Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0 $$ , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ - K L 0 $$ {K}_L^0 $$ asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},{K}_{S,L}^0X\right)=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)-\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)} $$ in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0\right)=-0.025\pm 0.031 $$ , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)=-0.027\pm 0.048 $$ and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.015\pm 0.046 $$ . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract: Abstract With a sample of (10087 ± 44) × 106 J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays η′ → π + π − l + l − (l = e, μ) via the process J/ψ → γη′. The branching fractions are measured to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − e + e − ) = (2.45 ± 0.02(stat.) ± 0.08(syst.)) × 10 −3 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − μ + μ − ) = (2.16 ± 0.12(stat.) ± 0.06(syst.)) × 10 −5, and the ratio is B η ′ → π + π − e + e − B η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 113.4 ± 0.9 stat . ± 3.7 syst . $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}=113.4\pm 0.9\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 3.7\left(\textrm{syst}.\right) $$ . In addition, by combining the η′ → π + π − e + e − and η′ → π + π − μ + μ − decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be b η′ = 1.30 ± 0.19 (GeV/c 2) −2, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the π + π − and l + l − decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the CP-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be A CP η ′ → π + π − e + e − = − 0.21 ± 0.73 stat . ± 0.01 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)=\left(-0.21\pm 0.73\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ and A CP η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 0.62 ± 4.71 stat . ± 0.08 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=\left(0.62\pm 4.71\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.08\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ , implying that no evidence of CP-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay η′ → π + π − a, a → e + e − , and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of 0 − 500 MeV/c 2.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

Abstract: Abstract Based on e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis is performed for the process e + e − → K S 0 K L 0 $$ {K}_S^0{K}_L^0 $$ π 0. The results allow the Born cross sections of the process e + e − → K S 0 K L 0 $$ {K}_S^0{K}_L^0 $$ π 0, as well as its subprocesses e + e − → K ∗(892)0 K ¯ $$ \overline{K} $$ 0 and K 2 ∗ $$ {K}_2^{\ast } $$ (1430)0 K ¯ $$ \overline{K} $$ 0 to be measured. The Born cross sections for e + e − → K S 0 K L 0 $$ {K}_S^0{K}_L^0 $$ π 0 are consistent with previous measurements by BaBar, but with substantially improved precision. The Born cross section lineshape of the process e + e − K ∗(892)0 K ¯ $$ \overline{K} $$ 0 is consistent with a vector meson state around 2.2 GeV with a significance of 3.2σ. A Breit-Wigner fit determines its mass as M Y = (2164.7 ± 9.1 ± 3.1) MeV/c 2 and its width as Γ Y = (32.4 ± 21.0 ± 1.8) MeV.

10. UV-curable nanocasting technique to prepare bioinspired superhydrophobic organic-inorganic composite anticorrosion coatings

Abstract: A UV-curing technique was used to develop advanced anticorrosive coatings made of a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/silica composite (PSC) with bioinspired Xanthosoma sagittifolium leaf-like superhydrophobic surfaces. First of all, a transparent soft template with negative patterns of xanthosoma sagittifolium leaf can be fabricated by thermally curing the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) pre-polymer in molds at 60°C for 4 h, followed by detaching PDMS template from the surface of natural leaf. PSC coatings with biomimetic structures can be prepared by performing the UV-radiation process upon casting UV-curable precursor with photo-initiator onto cold-rolled steel (CRS) electrode under PDMS template. Subsequently, UV-radiation process was carried out by using light source with light intensity of 100 mW/cm2 with exposing wavelength of 365 nm. Surface morphologies of the as-synthesized hydrophobic PMMA (HP) and superhydrophobic PSC (SPSC) coatings showed a large number of micro-scaled mastoids, each decorated with many nano-scaled wrinkles that were systematically investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The contact angles of water droplets on the sample surfaces can be increased from ~81 and 103° on PMMA and PSC surfaces to ~148 and 163° on HP and SPSC surfaces, respectively. The SPSC coating was found to provide an advanced corrosion protection effect on CRS electrodes compared to that of neat PMMA, PSC, and HP coatings based on a series of electrochemical corrosion measurements in 3.5 wt% NaCl electrolyte. Enhanced corrosion protection of SPSC coatings on CRS electrodes can be illustrated by that the silica nanoparticles on the small papillary hills of the bioinspired structure of the surface further increased the surface roughness, making the surface exhibit superior superhydrophobic, and thus leading to much better anticorrosion performance.

