Ethylene glycol is the main component of antifreeze, due to its special sweetness, it is easy to cause misuse. In this paper, the clinical data of 4 cases of acute ethylene glycol poisoning admitted to Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital from August 2016 to August 2021 were retrospectively analyzed to explore the clinical characteristics of acute ethylene glycol poisoning cases. Early and accurate assessment of the disease and early hemodialysis treatment is the key to cure acute ethylene glycol poisoning.乙二醇作为防冻剂等的主要成分，由于其特殊的甜味，易引起误服。本文通过分析2016年8月至2021年8月北京朝阳医院收治的4例急性乙二醇中毒病例的临床资料，探讨急性乙二醇中毒病例的临床特征。尽早准确评估病情，早期血液透析治疗是救治急性乙二醇中毒的关键。.

Acute methanol poisoning harms the optic nerve and central nervous system, can cause irreversible damage, even coma or death in severe cases. This article reported four cases of methanol poisoning. 3 patients mistakenly ingested industrial alcohol containing methanol, the most serious patient suffered from coma, vision loss and other symptoms, the blood methanol concentration was 869.3 μg/ml. Another patient was poisoning caused by inhalation of methanol, with symptoms such as total blindness in the right eye and decreased visual acuity in the left eye. After active supportive treatment, 2 patients had partial recovery of visual acuity, and 2 patients had no sequelae. This article discussed the clinical features, treatment and prognosis of optic nerve damage caused by methanol poisoning, in order to raise awareness of this disease.急性甲醇中毒危害视神经及中枢神经系统，可造成不可逆性损伤，严重者伴昏迷、甚至死亡。本文报道4例甲醇中毒患者。其中，3名患者误服含甲醇的工业酒精，较重的一名患者出现昏迷、视力下降等症状，毒物检测提示血甲醇浓度为869.3 μg/ml；1名患者为吸入性甲醇中毒，出现右眼全盲、左眼视力下降等症状。经过积极对症支持治疗，2例患者视力部分恢复，2例患者无后遗症。本文讨论了甲醇中毒致神经病变的临床特征和治疗预后，以提高对此病的认识。.

The case of oral hydrochloric acid poisoning is rare in clinic, and it is easy to be misdiagnosed when the poison is not clear. The clinical data of 1 case of oral hydrochloric acid poisoning successfully treated was retrospectively analyzed to provide reference for diagnosis and treatment of similar clinical cases.口服盐酸中毒的病例临床少见，在毒物不明确的情况下容易误诊。本文对成功救治的1例口服盐酸中毒患者的临床资料进行回顾性分析，为临床类似病例提供诊治参考。.

Traditionally, vascular interventions have been performed through the femoral artery.The purpose of this study was to evaluate risk factors affecting access-site complications in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma or peripheral arterial disease in lower extremity who underwent vascular intervention by accessing the common femoral artery (CFA).From December 2015 to November 2018, 287 patients underwent transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) or peripheral vascular intervention with ultrasound (US)-guided CFA access. Standard 18-gauge (G) access was used in 127 patients and Micropuncture® 21-G needles in 160 patients. Most access sites were managed with vascular closure devices and several were managed with manual compression. Within 24 hours after the procedure, all patients underwent US to evaluate the puncture site.Access-site complications occurred in 55 of 287 patients: 34 hematomas (11.9%), 20 pseudoaneurysms (7.0%), and 1 dissection (0.4%). In the crude model, risk factors related to access-site complications were the usage of 18-G needles (OR, 2.18; 95% CI, 1.17-4.07; P = 0.014), smoking (OR, 2.23; 95% CI, 1.16-4.27; P = 0.016), and approach route (OR, 3.23; 95% CI, 1.33-7.82; P = 0.009). Needle size (OR, 2.13; 95% CI, 1.10-4.12; P = 0.025) was the only factor associated with access-site complications in the adjusted model.Needle profile was the only factor associated with access-site complications in this study. Therefore, a needle with a smaller profile than an 18-G needle will reduce the incidence of complications at the access site.

Cytosine methylation (C meth) is a ubiquitous regulator of gene transcription. The maize gene ZmGRP3 is a notable marker for root initiation, but how its root-specific transcription is regulated is not understood. Here, bisulfite sequencing and a C meth sensitive Southern blot assay were used to show that the transcription of ZmGRP3 was promoted by a reduction in the extent of C meth both in its promoter and in the vicinity of its translation start site. The result was validated by revealing the effect of 5-aza-2-deoxycytidine on the C meth status in various seedling organs. An analysis of methylation patterns indicates that the C meth of cytosine-guanine dinucleotides was the most important determinant of transcription, however, the C meth of CHG or CHH trinucleotides had little influence.

