1. Analysis of Nutrient Intake and Dietary Adequacy on Weekdays and Weekends among Undergraduate Students

Abstract: To comparatively analyze nutrient intake and dietary adequacy on weekdays (WKDs) and weekends (WKNs) among undergraduate students. Participants: University students (N = 210), 18-30 years old. Methods: A two-day food record was used. Intake of energy, macronutrients, micronutrients and fiber were calculated, without and with an adjustment for 2000 kcal of energy and compared to the corresponding nutritional requirements. Results: Energy and macronutrients' intake was higher on WKNs (1,776.84 ± 40.68 vs. 2,025.76 ± 52.46 kcal; p < 0.05). There was a high predominance of hypocaloric diet on both WKDs (72%) and WKNs (57%). A low prevalence (<50%) of favorable intake level of most micronutrients and fiber was found on WKDs, WKNs, or both. There was a lower favorable intake of vitamins A, C, iron, and magnesium on WKNs, after adjusting for 2000 kcal. Conclusion: Undergraduate students showed an unfavorable nutrient intake and poor dietary quality on WKNs. Interventions that promote healthy eating are needed.

2. Respiratory electron transport system activity in symbiotic corals and its link to calcification

Abstract: Scleractinian corals host photosynthetic endosymbionts, making direct measurement of the host respiration rate via incubation methods based on O2 consumption impossible. We tested the use of the respiratory electron transport system activity (ETSA) for measuring host potential respiration. The applied method, modified from a previous study, is based on the reduction of (4-iodophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-phenyl-2H-tetrazolium chloride (INT) to formazan. After the development of a protocol suitable for corals, the method was tested on 5 different species. Metabolism, including photosynthesis, dark respiration and light and dark calcification, was measured through incubation. Host and zooxanthellae fractions were separated and their ETSAs, protein contents and zooxanthellae densities were measured. Mean ETSA/dark respiration (ETSA/R) ratios for host corals ranged from 1.7 ± 0.2 to 3.5 ± 0.6, while ratios for zooxanthellae ranged from 3.7 to 7.8. The high ratios observed for zooxanthellae indicate that their respiration may be 5 times higher under light conditions than in the dark. Considering the obtained ratios, host respiration in light could increase at most by a factor of 3.5 compared with dark respiration rates. Ratios close to 1 were found for some specimens, which suggests that higher respiration rates under light compared with dark conditions are not possible. Therefore, increased respiration in light cannot explain the observed enhancement of calcification under light conditions. ETSA was correlated with zooxanthellae density, suggesting adaptation of the levels of host ETS enzymes to the amount of translocated photosynthetates under optimal conditions. Estimated dark host respiration was correlated with photosynthesis, which suggests that it is determined mainly by the amount of energy available but also the amount of electron transport system enzymes. This constrains the amount of ATP available for calcification. Hence, we propose a mechanism by which respiration limits the calcification rate.

