Abstract Molecular imaging holds the potential for noninvasive and accurate grading of liver fibrosis. It is limited by the lack of biomarkers that strongly correlate with liver fibrosis grade. Here, we discover the grading potential of fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAPα) for liver fibrosis through transcriptional analysis and biological assays on clinical liver samples. The protein and mRNA expression of FAPα are linearly correlated with fibrosis grade (R2 = 0.89 and 0.91, respectively). A FAPα-responsive MRI molecular nanoprobe is prepared for quantitatively grading liver fibrosis. The nanoprobe is composed of superparamagnetic amorphous iron nanoparticles (AFeNPs) and paramagnetic gadoteric acid (Gd-DOTA) connected by FAPα-responsive peptide chains (ASGPAGPA). As liver fibrosis worsens, the increased FAPα cut off more ASGPAGPA, restoring a higher T1-MRI signal of Gd-DOTA. Otherwise, the signal remains quenched due to the distance-dependent magnetic resonance tuning (MRET) effect between AFeNPs and Gd-DOTA. The nanoprobe identifies F1, F2, F3, and F4 fibrosis, with area under the curve of 99.8%, 66.7%, 70.4%, and 96.3% in patients’ samples, respectively. This strategy exhibits potential in utilizing molecular imaging for the early detection and grading of liver fibrosis in the clinic.

Abstract The trail making test (TMT) is a commonly used tool for evaluating executive functions, and the activation of cerebral oxygenation in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) during the test can reflect the participation of executive function. This study aimed to compare the differences in cerebral oxygenation in the PFC between the computer- and paper-based versions of the TMT and provide a theoretical basis for the optimization and clinical application of the computer-based version. A total of 32 healthy adult participants completed the computer- and paper-based TMT Types A and B. Cerebral oxygenation changes in the PFC were monitored during the experiment using near-infrared spectroscopy. Abstract Background Leigh syndrome (LS) is a common mitochondrial disease caused by mutations in both mitochondrial and nuclear genes. Isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase 2 (IARS2) encodes mitochondrial isoleucine-tRNA synthetase, and variants in IARS2 have been reported to cause LS. However, the pathogenic mechanism of IARS2 variants is still unclear. Methods Two unrelated patients, a 4-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy diagnosed with LS, were recruited, and detailed clinical data were collected. The DNA of the patients and their parents was isolated from the peripheral blood for the identification of pathogenic variants using next-generation sequencing and Sanger sequencing. The ClustalW program, allele frequency analysis databases (gnomAD and ExAc), and pathogenicity prediction databases (Clinvar, Mutation Taster and PolyPhen2) were used to predict the conservation and pathogenicity of the variants. The gene expression level, oxygen consumption rate (OCR), respiratory chain complex activity, cellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were measured in patient-derived lymphocytes and IARS2-knockdown HEK293T cells to evaluate the pathogenicity of the variants. Results We reported 2 unrelated Chinese patients manifested with LS who carried biallelic IARS2 variants (c.1_390del and c.2450G > A from a 4-year-old boy, and c.2090G > A and c.2122G > A from a 5-year-old boy), of which c.1_390del and c.2090G > A were novel. Functional studies revealed that the patient-derived lymphocytes carrying c.1_390del and c.2450G > A variants exhibited impaired mitochondrial function due to severe mitochondrial complexes I and III deficiencies, which was also found in IARS2-knockdown HEK293T cells. The compensatory experiments in vitro cell models confirmed the pathogenicity of IARS2 variants since re-expression of wild-type IARS2 rather than mutant IARS2 could rescue complexes I and III deficiency, oxygen consumption, and cellular ATP content in IARS2 knockdown cells. Conclusion Our results not only expand the gene mutation spectrum of LS, but also reveal for the first time the pathogenic mechanism of IARS2 variants due to a combined deficiency of mitochondrial complexes I and III, which is helpful for the clinical diagnosis of IARS2 mutation-related diseases.

Abstract In recent years, microbial inoculants have showed a great potential to replace chemical fertilizers as a new generation of soil amendment agents, however, the understanding of their effects on nutrient cycling within plants and rhizosphere microbial diversity are still limited. In this study, the rhizosphere growth-promoting bacteria MQB12 was used to inoculate Vigna radiata to evaluate the effects of external inoculants on plant transcriptomics and rhizosphere soil microbial diversity. Enrichment analysis using GO and KEGG revealed significant enrichment in DNA-binding transcription factor activity, transcriptional regulatory factor activity, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis among the differentially expressed genes. MQB12 inoculation positively responded to phosphorus starvation response, increased the expression of phosphorus starvation response genes (PHT/PAP), enhanced the synthesis of ethylene and salicylic acid to cope with external stress, and improved the expression of plant disease resistance genes to strengthen the disease resistance of plants to pathogens. At the same time, microbial diversity analysis further revealed the positive effect of MQB12 inoculum. MQB12 inoculum enriched beneficial flora, improved flora abundance, changed the structure and diversity of V. radiata rhizosphere microbial community, enhanced the interconnections between the flora, and positively promoted growth. MQB12 was found to adjust the microflora of the rhizosphere, which subsequently changed the environment for plant colonization. This change led to the enrichment of beneficial bacteria and removal of pathogenic bacteria, which positively affected the internal pathways of plants. Additionally, changes in gene expression levels of plants resulted in the formation of different phenotypes and various metabolites, further influencing the formation of rhizosphere microbial communities through close contact between roots and soil. This study provides new insights into the effects of microbial agents on plant growth and root environment construction and is conducive to the further development and application of microbial agents. Abstract Background To explore the impact of diabetes on the clinical features and prognosis of COVID-19 and assess the influence of glucocorticoid use on the prognosis of patients with COVID-19 and diabetes. Methods This retrospective multicenter cohort study included patients admitted between December 2022 and January 2023. The patients were grouped according to diabetes and glucocorticoid use. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Results Among 400 patients with glucocorticoid data, 109 (27.3%) had diabetes. Abstract Background Deposition of amyloid β, which is produced by amyloidogenic cleavage of APP by β- and γ-secretase, is one of the primary hallmarks of AD pathology. APP can also be processed by α- and γ-secretase sequentially, to generate sAPPα, which has been shown to be neuroprotective by promoting neurite outgrowth and neuronal survival, etc. Methods The global expression profiles of miRNA in blood plasma samples taken from 11 AD patients as well as from 14 age and sex matched cognitively normal volunteers were analyzed using miRNA-seq. Then, overexpressed miR-140 and miR-122 both in vivo and in vitro, and knock-down of the endogenous expression of miR-140 and miR-122 in vitro. Used a combination of techniques, including molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, to detect the impact of miRNAs on AD pathology. Results In this study, we identified that two miRNAs, miR-140-3p and miR-122-5p, both targeting ADAM10, the main α-secretase in CNS, were upregulated in the blood plasma of AD patients. Overexpression of these two miRNAs in mouse brains induced cognitive decline in wild type C57BL/6J mice as well as exacerbated dyscognition in APP/PS1 mice. Although significant changes in APP and total Aβ were not detected, significantly downregulated ADAM10 and its non-amyloidogenic product, sAPPα, were observed in the mouse brains overexpressing miR-140/miR-122. Immunohistology analysis revealed increased neurite dystrophy that correlated with the reduced microglial chemotaxis in the hippocampi of these mice, independent of the other two ADAM10 substrates (neuronal CX3CL1 and microglial TREM2) that were involved in regulating the microglial immunoactivity. Further in vitro analysis demonstrated that both the reduced neuritic outgrowth of mouse embryonic neuronal cells overexpressing miR-140/miR-122 and the reduced Aβ phagocytosis in microglia cells co-cultured with HT22 cells overexpressing miR-140/miR-122 could be rescued by overexpressing the specific inhibitory sequence of miR-140/miR-122 TuD as well as by addition of sAPPα, rendering these miRNAs as potential therapeutic targets. Conclusions Our results suggested that neuroprotective sAPPα was a key player in the neuropathological progression induced by dysregulated expression of miR-140 and miR-122. Targeting these miRNAs might serve as a promising therapeutic strategy in AD treatment.

