Abstract Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) commonly precedes ventricular remodeling, heart failure. Few dynamic molecular signatures have gained widespread acceptance in mainstream clinical testing despite the discovery of many potential candidates. These unmet needs with respect to biomarker and drug discovery of AMI necessitate a prioritization. We enrolled patients with AMI aged between 30 and 70. RNA-seq analysis was performed on the peripheral blood mononuclear cells collected from the patients at three time points: 1 day, 7 days, and 3 months after AMI. PLC/LC–MS analysis was conducted on the peripheral blood plasma collected from these patients at the same three time points. Differential genes and metabolites between groups were screened by bio-informatics methods to understand the dynamic changes of AMI in different periods. We obtained 15 transcriptional and 95 metabolite expression profiles at three time points after AMI through high-throughput sequencing. AMI-1d: enrichment analysis revealed the biological features of 1 day after AMI primarily included acute inflammatory response, elevated glycerophospholipid metabolism, and decreased protein synthesis capacity. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) might stand promising biomarkers to differentiate post-AMI stage. Anti-inflammatory therapy during the acute phase is an important direction for preventing related pathology. AMI-7d: the biological features of this stage primarily involved the initiation of cardiac fibrosis response and activation of platelet adhesion pathways. Accompanied by upregulated TGF-beta signaling pathway and ECM receptor interaction, GP5 help assess platelet activation, a potential therapeutic target to improve haemostasis. AMI-3m: the biological features of 3 months after AMI primarily showed a vascular regeneration response with VEGF signaling pathway, NOS3 and SHC2 widely activated, which holds promise for providing new therapeutic approaches for AMI. Our analysis highlights transcriptional and metabolomics signatures at different time points after MI, which deepens our understanding of the dynamic biological responses and associated molecular mechanisms that occur during cardiac repair.

Highlights Evaporation and solution two-step hybrid process are used to fabricate conformal growth of perovskite film on textured silicon substrates. F-PMAI additive enlarged the perovskite grains, induced the (111) preferred orientation and passivated interface defects. We obtained a champion efficiency of 30.05% for a monolithic perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell based on a silicon thin film tunneling junction.

Abstract Background Water deficit is an important problem in agricultural production in arid regions. With the advent of wholly mechanized technology for cotton planting in Xinjiang, it is important to determine which planting mode could achieve high yield, fiber quality and water use efficiency (WUE). This study aimed to explore if chemical topping affected cotton yield, quality and water use in relation to row configuration and plant densities. Results Experiments were carried out in Xinjiang China, in 2020 and 2021 with two topping method, manual topping and chemical topping, two plant densities, low and high, and two row configurations, i.e., 76 cm equal rows and 10+66 cm narrow-wide rows, which were commonly applied in matching harvest machine. Chemical topping increased seed cotton yield, but did not affect cotton fiber quality comparing to traditional manual topping. Under equal row spacing, the WUE in higher density was 62.4% higher than in the lower one. However, under narrow-wide row spacing, the WUE in lower density was 53.3% higher than in higher one (farmers’ practice). For machine-harvest cotton in Xinjiang, the optimal row configuration and plant density for chemical topping was narrow-wide rows with 15 plants m-2 or equal rows with 18 plants m-2. Conclusion The plant density recommended in narrow-wide rows was less than farmers’ practice and the density in equal rows was moderate with local practice. Our results provide new knowledge on optimizing agronomic managements of machine-harvested cotton for both high yield and water efficient.

Abstract Objective We aim to molecularly stratify stage IA lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) for precision medicine. Methods Twelve multi-institution datasets (837 cases of IA) were used to classify the high- and low-risk types (based on survival status within 5 years), and the biological differences were compared. Then, a gene-based classifying score (IA score) was trained, tested and validated by several machine learning methods. Furthermore, we estimated the significance of the IA score in the prognostic assessment, chemotherapy prediction and risk stratification of stage IA LUAD. We also developed an R package for the clinical application. The SEER database (15708 IA samples) and TCGA Pan-Cancer (1881 stage I samples) database were used to verify clinical significance. Results Compared with the low-risk group, the high-risk group of stage IA LUAD has obvious enrichment of the malignant pathway and more driver mutations and copy number variations. The effect of the IA score on the classification of high- and low-risk stage IA LUAD was much better than that of classical clinicopathological factors (training set: AUC = 0.9, validation set: AUC = 0.7). The IA score can significantly predict the prognosis of stage IA LUAD and has a prognostic effect for stage I pancancer. The IA score can effectively predict chemotherapy sensitivity and occult metastasis or invasion in stage IA LUAD. The R package IAExpSuv has a good risk probability prediction effect for both groups and single stages of IA LUAD. Conclusions The IA score can effectively stratify the risk of stage IA LUAD, offering good assistance in precision medicine.

The stimulator of interferon genes (STING), an integral adaptor protein in the DNA-sensing pathway, plays a pivotal role in the innate immune response against infections. Additionally, it presents a valuable therapeutic target for infectious diseases and cancer. We observed that fangchinoline (Fan), a bis-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BBA), effectively impedes the replication of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV), influenza A virus (H1N1), and herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) in vitro. Fan treatment significantly reduced the viral load, attenuated tissue inflammation, and improved survival in a viral sepsis mouse model. Mechanistically, Fan activates the antiviral response in a STING-dependent manner, leading to increased expression of interferon (IFN) and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) for potent antiviral effects in vivo and in vitro. Notably, Fan interacts with STING, preventing its degradation and thereby extending the activation of IFN-based antiviral responses. Collectively, our findings highlight the potential of Fan, which elicits antiviral immunity by suppressing STING degradation, as a promising candidate for antiviral therapy.

Abstract The rapid-developing soft robots and wearable devices require flexible conductive materials to maintain electric functions over a large range of deformations. Considerable efforts are made to develop stretchable conductive materials; little attention is paid to the frequent failures of integrated circuits caused by the interface mismatch of soft substrates and rigid silicon-based microelectronics. Here, we present a stretchable solder with good weldability that can strongly bond with electronic components, benefiting from the hierarchical assemblies of liquid metal particles, small-molecule modulators, and non-covalently crosslinked polymer matrix. Our self-solder shows high conductivity (>2×105 S m−1), extreme stretchability (~1000%, and >600% with chip-integrated), and high toughness (~20 MJ m−3). Additionally, the dynamic interactions within our solder’s surface and interior enable a range of unique features, including ease of integration, component substitution, and circuit recyclability. With all these features, we demonstrated an application as thermoforming technology for three-dimensional (3D) conformable electronics, showing potential in reducing the complexity of microchip interfacing, as well as scalable fabrication of chip-integrated stretchable circuits and 3D electronics.

