Abstract: Abstract We search for the radiative decays D + → γρ + and D + → γK *+ using 20.3 fb −1 of e + e − annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energy s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. No significant signals are observed, and the upper limits on the branching fractions of D + → γρ + and D + → γK *+ at 90% confidence level are set to be 1.3 × 10 −5 and 1.8 × 10 −5, respectively.

Abstract: Abstract Using 7.33 fb −1 of e + e − collision data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, we search for the radiative decay D s + → γρ 770 + $$ {D}_s^{+}\to \gamma \rho {(770)}^{+} $$ for the first time. A hint of D s + → γρ 770 + $$ {D}_s^{+}\to \gamma \rho {(770)}^{+} $$ is observed with a statistical significance of 2.5σ. The branching fraction of D s + → γρ 770 + $$ {D}_s^{+}\to \gamma \rho {(770)}^{+} $$ is measured to be (2.2 ± 0.9stat. ± 0.2syst. ) × 10 −4, corresponding to an upper limit of 6.1 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected by the BESIII detector at BEPCII corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 30 fb −1, we measure Born cross sections and effective form factors for the process e + e − → Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Xi}^0{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ at forty-five center-of-mass energies between 3.51 and 4.95 GeV. The dressed cross section is fitted, assuming a power-law function plus a charmonium(-like) state, i.e., ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), ψ(4230), ψ(4360), ψ(4415) or ψ(4660). No significant charmonium(-like) state decaying into Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\Xi}^0{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ is observed. Upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the product of the branching fraction and the electronic partial width are provided for each decay. In addition, ratios of the Born cross sections and the effective form factors for e + e − → Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Xi}^0{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ and e + e − → Ξ − Ξ ¯ + $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Xi}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+} $$ are also presented to test isospin symmetry and the vector meson dominance model.

Abstract: Abstract The branching fraction of D + → K S 0 π 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ is measured for the first time using 7.93 fb −1 of e + e − annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energy s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, and is determined to be B D + → K S 0 π 0 e + ν e = 0.881 ± 0.017 stat . ± 0.016 syst . % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left(0.881\pm {0.017}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.016}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\% $$ . Based on an analysis of the D + → K S 0 π 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ decay dynamics, we observe the S-wave and P-wave components with fractions of f S-wave = (6.13 ± 0.27stat. ± 0.30syst. )% and f K ¯ ∗ 892 0 = 93.88 ± 0.27 stat . ± 0.29 syst . % $$ {f}_{{\overline{K}}^{\ast }{(892)}^0}=\left(93.88\pm {0.27}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.29}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\% $$ , respectively. From these results, we obtain the branching fractions B D + → K S 0 π 0 S − wave e + ν e = 5.41 ± 0.35 stat . ± 0.37 syst . × 10 − 4 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {\left({K}_S^0{\pi}^0\right)}_{S-\textrm{wave}}{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left(5.41\pm {0.35}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.37}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\times {10}^{-4} $$ and B D + → K ¯ ∗ 892 0 e + ν e = 4.97 ± 0.11 stat . ± 0.12 syst . % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast }{(892)}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left(4.97\pm {0.11}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.12}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\% $$ . In addition, the hadronic form-factor ratios of D + → K ¯ ∗ 892 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast }{(892)}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ at q 2 = 0, assuming a single-pole dominance parameterization, are determined to be r V = V 0 A 1 0 = 1.43 ± 0.07 stat . ± 0.03 syst . $$ {r}_V=\frac{V(0)}{A_1(0)}=1.43\pm {0.07}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.03}_{\textrm{syst}.} $$ and r 2 = A 2 0 A 1 0 = 0.72 ± 0.06 stat . ± 0.02 syst . $$ {r}_2=\frac{A_2(0)}{A_1(0)}=0.72\pm {0.06}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.02}_{\textrm{syst}.} $$ .

