Recent studies on microencapsulated self-healing cementitious materials have primarily focused on the particle size and preparation methods of the microcapsules. However, there has been limited attention paid to the microscopic aspects, such as the selection of curing agents and the curing duration of these materials. In this study, urea-formaldehyde resin/epoxy resin E-51 microcapsules were synthesized through in situ polymerization. This research investigates the feasibility of self-healing from a molecular mechanism perspective and evaluates the repair performance of microencapsulated self-healing cement mortar with varying microcapsule concentrations, curing agent types, and curing ages. The findings demonstrate that the microcapsule shells bond effectively with the cementitious matrix, with radial distribution function peaks all located within 3.5 Å. The incorporation of microcapsules enhanced the tensile strength of the modified cement mortar by 116.83% and increased the failure strain by 110%, indicating improved adhesion and mechanical properties. The restorative agent released from the microcapsule core provided greater strength after curing compared to the uncured state. Although the overall strength of the microencapsulated self-healing cement mortar decreased with higher microcapsule concentrations, the repair efficiency improved. The strength recovery rate of 28-day aged modified cement mortar had a significant improvement with the addition of X and Y curing agents, respectively.

Abstract Background This study aimed to understand the incidence and clinical significance of acalculous cholecystitis in patients with acute hepatitis E (HE). Patients and methods A single center enrolled 114 patients with acute HE. All patients underwent imaging of the gallbladder, and patients with gallstones and cholecystectomy were excluded. Results Acalculous cholecystitis was found in 66 patients (57.89%) with acute HE. The incidence in males was 63.95%, which was significantly higher than in females (39.29%) (P = 0.022). The mean length of hospital stay and the incidence of spontaneous peritonitis in patients with cholecystitis (20.12 ± 9.43 days and 9.09%, respectively) were significantly higher than those in patients without cholecystitis (12.98 ± 7.26 days and 0%, respectively) (P

Abstract Glioma is the most common and fatal primary brain tumor in humans. Myosin binding protein H (MYBPH), which was first identified as an important myofibrillar constituent of vertebrate skeletal and cardiac muscles, reduces cell motility and metastasis. However, its role in gliomas remains unclear. We evaluated the expression of MYBPH in glioma using Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis ( http://gepia.cancer-pku.cn/ ) and Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas ( https://www.cgga.org.cn/ ). The results showed that MYBPH was highly expressed in glioma tissues. Moreover, MYBPH expression was significantly associated with high tumor aggressiveness and poor outcomes in glioma patients. Mechanistically, the results suggested that MYBPH might promote tumor progression by improving tumor invasion and migration. Our results establish MYBPH as an important prognostic biomarker that could be considered a potential epigenetic and immunotherapeutic target for treatment. We showed that MYBPH is a novel biomarker that is variably expressed in glioblastoma (GBM). The association of high MYBPH expression with poor prognosis in newly diagnosed GBM patients and increased expression in recurrent GBM is indicative of its role in tumor aggressiveness.

In order to improve the smoothness of the spiral bevel gear transmission system， the changing law of gear vibration characteristics under different load transmission errors is studied， the finite element model of the spiral bevel gear transmission system is established with the MASTA software as a tool， and the result is obtained by changing the load different load-bearing transmission errors. Taking the vibration acceleration waterfall diagram， vibration acceleration amplitude spectrum and noise curve diagram as objects， the gear vibration characteristics under different loads are compared and analyzed. The results show that， the vibration and noise of the gear will tend to decrease when the load transmission error fluctuation decreases. The analysis results provide a reliable basis for improving the stability of the gear transmission system.

The tooth surface grid node coordinates are accurately calculated by the tooth surface equation. According to the density requirements of the grid nodes， the grid nodes are evenly divided， the tooth root transition curve mesh is encrypted， and the finite element software is directly imported to generate an accurate finite element model of the spiral bevel gear meshing transmission. Tooth surfaces with different geometric transmission errors are designed， and the loaded tooth contact analysis is performed by using finite element software，and the contact stress and loaded transmission error of gear pairs with different geometric transmission errors are analyzed. Based on the modal superposition method， the vibration response analysis of the spiral bevel gear is used to obtain the vibration displacement， velocity， acceleration. The comparison results show that under the load of 200 N·m， as the geometric transmission error increases， the degree of edge contact decreases， the fluctuation of the upper and lower amplitudes of the loaded transmission error decreases by 44%， and the corresponding vibration displacement， speed and acceleration decrease， effectively reduce deformation and vibration.