Abstract: We present comparative studies on the effect of varying the carboxylic-group content of thermally reduced graphene oxides (TRGs) on the anticorrosive properties of as-prepared poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/TRG composite (PTC) coatings. TRGs were formed from graphene oxide (GO) by thermal exfoliation. The as-prepared TRGs were then characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Subsequently, the PTC materials were prepared via a UV-curing process and then characterized using FTIR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). PTC coatings containing TRGs with a higher carboxylic-group content exhibited better corrosion protection of a cold-rolled steel electrode that those with a lower carboxylic-group content. This is because the well-dispersed TRG with a higher carboxylic-group content embedded in the PMMA matrix effectively enhances the oxygen barrier properties of the PTC. This conclusion was supported by gas permeability analysis.

Abstract: Charge density wave (CDW) correlations are prevalent in all copper-oxide superconductors. While CDWs in conventional metals are driven by coupling between lattice vibrations and electrons, the role of the electron-phonon coupling (EPC) in cuprate CDWs is strongly debated. Using Cu L_{3} edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, we study the CDW and Cu-O bond-stretching phonons in the stripe-ordered cuprate La_{1.8-x}Eu_{0.2}Sr_{x}CuO_{4+δ}. We investigate the interplay between charge order and EPC as a function of doping and temperature and find that the EPC is enhanced in a narrow momentum region around the CDW ordering vector. By detuning the incident photon energy from the absorption resonance, we extract an EPC matrix element at the CDW ordering vector of M≃0.36 eV, which decreases to M≃0.30 eV at high temperature in the absence of the CDW. Our results suggest a feedback mechanism in which the CDW enhances the EPC which, in turn, further stabilizes the CDW.

Abstract: Combined ring rolling (CRR) is a new method for manufacturing rings which feature thick walls, deep grooves and small bores. Compared with general ring rolling, two driven rolls with fixed axes are added to control the circumferential metal flow and form the deep groove. Rolling force and energy, strain distribution uniformity, and temperature distribution uniformity are very important to the process design and forming quality of rings, which are sensitive to rolling parameters, such as motions of the driving roll, temperature and friction. In this paper, the reasonable ranges of feed parameters were determined based on stable rolling conditions. A reliable 3D coupled thermomechanical finite element model was then established using the dynamic explicit code ABAQUS/Explicit and the effects of rolling parameters investigated, including rotational velocity of driving roll n, the feed velocity of the driving roll v, initial temperature of workpiece and friction among the rolls and the ring. Abstract: Sixty-two DNA sequences for the coding regions of omega-secalin (ω-secalin) genes have been characterized from rye (Secale cereale L.), hexaploid and octoploid triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack), and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) 1BL/1RS translocation line. Only 19 out of the 62 ω-secalin gene sequences were full-length open reading frames (ORFs), which can be expressed into functional proteins. The other 43 DNA sequences were pseudogenes, as their ORFs were interrupted by one or a few stop codons or frameshift mutations. The 19 ω-secalin genes have a typical primary structure, which is different from wheat gliadins. There was no cysteine residue in ω-secalin proteins, and the potential celiac disease (CD) toxic epitope (PQQP) was identified to appear frequently in the repetitive domains. The ω-secalin genes from various cereal species shared high homology in their gene sequences. The ω-secalin gene family has involved fewer variations after the integration of the rye R chromosome or whole genome into the wheat or triticale genome. The higher Ka/Ks ratio (i.e. non-synonymous to synonymous substitutions per site) in ω-secalin pseudogenes than in ω-secalin ORFs indicate that the pseudogenes may be subject to a reduced selection pressure. Based on the conserved sequences of ω-secalin genes, it will be possible to manipulate the expression of this gene family in rye, triticale, or wheat 1BL/1RS translocation lines, to reduce its negative effects on grain quality.