Abstract: Abstract The T2K experiment presents new measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters using $$19.7(16.3)\times 10^{20}$$ 19.7 ( 16.3 ) × 10 20 protons on target (POT) in (anti-)neutrino mode at the far detector (FD). Compared to the previous analysis, an additional $$4.7\times 10^{20}$$ 4.7 × 10 20 POT neutrino data was collected at the FD. Significant improvements were made to the analysis methodology, with the near-detector analysis introducing new selections and using more than double the data. Additionally, this is the first T2K oscillation analysis to use NA61/SHINE data on a replica of the T2K target to tune the neutrino flux model, and the neutrino interaction model was improved to include new nuclear effects and calculations. Frequentist and Bayesian analyses are presented, including results on $$\sin ^2\theta _{13}$$ sin 2 θ 13 and the impact of priors on the $$\delta _{\textrm{CP}}$$ δ CP measurement. Both analyses prefer the normal mass ordering and upper octant of $$\sin ^2\theta _{23}$$ sin 2 θ 23 with a nearly maximally CP-violating phase. Assuming the normal ordering and using the constraint on $$\sin ^2\theta _{13}$$ sin 2 θ 13 from reactors, $$\sin ^2\theta _{23}=0.561^{+0.021}_{-0.032}$$ sin 2 θ 23 = 0 . 561 - 0.032 + 0.021 using Feldman–Cousins corrected intervals, and $$\varDelta {}m^2_{32}=2.494_{-0.058}^{+0.041}\times 10^{-3}~\text {eV}^2$$ Δ m 32 2 = 2 . 494 - 0.058 + 0.041 × 10 - 3 eV 2 using constant $$\varDelta \chi ^{2}$$ Δ χ 2 intervals. The CP-violating phase is constrained to $$\delta _{\textrm{CP}}=-1.97_{-0.70}^{+0.97}$$ δ CP = - 1 . 97 - 0.70 + 0.97 using Feldman–Cousins corrected intervals, and $$\delta _{\textrm{CP}}=0,\pi $$ δ CP = 0 , π is excluded at more than 90% confidence level. A Jarlskog invariant of zero is excluded at more than $$2\sigma $$ 2 σ credible level using a flat prior in $$\delta _{\textrm{CP}},$$ δ CP , and just below $$2\sigma $$ 2 σ using a flat prior in $$\sin \delta _{\textrm{CP}}.$$ sin δ CP . When the external constraint on $$\sin ^2\theta _{13}$$ sin 2 θ 13 is removed, $$\sin ^2\theta _{13}=28.0^{+2.8}_{-6.5}\times 10^{-3},$$ sin 2 θ 13 = 28 . 0 - 6.5 + 2.8 × 10 - 3 , in agreement with measurements from reactor experiments. These results are consistent with previous T2K analyses.

Abstract: Preceding a core-collapse supernova (CCSN), various processes produce an increasing amount of neutrinos of all flavors characterized by mounting energies from the interior of massive stars. Among them, the electron antineutrinos are potentially detectable by terrestrial neutrino experiments such as KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande (SK) via inverse beta decay interactions. Once these pre-supernova (pre-SN) neutrinos are observed, an early warning of the upcoming CCSN can be provided. In light of this, KamLAND and SK, both located in the Kamioka mine in Japan, have been monitoring pre-SN neutrinos since 2015 and 2021, respectively. Recently, we performed a joint study between KamLAND and SK on pre-SN neutrino detection. A pre-SN alert system combining the KamLAND detector and the SK detector was developed and put into operation, which can provide a supernova alert to the astrophysics community. Fully leveraging the complementary properties of these two detectors, the combined alert is expected to resolve a pre-SN neutrino signal from a 15 M _⊙ star within 510 pc of the Earth at a significance level corresponding to a false alarm rate of no more than 1 per century. For a Betelgeuse-like model with optimistic parameters, it can provide early warnings up to 12 hr in advance.

Abstract: Among multimessenger observations of the next Galactic core-collapse supernova, Super-Kamiokande (SK) plays a critical role in detecting the emitted supernova neutrinos, determining the direction to the supernova (SN), and notifying the astronomical community of these observations in advance of the optical signal. In 2022, SK has increased the gadolinium dissolved in its water target (SK-Gd) and has achieved a Gd concentration of 0.033%, resulting in enhanced neutron detection capability, which in turn enables more accurate determination of the supernova direction. Accordingly, SK-Gd’s real-time supernova monitoring system has been upgraded. SK_SN Notice, a warning system that works together with this monitoring system, was released on 2021 December 13, and is available through GCN Notices. When the monitoring system detects an SN-like burst of events, SK_SN Notice will automatically distribute an alarm with the reconstructed direction to the supernova candidate within a few minutes. In this paper, we present a systematic study of SK-Gd’s response to a simulated Galactic SN. Assuming a supernova situated at 10 kpc, neutrino fluxes from six supernova models are used to characterize SK-Gd’s pointing accuracy using the same tools as the online monitoring system. The pointing accuracy is found to vary from 3° to 7° depending on the models. However, if the supernova is closer than 10 kpc, SK_SN Notice can issue an alarm with three-degree accuracy, which will benefit follow-up observations by optical telescopes with large fields of view.