Abstract Multi-beam antenna technology can effectively mitigate the impact of deep fading caused by multipath propagation on communication quality through spatial diversity and increase the reliability of wireless mobile communication systems. At the same time, the multi-beam antenna with beamforming algorithm as the key technology can realize spatial division multiple access (SDMA) by automatically adapting the weight vector of the antenna array, enhance the expected value, and suppress the interference. A novel beamforming technology increases the inner circle beam width and reduces the outer ring beam width to minimize the difference between the internal and external cell link SNR. This study considers reducing the number of cells by reasonably allocating beams, which satisfies both the requirements of coverage link quality and the difficulty of forming antenna beams. This research subject applies the scheme and strategy of improving multi-beam antenna technology in the same system. Under the requirement of cell coverage and partitioning, the related technologies and strategies combining multi-beamforming technology and space-time block code technology can obtain high coding gain and diversity gain without sacrificing bandwidth and effectivelyx improve the wireless systematic capacity.

The clinical controversy of rosiglitazone as a hypoglycemic agent is potentially associated with heart failure, mainly due to its potent activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ). PPARγ partial agonists showed superior pharmacological profiles to rosiglitazone. This study compared differences in cardiac morphology and function of the PPARγ partial agonist CMHX008 with rosiglitazone. High-fat diet (HFD) induced obese mice, ob/ob mice and cardiomyocytes overexpressing PPARγ2 were treated with CMHX008 or rosiglitazone. Heart function, myocardial morphology, and hypertrophy-related gene expression were examined. Clinical information from patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who had taken rosiglitazone and undergone Doppler echocardiography was collected. HFD and ob/ob mice significantly developed cardiac contractile dysfunction, with upregulated PPARγ2 protein levels in heart tissues. Cardiomyocytes of HFD and ob/ob mice were disorderly arranged, the cell areas expanded, and collagen accumulated. In vitro cardiomyocytes overexpressing PPARγ2 displayed obvious structural abnormalities and high mRNA levels of ANP and BNP, critical cardiac hypertrophy-related genes. HFD-fed mice treated with rosiglitazone or CMHX008 had significantly improved cardiac function, but rosiglitazone induced higher expression of ANP and βMHC and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, while CMHX008 did not. Patients with T2DM taking rosiglitazone exhibited increased thickness of the posterior wall and the ventricular septum, suggesting cardiac hypertrophy. Our findings show that diabetic cardiomyopathy was associated with ectopic overexpression of PPARγ2. The full agonist rosiglitazone prevents cardiac dysfunction at the expense of compensatory hypertrophy, while the partial agonist CMHX008 shared a comparable protective effect without altering the structure of cardiomyocytes.

BackgroundThe intensity of electrical acupoint stimulation such as electroacupuncture (EA) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is regulated by the observation of skin shivering or the participant’s comfort response. However, the specific intensity and spatial scope following EA or TENS stimulation are unclear.ObjectiveThis study aimed to test the stimulatory current intensities of lower and upper sensation thresholds in TENS- and EA-based treatment of Bell’s palsy patients. Also, the spatial scope of the stimulation at these current intensities was simulated and measured quantitatively.MethodsA total of 19 Bell’s palsy patients were recruited. Six acupoints on the affected side of the face were stimulated by TENS and EA successively at 30-min intervals. During the stimulation, the current intensity was regulated gradually from 0 to 20 mA, and we simultaneously measured the lower (sensory) and upper (tolerability) sensations. After the treatment by TENS and EA, the modified Chinese version of the Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scales (C-MMASS) was applied to survey the de-qi sensations during stimulation. Additionally, we analyzed the correlation between current intensities and C-MMASS and comfort scores. Finite element models were established to depict the spatial distribution of electric field gradients at the lower and upper thresholds.ResultsThe mean sensory and tolerability thresholds of TENS were 3.91–4.37 mA and 12.33–16.35 mA, respectively. The median sensory and tolerability thresholds of EA were 0.2 mA and 2.0–3.2 mA, respectively. We found a significant correlation between total C-MMASS scores and the current intensities at the tolerability threshold of TENS. The finite element model showed that the activated depths of TENS and EA at the lower threshold were 3.8 and 7 mm, respectively, whereas those at the upper threshold were both 13.8 mm. The cross-sectional diameter of the activated area during TENS was 2.5–4 times larger than that during EA.ConclusionThis pilot study provided a method for exploring the current intensity at which the de-qi sensations can be elicited by TENS or EA. The finite element analysis potentially revealed the spatial scope of the electrical stimulation at a specific current intensity.

