Abstract: Abstract We report a determination of the CKM angle ϕ 3, also known as γ, from a combination of measurements using samples of up to 711 fb −1 from the Belle experiment and up to 362 fb −1 from the Belle II experiment. We combine results from analyses of B + → DK +, B + → Dπ +, and B + → D * K + decays, where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ mesons, in a likelihood fit to obtain ϕ 3 = (75.2 ± 7.6) ° . We also briefly discuss the interpretation of this result.

Abstract: Moraxella catarrhalis commonly colonizes the upper respiratory tract of humans, but infection caused by M. catarrhalis after orthopedic surgery is rare. Here, we report the first case of septic arthritis of the shoulder caused by an M. catarrhalis infection and outline the diagnosis and treatment steps as well as differences compared with other cases.

Abstract: The western North Atlantic Ocean is strongly influenced by continental outflow, making it an ideal region to study the atmospheric transition from a polluted coastline to the marine environment. Utilizing eight transit flights between the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia, and the remote island of Bermuda from NASA's Aerosol Cloud meTeorology Interactions oVer the western ATlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE), we examine the evolution of trace gas and aerosol properties off the US East Coast. The first pair of flights flew along the wind trajectory of continental outflow, while the other flights captured a mix of marine and continental air mass sources. For measurements within the boundary layer (BL), there was an offshore decline in particle N, N>100 nm, CH4, CO, and CO2 concentrations, all leveling off around ∼900 km offshore from the LaRC. These trends are strongest for the first pair of flights. In the BL, offshore declines in organic mass fraction and increases in sulfate mass fraction coincide with increasing hygroscopicity based on f(RH) measurements. Free troposphere measurements show a decline in N, but other measured parameters are more variable when compared to the prominent offshore gradients seen in the BL. Pollution layers exist in the free troposphere, such as smoke plumes, that can potentially entrain into the BL. This work provides detailed case studies with a broad set of high-resolution measurements to further our understanding of the transition between continental and marine environments.

4. Teachers' Perceptions of Technical Affordances in Early Visual Arts Education

Abstract: This study aimed at exploring kindergarten teachers' perceptions and usage of digital devices in their classrooms. A multiple case study (n = 4) was conducted to investigate how in-service experienced (n = 22) and novice (n = 24) kindergarten teachers interpreted the functional significance of digital devices, including the needs and challenges faced when applying digital devices in visual arts activities in their classrooms. A non-randomised convenience sampling strategy was used to recruit four local kindergartens in Hong Kong, whose teachers were invited to participate in focus group interviews. In total, 540 min of interview data were collected. We examined the in-service teachers' perceptions of the affordances of digital devices in terms of (1) transparency, (2) challenge and (3) accessibility. Based on the teachers' responses in the interviews, the findings indicated issues related to the use of digital devices in terms of these three areas here. The informants shared how their understandings of film language limited their intentions and usage patterns (including frequency of use) with respect to digital videos. Nevertheless, they admitted that digital videos were important tools for facilitating children's learning and communication with their parents. This study reflects the current situation of technology education in Hong Kong, including how teacher educators perceive the usage and roles of digital videos in early arts education.

5. Benzodiazepine Adverse Reaction Cases Age 50 and Older Reported to the U.S. Poison Centers: Healthcare Use and Major Medical Effects

Abstract: Background: Despite widespread consensus on the need to reduce benzodiazepine (BZD) use in older adults, prescription rates in the U.S. have paradoxically increased over the past few decades. Objective: We examined (1) the characteristics of the BZD adverse reaction cases in patients aged 50 and older that were admitted to a healthcare facility (HCF) and experienced major effects/death, and (2) the associations between the concomitant use of opioids and/or antidepressants and HCF admission and major effects/death among BZD cases. Methods: We used the 2015–2022 National Poison Data System (NPDS), which contained data from 55 America’s Poison Centers. We fitted two multivariable logistic regression models to examine the associations between the co-use of opioids and/or antidepressants and HCF admission and major effects/death. Results: Of the BZD cases that were examined (N = 1979), 14.9% or 295 cases were admitted to healthcare facilities, and 8.5% of those who were followed up (77 out of 893 cases) experienced major effects or death. The number of co-used substances, co-use of opioids and antidepressants, atypical antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, muscle relaxants, and Gabapentin were associated with greater odds of healthcare admission. Co-use of opioids and healthcare admission were associated with greater odds of major effects/death. Conclusions: Adverse reactions and healthcare admissions are likely to be prevented when healthcare providers limit and carefully monitor BZD prescribing, especially for those who are on other medications, including prescription opioids and antidepressants.

6. Vertical variability of aerosol properties and trace gases over a remote marine region: a case study over Bermuda

Abstract: Remote marine regions comprise a high fraction of Earth's surface, but in situ vertically resolved measurements over these locations remain scarce. Here we use airborne data during 15 vertical spiral soundings (0.15–8.5 km) over Bermuda during the NASA Aerosol Cloud meTeorology Interactions over the western ATlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) to investigate the impact of different source regions on the vertical structure of trace gases, aerosol particles, and meteorological variables over 1000 km offshore of the US East Coast. Results reveal significant differences in vertical profiles of variables between three different air mass source categories (North America, Ocean, Caribbean/North Africa) identified using the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model: (i) the strongest pollution signature is from air masses from the North America category, while the weakest one is from the Ocean category; (ii) North America air has the highest levels of CO, CH4, submicron particle number concentration, aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) mass, and organic mass fraction along with smoke layers in the free troposphere (FT); (iii) Ocean air has the highest relative amount of nitrate, non-sea-salt sulfate, and oxalate, which are key acidic species participating in chloride depletion; (iv) air masses from the Caribbean/North Africa showed a pronounced coarse aerosol signature in the FT and reduced aerosol hygroscopicity, which is associated with dust transport; and (v) there is considerable vertical heterogeneity for almost all variables examined, including higher O3 and submicron particle concentrations with altitude, suggesting that the FT is a potential contributor of both constituents in the marine boundary layer. This study highlights the importance of considering air mass source origin and vertical resolution to capture aerosol and trace gas properties over remote marine areas.

