Abstract: Abstract The decays of the χb1(1P), χb2(1P), χb1(2P) and χb2(2P) mesons into the Υ(1S)μ+μ − final state are observed with a high significance using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb −1. The newly observed decays together with the Υ(2S) → Υ(1S)π+π − and Υ(3S) → Υ(2S)π+π − decay modes are used for precision measurements of the mass and mass splittings for the hidden-beauty states.

2. Phagocytosis and macrophage polarization on bacterially contaminated dental implant materials and effects on tissue integration

Abstract: Bacterial contamination is hard to avoid during dental implant surgery. Macrophages and their polarisation play a decisive role in bacterial colonisation and tissue integration on bacterially contaminated dental implants. The present study investigated the role of macrophages in stimulating tissue coverage overgrowth of contaminating oral bacteria on polished titanium (Ti-P) and acid-etched zirconium dioxide (ZrO2-MA) dental implant materials. Different co-culture models were employed to determine phagocytosis rates of Streptococcus mitis or Staphylococcus aureus contaminating a dental implant surface and the influence of contaminating bacteria and osteoblasts (U2OS) on macrophage polarisation. S. aureus was phagocytized in higher numbers than S. mitis in bi-cultures on smooth Ti-P surfaces. Contaminating S. mitis stimulated near full polarisation of macrophages from a non-Ym1-expressing- to a Ym1-expressing-phenotype on smooth Ti-P, but on ZrO2-MA both phenotypes occurred. In tri-cultures with U2OS-cells on smooth Ti-P, a larger percentage of macrophages remained in their non-Ym1-expressing, “fighting” M1-like phenotype to clear Ti-P surfaces from contaminating bacteria. On ZrO2-MA surfaces, more macrophages tended towards their “fix- and-repair” M2-like phenotype than on Ti-P surfaces. Surface coverage of smooth, bacterially contaminated Ti-P surfaces by U2OS-cells was more effectively stimulated by fighting, M1-like macrophages than on ZrO2-MA surfaces. Comprehensive guidelines are provided for the development of infection-resistant, dental implant materials, including bacteria, tissue and immune cells. These guidelines point to more promising results for clinical application of Ti-P as compared with ZrO2-MA.

3. Discovery and functional analysis of a new gene (Bm123) in silkworm (Bombyx mori)

Abstract: Previously our research group used the microarray analysis and suppression subtractive hybridization technologies to find a Bombyx mori resistance related gene (NCBI ID: NP_001153678.1) to B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) and the gene was named Bm123. But there are no more confirmatory studies about Bm123. In this study, BmNPV resistant strain NB, susceptible strain 306, hybrid group 306♀×NB♂ (resistant strain) and NB♀×306♂ (resistant strain) were analyzed by transcriptomic sequencing and Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Work Analysis (WGCNA) to verify the new gene Bm123 function. Correlation analysis between the WGCNA data and phenotype showed that Bm123 is a gene in ME Turquoise module. This module has a strong correlation with disease resistance phenotype (correlation coefficient is 0.753, P value is 0.0047), indicating that Bm123 is a correlated gene with anti-BmNPV. The full length of Bm123 gene was 691 bp, which is not similar with any sequences of other species in NCBI database. But the Bm123 protein contained the transcriptional activator (multiprotein bridge factor 2, MBF2) domain in the 34 to 122 amino acid sequence, closely to Tribolium castaneum by the evolutionary relationship analysis. The BmNPV resistance function, developmental expression pattern and tissue expression pattern of Bm123 were analyzed by using silkworm resistant strain BC10 (screened by eight backcross and two generation of NB and 306 through hybridization and selfing method, each generation is constructed from the feed by adding BmNPV), NB and sensitive strain 306. It was found that after infection with orally BmNPV, the mRNA and protein levels of Bm123 were up-regulated in the midgut of BC10 and NB, and almost not expressed in 306, indicating that Bm123 was a gene associated with resistance to BmNPV. Bm123 protein expression in various tissues of silkworm (fat body, hemolymph, midgut, epidermis, testis, ovary, malpighian tubule and silk gland) was analyzed. It was found that Bm123 was highly expressed in the midgut and malpighian tubule, while the expression in other tissues was lower. Analysis of Bm123 expression in different development stages of silkworm (eggs, 1st to 5th instar larvae, pupae and moth) found that the expression level of Bm123 increased in the 3rd, 4th and 5th instar. The expression level of Bm123 decreased during the pupae and moth stages. It was speculated that the expression of Bm123 was related to the evolution of resistance genes in silkworm. In situ hybridization showed that the Bm123 gene of BC10 was localized in the nucleus of columnar epithelial cells of the midgut, suggesting that Bm123 protein interacts with BmNPV in the silkworm cell nucleus.