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0 $$ , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ - K L 0 $$ {K}_L^0 $$ asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},{K}_{S,L}^0X\right)=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)-\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)} $$ in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0\right)=-0.025\pm 0.031 $$ , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)=-0.027\pm 0.048 $$ and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.015\pm 0.046 $$ . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

12. New Methods for Deriving Clear‐Sky Surface Longwave Downward Radiation Based on Remotely Sensed Data and Ground Measurements

Abstract: Abstract Accurate knowledge of spatiotemporal characteristics of land surface energy budget is essential to understand the Earth's surface system. To some extent, the continuous development of remote sensing technology makes the estimation of global high‐resolution surface energy budget possible. However, it is still challenging to accurately derive the global longwave downward radiation (LWDR) from space. In this study, two advanced methods were proposed to estimate clear‐sky LWDR based on Moderate‐resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) products and corresponding ground measured LWDR from several global distributed radiation networks. One is a sensor‐based Random Forest (RF) method that uses MODIS's surface elevation, sensor zenith angle, column precipitable water vapor (PWC), top of atmosphere radiance of band 28, 31, 34, and 36 as inputs; the other is a sensor‐independent nonlinear regression method, which only uses the land surface temperature (LST) and PWC as inputs. The validation results show that the root mean square errors of RF and nonlinear regression method are less than 25.5 W/m2 and bias are less than 0.5 W/m2 under different tenfold cross‐validation schemes. In addition, the sensitivity analysis indicates that the two models are very stable, and the retrieval errors are independent of changes of LST and PWC, and the accuracy does not rely on variations of land cover types, different observing angles, and different seasons. The comparison analysis indicates that the proposed methods are comparable or even better than existing algorithms. More importantly, the proposed sensor‐independent regression method was designed for generality purpose so can easily be utilized with reasonable accuracy.

13. Aerosol physicochemical properties and implications for visibility during an intense haze episode during winter in Beijing

Abstract: The evolution of physical, chemical and optical properties of urban aerosol particles was characterized during an extreme haze episode in Beijing, PRC, from 24 through 31 January 2013 based on in situ measurements. The average mass concentrations of PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 were 99 ± 67 μg m−3 (average ± SD), 188 ± 128 μg m−3 and 265 ± 157 μg m−3, respectively. A significant increase in PM1-2.5 fraction was observed during the most heavily polluted period. The average scattering coefficient at 550 nm was 877 ± 624 Mm−1. An increasing relative amount of coarse particles can be deduced from the variations of backscattering ratios, asymmetry parameter and scattering Ångström exponent. Particle number-size distributions between 14 and 2500 nm diameter showed high number concentrations, particularly in the nucleation mode and accumulation mode. Size-resolved chemical composition of submicron aerosol from a high-resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer showed that the mass concentrations of organic, sulfate, nitrate, ammonium and chlorine mainly resided on particles between 500 and 800 nm (vacuum diameter), and nitrate and ammonium contributed greatly to particle growth during the heavily polluted day (28 January). Increasing relative humidity and stable synoptic conditions on 28 January combined with heavy pollution on 28 January, leading to enhanced water uptake by the hygroscopic submicron particles and formation of secondary aerosol, which might be the main reasons for the severity of the haze episode. Light-scattering apportionment showed that organic, sulfate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium chloride compounds contributed to light-scattering fractions of 54, 24, 12 and 10%, respectively. This study indicated that the organic component in submicron aerosol played an important role in visibility degradation during the haze episode in Beijing.

Abstract: Heterogeneous processes on dust particles are important for understanding the chemistry and radiative balance of the atmosphere. This paper investigates an intense Asian dust storm episode observed at Mount Heng (1269 m a.s.l.) in southern China on 24–26 April 2009. A set of aerosol and trace gas data collected during the study was analyzed to investigate their chemical evolution and heterogeneous photochemistry as the dust traveled to southern China. Results show that the mineral dust arriving at Mt. Heng experienced significant modifications during transport, with large enrichments in secondary species (sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium) compared with the dust composition collected at an upwind mountain top site (Mount Hua). A photochemical age "clock" (−Log10(NOx/NOy)) was employed to quantify the atmospheric processing time. The result indicates an obvious increase in the abundance of secondary water-soluble ions in dust particles with the air mass atmospheric processing time. Based on the observations, a 4-stage evolution process is proposed for carbonate-containing Asian dust, starting from fresh dust to particles coated with hydrophilic and acidic materials. Daytime-enhanced nitrite formation on the dust particles was also observed, which indicates the recent laboratory result of the TiO2 photocatalysis of NO2 as a potential source of nitrite and nitrous acid.

