1. Trans-scaphoid trans-lunate trans-triquetral volar perilunate dislocation: A case report

Abstract

Introduction: Translunate volar perilunate dislocations are extremely rare, with few documented cases. Only eight instances of volar translunate perilunate dislocation have been described in the literature. This report presents a successfully treated case using early reduction and internal fixation that led to a very satisfying outcome at 9 months follow-up. Case report: A 20-year-old man presented with left wrist pain and swelling after a fall from a vehicle at 50 km/h, landing on an outstretched right hand. Radiographs and a CT scan identified scaphoid, lunate, and triquetral fractures, along with a volar perilunate dislocation. Surgical treatment was performed with a dorsal approach, including scaphoid and lunate fracture fixation, triquetral avulsion repair, and lunate stabilization with K-wires. The wrist was immobilized for 6 weeks, intense physical therapy started after K-wires removal. At 9 months follow-up, positive results were seen clinically and radiologically. Discussion: A perilunate fracture-dislocation includes dislocation of the carpus from the lunate. Johnson divided these injuries into lesser arc (pure ligamentous) and greater arc (fracture-related). Bain introduced the translunate arc concept in a case series of three patients, depicting a path through the lunate causing lunate fracture alongside perilunate injury. Treatment focuses on lunate reduction and fixation, combined with addressing greater and lesser arc injuries. Achieving successful lunate realignment and fixation is challenging. However, early diagnosis, prompt reduction, rigid fixation, and repair of both arc injuries can lead to optimal functional recovery.

Abstract

A far infrared radiometer (FIRR) dedicated to measuring radiation emitted by clear and cloudy atmospheres was developed in the framework of the Thin Ice Clouds in Far InfraRed Experiment (TICFIRE) technology demonstration satellite project. The FIRR detector is an array of 80 × 60 uncooled microbolometers coated with gold black to enhance the absorptivity and responsivity. A filter wheel is used to select atmospheric radiation in nine spectral bands ranging from 8 to 50 µm. Calibrated radiances are obtained using two well-calibrated blackbodies. Images are acquired at a frame rate of 120 Hz, and temporally averaged to reduce electronic noise. A complete measurement sequence takes about 120 s. With a field of view of 6°, the FIRR is not intended to be an imager. Hence spatial average is computed over 193 illuminated pixels to increase the signal-to-noise ratio and consequently the detector resolution. This results in an improvement by a factor of 5 compared to individual pixel measurements. Another threefold increase in resolution is obtained using 193 non-illuminated pixels to remove correlated electronic noise, leading an overall resolution of approximately 0.015 W m−2 sr−1. Laboratory measurements performed on well-known targets suggest an absolute accuracy close to 0.02 W m−2 sr−1, which ensures atmospheric radiance is retrieved with an accuracy better than 1 %. Preliminary in situ experiments performed from the ground in winter and in summer on clear and cloudy atmospheres are compared to radiative transfer simulations. They point out the FIRR ability to detect clouds and changes in relative humidity of a few percent in various atmospheric conditions, paving the way for the development of new algorithms dedicated to ice cloud characterization and water vapor retrieval.

3. Enhanced backstepping control for an unconventional quadrotor under external disturbances

Abstract

Robust control of non-linear systems is a challenging task, notably in the presence of external disturbances and uncertain parameters. The main focus of this paper is to solve the trajectory tracking problem of an unconventional quadrotor with rotating arms (also known as a foldable drone), while overcoming some of the challenges associated with this type of vehicle. Therefore, in a first step, the model of this vehicle is presented, taking into account the change of the inertia, the centre of gravity, and the control matrix. The theoretical foundations of backstepping control, based on the finite time Lyapunov stability theory and enhanced by a Super-Twisting algorithm, are then discussed. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the efficiency of the suggested control approach. Finally, a qualitative and quantitative comparative study of the proposed controller with the conventional backstepping controller is performed. Overall, the obtained results show that the proposed control strategy outperforms in terms of accuracy and resilience.