In large-diameter shield tunnels, applying the double-layer lining structure can improve the load-bearing properties and maintain the stability of segmental lining. The secondary lining thickness is a key parameter in the design of a double lining structure, which is worth being explored. Based on an actual large-diameter shield tunnel, loading model tests are carried out to investigate the effect of the secondary lining thickness on the mechanical behaviours of the double lining structure. The test results show that within the range of secondary lining thicknesses discussed, the load-bearing limit of the double-layer lining increases with growing secondary lining thickness. As a passive support, the secondary lining acts as an auxiliary load-bearing structure by contacting the segment. And changes in secondary lining thickness have a significant effect on the contact state between the segment and secondary lining, with both the contact pressure level and the contact area between the two varying. For double-layer lining structures in large-diameter shield tunnels, it is proposed that the stiffness of the secondary lining needs to be matched to the stiffness of the segment, as this allows them to have a coordinated deformation and a good joint load-bearing effect.

Abstract Background Mind wandering is a common phenomenon in daily life. However, the manifestations and cognitive correlates of mind wandering in different subclinical populations remain unclear. In this study, these aspects were examined in individuals with schizotypal traits and individuals with depressive symptoms, i.e., subclinical populations of patients with schizophrenia and depression. Methods Forty-two individuals with schizotypal traits, 42 individuals with subclinical depression, and 42 controls were recruited to complete a mind wandering thought sampling task (state level) and a mind wandering questionnaire (trait level). Measures of rumination and cognitive functions (attention, inhibition, and working memory) were also completed by participants. Results Both subclinical groups exhibited more state and trait mind wandering than did the control group. Furthermore, individuals with schizotypal traits demonstrated more trait mind wandering than individuals with subclinical depression. Rumination, sustained attention, and working memory were associated with mind wandering. In addition, mind wandering in individuals with subclinical depression can be accounted for by rumination or attention, while mind wandering in individuals with high schizotypal traits cannot be accounted for by rumination, attention, or working memory. Conclusions The results suggest that individuals with high schizotypal traits and subclinical depression have different patterns of mind wandering and mechanisms. These findings have implications for understanding the unique profile of mind wandering in subclinical individuals.

Abstract The taxonomic classification of Picea meyeri and P. mongolica has long been controversial. To investigate the genetic relatedness, evolutionary history, and population history dynamics of these species, genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) technology was utilized to acquire whole-genome single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, which were subsequently used to assess population structure, population dynamics, and adaptive differentiation. Phylogenetic and population structural analyses at the genomic level indicated that although the ancestor of P. mongolica was a hybrid of P. meyeri and P. koraiensis, P. mongolica is an independent Picea species. Additionally, P. mongolica is more closely related to P. meyeri than to P. koraiensis, which is consistent with its geographic distribution. There were up to eight instances of interspecific and intraspecific gene flow between P. meyeri and P. mongolica. The P. meyeri and P. mongolica effective population sizes generally decreased, and Maxent modeling revealed that from the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) to the present, their habitat areas decreased initially and then increased. However, under future climate scenarios, the habitat areas of both species were projected to decrease, especially under high-emission scenarios, which would place P. mongolica at risk of extinction and in urgent need of protection. Local adaptation has promoted differentiation between P. meyeri and P. mongolica. Genotype‒environment association analysis revealed 96,543 SNPs associated with environmental factors, mainly related to plant adaptations to moisture and temperature. Selective sweeps revealed that the selected genes among P. meyeri, P. mongolica and P. koraiensis are primarily associated in vascular plants with flowering, fruit development, and stress resistance. This research enhances our understanding of Picea species classification and provides a basis for future genetic improvement and species conservation efforts.

In order to explore the effect of immersion freezing on fruit texture, Huangguan pear was used as the test material, and different immersion freezing temperature (−20, −40 ℃) and immersion solution (single 30% calcium chloride impregnation solution, 30% calcium chloride+4% trehalose+0.05% polylysine composite impregnation solution). Hardness, the content of pectin and microstructure of tissue cells were determined, and the effect of immersion freezing on the texture characteristics of pear was analyzed. Abstract Fungal endophytes, as an untapped resource of glycoside hydrolase biocatalysts, need to be further developed. Mogroside V, the primary active compound in Siraitia grosvenorii fruit, can be converted into other various bioactive mogrosides by selective hydrolysis of glucose residues at C3 and C24 positions. In present study, 20 fungal strains were randomly selected from our endophytic fungal strain library to assess their capability for mogroside V transformation. The results revealed that relatively high rate (30%) endophytic fungal strains exhibited transformative potential. Further analysis indicated that endophytic fungi could produce abundant mogrosides, and the pathways for biotransforming mogroside V showed diverse. Among the given fungal endophytes, Aspergillus sp. S125 almost completely converted mogroside V into the end-products mogroside II A and aglycone within just 2 days of fermentation; Muyocopron sp. A5 produced rich intermediate products, including siamenoside I, and the end-product mogroside II E. Subsequently, we optimized the fermentation conditions for Aspergillus sp. S125 and Muyocopron sp. A5 to evaluate the feasibility of large-scale mogroside V conversion. After optimization, Aspergillus sp. S125 converted 10 g/L of mogroside V into 4.5 g/L of mogroside II A and 3.6 g/L of aglycone after 3 days of fermentation, whereas Muyocopron sp. A5 selectively produced 4.88 g/L of siamenoside I from 7.5 g/L of mogroside V after 36 h of fermentation. This study not only identifies highly effective biocatalytic candidates for mogrosides transformation, but also strongly suggests the potential of plant endophytic fungi as valuable resources for the biocatalysis of natural compounds.