Abstract: Nucleoside/Nucleotide analogues (NAs) are widely used for the antiviral treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB), however, it is difficult to achieve serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) loss with NAs therapy. In recent years, several prospective trails have reported that HBsAg loss (functional cure or clinical cure) also occurs in a small number of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) negative CHB patients who discontinued long-term treatment with NAs. Accordingly, the "stop-to-cure" strategy is proposed. Although the mechanism has not been fully elucidated, the known factors related to serum HBsAg loss with NAs withdrawal include HBV genotype, duration of NAs treatment, serum HBsAg and HBV RNA levels at end-of-treatment, and ethnic differences. In the review, we discuss the best time to stop NAs therapy, the potential markers for predicting relapse after cessation of NAs and the possible mechanism of "stop-to-cure" in HBeAg-negative CHB patients, and propose some suggestions on the time of retreatment.核苷（酸）类似物（NAs）是最常用的慢性乙型肝炎（CHB）抗病毒治疗药物，但其很难使患者HBsAg消失。近年的一些研究发现，小部分HBeAg阴性CHB患者在NAs停药后可继发血清HBsAg阴转（即功能性治愈或临床治愈），并据此提出“停药-治愈”（stop-to-cure）策略。尽管机制尚未完全阐明，目前已知的停药后血清HBsAg阴转相关因素包括乙型肝炎病毒（HBV）基因型、NAs疗程长短、停药时的HBsAg和HBV RNA水平及人种差异等。本文特就HBeAg阴性CHB患者的最佳停药时机、预测停药复发的潜在标志物及停药-治愈的可能机制进行讨论，并对再治疗时机等提出建议。.

Abstract: Summary Identification of high‐risk patients admitted to intensive care with COVID‐19 may inform management strategies. The objective of this meta‐analysis was to determine factors associated with mortality among adults with COVID‐19 admitted to intensive care by searching databases for studies published between 1 January 2020 and 6 December 2020. Observational studies of COVID‐19 adults admitted to critical care were included. Studies of mixed cohorts and intensive care cohorts restricted to a specific patient sub‐group were excluded. Dichotomous variables were reported with pooled OR and 95%CI, and continuous variables with pooled standardised mean difference (SMD) and 95%CI. Fifty‐eight studies (44,305 patients) were included in the review. Increasing age (SMD 0.65, 95%CI 0.53–0.77); smoking (OR 1.40, 95%CI 1.03–1.90); hypertension (OR 1.54, 95%CI 1.29–1.85); diabetes (OR 1.41, 95%CI 1.22–1.63); cardiovascular disease (OR 1.91, 95%CI 1.52–2.38); respiratory disease (OR 1.75, 95%CI 1.33–2.31); renal disease (OR 2.39, 95%CI 1.68–3.40); and malignancy (OR 1.81, 95%CI 1.30–2.52) were associated with mortality. A higher sequential organ failure assessment score (SMD 0.86, 95%CI 0.63–1.10) and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation‐2 score (SMD 0.89, 95%CI 0.65–1.13); a lower PaO2:FIO2 (SMD −0.44, 95%CI −0.62 to −0.26) and the need for mechanical ventilation at admission (OR 2.53, 95%CI 1.90–3.37) were associated with mortality. Higher white cell counts (SMD 0.37, 95%CI 0.22–0.51); neutrophils (SMD 0.42, 95%CI 0.19–0.64); D‐dimers (SMD 0.56, 95%CI 0.43–0.69); ferritin (SMD 0.32, 95%CI 0.19–0.45); lower platelet (SMD −0.22, 95%CI −0.35 to −0.10); and lymphocyte counts (SMD −0.37, 95%CI −0.54 to −0.19) were all associated with mortality. In conclusion, increasing age, pre‐existing comorbidities, severity of illness based on validated scoring systems, and the host response to the disease were associated with mortality; while male sex and increasing BMI were not. These factors have prognostic relevance for patients admitted to intensive care with COVID‐19.

Abstract: β decay of proton-rich nuclei plays an important role in exploring isospin mixing. The β decay of ^{26}P at the proton drip line is studied using double-sided silicon strip detectors operating in conjunction with high-purity germanium detectors. The T=2 isobaric analog state (IAS) at 13 055 keV and two new high-lying states at 13 380 and 11 912 keV in ^{26}Si are unambiguously identified through β-delayed two-proton emission (β2p). Angular correlations of two protons emitted from ^{26}Si excited states populated by ^{26}P β decay are measured, which suggests that the two protons are emitted mainly sequentially. We report the first observation of a strongly isospin-mixed doublet that deexcites mainly via two-proton decay. The isospin mixing matrix element between the ^{26}Si IAS and the nearby 13 380-keV state is determined to be 130(21) keV, and this result represents the strongest mixing, highest excitation energy, and largest level spacing of a doublet ever observed in β-decay experiments.