Abstract

Recently, transformable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become a subject of great interest in the field of flying systems, due to their maneuverability, agility and morphological capacities. They can be used for specific missions and in more congested spaces. Moreover, this novel class of UAVs is considered as a viable solution for providing flying robots with specific and versatile functionalities. In this paper, we propose (i) a new design of a transformable quadrotor with (ii) generic modeling and (iii) adaptive control strategy. The proposed UAV is able to change its flight configuration by rotating its four arms independently around a central body, thanks to its adaptive geometry. To simplify and lighten the prototype, a simple mechanism with a light mechanical structure is proposed. Since the Center of Gravity (CoG) of the UAV moves according to the desired morphology of the system, a variation of the inertia and the allocation matrix occurs instantly. These dynamics parameters play an important role in the system control and its stability, representing a key difference compared with the classic quadrotor. Thus, a new generic model is developed, taking into account all these variations together with aerodynamic effects. To validate this model and ensure the stability of the designed UAV, an adaptive backstepping control strategy based on the change in the flight configuration is applied. MATLAB simulations are provided to evaluate and illustrate the performance and efficiency of the proposed controller. Finally, some experimental tests are presented.

Abstract

The molecular complexity of the carbohydrates consumed by humans has been deceptively oversimplified due to a lack of analytical methods that possess the throughput, sensitivity, and resolution required to provide quantitative structural information. However, such information is becoming an integral part of understanding how specific glycan structures impact health through their interaction with the gut microbiome and host physiology. This work presents a detailed catalogue of the glycans present in complementary foods commonly consumed by toddlers during weaning and foods commonly consumed by American adults. The monosaccharide compositions of over 800 foods from diverse food groups including Fruits, Vegetables, Grain Products, Beans, Peas, Other Legumes, Nuts, Seeds; Sugars, Sweets and Beverages; Animal Products, and more were obtained and used to construct the “Davis Food Glycopedia” (DFG), an open-access database that provides quantitative structural information on the carbohydrates in food. While many foods within the same group possessed similar compositions, hierarchical clustering analysis revealed similarities between different groups as well. Such a Glycopedia can be used to formulate diets rich in specific monosaccharide residues to provide a more targeted modulation of the gut microbiome, thereby opening the door for a new class of prophylactic or therapeutic diets.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Automated dietary assessment tools such as ASA24(®) are useful for collecting 24-hour recall data in large-scale studies. Modifications made during manual data cleaning may affect nutrient intakes. OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the effects of modifications made during manual data cleaning on nutrient intakes of interest: energy, carbohydrate, total fat, protein, and fiber. METHODS: Differences in mean intake before and after data cleaning modifications for all recalls and average intakes per subject were analyzed by paired t-tests. The Chi-squared test was used to determine whether unsupervised recalls had more open-ended text responses that required modification than supervised recalls. We characterized food types of text response modifications. Correlations between predictive energy requirements, measured total energy expenditure (TEE), and mean energy intake from raw and modified data were examined. RESULTS: After excluding 11 recalls with invalidating technical errors, 1499 valid recalls completed by 393 subjects were included in this analysis. We found significant differences before and after modifications for energy, carbohydrate, total fat, and protein intakes for all recalls (P < 0.05). Limiting to modified recalls, there were significant differences for all nutrients of interest, including fiber (P < 0.02). There was not a significantly greater proportion of text responses requiring modification for home compared with supervised recalls (P = 0.271). Predicted energy requirements correlated highly with TEE. There was no significant difference in correlation of mean energy intake with TEE for modified compared with raw data. Mean intake for individual subjects was significantly different for energy, protein, and fat intakes following cleaning modifications (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Manual modifications can change mean nutrient intakes for an entire cohort and individuals. However, modifications did not significantly affect the correlation of energy intake with predictive requirements and measured expenditure. Investigators can consider their research question and nutrients of interest when deciding to make cleaning modifications.

Abstract

We present precise optical and near-infrared ground-based photometry of two Globular Clusters (GCs): Omega Cen and 47 Tuc. These photometric catalogs are unbiased in the Red Giant Branch (RGB) region close to the tip. We provide new estimates of the RGB tip (TRGB) magnitudes--m_I(TRGB)=9.84+/-0.05, Omega Cen; m_I(TRGB)=9.46+/-0.06, 47 Tuc--and use these to determine the relative distances of the two GCs. We find that distance ratios based on different calibrations of the TRGB, the RR Lyrae stars and kinematic distances agree with each other within one sigma. Absolute TRGB and RR Lyrae distance moduli agree within 0.10--0.15 mag, while absolute kinematic distance moduli are 0.2--0.3 mag smaller. Absolute distances to 47 Tuc based on the Zero-Age-Horizontal-Branch and on the white dwarf fitting agree within 0.1 mag, but they are 0.1--0.3 mag smaller than TRGB and RR Lyrae distances.