Abstract: Abstract The strongest gamma-ray burst (GRB) of the century, GRB20221009A, has been detected by the Korean Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter Gamma-ray Spectrometer (KGRS) instrument onboard the Korean Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO). KGRS uses a LaBr3 detector to measure GRB counts with five energy bins in the energy range from 30 keV to 12 MeV. KGRS detected GRB221009A at a distance of 1.508 million kilometers from the Earth. The full duration of the main burst was recorded between 13:20 and 13:26 on October 9, 2022 with peak counts of over 1000 times background. The dead time of KGRS reached as high as 50%, and the intrinsic gamma-ray spectrum of LaBr3 was significantly altered.

Abstract: Abstract Background The field of long COVID research is rapidly evolving, however, tools to assess and monitor symptoms and recovery of the disease are limited. The objective of the present study was to develop a new patient-reported outcomes instrument, the Symptoms Evolution of Long COVID‑19 (SE-LC19), and establish its content validity. Methods The 40-item SE-LC19 instrument was developed based on patient-relevant empirical evidence from scientific literature and clinical guidelines that reported symptoms specific to long COVID. A 2-part mixed-method approach was employed. Part 1: Qualitative interviews with a purposive sample of 41 patients with confirmed long COVID were conducted for the content validation of SE-LC19. During cognitive debriefing interviews, patients were asked to describe their understanding of the instrument’s instructions, specific symptoms, response options, and recall period to ensure its relevance and comprehensiveness. Five clinicians of different medical specialties who regularly treated patients with long COVID were also interviewed to obtain their clinical expert opinions on SE-LC19. Part 2: Exploratory Rasch Measurement Theory (RMT) analysis was conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties of the SE-LC19 data collected during the interviews. Results Overall, patients reported that the instructions, questions, recall period, and response options for SE-LC19 were comprehensive and relevant. Minor conceptual gaps reported by patients captured nuances in the experience of some symptoms that could be considered in future studies. Some patients suggested a revision of the recall period from 24 h to 7 days to be able to capture more symptoms given the waxing and waning nature of some symptoms. Clinicians found the instrument comprehensive with minimal suggestions regarding its content. Exploratory RMT analyses provided evidence that the SE-LC19 questionnaire performed as intended. Conclusion The present mixed-methods study in patients with confirmed long COVID supports the content validity and applicability of the SE-LC19 instrument to evaluate the symptoms of patients with long COVID. Further research is warranted to explore the psychometric properties of the instrument and refine a meaningful and robust patient-relevant endpoint for use in different settings such as clinical trials and clinical practice to track the onset, severity, and recovery of long COVID.

Abstract: Abstract Background Pinus koraiensis cone essential oil (PEO) contains functional compounds such as monoterpene hydrocarbons, and the administration of PEO reduced methane (CH4) emissions during growing phase of goats. However, the mode of action of PEO driven CH4 reduction is not known, especially how the administration of PEO can affect rumen microbiota and host metabolism in goats during the fattening phase. This study aimed to elucidate the potential microbial and host responses PEO supplementation in goats using metataxonomics (prokaryotes and protozoa) and metabolomics (rumen fluid and serum). Results Ten fattening Korean native goats were divided into two dietary groups: control (CON; basal diet without additives) and PEO (basal diet + 1.5 g/d of PEO) with a 2 × 2 crossover design and the treatment lasted for 11 weeks. Abstract: Abstract The SHiP-charm project was proposed to measure the associated charm production induced by 400 GeV/c protons in a thick target, including the contribution from cascade production. An optimisation run was performed in July 2018 at CERN SPS using a hybrid setup. The high resolution of nuclear emulsions acting as vertex detector was complemented by electronic detectors for kinematic measurements and muon identification. Here we present first results on the analysis of nuclear emulsions exposed in the 2018 run, which prove the capability of reconstructing proton interaction vertices in a harsh environment, where the signal is largely dominated by secondary particles produced in hadronic and electromagnetic showers within the lead target.

11. Impact of USMLE Pass/Fail Step 1 Scoring on Current Medical Students

Abstract: OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to examine students’ perceptions of pass/fail scoring for Step 1, particularly when applying to competitive specialties. This study also investigated whether this transition increased anxiety among medical students and elicited student perspectives on the most critical components of residency applications. INTRODUCTION The United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1 Board Exam transitioned from a traditional numeric score to pass/fail for exams taken on or after January 26, 2022. One justification for this change, according to a statement from USMLE, was to ease the transition between undergraduate and graduate medical education. Although many factors are considered when selecting candidates to interview for residency, Step 1 scores were historically used as an important metric. Few studies specifically evaluated medical student's attitudes toward the change in Step 1 grading. METHODS An online survey was distributed to Penn State College of Medicine medical students in the 2024 to 2027 classes. Statistical analysis was conducted on responses to research plans, attitudes regarding Step 1 pass/fail, match rates, and importance of application components. RESULTS There was a 21.3% response rate (127/596) to the survey with 30.7% pursuing a competitive specialty. Abstract: IntroductionDespite progress in our understanding of disease pathogenesis for systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD), these diseases are still associated with high morbidity, disability, and mortality. Much of the strongest evidence to date implicating environmental factors in the development of autoimmunity has been based on well-established, large, longitudinal prospective cohort studies.MethodsHerein, we review the current state of knowledge on known environmental factors associated with the development of SARD and potential areas for future research.ResultsThe risk attributable to any particular environmental factor ranges from 10-200%, but exposures are likely synergistic in altering the immune system in a complex interplay of epigenetics, hormonal factors, and the microbiome leading to systemic inflammation and eventual organ damage. To reduce or forestall the progression of autoimmunity, a better understanding of disease pathogenesis is still needed.ConclusionOwing to the complexity and multifactorial nature of autoimmune disease, machine learning, a type of artificial intelligence, is increasingly utilized as an approach to analyzing large datasets. Future studies that identify patients who are at high risk of developing autoimmune diseases for prevention trials are needed.