Abstract: The localizations of sodium exclusion are roots and stem base, however, Na+ distribution in these localizations is unclear. Here, we used a salt-tolerant buckwheat cultivar Chuanqiao No.1 and a salt-sensitive cultivar TQ-0808 to demonstrate Na+ distribution. We found that Na+ content was highest in vacuole, the following was in cell wall or free space, and the least was in cytoplasm. Comparative analysis shows that Na+ accumulation in vacuole, cell wall, or free space of roots and stem base in 'Chuanqiao No.1' was obviously higher than in 'TQ-0808'; in contrast, Na+ accumulation in cytoplasm of 'Chuanqiao No.1' was less than in 'TQ-0808'. These results indicate that the capabilities of Na+ extrusion and Na+ compartmentalization of salt-tolerant buckwheat were obviously higher than of the salt-sensitive one, and the capabilities could effectively restrict Na+ transport to shoot. Compartmentalization of Na+ in the vacuole was the main way for Na+ exclusion of salt-tolerant buckwheat. In addition, the transcriptions of Na+/H+ antiporter 1 and salt overly sensitive 1 were remarkably higher in 'Chuanqiao No.1' than in 'TQ-0808', which is consistent with the above results.

Abstract: The beta-delayed two-proton (beta 2p) decay of S-27 was studied using a state-of-the-art silicon array and Clover-type HPGe detectors. An energy peak at 6372(15) keV with a branching ratio of 2.4(5)% in the decay-energy spectrum was identified as a two-proton transition via the isobaric-analog state in P-27 to the ground state of Al-25 in the beta decay of S-27. Two-proton angular correlations were measured by the silicon array to study the mechanism of two-proton emission. Based on experimental results and Monte Carlo simulations, it was found that the main mechanism for the emission of beta 2p by S-27 is of sequential nature.

Abstract: Objective We investigated the clinico-pathological associations of serum VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 levels in patients with biopsy-proven Class III/IV±V lupus nephritis (LN). Methods Serum VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 levels were determined by ELISAs. Sera from patients with non-renal SLE or non-lupus chronic kidney disease (CKD), and healthy subjects served as controls. Results Seropositivity rate for VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 was 93.10% and 37.93% respectively at the time of nephritic flare, and 44.83% and 13.79% respectively at remission, with both showing higher levels during flare ( P Conclusion Our findings suggest potential utility of serum VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 in clinical management. Monitoring VCAM-1 may facilitate early diagnosis of flare. Combining selected biomarkers may be advantageous in diagnosing active LN. VCAM-1 may have a pathogenic role in renal parenchymal inflammation in active LN.

Abstract: RIBLL Collaboration: et al., The mass of 27P is expected to impact the X-ray burst (XRB) model predictions of burst light curves and the composition of the burst ashes, but large uncertainties and inconsistencies still exist in the reported 27P masses. We have used the β-decay spectroscopy of 27S to determine the most precise mass excess of 7P to date to be −659(9)keV, which is 63 keV (2.3σ) higher and a factor of 3 more precise than the value recommended in the 2016 Atomic Mass Evaluation. Based on the new 27P mass, the 26Si(p, γ)27P reaction rate and its uncertainty were recalculated using Monte Carlo techniques. We also estimated the previously unknown mass excess of 27S to be 17678(77) keV, based on the measured β-delayed two-proton energy and the Coulomb displacement energy relations. The impact of these well-constrained masses and reaction rates on the modeling of the explosive astrophysical scenarios has been investigated by post-processing XRB and hydrodynamic nova models. Compared to the model calculations based on the masses and rates from databases, the abundance of A =26 in the burst ashes is increased by a factor of 2.4, while no substantial change was found in the XRB energy generation rate or the light curve. Abstract: $\beta$ decay of $^{26}$P was used to populate the astrophysically important $E_x=$5929.4(8) keV $J^{\pi}=3{^+}$ state of $^{26}$Si. Both $\beta$-delayed proton at 418(8) keV and gamma ray at 1742(2) keV emitted from this state were measured simultaneously for the first time with corresponding absolute intensities of 11.1(12)\% and 0.59(44)\%, respectively. Besides, shell model calculations with weakly bound effects were performed to investigate the decay properties of other resonant states and a spin-parity of $4^+$ rather than $0^+$ was favored for the $E_x=$5945.9(40) keV state. Combining the experimental results and theoretical calculations, $^{25}$Al($p,\gamma$)$^{26}$Si reaction rate in explosive hydrogen burning environments was calculated and compared with previous studies.