11. Photometric study of the eclipsing binary V1034 Sco

Abstract

We present multi-colour Stromgren photometry of the eclipsing binary V1034 Sco in the galactic open cluster NGC 6231, providing for the first time a full coverage of the orbital period (P = 2.44 days) and a complete analysis of the orbit. This extensive new photometry was analyzed together with multiband spectroscopy and results in an improved ephemeris, photometric elements and absolute parameters of the components. The system is close, but clearly detached. The masses of the components M1 = 16.8 ± 0.5 Mand M2 = 9.4 ± 0.3 Mdo not correspond to the published spectral classification (O9III + B1III). The parameters of the components are consistent with the main-sequence luminosity class. We independently derive a distance modulus V0 − MV = 10.73 ± 0.02.

Abstract

We obtained high-precision time-series observations of stars in the open cluster NGC 1817 in order to find d Scuti stars among the cluster members. The detection of 12 d Scuti stars, of which our data suggest that 11 are cluster members, makes NGC 1817 a key target for asteroseismology of 1.52.5 M, stars. One of the cluster member d Scuti stars is also an eclipsing binary, potentially offering very strong constraints for theoretical modeling. In addition, we find one d Scuti star candidate, a g Dor candidate, two variables of currently unknown type, and two eclipsing binary systems. We also describe a method for combining the oscillation frequencies of several d Scuti stars in a single cluster to obtain information about the order n of the excited modes. This method will eventually be used to constrain the theoretical models to be compared with precise oscillation frequencies determined from a future multisite campaign (asteroseismology). Abstract

We report on new CCD observations of the open cluster NGC 1817, obtained as part of a program to search for pulsating stars in clusters. In a previous study, several δ Sct stars were found in NGC 1817 and our observations confirm that NGC 1817 is a special cluster, as we detected 19 variable stars. Twelve of these are most likely δ Sct stars of which 11 seem to be cluster members. One is also an eclipsing binary.

Abstract

Item does not contain fulltext BACKGROUND: The effect of intensified platelet inhibition for patients with unstable angina or myocardial infarction without ST-segment elevation who do not undergo revascularization has not been delineated. METHODS: In this double-blind, randomized trial, in a primary analysis involving 7243 patients under the age of 75 years receiving aspirin, we evaluated up to 30 months of treatment with prasugrel (10 mg daily) versus clopidogrel (75 mg daily). In a secondary analysis involving 2083 patients 75 years of age or older, we evaluated 5 mg of prasugrel versus 75 mg of clopidogrel. RESULTS: At a median follow-up of 17 months, the primary end point of death from cardiovascular causes, myocardial infarction, or stroke among patients under the age of 75 years occurred in 13.9% of the prasugrel group and 16.0% of the clopidogrel group (hazard ratio in the prasugrel group, 0.91; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.79 to 1.05; P=0.21). Similar results were observed in the overall population. The prespecified analysis of multiple recurrent ischemic events (all components of the primary end point) suggested a lower risk for prasugrel among patients under the age of 75 years (hazard ratio, 0.85; 95% CI, 0.72 to 1.00; P=0.04). Rates of severe and intracranial bleeding were similar in the two groups in all age groups. There was no significant between-group difference in the frequency of nonhemorrhagic serious adverse events, except for a higher frequency of heart failure in the clopidogrel group. CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with unstable angina or myocardial infarction without ST-segment elevation, prasugrel did not significantly reduce the frequency of the primary end point, as compared with clopidogrel, and similar risks of bleeding were observed. Abstract

Mobile and Ubiquitous computing have increased the need for mobile users to expect accessing preferred services, whenever they want and wherever they are. Users do not have to explicitly specify and configure their working environment each time they move from one location to another. The necessary adaptation to cope with the changing environment should be initiated by services rather than by users. This paper presents a context-aware platform for supporting mobile users with personalized services. The platform is capable of handling different types of context sources (i.e. sensors, readers, agents), offers sophisticated mechanisms in matching the mobile user's preferences with services that are enabled at the visited location, and provides these services in personalized and adaptive manner to the user conditions. As a proof of concept, we present an context sensitive instant messaging prototype where a user is provided with services and information of interest based on location and time. The platform monitors a set of policies to dynamically adapt each application behavior to the situation of its use.

Abstract

The encounter of Deep Impact with comet 9P/Tempel 1 led to an unprecedented coordinated observational ground-based observing campaign which attracted many non-specialists. This paper discusses aspects of observational accuracy achieved by untrained observers using standard CCD cameras at 0.5 and 1-m class telescopes in South Africa and Chile. Our experience illustrates that calibrated photometry of comets cannot be accomplished without dedicated observing.