Abstract: This study uses micromachining techniques to fabricate a piezoelectrically actuated nebulizer with an easily assembled structure. The experimental measurement and numerical simulation have been performed to gain the insight of atomized droplet behavior and fluidic mechanics for the developed devices. It is expected that a better understanding of these physical insights can lead to various potential applications. Based on the results obtained from a series of investigations, this study has found the optimal operating conditions for the proposed nebulizer. Various test fluids with different viscosities and surface tensions are considered, including water, dilute alcohol, oil, and a honey-like fluid. A spray stability analysis is performed in which the operating voltage and frequency of the piezoelectric actuator in the nebulizer are varied and the corresponding changes in the ejected particle size, flow rate and ejection distance examined. Air trapped within the nebulizer reservoir adversely affects the injection performance. Hence, the effect of the operating parameters on the volume of air ingested into the reservoir during the nebulizer operation is investigated and discussed.

Abstract: This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) and protein-free calf blood extract on corneal wound healing and neovascularization.An rabbit central corneal wound and neovascularization model was established in rabbits. One eye of each group was chosen randomly for topical administration of protein-free calf blood extract, rhEGF, or NS (physiological saline), and variability in the area of corneal epithelial wound healing and neovascularization was observed.On days 1 and 2, the healing rate of corneal epithelium was various among the protein-free calf blood extract group, rhEGF group and NS group (F=6.475, p=0.012). The healing rate of corneal epithelium in the rhEGF group was better than the protein-free calf blood extract group (p=0.004) and NS group (p=0.041) on day 1. The corneal neovascularization area in the protein-free calf blood extract group was less than that of rhEGF group (p=0.04) and NS group (p=0.008) on day 18.rhEGF had better promotive effect on corneal epithelial wound healing than the protein-free calf blood extract in the advanced phase (within 2 days). Both rhEGF and protein-free calf blood extract were not found to promote.

Abstract: Dielectrostriction is a rheo-dielectric phenomenon, which reflects the variation of dielectric properties of a material with deformation. It is a fundamental property of any dielectric material, including polymers and many foods. A linear relationship has been found between the change in the dielectric constants and stresses for polymers and a chocolate spread, which is named the stress-dielectric rule. This study explored the dielectrostriction responses in three types of dark chocolate with different compositions in an oscillatory shear flow. The results revealed that the stress-dielectric rule holds well for all three types of chocolate, and the dielectrostricive response is much more sensitive than the rheological response to changes in the chocolate composition. These findings suggested that dielectrostriction measurements are a novel approach for rheological property studies, and can be developed into a powerful tool for chocolate process monitoring.

Abstract: In bullfrog sympathetic ganglia, the ryanodine-sensitive Ca2+ store and mitochondria modulate [Ca2+] within nerve terminals. We used caffeine (10 mM) and carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (10 microM) to assess how these Ca2+ stores affect release of a neuropeptide, luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone, from these nerve terminals. Release of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone was evoked by electrical stimulation to presynaptic nerves and was monitored as a late slow excitatory postsynaptic potential in ganglionic neurons. Caffeine increased release of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone similarly whether the release was evoked by 4 or 20 Hz stimulations (by 2.7 +/- 1.1- and 3.2 +/- 0.9-fold, mean +/- S.E.M., n = 27, respectively). Carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone augmented release of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone evoked by 4 Hz stimulation much more strongly (by 11.8 +/- 1.8-fold) than it increased the release evoked by 20 Hz stimulation (by 3.6 +/- 1.3-fold, n = 25). We detected spontaneous release of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone as a slow hyperpolarization in response to a brief application of an antagonist to the receptors for luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone in 65% (34 of 52) and 39% (11 of 28) of the ganglionic B and C neurons, respectively. Caffeine increased spontaneous release of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone by 2.3 +/- 0.7-fold (n = 6) whereas carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone increased this release by 4.27- and 1.76-fold (n = 2). Facilitation of Ca2+ release from the intracellular store by caffeine and inhibition of mitochondrial Ca2+ removal by carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone increased spontaneous as well as evoked release of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone. Moreover, caffeine increments of evoked release did not depend on the firing frequency of the nerve whereas carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone augmentations of evoked release strongly depended on the firing frequency.