Abstract A series of 20 novel gefitinib derivatives incorporating the 1,2,3-triazole moiety were designed and synthesized. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their potential anticancer activity against EGFR wild-type human non-small cell lung cancer cells (NCI-H1299, A549) and human lung adenocarcinoma cells (NCI-H1437) as non-small cell lung cancer. In comparison to gefitinib, Initial biological assessments revealed that several compounds exhibited potent anti-proliferative activity against these cancer cell lines. Notably, compounds 7a and 7j demonstrated the most pronounced effects, with an IC50 value of 3.94 ± 0.17 µmol L−1 (NCI-H1299), 3.16 ± 0.11 µmol L−1 (A549), and 1.83 ± 0.13 µmol L−1 (NCI-H1437) for 7a, and an IC50 value of 3.84 ± 0.22 µmol L−1 (NCI-H1299), 3.86 ± 0.38 µmol L−1 (A549), and 1.69 ± 0.25 µmol L−1 (NCI-H1437) for 7j. These two compounds could inhibit the colony formation and migration ability of H1299 cells, and induce apoptosis in H1299 cells. Acute toxicity experiments on mice demonstrated that compound 7a exhibited low toxicity in mice. Based on these results, it is proposed that 7a and 7j could potentially be developed as novel drugs for the treatment of lung cancer.

Abstract Background Viral myocarditis (VMC) is a disease resulting from viral infection, which manifests as inflammation of myocardial cells. Until now, the treatment of VMC is still a great challenge for clinicians. Increasing studies indicate the participation of miR-29b-3p in various diseases. According to the transcriptome sequencing analysis, miR-29b-3p was markedly upregulated in the viral myocarditis model. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of miR-29b-3p in the progression of VMC. Methods We used CVB3 to induce primary cardiomyocytes and mice to establish a model of viral myocarditis. The purity of primary cardiomyocytes was identified by immunofluorescence. The cardiac function of mice was detected by Vevo770 imaging system. The area of inflammatory infiltration in heart tissue was shown by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. The expression of miR-29b-3p and DNMT3A was detected by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT–PCR). The expression of a series of pyroptosis-related proteins was detected by western blot. The role of miR-29b-3p/DNMT3A in CVB3-induced pyroptosis of cardiomyocytes was studied in this research. Results Our data showed that the expression of miR-29b-3p was upregulated in CVB3-induced cardiomyocytes and heart tissues in mice. To explore the function of miR-29b-3p in CVB3-induced VMC, we conducted in vivo experiments by knocking down the expression of miR-29b-3p using antagomir. We then assessed the effects on mice body weight, histopathology changes, myocardial function, and cell pyroptosis in heart tissues. Additionally, we performed gain/loss-of-function experiments in vitro to measure the levels of pyroptosis in primary cardiomyocytes. Through bioinformatic analysis, we identified DNA methyltransferases 3A (DNMT3A) as a potential target gene of miR-29b-3p. Furthermore, we found that the expression of DNMT3A can be modulated by miR-29b-3p during CVB3 infection. Conclusions Our results demonstrate a correlation between the expression of DNMT3A and CVB3-induced pyroptosis in cardiomyocytes. These findings unveil a previously unidentified mechanism by which CVB3 induces cardiac injury through the regulation of miR-29b-3p/DNMT3A-mediated pyroptosis.

Abstract The aim of this study is to compare ecologically-valid measure (the Cambridge Prospective Memory Test, CAMPROMPT) and laboratory measure (eye-tracking paradigm) in assessing prospective memory (PM) in individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs). In addition, eye-tracking indices are used to examine the relationship between PM and other cognitive domains in SSDs patients. Initially, the study sample was formed by 32 SSDs patients and 32 healthy control subjects (HCs) who were matched in sociodemographic profile and the performance on CAMPROMPT. An eye-tracking paradigm was employed to examine the differences in PM accuracy and key cognitive processes (e.g., cue monitoring) between the two groups. Additional 31 patients were then recruited to investigate the relationship between PM cue monitoring, other cognitive functions, and the severity of clinical symptoms within the SSDs group. The monitoring of PM cue was reflected in total fixation time and total fixation counts for distractor words. Cognitive functions were assessed using the Chinese version of the MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB). The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) was applied to assess psychopathology. SSDs patients exhibited fewer total fixation counts for distractor words and lower PM accuracy compared to HCs, even though they were priori matched on CAMPROMPT. Correlation analysis within the SSDs group (63 cases) indicated a negative correlation between PM accuracy and PANSS total score, and a positive correlation with working memory and attention/vigilance. Regression analysis within the SSDs group revealed that higher visual learning and lower PANSS total scores independently predicted more total fixation counts on distractor words. Impairment in cue monitoring is a critical factor in the PM deficits in SSDs. The eye-tracking laboratory paradigm has advantages over the ecologically-valid measurement in identifying the failure of cue detection, making it a more sensitive tool for PM deficits in patients with SSDs.

Background: Traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) is a major contributor to urban pollution and varies sharply at the street level, posing a challenge for air quality modeling. Traditional land use regression models combined with data from fixed monitoring stations may be unable to predict and characterize fine-scale TRAP, especially in complex urban environments influenced by various features. This study aims to estimate fine-scale (50 m) concentrations of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO₂) in Hong Kong using a deep learning (DL) structured model. Methods: We collected data from mobile air quality sensors on buses and crowd-sourced Google real-time traffic status as a proxy for real-time traffic emissions. Our DL model was compared with existing machine learning models to assess performance improvements. Using an interpretable machine learning method, we hierarchically evaluated the global, local, and interaction effects for different features. Results: Our DL model outperformed existing machine learning models, achieving R2 values of 0.72 for NO and 0.69 for NO₂. The incorporation of traffic status as a key predictor improved model performance by 9% to 17%. The interpretable machine learning method revealed the importance of traffic-related features and their pairwise interactions. Conclusion: The results indicate that traffic-related features significantly contribute to TRAP and provide insights and guidance for urban planning. By incorporating crowd-sourced Google traffic information, we assessed traffic abatement scenarios that could inform targeted strategies for improving urban air quality.

Abstract To study the interspecific differentiation characteristics of species originating from recent radiation, the genotyping‐by‐sequencing (GBS) technique was used to explore the kinship, population structure, gene flow, genetic variability, genotype–environment association and selective sweeps of Picea asperata complex with similar phenotypes from a genome‐wide perspective. The following results were obtained: 14 populations of P. asperata complex could be divided into 5 clades; P. wilsonii and P. neoveitchii diverged earlier and were more distantly related to the remaining 6 spruce species. Various geological events have promoted the species differentiation of P. asperata complex. There were four instances of gene flow among P. koraiensis, P. meyeri, P. asperata, P. crassifolia and P. mongolica. The population of P. mongolica had the highest level of nucleotide diversity, and P. neoveitchii may have experienced a bottleneck recently. Genotype–environment association found that a total of 20,808 genes were related to the environmental variables, which enhanced the adaptability of spruce in different environments. Genes that were selectively swept in the P. asperata complex were primarily associated with plant stress resistance. Among them were some genes involved in plant growth and development, heat stress, circadian rhythms and flowering. In addition to the commonly selected genes, different spruce species also displayed unique genes subjected to selective sweeps that improved their adaptability to different habitats. Understanding the interspecific gene flow and adaptive evolution of Picea species is beneficial to further understanding the species relationships of spruce and can provide a basis for studying spruce introgression and functional genomics.