Abstract: We report the first search result for the flux of astrophysical electron antineutrinos for energies ${ \mathcal O }(10)\,\mathrm{MeV}$ in the gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK) detector. In 2020 June, gadolinium was introduced to the ultrapure water of the SK detector in order to detect neutrons more efficiently. In this new experimental phase, SK-Gd, we can search for electron antineutrinos via inverse beta decay with efficient background rejection thanks to the high efficiency of the neutron tagging technique. In this paper, we report the result for the initial stage of SK-Gd, during 2020 August 26, and 2022 June 1 with a 22.5 × 552 kton · day exposure at 0.01% Gd mass concentration. No significant excess over the expected background in the observed events is found for the neutrino energies below 31.3 MeV. Thus, the flux upper limits are placed at the 90% confidence level. The limits and sensitivities are already comparable with the previous SK result with pure water (22.5 × 2970 kton · day) owing to the enhanced neutron tagging. Operation with Gd increased to 0.03% started in 2022 June.

Abstract: This study aimed to test the validity of the cross-cultural adapted Nutrition Literacy Assessment Instrument for Brazilians (NLit-Br). An observational cross-sectional study was performed in chronic disease clinics from the Brazilian Public Health System in two phases: (1) linguistic and cultural adaptation and (2) validity testing. Six registered dietitians and thirty adult patients diagnosed with at least one chronic disease participated in the study using the nutrition literacy assessment instrument (NLit-Br) and the short assessment of health literacy for Portuguese-speaking adults (SAHLPA-18). Sample descriptive variables: age, sex, race, income, education, and occupation. To adapt the instrument to the Brazilian Portuguese and Brazilian culture, we tested cognitive interviewing and the Scale Content Validity Index (S-CVI) with a group of dietitians and patients. To test the tool’s validity, health literacy (SAHLPA-18) was used as a construct that presents similarities and differences with nutrition literacy (NLit-Br). The correlation of NLit-Br and the SAHLPA-18 was tested (Spearman’s Rho). Internal consistency was measured by Kuder–Richardson Formula 20 (KR-20). The NLit-Br content validity (S-CVI = 0.85) and internal consistency (KR-20 = 0.868) were confirmed. Additionally, NLit-Br presented a significant and robust correlation with SAHLPA-18 (r = 0.665, p < 0.001). Therefore, the NLit-Br was considered a linguistic, cultural, and valid instrument to measure Brazilian’s nutrition literacy.

For this purpose, we considered a mixture model, in which times are modeled through the discrete Weibull distribution and the cure probability modeled with covariates by using the logit link function. Considering that the model is a mixture, the estimation of the parameters was performed by EM algorithm. The behavior of the estimating algorithm was tested with Monte Carlo simulation experiments and an application for real data was added.

Abstract: Introduction Adolescent eating patterns are characterised by high consumption of unhealthy foods, which has resulted in an increasing prevalence of overweight and chronic diseases. It is crucial to promote healthy eating habits, and nutritional interventions based on the transtheoretical model have been found to be especially effective. Mobile health strategies also seem promising for adolescents. This study aims to outline a smartphone intervention via WhatsApp for adolescents to promote healthy eating consumption, better nutritional knowledge, self-efficacy in the adoption of healthy practices and progress through the stages of change.Methods and analysis There will be three distinct groups in this randomised study: a general intervention group (GG), in which the participants will receive the same healthy eating messages, based on the Brazilian food guide; a tailored intervention group (TG), in which the participants will receive healthy eating messages based on their stage of change; and a control group (CG), in which participants will receive messages on a different theme. Possession of a smartphone, use of WhatsApp and being a senior student (16–19 years) from a public school of the Federal District of Brazil will be the study’s inclusion criteria. Rural schools will be excluded. The sample size estimated is 390 individuals: 38 in the GG, 314 in the TG and 38 in the CG. The intervention will last 6 weeks, with a daily message sent to the students. We will investigate nutritional knowledge, self-efficacy in the adoption of healthy eating practices, food consumption and stages of change using preintervention and postintervention questionnaires. Memorisation of the messages will be also assessed.Ethics and dissemination The study was approved by the University of Brasília, School of Health Sciences and Research Ethics Committee. At the end of the study, the participating schools will receive a printed report with the main results of the intervention.Trial registration number RBR-5b9jk7.