Abstract

We have made an asteroseismic analysis of the variable blue stragglers in the open cluster M67. The data set consists of photometric time series from eight sites using nine 0.6-2.1 meter telescopes with a time baseline of 43 days. In two stars, EW Cnc and EX Cnc, we detect the highest number of frequencies (41 and 26) detected in delta Scuti stars belonging to a stellar cluster, and EW Cnc has the second highest number of frequencies detected in any delta Scuti star. We have computed a grid of pulsation models that take the effects of rotation into account. The distribution of observed and theoretical frequencies show that in a wide frequency range a significant fraction of the radial and non-radial low-degree modes are excited to detectable amplitudes. Despite the large number of observed frequencies we cannot constrain the fundamental parameters of the stars. Abstract

We derive the orbital period and monitor in detail the eclipses of two deep-southern double-lined eclipsing binaries of considerable interest. We present new uvby photometry over more than 100 nights for V883 Cen, scan for the first time the eclipses of η Mus and analyse the data for these two systems together with earlier published photometry. We also add information from high-dispersion spectra. V883 Cen consists of two sharp-lined, mid-B-type stars in an orbit of 35.44733 d. The slower rotating component, Prot= 55.215 d, is a chemically peculiar star of the type He-weak SrTi that is partially eclipsed by its slightly more massive companion. Owing to the high eccentricity of the orbit and its orientation, only one eclipse occurs. The orbital period of η Mus is 57.5 h, rather than the 20 d quoted up to the present in the literature. That close binary, consisting of two late-B-type stars, shows identical partial eclipses. Interest in the close binary is triggered by the pre-main-sequence companion at 2.7 arcsec. HD 118978, one of the comparison stars used for V883 Cen, is identified as a new variable. This fast-rotating B9 (sub)giant belongs presumably to the class of slowly pulsating B-type stars.

Abstract

We report on an ambitious multi-site campaign aimed at detecting stellar variability, particularly solar-like oscillations, in the red giant stars in the open cluster M67 (NGC 2682). During the six-week observing run, which comprised 164 telescope nights, we used nine 0.6-m to 2.1-m class telescopes located around the world to obtain uninterrupted time-series photometry. We outline here the data acquisition and reduction, with emphasis on the optimisation of the signal-to-noise of the low amplitude (50-500 micromag) solar-like oscillations. This includes a new and efficient method for obtaining the linearity profile of the CCD response at ultra high precision (~10 parts per million). The noise in the final time series is 0.50 mmag per minute integration for the best site, while the noise in the Fourier spectrum of all sites combined is 20 micromag. 22. Evolution of wind energy pricing policies in France: Opportunities and new challenges

Abstract

The wind energy market is in continuous development since the last decade. This market accounts more than 600 GW of installed wind turbines in 2018, with 14 GW of onshore wind turbines installed in France. With the new Act of 17 August 2015 on energy transition for green growth, France committed fully to energy transformation, with an objective of national renewable energy share of 35% in 2030. Thus, incentives and many provisions were applied to enhance public and private investments in mature renewable energy sources. Within these energy sources, the wind energy market gets a new twist in pricing policies and new actors have emerged. The purpose of this paper is to describe the current state of art of pricing policies and describe the role of the industry’s recent actors (wind farm managers and manufacturers, aggregators, CRE…). Abstract

Over the last couple of years we carried out long-term CCD monitoring of open clusters and associations with as principal goal the detection and study of pulsating stars. A by-product of this project is the serendipitous collection of multicolour photometry of most interesting compact binaries which show signs of activity, viz. variable periods and strongly variable light curves. This presentation illustrates the project, and concentrates on intriguing species of interacting binaries in NGC 6231.