Introduction: The development of small molecule modulators rooted the plant resistance mechanism represents a compelling strategy for improving plant resistance and fortifying food security. Systemins induced by wounds can activate a wide range of plant resistance responses, but compounds that regulate the systemin signaling pathway have yet to be found. Objectives: This study aimed to provide a strategy for the development of small molecule modulators based on virtual screening of systemin receptors. Methods: A systemin receptor model was established for virtual screening, leading to the identification of chemical structure with high binding affinity through molecular docking. Subsequently, the synthesized compound underwent evaluation for its potential to enhance plant resistance against viruses through frictional inoculation. The underlying mechanism of the target compound was analyzed using proteomics. Results: Through virtual screening, a promising active compound, F1, was identified and further optimized. Molecular docking showed that they had the ability to bind SR160. Some of the targeted compounds exhibited potential in enhancing plant resistance against Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). Notably, compound F26 showed satisfactory activity against TMV with an EC50 value of 70.6 μg/mL. The analysis of plant response following treatment with F26 indicated that it may reinforce the plant’s defense mechanisms against viruses by augmenting the wound signaling pathway.

Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC) is regarded as one of the most important priority pathogens within the One Health interface. However, few studies have investigated the occurrence of ESBL-EC in giant pandas, along with their antibiotic-resistant characteristics and horizontal gene transfer abilities. In this study, we successfully identified 12 ESBL-EC strains (8.33%, 12/144) out of 144 E. coli strains which isolated from giant pandas. We further detected antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), virulence-associated genes (VAGs) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) among the 12 ESBL-EC strains, and the results showed that 13 ARGs and 11 VAGs were detected, of which blaCTX-M (100.00%, 12/12, with 5 variants observed) and papA (83.33%, 10/12) were the most prevalent, respectively. And ISEcp1 (66.67%, 8/12) and IS26 (66.67%, 8/12) were the predominant MGEs. Furthermore, horizontal gene transfer ability analysis of the 12 ESBL-EC showed that all blaCTX-M genes could be transferred by conjugative plasmids, indicating high horizontal gene transfer ability. In addition, ARGs of rmtB and sul2, VAGs of papA, fimC and ompT, MGEs of ISEcp1 and IS26 were all found to be co-transferred with blaCTX-M. Phylogenetic analysis clustered these ESBL-EC strains into group B2 (75.00%, 9/12), D (16.67%, 2/12), and B1 (8.33%, 1/12), and 10 sequence types (STs) were identified among 12 ESBL-EC (including ST48, ST127, ST206, ST354, ST648, ST1706, and four new STs). Our present study showed that ESBL-EC strains from captive giant pandas are reservoirs of ARGs, VAGs and MGEs that can co-transfer with blaCTX-M via plasmids. Transmissible ESBL-EC strains with high diversity of resistance and virulence elements are a potential threat to humans, animals and surrounding environment.

BackgroundRadiogenomics is an emerging technology that integrates genomics and medical image–based radiomics, which is considered a promising approach toward achieving precision medicine. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to quantitatively analyze the research status, dynamic trends, and evolutionary trajectory in the radiogenomics field using bibliometric methods. MethodsThe relevant literature published up to 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Excel was used to analyze the annual publication trend. VOSviewer was used for constructing the keywords co-occurrence network and the collaboration networks among countries and institutions. CiteSpace was used for citation keywords burst analysis and visualizing the references timeline. ResultsA total of 3237 papers were included and exported in plain-text format. The annual number of publications showed an increasing annual trend. China and the United States have published the most papers in this field, with the highest number of citations in the United States and the highest average number per item in the Netherlands. Keywords burst analysis revealed that several keywords, including “big data,” “magnetic resonance spectroscopy,” “renal cell carcinoma,” “stage,” and “temozolomide,” experienced a citation burst in recent years. The timeline views demonstrated that the references can be categorized into 8 clusters: lower-grade glioma, lung cancer histology, lung adenocarcinoma, breast cancer, radiation-induced lung injury, epidermal growth factor receptor mutation, late radiotherapy toxicity, and artificial intelligence. ConclusionsThe field of radiogenomics is attracting increasing attention from researchers worldwide, with the United States and the Netherlands being the most influential countries. Exploration of artificial intelligence methods based on big data to predict the response of tumors to various treatment methods represents a hot spot research topic in this field at present.

Abstract Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of gynecological cancer-related death. Drug resistance is the bottleneck in ovarian cancer treatment. The increasing use of novel drugs in clinical practice poses challenges for the treatment of drug-resistant ovarian cancer. Continuing to classify drug resistance according to drug type without understanding the underlying mechanisms is unsuitable for current clinical practice. We reviewed the literature regarding various drug resistance mechanisms in ovarian cancer and found that the main resistance mechanisms are as follows: abnormalities in transmembrane transport, alterations in DNA damage repair, dysregulation of cancer-associated signaling pathways, and epigenetic modifications. DNA methylation, histone modifications and noncoding RNA activity, three key classes of epigenetic modifications, constitute pivotal mechanisms of drug resistance. One drug can have multiple resistance mechanisms. Moreover, common chemotherapies and targeted drugs may have cross (overlapping) resistance mechanisms. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can interfere with and thus regulate the abovementioned pathways. A subclass of miRNAs, “epi-miRNAs”, can modulate epigenetic regulators to impact therapeutic responses. Thus, we also reviewed the regulatory influence of miRNAs on resistance mechanisms. Moreover, we summarized recent phase I/II clinical trials of novel drugs for ovarian cancer based on the abovementioned resistance mechanisms. A multitude of new therapies are under evaluation, and the preliminary results are encouraging. This review provides new insight into the classification of drug resistance mechanisms in ovarian cancer and may facilitate in the successful treatment of resistant ovarian cancer.

Introduction: The epithelial immunomodulation and regeneration are intrinsic critical events against inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). MiR-7 is well documented as a promising regulator in the development of various diseases including inflammatory diseases. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effect of miR-7 in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) in IBD. Methods: MiR-7def mice were given dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) to induce enteritis model. The infiltration of inflammatory cells was measured by FCM and immunofluorescence assay. 5′deletion assay and EMSA assays were performed to study the regulatory mechanism of miR-7 expression in IECs. The inflammatory signals and the targets of miR-7 were analyzed by RNA-seq and FISH assay. IECs were isolated from miR-7def, miR-7oe and WT mice to identify the immunomodulation and regeneration capacity. IEC-specific miR-7 silencing expression vector was designed and administered by the tail vein into murine DSS-induced enteritis model to evaluate the pathological lesions of IBD. Results: We found miR-7 deficiency improved the pathological lesions of DSS-induced murine enteritis model, accompanied by elevated proliferation and enhanced transduction of NF-κB/AKT/ERK signals in colonic IECs, as well as decreased local infiltration of inflammatory cells. MiR-7 was dominantly upregulated in colonic IECs in colitis. Moreover, the transcription of pre-miR-7a-1, orchestrated by transcription factor C/EBPα, was a main resource of mature miR-7 in IECs. As for the mechanism, EGFR, a miR-7 target gene, was downregulated in colonic IECs in colitis model and Crohn's disease patients. Furthermore, miR-7 also controlled the proliferation and inflammatory-cytokine secretion of IECs in response to inflammatory-signals through EGFR/NF-κB/AKT/ERK pathway. Finally, IEC-specific miR-7 silencing promoted the proliferation and transduction of NF-κB pathway in IECs and alleviated the pathological damage of colitis. Conclusion: Our results present the unknown role of miR-7/EGFR axis in IEC immunomodulation and regeneration in IBD and might provide clues for the application of miRNA-based therapeutic strategies in colonic diseases.