Abstract Channel allocation is the prerequisite for the HAPS (high-altitude platform station) 5G communication network to transmit information. An intelligent wireless channel allocation algorithm for HAPS 5G massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) system based on reinforcement learning was proposed. Q-learning reinforcement learning algorithm and the back-propagation neural network were combined, which enabled HAPS 5G massive MIMO systems autonomous learn according to the environment and allocate channel resources of the system efficiently. Agents perceive the state information in the channel environment through continuous interaction with the channel environment, learn from the environment state to the action mapping, and use the back-propagation neural network for learning training, use the neural network instead of the Q value table, and train the network with each Q update as a training example to update the evaluation function. It effectively improves the overall performance of the system.

Overfeeding in early life is associated with obesity and insulin resistance in adulthood. In the present study, a well-characterized mouse model was used to investigate whether neonatal overfeeding increases susceptibility to the development of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) following feeding with a methionine and choline- deficient (MCD) diet. Neonatal overfeeding was induced by adjusting litters to 3 pups per dam (small litter size, SL) in contrast to 10 pups per dam as control (normal litter size, NL). At 11 weeks of age, mice were fed with standard (S) or a methionine and choline-deficient (MCD) diet for 4 weeks. Glucose tolerance tests, tissue staining with haematoxylin and eosin, oil-red O and immunohistochemistry for F4/80, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting were performed. Compared with NL mice, SL mice exhibited higher body weight gain from 2 weeks of age throughout adulthood, and more profound glucose intolerance as adults. Sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c and fatty acid synthase mRNA expression levels in liver were upregulated in SL mice at 3 weeks of age. MCD diet induced typical NASH, especially in SL-MCD mice, evidenced by marked fat accumulation, macrovescular steatosis, ballooned hepatocytes, inflammatory cells infiltration and tumour necrosis factor-α mRNA upregulation in the liver, as well as increased alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels in the serum. There were no significant differences in liver fibrosis in all groups. Overfeeding during early life exhibited effect with administration of MCD diet in inducing adverse effects on the metabolic function and in promoting the progression of NASH in mice, possibly mediated through dysregulated lipid metabolism in hepatocytes and aggravated hepatic inflammation. Facial muscle activities are essential for the appearance and communication of human beings. Therefore, exploring the activation patterns of facial muscles can help understand facial neuromuscular disorders such as Bell’s palsy. Given the irregular shape of the facial muscles as well as their different locations, it should be difficult to detect the activities of whole facial muscles with a few electrodes. In this study, a high-density surface electromyogram (HD sEMG) system with 90 electrodes was used to record EMG signals of facial muscles in both healthy and Bell’s palsy subjects when they did different facial movements. The electrodes were arranged in rectangular arrays covering the forehead and cheek regions of the face. The muscle activation patterns were shown on maps, which were constructed from the Root Mean Square (RMS) values of all the 90-channel EMG recordings. The experimental results showed that the activation patterns of facial muscles were distinct during doing different facial movements and the activated muscle regions could be clearly observed. Moreover, two features of the activation patterns, 2D correlation coefficient (corr2) and Centre of Gravity (CG) were extracted to quantify the spatial symmetry and the location of activated muscle regions respectively. Furthermore, the deviation of activated muscle regions on the paralyzed side of a face compared to the healthy side was quantified by calculating the distance between two sides of CGs. The results revealed that corr2 of the activated facial muscle region (classified into forehead region and cheek region) in Bell’s palsy subjects was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than that in healthy subjects, while CG distance of activated facial region in Bell’s palsy subjects was significantly (p < 0.05) higher than that in healthy subjects. The correlation between corr2 of these regions and Bell’s palsy [assessed by the Facial Nerve Grading Scale (FNGS) 2.0] was also significant (p < 0.05) in Bell’s palsy subjects. The spatial information on activated muscle regions may be useful in the diagnosis and treatment of Bell’s palsy in the future.

A method is proposed to manufacture spiral bevel gear by duplex spread blade method based on 4-axis CNC milling machine. Firstly, the geometry parameters and machine-tool settings are comprehensively considered. To meet with the tooth taper, a new way is raised to select reference point. Then machine-tool settings are calculated that only first-order mesh performance is guaranteed in the reference point. Therefore conjugate tooth surface is modified by a surface represented as second-order polynomial to optimize mesh performance, as a result a target tooth surface is established, and according to the sensitivity matrix the machine-tool settings are corrected. Finally, the proposed method is illustrated by a numerical example to reveal it’s effective and feasible.