25. Production d’électricité verte via une plante vivante ‘Watsonia sp’ dans la pile à combustible microbienne

Abstract

Les piles microbiennes à plante (PMP), sont des systèmes bioélectrochimiques très prometteurs pour la génération d’une énergie verte renouvelable et durable. Dans la présente étude, la possibilité de générer de la bioélectricité à partir de l’énergie solaire et de la biomasse a été démontrée, sur les principes de l’activité biologique du sol en utilisant une plante vivante Watsonia sp cueillie du jardin du CDER. Le suivi de la génération de la bioélectricité en présence de la plante nous a permis d’enregistrer un rendement de 90 % plus important par rapport à celui généré en son absence. Une production de courant atteignant 0.1 mA est obtenue dans les conditions d’ensoleillement. Des pics des valeurs les plus élevées du courant, sont enregistrés aux moments d’intensité lumineuse importante de la journée (entre 12 h -14 h), ce qui a été confirmé par la réduction de la tension de plus de 30% quand Watsonia sp était placée à l’éclairage du laboratoire. La plante Watsonia sp présente donc un excellent outil biologique pour la production de la bioélectricité. Le rendement en courant peut être augmenté en optimisant les conditions physico-chimiques (sol, pH, température, nutriments….) et électrochimiques (matériaux des électrodes) ou en adoptant une autre espèce de plante.

Abstract

Photo-based dietary assessment is becoming more feasible as artificial intelligence methods improve. However, advancement of these methods for dietary assessment in research settings has been hindered by the lack of an appropriate dataset against which to benchmark algorithm performance. We conducted the Surveying Nutrient Assessment with Photographs of Meals (SNAPMe) study (ClinicalTrials ID: NCT05008653) to pair meal photographs with traditional food records. Participants were recruited nationally, and 110 enrollment meetings were completed via web-based video conferencing. Participants uploaded and annotated their meal photos using a mobile phone app called Bitesnap and completed food records using the Automated Self-Administered 24-h Dietary Assessment Tool (ASA24®) version 2020. Participants included photos before and after eating non-packaged and multi-serving packaged meals, as well as photos of the front and ingredient labels for single-serving packaged foods. The SNAPMe Database (DB) contains 3311 unique food photos linked with 275 ASA24 food records from 95 participants who photographed all foods consumed and recorded food records in parallel for up to 3 study days each. The use of the SNAPMe DB to evaluate ingredient prediction demonstrated that the publicly available algorithms FB Inverse Cooking and Im2Recipe performed poorly, especially for single-ingredient foods and beverages. Correlations between nutrient estimates common to the Bitesnap and ASA24 dietary assessment tools indicated a range in predictive capacity across nutrients (cholesterol, adjusted R2 = 0.85, p < 0.0001; food folate, adjusted R2 = 0.21, p < 0.05). SNAPMe DB is a publicly available benchmark for photo-based dietary assessment in nutrition research. Its demonstrated utility suggested areas of needed improvement, especially the prediction of single-ingredient foods and beverages.

Dairy products are a good source of essential nutrients and past reviews have shown associations of dairy consumption with decreased systemic inflammation. Links between dairy intake and gastrointestinal (GI) inflammation are under-investigated. Therefore, we examined associations between reported dairy intake and markers of GI inflammation in healthy adults in a cross-sectional observational study, hypothesizing a negative association with yogurt intake, suggesting a protective effect, and no associations with total dairy, fluid milk, and cheese intake. Participants completed 24-h dietary recalls and a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) to assess recent and habitual intake, respectively. Those who also provided a stool sample (n = 295), and plasma sample (n = 348) were included in analysis. Inflammation markers from stool, including calprotectin, neopterin, and myeloperoxidase, were measured along with LPS-binding protein (LBP) from plasma. Regression models tested associations between dairy intake variables and inflammation markers with covariates: age, sex, and body mass index (BMI). As yogurt is episodically consumed, we examined differences in inflammation levels between consumers (>0 cup equivalents/day reported in recalls) and non-consumers. We found no significant associations between dairy intake and markers of GI inflammation. In this cohort of healthy adults, dairy intake was not associated with GI inflammation.

Abstract

Lactase persistence (LP) is a trait in which lactose can be digested throughout adulthood, while lactase non-persistence (LNP) can cause lactose intolerance and influence dairy consumption. One single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP ID: rs4988235) is often used as a predictor for dairy intake, since it is responsible for LP in people in European descent, and can occur in other ethnic groups. The objective of this study was to determine whether rs4988235 genotypes and ethnicity influence reported dairy consumption in the United States (U.S.). A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and multiple Automated Self-Administered 24-h recalls (ASA24®) were used to measure habitual and recent intake, respectively, of total dairy, cheese, cow’s milk, plant-based alternative milk, and yogurt in a multi-ethnic U.S. cohort genotyped for rs4988235. Within Caucasian subjects, LP individuals reported consuming more recent total dairy and habitual total cow’s milk intake. For subjects of all ethnicities, LP individuals consumed more cheese (FFQ p = 0.043, ASA24 p = 0.012) and recent total dairy (ASA24 p = 0.005). For both dietary assessments, Caucasians consumed more cheese than all non-Caucasians (FFQ p = 0.036, ASA24 p = 0.002) independent of genotype, as well as more recent intake of yogurt (ASA24 p = 0.042). LP subjects consumed more total cow’s milk than LNP, but only when accounting for whether subjects were Caucasian or not (FFQ p = 0.015). Fluid milk and alternative plant-based milk consumption were not associated with genotypes or ethnicity. Our results show that both LP genotype and ethnicity influence the intake of some dairy products in a multi-ethnic U.S. cohort, but the ability of rs4988235 genotypes to predict intake may depend on ethnic background, the specific dairy product, and whether intake is reported on a habitual or recent basis. Therefore, ethnicity and the dietary assessment method should also be considered when determining the suitability of rs4988235 as a proxy for dairy intake.