13. Archery after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty

Abstract: Background: Archery, a popular recreational activity, puts strain on the shoulder girdle. rTSA indications are expanding, thus it is necessary to further understand return to sports such as archery. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on patients undergoing primary rTSA with a minimum of 6-month follow-up. Demographic and surgical data was collected. Return to archery metrics included utilization of vertical vs. crossbow, ability to return to archery, presence of pain and instability during archery, modification of archery technique, and reason for lack of return to sport. VAS and ASES scores were obtained. Results: 13 patients self-reported routinely participating in archery before undergoing rTSA. Seven participants (53.8 %) with a mean age of 69.7 years ( ± 6.32 years), returned to sport postoperatively. Four of these seven participants indicated that they switched to using a crossbow to return to the sport. Average VAS score was 1.85 ( ± 0.34, range 0–6). Only one participant returning to the sport had surgery on their dominant arm. Conclusion: Return to archery following rTSA is possible and more likely if the surgery is performed on the bow arm. Switching from a vertical to a crossbow alongside targeted physical therapy to strengthen the deltoid may help facilitate return to archery postoperatively. Level of evidence: III.

Abstract: We present a case of cardiogenic shock secondary to refractory polymorphic ventricular tachycardia associated with coronary ischemia resulting in cardiac arrest. Following the return of spontaneous circulation, the patient was cannulated for peripheral venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) in anticipation of high-risk “protected” percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Under full V-A ECMO support, inotropes and vasopressors were weaned off, and the patient underwent uneventful PCI of left circumflex and obtuse marginal lesions. After 48 hours, the patient was decannulated and could be discharged home alive 16 days after his initial cardiac arrest.

Abstract: Mesoscale organization of marine convective clouds into linear or clustered states is prevalent across the tropical and subtropical oceans, and its investigation served as a guiding focus for a series of process study flights conducted as part of the Aerosol Cloud meTeorology Interactions oVer the western ATlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) during summer 2020, 2021, and 2022. These select ACTIVATE flights involved a novel strategy for coordinating two aircraft, with respective remote sensing and in situ sampling payloads, to probe regions of organized shallow convection for several hours. The main purpose of this measurement report is to summarize the aircraft sampling approach, describe the characteristics and evolution of the cases, and provide an overview of the datasets that can serve as a starting point for more detailed modeling and analysis studies. Six flights are described, involving a total of 80 dropsonde profiles that capture the environment surrounding clustered shallow convection. The flights include detailed observations of the vertical structure of cloud systems, comprising up to 20 in situ sampling levels. Four cases involved deepening convection rooted in the marine boundary layer that developed vertically to 2–5 km with varying precipitation amounts, while two cases captured more complex and developed cumulus congestus systems extending above 5 km. In addition to the thermodynamic and dynamic characterization afforded by dropsonde and in situ measurements, the datasets include cloud and aerosol microphysics, trace gas concentrations, aerosol and droplet composition, and cloud and aerosol remote sensing from high-spectral-resolution lidar and polarimetry.

Abstract: Abstract We report results from a study of B ± → DK ± decays followed by D decaying to the CP-even final state K + K − and CP-odd final state K S 0 π 0 $$ {K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ states. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle ϕ 3. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of 198 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure the CP asymmetries to be A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ = (+12.5 ± 5.8 ± 1.4)% and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− = (−16.7 ± 5.7 ± 0.6)%, and the ratios of branching fractions to be R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP+ = 1.164 ± 0.081 ± 0.036 and R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP− = 1.151 ± 0.074 ± 0.019. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5 standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3% confidence intervals of (8.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 16.5 ° ) or (84.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 95.5 ° ) or (163.3 ° < ϕ 3 < 171.5 ° ) and 0.321 < r B < 0.465.

Abstract: The Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) measures column-average mole fractions of several greenhouse gases (GHGs), beginning in 2004, from over 30 current or past measurement sites around the world using solar absorption spectroscopy in the near-infrared (near-IR) region. TCCON GHG data have been used extensively for multiple purposes, including in studies of the carbon cycle and anthropogenic emissions, as well as to validate and improve observations from space-based sensors. Here, we describe an update to the retrieval algorithm used to process the TCCON near-IR solar spectra and to generate the associated data products. This version, called GGG2020, was initially released in April 2022. It includes updates and improvements to all steps of the retrieval, including but not limited to the conversion of the original interferograms into spectra, the spectroscopic information used in the column retrieval, post hoc air mass dependence correction, and scaling to align with the calibration scales of in situ GHG measurements. All TCCON data are available through https://tccondata.org/ (last access: 22 April 2024) and are hosted on CaltechDATA (https://data.caltech.edu/, last access: 22 April 2024). Each TCCON site has a unique DOI for its data record. An archive of all the sites' data is also available with the DOI https://doi.org/10.14291/TCCON.GGG2020 (Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) Team, 2022). The hosted files are updated approximately monthly, and TCCON sites are required to deliver data to the archive no later than 1 year after acquisition. Abstract: Abstract JSNS $$^2$$ 2 (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) is an experiment that searches for sterile neutrinos via the observation of $$\bar{\nu }_{\mu } \rightarrow \bar{\nu }_{e}$$ ν ¯ μ → ν ¯ e appearance oscillations using muon decay-at-rest neutrinos. Abstract: Chloride (Cl−) displacement from sea salt particles is an extensively studied phenomenon with implications for human health, visibility, and the global radiation budget. Past works have investigated Cl− depletion over the northwest Atlantic (NWA); however, an updated, multi-seasonal, and geographically expanded account of sea salt reactivity over the region is needed. This study uses chemically resolved mass concentrations and meteorological data from the airborne Aerosol Cloud meTeorology Interactions oVer the western ATlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) to quantify seasonal, spatial, and meteorological trends in Cl− depletion and to explore the importance of quantifying (1) non-sea salt sources of Na+ and (2) mass concentrations of lost Cl− (instead of relative amounts displaced). Lost Cl− mass concentrations are lowest in December–February and March, moderate around Bermuda in June, and highest in May (median losses of 0.04, 0.04, 0.66, and 1.76 µg m−3, respectively), with losses in May that are high enough to potentially accelerate tropospheric oxidation rates. Inorganic acidic species can account for all Cl− depletion in December–February, March, and June near Bermuda but none of the lost Cl− in May, suggesting that organic acids may be of importance for Cl− displacement in certain months. Contributions of dust to Na+ are not important seasonally but may cause relevant overestimates of lost Cl− in smoke and dust plumes. Higher percentages of Cl− depletion often do not correspond to larger mass concentrations of lost Cl−, so it is highly recommended to quantify the latter to place depletion reactions in context with their role in atmospheric oxidation and radiative forcing.