Abstract: Intestinal inflammation is associated with various pathological diseases, such as gastritis from Helicobacter pylori infection, Crohn's and colitis in inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal cancer. Thus, treatment with anti-inflammatory substances in these inflammation-associated diseases is critical. Increasingly compelling evidence indicates that glutamine is an anti-inflammatory compound candidate because it can influence the long-term outcome of the inflammatory diseases with in a low-risk way. However, before recommending its use in clinical practice, it is important to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which glutamine exerts its roles in modulating intestinal inflammation. In this study, we review the current knowledge on the detailed regulation pathway used by glutamine in its proinflammatory regulation, with a special emphasis on intestinal inflammation. These regulation pathways include nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), phosphoinositide-3-kinases (PI3K)/PI3K-protein kinase B (Akt), activating protein-1 (AP-1), nitric oxide synthases (NOS)-nitric oxide (NO), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-Γ (PPARγ), heat shock factor-1 (HSF-1)- heat shock proteins (HSP) and glutathione (GSH) - reactive oxygen species (ROS). Although some regulatory pathways, such as PI3K/PI3K-Akt, GSH-ROS and AP-1, need to be further investigated, this review provides useful information to utilize glutamine as an immunonutritional or pharmaconutritional drug, not only for inflammation-associated diseases in the intestine, but also possibly for other inflammatory-associated diseases, i.e. arthritis, asthma, type 2 diabetes, etc.

Abstract: A relationship of the vertical field Bz required to maintain horizontal stability and the ratio of the central line-averaged density to the plasma current is deduced and is proved to be linear through the previous statistical discharge data on the J-TEXT tokamak. According to this, a plasma horizontal position control system based on feedforward density compensation (FDC) is developed and tested on the machine for different ramping rates of density variation. Due to the feedforward density signal, the controller with FDC could suppress the disturbance of the horizontal displacement owing to the density variation during the flat-top phase moving more quickly when compared with the case with the traditional proportional–integral–derivative controller, which is a feedback controller. There is a trade-off between the suppression of the perturbation and the oscillation of the horizontal displacement for density variation, which should be taken into account in real routine discharge.

Abstract: In the presynaptic nerve terminals of the bullfrog sympathetic ganglia, repetitive nerve firing evokes [Ca2+] transients that decay monotonically. An algorithm based on an eigenfunction expansion method was used for fitting these [Ca2+] decay records. The data were fitted by a linear combination of two to four exponential functions. A mathematical model with three intraterminal membrane-bound compartments was developed to describe the observed Ca2+ decay. The model predicts that the number of exponential functions, n, contained in the decay data corresponds to n-1 intraterminal Ca2+ stores that release Ca2+ during the decay. Moreover, when a store stops releasing or starts to release Ca2+, the decay data should be fitted by functions that contain one less exponential component for the former and one more for the latter than do the fitting functions for control data. Because of the current lack of a parameter by which quantitative comparisons can be made between two decay processes when at least one of them contained more than one exponential components, we defined a parameter, the overall rate (OR) of decay, as the trace of the coefficient matrix of the differential equation systems of our model. We used the mathematical properties of the model and of the OR to interpret effects of ryanodine and of a mitochondria uncoupler on Ca2+ decay. The results of the analysis were consistent with the ryanodine-sensitive store, mitochondria, and another, yet unidentified store release Ca2+ into the cytosol of the presynaptic nerve terminals during Ca2+ decay. Our model also predicts that mitochondrial Ca2+ buffering accounted for more than 86% of all the flux rates across various membranes combined and that there are type 3 and type 1 and/or type 2 ryanodine receptors in these terminals.

