Abstract

Results on two-particle Δ ηΔ ϕ correlations in inelastic p + p interactions at 20, 31, 40, 80, and 158 GeV/c are presented. The measurements were performed using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The data show structures which can be attributed mainly to effects of resonance decays, momentum conservation, and quantum statistics. The results are compared with the Epos and UrQMD models. © 2017, The Author(s).

Abstract

Measurements of particle emission from a replica of the T2K 90 cm-long carbon target were performed in the NA61/SHINE experiment at CERN SPS, using data collected during a high-statistics run in 2009. An efficient use of the long-target measurements for neutrino flux predictions in T2K requires dedicated reconstruction and analysis techniques. Fully-corrected differential yields of π±-mesons from the surface of the T2K replica target for incoming 31 GeV/c protons are presented. A possible strategy to implement these results into the T2K neutrino beam predictions is discussed and the propagation of the uncertainties of these results to the final neutrino flux is performed. © 2016, The Author(s).

Abstract

Inclusive production of Lambda-hyperons was measured with the large acceptance NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS in inelastic p+p interactions at beam momentum of 158 GeV/c. Spectra of transverse momentum and transverse mass as well as distributions of rapidity and x(F) are presented. The mean multiplicity was estimated to be 0.120+/-0.006 (stat.) +/-0.010 (sys.). The results are compared with previous measurements and predictions of the EPOS, URQMD and FRITIOF models.

Abstract

Measurements of hadron production in p + C interactions at 31 GeV/c are performed using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. The analysis is based on the full set of data collected in 2009 using a graphite target with a thickness of 4 % of a nuclear interaction length. Inelastic and production cross sections as well as spectra of (Formula presented.) , (Formula presented.) , p, (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.) are measured with high precision. These measurements are essential for improved calculations of the initial neutrino fluxes in the T2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment in Japan. A comparison of the NA61/SHINE measurements with predictions of several hadroproduction models is presented. © 2016, The Author(s).

Abstract

As the stress coupling in organic Flip Chip packages become more critical due to the introduction of brittle materials and continued pitch shrink, various technologies are emerging to manage or reduce thermal mismatch stresses. In this regard pillar bumps on the die side have had a good start as they also address underfill flow at shrunk pitch as well as electromigration during operation. Pillar bumps on the substrate side is a worthy alternative as they can leverage the capabilities of the substrate industry. Pillar bump technologies such as Tessera's μPILR™ use a unique non -plating process to deposit bumps on substrates to create pillar bumps that are intrinsically co — planar, do not require solder on the bond pads and alter the crack initiation sites and propagation path favorably. These μPILR bumps are deposited on stock organic Flip Chip substrates using tools and processes commonly available to the PCB industry. Using build up panels with differing characteristics from three established suppliers of flip chip substrates, a 150 μm pitch version of μPILR technology has been developed at pilot plant level to a yield greater than 70 %. Units assembled with low — k die and substrates using several designs of μPILR interconnects and heat — spreaders have been tested for reliability (TC, EM) with encouraging results.

Abstract

Leadframe packages utilize SnPb plating on terminals to protect the base metal from corrosion and to provide a solderable surface. However, customers are moving to environmentally conscious products establishing a need to develop alternative Pb free plating finishes for terminals. The most promising solution is Sn-based electroplating. Several Sn-based plating chemistries are commercially available at comparable costs to SnPb. However, Sn-based plating finishes are not free of issues. Whisker growth can cause a component to electrically short. In addition, there is little data on solderability and solder joint reliability for Pb free terminal finishes with Pb free solders, as well as, SnPb solders. Sn, SnCu, SnBi, and SnAg plating finishes were evaluated for whisker growth, solderability, and solder joint reliability. For the packages SnBi out-performed the other Sn-based finishes in terms of whisker free life, needle length, and quantity. Solderability for the Pb free finishes was poor in comparison to the SnPb finish, which passed all solderability preconditioning and test methods. Lastly, solder joint reliability appears to be comparable for all Pb free finishes to the SnPb finish.

Abstract

A low-inductance IGBT (insulated-gate bipolar transistor) module construction is presented. Sufficiently low stray inductance in the module has been realized by adopting a multilayered DBC (direct bond copper) substrate, optimally designed terminals, and the optimum arrangement of terminals. This module construction has made possible high-speed and high-current switching operation with low overshoot voltage. A 600-V/400-A half-bridge circuit is constructed with about 80% of the package size for a conventional module. This module is particularly suitable for 40-50 kW electric vehicle applications. >

Abstract

A link between circadian rhythm and metabolism has long been discussed. Circadian rhythm is controlled by positive and negative transcriptional and translational feedback loops composed of several clock genes. Among clock genes, the brain and muscle Arnt-like protein-1 (BMAL1) and circadian locomotor output cycles kaput (CLOCK) play important roles in the regulation of the positive rhythmic transcription. In addition to control of circadian rhythm, we have previously shown that BMAL1 regulates adipogenesis. In metabolic syndrome patients, the function of BMAL1 is dysregulated in visceral adipose tissue. In addition, analysis of SNPs has revealed that BMAL1 is associated with susceptibility to hypertension and type II diabetes. Furthermore, the significant roles of BMAL1 in pancreatic β cells proliferation and maturation were recently reported. These results suggest that BMAL1 regulates energy homeostasis. Therefore, in this study, we examined whether loss of BMAL1 function is capable of inducing metabolic syndrome. Deficient of the Bmal1 gene in mice resulted in elevation of the respiratory quotient value, indicating that BMAL1 is involved in the utilization of fat as an energy source. Indeed, lack of Bmal1 reduced the capacity of fat storage in adipose tissue, resulting in an increase in the levels of circulating fatty acids, including triglycerides, free fatty acids, and cholesterol. Elevation of the circulating fatty acids level induced the formation of ectopic fat in the liver and skeletal muscle in Bmal1 -/- mice. Interestingly, ectopic fat formation was not observed in tissue-specific (liver or skeletal muscle) Bmal1 -/- mice even under high fat diet feeding condition. Therefore, we were led to conclude that BMAL1 is a crucial factor in the regulation of energy homeostasis, and disorders of the functions of BMAL1 lead to the development of metabolic syndrome.

[reaction: see text]In the photochemical bis-germylation of C60 with 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(2,6-diethylphenyl)-1,2-digermirane (1), a cycloadduct (2) is obtained in high yield for the first time. Spectroscopic analysis and theoretical investigation confirm that 2 (which has C1 symmetry) results from 1,4-cycloaddition. Control experiments and laser flash photolysis experiments suggest that an exciplex intermediate is responsible for the formation of 2. The redox properties of 2 were examined by differential pulse voltammetry.