20. Towards an understanding of the biopsychosocial determinants of CVD in SLE: a scoping review

Abstract: Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune condition with significant physical, mental, psychosocial and economic impacts. A main driver of SLE morbidity and mortality is cardiovascular disease (CVD). Both SLE and CVD exhibit disparities related to gender, race and other social dimensions linked with biological outcomes and health trajectories. However, the biospsychosocial dimensions of CVD in SLE populations remain poorly understood. The objective of this study was to systematically investigate the existing literature around known social factors influencing the development of CVD in SLE.Methods A scoping review protocol was developed according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping reviews guidelines. The search strategy encompassed three main concepts: SLE, CVD and social factors. Four databases were searched (PubMed, SCOPUS, PsychINFO and CINAHL). 682 studies were identified for screening. Articles were screened in two phases (title/abstract and full text) to determine whether they fulfilled the selection criteria.Results Nine studies were included after screening. All were conducted in the USA between 2009 and 2017. Six studies (67%) were cross-sectional and three (33%) were longitudinal. Most employed SLE cohorts (n=7, 78%) and two drew from healthcare databases (n=2; 22%). We identified five main themes encompassing social factors: socioeconomic status and education (n=5; 56%), race and/or ethnicity (n=7; 78%), mental health (n=2; 22%), gender (n=3; 33%) and healthcare quality and/or insurance (n=2; 22%). Overall, low income, fewer years of education, black race and/or ethnicity, depression, male gender, lack of insurance and healthcare fragmentation were all associated with CVD risk factors and outcomes in SLE.Conclusions While several social factors contribute to CVD in SLE populations, considerable gaps remain as many social determinants remain un(der)explored. There is rich opportunity to integrate social theory, advance conceptualisations of race and/or ethnicity and gender, expand investigations of mental health and explore novel geographical contexts. In healthcare policy and practice, identified social factors should be considered for SLE populations during decision-making and treatment, and education resources should be targeted for these groups.

Abstract: Splicing factor 3b subunit 1 (SF3B1) is the largest subunit and core component of the spliceosome. Inhibition of SF3B1 was associated with an increase in broad intron retention (IR) on most transcripts, suggesting that IR can be used as a marker of spliceosome inhibition in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. Furthermore, we separately analyzed exonic and intronic mapped reads on annotated RNA-sequencing transcripts obtained from B cells (n = 98 CLL patients) and healthy volunteers (n = 9). We measured intron/exon ratio to use that as a surrogate for alternative RNA splicing (ARS) and found that 66% of CLL-B cell transcripts had significant IR elevation compared with normal B cells (NBCs) and that correlated with mRNA downregulation and low expression levels. Transcripts with the highest IR levels belonged to biological pathways associated with gene expression and RNA splicing. A >2-fold increase of active pSF3B1 was observed in CLL-B cells compared with NBCs. Additionally, when the CLL-B cells were treated with macrolides (pladienolide-B), a significant decrease in pSF3B1, but not total SF3B1 protein, was observed. These findings suggest that IR/ARS is increased in CLL, which is associated with SF3B1 phosphorylation and susceptibility to SF3B1 inhibitors. These data provide additional support to the relevance of ARS in carcinogenesis and evidence of pSF3B1 participation in this process.

Abstract: Background and aim: Gut microbiota influences energy homeostasis in part through circulating hormones. Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP)-2 is a biomarker whose increase in systemic circulation is associated with positive effects on body weight and metabolism. In a recent clinical trial, probiotic Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus HA-114 supplementation showed positive effects on eating behaviors and insulin resistance in overweight participants undergoing a weight-loss intervention. In this context, this ancillary study aimed at assessing the impact of L. rhamnosus HA-114 supplementation on plasma IGFBP-2 levels in these individuals, and whether this modulation correlated with changes in fat mass, energy metabolism, and eating behaviors. Methods: Fasting plasma IGFBP-2 concentrations were quantified in 100 overweight or obese men and women enrolled in a 12-week diet-based weight reduction program (−500 kcal/day), in combination with probiotic L. rhamnosus HA-114 or placebo supplementation. Baseline and changes in circulating IGFBP-2 concentrations were correlated with anthropometric parameter, glucose and lipid metabolism, cardiorespiratory function and eating behaviors. Results: On average, the intervention reduced BMI by 4.6 % and increased IGFBP-2 by 13 %, regardless of supplementation group. Abstract: Abstract We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) → ℓ ∓ τ ± (ℓ = e, μ) decays using a 25 fb −1 Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ( B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ ) at 90% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits: B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S) → μ ∓ τ ± ) < 0.23 × 10 −6 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S) → e ∓ τ ± ) < 1.12 × 10 −6.

Abstract: Abstract BRAF mutations are associated with a small number of hematologic malignancies, including hairy cell leukemia and histiocytic disorders. In addition, BRAF mutations have also been detected in low frequency in other B‐cell lymphomas, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia and diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma, but never in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). We present a case of a 69‐year‐old female with classic MCL harboring a BRAFN581S mutation. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of any BRAF mutation in MCL.