Abstract Embolization (utilizing embolic materials to block blood vessels) has been considered one of the most promising strategies for clinical disease treatments. However, the existing embolic materials have poor embolization effectiveness, posing a great challenge to highly efficient embolization. In this study, we construct Janus particle-engineered structural lipiodol droplets by programming the self-assembly of Janus particles at the lipiodol-water interface. As a result, we achieve highly efficient renal embolization in rabbits. The obtained structural lipiodol droplets exhibit excellent mechanical stability and viscoelasticity, enabling them to closely pack together to efficiently embolize the feeding artery. They also feature good viscoelastic deformation capacities and can travel distally to embolize finer vasculatures down to 40 μm. After 14 days post-embolization, the Janus particle-engineered structural lipiodol droplets achieve efficient embolization without evidence of recanalization or non-target embolization, exhibiting embolization effectiveness superior to the clinical lipiodol-based emulsion. Our strategy provides an alternative approach to large-scale fabricate embolic materials for highly efficient embolization and exhibits good potential for clinical applications.

This study aimed to explore the application status of natural products in gastric ulcer research and explore the research hotspots and future research directions. CiteSpace was used to conduct metrological and visual analysis on the number of articles published in the core set of Web of Science database about natural medicines therapy for gastric ulcer, including co-cited journals, co-cited authors, co-cited literatures and keywords. From 1953 to 2021, the number of articles published on natural medicines therapy for gastric ulcer was 1 373, the total number of articles had increased rapidly in recent years. China and the United States were the driving force in this field, and the main research institution was Chinese Univ. Hong Kong. Most of the publications are in the journal Gastroenterology. ''peptic ulcer'', ''Helicobacter pylori'', ''infection'', ''duodenal ulcer'', ''disease'', ''gastric ulcer'', ''peptic ulcer disease'', ''gastric cancer'', and ''prevalence'' were the research frontiers in recent years. This study was the first to conduct literature metrology visualization analysis on the research status and hot spots and development trend of natural medicines against gastric ulcer, in order to provide reference for follow-up researchers to quickly understand the research focus of natural medicines against gastric ulcer and literature retrieval. In addition, this paper also put forward suggestions and prospected for the future development of this field, which will help researchers to open up new directions for future research in this field.

The present study aimed to develop low-sodium curing agents for dry-cured meat products. Four low-sodium formulations (SPMA, SPM, SP, and SM) were used for dry-curing meat. The physicochemical properties and flavor of the dry-cured meat were investigated. The presence of Mg2+ ions hindered the penetration of Na+ into the meat. The weight loss, moisture content, and pH of all low-sodium salt groups were lower than those of S. Mg2+ addition increased the water activity (Aw) of SPMA, SPM, and SM. Dry-curing meat with low-sodium salts promoted the production of volatile flavor compounds, with Mg2+ playing a more prominent role. Furthermore, low-sodium salts also promoted protein degradation and increased the content of free amino acids in dry-cured meat, especially in SM. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the low-sodium salts containing Mg2+ were conducive to improving the quality of dry-cured meat products. Therefore, low-sodium salts enriched with Mg2+ become a desirable low-sodium curing agent for achieving salt reduction in dry-cured meat products.

In this study, the synergistic behavior of Ni and Al in two low-density steels (Fe-26Mn-10.2Al-0.98C-0.15V (wt. %) and Fe-29Mn-5Al-1C-12Ni (wt. %)) and their influence on microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated. The chemical composition of κ-carbides and B2 precipitated particles as a function of annealing and aging temperature and the matrix within which they formed were elucidated. The microstructures and deformation mechanisms of both steels were studied based on their strengthening contribution. The Fe-26Mn-10.2Al-0.98C-0.15V steel mainly realized precipitation strengthening through κ-carbides and grain boundary strengthening due to full recrystallization. The strengthening caused by Fe-29Mn-5Al-1C-12Ni steel was mainly due to the presence of the B2 phase in the matrix, which was non-coherent with FCC. This led to the Orowan bypass mechanism, which made precipitation strengthening the main strengthening contribution. The synergistic effect led to the shear or bypass mechanism of both steels when plane dislocation slip occurred. In addition, it also had an influence on the work-hardening capability during plastic deformation. This study provides a promising way to further enhance the yield strength of low-density austenitic steels through the synergistic effect of Ni and Al.

We present a surface modification technique that turns CuNi foam films with a high contact angle and non-sticking property into a sticky surface. By decorating with mesh-like biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and adjusting the surface parameters, the surface exhibits water-retaining capability even when being held upside down. The wetting transition process of droplets falling on its surface were systematically studied using the finite element simulation method. It is found that the liquid filled the surface microstructure and curvy three-phase contact line. Moreover, we experimentally demonstrated that this surface can be further applied to capture underwater air bubbles.

In order to find more excellent structural materials resistant to radiation damage, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have been developed due to their characteristics of limited point defect diffusion such as lattice distortion and slow diffusion. Specially, refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) that can adapt to a high-temperature environment are badly needed. In this study, TiZrHfNbMo0.1 RHEAs are selected for irradiation and nanoindentation experiments. We combined the mechanistic model for the depth-dependent hardness of ion-irradiated metals and the introduction of the scale factor f to modify the irradiation-hardening model in order to better describe the nanoindentation indentation process in the irradiated layer. Finally, it can be found that, with the increase in irradiation dose, a more serious lattice distortion caused by a higher defect density limits the expansion of the plastic zone.

Abstract Objectives Neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) is a serious phenotype of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The disturbance of neuron–microglia crosstalk is recently revealed in many neuropsychiatric diseases but was not well studied in NPSLE. We found glucose regulatory protein 78 (GRP78), a marker of endoplasmic reticulum stress, was significantly increased in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of our NPSLE cohort. We, therefore, investigated whether GRP78 can act as a mediator between the neuron–microglia crosstalk and is involved in the pathogenic process of NPSLE. Methods Serum and CSF parameters were analyzed in 22 NPSLE patients and controls. Anti-DWEYS IgG was injected intravenously into mice to establish a model of NPSLE. Behavioral assessment, histopathological staining, RNA-seq analyses, and biochemical assays were performed to examine the neuro-immunological alterations in the mice. Rapamycin was intraperitoneally administered to define the therapeutic effect. Results The level of GRP78 was elevated significantly in the CSF of the patients with NPSLE. An increase in GRP78 expression, accompanied by neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment, was also found in the brain tissues of the NPSLE model mice induced by anti-DWEYS IgG deposition on hippocampal neurons. In vitro experiments demonstrated that anti-DWEYS IgG could stimulate neurons to release GRP78, which activated microglia via TLR4/MyD88/NFκB pathway to produce more pro-inflammatory cytokines and promote migration and phagocytosis. Rapamycin ameliorated GRP78-inducing neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment in anti-DWEYS IgG-transferred mice. Conclusion GRP78 acts as a pathogenic factor in neuropsychiatric disorders via interfering neuron–microglia crosstalk. Rapamycin may be a promising therapeutic candidate for NPSLE.

