field Studies on the Cattle Vaccinated Against Tropical Theileriosis in the Polatlı Region This study was carried out to detect the effects of Tropical theileriosis live şizont cell culture vaccine with the same method of the field application on the cattle in Girmeç, Güreş and Hıdırşeyh villages of Polath town of Ankara province between March 1998 and June 1999. For this, cattle in the villages are allocated into two groups as older and younger than 1 year of age, and 280 older than 1 year of age and 35 younger than 1 year of age cattle were vaccinated. As control groups 37 older and 70 younger cattle were not vaccinated. Following the vaccination, each months villages were regularly visited and blood samples were collected from vein jugularis and sera were separated for IF AT. At the same time, slides were prepared from periphery blood of animals. In the 1 year research period seropozitivity was detected between 14,3-88,9 % in the vaccinated cattle younger than 1 year of age and 0-77,0 % in the control group. In the older groups, seropozitivity was between 22,5-77,8 % in the vaccinated cattle; 0-50 % in the control group. In the younger groups, seropozitivity was detected to be 46,0 % in the vaccinated and 29,1 % in the control group cattle. In these two groups, differences are not statistically significant (p=0,164). In the older groups seropozitivity was 55,6 % in the vaccinated and 15,4 % in the control group. Differences between these groups are statistically very important (p=0,001). In the study period piroplasm carrier cattle numbers showed increases and decreases. The rates of piroplasm carriers in animals younger than 1 year of age were found between 0-71,4 % in the vaccinated group and 0-66,7 % in the control group. Seropozitivity rates in the older vaccinated and control cattle were found between 0-60 and 0-37,5 %, respectively. In the younger groups, the rate of piroplasm carrier animals was detected to be 13,5 % in vaccinated cattle and 13,6 % in the control animals. It is detected that there is no statistically significant differences between these groups (p=0,689). In the older groups, the rates of piroplasm carriers were 24,7 % in vaccinated and 10,3 % in control group. Differences between between these groups are statistically not significant (p=0,062).62 There were no significant complications in any animal following to the vaccination. Three cases of clinical theileriosis were detected in vaccinated and control group animals. Two of them (one vaccinated cow and one unvaccinated calf) were recovered without any treatment but one vaccinated calf died. It is concluded that the region is stabile for Tropical theileriosis, and newborn animals and cattle from sterile region should be vaccinated before they are introduced to the region. Key Words: Tropical Theileriosis, Theileria annulata, cattle, prevalence, vaccine, Polatlı region. 871

- Abstract
Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of dietary protein and methionine and lysine on the immune system of lambs infected with gastrointestinal parasites. Both experiments were run concurrently. In experiment I, the effect of dietary protein on the immune system of lambs was investigated: Thirty two, 8 week old lambs were individually penned, divided into two groups (n=16) and each group was fed either a low or high level of dietary protein [low protein group (79g MP/kg DM) and high protein group (157g MP/kg DM)]. These two groups of lambs were further divided in two groups (n=8), one acting as an unsensitized control, the other being sensitized with parasite larvae. Infective larvae (L3) of Trichostrongylus colubriformis (95 %) and Ostertagia circumcincta (5 %) were administered as a trickle infection at rates of 600, 1200, 1800 and 3000 L3/week for the first 4, second 4, third 3 and last 4 weeks, respectively. All lambs including unsensitized control animals were challenged with 30,000 L3 of T. colubriformis 17 days after the end of the trickle infection and lambs were slaughtered 11 days after this challenge. In experiment II, the effect of methionine and lysine (ML) in the diet on development of immunity in lambs was investigated. The same low protein (LP) diet used in experiment I was supplemented with ML that had been protected from rumen degradation. Neither diet significantly increased live weight gain (LWG) in the 8-27 week old lambs over the whole period of the trial. However, there was a strong trend (p

The aim of this study was to develop an easy analytical method for determining aldicarb, propoxur, carbofuran, carbaryl and methiocarb residues in honey by high performance liquid chromatography with post-column derivatization and fluorescence detection (HPLC/PCD-FL) for routine analysis. A florisil packed column was used in sample preparation step and showed good performance. The recoveries ranged between 72.02 and 92.02% for various spiking levels (50, 100, 200 ng/g). The limits of detection were 4-5 ng/g, depending on different N-methylcarbamate pesticides. The extraction method used in the present study was easy, inexpensive, and rapid. Thus, it could be used efficiently in the routine monitoring studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