Abstract: Increasing human-wild boar conflicts in South Korea have led to a demand for effective management strategies. Absolute abundance, rather than relative indices, is needed for the long-term monitoring and population control of wild boars. Indirect methods for density estimation have become increasingly popular because they are cost-effective and do not have the risk of capture probability bias. We compared three indirect methods, including the non-invasive capture-recapture model (NICRM), random encounter model (REM), and fecal standing crop (FSC), in two different sites characterized by specific habitats (urban and agricultural environments). NICRM and REM reflected population fluctuation and hunting intensity assumptions at both sites; however, FSC did not reflect the latter. While using NICRM, efforts are needed for achieving a low genotyping error rate; this model would achieve more reliable results in low-density areas. REM with accurate parameter information (i.e., daily range, detection zone, and camera placement) could be the most effective density estimation method for long-term monitoring in South Korean environments. Conversely, FSC may not be recommended because of many factors, such as decomposition rate, rainfall, biased distribution of feces that might affect pellet groups. Additionally, the density estimates from this study can provide information for developing effective management strategies in South Korean environments.

27. Impact of time-dependent data assimilation on ice flow model initialization and projections: a case study of Kjer Glacier, Greenland

Abstract: Ice sheet models are often initialized with data assimilation of present-day conditions, in which unknown model parameters are estimated using the inverse method. While assimilation of snapshot observations has been widely used for regional- and large-scale ice sheet simulations, data assimilation based on time-dependent data has recently started to emerge to constrain model parameters while capturing the transient evolution of the system. However, this method has been applied only to a few glaciers with fixed ice front positions, using spatially and temporally limited observations, and has not been applied to marine-terminating glaciers of the Greenland Ice Sheet that have been retreating over the last 30 years. In this study, we assimilate time series of surface velocity into a model of Kjer Glacier in West Greenland to better capture the observed acceleration over the past 3 decades. We compare snapshot and transient inverse methods and investigate the impact of initialization procedures on the parameters inferred, as well as model projections. We find that transient-calibrated simulations better capture past trends and better reproduce changes after the calibration period, even when a short period of observations is used. The results show the feasibility and clear benefits of a time-dependent data assimilation for initializing ice sheet models. This approach is now possible with the development of longer observational records, though it remains computationally challenging.

28. Behavioral evidence for global consciousness transcending national parochialism

Abstract: Abstract While national parochialism is commonplace, individual differences explain more variance in it than cross-national differences. Global consciousness (GC), a multi-dimensional concept that includes identification with all humanity, cosmopolitan orientation, and global orientation, transcends national parochialism. Across six societies (N = 11,163), most notably the USA and China, individuals high in GC were more generous allocating funds to the other in a dictator game, cooperated more in a one-shot prisoner’s dilemma, and differentiated less between the ingroup and outgroup on these actions. They gave more to the world and kept less for the self in a multi-level public goods dilemma. GC profiles showed 80% test–retest stability over 8 months. Implications of GC for cultural evolution in the face of trans-border problems are discussed.

Abstract: Background Cranial neuropathies (CN) are a rare neuropsychiatric SLE (NPSLE) manifestation. Previous studies reported that antibodies to the kinesin family member 20B (KIF20B) (anti-KIF20B) protein were associated with idiopathic ataxia and CN. We assessed anti-KIF20B as a potential biomarker for NPSLE in an international SLE inception cohort.Methods Individuals fulfilling the revised 1997 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) SLE classification criteria were enrolled from 31 centres from 1999 to 2011 and followed annually in the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus International Collaborating Clinics inception cohort. Anti-KIF20B testing was performed on baseline (within 15 months of diagnosis or first annual visit) samples using an addressable laser bead immunoassay. Logistic regression (penalised maximum likelihood and adjusting for confounding variables) examined the association between anti-KIF20B and NPSLE manifestations (1999 ACR case definitions), including CN, occurring over the first 5 years of follow-up.Results Of the 1827 enrolled cohort members, baseline serum and 5 years of follow-up data were available on 795 patients who were included in this study: 29.8% were anti-KIF20B-positive, 88.7% female, and 52.1% White. The frequency of anti-KIF20B positivity differed only for those with CN (n=10) versus without CN (n=785) (70.0% vs 29.3%; OR 5.2, 95% CI 1.4, 18.5). Compared with patients without CN, patients with CN were more likely to fulfil the ACR haematological (90.0% vs 66.1%; difference 23.9%, 95% CI 5.0%, 42.8%) and ANA (100% vs 95.7%; difference 4.3%, 95% CI 2.9%, 5.8%) criteria. In the multivariate analysis adjusting for age at baseline, female, White race and ethnicity, and ACR haematological and ANA criteria, anti-KIF20B positivity remained associated with CN (OR 5.2, 95% CI 1.4, 19.1).Conclusion Anti-KIF20B is a potential biomarker for SLE-related CN. Further studies are needed to examine how autoantibodies against KIF20B, which is variably expressed in a variety of neurological cells, contribute to disease pathogenesis.

Machine learning approaches open new possibilities for studying SLE, a multifactorial, highly heterogeneous and complex disease. Here, we discuss how machine learning methods are rapidly being integrated into the field of SLE research. Recent reports have focused on building prediction models and/or identifying novel biomarkers using both supervised and unsupervised techniques for understanding disease pathogenesis, early diagnosis and prognosis of disease. In this review, we will provide an overview of machine learning techniques to discuss current gaps, challenges and opportunities for SLE studies. External validation of most prediction models is still needed before clinical adoption. Utilisation of deep learning models, access to alternative sources of health data and increased awareness of the ethics, governance and regulations surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in medicine will help propel this exciting field forward.