4. Numerical simulation of explosive welding using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method

Abstract: In order to investigate the mechanism of explosive welding and the influences of explosive welding parameters on the welding quality, this paper presents numerical simulation of the explosive welding of Al-Mg plates using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method. The multi-physical phenomena of explosive welding, including acceleration of the flyer plate driven by explosive detonation, oblique collision of the flyer and base plates, jetting phenomenon and the formation of wavy interface can be reproduced in the simulation. The characteristics of explosive welding are analyzed based on the simulation results. The mechanism of wavy interface formation is mainly due to oscillation of the collision point on the bonding surfaces. In addition, the impact velocity and collision angle increase with the increase of the welding parameters, such as explosive thickness and standoff distance, resulting in enlargement of the interfacial waves.

Abstract: Abstract A search for the decay h c → π 0 J/ψ is performed using a sample of hc produced in the reaction e + e − → π + π − h c . The data samples were collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.189 and 4.437 GeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 11 fb −1. No significant signal is observed. Upper limits on the branching ratio B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → π 0 J/ψ)/ B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη c → γK + K − π 0) and on the branching fraction B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → π 0 J/ψ) are determined to be 7.5 × 10 −2 and 4.7 × 10 −4 at 90% confidence level, respectively. The latter is derived from the former using the measured branching fraction of the normalization channel. This is the first determination of the upper limit of the decay h c → π 0 J/ψ.

Abstract: Abstract Using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.32 fb −1 recorded by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV, an amplitude analysis of the decay D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ → π + π 0 π 0 is performed, and the relative fractions and phases of different intermediate processes are determined. The absolute branching fraction of the decay D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ → π + π 0 π 0 is measured to be (0.50 ± 0.04stat ± 0.02syst)%. The absolute branching fraction of the intermediate process D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ → f 0(980)π + , f 0(980) → π 0 π 0 is determined to be (0.28 ± 0.04stat ± 0.04syst)%.

Abstract: Abstract Using 448.1 × 106 ψ(3686) decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII e + e − storage rings, the branching fractions and angular distributions of the decays χ cJ → Ξ − Ξ ¯ $$ \overline{\Xi} $$ + and Ξ0 Ξ ¯ $$ \overline{\Xi} $$ 0 (J = 0, 1, 2) are measured based on a partial-reconstruction technique. The decays χ c1 → Ξ0 Ξ ¯ $$ \overline{\Xi} $$ 0 and χ c2 → Ξ0 Ξ ¯ $$ \overline{\Xi} $$ 0 are observed for the first time with statistical significances of 7σ and 15σ, respectively. The results of this analysis are in good agreement with previous measurements and have significantly improved precision.

10. Determination of atmospheric column condensate using active and passive remote sensing technology

Abstract: To further exploit atmospheric cloud water resources (CWRs), it is necessary to correctly evaluate the number of CWRs in an area. The CWRs are hydrometeors that have not participated in precipitation formation at the surface and are suspended in the atmosphere to be exploited and maximise possible precipitation in the atmosphere (Zhou et al., 2020). Three items are included in CWRs: the existing hydrometeors at a certain time, the influx of atmospheric hydrometeors along the boundaries of the study area, and the mass of hydrometeors converted from water vapour through condensation or desublimation, defined as condensate. Condensate constitutes the most important part of CWRs. At present, there is a lack of effective observation methods for atmospheric column condensate evaluation, and direct observation data of CWRs are thus insufficient. A detection method for atmospheric column condensate is proposed and presented. The formation of condensate is closely related to atmospheric meteorological parameters (e.g. temperature and vertical airflow velocity). The amount of atmospheric column condensate can be calculated by the saturated water vapour density and the ascending velocity at the cloud base and top. Active and passive remote sensing technologies are applied to detect the mass of atmospheric column condensate. Combining millimetre cloud radar, lidar and microwave radiometers can suitably observe the vertical velocity and temperature at the cloud boundary. The saturated vapour density can be derived from the temperature, and then, water vapour flux and the maximum possible condensate can be deduced. A detailed detection scheme and data calculation method are presented, and the presented method can realise the determination of atmospheric column condensate. A case of cloud layer change before precipitation is considered, and atmospheric column condensate is deduced and obtained. This is the first application, to our knowledge, of observations for atmospheric column condensate evaluation, which is significant for research on the hydrologic cycle and the assessment of CWRs.

11. Parametric Modeling of Microwave Structure with Customization Responses by Combining RBF Neural Network and Pole-Residue-Based Transfer Functions

Abstract: This paper proposed a parametric modeling technique for the microwave structures with a customization magnitude response by combining the RBF neural network and pole-residue-based transfer functions. The Latin hypercube sampling method is used for sampling given physical ranges and obtaining the EM behaviors of the microwave structures. A pole sorting process and a modified pole-residues splitting process are proposed to solve the pole sequence chaos and order-changing problems which occur in the modeling process. The pole-residues parameters after the above preprocessing steps are used as the inputs of the RBF neural network and the physical parameters are used as the outputs of RBF network. Then, the known magnitude response of the microwave structure are used as the prior knowledge to guide obtaining the goal pole-residues values corresponding to the giving magnitude response specification. After the training process of the RBF model, the goal pole-residues are input into the trained RBF network and the goal physical parameters corresponding to the customization responses is obtained. Finally, this model technique is illustrated by the two examples of microwave structures.