Abstract: Background Cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) is the most serious presentation of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the frequency and prognostic impact of CPA in young patients with AMI have been still unclear. Objectives This study aimed to characterize AMI in young patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention using large-scale nationwide all-comer registry data in Japan (J-PCI registry). Methods Data on risk factor profiles, clinical features, post-procedural complications, and in-hospital outcomes were reviewed within the J-PCI registry between 2014 and 2018. Results Among 213,297 patients with AMI, 23,985 (11.2%) were young (age, 20–49 years). Compared with the older group (age, 50–79 years; n=189,312), the young group included a higher number of men, smokers, patients with dyslipidemia, and patients with single-vessel disease, and a lower number of patients with hypertension and diabetes. Despite favorable clinical profiles, younger age was associated with a higher rate of presentation with CPA (Figure 1). Further, concomitant CPA was strongly associated with in-hospital mortality in the young group (Table 1). Conclusions Young patients with AMI presented a higher risk of CPA than older patients, which was strongly associated with in-hospital mortality. Abstract: Super-Kamiokande has been searching for neutrino bursts characteristic of core-collapse supernovae continuously, in real time, since the start of operations in 1996. The present work focuses on detecting more distant supernovae whose event rate may be too small to trigger in real time, but may be identified using an offline approach. The analysis of data collected from 2008 to 2018 found no evidence of distant supernovae bursts. This establishes an upper limit of 0.29 yr−1 on the rate of core-collapse supernovae out to 100 kpc at 90% C.L. For supernovae that fail to explode and collapse directly to black holes the limit reaches to 300 kpc.

Abstract: In order to improve Super-Kamiokande's neutron detection efficiency and to thereby increase its sensitivity to the diffuse supernova neutrino background flux, 13 tons of $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$ (gadolinium sulfate octahydrate) was dissolved into the detector's otherwise ultrapure water from July 14 to August 17, 2020, marking the start of the SK-Gd phase of operations. During the loading, water was continuously recirculated at a rate of 60 m$^3$/h, extracting water from the top of the detector and mixing it with concentrated $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$ solution to create a 0.02% solution of the Gd compound before injecting it into the bottom of the detector. A clear boundary between the Gd-loaded and pure water was maintained through the loading, enabling monitoring of the loading itself and the spatial uniformity of the Gd concentration over the 35 days it took to reach the top of the detector. During the subsequent commissioning the recirculation rate was increased to 120 m$^3$/h, resulting in a constant and uniform distribution of Gd throughout the detector and water transparency equivalent to that of previous pure-water operation periods. Using an Am-Be neutron calibration source the mean neutron capture time was measured to be $115\pm1$ $\mu$s, which corresponds to a Gd concentration of $111\pm2$ ppm, as expected for this level of Gd loading. Abstract: A well-documented, publicly available, global data set of surface ocean carbon dioxide (CO2) parameters has been called for by international groups for nearly two decades. The Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (SOCAT) project was initiated by the international marine carbon science community in 2007 with the aim of providing a comprehensive, publicly available, regularly updated, global data set of marine surface CO2, which had been subject to quality control (QC). Many additional CO2 data, not yet made public via the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC), were retrieved from data originators, public websites and other data centres. All data were put in a uniform format following a strict protocol. Quality control was carried out according to clearly defined criteria. Regional specialists performed the quality control, using state-of-the-art web-based tools, specially developed for accomplishing this global team effort. SOCAT version 1.5 was made public in September 2011 and holds 6.3 million quality controlled surface CO2 data points from the global oceans and coastal seas, spanning four decades (1968–2007). Three types of data products are available: individual cruise files, a merged complete data set and gridded products. With the rapid expansion of marine CO2 data collection and the importance of quantifying net global oceanic CO2 uptake and its changes, sustained data synthesis and data access are priorities.