Abstract Background Neuroinflammation has been identified as one of the primary pathogenic factors of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). However, there are no dedicated treatments available in clinics to alleviate neuroinflammation in NPSLE. It has been proposed that stimulating basal forebrain (BF) cholinergic neurons may provide potent anti-inflammatory effects in several inflammatory diseases, but its potential role in NPSLE remains unexplored. This study aims to investigate whether and how stimulating BF cholinergic neurons has a protective effect on NPSLE. Results Optogenetic stimulation of BF cholinergic neurons significantly ameliorated olfactory dysfunction and anxiety- and depression-like phenotype in pristane induced lupus (PIL) mice. The increased expression of adhesion molecules (P-selectin and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1)), leukocyte recruitment, blood-brain barrier (BBB) leakage were significantly decreased. Notably, the brain histopathological changes, including the elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β), IgG deposition in the choroid plexus and lateral ventricle wall and lipofuscin accumulation in the cortical and hippocampal neurons, were also significantly attenuated. Furthermore, we confirmed the colocalization between the BF cholinergic projections and the cerebral vessels, and the expression of α7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) on the cerebral vessels. Conclusion Our data indicate that stimulation of BF cholinergic neurons could play a neuroprotective role in the brain through its cholinergic anti-inflammatory effects on cerebral vessels. Therefore, this may be a promising preventive target for NPSLE.

Objective: To systematically evaluate the efficacy of moxibustion in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) model rats.Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Data, VIP, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases from their inception to June 30, 2023. Relevant animal experiments investigating moxibustion for treating IBS-D in model rats were included. Two independent researchers screened the literature, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias in the selected studies. The meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software.Results: In total, 21 animal studies comprising 680 model rats were included. The meta-analysis results demonstrated that moxibustion enhanced the threshold capacity of the abdominal withdrawal reflex (AWR) [standardized mean difference (SMD) = 1.84; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.09, 2.60; p < 0.00001], ameliorated the rate of loose stool (SMD = −4.03; 95% CI: –5.76, −2.30; p < 0.00001), and decreased the colon 5-hydroxytryptamine (SMD = −3.67; 95% CI: –5.33, −2.01; p < 0.00001), serum interleukin-1β (SMD = −3.24, 95% CI: –4.06, −2.41; p < 0.00001), serum tumor necrosis factor-α (SMD = −2.35, 95% CI: –4.12, −0.58; p < 0.00001), and serum substance P (SMD = −5.14, 95% CI: –8.45, −1.83; p = 0.002) concentrations. Moxibustion did not affect the blood calcitonin gene-related peptide level compared to the blank model group (p = 0.15).Conclusion: Moxibustion modulated the brain-gut interaction, reduced visceral hypersensitivity, inhibited intestinal inflammation, and regulated the immune balance, improving the rate of loose stool and increasing the AWR threshold capacity in IBS-D model rats, achieving good analgesic and antidiarrheal effects. However, these conclusions require further validation due to limitations in the quantity and quality of the included studies.

AbstractBoron (B) deficiency is detrimental to Glycine max (L.) Merr., which is one of the leading oil crops. In this study, physiological analysis of soybean seedlings under B deficiency and control after 12 h, 24 h, 72 h and 8 days was carried out, and the roots were subjected to transcriptome sequencing analysis. The results showed that under B deficiency, the plant height, SPAD and chlorophyll fluorescence value of soybean seedlings decreased significantly, indicating that B stress significantly inhibited plant growth and photosynthesis. RNA-seq revealed a total of 5126 DEGs (Differentially Expressed Genes), and nine DEGs co-existed at the four-time points, among which GLYMA_03G130600 regulates transcription factor ORG3, which is related to plant growth. GO analysis revealed a total of annotated 4018 DEGs, among which the terms plasma membrane, extracellular, enzyme activity, ion transport metabolic process and oxidoreductase activity were significantly enriched at the four time points, which might hinder the growth of soybean and accelerate senescence. KEGG analysis showed that at level 1, the DEGs were mainly enriched in photosynthesis-related, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism and plant hormone signal transduction. At level 2 of secondary metabolism, the DEGs were mainly enriched in energy metabolism and amino acid metabolism pathways, which indicates that B stresses mainly affect photosynthesis, hormone regulation and amino acid metabolism of soybean, thus affecting plant growth. The above results give deeper insight into the soybean response to B deficiency and lay the foundation for further studies of the molecular mechanism of soybean response to boron deficiency.

Abstract Dyslipidemia and cognitive impairment are common among old adults and the occurrence of them rises exponentially with increasing age. Evidences of the relationships between serum lipids and cognitive impairment are inconsistent or equivocal among older adults. This study aimed to investigate the associations between lipid profiles and late‐life cognitive impairment among oldest‐old and centenarian adults. In this cross‐sectional study, serum lipids were biochemically measured among 606 oldest‐old adults and 653 centenarians, and cognitive function was evaluated using mini‐mental state examination (MMSE). Multivariate linear and logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the associations between serum lipids and cognitive impairment. Abstract Background In recent years, there have been breakthroughs in the preclinical research of respiratory diseases, such as organoids and organ tissue chip models, but they still cannot provide insight into human respiratory diseases well. Human lung slices model provides a promising in vitro model for the study of respiratory diseases because of its preservation of lung structure and major cell types. Methods Human lung slices were manually prepared from small pieces of lung tissues obtained from lung cancer patients subjected to lung surgery. To evaluate the suitability of this model for lung fibrosis research, lung slices were treated with CdCl2 (30 μM), TGF-β1 (1 ng/ml) or CdCl2 plus TGF-β1 for 3 days followed by toxicity assessment, gene expression analysis and histopathological observations. Results CdCl2 treatment resulted in a concentration-dependent toxicity profile evidenced by MTT assay as well as histopathological observations. In comparison with the untreated group, CdCl2 and TGF-β1 significantly induces MMP2 and MMP9 gene expression but not MMP1. Interestingly, CdCl2 plus TGF-β1 significantly induces the expression of MMP1 but not MMP2, MMP7 or MMP9. Microscopic observations reveal the pathogenesis of interstitial lung fibrosis in the lung slices of all groups; however, CdCl2 plus TGF-β1 treatment leads to a greater alveolar septa thickness and the formation of fibroblast foci-like pathological features. The lung slice model is in short of blood supply and the inflammatory/immune-responses are considered minimal. Conclusions The results are in favor of the hypothesis that idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is mediated by tissue damage and abnormal repair. Induction of MMP1 gene expression and fibroblast foci-like pathogenesis suggest that this model might represent an early stage of IPF.

Abstract Background The pristane-induced lupus (PIL) model is a useful tool for studying environmental-related systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, neuropsychiatric manifestations in this model have not been investigated in detail. Because neuropsychiatric lupus (NPSLE) is an important complication of SLE, we investigated the neuropsychiatric symptoms in the PIL mouse model to evaluate its suitability for NPSLE studies. Results PIL mice showed olfactory dysfunction accompanied by an anxiety- and depression-like phenotype at month 2 or 4 after pristane injection. The levels of cytokines (IL-1β, IFN-α, IFN-β, IL-10, IFN-γ, IL-6, TNF-α and IL-17A) and chemokines (CCL2 and CXCL10) in the brain and blood–brain barrier (BBB) permeability increased significantly from week 2 or month 1, and persisted throughout the observed course of the disease. Notably, IgG deposition in the choroid plexus and lateral ventricle wall were observed at month 1 and both astrocytes and microglia were activated. Persistent activation of astrocytes was detected throughout the observed course of the disease, while microglial activation diminished dramatically at month 4. Lipofuscin deposition, a sign of neuronal damage, was detected in cortical and hippocampal neurons from month 4 to 8. Conclusion PIL mice exhibit a series of characteristic behavioral deficits and pathological changes in the brain, and therefore might be suitable for investigating disease pathogenesis and for evaluating potential therapeutic targets for environmental-related NPSLE.