Abstract: Abstract By analyzing 4.48 × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we observe the decays χ cJ → nK S 0 Λ ¯ $$ {nK}_S^0\overline{\Lambda} $$ + c.c. (J = 0, 1, 2) for the first time, via the radiative transition ψ(3686) → γχ cJ . The branching fractions are determined to be (6.65 ± 0.26stat ± 0.41syst) × 10 −4, (1.66 ± 0.12stat ± 0.12syst) × 10 −4, and (3.58 ± 0.16stat ± 0.23syst) × 10 −4 for J = 0, 1, and 2, respectively.

Abstract: Abstract Using 1310.6 × 106 J/ψ and 448.1 × 106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the branching fractions of J/ψ decays to Σ+ Σ ¯ $$ \overline{\Sigma} $$ − is measured to be (10.61 ± 0.04 ± 0.36) × 10 −4, which is significantly more precise than the current world average. The branching fractions of ψ(3686) decays to Σ+ Σ ¯ $$ \overline{\Sigma} $$ − is measured to be (2.52 ± 0.04 ± 0.09) × 10 −4, which is consistent with the previous measurements. In addition, the ratio of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (ψ(3686) → Σ+ Σ ¯ $$ \overline{\Sigma} $$ − )/ B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (J/ψ → Σ+ Σ ¯ $$ \overline{\Sigma} $$ − ) is determined to be (23.8 ± 1.1)% which violates the “12% rule”.

14. LEVERAGING DYNAMIC OBJECTS FOR RELATIVE LOCALIZATION CORRECTION IN A CONNECTED AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE NETWORK

Abstract: High-accurate localization is crucial for the safety and reliability of autonomous driving, especially for the information fusion of collective perception that aims to further improve road safety by sharing information in a communication network of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV). In this scenario, small localization errors can impose additional difficulty on fusing the information from different CAVs. In this paper, we propose a RANSAC-based (RANdom SAmple Consensus) method to correct the relative localization errors between two CAVs in order to ease the information fusion among the CAVs. Different from previous LiDARbased localization algorithms that only take the static environmental information into consideration, this method also leverages the dynamic objects for localization thanks to the real-time data sharing between CAVs. Specifically, in addition to the static objects like poles, fences, and facades, the object centers of the detected dynamic vehicles are also used as keypoints for the matching of two point sets. The experiments on the synthetic dataset COMAP show that the proposed method can greatly decrease the relative localization error between two CAVs to less than 20cm as far as there are enough vehicles and poles are correctly detected by both CAVs. Besides, our proposed method is also highly efficient in runtime and can be used in real-time scenarios of autonomous driving.

Abstract: Mass movement hazards in the form of mega-gullies and landslides pose significant risks in urbanizing areas, yet they are poorly documented. To obtain primary data on the size, frequency, and triggers of abrupt mega-gullies and landslides in urban areas, rapid assessment methods based on structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetric techniques and watershed models were developed and deployed in the Los Laureles Canyon, a rapidly urbanizing watershed in Tijuana, Mexico. Three abrupt earth surface hazards were observed over a 5-year study period including two mega-gullies and one landslide, and all were linked to a combination of rainfall and water resources infrastructure failures (WRIFs): (1) water main breaks resulted from rainfall-driven gully erosion that undermined supply lines, and the resulting water jets caused abrupt mega-gully formation; this represents one of the first studies to document this process in an urban environment; (2) antecedent saturation of a hillslope from a leaking water supply pipe contributed to an abrupt landslide during a storm event. The return period of the storms that triggered the WRIF-based earth surface hazards was ∼1–2 years, suggesting that such triggering events occur frequently. WRIF-based hazards were also a non-negligible contributor to sediment generation at the watershed scale. While the number of observed events is small, these results suggest that WRIF can, in some cases, be the single most important process generating abrupt and life-threatening earth surface hazards on the poor urban periphery. Future studies of the triggers and mechanisms of abrupt urban mega-gullies and landslides should consider the role of WRIFs in antecedent saturation and erosion by broken water supply lines.

Abstract: Abstract We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction of the inclusive decay $$\Lambda _c^+ \rightarrow K_S^0X$$ Λ c + → K S 0 X . The analysis is performed using an $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 567 $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ pb - 1 taken at $$\sqrt{s}$$ s = 4.6 GeV with the BESIII detector. Using eleven Cabibbo-favored $${\bar{\Lambda }}_c^-$$ Λ ¯ c - decay modes and the double-tag technique, this absolute branching fraction is measured to be $${\mathcal {B}}(\Lambda _c^+ \rightarrow K_S^0X)=(9.9\pm 0.6\pm 0.4)\%$$ B ( Λ c + → K S 0 X ) = ( 9.9 ± 0.6 ± 0.4 ) % , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The relative deviation between the branching fractions for the inclusive decay and the observed exclusive decays is $$(18.7\pm 8.3)\%$$ ( 18.7 ± 8.3 ) % , which indicates that there may be some unobserved decay modes with a neutron or excited baryons in the final state.