Frozen pears, obtained by repeated freezing and thawing under cold outdoor conditions in winter, are very popular in northeast China. The effects of three freeze-thaw cycles (FT1–FT3) on Nanguo pear flavor were studied under fast (−80°C) and slow (−20°C) freezing conditions. Significant differences were found in the flavor of Nanguo pear after subsequent freeze-thaw cycles. The total soluble solid (TSS) content of fresh pear was 14.17 g/100 g and increased significantly after the first freeze-thaw cycle to 17.57–18.17 g/100 g. Lower TSS content was found in pears after the repeated freeze-thawing process. Citric acid was determined as the main organic acid of Nanguo pear. Its content and the overall content of organic acids decreased successively after each freezing and thawing cycle. The electronic tongue analysis results showed that the sourness of fresh pears generally decreased after their repeated freezing and thawing, that the odor of Nanguo pear changed significantly after freeze-thaw cycles, and that nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons were the most differentiating odor compounds. The content of ethyl caproate was the highest in the volatile compound profile of the Nanguo pear and ranged from 377.26 to 526.77 μg/kg. In short, after repeated freezing and thawing, the changes in the chemical composition impart the frozen pear a unique flavor.

Abstract Wide-field magnetic imaging based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond has been shown the applicability in material and biological science. However, the spatial resolution is limited by the optical diffraction limit (>200 nm) due to the optical real-space localization and readout of NV centers. Here, we report the wide-field Fourier magnetic imaging technique to improve spatial resolution beyond the optical diffraction limit while maintaining the large field of view. Our method relies on wide-field pulsed magnetic field gradient encoding of NV spins and Fourier transform under pixel-dependent spatial filters. We have improved spatial resolution by a factor of 20 compared to the optical resolution and demonstrated the wide-field super-resolution magnetic imaging of a gradient magnetic field. This technique paves a way for efficient magnetic imaging of large-scale fine structures at the nanoscale.

Objective To investigate the level of serum bone metabolism and biochemical markers and bone density of plasmapheresis donors, and to provide scientific basis for ensuring the health and safety of plasmapheresis donors in China. Methods A total of 437 plasmapheresis donors from Linwu plasmapheresis station in Hunan Province from July 1 to September 30, 2022 were recruited to determine the levels of total serum calcium, albumin, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD), serum type I procollagen N-terminal propeptide (P1NP), and collagen type 1 crosslinked carboxyl-terminal peptide (β-CTX). Dual-energy X-ray method was used to measure the bone density of the anteroposterior lumbar spine (L1-L4) and bilateral femoral neck bone density of plasmapheresis donors. Plasmapheresis donors were grouped according to the type of plasma donation (first-time and repeat plasmapheresis donors) and the total number of plasma donations to assess the differences in bone density and serum bone metabolism biochemical markers between groups. The dose-response relationship between the total number of plasmapheresis donations and biochemical indexes was analyzed by limiting cubic spline, and the influencing factors of different indexes were explored by multiple linear regression. Results A total of 437 plasmapheresis donors were included in this study, including 187 first-time plasmapheresis donors and 250 repeat plasmapheresis donors. There were no significant differences in bone density and prevalence of osteoporosis between first-time donors and repeat donors (P>0.05). There was also no significant difference in bone density levels between groups of total number of plasmapheresis donations. The levels of albumin and 25OHD decreased with the increase of the total number of plasma donations, while the serum P1NP level was positively correlated with the total number of plasma donations. Abstract Chemotherapeutic agents, including cisplatin, have remained a cornerstone of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) treatment and continue to play an essential role in clinical practice, despite remarkable progress in therapeutic strategies. Hence, a thorough comprehension of the molecular mechanisms underlying chemotherapeutic agent resistance is paramount. Our investigation centered on the potential involvement of the NPAS2 gene in LUAD, which is highly expressed in tumors and its high expression has been associated with unfavorable overall survival rates in patients. Intriguingly, we observed that the depletion of NPAS2 in LUAD cells resulted in increased susceptibility to cisplatin treatment. Furthermore, mRNA sequencing analysis revealed that NPAS2 deficiency downregulated genes crucial to DNA repair. Additionally, NPAS2 depletion significantly impairs γH2AX accumulation, a pivotal component of the DNA damage response. Further investigation demonstrates that NPAS2 plays a crucial role in DNA double-strand breakage repair via homology-directed repair (HDR). Our inquiry into the molecular mechanisms underlying NPAS2 regulation of DDR revealed that it may enhance the stability of H2AX mRNA by binding to its mRNA, thereby upregulating the DNA damage repair pathway. In-vivo experiments further confirmed the crucial role of NPAS2 in modulating the effect of cisplatin in LUAD. Taken together, our findings suggest that NPAS2 binds to and enhances the stability of H2AX mRNA, thereby decreasing the sensitivity of tumor cells to chemotherapy by augmenting DNA damage repair.

Abstract Understanding symmetry-breaking states of materials is a major challenge in the modern physical sciences. Quantum atmosphere proposed recently sheds light on the hidden world of these symmetry broken patterns. Yet, no experiment has been performed to demonstrate its potential. In our experiment, we prepare time-reversal-symmetry conserved and broken quantum atmosphere of a single nuclear spin and successfully observe their symmetry properties. Our work proves in principle that finding symmetry patterns from quantum atmosphere is conceptually viable. It also opens up entirely new possibilities in the potential application of quantum sensing in material diagnosis.

Objective This cohort study was to assess the association between serum calcium levels and the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients.Methods This study was analyzed using data of 1286 AMI patients aged ≥18 years who stayed in ICU more than 24 h in Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database. Univariable logistic regression model was established to identify potential covariates. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression models were used to analyze the association between serum calcium and the risk of AKI in patients with AMI. The association between serum calcium and the risk of AKI in patients with AMI was also shown by restricted cubic spline (RCS) plot. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated.Results The median follow-up time was 1.61 (1.23, 2.30) days, and 436 (33.90%) participants had AKI at the end of follow-up. After adjusting for covariates, elevated level of serum calcium level was related to reduced risk of AKI in AMI patients (OR = 0.88, 95%CI: 0.80–0.98). Decreased risk of AKI was found in AMI patients with serum calcium level of 8.40–8.90 mg/dL (OR = 0.54, 95%CI: 0.34–0.86) or ≥8.90 mg/dL (OR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.37–0.99). The RCS plot depicted that serum calcium level was negatively correlated with the risk of AKI in patients with AMI.Conclusions AMI patients with AKI had lower serum calcium levels compared with those without AKI. Increased serum calcium level was associated with decreased risk of AKI in patients with AMI.