Abstract: We present the development of neutron-tagging techniques in Super-Kamiokande IV using a neural network analysis. The detection efficiency of neutron capture on hydrogen is estimated to be 26%, with a mis-tag rate of 0.016 per neutrino event. The uncertainty of the tagging efficiency is estimated to be 9.0%. Measurement of the tagging efficiency with data from an Americium-Beryllium calibration agrees with this value within 10%. The tagging procedure was performed on 3,244.4 days of SK-IV atmospheric neutrino data, identifying 18,091 neutrons in 26,473 neutrino events. Abstract: The purpose of this prospective study was to assess the ability of plasma vascular endothelial growth factor-A short isoforms (pVEGF-Asi) to predict bevacizumab (BV) efficacy and to explore other circulating biomarkers in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients treated with modified FOLFOX6/XELOX plus BV (mFOLFOX6/XELOX + BV).Pre-treatment plasma samples were collected from 100 mCRC patients receiving first-line chemotherapy with mFOLFOX6/XELOX + BV. The plasma levels of 11 angiogenesis-associated molecules, including pVEGF-Asi and 22 cancer-associated gene mutations in circulating tumor DNA, were analyzed. For the primary endpoint, we assumed that the hazard ratio (HR) for progression-free survival (PFS) calculated using a Cox proportional hazards model was1.15, comparing patients with a high versus those with a low pVEGF-Asi level divided according to the median pVEGF-Asi value.The median value of pVEGF-Asi was 37 (range 6.5-262) pg/ml. The HR for PFS between the high and low pVEGF-Asi patient groups was 1.3 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.8-2.1; log rank, P = 0.25], which was larger than the predefined threshold of 1.15. The multivariate analysis demonstrated that PFS was significantly associated with plasma intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (pICAM-1) (≥190.0 versus190.0 ng/ml; HR 2.1; 95% CI 1.3-3.5), RAS (mutant versus wild; HR 2.5; 95% CI 1.5-4.3), and FBXW7 (mutant versus wild; HR 2.8; 95% CI 1.2-6.8), whereas overall survival was significantly associated with pICAM-1 (HR 2.0; 95% CI 1.1-3.7) and RAS (HR 2.6; 95% CI 1.5-4.6).The addition of BV was unable to compensate for the poor PFS associated with a high pVEGF-Asi level, suggesting that pVEGF-Asi is unlikely to be a good predictive biomarker of the efficacy of mFOLFOX6/XELOX + BV therapy. The clinical significance of circulating ICAM-1, mutant RAS, and mutant FBXW7 levels should be studied further.

Abstract: Tsunami shelters are of great importance to mitigate casualties by earthquake-induced killer waves, and the design guidelines for their practical design are recently developed by a task committee under the Japanese Cabinet Office, since great earthquakes significantly affecting coastal regions are expected to occur in the near future in Japan. Although they propose a practical design formula to calculate tsunami loads acting on shelters, it is derived primarily based on laboratory tests with scaled models but not on damage observations. It is therefore essential to examine the design loads through comparison between observed damage and structural strength. In December 2004, a huge scale Sumatra Earthquake caused extensive and catastrophic damage to 12 countries in the Indian Ocean. The author visited Sri Lanka and Thailand to survey structural damage due to tsunami, and investigated the relationship between damage to structures, lateral strengths computed based on their member properties, and observed tsunami heights. In the survey, 28 simple structures generally found in the affected coastal regions were investigated. The investigated results show that the design tsunami loads proposed in the guidelines are found rational to avoid serious damage but may not be conservative if the load amplification due to drifting debris is taken into account.

Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to find the relation between the adaptive significance level presented here and the sample size. We statisticians know of the inconsistency, or paradox, in the current classical tests of significance that are based on p-value statistics that are compared to the canonical significance levels (10%, 5%, and 1%): “Raise the sample to reject the null hypothesis” is the recommendation of some ill-advised scientists! This paper will show that it is possible to eliminate this problem of significance tests. We present here the beginning of a larger research project. The intention is to extend its use to more complex applications such as survival analysis, reliability tests, and other areas. The main tools used here are the Bayes factor and the extended Neyman–Pearson Lemma.

Abstract: We demonstrate a wavelength-tunable all-optical flip-flop (AOFF) based on a multimode-interference (MMI) bistable laser diode (BLD) with distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs). The wavelength tuning can be achieved by the band-filling effect and the free-carrier plasma effect with carrier injections to the DBRs. The tuning range of 3.1 nm will enable flexible and reconfigurable design of future photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Since the DBR-MMI-BLD does not require cleaved facets for its operation, multiple AOFFs can be monolithically integrated on a single PIC. In addition, the device has a large operable bandwidth of wider than 34 nm, even when we tune the lasing wavelength. A dynamic flip-flop operation is also demonstrated with rising and falling times of faster than 280 and 228 ps, respectively. No waveform distortion is observed, even when we tune the lasing wavelength.