Abstract: The 2019 European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Clinical Practice Guidelines (hereinafter referred to as the EASL Guidelines) extracted the required evidence from detailed research materials, and rigorously graded and condensed the varying strengths of evidence into 32 recommendations and 14 statements (recommendations and reminders) for drug-induced Liver Injury (DILI). Abstract: Background: Beta-decay spectroscopy provides valuable nuclear physics input for thermonuclear reaction rates of astrophysical interest and stringent test for shell-model theories far from the stability line. Purpose: The available decay properties of proton drip-line nucleus $^{27}$S is insufficient to constrain the properties of the key resonance in $^{26}$Si$(p,\gamma)^{27}$P reaction rate and probe the possible isospin asymmetry. The decay scheme of $^{27}$S is complicated and far from being understood, which has motivated but also presented challenges for our experiment. Method: The $^{27}$S ions were implanted into a double-sided silicon strip detector array surrounded by the high-purity germanium detectors, where the $\beta$-delayed protons and $\gamma$ rays were measured simultaneously. Results: The improved spectroscopic properties including the precise half-life of $^{27}$S, the excitation energies, $\beta$-decay branching ratios, log~$ft$ values, and $B$(GT) values for the states of $^{27}$P populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{27}$S were measured and compared to the $^{27}$Mg mirror states and the shell-model calculations. The present work has expanded greatly on the previously established decay scheme of $^{27}$S. Conclusions: The precise proton-separation energy of $^{27}$P, the energy and the ratio between $\gamma$ and proton partial widths of the $3/2^+$ resonance were obtained, thereby determining the $^{26}$Si$(p,\gamma)^{27}$P reaction rate based mainly on experimental constraints. The first evidence for the observation of a large isospin asymmetry for the mirror decays of $^{27}$S and $^{27}$Na is also provided. The experimental spectroscopic information can be reproduced by the shell-model calculation taking the weakly bound effect of the proton $1s_{1/2}$ orbit into account.

33. Tinder blue, mental flu? Exploring the associations between Tinder use and well-being

Abstract: While Tinder (i.e., a popular mobile dating app) has received quite some research attention, its effects on users’ well-being have rarely been addressed. The present study investigates the extent to which Tinder users’ compulsive use, motives, subjective online success and self-conscious social comparison are associated with their well-being (i.e., joviality, sadness, and anxiety). In total, 296 (39% females; 90% heterosexuals) emerging adults who were currently using Tinder completed an online survey. The results suggest that while using Tinder compulsively and for relationship seeking can increase joviality, they may trigger more negative than positive affect. Moreover, feeling unsuccessful on Tinder and making self-conscious social comparisons were positively associated with sadness and anxiety, and negatively associated with joviality. The results seem to imply that Tinder users need to be aware of their compulsive Tinder use, relationship seeking motive, unsuccessful feeling, and/or self-conscious social comparison tendency on Tinder to better understand the consequences of their Tinder use. Although the current study is based on cross-sectional data, the findings suggest an association between using Tinder and users’ well-being. Future research could extend these findings by utilizing a longitudinal research design and including other aspects of well-being and psychopathology such as life satisfaction and depression.

Abstract: (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 (KNN)/[P(VDF-TrFE)70:30] composite thick films with different KNN weight ratios have been fabricated and the effect of KNN mass content on the material structure and properties have been studied in this paper. Properties of the infrared sensor based KNN/[P(VDF-TrFE)70:30] composite thick film were also systematically studied. It was found that the sample containing 30 wt.% KNN show optimal properties for pyroelectric appliance and the highest pyroelectric coefficient was 63 μCm−2 K−1. Infrared sensors using 30 wt.% KNN-70 wt.%[P(VDF-TrFE)70:30] show highest detectivity (D∗ = 3.21 × 108 cm Hz1/2 W−1) at 137.3 Hz, indicating it is an promising candidate in lead-free quick response infrared detectors.