To expound on the correlation between the microorganism communities and the formation of off-odour in Xuanwei ham, the microorganism communities and volatile compounds were investigated in the biceps femoris (BF) and semimembranosus (SM) of Xuanwei ham with different quality grades (normal ham and spoiled ham). The single molecule real-time sequencing showed that differential bacteria and fungi were more varied in normal hams than in spoiled hams. Headspace solid-phase microextraction–gas chromatography (HS-SPME-GC-MS) results indicated that aldehydes and alcohols were significantly higher in spoiled hams than those in normal hams (p < 0.05). The off-odour of spoiled hams was dominated by ichthyic, malodourous, sweaty, putrid, sour, and unpleasant odours produced by compounds such as trimethylamine (SM: 13.05 μg/kg), hexanal (BF: 206.46 μg/kg), octanal (BF: 59.52 μg/kg), methanethiol (SM: 12.85 μg/kg), and valeric acid (BF: 15.08 μg/kg), which are positively correlated with Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, Pseudomonas sp., Aspergillus ruber, and Moraxella osloensis. Furthermore, the physicochemical property and quality characteristics results showed that high moisture (BF: 56.32 g/100 g), pH (BF: 6.63), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) (SM: 1.98 MDA/kg), and low NaCl content (SM: 6.31%) were also responsible for the spoilage of hams with off-odour. This study provided a deep insight into the off-odour of Xuanwei ham from the perspective of microorganism communities and a theoretical basis for improving the flavour and overall quality of Xuanwei hams.

This study aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of high-intensity ultrasound (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 min) in combination with L-lysine (15 mM) on improving the solubility and flavour adsorption capacity of myofibrillar proteins (MPs) in low-ion-strength media. The results revealed that the ultrasound treatment for 20 min or the addition of L-lysine (15 mM) significantly improved protein solubility (p < 0.05), with L-lysine (15 mM) showing a more pronounced effect (p < 0.05). The combination of ultrasound treatment and L-lysine further increased solubility, and the MPs treated with ultrasound at 20 min exhibited the best dispersion stability in water, which corresponded to the lowest turbidity, highest absolute zeta potential value, and thermal stability (p < 0.05). Based on the reactive and total sulfhydryl contents, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy analysis, the ultrasound treatment combined with L-lysine (15 mM) promoted the unfolding and depolymerization of MPs, resulting in a larger exposure of SH groups on the surface, aromatic amino acids in a polar environment, and a transition of protein conformation from α-helix to β-turn. Moreover, the combined treatment also increased the hydrophobic bonding sites, hydrogen-bonding sites, and electrostatic effects, thereby enhancing the adsorption capacity of MPs to bind kenone compounds. The findings from this study provide a theoretical basis for the production and flavour improvement of low-salt MP beverages and the utilisation of meat protein.

4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) is considered a priority organic pollutant with high toxicity. Many authors have been committed to developing efficient, green, and environmentally friendly technological processes to treat wastewater containing 4-NP. Here, we investigated how the addition of Ca2+ affects the catalytic degradation of 4-NP with AgInS2 when exposed to light. We synthesized AgInS2 (AIS) and Ca2+-doped AgInS2 (Ca-AIS) with varying amounts of Ca2+ using a low-temperature liquid phase method. The SEM, XRD, XPS, HRTEM, BET, PL, and UV-Vis DRS characteristics were employed to analyze the structure, morphology, and optical properties of the materials. The effects of different amounts of Ca2+ on the photocatalytic degradation of 4-NP were investigated. Under visible light illumination for a duration of 120 min, a degradation rate of 63.2% for 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) was achieved. The results showed that doping with an appropriate amount of Ca2+ could improve the visible light catalytic activity of AIS. This work provides an idea for finding suitable cheap alkaline earth metal doping agents to replace precious metals for the improvement of photocatalytic activities.

Abstract Pickering emulsion, stabilized by solid particles, possesses low toxicity, high stability, large surface area as well as good biocompatibility in comparison with traditional molecular surfactant‐stabilized emulsion. As such, Pickering emulsion has received much attention in numerous fields including the chemical industry, food industry, agriculture, and biomedicine. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of Pickering emulsion from controllable fabrication to biomedical applications. Firstly, we elaborate on the influence of solid‐particle surfactant on the fabrication of Pickering emulsions and their corresponding preparation technologies. Secondly, we focus on the biomedical applications of Pickering emulsion, including antitumor treatment, antiviral infection, biosensing and biocatalysis as well as wound healing. Finally, we further introduce the proof‐of‐concept of Pickering emulsion and comment on the prospects of this emerging field.

Abstract Bubbles are pervasive in aqueous media, and on account of numerous advantages of tiny bubbles, efficient bubble splitting is favorable in a wide range of applications. However, underwater bubble splitting faces a lot of challenges because bubbles tend to coalesce during the rising due to the action of buoyancy and surface energy, and the consumption of considerable external energy is needed. Inspired by the bubble bursting phenomenon on the feathers of high‐speed swimming penguins, we proposed a new bubble splitting strategy based on the energy conversion of bubble transportation on superhydrophobic open pathways. A porous superhydrophobic coating was first developed via a bubble‐template assisted fabrication method, which provides hierarchical micro/nanostructures and robust air plastron. Gas bubbles can transport along the superhydrophobic open pathways without perturbation, and split into smaller ones by taking advantage of the potential energy contributed by buoyancy. By controlling the superhydrophobic pathway, the size of the split bubbles can be controlled precisely. We also demonstrated that a bubble splitting device could be applied in underwater reactions where an enhanced gas−liquid mass transfer is desired. This bubble splitting strategy may offer new prospects for underwater bubble manipulation and unfold a potential in many bubble‐involved fields.