Abstract: ATP-sensitive potassium (K(ATP)) channel openers, exerting a potent vasodilatory action, are useful in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders; e.g., hypertension and angina pectoris. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of MJ-355 (6-cyano-3,4-trans-3,4-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-2H-3-hydroxy-4-[2-oxo-5S-(1- ethoxyethoxymethyl)-1-pyrrolidinyl]-1-benzopyran), a newly synthesized K(ATP) channel opener, on hemodynamics in spontaneously hypertensive rats and on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in a rat model of 45 min left coronary artery occlusion followed by 1-h reperfusion. Intravascular injection of MJ-355 (0.005, 0.05 and 0.1 mg/kg) produced a dose-related reduction in mean arterial blood pressure. The depressor effect started 10-15 min after the administration and persisted for more than 3 h and was not accompanied by a reflex tachycardia. In myocardial ischemia, pretreatment of MJ-355 (0.02 mg/kg) significantly reduced the total number of ventricular premature contractions and ventricular tachycardia, total duration of ventricular fibrillation and the mortality. Additionally, a significant reduction in infarct size was noted in all of the MJ-355-treated groups. The hemodynamic and cardioprotective effects of MJ-355 were virtually abolished by pretreating the rats with glibenclamide (4 mg/kg, i.v. bolus), a selective K(ATP) channel blocker. In conclusion, MJ-355, through the activation of K(ATP) channels, exhibited antihypertensive and cardioprotective effects. It is suggested that MJ-355 should be useful in the treatment of hypertension and/or acute myocardial infarction.

Abstract: To determine whether there are anatomical correlates for intraterminal Ca2+ stores to regulate exocytosis of dense-cored vesicles (DCVs) and whether these stores can modulate exocytosis of synaptic vesicles, we studied the spatial distributions of DCVs, smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER), and mitochondria in 19 serially reconstructed nerve terminals in bullfrog sympathetic ganglia. On average, each bouton had three active zones, 214 DCVs, 26 SER fragments (SERFs), and eight mitochondria. DCVs, SERFs and mitochondria were located, on average, 690, 624, and 526 nm, respectively, away from active zones. Virtually no DCVs were within "docking" (i.e.,or = 50 nm) distances of the active zones. Thus, it is unlikely that DCV exocytosis occurs at active zones via mechanisms similar to those for exocytosis of synaptic vesicles. Because there were virtually no SERFs or mitochondria within 50 nm of any active zone, Ca2+ modulation by these organelles is unlikely to affect ACh release evoked by a single action potential. In contrast, 30% of DCVs and 40% of SERFs were located within 50 nm of the nonspecialized regions of the plasma membrane. Because each bouton had at least one SERF within 50 nm of the plasma membrane and most of these SERFs had DCVs, but not mitochondria, near them, it is possible for Ca2+ release from the SER to provide the Ca2+ necessary for DCV exocytosis. The fact that 60% of the mitochondria had some part within 50 nm of the plasma membrane means that it is possible for mitochondrial Ca2+ buffering to affect DCV exocytosis.

Abstract: The unclear DNA content was measured with flow cytometry (FCM) in 167 specimens of normal nasopharyngeal epithelium (NE), adjacent tissue to carcinoma (ATC) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). All 20 patients with NE showed diploid, whereas 38 (38%) of 101 patients with NPC, 7 (58%) of 12 patients with recurrent NPC, 6 (30%) of 20 patients with ATC and 2 (33%) of 6 patients with NE, positive to EBVCA-IgA test, showed nondiploid. In addition, cellular proliferation index (PI) of diploid NPC and diploid ATC, though differed nonsignificantly, was significantly increased as compared with that of NE (P0.01). The rate of cervical metastasis in nondiploid NPC was significantly higher than that in diploid NPC (P0.025).

Abstract: To study the Ca2+ dependency of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) release in the bullfrog sympathetic ganglia, a method was developed to fill the preganglionic nerve terminal boutons with membrane-impermeant fura-2. We found that as stimulation frequency increased from 0.5 to 40 Hz, the peak [Ca2+]i ([Ca2+]p) and the rate of rise in [Ca2+]i increased, the decay of [Ca2+]i transients followed up to three exponentials, and release of LHRH was linearly related to integral of ([Ca2+]i--[Ca2+]t)dt. The threshold level of [Ca2+]i for LHRH release for a given set of boutons on a C cell, [Ca2+]t, was estimated by the [Ca2+]p evoked by 0.5 Hz stimulation that does not induce LHRH release.

