Background Right ventricular fractional area change (RVFAC) as right ventricular function is recently referred as an independent predictor of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Light ventricular function is related with SCD and adopted as a criteria of ICD implantation for primary prophylaxis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of RVFAC and appropriate ICD therapy. Methods Consecutive patients who underwent initial ICD implantation for any diseases except for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Brugada syndrome and long QT syndrome were retrospectively enrolled from 2012 to 2018. Transthoracic echocardiographic parameters before ICD implantation were evaluated to investigate the association with appropriate ICD therapy. We analyzed RV function of patients undergoing echocardiography one year after implantation. RVFAC was measured by one physician and one echocardiologist. Results In total, 172 patients (60.3±13.6 years, 131 males) including 63 ischemic cardiomyopathy were enrolled. Ninety patients received an ICD as a secondary prophylaxis. Mean LVEF and RVFAC were 38.3±14.3% and 35.8±8.82%, respectively. There was no correlation between RVFAC and LVEF (correlation coefficient =0.274). Regarding appropriate ICD therapy events, the best cut-off value of RVFAC was 34.8%. The odds ratio of low RVFAC was 2.731 (95%CI: 1.456-5.121, P Conclusion RVFAC and RV function improvement may be important to stratify the prognosis of ICD patients.

A new image measurement method for obtaining time-mean velocity field is proposed. The so-called time-averaged contrast is a statistical parameter of image data. Its characteristics are examined in detail with a simple mathematical model for particle images. It is found that the variance of image data gives the time-averaged contrast in time. Numerical simulation shows the possibility of practical measurement.

Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine - Abstract
Background For decades, ICD is a well-established therapy for improving prognosis of structural heart disease with severe cardiac dysfunction, and ICD for primary prophylaxis against sudden cardiac death were routinely provided. However, long-term prognosis and clinical course are different in each individual patient with an ICD, and it is moreover unclear what kind of factors might have influences on their clinical outcomes. Purpose The aim of this study is to clarify long-term prognosis and predictors of future major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in HFrEF patients with an ICD as primary prophylaxis in Japanese population. Methods We retrospectively analyzed our ICD database. Patients underwent primary prophylactic ICD implantation from 2006 to 2020 at our institute and met the criteria of ICD recommendation of the latest Japanese guideline. Its requirements are receiving optimal medication therapy, symptomatic heart failure (New York Heart Association classification II or greater), and severe cardiac dysfunction (left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is 35% or less). Additionally, prior NSVT is considered Class I ICD recommendation. In the case of ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM), ICD implantation was done at least 40 days after myocardial infarction and at least 90 days after revascularization. MACEs were defined as composite outcome of cardiovascular death, heart failure hospitalization, and appropriate ICD therapies. Results A total of 148 consecutive patients were enrolled (male, 120 (81%); age, 62.1±11.8 years; LVEF, 23.0±5.86%; left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVDd), 67.6±9.26mm; paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), 38 (26%); NSVT, 113 (76%); use of class III antiarrhythmic drugs, 48 (32%); ICM, 49 (33%); cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), 63 (43%)). One hundred twenty patients (81%) were programmed with a shock-only zone over 200 beats per minute. The median follow-up duration was 58.5 months. Among those 148 patients, MACEs were occurred to 60 patients (41%). As a result of dividing all patients into two groups by the occurrence of MACE, LVEF and LVDd were worse in MACE(+) group, whereas, MACE(−) had greater number of co morbidities. The results of cox-regression analysis showed LVDd (HR: 1.07, 95% CI: 1.03–1.12, p Conclusions The incidence of MACEs in patients with an ICD and severe HFrEF was substantially high in this Japanese population. Etiology of ICM, left ventricle size, and AF were the potential risk factors for future MACEs. Funding Acknowledgement Type of funding sources: None.

Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine - Abstract
Background Patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are at high risk of lethal arrhythmias, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) are widely used for prevention of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Apical HCM is a phenotype variant of HCM, with hypertrophy predominantly affecting apex, that was initially described 30 years ago. Apical HCM patients may have different clinical prognosis compared with other subsets of HCM. In previous studies, apical HCM patients seem to have a more benign prognosis than other types of HCM. However, little is known about the long-term outcomes of apical HCM patients and there are many unclear points. Moreover, there are few reports about the clinical prognosis in apical HCM patients with an ICD. Objective The aim of this study is to identify the difference between the prognosis of apical and the other types of HCM patients with an ICD. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the database of our ICD clinic. All subjects underwent ICD implantation between October 2006 and September 2018. We classified HCM patients into LV outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) and midventricular obstruction (MVO), apical HCM and other non-obstructive types. We divided all the patients into apical and other types of HCM, and examined their background, incidence of appropriate ICD therapies, hospitalization for heart failure, electrical storm and death. Results A total of consecutive 64 Japanese HCM patients with an ICD (follow-up period, 86±24 months; age, 65±14 years; male sex, 83%; left ventricular ejection fraction, 56±14%; LV max wall-thickness, 19±7mm; LV apical aneurysm, 9.4%; 5-year risk of SCD, 4.4±2.1) were enrolled in this study. We classified them into 14 apical HCM and 50 other types of HCM patients. The clinical characteristics and major clinical events of these patients are shown in the Table 1. During the follow-up periods, there were no significant differences in the incidence of electrical storm, hospitalization for heart failure and death between the 2 groups (p=0.11; p=0.60; p=0.39). Appropriate ICD therapies occurred in 6 of 14 (43%) patients with apical HCM and 5 of 50 (10%) patients with other types of HCM (p=0.010). The risk factors of patients with apical HCM patients are shown in Table 2. Conclusions Appropriate ICD therapy was more prevalent in patients with apical HCM, compared to patients with other types of HCM. Aggressive intervention such as catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation may be considered in patients with apical HCM and higher score of 5-year risk of SCD. Further studies are needed to clarify the manifestations and long-term outcome of apical HCM patients. Funding Acknowledgement Type of funding sources: None.

Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background Non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT) is frequent phenomenon in severe heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients, and causes any negative impacts on such patients. In the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS) and Japanese Heart Rhythm Society (JHRS) guidelines, NSVT is regarded as a major component of indication for implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation. However, the long-term prognostic significance of NSVT in severe HFrEF is incompletely resolved. Purpose The aim of this study is to investigate the relation between prior NSVT episodes and major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in HFrEF patients with an ICD as primary prophylaxis. Methods We retrospectively analyzed our ICD database. Patients underwent primary prophylactic ICD implantation from 2007 to 2018 following ICD recommendation of JCS and JHRS guidelines. Patients met the criteria of receiving optimal medication therapy, symptomatic heart failure (New York Heart Association classification II or greater), and severe cardiac dysfunction (left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is 35% or less). In the case of ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM), implantation of ICD was done at least 40 days after myocardial infarction and at least 90 days after revascularization. Incidence of NSVT episodes were identified through daily electrocardiogram (ECG), Holter ECG or monitor ECG in the hospital. MACEs were defined as composite outcome of cardiovascular death, heart failure hospitalization, and appropriate ICD therapies. Results A total of 148 consecutive patients were enrolled (male, 120 (81%); age, 62.1±11.8 years; LVEF, 23.0±5.86%; left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVDd), 67.6±9.26mm; paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), 38 (26%); NSVT, 113 (76%); use of class III antiarrhythmic drugs, 48 (32%); ICM, 49 (33%); cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), 63 (43%)). The median follow-up duration was 58.5 months. As a result of comparison of the Kaplan-Meier curve between NSVT group (n=113) and non-NSVT group (n=35), cardiovascular death, heart failure hospitalization, and appropriate ICD therapy were not statistically different (Figures). Of those, MACEs were occurred to 60 patients (41%). The results of cox-regression analysis showed LVDd (HR: 1.07, 95% CI: 1.03-1.12, p Conclusions In this Japanese population, the long-term prognosis of severe HFrEF patients is considered to be comparable regardless of prior NSVT episodes. However, the incidence of MACEs in patients with severe HFrEF after ICD implantation was substantially high. ICM, left ventricle size, and atrial fibrillation were the potential risk factors for MACEs as the previous reports showed.