Beyond traditional endothelium-dependent vessel (EDV), vascular mimicry (VM) is another critical tumor angiogenesis that further forms in many malignant metastatic tumors. However, the existing anti-angiogenesis combined chemotherapeutics strategies are only efficient for the treatment of EDV-based subcutaneous tumors, but remain a great challenge for the treatment of in situ malignant metastatic tumor associated with EDV and VM. Here, we demonstrate a self-assembled nanoparticle (VE-DDP-Pro) featuring self-anti-EDV and -VM capacity enables to significantly enhance the treatment efficacy of cisplatin (DDP) against the growth and metastasis of ovarian cancer. The VE-DDP-Pro is constructed by patching DDP loaded cRGD-folate-heparin nanoparticles (VE) onto the surface of protamine (Pro) nanoparticle. We demonstrated the self-anti-angiogenesis capacity of VE-DDP-Pro was attributed to VE, which could significantly inhibit the formation of EDV and VM by regulating signaling pathway of MMP-2/VEGF, AKT/mTOR/MMP-2/Laminin and AKT/mTOR/EMT, facilitating chemotherapeutics to effectively suppress the development and metastasis of ovarian cancer. Thus, combing with the chemotherapeutics effectiveness of DDP, the VE-DDP-Pro can significantly enhance treatment efficacy and prolong median survival of mice with metastatic ovarian cancer. We believe our self-assembled nanoparticles integrating the anti-EDV and anti-VM capacity provide a new preclinical sight to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutics for the treatment malignant metastasis tumor.

Abstract Background Cerebral venous infarction (CVI) is a serious complication after meningioma resection. The risk factors of postoperative cerebral venous infarction after surgical resection of meningioma can be determined through large samples and this study can add evidence to the literature. Methods The clinical and imaging data of 1127 patients with intracranial meningiomas who underwent resection in our hospital were retrospectively collected and analyzed. CVI was evaluated by postoperative imaging and clinical manifestations. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify risk factors associated with CVI. Results Overall, 4.7% (53/1127) of patients experienced CVI after meningioma resection. Multivariate analysis revealed superficial meningioma, moderate to severe peritumoral edema, peritumoral critical vein and WHO grade II-III as independent predictors of a postoperative CVI. After timely intervention, the symptoms were clearly alleviated in one month, and the prognosis was good, but injury to key veins could cause irreversible neurological disorders. Conclusions Intraoperative protection of veins is the primary way to prevent CVI. The present study identified several significant and independent risk factors for postoperative venous infarction, thereby enabling the identification of high-risk patients who require special attention during clinical and surgical management.

The low OH−/RE3+ molar ratio of hydroxide sulfate RE(OH)SO4 (RE = rare earth) makes it a potential good template for the synthesis of rare earth compounds, which is shown in this work by the direct generation of (La,Eu)F3, (La,Eu)PO4, Na(La,Eu)(WO4)2, and Na(La,Eu)(MoO4)2 without further calcination. The template showed irregular and slightly aggregated micro-plates morphology, while the products derived from the template showed morphologies of nanoparticles (trifluoride), nanorods (phosphate), aggregate spheres (molybdate), and aggregated polyhedrons (tungstate). The photoluminescence of the derived compounds, including excitation/emission spectra, decay kinetics, quantum yields, color coordinates, and color purities were comprehensively investigated, and the results were well correlated with structures and morphologies. Calcination further improved the luminescence intensity and quantum yield of the obtained phosphors. It is believed that the RE(OH)SO4 compound proposed in this work may find applications for the synthesis of other rare earth compounds.

How to efficiently and accurately identify and extract the focused regions in the source image is a difficult problem in the field of multi-focus image fusion. The existing fusion methods suffer from color distortion, loss of detail information, and high time cost, which limit the subsequent processing and real-time application of fused images. Based on this, this paper proposes a multi-focus image fusion method based on Transformer and feedback mechanism. The method uses a combination of Transformer and convolutional neural network, and integrates the local information extracted by CNN and the global information obtained by transformer, which improves the accuracy of focus region identification. In addition, this paper uses a feedback mechanism to provide more contextual information so that the features can be fully utilized, which improves the performance of the network in feature fusion. This paper conducts comparison tests with seven advanced fusion methods on the Lytro and Grayscale datasets, and the results show that the algorithm in this paper is superior in both subjective and objective evaluations.

Abstract Since the discovery of biological ion channels and their role in physiology, scientists have been trying to create artificial structures that mimic biological ion channels. Nanochannels such as biological/solid‐state nanopores and porous nanostructures can have fine‐tuned ion behaviors in a confined space where ions are “aggregated”. Thus, one of the most exciting applications of nanochannels is artificial neurons and neural network based on the ion‐specific effects and nanofluidics. In this review article, it is the first time that the ion aggregation behaviors inside the confined nanochannels are summarized, and their connection to neuroscience, especially the artificial neurons and neural network, is explored and envisioned.

Elucidating the mechanisms of regulation of β-cell proliferation is key to understanding the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus. Txnip is a tumor suppressor that is upregulated in diabetes and plays an important role in the regulation of insulin sensitivity; however, its potential effect on pancreatic β-cell proliferation remains unclear. Here, we evaluated the role of Txnip in pancreatic β-cell compensatory proliferation by subjecting WT and Txnip knockout (KO) mice to a high-fat diet (HFD). Our results demonstrate that Txnip deficiency improves glucose tolerance and increases insulin sens itivity in HFD-induced obesity. The antidiabetogenic effect of Txnip deficiency was accompanied by increased β-cell proliferation and enhanced β-cell mass expansion. Furthermore, Txnip deficiency modulated the expression of a set of transcription factors with key roles in β-cell proliferation and cell cycle regulation. Txnip KO in HFD mice also led to activated levels of p-PI3K, p-AKT, p-mTOR and p-GSK3β, suggesting that Txnip may act via PI3K/AKT signaling to suppress β-cell proliferation. Thus, our work provides a theoretical basis for Txnip as a new therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common digestive disorder observed in clinics. Current studies suggest that the pathogenesis of the disease is closely related to abnormal brain–gut interactions, hypokinesia, visceral sensory hypersensitivity in the gastrointestinal tract, and alterations in the intestinal microenvironment. However, it is difficult for a single factor to explain the heterogeneity of symptoms. The Rome IV criteria emphasized the holistic biologic-psycho-social model of IBS, suggesting that symptoms of the disease are closely related to neurogastroenterology and various abnormalities in brain–gut interaction. This study comprehensively reviewed the relationship between the brain–gut axis and IBS, the structure of the brain–gut axis, and the relationship between the brain–gut axis and intestinal microenvironment, and discussed the relationship between the abnormal regulation of the nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system and the incidence of IBS on the basis of brain–gut axis. In terms of treatment, acupuncture therapy can regulate the neuroendocrine-immune system of the body and improve the intestinal microenvironment, and it has the advantages of safety, economy, and effectiveness. We study the pathogenesis of IBS from local to global and micro to macro, and review the use of acupuncture to treat the disease as a whole so as to provide new ideas for the treatment of the disease.

Lung diseases have become a significant challenge to public healthcare worldwide, which stresses the necessity of developing effective biological models for pathophysiological and pharmacological studies of the human respiratory system. In recent years, lung-on-a-chip has been extensively developed as a potentially revolutionary respiratory model paradigm with high efficiency and improved accuracy, bridging the gap between cell culture and preclinical trials. The advantages of lung-on-a-chip technology derive from its capabilities in establishing 3D multicellular architectures and dynamic microphysiological environments. A critical issue in its development is utilizing such capabilities to recapitulate the essential components of the human respiratory system for effectively restoring physiological functions and illustrating disease progress. Here we present a review of lung-on-a-chip technology, highlighting various strategies for capturing lung physiological and pathological characteristics. The key pathophysiological characteristics of the lungs are examined, including the airways, alveoli, and alveolar septum. Accordingly, the strategies in lung-on-a-chip research to capture the essential components and functions of lungs are analyzed. Recent studies of pneumonia, lung cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and pulmonary fibrosis based on lung-on-a-chip are surveyed. Finally, cross-disciplinary approaches are proposed to foster the future development of lung-on-a-chip technology.