To explore the effects of remote ischemic preconditioning on myocardial injury and prognosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute coronary syndrome.The study was a single center, prospective, randomized, controlled study. A total of 184 patients with unstable angina undergoing elective PCI were randomly assigned to remote ischemic preconditioning group (induced by four times of 5-min inflations of a blood pressure cuff to 200 mmHg around the upper arm, followed by 5-min intervals of reperfusion at 1 h before PCI therapy) or control group (an uninflated cuff around the arm). Successful completion of the PCI eventually included 130 cases of patients, including 72 cases in the remote ischemic preconditioning group and 58 cases in the control group. CK-MB, cTnI, sICAM-1, sVCAM-1 and Hs-CRP levels were measured at 6 am. of the day operating PCI and at 24 h after PCI in the two groups. Major adverse cardiac events were recorded of two groups of patients in the postoperative 6 months. (MACE, including recurrence of angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and death).There were no statistically significant differences in baseline indicators between the 2 groups. CK - MB, cTnI, sICAM-1, sVCAM-1 and Hs-CRP levels in patients with remote ischemic preconditioning group were significantly lower than those form the control group after PCI (p0.05), but there were no significant differences between the occurrence of MACE in the postoperative 6 months (p0.05).Remote ischemic preconditioning can reduce PCI related myocardial injury and protect vascular endothelial function.

Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the most important nosocomial pathogens, and its multiple antibiotic resistance has emerged as an obstacle in the treatment of these infections worldwide. Aims: To identify risk factors of mortality for A. baumannii bacteraemia. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 72 patients with significant A. baumannii bacteraemia was conducted to evaluate risk factors for mortality. Results: The median age of the 72 enrolled patients was 48 years, 96% of the cases were hospital-acquired, and the bacteraemia-related mortality rate was 29% (21 of 72 patients). Univariate analysis revealed that the risk factors for mortality included: an elevated acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE II) score, receipt of in vitro ineffective definitive antimicrobial therapy, in vitro A. baumannii resistance to cefoperazone/ sulbactam, neutropenia, and presentation with septic shock. Multivariate analysis reveals that the independent risk factors for mortality are neutropenia and elevated APACHE II scores. Conclusion: Risk factors such as neutropenia and elevated APACHE II scores are found to be associated with higher mortality rates of A. baumannii bacteraemia. Further study is necessary for the determination of optimal strategies for both the prevention and treatment of these infections. (Intern Med J 2005; 35: 599–603)

In the past decades, it has become clear that superoxide radical (O2·−) can be generated from photosystem II (PSII) during photosynthesis. Depending on the extent of its accumulation, O2·− plays an important role in plant physiology and pathology. The photoinhibition/repair cycle is a typical process in PSII which is mainly responsible for the survival of plants under the photoinihibition condition. It is therefore of significant importance to determine O2·− production in this cycle, and then explore how O2·− is controlled by PSII within a normal physiological level. With this in mind, we herein investigate the variation of the O2·− levels in PSII under Mn-depleted and photoactivated conditions mimicking the photoinhibition/repair cycle in vitro. The effect of intrinsic SOD-like component on the O2·− levels was also studied. Results show that PSII has the ability to regulate the O2·− levels in these two processes by simultaneously modulating the O2·− generation activity and intrinsic SOD-like activity. This finding could shed new lights on the photoprotective property of PSII against O2·− and other reactive oxygen species.

By introducing ZrO2 (4Y) powder into the thermit, Al2O3/ZrO2 (4Y) composite ceramics were prepared through combustion synthesis under high gravity, and the correlations of composition, microstructures and mechanical properties of composite ceramics were investigated. The results of XRD, SEM and EDS showed that Al2O3/33%ZrO2 (4Y) were composed of random-orientated rod-shaped colonies consisting of a triangular dispersion of orderly submicron-nanometer t-ZrO2 fibers, surrounded by inter-colony regions consisting of spherically-shaped micronmeter t-ZrO2 grains; Al2O3/45%ZrO2 (4Y) were comprised of spherically-shaped micron-meter t-ZrO2 grains, surround by irregularly-shaped α-Al2O3 grains and a few colonies. Compared to the directionally solidified Al2O3/ZrO2 (Y2O3), the increase in hardness and flexural strength of Al2O3/33%ZrO2 (4Y) in the experiment was due to high densification, small-size defect and high fracture toughness induced by compressive residual stress toughening and transformation toughening mechanisms; meanwhile, in despite of the moderate decrease in hardness, high flexural strength of Al2O3/45%ZrO2 (4Y) was considered to be a result of small-size defect in spherically-shaped micronmeter t-ZrO2 grain matrix and high fracture toughness induced by transformation toughening and micro-crack toughening mechanisms.

The one-stage total ear reconstruction (auricular reconstruction and tympanoplasty) has a number of merits. 1. Satisfactory esthetic results obtained in one operation. 2. The "super thin" skin flap is elevated on a plane that excludes hair follicles from the flap, so the hair-bearing areas of the scalp can be readily incorporated as part of the ear reconstruction. 3. The reconstructed ear has adequate blood supply and protective sensation. 4. The surgeon may choose to carry out a tympanoplasty and obtain restoration of auditory function or may choose to carry out a pseudomeatus procedure and reduce the operating time. We feel that the "super thin" skin flap and the simultaneous tympanoplasty are valuable supplements to ear reconstruction. The functional results of the tympanoplasty must be considered only a partial success at this time; long-term evaluation as well as technologic improvements are needed.

A series of 18 patients of transaxillary incision augmentation mammoplasties has been presented. The axillary incision was 3.5 to 4 cm long and healed inconspicuously. The silicon gel implants were put in under pectoral major muscle. Follow-up time was six months to 4 1/2 years. The results of all patients were satisfactory. All patients were graded into Baker's I. No capsular contraction was developed. This obvious difference between Chinese women and western women of capsular contraction after augmentation mammoplasties may be due to the difference of human race. But a future research should be designed and performed.