19. Effect of process parameters on the force parameters in warm skew rolling of copper ball

Abstract: In order to better control the forming quality of copper ball by warm skew rolling process, a Finite Element Model (FEM) of copper ball warm skew rolling for the coupling of thermal and mechanical was established. The influence of process parameters on force and rolling torque was analyzed by using single factor research method. The results show that the smaller the cross angle, the lower the rolling temperature, the slower the rolling rotation speed, the greater the forming force and rolling torque, the more difficult for forming. The optimum rolling temperature is 600 °C; the optimum cross angle is 2,5°; the optimum rolling rotation speed is 60 rpm.

Abstract: The Born cross sections of e+e−→Σ0Σ¯0 are measured at center-of-mass energies from 2.3864 to 3.0200 GeV using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 328.5 pb−1 collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The analysis makes use of a novel reconstruction method for energies near production threshold, while a single-tag method is employed at other center-of-mass energies. The measured cross sections are consistent with earlier results from BaBar, with a substantially improved precision. The cross-section lineshape can be well described by a perturbative QCD-driven energy function. In addition, the effective form factors of the Σ0 baryon are determined. The results provide precise experimental input for testing various theoretical predictions.

Abstract: Abstract The 4d transition metal perovskites Can+1RunO3n+1 have attracted interest for their strongly interacting electronic phases showing pronounced sensitivity to controllable stimuli like strain, temperature, and even electrical current. Through multi-messenger low-temperature nano-imaging, we reveal a spontaneous striped texture of coexisting insulating and metallic domains in single crystals of the bilayer ruthenate Ca3(TixRu1-x)2O7 across its first-order Mott transition at $$T \approx 95$$ T ≈ 95 K. We image on-demand anisotropic nucleation and growth of these domains under in situ applied uniaxial strain rationalized through control of a spontaneous Jahn-Teller distortion. Our scanning nano-susceptibility imaging resolves the detailed susceptibility of coexisting phases to strain and temperature at the transition threshold. Comparing these nano-imaging results to bulk-sensitive elastoresistance measurements, we uncover an emergent “domain susceptibility” sensitive to both the volumetric phase fractions and elasticity of the self-organized domain lattice. Our combined susceptibility probes afford nano-scale insights into strain-mediated control over the insulator-metal transition in 4d transition metal oxides.

23. DHHC21 deficiency attenuates renal dysfunction during septic injury

Abstract: Abstract Renal dysfunction is one of the most common complications of septic injury. One critical contributor to septic injury-induced renal dysfunction is renal vascular dysfunction. Protein palmitoylation serves as a novel regulator of vascular function. Here, we examined whether palmitoyl acyltransferase (PAT)-DHHC21 contributes to septic injury-induced renal dysfunction through regulating renal hemodynamics. Multispectral optoacoustic imaging showed that cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced septic injury caused impaired renal excretion, which was improved in DHHC21 functional deficient (Zdhhc21 dep/dep ) mice. DHHC21 deficiency attenuated CLP-induced renal pathology, characterized by tissue structural damage and circulating injury markers. Importantly, DHHC21 loss-of-function led to better-preserved renal perfusion and oxygen saturation after CLP. The CLP-caused reduction in renal blood flow was also ameliorated in Zdhhc21 dep/dep mice. Next, CLP promoted the palmitoylation of vascular α1-adrenergic receptor (α1AR) and the activation of its downstream effector ERK, which were blunted in Zdhhc21 dep/dep mice. Vasoreactivity analysis revealed that renal arteries from Zdhhc21 dep/dep mice displayed reduced constriction response to α1AR agonist phenylephrine compared to those from wild-type mice. Consistently, inhibiting PATs with 2-bromopalmitate caused a blunted vasoconstriction response to phenylephrine in small arteries isolated from human kidneys. Therefore, DHHC21 contributes to impaired renal perfusion and function during septic injury via promoting α1AR palmitoylation-associated vasoconstriction.

24. Novel Keeling-plot-based methods to estimate the isotopic composition of ambient water vapor

Abstract: The Keeling plot approach, a general method to identify the isotopic composition of source atmospheric CO2 and water vapor (i.e., evapotranspiration), has been widely used in terrestrial ecosystems. The isotopic composition of ambient water vapor (δa), an important source of atmospheric water vapor, is not able to be estimated to date using the Keeling plot approach. Here we proposed two new methods to estimate δa using the Keeling plots: one using an intersection point method and another relying on the intermediate value theorem. As the actual δa value was difficult to measure directly, we used two indirect approaches to validate our new methods. First, we performed external vapor tracking using the Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model to facilitate explaining the variations of δa. The trajectory vapor origin results were consistent with the expectations of the δa values estimated by these two methods. Second, regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between δa values estimated from these two independent methods, and they are in strong agreement. This study provides an analytical framework to estimate δa using existing facilities and provides important insights into the traditional Keeling plot approach by showing (a) a possibility to calculate the proportion of evapotranspiration fluxes to total atmospheric vapor using the same instrumental setup for the traditional Keeling plot investigations and (b) perspectives on the estimation of isotope composition of ambient CO2 (δa13C).