ObjectiveLumbar cistern blockage is a common complication of continuous lumbar cistern drainage. This paper analyzes the risk factors for lumbar cistern blockage drainage due to various causes and proposes a series of prevention and intervention measures to reduce blockage or improve recanalization after blockage.MethodsThe clinical data of 637 patients with various lesions who underwent lumbar cistern drainage in our hospital were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Perioperative clinical and imaging data were assessed. ABSTRACT The alteration of gut microbiota structure plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of abnormal glycometabolism. However, the microbiome features identified in patient groups stratified solely based on glucose levels remain controversial among different studies. In this study, we stratified 258 participants (discovery cohort) into three clusters according to an unsupervised method based on 16 clinical parameters involving the levels of blood glucose, insulin, and lipid. We found 67 cluster-specific microbiome features (i.e., amplicon sequence variants [ASVs]) based on 16S rRNA gene V3-V4 region sequencing. Specifically, ASVs belonging to Barnesville and Alistipes were enriched in cluster 1, in which participants had the lowest blood glucose levels, high insulin sensitivity, and a high-fecal short-chain fatty acid concentration. ASVs belonging to Prevotella copri and Ruminococcus gnavus were enriched in cluster 2, which was characterized by a moderate level of blood glucose, serious insulin resistance, and high levels of cholesterol and triglyceride. Cluster 3 was characterized by a high level of blood glucose and insulin deficiency, enriched with ASVs in P. copri and Bacteroides vulgatus. In addition, machine learning classifiers using the 67 cluster-specific ASVs were used to distinguish individuals in one cluster from those in the other two clusters both in discovery and testing cohorts (n = 83). Therefore, microbiome features identified based on the unsupervised stratification of patients with more inclusive clinical parameters may better reflect microbiota alterations associated with the progression of abnormal glycometabolism. IMPORTANCE The gut microbiota is altered in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and prediabetes. The association of particular bacteria with T2D, however, varied among studies, which has made it challenging to develop precision medicine approaches for the prevention and alleviation of T2D. Blood glucose level is the only parameter in clustering patients when identifying the T2D-related bacteria in previous studies. This stratification ignores the fact that patients within the same blood glucose range differ in their insulin resistance and dyslipidemia, which also may be related to disordered gut microbiota. In addition to parameters of blood glucose levels, we also used additional parameters involving insulin and lipid levels to stratify participants into three clusters and further identified cluster-specific microbiome features. We further validated the association between these microbiome features and glycometabolism with an independent cohort. This study highlights the importance of stratification of patients with blood glucose, insulin, and lipid levels when identifying the microbiome features associated with the progression of abnormal glycometabolism.

ObjectivesResuscitation transfer of embryos after elective cryopreservation has been widely applied in in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) therapy for human infertility or sterility owing to higher embryo implantation rates. This method separates oocyte retrieval from embryo transfer. The optimal time for frozen embryo transfer (FET) remains unknown. Therefore, this study mainly compares the advantages and disadvantages of delayed FET and immediate FET through retrospective analysis.MethodsWe analyzed real world data of patients who underwent resuscitation transplantation between October 2019 and July 2021 at the Reproductive Center of Chengdu Jinjiang Hospital for Women’s and Children’s Health. Propensity score matching was applied to control potential confounding factors. A total of 5,549 patients who received at least one FET were analyzed. Patients undergoing transplantation within 60 days of oocyte retrieval were included in the immediate FET group (n = 1,265) and those undergoing transplantation > 60 days after retrieval were included in the delayed FET group (n = 4,284).ResultsLive birth rates between the two groups were comparable (45.25% vs. 45.76%, p = 0.757). Moreover, no difference was observed in the rates of biochemical pregnancy (64.50% vs. 66.80%), clinical pregnancy (55.24% vs. 56.83%), ectopic pregnancy (1.47% vs. 1.39%), early miscarriage (14.41% vs. 16.20%), late miscarriage (2.21% vs. 2.09%), singleton premature delivery (16.67% vs. 18.29%), and neonatal deformity (1.97% vs. 1.80%). After stratifying the patients based on the type of embryo transferred, number of embryos transferred, FET protocol, and good prognosis criteria, live birth rates remained comparable between the two groups (p > 0.05).ConclusionPregnancy outcomes were comparable between the immediate and delayed FET groups.

Abstract Background Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. The fat mass and obesity–associated protein (FTO) has been shown to be involved in obesity; however, its role in NAFLD and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. Methods FTO expression was first examined in the livers of patients with NAFLD and animal and cellular models of NAFLD by real-time PCR and Western blotting. Next, its role in lipid accumulation in hepatocytes was assessed both in vitro and in vivo via gene overexpression and knockdown studies. Results FTO expression was obviously elevated in the livers of mice and humans with hepatic steatosis, probably due to its decreased ubiquitination. FTO overexpression in HepG2 cells induced triglyceride accumulation, whereas FTO knockdown exerted an opposing effect. Consistent with the findings of in vitro studies, adeno-associated viruses 8 (AAV8)-mediated FTO overexpression in the liver promoted hepatic steatosis in C57BL/6J mice. Mechanistically, FTO inhibited the mRNA of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) in hepatocytes. Activation of PPARα by its agonist GW7647 reversed lipid accumulation in hepatocytes induced by FTO overexpression. Conclusions Overall, FTO expression is increased in NAFLD, and it promotes hepatic steatosis by targeting PPARα.

With increasing bus capacity, operational intensity, etc., urban public transport emergencies are more and more characterized by heavy loads with high frequency. To build a collaborative public transport emergency command system (CPTECS) based on existing systems and datasets, bus emergency scenes and categories of sources of danger are defined. Emergency cases in Beijing are selected for analysis, designing new means of encoding and expanding the decision attributes of the rough set model. Cellular genetic algorithm (CGA) is used to screen key hazards highly correlated to existing information systems. By comparing with genetic algorithm (GA), it is found that CGA can better solve attribute reduction problems of multi-decision attribute rough set in stability, convergence quality, and algorithm efficiency. Based on the meteorological hazards screened out, a CPTECS is designed, enriching research in such territories. Research findings provide quantitative support for the design of CPTECS, and have certain practical significance.

