Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) are a special class of deep learning algorithms using neurons or nodes, and have received much attention in the subject of data science in the recent years. In RNN, the input nodes take into consideration not only the current inputs, but the previously perceived outputs as well – hence the term recursive. In today’s context, smartphones are very much a part of almost every individual’s daily lives. The demand, development and usage of Android devices is massive. As Android devices dominate the current market share, the question of security naturally arises in our complex world. Consequently, the amount of malware data available for research is voluminous as well. This publication demonstrates the power and efficiency of RNN applied onto Android malware data. We study a procured dataset, with over 4000 entries labeled as malicious or benign. From our experiment and data analytics, we present a prediction accuracy of 0.964 using RNN.

Malicious traffic has garnered more attention in recent years, owing to the rapid growth of information technology in today’s world. In 2007 alone, an estimated loss of 13 billion dollars was made from malware attacks. Malware data in today’s context is massive. To understand such information using primitive methods would be a tedious task. In this publication we demonstrate some of the most advanced deep learning techniques available, multilayer perceptron (MLP) and J48 (also known as C4.5 or ID3) on our selected dataset, Advanced Security Network Metrics & Non-Payload-Based Obfuscations (ASNM-NPBO) to show that the answer to managing cyber security threats lie in the fore-mentioned methodologies.

This study developed a drying method and a dryer that are optimized for shiitake mushrooms. They are mainly being cultivated and consumed as food and medicine in Korea, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia. They generally contain lots of moisture. For this reason, the use of a dryer causes problems such as decomposition and spoilage, and natural dry processing is preferred. To resolve these problems, various drying methods have been proposed (e.g. hot air drying, heat pump vacuum drying) but there has been a difficulty in maintaining a medium-temperature range of 30 to 40°C, the optimal temperature environments for retaining their main components. The study developed a 2-stage decompresses resistive heat pump dryer that can operate also in medium-temperature environments - existing decompresses heat pump dryers have been able to operate only in high-temperature environments. A dryer optimized for shiitake mushrooms that are being produced and distributed in large quantities was proposed, and the utility of the machine was proved through experiments.

The expression of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA), its receptor (u-PAR) and metalloproteases activity were analyzed in 4 human gastric-cancer cell lines (AGS, Hs746T, SNU-1, and SNU-5), in an attempt to relate these activities to their invasive potential and tumorigenicity on the modified chorioallantoic membranes (CAM) of chick embryos. Only 1 of the 4 cell lines tested, Hs746T, expressed both u-PA and u-PAR as well as MMP-2, but not MMP-9. This cell line was both tumorigenic and highly invasive (51.3 +/- 13.1%) on a modified CAM. Its invasive capacity was comparable with that of a highly malignant human epidermoid-carcinoma cell line (HEp3), which usually showed 40 to 50% invasiveness. The 3 other cell lines all produced MMP-2 and MMP-9, but only AGS showed moderate invasiveness (24.2 +/- 8.8%). While antibodies to u-PA were significantly effective in reducing CAM invasiveness of Hs746T cells by approximately 40%, the invasiveness of the t-PA-expressing AGS cell line was not affected by anti-t-PA antibodies. These results suggest that when one of the components of the u-PA/u-PAR system (the enzyme and/or the receptor) is not produced and u-PA/u-PAR-dependent cell-surface proteolytic activity is thereby diminished, the malignant phenotype that can be determined by tumorigenicity and invasion of connective tissue on a CAM is compromised. Production of both type-IV collagenases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) cannot offset this deficiency.