Rhizosphere microorganisms are important for maintaining soil and plant health and promoting plant growth and development. Screening rhizosphere growth-promoting bacteria with unique habitats, high activity and multiple functions is conducive to exploring the potential stress resistance of growth-promoting bacteria, and further improving the applicability of microbial fertilizers in agricultural production in response to the development concept of green agriculture. The aim of this study was to investigate the physiological activity of the culturable core growth-promoting bacteria of Dicranopteris dichotoma and verify their growth-promoting effect on mung bean (Vigna radiata) growth. A total of 41 bacterial strains were isolated in this study; 21 strains had more than one physiological activity, among which the highest siderophores units (SU) were 97.1%, and the highest IAA yield was 134.46 mg/L. According to morphology and 16S rRNA, three strains of Bacillus sp. and one strain of Pantoea sp. were screened, all of which were predicted to have the functions of phosphorous solubilization, cellulase production, IAA production and siderophores production. In a pot experiment, these four strains were inoculated in the rhizosphere soil every 7 days for a total of 4 times, and the aerial and underground biomass, plant height, root length and leaf number of V. radiata plants increased significantly 30 days after the last inoculation. The strains isolated in this study have excellent plant growth promoting (PGP) properties and were expected to be used as a new biological inoculant in practical production.

This paper investigates the synchronization of a complex network based on a class of random impulsive differential equation systems. Based on the random impulsive strategy of Poisson distribution, a random impulsive dynamical network model is constructed. Using the Lyapunov principle, random process theory, linear matrix inequality method, and some basic analysis methods, we realize the global mean-square index synchronization of the model. We then get sufficient criteria for the synchronization. By presenting a numerical example, we verified the validity of the theoretical results.

IntroductionPreeclampsia is a disease with an unknown pathogenesis and is one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity. At present, early identification of high-risk groups for preeclampsia and timely intervention with aspirin is an effective preventive method against preeclampsia. This study aims to develop a robust and effective preeclampsia prediction model with good performance by machine learning algorithms based on maternal characteristics, biophysical and biochemical markers at 11–13 + 6 weeks’ gestation, providing an effective tool for early screening and prediction of preeclampsia.MethodsThis study included 5116 singleton pregnant women who underwent PE screening and fetal aneuploidy from a prospective cohort longitudinal study in China. Maternal characteristics (such as maternal age, height, pre-pregnancy weight), past medical history, mean arterial pressure, uterine artery pulsatility index, pregnancy-associated plasma protein A, and placental growth factor were collected as the covariates for the preeclampsia prediction model. Five classification algorithms including Logistic Regression, Extra Trees Classifier, Voting Classifier, Gaussian Process Classifier and Stacking Classifier were applied for the prediction model development. Five-fold cross-validation with an 8:2 train-test split was applied for model validation.ResultsWe ultimately included 49 cases of preterm preeclampsia and 161 cases of term preeclampsia from the 4644 pregnant women data in the final analysis. Compared with other prediction algorithms, the AUC and detection rate at 10% FPR of the Voting Classifier algorithm showed better performance in the prediction of preterm preeclampsia (AUC=0.884, DR at 10%FPR=0.625) under all covariates included. However, its performance was similar to that of other model algorithms in all PE and term PE prediction. In the prediction of all preeclampsia, the contribution of PLGF was higher than PAPP-A (11.9% VS 8.7%), while the situation was opposite in the prediction of preterm preeclampsia (7.2% VS 16.5%). The performance for preeclampsia or preterm preeclampsia using machine learning algorithms was similar to that achieved by the fetal medicine foundation competing risk model under the same predictive factors (AUCs of 0.797 and 0.856 for PE and preterm PE, respectively).ConclusionsOur models provide an accessible tool for large-scale population screening and prediction of preeclampsia, which helps reduce the disease burden and improve maternal and fetal outcomes.

Phthalates (PAEs) have become one of the main pollutants threatening the safety and quality of vegetable production. Application of bio-organic soil amendments is a promising approach to eliminate the pollutants and improve the vegetable quality. In the present study, we constructed a functional endophytic organic fertilizer (EOF) with a PAEs degrading endophyte Bacillus subtilis strain HB-T2, which had the ability to eliminate PAEs both inside the vegetables and soil. A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of EOF on PAEs degradation, rhizosphere microbiota, vegetable quality and soil fertility, the results were also compared to chemical fertilizer (CF), organic fertilizer (OF, sterilized EOF) treatments. BackgroundThis study aims to explore the correlation between urban green space coverage and resident health, and to analyze its underlying mechanisms.MethodsUsing panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2006 to 2022, which mainly includes urban green space coverage, general health of the population, air quality, and social connectivity. This research constructed a fixed effects model to perform baseline regression analysis. A series of robustness tests, including variable substitution, controlling for geographical differences, regional robustness tests, and shortening the time span of the study, further verified the robustness of the results. Additionally, mechanism tests were conducted to examine the positive impacts of urban green spaces on resident health by improving air quality and enhancing social connectivity.ResultsThe findings indicate a significant positive correlation between urban green space coverage and resident health levels. That is, the greater the area covered with urban green space, the healthier the residents of the area will be. Robustness tests support the reliability of this finding, while mechanism analysis reveals that urban green spaces have a positive impact on the health of the population by improving air quality and increasing social connectivity.DiscussionThis study underscores the importance of urban green space planning in improving resident health and quality of life, providing urban planners with scientific evidence to optimize urban green systems for broader health objectives.

Neonicotinoids (NEOs), a large class of organic compounds, are a type of commonly used pesticide for crop protection. Their uptake and accumulation in plants are prerequisites for their intra- and intercellular movements, transformation, and function. Understanding the molecular mechanisms that underpin NEO uptake by plants is crucial for effective application, which remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate that NEOs enter plant cells primarily through the transmembrane symplastic pathway and accumulate mainly in the cytosol. Two plasma membrane intrinsic proteins discovered in Brassica rapa, BraPIP1;1 and BraPIP2;1, were found to encode aquaporins (AQPs) that are highly permeable to NEOs in different plant species and facilitate NEO subcellular diffusion and accumulation. Their conserved transport function was further demonstrated in Xenopus laevis oocyte and yeast assays. BraPIP1;1 and BraPIP2;1 gene knockouts and interaction assays suggested that their proteins can form functional heterotetramers. Assessment of the potential of mean force indicated a negative correlation between NEO uptake and the energy barrier of BraPIP1;1 channels. This study shows that AQPs transport organic compounds with greater osmolarity than previously thought, providing new insight into the molecular mechanisms of organic compound uptake and facilitating innovations in systemic pesticides.

Summary: Depressive symptoms usually precede the cognitive decline in Alzheimer disease (AD) and worsen the clinical outcome. However, the neural circuitry mediating early emotional dysfunction, especially depressive symptoms in AD, remains elusive. Anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is closely related to depression and vulnerable in AD. By quantitative whole-brain mapping and electrophysiological recording, we found that the decreased axonal calcium activity in neurons of ACC and the glutamatergic projection from ACC to the ventral hippocampal CA1 (vCA1) is significantly impaired in 3-month-old 5×FAD mice, which exhibit depressive-like phenotype before cognition defects in early stage. The activation of ACC-vCA1 circuit by chemogenetic manipulation efficiently ameliorated the early depressive-like behaviors in 5×FAD mice. We further identified the upregulated neuregulin-1 (Nrg1) in ACC impaired the excitatory synaptic transmission from the ACC to vCA1 in AD. Our work reveals the role of ACC-vCA1 circuit in regulating AD associated depression symptom in a mouse model of AD.