Abstract: Abstract Using a sample of $$1.31\times 10^{9} ~J/\psi $$ 1.31×109J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γKK¯η′ . X(2370) is observed in the $$K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ KK¯η′ invariant-mass distribution with a statistical significance of $$8.3\sigma $$ 8.3σ . Its resonance parameters are measured to be $$M=2341.6\pm 6.5 \, \text {(stat.)} \pm 5.7 \, \text {(syst.)}~ \hbox {MeV}/c^{2}$$ M=2341.6±6.5(stat.)±5.7(syst.)MeV/c2 and $$\Gamma = 117\pm 10 \, \text {(stat.)}\pm 8 \, \text {(syst.)}~\hbox {MeV}$$ Γ=117±10(stat.)±8(syst.)MeV . The product branching fractions for $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2370),X(2370)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γX(2370),X(2370)→K+K-η′ and $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2370),X(2370)\rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γX(2370),X(2370)→KS0KS0η′ are determined to be $$(1.79\pm 0.23\, \text {(stat.)}\pm 0.65\,\text {(syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$$ (1.79±0.23(stat.)±0.65(syst.))×10-5 and $$(1.18\pm 0.32\, \text {(stat.)}\pm 0.39\, \text {(syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$$ (1.18±0.32(stat.)±0.39(syst.))×10-5 , respectively. No evident signal for X(2120) is observed in the $$K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ KK¯η′ invariant-mass distribution. The upper limits for the product branching fractions of $${\mathcal {B}}(J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2120)\rightarrow \gamma K^{+} K^{-} \eta ')$$ B(J/ψ→γX(2120)→γK+K-η′) and $${\mathcal {B}}(J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2120)\rightarrow \gamma K_{S}^{0} K_{S}^{0} \eta ')$$ B(J/ψ→γX(2120)→γKS0KS0η′) are determined to be $$1.49\times 10^{-5}$$ 1.49×10-5 and $$6.38\times 10^{-6}$$ 6.38×10-6 at the 90% confidence level, respectively.

Abstract: Abstract We present a regional‐scale integrated modeling system (IMS) that includes Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC), Weather Research and Forecast (WRF), Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ), and Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) models. The centerpiece of the IMS is the Fertilizer Emission Scenario Tool for CMAQ (FEST‐C), which includes a Java‐based interface and EPIC adapted to regional applications along with built‐in database and tools. The SWAT integration capability is a key enhanced feature in the current release of FEST‐C v1.4. For integrated modeling demonstration and evaluation, FEST‐C EPIC is simulated over three individual years with WRF/CMAQ weather and N deposition. Simulated yearly changes in water and N budgets along with yields for two major crops (corn grain and soybean) match those inferred from intuitive physical reasoning and survey data given different‐year weather conditions. Yearlong air quality simulations with an improved bidirectional ammonia flux modeling approach directly using EPIC‐simulated soil properties including NH3 content helps reduce biases of simulated gas‐phase NH3 and NH4+ wet deposition over the growing season. Integrated hydrology and water quality simulations applied to the Mississippi River Basin show that estimated monthly streamflow and dissolved N near the outlet to the Gulf of Mexico display similar seasonal patterns as observed. Limitations and issues in different parts of the integrated multimedia simulations are identified and discussed to target areas for future improvements.