- Abstract
This article reviews conventional and novel methods for facial-image identification from forensic aspects. Among the conventional approaches, three methods, i.e., morphological comparison of facial features, anthropometric indices comparison, and face-to-face superimposition, are generally used. The methods most commonly used in caseworks are in the order of morphological comparison, anthropometric indices comparison, and face-to-face superimposition. A novel method based on the superimposition of 2D/3D facial images is introduced and its advantages and disadvantages are described. Assessments of the reliability of facial-image identification, including expert opinions, are discussed. A new retrieval system using a 3D facial-image database is proposed for the screening of suspects' facial images.

H-shaped beams connected to steel dampers are subjected to compressive and tensile forces in addition to flexural moment, and then the buckling behavior of H-shaped beams under axial force and flexural moment is more unstable than that under only flexural moment. In this paper, the lateral buckling behavior for H-shaped beams with the lateral bracing under the flexural moment and axial force is clarified. First, the elastic lateral buckling load of H-shaped beams is developed with the energy method, and the relationship between the lateral buckling load and the bracing rigidity is clarified. The bracing rigidities consist of the lateral and rotational rigidities. The required bracing rigidity is developed from two equations of the elastic lateral buckling load. Next, large deformation analyses are performed using the numerical analyses program ABAQUS with version 6.13, and the elasto-plastic lateral buckling behavior for H-shaped beams with lateral and rotational bracings is presented. Finally, the lateral buckling load for H-shaped beams with the required bracing rigidity is estimated with the modified equivalent slenderness ratio, and the elasto-plastic buckling stress is compared with the buckling curve for Japanese standard code.

Alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase 2 (AGXT2; EC 2.6.1.44) degrades asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), a competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthase. Increased ADMA, reduced NO, and hypertension are shown in Agxt2 knockout mice. There are four single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs37370, rs37369, rs180749, and rs16899974) with which AGXT2 activity changes in humans and may be related to vulnerability of vascular sclerosis. To examine the relationship between them, we studied the functional haplotypes of the AGXT2 gene and decided their relationship with arteriosclerotic changes via carotid intima-media thickness (carotid IMT) in Japanese subjects. Genotyping of those polymorphisms and the carotid IMT in 1,426 Japanese subjects were then evaluated. Subjects with C-A-A-A haplotype (rs37370, rs37369, rs180749, rs16899974) showed low AGXT2 activity (P0.0001; Pearsons correlation coefficients: 0.497). The C-A-A-A haplotype was significantly associated with mean carotid IMT (P=0.049) and max carotid IMT (P=0.004). Subjects with two C-A-A-A haplotypes exhibited thicker mean carotid IMT (P=0.022) and maximum carotid IMT (P=0.001). In multiple regression analysis, subjects with two C-A-A-A haplotypes were independently and positively associated with mean carotid IMT (P=0.02) and maximum IMT (P=0.005) after correction. There was a significant correlation between the functional variants in the AGXT2 gene and carotid IMT in Japanese. The AGXT2 genotype may be an important factor underlying atherosclerosis.

Vickers hardness tests were carried out on YBCO and YBCO + 1 wt% ZnO polycrystalline superconductors from 40 to 293 K. It was found that the hardness was increased with 1 wt%ZnO addition to YBCO. Thermal activation energies of samples YBCO and YBCO + 1 wt%ZnO were found to be 0.0036 and 0.0026 eV, respectively. No creep was observed in the load–displacement experiments carried out for both samples at low temperatures, when the load was kept fixed for 15 s. It was detected that elastic recovery ratio of the 1 wt%ZnO added YBCO sample was higher than that of YBCO at both low temperature and room temperature.

Fracture toughness of Sm123 bulk superconductors with 16.7 and 28.6 mol% of Sm211 particles have been investigated by Vickers hardness test at cryogenic temperatures. The hardness test was carried out on [001] plane for two types of SmBCO bulk materials during 40-293 K. However, the hardness of Sm29 increased to 7,380 MPa with decreasing temperatures. In addition, fracture toughness of Sm17 and Sm29 are discussed calculating from Vickers hardness, median cracks length, Young's modulus and applied load. The fracture toughness of Sm17 became constant to 0.8 MPa/spl radic/m following the hardness property. The fracture toughness of Sm29 decreased from 0.73 Mpa/spl radic/m at 293 K to 0.67 Mpa/spl radic/m at 40 K.