39. Association of gut microbiota with acute kidney injury: a two-sample Mendelian randomisation and case-control study.

Abstract: Epidemiologic studies have implicated the gut microbiota in acute kidney injury (AKI), but the causal relationship is unclear. Using Mendelian randomisation, we explored the causal role of gut microbiota in the development of acute kidney injury after excluding confounding and reverse causality. Mendel randomised (MR) study was conducted using data from intestinal microbiota and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) disease of acute kidney injury and the sequencing data of case-control study confirmed this finding. The summary statistics of intestinal microbiota (n = 13,266) conducted by MiBioGen Alliance was taken as the exposure, while the statistics of acute kidney injury obtained from FinnGen Alliance data (2,383 cases and 212,841 controls) were taken as the results. A total of 42 patients were included in this case-control study. Evidence for the protective causal associations of the genus Flavonifractor id.2059 with AKI was found in inverse variance weighting (odds ratio = 0.48 [95% confidence interval, 0.32-0.72]; P = 0.0003). Additionally, a case-control study showed that the relative abundance of the genus Flavonifractor id.2059 ( P = 0.0169) in septic non-AKI patients was higher than that in septic AKI patients. Compared with S-AKI patients who died within 28 days, the relative abundance of the genus Flavonifractor id.2059 in surviving patients was higher ( P = 0.0281). Phylogenetic analysis showed that OTU68 and HQ455040.1334-739 (genus Flavonifractor, Genetic similarity: 100%), as well as OTU2271 and LT598575.1365-770 (genus Pseudoflavonifractor, Genetic similarity: 100%), have closest genetic ties. Correlation analysis showed that the genus Flavonifractor id.2059 was related to the creatinine value (Spearman correlation: -0.379, P = 0.013). The present study demonstrates that the genus Flavonifractor id.2059 is associated with a reduced risk of AKI, revealing potential implications for the prevention and treatment of acute kidney injury.

41. [Clinical phenotyping of severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in children].

Abstract: Objective: To investigate and summarize pediatric patients with severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) presenting with varied clinical and chest imaging features in order to guide the individualized treatment. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. Medical records of clinical, imaging and laboratory data of 505 patients with MPP who were admitted to the Department Ⅱ of Respirology Center, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2016 to October 2023 and met the enrollment criteria were included. They were divided into severe group and non-severe group according to whether lower airway obliterans was developed. The clinical and chest imaging features of the two groups were analyzed. Those severe cases with single lobe ≥2/3 consolidation (lobar consolidation) were further divided into subtype lung-necrosis and subtype non-lung-necrosis based on whether lung necrosis was developed. Comparison on the clinical manifestations, bronchoscopic findings, whole blood C-reactive protein (CRP) and other inflammatory indicators between the two subtypes was performed. Comparisons between two groups were achieved using independent-sample t -test, nonparametric test or chi-square test. Univariate receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed on the indicators such as CRP of the two subtypes. Results: Of the 505 cases, 254 were male and 251 were female. The age of the onset was (8.2±2.9) years. There were 233 severe cases, among whom 206 were with lobar consolidation and 27 with diffuse bronchiolitis. The other 272 belonged to non-severe cases, with patchy, cloudy infiltrations or single lobe <2/3 uneven consolidation or localized bronchiolitis. Of the 206 cases (88.4%) severe cases with lobar consolidation, 88 harbored subtype lung-necrosis and 118 harbored subtype non-lung-necrosis. All 206 cases (100.0%) presented with persistent high fever, among whom 203 cases (98.5%) presented with inflammatory secretion obstruction and plastic bronchitis under bronchoscopy. Of those 88 cases with subtype lung-necrosis, there were 42 cases (47.7%) with dyspnea and 39 cases (44.3%) with moderate to massive amount of pleural effusion. There were 35 cases (39.8%) diagnosed with lung embolism during the disease course, of which other 34 cases (38.6%) were highly suspected. Extensive airway mucosal necrosis was observed in 46 cases (52.3%), and the level of their whole blood CRP was significantly higher than that of subtype non-lung-necrosis (131.5 (91.0, 180.0) vs. 25.5 (12.0, 43.1) mg/L, U =334.00, P <0.001). They were regarded as subtype "lung consolidation-atelectasis-necrosis". Of those 118 cases with subtype non-lung-necrosis, 27 cases (22.9%) presented with dyspnea and none were with moderate to massive amount of pleural effusion. Sixty-five cases (55.1%) presented with plastic bronchitis and localized airway mucosal necrosis was observed in 32 cases (27.1%). They were deemed as subtype "lung consolidation-atelectasis". ROC curve analyses revealed that whole blood CRP of 67.5 mg/L on the 6-10 th day of disease course exhibited a sensitivity of 0.96, a specificity of 0.89, and an area under the curve of 0.97 for distinguishing between these two subtypes among those with lobar consolidation. Conclusions: Pediatric patients with severe MPP present with lobar consolidation or diffuse bronchiolitis on chest imaging. Those with lobar consolidation harbor 2 subtypes as "lung consolidation-atelectasis-necrosis" and "lung consolidation-atelectasis". Whole blood CRP of 67.5 mg/L can be applied as an early discriminating indicator to discriminate between these two subtypes.