27. Spin Transfer Torque in Fully Insulating Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

Abstract: Voltage-driven spin transfer torque in a magnetic tunnel junction comprising magnetic insulating electrodes is studied theoretically. In contrast with the conventional magnetic tunnel junctions comprising transition metal ferromagnets, the spin transfer torque presents unconventional bias dependencies, related to the presence of spin-dependent Fowler-Nordheim tunneling processes. In particular, we find that (i) the out-of-plane torque generally dominates the in-plane torque, (ii) out-of-plane torque and in-plane torque are symmetric and asymmetric at low bias voltage, respectively, and (iii) both of torques show a dramatic enhancement at large bias voltage. Materials consideration are discussed and we show that due to the low damping parameter expected in magnetic insulators a spin transfer torque can be experimentally observed in such systems., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract: Using 16 energy points of e+e− annihilation data collected in the vicinity of the J/ψ resonance with the BESIII detector and with a total integrated luminosity of around 100pb−1, we study the relative phase between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes of J/ψ decays. The relative phase between J/ψ electromagnetic decay and the continuum process (e+e− annihilation without the J/ψ resonance) is confirmed to be zero by studying the cross section lineshape of μ+μ− production. The relative phase between J/ψ strong and electromagnetic decays is then measured to be (84.9±3.6)∘ or (−84.7±3.1)∘ for the 2(π+π−)π0 final state by investigating the interference pattern between the J/ψ decay and the continuum process. This is the first measurement of the relative phase between J/ψ strong and electromagnetic decays into a multihadron final state using the lineshape of the production cross section. We also study the production lineshape of the multihadron final state ηπ+π− with η→π+π−π0, which provides additional information about the phase between the J/ψ electromagnetic decay amplitude and the continuum process. Additionally, the branching fraction of J/ψ→2(π+π−)π0 is measured to be (4.73±0.44)% or (4.85±0.45)%, and the branching fraction of J/ψ→ηπ+π− is measured to be (3.78±0.68)×10−4. Both of them are consistent with the world average values. The quoted uncertainties include both statistical and systematic uncertainties, which are mainly caused by the low statistics. Abstract: A continuous, 36-year measurement composite of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) at three measurement locations on Mount Zugspitze, Germany, was studied. For a comprehensive site characterization of Mount Zugspitze, analyses of CO2 weekly periodicity and diurnal cycle were performed to provide evidence for local sources and sinks, showing clear weekday to weekend differences, with dominantly higher CO2 levels during the daytime on weekdays. A case study of atmospheric trace gases (CO and NO) and the passenger numbers to the summit indicate that CO2 sources close by did not result from tourist activities but instead obviously from anthropogenic pollution in the near vicinity. Such analysis of local effects is an indispensable requirement for selecting representative data at orographic complex measurement sites. The CO2 trend and seasonality were then analyzed by background data selection and decomposition of the long-term time series into trend and seasonal components. The mean CO2 annual growth rate over the 36-year period at Zugspitze is 1.8±0.4 ppm yr−1, which is in good agreement with Mauna Loa station and global means. The peak-to-trough amplitude of the mean CO2 seasonal cycle is 12.4±0.6 ppm at Mount Zugspitze (after data selection: 10.5±0.5 ppm), which is much lower than at nearby measurement sites at Mount Wank (15.9±1.5 ppm) and Schauinsland (15.9±1.0 ppm), but following a similar seasonal pattern.

Abstract: Twinning has been found to be a dominate mechanism in the γ′ precipitate strengthened Ni-based superalloys during service at intermediate temperatures. Here, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and atomistic simulations have been combined to show that the twin nucleation process can be facilitated by Co replacing a fraction of Al in the γ′ precipitates, due to the negative binding energy of Co–Co atoms. The study further reveals that the presence of Co promotes a new twinning pathway featured with nucleation of one complex stacking fault (CSF) on the middle plane in between two separated CSFs.

While outcomes from subarachnoid hemorrhage have improved in recent years, there continues to be significant interest in identifying therapeutic targets for this disease. In particular, there has been a shift in emphasis toward secondary brain injury that develops in the first 72 hours after subarachnoid hemorrhage. This time period of interest is referred to as the early brain injury period and comprises processes including microcirculatory dysfunction, blood-brain-barrier breakdown, neuroinflammation, cerebral edema, oxidative cascades, and neuronal death. Advances in our understanding of the mechanisms defining the early brain injury period have been accompanied by improved imaging and nonimaging biomarkers for identifying early brain injury, leading to the recognition of an elevated clinical incidence of early brain injury compared with prior estimates. With the frequency, impact, and mechanisms of early brain injury better defined, there is a need to review the literature in this area to guide preclinical and clinical study.

35. Propeller control for takeoff of a heavily loaded coaxial compound helicopter

Abstract: Although a coaxial compound helicopter can takeoff without propeller in the normal condition, the distance should be as short as possible for obstacle avoidance when the vehicle operates in a confined area with heavy loads. Therefore, a suitable propeller control is required to improve the takeoff performance while the total power consumption is no more than the available power. The path is predicted by applying trajectory optimisation. Several varying takeoff parameters, including attitude, liftoff speed and obstacle height, are considered for optimum global performance. Three path indicators are proposed. Apart from typical distance and pilot workload, path sensitivity is quantified based on deviation from takeoff parameter variation. Results indicated that low propeller thrust at hover and moderate allocation on the propeller through flight is recommended. The aircraft achieves significantly improved takeoff performance compared to flight with pure rotors while maintaining the maximum takeoff weight. The distance is shortened by 12.6%, and the longitudinal pilot workload is alleviated by 9.8% and 7.3% from mean and maximum power frequency aspects. Besides, the path is less sensitive to takeoff parameter variations, such as speed, altitude and height.