Quantum networks, endowed with their distinct quantum properties, are poised to emerge as indispensable platforms for the implementation of quantum information technology applications in the near future. Within the realm of quantum networks, the transmission of remote quantum information presents a pivotal and intricate challenge, commonly referred to as the entanglement routing problem. While previous efforts have delved into the intricacies of entanglement routing, there has been a notable oversight concerning the crucial parameter of entanglement fidelity. Hence, this paper introduces a novel Purification-enabled Entanglement Routing Algorithm (PERA). Initially, PERA utilizes the network throughput as the routing metric and ensures fidelity guarantees on all nodes in the link through a hop-by-hop purification process. Subsequently, acknowledging the probabilistic nature of entanglement purification, a strategy involving multiple attempts at purification is employed. Finally, a comprehensive utility function is deployed to address the path selection problem for multiple source–destination pairs. Numerical simulations confirm that PERA establishes entanglement connections with outstanding fidelity guarantees. Concurrently, PERA outperforms the baseline algorithm in terms of network throughput and resource utilization.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) has attracted extensive attention in cancer treatment because of its advantages of non-invasive and few side effects. Gold nanoparticles and boron-fluorine-dipyrrole (BODIPY) dye have been used as photothermal agents (PTAs), but they have problems such as easy aggregation, poor water solubility and low photothermal conversion efficiency. In this work, we used conventional liposomes for in situ generation of small gold nanoparticles and sequentially loading BODIPY to overcome the drawbacks of the two PTAs and simultaneously realize enhanced PTT. Gold- and BODIPY-coordinated liposomal nanocomplexes LAB with small gold nanoparticles adsorbed on the surface and BODIPY entrapped inside showed uniform size of about 100 nm with good stability. LAB demonstrated laser-responsive drug release property, good cellular uptake efficiency and tumor accumulation ability. After laser irradiation, LAB can exert enhanced PTT in cancer cell lines by reducing mitochondrial membrane potential and increase intracellular reactive oxygen species level to promote cell apoptosis. In tumor-bearing mice, LAB showed fantastic tumor inhibition effect with good biosafety. This work provides a convenient method to develop PTA combinations for enhanced PTT, which could lay the foundation for the green construction of new PTAs for PTT by employing clinically used formulations and PTAs.

Secondary acute lymphoblastic leukemia (s-ALL) refers to acute lymphoblastic leukemia that occurs after a previous malignant tumor, including therapy-related acute lymphoblastic leukemia (t-ALL) and prior malignant tumor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (pm-ALL). We report a case of a 51-year-old female patient who developed acute lymphoblastic leukemia 14 years after being diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The patient was unresponsive to conventional chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and achieved remission with a combination of sorafenib and decitabine based on the molecular biology characteristics of her B-ALL.

IntroductionThe composition of the intestinal microbiome correlates significantly with an animal’s health status. Hence, this indicator is highly important and sensitive for protecting endangered animals. However, data regarding the fungal diversity of the wild Budorcas taxicolor (takin) gut remain scarce. Therefore, this study analyzes the fungal diversity, community structure, and pathogen composition in the feces of wild B. taxicolor.MethodsTo ensure comprehensive data analyses, we collected 82 fecal samples from five geographical sites. Amplicon sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rRNA was used to assess fecal core microbiota and potential pathogens to determine whether the microflora composition is related to geographical location or diet. We further validated the ITS rRNA sequencing results via amplicon metagenomic sequencing and culturing of fecal fungi.Results and discussionThe fungal diversity in the feces of wild Budorcas taxicolor primarily comprised three phyla (99.69%): Ascomycota (82.19%), Fungi_unclassified (10.37%), and Basidiomycota (7.13%). At the genus level, the predominant fungi included Thelebolus (30.93%), Functional_unclassified (15.35%), and Ascomycota_unclassified (10.37%). Within these genera, certain strains exhibit pathogenic properties, such as Thelebolus, Cryptococcus, Trichosporon, Candida, Zopfiella, and Podospora. Collectively, this study offers valuable information for evaluating the health status of B. taxicolor and formulating protective strategies.

Background:Numerous studies have reported a high incidence and risk of severe illness due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). COVID-19 patients may experience elevated or decreased blood sugar levels and may even develop diabetes. However, the molecular mechanisms linking these two diseases remain unclear. This study aimed to identify the common genes and pathways between T2DM and COVID-19.Methods:Two public datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database (GSE95849 and GSE164805) were analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in blood between people with and without T2DM and COVID-19. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses were performed on the common DEGs. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed to identify common genes, and their diagnostic performance was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Validation was performed on the GSE213313 and GSE15932 datasets. A gene co-expression network was constructed using the GeneMANIA database to explore interactions among core DEGs and their co-expressed genes. Finally, a microRNA (miRNA)-transcription factor (TF)-messenger RNA (mRNA) regulatory network was constructed based on the common feature genes.Results:In the GSE95849 and GSE164805 datasets, 81 upregulated genes and 140 downregulated genes were identified. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses revealed that these DEGs were closely related to the negative regulation of phosphate metabolic processes, the positive regulation of mitotic nuclear division, T-cell co-stimulation, and lymphocyte co-stimulation. Four upregulated common genes (DHX15, USP14, COPS3, TYK2) and one downregulated common feature gene (RIOK2) were identified and showed good diagnostic accuracy for T2DM and COVID-19. The AUC values of DHX15, USP14, COPS3, TYK2, and RIOK2 in T2DM diagnosis were 0.931, 0.917, 0.986, 0.903, and 0.917, respectively. In COVID-19 diagnosis, the AUC values were 0.960, 0.860, 1.0, 0.9, and 0.90, respectively. Validation in the GSE213313 and GSE15932 datasets confirmed these results. The miRNA-TF-mRNA regulatory network showed that TYH2 was targeted by PITX1, PITX2, CRX, NFYA, SREBF1, RELB, NR1L2, and CEBP, whereas miR-124-3p regulates THK2, RIOK2, and USP14.Conclusion:We identified five common feature genes (DHX15, USP14, COPS3, TYK2, and RIOK2) and their co-regulatory pathways between T2DM and COVID-19, which may provide new insights for further molecular mechanism studies.

PurposesDomestic and international research has found that patients with advanced cancer prioritize increasing their quality of life above extending their lives with simple or intensive treatments. The current study investigates the pathways to improve patients’ sense of well-being from the family, social, and individual levels, that is to say, it investigates the mediating roles of comprehending social support as well as psychological resilience in the relationship between family resilience and subjective well-being, and it also provides references for future intervention.MethodThe Family Resilience Questionnaire (FRQ), General Well-being Schedule (GWB), Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), and the Chinese version of the Cornor-Davidson Resilience Scale 10-item (CD-RISC) were all completed by 338 patients with advanced cancer who took part in the study.ResultsThe study’s findings demonstrated a significant and positive correlation between family resilience, subjective well-being, perceived social support, and psychological resilience. Additionally, there was a significant direct effect of family resilience on subjective well-being as well as a mediating and chain mediating effect between perceived social support and psychological resilience. The findings of this study will be very helpful in the future when it comes to enhancing the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer through intervention.ConclusionSubjective well-being can be influenced directly by the family resilience of advanced cancer patients, or indirectly through the psychological resilience and perceived social support.