Abstract: Objective: To explore the mechanism underlying the protective effect of α2-macroglobulin (A2M) against glucocorticoid-induced femoral head necrosis., Methods: In a human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) model with injuries induced by gradient concentrations of dexamethasone (DEX; 10 -8 -10 -5 mol/L), the protective effects of A2M at 0.05 and 0.1 mg/mL were assessed by examining the changes in cell viability, migration, and capacity of angiogenesis using CCK-8 assay, Transwell and scratch healing assays and angiogenesis assay. The expressions of CD31 and VEGF-A proteins in the treated cells were detected using Western blotting. In BALB/c mouse models of avascular necrosis of the femoral head induced by intramuscular injections of methylprednisolone, the effects of intervention with A2M on femoral trabecular structure, histopathological characteristics, and CD31 expression were examined with Micro-CT, HE staining and immunohistochemical staining., Results: In cultured HUVECs, DEX treatment significantly reduced cell viability, migration and angiogenic ability in a concentration- and time-dependent manner ( P <0.05), and these changes were obviously reversed by treatment with A2M in positive correlation with A2M concentration ( P <0.05). DEX significantly reduced the expression of CD31 and VEGF-A proteins in HUVECs, while treatment with A2M restored CD31 and VEGF-A expressions in the cells ( P <0.05). The mouse models of femoral head necrosis showed obvious trabecular damages in the femoral head, where a large number of empty lacunae and hypertrophic fat cells could be seen and CD31 expression was significantly decreased ( P <0.05). A2M treatment of the mouse models significantly improved trabecular damages, maintained normal bone tissue structures, and increased CD31 expression in the femoral head ( P <0.05)., Conclusion: A2M promotes proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of DEX-treated HUVECs and alleviates methylprednisolone-induced femoral head necrosis by improving microcirculation damages and maintaining microcirculation stability in the femoral head.

44. The incidence of surgical site infections in China.

Abstract: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a common type of healthcare-associated infection. We performed a literature review to demonstrate the incidence of SSIs in mainland China based on studies since 2010. We included 231 eligible studies with ≥30 postoperative patients, comprising 14 providing overall SSI data regardless of surgical sites and 217 reporting SSIs for a specific site. We found that the overall SSI incidence was 2.91% (median; interquartile range: 1.05%, 4.57%) or 3.18% (pooled; 95% confidence interval: 1.85%, 4.51%) and the SSI incidence varied remarkably according to the surgical site between the lowest (median, 1.00%; pooled, 1.69%) in thyroid surgeries and the highest (median, 14.89%; pooled, 12.54%) in colorectal procedures. We uncovered that Enterobacterales and staphylococci were the most common types of micro-organisms associated with SSIs after various abdominal surgeries and cardiac or neurological procedures, respectively. We identified two, nine, and five studies addressing the impact of SSIs on mortality, the length of stay (LOS) in hospital, and additional healthcare-related economic burden, respectively, all of which demonstrated increased mortality, prolonged LOS, and elevated medical costs associated with SSIs among affected patients. Our findings illustrate that SSIs remain a relatively common, serious threat to patient safety in China, requiring more action. To tackle SSIs, we propose to establish a nationwide network for SSI surveillance using unified criteria with the aid of informatic techniques and to tailor and implement countermeasures based on local data and observation. 46. Total iron binding capacity: an independent predictor of prognosis for pulmonary arterial hypertension in systemic lupus erythematosus.