31. Attentional Bias to Angry Faces: Contrasting Responses in Typically Developing Children and Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract: Introduction Human faces generally attract immediate attention. However, it has been found that children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tend to allocate relatively less attention to faces. Previous research showed that typically developing children (TD) exhibited an attentional bias to angry faces, regardless of their anxiety levels, but it’s unclear if this applies to children with ASD. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate attentional bias induced by angry and/or happy faces in children with ASD. Objectives We explored attentional bias toward angry faces in both TD children and children with ASD. We hypothesize that while TD children will show attentional capture effects in response to angry faces, children with ASD will not exhibit such attentional bias to facial stimuli, irrespective of their emotional content. Methods By now, five ASD participants (all male) and 34 TD participants (17 male), aged 6-12, have completed a continuous performance task. In this task, irrelevant distractors (angry or happy faces) appeared and disappeared abruptly, while the orientation of the target changed every 1,250 ms. Participants were asked to respond as quickly and accurately as possible to the orientaiton of the target. We designated the time when the distractor first appeared as T1, and subsequent time intervals at 1,250 ms increments were labeled as T2, T3, and T4. The time intervals when no distractor was present were labeled as TB (baseline). If the reaction time (RT) at T1 was significantly slower compared to TB, it indicated attentional bias by the distractor. Results For the RT data, separate repeated measures ANOVAs with 2 (emotion) * 5 (time) factors were conducted for each group. The results revealed a significant main effect of time (F(4, 132) = 17.59, p < .01) and a significant interaction between emotion and time (F(3.27, 107.74) = 4.92, p < .01) only in TD. Post hoc t-tests indicated that TD children exhibited significantly slower RT at T1 compared to TB, but this difference was observed only for angry faces (t(33) = 4.84, p < .01). In contrast, no significant effect was found in children with ASD. In other words, TD demonstrated attentional bias only when exposed to angry faces, while ASD children did not exhibit attentional bias to either emotion. Conclusions This study aimed to investigate attentional bias to angry faces in both TD and ASD children. The results indicate that TD children exhibited an attentional bias when exposed to angry faces, whereas ASD children did not display such bias. These findings are consistent with previous research suggesting that TD children tend to show attentional bias towards angry faces, regardless of their anxiety levels. Furthermore, the absence of attentional bias to angry faces in ASD suggests that their characteristic of reduced attention to faces may contribute to the lack of attentional bias towards angry faces. 32. Characterizing Tobacco Usage in Otolaryngology Patients to Target Smoking Cessation Efforts

Abstract: Objective Smoking cessation is critical in reducing incidence of head and neck cancers (HNC) and improving postoperative outcomes. Accurate documentation of tobacco usage is necessary to understand prevalence in patients to target smoking cessation. This study aims to characterize tobacco usage documentation, including electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) use, among otolaryngology patients. Study Design Retrospective chart review. Setting Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (PSHMC). Methods A retrospective chart review was conducted on adult otolaryngology patients seen from January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020. Patient demographics, details of alcohol and tobacco usage, including type of tobacco, and subspecialty seen were collected. Associations were evaluated using chi-square tests and a multivariable logistic regression model. Results Patients (n = 2137) were an average of 58.4 years old ±18.0, 59.3% female, and 78.0% white. Of participants with documented tobacco history (n = 944), 56.7% were never users, 28.9% were former users, and 14.4% were current users. Among current users (n = 308), 86.4% used cigarettes, and 5.2% used ENDS. The remainder used chew (4.9%) and cigars (3.25%). Odds of tobacco use were 1.5x greater for males (95% CI 1.19-2.00), 1.6x greater for unmarried patients (95% CI 1.24-2.09), 2.1x greater for those with no insurance vs government (95% CI 1.43-3.18), and 2.4x greater for those diagnosed with HNC (95% CI 1.64-3.49). Conclusion Most patients report cigarette smoking when asked about tobacco use. Taking into consideration the rise of ENDS use, our sample showed ENDS use that was higher than the national average. There is significant opportunity for improved history taking, especially within general and head and neck oncology subspecialties for more comprehensive treatment.

Abstract: In this study, based on the 2022 National Health and Aging Trend Study ( N = 5,593, age 65+), we examined direct associations between moderate and vigorous physical exercise (PE) and depressive/anxiety symptoms as well as bothersome pain and sleep problems. We then examined if the association between PE and depressive/anxiety symptoms would be partially mediated by the effects of PE on bothersome pain and sleep problems. Results from a path model showed that controlling for sociodemographic and health statuses, PE was negatively associated with depressive/anxiety symptoms and bothersome pain, but it was not significantly associated with sleep problems. The mediation analysis showed that 10% of the total effects of PE on depressive/anxiety symptoms was indirect effects of PE on bothersome pain. This study is important as it examined the associations among PE, pain, sleep, and depression/anxiety in community-dwelling older adults in their natural environments. Healthcare and social service providers for older adults need to emphasize the importance and benefits of PE for older adults’ physical and mental health. Easy access to venues for PE is also important.

Abstract: Cases of iatrogenic cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) have been increasingly reported recently, particularly those associated with neurosurgery. Preclinical studies have shown taxifolin to be promising for treating CAA. We describe a young 42-year-old man with a history of childhood traumatic brain injury that required a craniotomy for hematoma evacuation. He later presented with recurrent lobar intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) decades later, which was histologically confirmed to be CAA. Serial 11C-Pittsburgh compound B positron emission tomography (11C-PiB-PET) imaging showed a 24% decrease in global standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) at 10 months after taxifolin use. During this period, the patient experienced clinical improvement with improved consciousness and reduced recurrent ICH frequency, which may be partly attributable to the potential amyloid-β (Aβ) clearing the effect of taxifolin. However, this effect seemed to have diminished at 15 months, CAA should be considered in young patients presenting with recurrent lobar ICH with a history of childhood neurosurgery, and serial 11C-PiB-PET scans warrant further validation as a strategy for monitoring treatment response in CAA for candidate Aβ-clearing therapeutic agents such as taxifolin.