Miniaturized four-dimensional (4D) micro/nanorobots denote a forerunning technique associated with interdisciplinary applications, such as in embeddable labs-on-chip, metamaterials, tissue engineering, cell manipulation, and tiny robotics. With emerging smart interactive materials, static micro/nanoscale architectures have upgraded to the fourth dimension, evincing time-dependent shape/property mutation. Molecular-level 4D robotics promises complex sensing, self-adaption, transformation, and responsiveness to stimuli for highly valued functionalities. To precisely control 4D behaviors, current-laser-induced photochemical additive manufacturing, such as digital light projection, stereolithography, and two-photon polymerization, is pursuing high-freeform shape-reconfigurable capacities and high-resolution spatiotemporal programming strategies, which challenge multi-field sciences while offering new opportunities. Herein, this review summarizes the recent development of micro/nano 4D laser photochemical manufacturing, incorporating active materials and shape-programming strategies to provide an envisioning of these miniaturized 4D micro/nanorobots. A comparison with other chemical/physical fabricated micro/nanorobots further explains the advantages and potential usage of laser-synthesized micro/nanorobots.

The actuation of droplets is necessary for several applications, including the quantitative bioanalysis of viruses. Here, authors show a programmable magnetic actuation method to manipulate droplets of various kinds by making use of the spontaneously formed ferrofluid wetting ridges around each droplet.

Phase-pure α-(La,Yb,Er)2W2O9 upconversion (UC) phosphors were synthesized via room temperature coprecipitation and subsequent calcination at 1073–1273 K. The pH of the coprecipitation system and the RE3+ to WO42- ratio were found crucial for the formation of the target α phase. Phase transformation from cubic β-(La,Yb,Er)2W2O9 to triclinic α-(La,Yb,Er)2W2O9 occurred when calcination temperature was above 873 K. The UC luminescence including power/temperature dependent emission, decay kinetics of the main emission, emission color, and underlying UC mechanism were systematically investigated. The phosphor exhibited bright green luminescence under 978 nm laser excitation. The main emission (4S3/2→4I15/2) was analyzed to decay in a single exponential manner and have a decay time of 153.86 μs at room temperature. A three-photon mechanism was suggested responsible for the observed UC luminescence through analyzing the UC intensity against excitation power via logarithmic data transformation. The performance of optical temperature sensing was evaluated and compared with other typical UC phosphors. It was shown that the phosphor has relatively high maximum SA and SR values of 0.02694 K−1 (548 K) and 0.01699 K−1 (298 K) for the thermally coupled 2H11/2 and 4S3/2 energy levels in the 298–548 K temperature range.

ObjectivePolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a heterogeneous endocrine and metabolic disease. The gut microbiota is highly correlated with androgen secretion and insulin resistance (IR), which are two potential major pathogenic mechanisms of PCOS. Currently, an antibiotic cocktail (ABX) is often used to construct pseudo germ-free mouse models for studies on the gut microbiota and PCOS. Our work aimed to study the effects of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a high-fat diet (HFD) and ABX on the heterogeneous phenotypes of PCOS mouse models by regulating the gut microbiota.MethodsPCOS mouse models were established by subcutaneous injection of DHEA alone or in combination with a HFD in wild-type and pseudo germ-free mice. The changes in ovary morphology and sex hormonal and glycolipid metabolic parameters were evaluated.ResultsWild-type mice treated with DHEA or DHEA+HFD showed a PCOS-like phenotype of hyperandrogenism, anovulation and polycystic ovaries. The former was combined with hyperinsulinemia and IR, while the latter was combined with glucolipid metabolic disorders, extremely heterogeneous hyperinsulinemia and IR. The phenotype of PCOS mice, especially the metabolic parameters, was correlated with the gut microbiota. The pseudo germ-free mice treated with DHEA or DHEA+HFD also showed a PCOS-like phenotype. However, DHEA could not induce hyperinsulinemia or IR in pseudo germ-free mice. Pseudo germ-free mice treated with DHEA+HFD exhibited decreased serum AMH level, glucolipid metabolic disorders and IR. Compared with the wild-type mice, the pseudo germ-free mice treated with DHEA showed significantly higher testosterone and lipid levels and lower blood glucose levels, and they did not present with hyperinsulinemia or IR.ConclusionA better and stabilized mouse model simulating the pathophysiological defects of PCOS was induced by DHEA alone rather than by DHEA+HFD. The ABX intervention improved glucose metabolic disorders and hyperinsulinemia but aggravated the hyperandrogenism and lipid metabolic disorders of the PCOS mice. This study suggests that the gut microbiota plays an important role in the heterogeneous phenotypes of PCOS mouse models.

Rare earth double tungstates Na(Gd,RE)(WO4)2 (RE = Eu/Yb-Er) were successfully obtained from layered rare earth hydroxide precursors via sacrificial reaction at 200°C with molar ratio WO42-/RE3+ = 2.5 for 24 h reaction without calcination and the employment of any organic reagents. The temperature sensing performances of Na(Gd,RE)(WO4)2 (RE = Eu/Yb-Er) were comparatively investigated by analyzing the temperature-dependent down-conversion (DC) and up-conversion (UC) luminescence spectra. The DC phosphors Na(Gd,Eu)(WO4)2 were found to be well capable of sensing temperature via fluorescence lifetime (FL) mode. The UC phosphors Na(Gd,Yb,Er)(WO4)2 were capable of sensing temperature via both FL mode and fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) mode through thermally coupled 2H11/2,4S3/2 levels (I520/I552), and non thermally coupled 2H11/2,4F9/2 energy levels (I520/I670). The UC phosphors Na(Gd,Yb,Er)(WO4)2 have maximum absolute sensitivity (SA) and maximum relative sensitivity (SR) of 174 × 10−4 K−1 (548 K) and 80 × 10−4 K−1 (298 K) for the thermally coupled 2H11/2,4S3/2 levels and maximum SA and SR of ~260 × 10−4 K−1 (300–550 K) and 96 × 10−4 K−1 (298 K) for the non-thermally coupled 2H11/2,4F9/2 energy levels.

Background: Central fatigue (CF) is a subjective sense of tiredness associated with cognitive and memory disorders, accompanied by reduced physical endurance and negative emotions, such as anxiety and depression. Disease progression and prognosis with regards to CF have been unfavorable and possibly contribute to dementia, schizophrenia, and other diseases. Additionally, effective treatments for CF are lacking. KangPiLao decoction (KPLD) has been widely applied in clinical treatment and is composed of six Chinese herbal medicines, some of which have confirmed anti-fatigue effects. While glutamic acid (Glu) is the main excitatory transmitter in the central nervous system (CNS), gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory transmitter. Both are involved in emotional, cognitive, and memory functions. This research was designed to explore how KPLD regulates cognitive and emotional disorders in rats with CF and to identify the relationship between the regulatory effect and the GABA/Glu pathway.Methods: The compounds comprising KPLD were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Sixty Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups. The modified multiple platform method was used to induce CF. Cognitive, emotional, and fatigue states were evaluated by performing behavioral tests (Morris water maze [MWM], open-field test [OFT], and grip strength test). Histomorphology, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and RT-qPCR were performed to investigate protein and mRNA expression levels in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortexes involved in the GABA/Glu pathway.Results: Rats with CF exhibited impaired spatial cognition and increased negative emotions in the MWM and OFT. KPLD enabled the improvement of these symptoms, especially in the high-concentration group. Western blotting and RT-qPCR demonstrated that the expression of GABAARα1, GABAARγ2, GABABR1, and GAD67 in rats with CF was higher, whereas GAT-1 and NMDAR2B were lower in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. KPLD decreased the expression of GABAARα1, GABABR1, GABAARγ2, and GAD67 in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex and enhanced the expression of NR2B in the prefrontal cortex.Conclusion: KPLD significantly improved cognitive and emotional disorders in rats with CF by regulating the GABA/Glu pathway. Overall, KPLD may be a promising candidate for developing a drug for treating CF.