The results of neutron reflectometry on measuring hydrogen content in a Pd thin film are presented and a new method of detecting hydrogen content in a thin film of hydrogen absorbing material is proposed. By neutron reflectometry, hydrogen content H/Pd in a 40 nm -thick Pd film is obtained as 0.42 at the surface and as 0.69 at the substrate under 0.02 MPa hydrogen pressure. In addition to the above results, we propose a new method for measuring hydrogen content in a thin film using multilayer spin splitters, which enables us to apply neutron phase-spin echo technique. In the new method, precision of hydrogen content can be improved.

The superconducting transition was investigated in under-doped La2−xSrxCuO4 (LSCO) single crystals under anisotropic pressure. With decreasing x, the transition temperature Tc was found to drop discontinuously from a finite value to zero around xc≈0.05 in the tetragonal lattice of LSCO, while Tc is well known to decrease continuously and to disappear at x≈0.06 in the orthorhombic phase at ambient pressure. The phase change of the tetragonal LSCO across xc looks like a first-order transition as the electron-doped tetragonal Nd2−xCexCuO4 shows in the vicinity of x=0.14. In LSCO doped just above xc, the superconductor–insulator transition is also expected in a single sample by compressing along the c-axis. The transition between the superconducting phase and the magnetic insulating phase is closely related to the in-plane resistivity or the two-dimensional character of electronic state.

In order to estimate the tribological properties of structural materials for superconducting magnet at cryogenic temperatures, we investigated Vickers hardness from 4.2 K in liquid helium to 293 K. The clear change of hardness property was obtained around 77 K. We considered that it would be caused by a transformation of the deformation mechanism from dislocation slip at higher temperature to deformation twinning at lower temperature from the thermal activation process. We also considered that the transition temperature changing hardness property was related to the intersection temperature at which slip stress became equal to twinning stress. The change of deformation mechanism was confirmed experimentally by changing the loading rate, and by the TEM observation of the indentation scar.

Maitake mushroom powder drastically decreased dough strength in Brabender farinography and was also effective in deteriorating bread-making properties (bread height and specific volume). These effects of maitake on farinograph values and bread-making properties were lost by boiling maitake/water suspensions or by adding EDTA, suggesting that the deteriorative effects by maitake may be caused by a metal protease. Flour dough that contained maitake was treated with 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and extracted proteins were subjected to SE-HPLC and SDS-PAGE. The range of high-molecular-weight (HMW) protein in those profiles gradually decreased with an increase of maitake, and HMW protein/total protein correlated well with bread height but did not have a clear effect on specific volume.

Electrical characteristics of zinc oxide (ZnO)/glass surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters, the structure of which is ZnO thin film on a glass substrate with aluminum inter digital transducers, are greatly influenced by deposition parameters of a radio frequency sputtering for making ZnO thin films. The deposition conditions for making the ZnO thin film are also considered to obtain good piezoelectricity for SAW devices. Oxygen concentration in the radio frequency sputtering greatly affects the properties of ZnO thin films. The interface microstructure of ZnO thin films is investigated by cross-section transmission electron spectroscopy. The growth figures of ZnO on glass and ZnO on Al are similar. The average crystal size of ZnO on glass is larger than that of ZnO on Al.

Ferroelectric Ba 0.75 Sr 0.25 TiO 3 (BST) thin film has been prepared for the development of a new-type dielectric bolometer using its temperature dependence of dielectric constant around the Curie temperature ( T c ). Pulsed laser deposition method has been employed to deposit BST films on a Pt/Ti/NSG(nondoped silicon glass)/SiN/SiO/Si(1 0 0) substrate. For a better understanding of how to obtain BST thin films with a high-and-sharp dielectric peak around the T c , X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, D – E hysteresis and C – T characteristics were measured. It was found that the primary factors determining the dielectric behaviors of BST films are grain size and film thickness. BST films with thickness down to 0.6 μm prepared at a substrate temperature of more than 550°C showed some potential, and the crack-free 1 μm-thick highly oriented BST films with some degree of epitaxy can be a good candidate for such ferroelectric microbolometer application.