Abstract: The effect of Pb(ZrTi)0.98Mn0.02O3 (PZTM) weight ratio on the properties of PZTM/P(VDF-TrFE) pyroelectric composites and devices was reported in this paper. Infrared devices were fabricated using PZTM/P(VDF-TrFE) composite films with different weight ratio. The pyroelectric coefficient, the dielectric properties and the infrared absorptivity of the composite materials have been measured. It was found that the pyroelectric constant of the composite decreased as PZTM weight increased. In contrast, the dielectric permittivity increased as PZTM weight increased. Especially, the composite with 0.41 PZTM weight ratio showed the smallest dielectric loss and largest infrared absorptivity. The properties of the detectors fabricated using the composite materials with different PZTM weight ratio have been further tested. It was found that the infrared irradiation absorptivity showed great impact on the performance of the devices other than the pyroelectric coefficient and dielectric permittivity.

Abstract: An abundance of surgical studies during the past 2 centuries provide empirical evidence of periosteum's regenerative power for reconstructing tissues as diverse as trachea and bone. This study aimed to develop quantitative, efficacy-based measures, thereby providing translational guidelines for the use of periosteum to harness the body's own healing potential and generate target tissues. The current study quantitatively and qualitatively demonstrated tissue generation modulated by a periosteum substitute membrane that replicates the structural constituents of native periosteum (elastin, collagen, progenitor cells) and its barrier, extracellular, and cellular properties. It shows the potentiation of the periosteum's regenerative capacity through the progenitor cells that inhabit the tissue, biological factors intrinsic to the extracellular matrix of periosteum, and mechanobiological factors related to implant design and implementation. In contrast to the direct intramembranous bone generated in defects surrounded by patent periosteum in situ, tissue generation in bone defects bounded by the periosteum substitute implant occurred primarily via endochondral mechanisms whereby cartilage was first generated and then converted to bone. In addition, in defects treated with the periosteum substitute, tissue generation was highest along the major centroidal axis, which is most resistant to prevailing bending loads. Taken together, these data indicate the possibility of designing modular periosteum substitute implants that can be tuned for vectorial and spatiotemporal delivery of biological agents and facilitation of target tissue genesis for diverse surgical scenarios and regenerative medicine approaches. It also underscores the potential to develop physical therapy protocols to maximize tissue genesis via the implant's mechanoactive properties. Significance In the past 2 centuries, the periosteum, a niche for stem cells and super-smart biological material, has been used empirically in surgery to repair tissues as diverse as trachea and bone. In the past 25 years, the number of articles indexed in PubMed for the keywords “periosteum and tissue engineering” and “periosteum and regenerative medicine” has burgeoned. Yet the biggest limitation to the prescriptive use of periosteum is lack of easy access, giving impetus to the development of periosteum substitutes. Recent studies have opened up the possibility to bank periosteal tissues (e.g., from the femoral neck during routine resection for implantation of hip replacements). This study used an interdisciplinary, quantitative approach to assess tissue genesis in modular periosteum substitute implants, with the aim to provide translational strategies for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.

Abstract: The periosteum, a composite cellular connective tissue, bounds all nonarticular bone surfaces. Like Velcro, collagenous Sharpey's fibers anchor the periosteum in a prestressed state to the underlying bone. The periosteum provides a niche for mesenchymal stem cells. Periosteal lifting, as well as injury, causes cells residing in the periosteum (PDCs) to change from an immobile, quiescent state to a mobile, active state. The physical cues that activate PDCs to home to and heal injured areas remain a conundrum. An understanding of these cues is key to unlocking periosteum's remarkable regenerative power. We hypothesized that changes in periosteum's baseline stress state modulate the quiescence of its stem cell niche. We report, for the first time, a three-dimensional, high-resolution live tissue imaging protocol to observe and characterize ovine PDCs and their niche before and after release of the tissue's endogenous prestress. Loss of prestress results in abrupt shrinkage of the periosteal tissue. At the microscopic scale, loss of prestress results in significantly increased crimping of collagen of periosteum's fibrous layer and a threefold increase in the number of rounded nuclei in the cambium layer. Given the body of published data describing the relationships between stem cell and nucleus shape, structure and function, these observations are consistent with a role for mechanics in the modulation of periosteal niche quiescence. The quantitative characterization of periosteum as a stem cell niche represents a critical step for clinical translation of the periosteum and periosteum substitute-based implants for tissue defect healing.