Summary: Neuromodulation is pivotal in modifying neuronal properties and motor states. CKR-1, a homolog of the cholecystokinin receptor, modulates robust escape steering and undulation body bending in C. elegans. Nevertheless, the mechanisms through which CKR-1 governs these motor states remain elusive. We elucidate the head motoneuron SMD as the orchestrator of both motor states. This regulation involves two neuropeptides: NLP-12 from DVA enhances undulation body curvature, while NLP-18 from ASI amplifies Ω-turn head curvature. Moreover, synthetic NLP-12 and NLP-18 peptides elicit CKR-1-dependent currents in Xenopus oocytes and Ca2+ transients in SMD neurons. Notably, CKR-1 shows higher sensitivity to NLP-18 compared to NLP-12. In situ patch-clamp recordings reveal CKR-1, NLP-12, and NLP-18 are not essential for neurotransmission at C. elegans neuromuscular junction, suggesting that SMD independently regulates head and body bending. Our studies illustrate that a single motoneuron SMD utilizes a cholecystokinin receptor CKR-1 to integrate two motor states.

Abstract Great effort has been made recently to investigate the phase transitions in two-dimensional (2D) magnets while leaving subtle quantification unsolved. Here, we demonstrate the thermal-activated escape in 2D Fe3GeTe2 ferromagnets near the critical point with a quantum magnetometry based on nitrogen-vacancy centers. We observe random switching between the two spin states with auto-correlation time described by the Arrhenius law, where a change of temperature by 0.8 K induces a change of lifetime by three orders of magnitude. Moreover, a large energy difference between the two spin states about 51.3 meV is achieved by a weak out-of-plane magnetic field of 1 G, yielding occupation probability described by Boltzmann’s law. Using these data, we identify all the parameters in the Ginzburg-Landau model. This work provides quantitative description of the phase transition in 2D magnets, which paves the way for investigating the critical fluctuation and even non-equilibrium phase transitions in these 2D materials.

Abstract History courses are an essential part of a national education. The application of traditional courseware's media forms in education still requires further development and refinement. Herein, we report on a history courseware mode that integrates various historical teaching media, including 360-degree VR, paintings, maps, infographics, text, audio, and videos, based on the SCORM standard. These media elements are used to provide learners with a multimodal learning experience in history courses. We monitor the learning effects using EEG and questionnaires. The results show a significant improvement in our multimodal courseware technology compared to traditional courseware.

Background: Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) has been demonstrated to be effective in treating patients with virus-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, whether the management of ECMO is different in treating H1N1 influenza and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-associated ARDS patients remains unknown. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. We included 12 VV-ECMO-supported COVID-19 patients admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital, and Wuhan Union Hospital West Campus between January 23 and March 31, 2020. We retrospectively included VV-ECMO-supported patients with COVID-19 and H1N1 influenza-associated ARDS. Clinical characteristics, respiratory mechanics including plateau pressure, driving pressure, mechanical power, ventilatory ratio (VR) and lung compliance, and outcomes were compared. Results: Data from 25 patients with COVID-19 (n=12) and H1N1 (n=13) associated ARDS who had received ECMO support were analyzed. COVID-19 patients were older than H1N1 influenza patients (P=0.004). Abstract Lead selenide (PbSe) colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are suitable for the development of the next-generation of photovoltaics (PVs) because of efficient multiple-exciton generation and strong charge coupling ability. To date, the reported high-efficient PbSe CQD PVs use spin-coated zinc oxide (ZnO) as the electron transport layer (ETL). However, it is found that the surface defects of ZnO present a difficulty in completion of passivation, and this impedes the continuous progress of devices. To address this disadvantage, fluoride (F) anions are employed for the surface passivation of ZnO through a chemical bath deposition method (CBD). The F-passivated ZnO ETL possesses decreased densities of oxygen vacancy and a favorable band alignment. Benefiting from these improvements, PbSe CQD PVs report an efficiency of 10.04%, comparatively 9.4% higher than that of devices using sol-gel (SG) ZnO as ETL. We are optimistic that this interface passivation strategy has great potential in the development of solution-processed CQD optoelectronic devices. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background Two studies were designed to determine standard ileal crude protein (CP) and amino acid (AA) digestibility of soybean meal (SBM) from different origins fed to non-pregnant and pregnant sows. Seven solvent-extracted SBMs from soybeans produced in the USA, Brazil, and China were selected. In Exp. 1, eight different diets were created: a nitrogen (N)-free diet and 7 experimental diets containing SBM from different origins as the only N source. Eight non-pregnant, multiparous sows were arranged in an 8 × 8 Latin square design (8 periods and 8 diets). In Exp. 2, the diet formula was the same as in Exp. 1. Eight gestating sows (parity 3) were assigned to 4 different diets in a replicated 4 × 3 Youden square design (three periods and four diets) in mid-gestation and again in late-gestation stages. Results When fed to non-pregnant and late-gestating sows, the standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of CP and most AAs from different SBM were not significantly different (P > 0.05). The integration of terrestrial- and satellite-based quantum key distribution (QKD) experiments has markedly advanced global-scale quantum networks, showcasing the growing maturity of quantum technologies. Notably, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as relay nodes has emerged as a promising method to overcome the inherent limitations of fiber-based and low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connections. This paper introduces a protocol for measurement-device-independent QKD (MDI-QKD) using photon orbital angular momentum (OAM) encoding, with UAVs as relay platforms. Leveraging UAV mobility, the protocol establishes a secure and efficient link, mitigating threats from untrusted UAVs. Photon OAM encoding addresses reference frame alignment issues exacerbated by UAV jitter. A comprehensive analysis of atmospheric turbulence, state-dependent diffraction (SDD), weather visibility, and pointing errors on free-space OAM-state transmission systems was conducted. This analysis elucidates the relationship between the key generation rate and propagation distance for the proposed protocol. Results indicate that considering SDD significantly decreases the key rate, halving previous data results. Furthermore, the study identifies a maximum channel loss capacity of 26 dB for the UAV relay platform. This result is pivotal in setting realistic parameters for the deployment of UAV-based quantum communications and lays the foundation for practical implementation strategies in the field.

Abstract Mineral preservation and microbial residue production are vital for the accumulation of mineral‐associated organic carbon (MAOC) in soils. However, their relative importance and interactive effects remain unclear. Here MAOC content and composition are analyzed in tandem with soil mineral and microbial attributes along a weathering gradient on a volcanic soil sequence. We find that MAOC content increases with increasing mineral weathering states, accompanied by increasing microbial contribution to MAOC. Mineral attributes rather than microbial physiological traits are strongly related to MAOC contents, suggesting that weathering‐enhanced mineral preservation capacity overrides microbial residue production in governing MAOC accumulation by increasing reactive minerals. Furthermore, mineral attributes have a strong interactive effect with microbial traits on MAOC accumulation and composition, likely related to increasing fungal abundance in the microbial community with increasing weathering. These findings highlight that mineral weathering may effectively boost persistent SOC in synergy with microbial conversion in the long term.