ZnO thin films have been grown by radio frequency sputtering on Al, Au, Ni, Cu and glass substrates. Crystallinity of ZnO thin films has been estimated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and reflected high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED). ZnO/substrates interfaces have been observed by cross-section transmission electron microscopy (TEM). ZnO thin films are classified into two groups depending on the type of substrate. ZnO thin films on glass, Au and Al show good c -axis orientation, but orientation of ZnO thin films on Ni and Cu is rather disordered. Considering the relationship between surface morphology of substrates and crystallinity of ZnO, the orientation of ZnO thin film is disordered, when the substrate surface is rough. Crystallinity of ZnO is greatly influenced by surface morphology as well as substrate crystallinity.

Wheat flour was blended with triticale flour and baking tests were performed. When 18.3% of tritlcale flour was blended with wheat flour, the greatest bread height (mm) and specific volume (cm 3 /g) were obtained. Triticale flour was fractionated into water solubles, gluten, prime starch, and tailings by acetic acid (pH 3.5) fractionation. Baking results indicated that only the water solubles fraction produced the same baking performance as the original triticale flour. Several types of triticale flour were blended with wheat flours, and the breadmaking tests and measurement of amylase activities were compared. Baking results appeared to be related to α-amylase activity of triticale flour.

ZnO thin films have been formed by radio frequency sputtering on glass, Al, Au and R-cut sapphire substrates. Micro structures of ZnO/substrate interfaces have been observed by transmission electron microscope and the surface morphology of the substrates has been measured by atomic force microscope. An amorphous layer is observed at the ZnO/glass interface and also a thicker amorphous layer at the ZnO/Al interface. No amorphous layers are observed at ZnO/Au and ZnO/sapphire interfaces, and direct orientation of ZnO thin films begins at the interface of both substrates. These results clearly demonstrate that crystallization of ZnO thin films prepared by radio frequency sputtering is strongly influenced by the surface crystallinity and morphology of substrates. Epitaxially grown ZnO thin films are confirmed, both on R-cut sapphire and on Au, by cross section transmission electron microscope.

Compressive stress in ZnO thin film on a glass substrate deposited by radio frequency (rf) magnetron sputtering has been investigated. ZnO was deposited through a stainless mask with rectangular windows, which was placed directly on a glass substrate with Al electrodes. The electrodes called inter-digital transducers, were fabricated on the substrate before the deposition of ZnO. Depending on the sputtering conditions, the substrate was cracked from the triple point (T.P.), where the edge of an Al electrode and an edge of the ZnO were crossing. It has been made clear by X-ray diffraction analysis that the lattice spacing of the c -plane of ZnO on an Al electrode was about 0.27% longer than that on a glass substrate. Finite element method (FEM) analysis revealed that the residual tensile stress was concentrated at the edge of ZnO film. Moreover, owing to the crossing of the Al electrode and ZnO, the stress is extremely magnified. The crack is originated from the T.P. and grows along the edge of the ZnO. Electrically floating of the stainless mask from the earth reduces the c-lattice spacing difference from 0.27–0.02%, which reduces the formation of the crack.

An improvement of thickness distribution and crystallinity in ZnO thin films prepared by radio frequency (rf) planer magnetron sputtering have been studied. Optimum thickness distribution of less than ±2.2% in a 3-inch wafer is obtained by changing the substrate angle to the ZnO target and is in accordance with cosine law. C-axis orientation perpendicular to the silicon substrate is confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The stress of ZnO thin films is more than 0.3 GPa and its distribution is independent of the substrate angle that is set at a slant to the optimum angle for thickness distribution. These results indicate that thickness distribution of ZnO thin films heavily depends on the substrate angle, while the c-axis orientation, the stress and its distribution are independent of the setting angle of the substrate. The stress distribution is attributed to the lattice constant distribution and the crystallinity distribution of ZnO thin films.

Typology ,Alliance ,Top management ,General Medicine ,Business ,Road map ,Marketing ,Forging - Abstract
Hardly a day goes by without an announcement of the formation of an alliance among major companies around the world. But many an alliance entered into with great fanfare has turned sour. Indeed, the divorce rate is rather high. A recent study conducted by the authors suggests two major reasons for failed alliances. One is managers' misunderstanding of what an alliance is and what it can do. Too many managers perceive alliance as an undifferentiated concept; they miss the subtle and not so subtle distinctions among types of alliances. Failure of management to critically assess its strategic logic before forging a relationship with another company is the other major cause of failed alliances. To help managers better assess associated opportunities and risks, we have developed a typology for analyzing the strategic implications inherent in different kinds of alliances. We also offer a road map designed to encourage a disciplined, systematic approach to the forging of alliances.