30. Association of adipose tissue insulin resistance and serum free fatty acid levels with the incidence of type 2 diabetes: a retrospective cohort study

Abstract: Background Insulin resistance in adipose tissue attenuates the suppression of lipolysis, leading to increased free fatty acid (FFA) release. The excess FFA may be involved in the development of type 2 diabetes. Purpose In this study, we investigated the association of adipose tissue insulin resistance and serum free fatty acid levels with the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Methods This is an observational study involving 6800 participants (3451 women, mean age 69.2 years) without diabetes who underwent 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at baseline. The participants were divided into the obesity and nonobesity groups on the basis of body mass index of ≥25 and Results Over a mean 5.3-year follow-up period, 485 participants developed type 2 diabetes. Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that high adipo-IR was a significant predicator for incident type 2 diabetes in the obesity group, but not in nonobesity group. AUCFFA, HOMA-IR, and Matsuda index were significantly associated with incident type 2 diabetes in both the two groups (Table). Conclusion Serum FFA levels after glucose loading predict the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Adipose tissue insulin resistance was associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes in individuals with obesity, but not in individuals without obesity. 31. Association of common carotid artery measurements with the incidence of hypertension: a retrospective cohort study

Abstract: Background Diameter, intima–media thickness (IMT), and flow parameters, including resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI), in the common carotid artery (CCA) are markers of arterial remodeling, atherosclerosis, and vascular resistance, respectively. These CCA parameters have usually been evaluated as markers of target organ damage. Little is known about whether these parameters predict a new onset of hypertension. Purpose In this study, we investigated the association of CCA parameters including IMT, diameter, RI, and PI with the incidence of hypertension. Methods This is an observational study involving 1249 participants (656 women, mean age 69.6 years) without hypertension, who underwent carotid artery ultrasonography at baseline. The participants were divided into elderly group (defined as age ≥70 years) and a middle-aged group. We defined obesity as BMI ≥25 kg/m2. CCA diameter was defined as the distance between the adventitia–media interface on the near wall and the media–adventitia interface on the far wall. IMT was defined as the distance between the lumen–intima and media–adventitia interfaces. RI was calculated as [peak systolic velocity (PSV)- end-diastolic velocity (EDV)]/PSV. PI was calculated as (PSV-EDV)/Vmean. Larger CCA diameter, increased IMT, high RI, and high PI were determined based on the optimal cutoff values from ROC curve analysis. Results Over a mean 5.1-year follow-up period, 524 participants developed hypertension. Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that larger CCA diameter and increased IMT were significant predicators for incident hypertension in elderly group, but not in middle-aged group. High RI, and high PI were significant predicators for incident hypertension in both the two groups. CCA diameter, IMT, and RI predicted the incidence of hypertension only in nonobesity group, whereas PI predicted it in both obesity and nonobesity groups (Table). Conclusion CCA parameters assessed by ultrasonography are useful markers to estimate the risk of hypertension. In particular, PI is a better predictor for the incidence of hypertension. However, it is unclear whether the diagnostic performance of RFR for detecting functional ischemia is similar regardless of the degree of renal function. The aim of this study is to compare the diagnostic performance of RFR based on renal function. Method This study was a prospectively enrolled observational study. A total of 265 consecutive patients with 373 intermediate lesions were enrolled in this study. There were classified into three groups according to renal function (Group 1: eGFR ≥60 mL/min/1.73m2; Group 2: 30 mL/min/1.73m2 ≤eGFR Results Of 373 lesions, the median age was 70.1±11.0 years. Functional significance was observed in 153 lesions (41.0%) of all lesions. RFR showed a significant correlation with FFR in each group (Group 1; r2=0.63 [p Conclusion The diagnostic performance of RFR was different based on renal function. During RFR acquisition, the degree of renal function could influence concordance with FFR, and should be taken into account when interpreting RFR. 37. Single Mode Operation of 1.5-µm Waveguide Optical Isolators Based on the Nonreciprocal-loss Phenomenon

Abstract: An important element for developing photonic integrated circuits is waveguide optical isolators that can be monolithically combined with other waveguide-based devices such as lasers. One promising way of creating such waveguide isolators is by using the phenomenon of nonreciprocal loss in magneto-optical waveguides. Making use of this phenomenon, we have been developing TE- and TM-mode waveguide isolators operating at 1.5-m telecommunication band. As a fromagnetic material for the magneto-optical waveguide isolator, manganese pnictides such as MnAs are more superior than ordinary ferromagnetic metals because they can be formed on GaAs, InP, and related materials using semiconductors manufacturing process. Although MnAs is not common material at present for integrated optics, it will soon bring technical innovation in functional magneto-optic devices for large-scale photonic integrated circuits.

