In recent years, natural rosin derivatives have gained significant importance in the production of sustainable bio‐based materials, including thermoplastic road marking paint (TRMP). This study evaluates the use of sustainable natural glycerol ester rosins as bio‐based binders in TRMP formulations, specifically focusing on pine, wood, and tall oil rosins. Various analytical techniques, such as FT‐IR, TGA, MALDI‐TOF‐MS and GPC‐HPLC, were utilized to analyze both unmodified and glycerol ester rosins. Standard tests, including acid number (mg KOH/g) ASTM D 465‐05 and softening point (°C) ASTM E 28‐99, were also conducted on the samples. The optimum synthesis conditions for glycerol ester rosins (GER) were determined as follows: a rosin/glycerol molar ratio of 2.54, catalyst/rosin weight ratio of 0.5%, and antioxidant/rosin weight ratio of 1.0%. GPC‐HPLC analysis revealed average esterification reaction yields of over 90.85%. Furthermore, TRMPs underwent various tests, including gloss factor (β), chromaticity coordinates (x, y), UVB aging, and softening point (°C). The results demonstrated that GERs exhibited superior performance, especially in the UVB aging test, with all TRMPs classified as UV1 type. These findings highlight the promising potential of GERs derived from different types of rosins in producing sustainable, environmentally friendly, and bio‐based next‐generation TRMPs. Iso-amyl ester rosin was synthesized and investigated for its potential utilization in medium density fiberboard (MDF) production. The isoamyl alcohol, the main starting material for the synthesis of isoamyl ester rosin, was obtained through the fractional distillation of fusel oil, a byproduct of bioethanol production. The optimum condition for the iso-amyl ester rosin synthesis was determined as: rosin (165 mmol), isoamyl alcohol (413 mmol), P-TSA/rosin 1.5% (w/w), and commercial additive/rosin 0.15% (w/w). The esterification reaction was followed by FT-IR and mass analysis. For MDF production, a water-repellent material, commercial paraffin (1.5% w/w relative to the dry fiber weight), iso-amyl ester rosin (1.5% and 2.0%; w/w), and unmodified rosin (1.5% and 2.0% w/w) were separately used. In addition, fresh wood fibers, 10% w/w urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesive (relative to the total dry fiber weight), and a 25% aqueous solution of ammonium chloride (as the hardening agent for the UF adhesive, at 0.5% w/w based on the solid adhesive content) were used. MDFs underwent various physical and mechanical tests. Isoamyl ester rosin showed promising results based on the analysis. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the publication rates of physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty training theses, which are required to complete a residency in Türkiye, and determine the factors that affect publication. Materials and methods: Residency theses involved in this descriptive study were detected from the database of Higher Education Council Thesis Center (tez.yok.gov.tr) between January 2010 and December 2020. Publication of theses and date of publication were investigated by the writer's and supervisor's names on PubMed and Google Scholar. Results: Three hundred eighty-eight of 1,130 theses were turned into publications. Two hundred seventy-seven (24.5%) were published in SCI (Science Citation Index)/SCI Expanded indexed journals. The publication rates of residents were 47.1% in private universities, 34.2% in public universities, and 32.3% in training and research hospitals. The trainees who published their theses were more likely to become associate and assistant professors. Conclusion: Although approximately one-third of the theses defended were published, this rate is insufficient for sharing the knowledge. Considering that publishing their theses affected the residents' current academic careers positively, supervisors should provide the residents supportive facilitation to give the knowledge in research and publish their theses. Objectives: This study aims to examine the effect of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on gait parameters and lower extremity motor recovery in a more specific sample of individuals with chronic and traumatic incomplete spinal cord injury (iSCI). Patients and methods: This double-blind, sham-controlled, randomized study included a total of 28 individuals (20 males, 8 females; mean age: 35.7±12.1 years; range, 18 to 45 years) with chronic (>1 year) traumatic iSCI. The participants were randomly allocated to either sham rTMS group (n=14) or real rTMS group (n=14). We compared the groups based on the lower extremity motor scores (LEMS), the temporal-spatial gait measurements using three-dimensional gait analysis, the Walking Index for SCI-II (WISCI-II), and 10-m walking test at baseline, three weeks (post-treatment) and five weeks (follow-up) after the treatment. Results: The real rTMS group revealed a significant improvement in walking speed, LEMS score, and 10-m walking test after the treatment compared to baseline (p=0.001, p=0.002, and p=0.023, respectively). Changes in the LEMS score were significantly increased in the real rTMS group compared to the sham group at both three and five weeks (p=0.001 and p=0.001, respectively). No significant difference was observed in the other variables between the groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Our study findings support the therapeutic effectiveness of rTMS on motor recovery in chronic iSCI. The rTMS can be used as an adjuvant therapy to conventional physiotherapy in the rehabilitation of patients with iSCI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of the current study was to compare the activity levels and radiological outcomes of patients who underwent neuromuscular scoliosis (NMS) surgery with and without pelvic fixation. Materials and Methods: Thirty-three NMS patients aged 10-20 years with a pelvic obliquity (PO) of 15° or more and a follow-up of at least 24 months who underwent posterior surgery for NMS at two different centers were included in the study. Out of the 33 patients, 16 without pelvic fixation (WoPF) and 17 with PF (WPF) underwent posterior spinal surgery. Radiological results and independent movement levels according to the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) were compared in the two groups. Results: The follow-up period of the patients was 46.69±21.95 months in WoPF and 43.88±20.05 months in WPF, and there was no significant difference between the two groups in postoperative radiological values (p=0.763). In the PO values, postoperative improvement was more pronounced in the WPF group (WoPF: 14.31°±8.292; WPF: 9.35°±5.338), but there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p=0.087). Patients' GMFCS levels were higher in the WPF group than in the WoPF group (WoPF: 2.75±1.29; WPF: 3.76±1.03). GMFCS levels of patients in both groups did not change and were similar to pre-operative levels. Conclusion: The study demonstrated that NMS surgery with PF was not significantly different clinically and radiologically from surgery without PF. Considering PF-related complications in NMS surgery, surgery without PF may be an option in NMS patients with PO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