Abstract: Abstract Kondo impurities provide a nontrivial probe to unravel the character of the excitations of a quantum spin liquid. In the S = 1/2 Kitaev model on the honeycomb lattice, Kondo impurities embedded in the spin-liquid host can be screened by itinerant Majorana fermions via gauge-flux binding. Here, we report experimental signatures of metallic-like Kondo screening at intermediate temperatures in the Kitaev honeycomb material α-RuCl3 with dilute Cr3+ (S = 3/2) impurities. The static magnetic susceptibility, the muon Knight shift, and the muon spin-relaxation rate all feature logarithmic divergences, a hallmark of a metallic Kondo effect. Concurrently, the linear coefficient of the magnetic specific heat is large in the same temperature regime, indicating the presence of a host Majorana metal. This observation opens new avenues for exploring uncharted Kondo physics in insulating quantum magnets.

Abstract: Tropospheric vertical column densities (VCDs) of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) retrieved from sun-synchronous satellite instruments have provided abundant NO2 data for environmental studies, but such data are limited by retrieval uncertainties and insufficient temporal sampling (e.g., once a day). The Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) launched in February 2020 monitors NO2 at an unprecedented hourly resolution during the daytime. Here we present a research product for tropospheric NO2 VCDs, referred to as POMINO–GEMS (where POMINO is the Peking University OMI NO2 algorithm). We develop a hybrid retrieval method combining GEMS, TROPOMI (TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument) and GEOS-CF (Global Earth Observing System Composition Forecast) data to generate hourly tropospheric NO2 slant column densities (SCDs). We then derive tropospheric NO2 air mass factors (AMFs) with explicit corrections for surface reflectance anisotropy and aerosol optical effects through parallelized pixel-by-pixel radiative transfer calculations. Prerequisite cloud parameters are retrieved with the O2–O2 algorithm by using ancillary parameters consistent with those used in NO2 AMF calculations. The initial retrieval of POMINO–GEMS tropospheric NO2 VCDs for June–August 2021 exhibits strong hotspot signals over megacities and distinctive diurnal variations over polluted and clean areas. POMINO–GEMS NO2 VCDs agree with the POMINO–TROPOMI v1.2.2 product (R=0.98; NMB = 4.9 %) over East Asia, with slight differences associated with satellite viewing geometries and cloud and aerosol properties affecting the NO2 retrieval. POMINO–GEMS also shows good agreement with the following: OMNO2 (Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) NO2 Standard Product) v4 (R=0.87; NMB = −16.8 %); and GOME-2 (Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2) GDP (GOME Data Processor) 4.8 (R=0.83; NMB = −1.5 %) NO2 products. POMINO–GEMS shows small biases against ground-based MAX-DOAS (multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy) NO2 VCD data at nine sites (NMB = −11.1 %), with modest or high correlation in diurnal variation at six urban and suburban sites (R from 0.60 to 0.96). The spatiotemporal variation in POMINO–GEMS correlates well with mobile car MAX-DOAS measurements in the Three Rivers source region on the Tibetan Plateau (R=0.81). Surface NO2 concentrations estimated from POMINO–GEMS VCDs are consistent with measurements from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China for spatiotemporal variation (R=0.78; NMB = −26.3 %) and diurnal variation at all, urban, suburban and rural sites (R≥0.96). POMINO–GEMS data will be made freely available for users to study the spatiotemporal variations, sources and impacts of NO2.

Our results provide model-independent information on the unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3.

38. Assimilation of the AMSU-A radiances using the CESM (v2.1.0) and the DART (v9.11.13)–RTTOV (v12.3)

Abstract: To improve the initial condition (“analysis”) for numerical weather prediction, we attempt to assimilate observations from the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) on board the low-Earth-orbiting satellites. The data assimilation system, used in this study, consists of the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART) and the Community Earth System Model as the global forecast model. Based on the ensemble Kalman filter scheme, DART supports the radiative transfer model that is used to simulate the satellite radiances from the model state. To make the AMSU-A data available to be assimilated in DART, preprocessing modules are developed, which consist of quality control, spatial thinning, and bias correction processes. In the quality control, two sub-processes are included, outlier test and channel selection, depending on the cloud condition and surface type. The bias correction process is divided into scan-bias correction and air-mass-bias correction. Like input data used in DART, the observation errors are also estimated for the AMSU-A channels. In the trial experiments, a positive analysis impact is obtained by assimilating the AMSU-A observations on top of the DART data assimilation system that already makes use of the conventional measurements. In particular, the analysis errors are significantly reduced in the whole troposphere and lower stratosphere over the Northern Hemisphere. Overall, this study demonstrates a positive impact on the analysis when the AMSU-A observations are assimilated in the DART assimilation system.

Abstract: After rapid approval and installation, the SND@LHC Collaboration was able to gather data successfully in 2022 and 2023. Neutrino interactions from νμs originating at the LHC IP1 were observed. Since muons constitute the major background for neutrino interactions, the muon flux entering the acceptance was also measured. To improve the rejection power of the detector and to increase the fiducial volume, a third Veto plane was recently installed. The energy resolution of the calorimeter system was measured in a test beam. This will help with the identification of νe interactions that can be used to probe charm production in the pseudo-rapidity range of SND@LHC (7.2 < η < 8.4). Events with three outgoing muons have been observed and are being studied. With no vertex in the target, these events are very likely from muon trident production in the rock before the detector. Events with a vertex in the detector could be from trident production, photon conversion, or positron annihilation. To enhance SND@LHC’s physics case, an upgrade is planned for HL-LHC that will increase the statistics and reduce the systematics. The installation of a magnet will allow the separation of νμ from ν¯μ

Abstract: Abstract We present a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → ℓ ∓ τ ± , where ℓ = e, μ, using the full data sample of 121 fb −1 collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We use B s 0 B ¯ s 0 $$ {B}_s^0{\overline{B}}_s^0 $$ events in which one B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the other in the signal mode. We find no evidence for B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → ℓ ∓ τ ± decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level as B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ ( B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → e ∓ τ ± ) < 14 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ ( B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → μ ∓ τ ± ) < 7.3 × 10 −4. Our result represents the first upper limit on the B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → e ∓ τ ± decay rate.