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the role of parameters of iron metabolism in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)., Method: This was a prospective observational study recruiting patients diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (SLE-PAH). Patients with other factors that might lead to PAH were excluded from the study. All patients were assessed for PAH every 1-3 months and were followed up for 6 months. The primary outcome was considered improved if the grade of risk stratification declined at the endpoint; otherwise, it was considered unimproved., Results: In total, 29 patients with SLE-PAH were included in this study. The mean of serum ferritin was higher than normal, and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) decreased in 48% of patients. Correlation analyses showed that serum iron (SI) was negatively correlated with World Health Organization functional class (WHO-FC) (r = -0.409, p = 0.028), and positively correlated with Six-Minute Walk Test distance (6MWD) (r = 0.427, p = 0.021) and tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) (r = 0.388, p = 0.037). Primary outcomes improved in 12 patients at the endpoint, and univariate logistic regression analyses indicated that TIBC was associated with improved primary outcomes in patients with SLE-PAH (odds ratio 12.00, 95% confidence interval 1.90-75.72)., Conclusion: SI was negatively correlated with WHO-FC, and positively correlated with 6MWD and TAPSE. Furthermore, TIBC was associated with improved outcomes of patients with SLE-PAH, which could be an independent predictor of prognosis. Further research is needed to verify the findings.

49. Impacts of pregnancy and menopause on COVID-19 severity: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 4.6 million women.

Abstract: Background: Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is still a public health emergency of international concern. However, whether pregnancy and menopause impact the severity of COVID-19 remain unclear., Aim: This study is performed to investigate the truth., Design: Study appraisal and synthesis follows PRISMA guideline. Meta-analysis is performed in random-effects model., Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane database, Central, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO COVID-19 database and WHO-ICTRP are searched until 28 March 2023., Results: In total, 57 studies (4 640 275 COVID-19 women) were analyzed. Pregnant women were at a lower risk of severe COVID-19, intensive care unit (ICU) admission and disease mortality compared to those nonpregnant women with comparable comorbidities. In contrast, pregnant women with more prepregnancy comorbidities were at a higher risk of severe COVID-19, ICU admission and invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). In addition, pregnant women with pregnancy complications had a significantly increased risk of severe COVID-19 and ICU admission. Menopause increased COVID-19 severity, IMV requirement and disease mortality. Hormone replacement therapy inhibited COVID-19 severity in postmenopausal women. Premenopausal and postmenopausal women had a lower chance of severe illness than age-matched men. The impact of pregnancy on COVID-19 severity was significant in Americans and Caucasians, whereas the effect of menopause on COVID-19 severity was only significant in Chinese., Conclusions: Pregnancy and menopause are protective and risk factors for severe COVID-19, respectively. The protective role of pregnancy on COVID-19 is minimal and could be counteracted or masked by prepregnancy or pregnancy comorbidities. Abstract: Aim: To use multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT)-derived tricuspid annulus (TA) measurements to identify predictors for tricuspid regurgitation (TR) reduction after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and to investigate the impact of TR change on prognosis., Materials and Methods: A retrospective, single-centre study was conducted on consecutive patients who underwent TAVR with concomitant baseline mild or more severe TR from April 2012 to April 2022. TA parameters were measured using MDCT., Results: The study comprised 266 patients (mean age 74.2 ± 7.6 years, 147 men) and 45.1% had more than one grade of TR reduction at follow-up. Independent predictors of TR reduction at follow-up were distance between TA centroid and antero-septal commissure (odd ratio [OR] 0.776; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.672-0.896, p=0.001), baseline TR of moderate or worse (OR 4.599; 95% CI: 2.193-9.648, p<0.001), systolic pulmonary artery pressure (OR 1.018; 95% CI: 1.002-1.035, p=0.027), age (OR 0.955; 95% CI: 0.920-0.993, p=0.019), and pre-existing atrial fibrillation (OR 0.209; 95% CI: 0.101-0.433, p<0.001). Patients without TR reduction had higher rates of rehospitalisation (hazard ratio [HR] 0.642; 95% CI: 0.413-0.998, p=0.049)., Conclusions: The MDCT-derived TA parameter was predictive of TR reduction after TAVR.