Surgical osteotomy was performed on 179 Sprague Dawley rats. After 1 week, rats underwent distraction for 2 weeks, followed by 6 weeks for consolidation. Abstract: The effect of potassium-sodium niobate (KNN) powder sintering temperature on the structure and properties of the KNN/{poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-trifluoroethylene 70:30) [P(VDF-TrFE) 70:30]} composite thick films have been studied in this paper. KNN powders were sintered by solid-state reaction at different temperatures ranging from 750 to 900 °C. Then the KNN powders were used to fabricate composite thick films by casting the KNN/P(VDF-TrFE) suspension on to ITO substrates. The pyroelectric and dielectric properties of the composite thick films have been investigated systematically. It was found that sample made up of KNN ceramic powders sintered at 850 °C show optimal properties for pyroelectric appliance. The highest pyroelectric coefficient was 63 μCm−2/K and the highest detectivity figure-of-merit was 4.94 μPa1/2.

Abstract: The properties of BiFeO3/intermediate layer/substrate structures fabricated by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering at low temperatures (450°C) and by deposition on substrates and intermediate layers between the substrate and the BiFeO3 film have been investigated. In the structures, glass substrates or commercial Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si(001) substrates have been used, and intermediate layers have been prepared from L10 FePt or Pt films. Intermediate layers of Pt and L10 FePt have the (111) and (001) textures, respectively, induced by rapid thermal annealing. It has been revealed that the deposition on the commercial substrates leads to the formation of BiFeO3 isotropic films that have a large surface roughness and consist of grains ∼200 nm in size with the BiFeO3 perovskite structure. In the case of the deposition of a BiFeO3 film on a Pt(111) intermediate layer, the BiFeO3 phase is suppressed. The deposition on an intermediate layer of the L10 FePt film with the (001) texture results in the formation of a single-phase BiFeO3 film with the (001) texture and the perovskite structure, which (as compared to the BiFeO3 films grown on the commercial substrate) has a less pronounced roughness, smaller grain sizes, and significantly better ferroelectric properties.

Abstract: Background: Treatment of infected open fractures remains a major clinical challenge. In this study, we investigated the novel broad-spectrum antibiotic CSA-90 (cationic steroid antibiotic-90) as an antimicrobial agent. Methods: CSA-90 was screened in an osteoblast cell culture model for effects on differentiation and mineralization. Local delivery of CSA-90 was then tested alone and in combination with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) in a mouse ectopic bone formation model (n = 40 mice) and in a rat open fracture model inoculated with pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus (n = 84 rats). Results: CSA-90 enhanced matrix mineralization in cultured osteoblasts and increased rhBMP-2-induced bone formation in vivo. All animals in which an open fracture had been inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus and not treated with local CSA-90, including those treated with rhBMP-2, had to be culled prior to the experimental end point (six weeks) because of localized osteolysis and deterioration of overall health, whereas CSA-90 prevented establishment of infection in all open fractures in which it was used (p ≤ 0.012). Increased union rates were seen for the fractures treated with rhBMP-2 or with the combination of rhBMP-2 and CSA-90 compared with that observed for the fractures treated with CSA-90 alone (p = 0.04). Conclusions: CSA-90 can promote osteogenesis and be used for prevention of Staphylococcus aureus infection in preclinical models. Clinical Relevance: Local delivery of CSA-90 represents a novel strategy for prevention of infection and may have specific benefits in the context of orthopaedic injuries.

Importantly, Scl-Ab led to increased strength in united bones, and this reached statistical significance in animals receiving Scl-Ab during consolidation only (+177%, p 0.01, maximum load to failure). These data demonstrate that Scl-Ab treatment increases bone formation, leading to regenerates with higher bone volume and improved strength. Our data also suggest that the optimal effects of Scl-Ab treatment are achieved in the latter stages of distraction osteogenesis. These findings support further investigation into the potential clinical application of sclerostin antibody to augment bone distraction, such as limb lengthening, particularly in the prevention of refracture. © 2017 Orthopaedic Research Society. Abstract: Soil rill erodibility (Kr) is an important parameter for process-based soil erosion models since it reflects the soil9s ability to resist concentrated flow detachment. Detailed information on the temporal variability of Kr remains scarce but critical to accurately predict rill erosion. This study was conducted to investigate the temporal variations in Kr of a silt loam loess soil using the undisturbed topsoil samples collected from four typical croplands (corn [Zea mays L.], millet [Setaria italic], soybean [Glycine max], and potato [Solanum tuberosum L.]) and to further quantify the potential factors causing those changes in the Loess Plateau of China during one growing season from early April to late September of 2012. The results showed that the measured mean rill erodibility varied greatly with types of cropland. The potato land had the maximum mean Kr, and followed by corn, soybean, and millet. The Kr of the four croplands fluctuated considerably over time and tended to decline with root growth. Temporal variations in Kr were closely related to tillage operations, soil consolidation, water-stable aggregates, and root growth. The rill erodibility could be well predicted with root density, soil cohesion, and initial soil moisture content (NSE ≥ 0.82). Further studies are needed to detect the effects of root diameter of different plant types on rill erodibility.