Ceramsite particles are an important component of lightweight ceramsite concrete wall panels, and the density of the aggregate is much lower than the density of the slurry. It is generally accepted that there are inhomogeneities in the distribution of ceramsite particles in wall panels. Ceramsite concrete wallboard material is a research hotspot in the field of fabricated building materials at home and abroad; however, there is no effective way to quantify their inhomogeneity. Based on the application of image recognition technology in concrete homogeneity, a method to quantitatively evaluate the distribution of light aggregates in wall panels was developed. Three commercial lightweight vitrified concrete wall panels were cut into 324 cubes. The four cut surfaces of each specimen were photographed to analyze the proportion of ceramsite particle area, while the density, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and compressive strength of the specimens were tested. The results demonstrated that the image analysis method could effectively describe the homogeneity of the panels. The proportion of particle area of aggregate in the section of the cube had a strong correlation with the compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and density, and there was an obvious linear relationship with the height of the plate where the cube was located. Based on this, the correlation equations of the proportion of particle area of aggregate, density, ultrasonic pulse velocity, compressive strength, and the height where the specimen was located were proposed. The quantitative parameters of the relevant properties of the wall panels were also obtained: the maximum difference between the proportion of particle area of the aggregate was 24%, the maximum difference between the density at the top and bottom of the wall panels was 115 kg/m3, and the maximum difference in the strength reached 5 MPa.

With the rapid development of urbanization, many new buildings are erected, and old ones are demolished and/or recycled. Thus, the reuse of building materials and improvements in reuse efficiency have become hot research topics. In recent years, scholars around the world have worked on improving recycle aggregates in concrete and broadening the scope of applications of recycled concrete. This paper reviews the findings of research on the effects of recycled fine aggregates (RFAs) on the permeability, drying shrinkage, carbonation, chloride ion penetration, acid resistance, and freeze–thaw resistance of concrete. The results show that the content of old mortar and the quality of recycled concrete are closely related to the durability of prepared RFA concrete. For example, the drying shrinkage value with a 100% RFA replacement rate is twice that of normal concrete, and the depth of carbonation increases by approximately 110%. Moreover, the durability of RFA concrete decreases as the RFA replacement rate and the water–cement ratio improve. Fortunately, the use of zeolite materials such as fly ash, silica fume, and meta kaolin as surface coatings for RFAs or as external admixtures for RFA concrete had a positive effect on durability. Furthermore, the proper mixing methods and/or recycled aggregates with optimized moisture content can further improve the durability of RFA concrete.

Traditional thiazolidinediones (TZDs), such as rosiglitazone, are peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) potent agonists that can be used to treat type 2 diabetes but carry unwanted effects, including increased risk for fracture. The present work aimed to compare the insulin-sensitizing efficacies and bone-loss side effects of CMHX008, a novel TZDs-like PPARγ partial agonist, with those of rosiglitazone. A TR-FRET PPARγ competitive binding assay was used to compare the binding affinity between CMHX008 and rosiglitazone. Mice were administered vehicle, CMHX008 or rosiglitazone for 16 weeks. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were used to examine differences in differentiation into osteoblasts after compounds treatment. TR-FRET showed lower affinity to PPARγ by CMHX008 compared with rosiglitazone. Mice treated with CMHX008 showed insulin sensitization similar to that of mice treated with rosiglitazone, which was related to the significant inhibition of PPARγ Ser273 phosphorylation and improved insulin sensitivity by facilitating the phosphorylation of insulin receptor and Akt in adipose tissues. Micro-CT and histomorphometric analyses demonstrated that the degree of trabecular bone loss after treatment with CMHX008 was weaker than that observed with rosiglitazone, as evidenced by consistent changes in BV/TV, Tb.N, Tb.Th, Tb.Sp, and the mineral apposition rate. MSCs treated with CMHX008 showed higher ALP activity and mRNA levels of bone formation markers than did cells treated with rosiglitazone in the osteoblast differentiation test. Thus, CMHX008 showed insulin-sensitizing effects similar to those of rosiglitazone with a lower risk of bone loss, suggesting that PPARγ sparing eliminates the skeletal side effects of TZDs while maintaining their insulin-sensitizing properties. Transcription of the Neurospora crassa circadian clock gene frequency (frq) is an essential process in the negative feedback loop that controls circadian rhythms. WHITE COLLAR 1 (WC-1) and WHITE COLLAR 2 (WC-2) forms the WC complex (WCC) that is the main activator of frq transcription by binding to its promoter. Here, we show that Centromere Binding Factor 1 (CBF-1) is a critical component of the N. crassa circadian clock by regulating frq transcription. Deletion of cbf-1 resulted in long period and low amplitude rhythms, whereas overexpression of CBF-1 abolished the circadian rhythms. Loss of CBF-1 resulted in WC-independent FRQ expression and suppression of WCC activity. As WCC, CBF-1 also binds to the C-box at the frq promoter. Overexpression of CBF-1 impaired WCC binding to the C-box to suppress frq transcription. Together, our results suggest that the proper level of CBF-1 is critical for circadian clock function by suppressing WC-independent FRQ expression and by regulating WCC binding to the frq promoter.