We evaluated contrast sensitivity and glare in 64 pseudophakic eyes. An ultraviolet-absorbing intraocular lens (IOL) was implanted in 32 eyes and a noncyanopsia yellow-tinted IOL was implanted in 32 eyes. The latter lens was designed to effectively absorb light below a wave-length of 500 nm. Contrast sensitivity was measured at a pupil diameter of 3 mm using an artificial pupil. The implanted yellow-tinted IOL showed improved contrast sensitivity in the middle spatial frequencies of 6 and 12 c/deg in photopic and mesopic vision. In addition, the yellow-tinted IOL decreased the effect of central glare on the contrast sensitivity.

A system configured with a catalytic combustion gas turbine generator unit is introduced. The system has been developed using technologies produced by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., such as small gas turbines, recuperators and catalytic combustors, and catalytic oxidation units which use exhaust heat from gas turbines. The system combusts (oxidizes) ventilation air methane (less than 1% concentration) and low concentration coal mine methane (30% concentration or less) discharged as waste from coal mines. Thus, it cannot only reduce the consumption of high- quality fuel for power generation, but also mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

In Japanese design code, the bracing for the compression members is supported to be set up on the centroid of its section. On the other hand, the braces may be not jointed at the centroid for the compression members in the real structures, and be eccentrically jointed on the section of members. If non-structural members are used as bracings, it is more effective to design the space frame. These members are supported to be effective to restrain the buckling deformation for the compression members, and then most of non-structural members are plurally or continuously jointed. Our previous papers have evaluated the effect of the eccentric braces to restrain the buckling deformation for H-shaped compression members with an eccentric brace at the center of the member, and with continuously eccentric braces, respectively. But the effect for the continuously eccentric braces may be different from that for an eccentric brace at the center of the compression member. If it makes the effect of each eccentric bracing equivalent, it is more practical to design the compression members with eccentric braces in the space structures. This paper compares the elasto-plastic buckling behavior for H-shaped compression members with eccentric braces at the center of members to that with continuously eccentric braces, and suggests the unified estimation method for the effect of the bucking restraint for each eccentric bracing.

The reactive gas cluster injection process is an etching method that uses a neutral cluster beam without plasma. ClF3‐Ar neutral cluster was generated and the Si etching characteristics with this beam were investigated. ClF3 is very high reactive gas. Adiabatic expansion of a high‐pressure gas through a conical nozzle is utilized for the formation of cluster beams. The source gas was a mixture of ClF3 (6%) with Ar (94%). The etching rate increased with source gas pressure nonlinearly, and the etching rate achieved more than 30 μm/min at 0.85 MPa. Although the irradiation energy was very low (

Vickers hardness properties of YBCO bulk superconductor have been investigated from 40 to 293 K in this study. Hardness increased up to 18, 000±2500 MPa with decreasing temperature. Furthermore, cracks caused by the indentation process were observed with SEM, and the increase in crack length with decreasing of temperature was obtained. Fracture toughness KIC at cryogenic temperatures was attempted to estimate with Vickers hardness and crack length.

With the partial opening of the Shin-Yatsushiro to Kagoshima-Chuo section of the Kyushu Shinkansen in March 2004, management of the connection to the conventional line limited express trains at Shin-Yatsushiro Station. It became important to provide a service in the Hakata to Kagoshima-Chuo section that was comparable to that of the transport system up to then. For that reason, station facilities were made to enable transfers between the Shinkansen and conventional line trains at the same platform. In addition, linkage functions between the Shinkansen and conventional line dispatch systems were set up as follows. - Referencing of conventional line timetables when considering revised Shinkansen timetables - Adding conventional line connection management functions to the Shinkansen programmed route control - Adding conventional line occupation display to the Shinkansen line occupation display and route control monitor - Displaying the conventional line timetable (planned and actual) on the Shinkansen timetable display monitor - Sharing of operation information provision between the Shinkansen and conventional lines - Guidance of trains and operation, including information relating to conventional line train connections on indicators for passengers The work is supported by means such as allowing dispatchers to identify the timetable of the day for the other type of train system and the current train operation status.