Abstract: Summary To elucidate mutation spectrum and genotype-phenotype correlations in Japanese patients with OI, we conducted comprehensive genetic analyses using NGS, as this had not been analyzed comprehensively in this patient population. Most mutations were located on COL1A1 and COL1A2. Glycine substitutions in COL1A1 resulted in the severe phenotype. Introduction Most cases of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) are caused by mutations in COL1A1 or COL1A2, which encode α chains of type I collagen. However, mutations in at least 16 other genes also cause OI. The mutation spectrum in Japanese patients with OI has not been comprehensively analyzed, as it is difficult to identify using classical Sanger sequencing. In this study, we aimed to reveal the mutation spectrum and genotype-phenotype correlations in Japanese patients with OI using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Methods We designed a capture panel for sequencing 15 candidate OI genes and 19 candidate genes that are associated with bone fragility or Wnt signaling. Using NGS, we examined 53 Japanese patients with OI from unrelated families. Results Pathogenic mutations were detected in 43 out of 53 individuals. All mutations were heterozygous. Among the 43 individuals, 40 variants were identified including 15 novel mutations. We found these mutations in COL1A1 (n = 30, 69.8%), COL1A2 (n = 12, 27.9%), and IFITM5 (n = 1, 2.3%). Patients with glycine substitution on COL1A1 had a higher frequency of fractures and were more severely short-statured. Although no significant genotype-phenotype correlation was observed for bone mineral density, the trabecular bone score was significantly lower in patients with glycine substitutions. Conclusion We identified pathogenic mutations in 81% of our Japanese patients with OI. Most mutations were located on COL1A1 and COL1A2. This study revealed that glycine substitutions on COL1A1 resulted in the severe phenotype among Japanese patients with OI. 40. Quasi-Real-Time and High-Resolution Spatiotemporal Distribution of Ocean Anthropogenic CO2

Abstract: Increasing marine uptake of anthropogenic CO2 (C-ant) causes global ocean acidification. To obtain a high-resolution spatiotemporal distribution of oceanic carbon chemistry, we developed new parameterizations of the seawater total alkalinity, and dissolved inorganic carbon from the ocean's surface to 2,000-m depth by using dissolved oxygen, water temperature (T), salinity (S), and pressure (P) data. Using the values of total alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon predicted by dissolved oxygen, T, S, and P data derived from autonomous biogeochemical Argo floats, we described the distribution of oceanic C-ant in the 2000s in the subarctic North Pacific at high spatiotemporal resolution. The C-ant was found about 300 m deeper than during the 1990s; its average inventory to 2,000 m was 24.8 +/- 10.2 mol/m(2), about 20% higher than the 1990s average. Future application of parameterizations to global biogeochemical Argo floats data should allow the detailed global mapping of spatiotemporal distributions of CO2 parameters. Plain Language Summary:Age Cy Ocean absorbs the increasing atmospheric CO2 by human activities from 1750s and encourages global ocean acidification. To obtain the human-activity-derived CO2 in the subarctic North Pacific in a high resolution, we applied our empirical ocean carbon chemistry equations using other hydrographic parameters to autonomous biogeochemical Argo floats data. The amount of human-activity-derived CO2 in this region was found about 300 m deeper than during the 1990s and about 20% higher than the 1990s average. Our method allows the development of a system for monitoring long-term trend changes in ocean carbon chemistry similar to other time series stations.

Abstract: Self-excited chatter is more likely to occur during the turning process of a thin-walled cylindrical workpiece because of low rigidity. Self-excited chatter is classified into regenerative chatter and mode coupling chatter. Compared with research on regenerative chatter, there is little research on the countermeasure against mode coupling chatter. The application of the tuned mass damper is well known for one of the passive damping techniques. Using the tuned mass damper can increase the critical width of cut at the onset of regenerative chatter. In the present work, the effect of the tuned mass dampers attached to the thin-walled cylindrical workpiece on mode coupling chatter generated in turning process is experimentally investigated. The proposed tuned mass damper is a cantilever beam form and is attached to the rotating workpiece with a double sided tape. Since it was confirmed that the vibration mode of mode coupling chatter had three antinodes, three tuned mass dampers were arranged at regular intervals in the circumferential direction of the cylindrical workpiece. As a result of conducting the turning tests using three tuned mass dampers, mode coupling chatter vibration totally controlled.