Abstract: The role of hemorrhage volume in risk of vasospasm, delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), and poor outcomes after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is well established. However, the relative contribution of blood within individual compartments is unclear. We present an automated technique for measuring not only total but also volumes of blood in each major compartment after SAH.We trained convolutional neural networks to identify compartmental blood (cisterns, sulci, and ventricles) from baseline computed tomography scans of patients with SAH. We compared automated blood volumes against traditional markers of bleeding (modified Fisher score [mFS], Hijdra sum score [HSS]) in 190 SAH patients for prediction of vasospasm, DCI, and functional status (modified Rankin Scale) at hospital discharge.Combined cisternal and sulcal volume was better correlated with mFS and HSS than cisternal volume alone (ρ = 0.63 vs. 0.58 and 0.75 vs. 0.70, P0.001). Only blood volume in combined cisternal plus sulcal compartments was independently associated with DCI (OR 1.023 per mL, 95% CI 1.002-1.048), after adjusting for clinical factors while ventricular blood volume was not. Total and specifically sulcal blood volume was strongly associated with poor outcome (OR 1.03 per mL, 1.01-1.06, P = 0.006 and OR 1.04, 1.00-1.08 for sulcal) as was HSS (OR 1.06 per point, 1.00-1.12, P = 0.04), while mFS was not (P = 0.24).An automated imaging algorithm can measure the volume of bleeding after SAH within individual compartments, demonstrating cisternal plus sulcal (and not ventricular) blood contributes to risk of DCI/vasospasm. Automated blood volume was independently associated with outcome, while qualitative grading was not.

Abstract: Palmitoylation is a post-translational modification (PTM) based on thioester-linkage between palmitic acid and the cysteine residue of a protein. This covalent attachment of palmitate is reversibly and dynamically regulated by two opposing sets of enzymes: palmitoyl acyltransferases containing a zinc finger aspartate-histidine-histidine-cysteine motif (PAT-DHHCs) and thioesterases. The reversible nature of palmitoylation enables fine-tuned regulation of protein conformation, stability, and ability to interact with other proteins. More importantly, the proper function of many surface receptors and signaling proteins requires palmitoylation-meditated partitioning into lipid rafts. A growing number of leukocyte proteins have been reported to undergo palmitoylation, including cytokine/chemokine receptors, adhesion molecules, pattern recognition receptors, scavenger receptors, T cell co-receptors, transmembrane adaptor proteins, and signaling effectors including the Src family of protein kinases. This review provides the latest findings of palmitoylated proteins in leukocytes and focuses on the functional impact of palmitoylation in leukocyte function related to adhesion, transmigration, chemotaxis, phagocytosis, pathogen recognition, signaling activation, cytotoxicity, and cytokine production.

Abstract: We report a study of the e+e−→D+D−π+π− process using e+e− collision data samples with an integrated luminosity of 2.5fb−1 at center-of-mass energies from 4.36 to 4.60GeV, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The D1(2420)+ is observed in the D+π+π− mass spectrum. The mass and width of the D1(2420)+ are measured to be (2427.2±1.0stat.±1.2syst.)MeV/c2 and (23.2±2.3stat.±2.3syst.)MeV, respectively. In addition, the Born cross sections of the e+e−→D1(2420)+D−+c.c.→D+D−π+π− and e+e−→ψ(3770)π+π−→D+D−π+π− processes are measured as a function of the center-of-mass energy.

Abstract: The Electrical Vehicle industry has developed rapidly in recent years, and the demand for new energy-driven motor systems has also increased. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) are high performance drive motors. In this paper, a new type of GO silicon steel material assembled stator core is proposed, compared with conventional Non Grain-Oriented (NGO) silicon steel stator, and the magnetic properties of the motor are analyzed. The method of assembling the stator core is given, in which the GO silicon steel sheets are stacked as the teeth of the stator core. GO silicon steel has low iron loss and large saturation magnetic density, which is more conducive to improving motor efficiency. The teeth of the stator core tend to have higher magnetic density and are more prone to sustain a higher iron loss. This research ensures the reliability of the test results through simulation analysis and physical test verification.

Abstract: This study describes and implements an integrated, multimedia, process-based system-level approach to estimating nitrogen (N) fate and transport in large river basins. The modeling system includes the following components: (1) Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ), (2) Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF), (3) Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC), and (4) Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). The previously developed Fertilizer Emission Scenario Tool for CMAQ (FEST-C), an advanced user interface, integrated EPIC with the WRF model and CMAQ. The FEST-C system, driven by process-based WRF weather simulations, includes atmospheric N additions to agricultural cropland and agricultural cropland contributions to ammonia emissions. This study focuses on integrating the watershed hydrology and water quality model with FEST-C system so that a full multimedia assessment on water quality in large river basins to address impacts of fertilization, meteorology, and atmospheric N deposition on water quality can be achieved. Objectives of this paper are to describe how to expand the previous effort by integrating the SWAT model with the FEST-C (CMAQ/WRF/EPIC) modeling system, as well as to demonstrate application of the Integrated Modeling System (IMS) to the Mississippi River basin (MRB) to simulate streamflow and dissolved N loadings to the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). IMS simulation results generally agree with US Geological Survey (USGS) observations/estimations; the annual simulated streamflow is 218.9 mm and USGS observation is 211.1 mm and the annual simulated dissolved N is 2.1 kg ha−1 and the USGS estimation is 2.8 kg ha−1. Integrating SWAT with the CMAQ/WRF/EPIC modeling system allows for its use within large river basins without losing EPIC's more detailed biogeochemistry processes, which will strengthen the assessment of impacts of future climate scenarios, regulatory and voluntary programs for N oxide air emissions, and land use and land management on N transport and transformation in large river basins.