Abstract: The photovoltaic (PV) property of multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) nanocrystalline films with different textures on glass substrates has been studied. Highly textured BFO(001) films were obtained on ferromagnetic L10-FePt(001) bottom electrodes by sputtering, while the isotropic polycrystalline BFO films were prepared on 20-nm-thick Pt(111) bottom electrodes by pulse laser deposition. All studied BFO films exhibited significant PV effect under laser illumination with wavelength of 405 nm, and the short-circuit photocurrent density was increased with the increase of laser intensity. Large photocurrent density ( Jsc) of 5.9 μA/cm2 at laser power of 220 mW/cm2 was obtained in the BFO(001) film grown on 20-nm-thick FePt electrode, and the value was larger than that of the isotropic single phase BFO film by a factor more than 1.7. This difference could be explained by the depolarization effect along different lattice orientations. Furthermore, it was found that the larger compressive residual strain in the BFO(001) film leads to a 34% decrement in Jsc, which was believed to result from the widened band gap. PV property was also sensitive to phase and roughness, the formation of Bi2O3, and a roughened surface suppresses PV effect.

Abstract: Current clinical delivery of recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins (rhBMPs) utilises freeze-dried collagen. Despite effective new bone generation, rhBMP via collagen can be limited by significant complications due to inflammation and uncontrolled bone formation. This study aimed to produce an alternative rhBMP local delivery system to permit more controllable and superior rhBMP-induced bone formation. Cylindrical porous poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) scaffolds were manufactured by thermally-induced phase separation. Scaffolds were encapsulated with anabolic rhBMP-2 (20 μg) ± anti-resorptive agents: zoledronic acid (5 μg ZA), ZA pre-adsorbed onto hydroxyapatite microparticles, (5 μg ZA/2 % HA) or IkappaB kinase (IKK) inhibitor (10 μg PS-1145). Scaffolds were inserted in a 6-mm critical-sized femoral defect in Wistar rats, and compared against rhBMP-2 via collagen. The regenerate region was examined at 6 weeks by 3D microCT and descriptive histology. MicroCT and histology revealed rhBMP-induced bone was more restricted in the PLGA scaffolds than collagen scaffolds (-92.3 % TV, p < 0.01). The regenerate formed by PLGA + rhBMP-2/ZA/HA showed comparable bone volume to rhBMP-2 via collagen, and bone mineral density was +9.1 % higher (p < 0.01). Local adjunct ZA/HA or PS-1145 significantly enhanced PLGA + rhBMP-induced bone formation by +78.2 % and +52.0 %, respectively (p ≤ 0.01). Mechanistically, MG-63 human osteoblast-like cells showed cellular invasion and proliferation within PLGA scaffolds. In conclusion, PLGA scaffolds enabled superior spatial control of rhBMP-induced bone formation over clinically-used collagen. The PLGA scaffold has the potential to avoid uncontrollable bone formation-related safety issues and to customise bone shape by scaffold design. Moreover, local treatment with anti-resorptive agents incorporated within the scaffold further augmented rhBMP-induced bone formation.

50. A statistical analysis of industrial penetration and internet intensity in Taiwan

Abstract: This paper is the first to investigate the effect of industrial penetration (geographic concentration of industries) and internet intensity (the proportion of enterprises that uses the internet) for Taiwan manufacturing firms, and analyses whether the relationships are substitutes or complements. The sample observations are based on a unique set of data, namely 153,081 manufacturing plants, and covers 26 two-digit industry categories and 358 geographical townships in Taiwan. TheHeckman sample selection model is used to accommodate sample selectivity for unobservable data for firms that use the internet. The empirical results from Heckman's two-stage estimation show that: (1) a higher degree of industrial penetration will not affect the probability that firms will use the internet, but it will affect the total expenditure on internet intensity; (2) for two-digit SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) industries, industrial penetration generally decreases the total expenditure on internet intensity; and, (3) industrial penetration and internet intensity are substitutes.