Abstract: Abstract We report the first measurement of the inclusive e + e − → b b ¯ $$ b\overline{b} $$ → D s ± $$ {D}_s^{\pm } $$ X and e + e − → b b ¯ $$ b\overline{b} $$ → D 0 / D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ X cross sections in the energy range from 10.63 to 11.02 GeV. Based on these results, we determine σ(e + e − → B s 0 B ¯ s 0 $$ {B}_s^0{\overline{B}}_s^0 $$ X) and σ(e + e − → B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ X) in the same energy range. We measure the fraction of B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ events at Υ(10860) to be f s = ( 22.0 − 2.1 + 2.0 $$ {22.0}_{-2.1}^{+2.0} $$ )%. We determine also the ratio of the B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ inclusive branching fractions B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ ( B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → D 0 / D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ X)/ B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ ( B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → D s ± $$ {D}_s^{\pm } $$ X) = 0.416 ± 0.018 ± 0.092. The results are obtained using the data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider.

Abstract: Abstract We measure the cross section of e + e − → η c J/ψ at the Υ(nS)(n = 1–5) on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of 955 fb −1. We also search for double charmonium production in e + e − → η c J/ψ via initial state radiation near the η c J/ψ threshold. No evident signal of the double charmonium state is found, but evidence for the e + e − → η c J/ψ process is found with a statistical significance greater than 3.3σ near the η c J/ψ threshold. The average cross section near the threshold is measured and upper limits of cross sections are set for other regions.

Abstract: The NASA Aerosol Cloud meTeorology Interactions oVer the western ATlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) produced a unique dataset for research into aerosol–cloud–meteorology interactions, with applications extending from process-based studies to multi-scale model intercomparison and improvement as well as to remote-sensing algorithm assessments and advancements. ACTIVATE used two NASA Langley Research Center aircraft, a HU-25 Falcon and King Air, to conduct systematic and spatially coordinated flights over the northwest Atlantic Ocean, resulting in 162 joint flights and 17 other single-aircraft flights between 2020 and 2022 across all seasons. Data cover 574 and 592 cumulative flights hours for the HU-25 Falcon and King Air, respectively. The HU-25 Falcon conducted profiling at different level legs below, in, and just above boundary layer clouds (< 3 km) and obtained in situ measurements of trace gases, aerosol particles, clouds, and atmospheric state parameters. Under cloud-free conditions, the HU-25 Falcon similarly conducted profiling at different level legs within and immediately above the boundary layer. The King Air (the high-flying aircraft) flew at approximately ∼ 9 km and conducted remote sensing with a lidar and polarimeter while also launching dropsondes (785 in total). Collectively, simultaneous data from both aircraft help to characterize the same vertical column of the atmosphere. In addition to individual instrument files, data from the HU-25 Falcon aircraft are combined into “merge files” on the publicly available data archive that are created at different time resolutions of interest (e.g., 1, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 s, or matching an individual data product's start and stop times). This paper describes the ACTIVATE flight strategy, instrument and complementary dataset products, data access and usage details, and data application notes. 47. Suspected Suicide Attempt and Intentional Misuse Cases Aged 50+ Involving Amphetamine or Methylphenidate and Medical Outcomes: Associations with Co-Used Other Substances

Abstract: Introduction: Given the increasing adult use of amphetamine and methylphenidate and their high misuse potential, we examined suspected suicide attempts and other intentional misuse and medical outcomes and their associations with co-used other substances among amphetamine and methylphenidate exposure cases aged 50+. Methods: Using the 2015–2021 U.S. National Poison Data System (N = 7701 amphetamine and/or methylphenidate cases), we fit two generalized linear models for a Poisson distribution with a log link function, with suspected suicide attempt versus intentional misuse and major medical effect/death versus other outcomes as the dependent variables. Results: Of all amphetamine/methylphenidate exposure cases, suspected suicide attempts and intentional misuse were 28.4% and 13.2%, respectively. Benzodiazepine use was associated with a higher likelihood, but any illicit drug use was associated with a lower likelihood of suspected suicide attempts compared to intentional misuse. The type of stimulant involved (amphetamine or methylphenidate) was not significant. The co-use of antidepressants (IRR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.16–1.76), prescription opioids (IRR = 1.48, 95% CI = 1.21–1.81), drugs for cardiovascular disease (IRR = 1.51, 95% CI = 1.20–1.90), antipsychotics (IRR = 1.26, 95% CI = 1.02–1.55), or illicit drugs (IRR = 2.40, 95% CI = 1.82–3.15) was associated with a higher likelihood of major effect/death. Conclusions: Suspected suicide attempts or intentional misuse accounted for more than 40% of amphetamine or methylphenidate exposure cases aged 50+. The higher likelihood of major effect/death in cases involving antidepressants, antipsychotics, and cardiovascular disease drugs also suggests the confounding effects of comorbid mental and physical health problems. Abstract: Abstract Results are presented from a search for CP violation in top quark pair production, using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data used for this analysis consist of final states with two charged leptons collected by the CMS experiment, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb −1. The search uses two observables, O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ 1 and O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ 3, which are Lorentz scalars. The observable O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ 1 is constructed from the four-momenta of the charged leptons and the reconstructed top quarks, while O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ 3 consists of the four-momenta of the charged leptons and the b quarks originating from the top quarks. Asymmetries in these observables are sensitive to CP violation, and their measurement is used to determine the chromoelectric dipole moment of the top quark. The results are consistent with the expectation from the standard model.

Abstract: Abstract Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of τ lepton decays into a light charged lepton (ℓ = e ± or μ ± ) and a vector meson (V 0 = ρ 0, ϕ, ω, K *0, or K ¯ $$ \overline{K} $$ *0) using 980 fb −1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events is observed, and thus 90% credibility level upper limits are set on the τ → ℓV 0 branching fractions in the range of (1.7–4.3) × 10 −8. These limits are improved by 30% on average from the previous results.