Abstract: Using a data sample of e+e− collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1 collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of s=3.773GeV, we search for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D0→π0π0π0, π0π0η, π0ηη and ηηη using the double tag method. The absolute branching fractions are measured to be B(D0→π0π0π0)=(2.0±0.4±0.3)×10−4, B(D0→π0π0η)=(3.8±1.1±0.7)×10−4 and B(D0→π0ηη)=(7.3±1.6±1.5)×10−4 with the statistical significances of 4.8σ, 3.8σ and 5.5σ, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. No significant signal of D0→ηηη is found, and the upper limit on its decay branching fraction is set to be B(D0→ηηη)

47. A Method Based on the Theory of Small Reflections to Design Arbitrary Passband Microstrip Filters

Abstract: A method to design a kind of microstrip filters consisting of only opened stubs and shorted stubs is proposed in this paper. This method is based on the Theory of Small Reflections, and the equations to calculate dimensions of this type of filters is exhibited. Two filters developed by our method are simulated and fabricated. The first filter has a passband on 5~8GHz. The second one is a dual-band filter and can work on both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. By using our method, the designed filters only contain opened stubs and shorted stubs, therefore, it is easy to design and fabricate this type of filters. The comparison between calculated and measured reflection coefficient curves shows a satisfactory fitting degree, this manifestation verifies that the method in our paper has a good application in filter design. The position of transmission zeros about the second filter are investigated. All the results show that our method can be a good guidance in microstrip filter design.

48. MONITORING FARMLAND LOSS CAUSED BY URBANIZATION IN BEIJING FROM MODIS TIME SERIES USING HIERARCHICAL HIDDEN MARKOV MODEL

Abstract: In this study, we proposed a method to map urban encroachment onto farmland using satellite image time series (SITS) based on the hierarchical hidden Markov model (HHMM). In this method, the farmland change process is decomposed into three hierarchical levels, i.e., the land cover level, the vegetation phenology level, and the SITS level. Then a three-level HHMM is constructed to model the multi-level semantic structure of farmland change process. Once the HHMM is established, a change from farmland to built-up could be detected by inferring the underlying state sequence that is most likely to generate the input time series. The performance of the method is evaluated on MODIS time series in Beijing. Results on both simulated and real datasets demonstrate that our method improves the change detection accuracy compared with the HMM-based method.

Abstract: Relatively total variation (RTV) algorithm, which can effectively decompose structure information and texture in image, is employed in extracting main structures of the image. However, applying the RTV directly to polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) image filtering will not preserve polarimetric information. A new RTV approach based on the complex Wishart distribution is proposed considering the polarimetric properties of PolSAR. The proposed polarization RTV (PolRTV) algorithm can be used for PolSAR image filtering. The L-band Airborne SAR (AIRSAR) San Francisco data is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in speckle suppression, structural information preservation, and polarimetric property preservation.

50. Adaptive selection of diurnal minimum variation: a statistical strategy to obtain representative atmospheric CO2 data and its application to European elevated mountain stations

Abstract: Critical data selection is essential for determining representative baseline levels of atmospheric trace gases even at remote measurement sites. Different data selection techniques have been used around the world, which could potentially lead to reduced compatibility when comparing data from different stations. This paper presents a novel statistical data selection method named adaptive diurnal minimum variation selection (ADVS) based on CO2 diurnal patterns typically occurring at elevated mountain stations. Its capability and applicability were studied on records of atmospheric CO2 observations at six Global Atmosphere Watch stations in Europe, namely, Zugspitze-Schneefernerhaus (Germany), Sonnblick (Austria), Jungfraujoch (Switzerland), Izaña (Spain), Schauinsland (Germany), and Hohenpeissenberg (Germany). Three other frequently applied statistical data selection methods were included for comparison. Among the studied methods, our ADVS method resulted in a lower fraction of data selected as a baseline with lower maxima during winter and higher minima during summer in the selected data. The measured time series were analyzed for long-term trends and seasonality by a seasonal-trend decomposition technique. In contrast to unselected data, mean annual growth rates of all selected datasets were not significantly different among the sites, except for the data recorded at Schauinsland. However, clear differences were found in the annual amplitudes as well as the seasonal time structure. Based on a pairwise analysis of correlations between stations on the seasonal-trend decomposed components by statistical data selection, we conclude that the baseline identified by the ADVS method is a better representation of lower free tropospheric (LFT) conditions than baselines identified by the other methods.
