Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common comorbidity in patients with prostate cancer. Radiotherapy was reported to induce acute and late side effects in patients with DM due to vascular damage. Moreover, some studies have shown that metformin, an oral antidiabetic drug, can reduce biochemical and disease recurrence in patients with prostate cancer. This study aimed to evaluate retrospectively the effect of metformin on biochemical disease control and to observe the acute and late side effects of prostate cancer treated with radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: This study enrolled 94 patients who received radical radiotherapy between 2010 and 2017. However, out of 22 patients with DM, 17 received metformin and five received metformin plus insulin treatment. Biochemical recurrence-free survival (bRFS), overall survival, and side effects were assessed between patients with and without DM. Results: The median follow-up time was 57 (15-128) months. The 5-year bRFS rate in patients with and without DM were 100% and 89.2%, respectively (p=0.10). Acute grade 1-2 side effects were observed in all patients with DM, while 56 (78%) patients without DM had acute side effects, and the difference is significant (p=0.02). Acute grade 3 genitourinary and gastrointestinal toxicity was found in one patient without DM, whereas late grade 3 gastrointestinal toxicity was observed in one patient with DM. Conclusion: Although patients with DM were found to have better bRFS than patients without DM, we could not show the benefit of metformin, and the difference was not significant. Amaç: Bu çalışmada Türkiye'deki Radyasyon Onkolojisi merkezlerinin hangi benign hastalıklarda tedavi uyguladığı ve uygulanan radyoterapi (RT) doz ve şemalarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Merkezlere TROD web sitesi ve e-mail aracılığı ile e-form gönderildi. E-form ile merkezlerin Ocak 2015-Aralık 2019 tarihleri arası 5 yılda RT uyguladığı toplam hasta sayısı, benign hastalıklar için RT uyguladığı hasta sayısı, RT uygulanan benign hastalıklar ve RT doz ve şemaları incelendi. Bulgular: Geri bildirimde bulunan 15 (%56) üniversite, 8 (%29) devlet ve 4 (%15) özel hastane olmak üzere 27 merkezin verileri değerlendirildi. Beş yılda RT uygulanan toplam hasta sayısı 118.878 (1508-7820, medyan 4600), benign hastalık tanısı ile RT uygulanan hasta sayısı 5149 (9-2437, medyan 42) olarak bulundu. RT uygulanan benign hastalıkların oranı %4.33 olarak hesaplandı. En çok RT uygulanan benign hastalıkların meninjiom 1673 (%32.5), plantar fasiit 1193 (%23.2), schwannom 753 (%14.6), AVM 519 (%10), hipofiz adenomu 331 (%6.4) olduğu görüldü. Dört merkezin, biri 1000'den fazla olmak üzere, intrakraniyal radyocerrahiyi yaygın olarak kullandığı saptandı. Benzer şekilde 5 merkezin, biri 1000'den fazla olmak üzere, plantar fasiitte yaygın olarak RT uyguladığı görüldü. Makular dejenerasyon ve koroid hemanjiom için radyoterapinin ayrı ayrı sadece birer merkezde uygulandığı saptandı. Benign hastalıklar için en çok uygulanan RT doz ve şemaları tabloda verilmiştir. Sonuç: Ülkemizde benign hastalıklarda radyoterapinin en çok intrakraniyal patolojilerde radyocerrahi olarak ve plantar fasiitte uygulandığı görüldü. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