Abstract: How race continues to shape the citizenship and everyday lives of later-generation JapaneseAmericansJapanese Americans are seen as the “model minority,” a group that has fully assimilated and excelled within the US. Yet third- and fourth-generation Japanese Americans continue to report feeling marginalized within the predominantly white communities they call home. Japanese Americans and the Racial Uniform explores this apparent contradiction, challenging the way society understands the role of race in social and cultural integration.To explore race and the everyday practices of citizenship, Dana Y. Nakano begins at an unlikely site, Japanese Village and Deer Park, a now defunct Japan-themed amusement park in suburban Southern California. Drawing from extensive interviews with the park's Japanese American employees as well as photographic imagery, Nakano shows how the employees'race acted as part of their work uniform and magnified their sense of alienation from their white peers and the park's white visitors. While the racial perception of Japanese Americans as forever foreigners made them ideal employees for Deer Park, the same stigma continues to marginalizes Japanese Americans beyond the place and time of the amusement park. Into the present day, third and fourth generation Japanese Americans share feelings of racialized non-belonging and yearning for community. Japanese Americans and the Racial Uniform pushes us to rethink the persistent recognition of racial markers—the racial body as a visible, ever-present uniform—and how it continues to impact claims on an American identity and the lived experience of citizenship.

Abstract: Hyper-Kamiokande is the next generation underground water Cherenkov detector that builds on the highly successful Super-Kamiokande experiment. The detector which has an 8.4~times larger effective volume than its predecessor will be located along the T2K neutrino beamline and utilize an upgraded J-PARC beam with 2.6~times beam power. Hyper-K's low energy threshold combined with the very large fiducial volume make the detector unique, that is expected to acquire an unprecedented exposure of 3.8~Mton$\cdot$year over a period of 20~years of operation. Hyper-Kamiokande combines an extremely diverse science program including nucleon decays, long-baseline neutrino oscillations, atmospheric neutrinos, and neutrinos from astrophysical origins. The scientific scope of this program is highly complementary to liquid-argon detectors for example in sensitivity to nucleon decay channels or supernova detection modes. Hyper-Kamiokande construction has started in early 2020 and the experiment is expected to start operations in 2027. The Hyper-Kamiokande collaboration is presently being formed amongst groups from 19 countries including the United States, whose community has a long history of making significant contributions to the neutrino physics program in Japan. Abstract: We study radiative cooling processes of ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}^{+}$ ions isolated in vacuum by taking advantage of the extended storage times possible with a cryogenic electrostatic ion storage ring. The temporal evolution of the internal state populations of the ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}^{+}$ ions after being stored in the ring was state-selectively measured by action spectroscopy via a predissociation process using a wavelength-tunable pulsed laser. The rotational level population remained unchanged up to about 200 s after ion storage, which is consistent with theoretical predictions and the small permanent dipole moment. On the other hand, we found that depletion of the vibrational excited states in the NN-O stretching mode proceeded within 5 s, while a noticeable increase of the ground-state population was not observed. This implies that the initial populations of the vibrational excited states are relatively small. We discuss such behavior in the context of the initial population distribution of ions extracted from the ion source with a simulation based on simple cascade modeling.

Abstract: We have developed an automatic visual egg inspection system for poultry farmers. The egg inspection system used by the aggregator in Japan is a large-scale system, and it is difficult for general poultry farmers to introduce a similar system. Under such circumstances, the small-scale automatic inspection system for small scale poultry farmers is desired. The developed system can detect the defective eggs moving on the conveyor in the same environment as human worker. In this system, the appearance of egg is detected by image sensor and its dirt or cracks are detected using convolutional neural network (CNN) with deep learning. Moreover, the system can indicate the result on the screen within very short time with high accuracy. The effectiveness of the proposed system is confirmed by experiments.