30. Trans-scaphoid trans-lunate trans-triquetral volar perilunate dislocation: A case report.

Introduction: Translunate volar perilunate dislocations are extremely rare, with few documented cases. Only eight instances of volar translunate perilunate dislocation have been described in the literature. This report presents a successfully treated case using early reduction and internal fixation that led to a very satisfying outcome at 9 months follow-up., Case Report: A 20-year-old man presented with left wrist pain and swelling after a fall from a vehicle at 50 km/h, landing on an outstretched right hand. Radiographs and a CT scan identified scaphoid, lunate, and triquetral fractures, along with a volar perilunate dislocation. Surgical treatment was performed with a dorsal approach, including scaphoid and lunate fracture fixation, triquetral avulsion repair, and lunate stabilization with K-wires. The wrist was immobilized for 6 weeks, intense physical therapy started after K-wires removal. At 9 months follow-up, positive results were seen clinically and radiologically., Discussion: A perilunate fracture-dislocation includes dislocation of the carpus from the lunate. Johnson divided these injuries into lesser arc (pure ligamentous) and greater arc (fracture-related). Bain introduced the translunate arc concept in a case series of three patients, depicting a path through the lunate causing lunate fracture alongside perilunate injury. Treatment focuses on lunate reduction and fixation, combined with addressing greater and lesser arc injuries. Achieving successful lunate realignment and fixation is challenging. 31. Disastrous evolution of ollier disease: a rare case report.

Abstract

Ollier disease is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the development of multiple enchondromas. The clinical manifestations of the disease vary widely, but patients often present with bone deformities and an increased risk of developing chondrosarcoma. Here, the authors present a case report of a 25-year-old male patient with a devastating and historic evolution of Ollier disease., Case Presentation: At the age of 10, the patient developed a sub-centimeter mass in the first phalanx of the left middle finger, which subsequently grew in size. A biopsy was performed at the age of 14, which confirmed the diagnosis of chondroma. At the age of 14, the patient developed multiple large masses on the left hand, resulting in the amputation of his left hand. At 25 years old, the patient developed new masses in his contralateral hand and left foot., Discussion: Ollier disease is caused by somatic mutations in the PTH/PTHrP receptor gene, leading to the formation of multiple enchondromas. Patients with Ollier disease are at an increased risk of developing chondrosarcoma, which can be life-threatening. The diagnosis of Ollier disease is usually made based on clinical and radiographic findings, and genetic testing can confirm the diagnosis. Treatment is typically focused on managing the symptoms and preventing the development of chondrosarcoma., Conclusion: The authors presented a case report of a patient with a devastating and historic evolution of Ollier disease. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and management of this disease to prevent the development of chondrosarcoma and minimize the risk of complications. Abstract

Tudor domain containing protein 3 (TDRD3) is a modular protein identified based on its ability to recognize methylated arginine motifs through its Tudor domain. We have previously shown that TDRD3 localizes to cytoplasmic stress granules, a structure shown to promote survival upon treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs in cancer cells. Here, we report TDRD3 as a novel regulator of cell proliferation and invasion in breast cancer cells. Our study also demonstrates that TDRD3 depletion inhibits tumor formation and metastasis to the lung in vivo. Furthermore, we show that TDRD3 regulates the expression of a number of key genes associated with promotion of breast cancer tumorigenesis and disease progression. Strikingly, we report that TDRD3 regulates some of these key targets at the level of translation. These findings provide the first experimental demonstration of a functional role for TDRD3 in promoting breast cancer development and progression, and identify TDRD3 as a potential new therapeutic target for breast cancer.