Rhythmic activation and repression of the frequency (frq) gene are essential for normal function of the Neurospora circadian clock. WHITE COLLAR (WC) complex, the positive element of the Neurospora circadian system, is responsible for stimulation of frq transcription. We report that a C2H2 finger domain-containing protein IEC-1 and its associated chromatin remodeling complex INO80 play important roles in normal Neurospora circadian clock function. In iec-1KO strains, circadian rhythms are abolished, and the frq transcript levels are increased compared to that of the wild-type strain. Similar results are observed in mutant strains of the INO80 subunits. Furthermore, ChIP data show that recruitment of the INO80 complex to the frq promoter is IEC-1-dependent. WC-mediated transcription of frq contributes to the rhythmic binding of the INO80 complex at the frq promoter. As demonstrated by ChIP analysis, the INO80 complex is required for the re-establishment of the dense chromatin environment at the frq promoter. In addition, WC-independent frq transcription is present in ino80 mutants. Altogether, our data indicate that the INO80 complex suppresses frq transcription by re-assembling the suppressive mechanisms at the frq promoter after transcription of frq.

Rice restorer lines play an important role in three-line hybrid rice production. Previous research based on molecular tagging has suggested that the restorer lines used widely today have narrow genetic backgrounds. However, patterns of genetic variation at a genome-wide scale in these restorer lines remain largely unknown. The present study performed re-sequencing and genome-wide variation analysis of three important representative restorer lines, namely, IR24, MH63, and SH527, using the Solexa sequencing technology. With the genomic sequence of the Indica cultivar 9311 as the reference, the following genetic features were identified: 267,383 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), 52,847 insertion/deletion polymorphisms (InDels), and 3,286 structural variations (SVs) in the genome of IR24; 288,764 SNPs, 59,658 InDels, and 3,226 SVs in MH63; and 259,862 SNPs, 55,500 InDels, and 3,127 SVs in SH527. Variations between samples were also determined by comparative analysis of authentic collections of SNPs, InDels, and SVs, and were functionally annotated. Furthermore, variations in several important genes were also surveyed by alignment analysis in these lines. Our results suggest that genetic variations among these lines, although far lower than those reported in the landrace population, are greater than expected, indicating a complicated genetic basis for the phenotypic diversity of the restorer lines. Identification of genome-wide variation and pattern analysis among the restorer lines will facilitate future genetic studies and the molecular improvement of hybrid rice.

The XR-seq (eXcision Repair-sequencing) method has been extensively used to map nucleotide excision repair genome-wide in organisms ranging from Escherichia coli to yeast, Drosophila, Arabidopsis, mice, and humans. The basic feature of the method is to capture the excised oligomers carrying DNA damage, sequence them, and align their sequences to the genome. We wished to perform XR-seq in vitro with cell-free extract supplemented with a damaged DNA substrate so as to have greater flexibility in investigating factors that affect nucleotide excision repair in the cellular context [M. J. Smerdon, J. J. Wyrick, S. Delaney, J. Biol. Chem. 299, 105118 (2023)]. We report here the successful use of ultraviolet light-irradiated plasmids as substrates for repair in vitro and in vivo by E. coli and E. coli cell-free extracts and by mammalian cell-free extract. XR-seq analyses demonstrated common excision product length and sequence characteristics in vitro and in vivo for both the bacterial and mammalian systems. This approach is expected to help understand the effects of epigenetics and other cellular factors and conditions on DNA repair. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
