This study aimed to determine the antixenosis of soybean genotypes and the resistance to pod borer. 16 successful lines of soybean were used. Planting dates were arranged in a way to integrate the flowering period of 16 promising lines of soybean. For two days, a pair of four-day adult pod borers were infested in each plant at the R4 stage. The result revealed that the difference in soybean promising lines had a major impact on the population of egg and larva, and on the pod damage severity. The lowest egg (1 egg/plant) was identified in Grb/Myp-16 and GH-Gn-8, while the lowest larval population (1 individual/plant) was in GH-Gn-8. The lowest impaired pod intensity was found on Grb/Myp-16 and Brg/Myp-13. The weight of the seed ranged from 2.4 to 6.5 g/plant. The trichome density ranged from 28.3-72/mm 2 with three different positions (leaning, skewed and upright). In summary, four soybean promising lines were consistently resistant to pod borer, Brg/Myp-13, Grb/Myp-16, GH-Gn-8, and GH/KR-13. The resistance was antixenosis or non-preference as both a place to lay eggs so as a feed. These lines had the possibility as a genetic source to improve resistance to Etiella zinckenella.

There are quite numerous of arthropods associated with mungbean from early growth until harvesting time. The objective of this study was to determine the species, population, and status of arthropods associated with mungbean. The experiment was conducted in Ngale Experimental Station, East Java, during rainy and dry season 2015. The insect collection were done using pitfall trap, yellow sticky trap, sweep net, and visual. The treatments were insecticide application time; P1 = started at 14 days after planting (DAP) up to harvesting; P2 = 8 and 35 DAP up to harvesting; P3 = 8, 14, 21, 35 DAP; P4 = no application, and P5 = full application. The diversity of arthropods on the dry season washigher than that on rainy season. Pests found on mungbean were Diptera (Agromyzidae), Lepidoptera (Noctuidae, Pyralidae, and Crambidae), Homopteraand Hemiptera. The highest population of pest dominated by Homoptera (124 individuals), Hemiptera (57 individuals), and Lepidoptera (60 individuals). The predators found on mungbean were Collembola (Poduridae and Entomobryidae), Coleoptera (Coccinellidae), Araneida (Oxyopidae), Odonata (Aeshnidae and Petaluridae), and Hymenoptera (Formicidae). The parasitoid found was Hymenoptera (Braconidae, Eulophidae, Chacidoidae). The performance of natural enemies can be optimizedfor suppressing pest populations in mungbean by conservation, introduction, and augmentation.

In order to reduce the use of insecticide, the application of Beauveria bassiana may be an alternative control. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of B. bassiana for controlling mungbean pest. The experiment was conducted in Ngale Research Station from February to May 2017, using randomized block design, seven treatments, four replicates. The treatments were frequency of application; P1= six times, P2= five times, P3= four times, P4= three times, P5= once, P6= full protection using chemical insecticide, and P7= no protection. Application of B. bassiana four to six times can suppress the population of Empoasca sp., Riptortus linearis, and Maruca testulalis, but did not significantly different with the application of chemical insecticide. Based on the seed weight, application of B. bassiana six times (659.7 g/plot) led to significantly high as compare with the application of chemical insecticide (374 g/plot). Application of B. bassiana tended to be secure to natural enemies, especially Coccinella sp., Oxyopes javanus, and Paederus fuscipes. Both of those predators were not found on the application of chemical insecticide. Hence, B. bassiana can be recommended as a biological agent in integrated pest management component on mungbean because of effective and environmentally friendly.