Abstract Multidrug resistance remains a great challenge for cancer chemotherapy. Herein, a biomimetic drug delivery system based on lemon‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) nanodrugs (marked with heparin‐cRGD‐EVs‐doxorubicin (HRED)) is demonstrated, achieving highly efficient overcoming cancer multidrug resistance. The HRED is fabricated by modifying functional heparin‐cRGD (HR) onto the surface of EVs and then by loading with doxorubicin (DOX). The obtained HRED enable to effectively enter DOX‐resistant cancer cells by caveolin‐mediated endocytosis (main), macropinocytosis (secondary), and clathrin‐mediated endocytosis (last), exhibiting excellent cellular uptake capacity. The diversified endocytosis capacity of HRED can efficiently dissipate intracellular energy and meanwhile trigger downstream production reduction of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), leading to a significant reduction of drug efflux. Consequently, they show excellent anti‐proliferation capacities to DOX‐resistant ovarian cancer, ensuring the efficiently overcoming ovarian cancer multidrug resistance in vivo. The authors believe this strategy provides a new strategy by endocytosis triggered‐energy dissipation and ATP production reduction to design drug delivery system for overcoming cancer multidrug resistance.

K+/Na+ doped ZnWO4:Yb3+,Tm3+ nanophosphors were successfully synthesized via malate assisted hydrothermal reaction at 180 °C for 24 h, followed by calcination at 700 °C for 2 h, and K+/Na+ incorporation was demonstrated to significantly affect the up-conversion (UC) and down-conversion (DC) luminescence of Tm3+. The best luminescent ZnWO4:0.08 Yb3+,0.02 Tm3+ phosphor, which contains ~4.8 at% of Na+ and 0.3 at% of K+, showed intensities ~11 and 20 times those of the phosphor containing only ~3 at% of Na+ for the 483 nm blue and 807 nm NIR UC, respectively, and has a much longer lifetime of ~468.10 ± 0.51 μs for the NIR emission. It was analyzed that the blue and NIR emissions occur via three- and two-photon processes, respectively, and have a high I807/I484 intensity ratio of ~185. Analysis of DC luminescence further confirmed the beneficial effect of K+/Na+ doping and found the co-presence of broad-band emission from [WO6]6- (3T1u → 1A1g transition, ~425–700 nm) and narrow-band emissions from Tm3+ (intra-4f12 transition, at 483, 619 and 653 nm). The effect of Na+/K+ was discussed with the observed UC/DC luminescence properties.

Glechomae Herba (GH) has been widely used in the treatment of urolithiasis, especially kidney stones, in China and Southeast Asia. Pharmacological studies have suggested that the antioxidant property of GH contributes to its anticalculus effect. CaSR is one of the main locations of kidney stones, and the mechanism of action of CaSR inhibitors in the treatment of kidney stones is similar to that of GH. However, until now, the antiurolithic chemical compounds in GH and their interaction with CaSR remain unknown. In our study, we revealed the interaction between the active compounds in GH and the active compounds in CaSR inhibitors by using spectrum-effect relationship analysis, pharmacodynamics, and molecular docking techniques. The results showed ten common peaks from the fingerprints of GH extracts from different regions. Pharmacological experiments showed that GH could significantly treat renal tissue lesions. Chlorogenic acid (CA), rosmarinic acid (RA), P5, luteolin, apigenin, and P9 were screened after the analysis of spectrum-effect relationships. In vitro validation experiments showed that all the screened compounds had inhibitory effects on the development of kidney stones in our model. The molecular docking results showed that the above compounds could be docked with CaSR in a natural state, and the docking score was less than 7. This work constructs a general model for the combination of UPLC-QDA and antiurolithic drugs, studies the spectrum-effect relationship of GH, and provides a new possibility for the development of new antiurolithic drugs.

Supply chain financing guaranteed by third-party logistics (3PL) firms is an effective way to solve the financing difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Studies have explored factors that affect the willingness of supply chain financial credit providers under guarantee of 3PL firms (e.g., the scale of financing enterprises and credit). However, whether the scale of 3PL firms will affect the bank’s credit decision has not been studied, as well as the neural processing of credit decisions. To clarify these issues, this study extracted behavioral and event-related potentials (ERPs) data when participants performed a selection task of judging whether to grant credit to guaranteed financing-seeking enterprises according to the large or small scale of the 3PL guaranteeing firms. The behavioral results showed that under the condition of a large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm, the willingness to provide credit to SMEs was higher than that under the condition of a small-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm. This finding indicates there was credit scale discrimination against 3PL guaranteeing firms in supply chain finance. The ERP results showed that compared with the condition of a large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm, a greater N2 amplitude was induced under the condition of a small-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm, which indicated that credit decision makers experienced greater perceived risk and more decision-making conflict. In contrast, a larger LPP amplitude was detected under the condition of a large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm (as opposed to a small-scale firm), which indicated that large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firms received more positive comments and more positive emotions from credit decision makers than small-scale 3PL guaranteeing firms. Based on these results, this study reveals the cognition process of credit decision makers regarding the impact of the 3PL guaranteeing firm scale on the willingness to provide credit in supply chain finance and explains the theory of credit scale discrimination from the perspective of decision neuroscience.

Nanostructuring of metals is nowadays considered as a promising strategy towards the development of materials with enhanced electrochemical performance. Porous and fully dense CuNi films were electrodeposited on a Cu plate by electrodeposition in view of their application as electrocatalytic materials for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Porous CuNi film were synthesized using the hydrogen bubble template electrodeposition method in an acidic electrolyte, while fully dense CuNi were electrodeposited from a citrate-sulphate bath with the addition of saccharine as a grain refiner. The prepared films were characterized chemically and morphologically by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Rietveld analysis of the XRD data illustrates that both CuNi films have a nanosized crystallite size. Contact angle measurements reveal that the porous CuNi film exhibits remarkable superhydrophobic behavior, and fully dense CuNi film shows hydrophilicity. This is predominately ascribed to the surface roughness of the two films. The HER activity of the two prepared CuNi films were investigated in 1 M KOH solution at room temperature by polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. Porous CuNi exhibits an enhanced catalysis for HER with respect to fully dense CuNi. The HER kinetics for porous film is processed by the Volmer–Heyrovsky reaction, whereas the fully dense counterpart is Volmer-limited. This study presents a clear comparison of HER behavior between porous and fully dense CuNi films.
