Development of Combustion Chemical Vapor Deposition (CCVD) ceramic insulation for Bi-2212 superconducting wires and Rutherford cables is described and discussed.

Considered in this paper is the large deflection of a thin beam. One end of the beam is fixed (clamped) to a rigid wall while the other end is placed on a flat surface of arbitrary orientation. Under the assumption that the axial deformation of the neutral axis is negligible, a closed form analytical solution to the deflection curve is obtained in terms of elliptical functions. The analytical solution is shown to have certain scalability properties with respect to the beam length and cross-section. By using appropriate bending rigidity, the same solution can be used for a thin plate under large cylindrical bending. In addition, a finite element analysis using nonlinear shell elements is also conducted showing the axial strain of the neutral axis to be less than one percent of the overall deformation. A study was conducted to analyze a penny-shaped crack on the interface between two anisotropic elastic half spaces. A solution was determined using the Stroh technique in two-dimensional elasticity in conjunction with the Fourier transform technique. A circular delaminations in a unidirectional and a cross-ply composite examined to determine the solution process. Results indicated that the singular stress fields near the crack edge can be determined based on the interfacial impedance matrix when the oscillatory index is small.

The antagonistic activity of volatile compounds from Streptomyces alboflavus TD‐1 against Aspergillus ochraceus were investigated in this study. Conidial germination and mycelial growth of A. ochraceus were completely suppressed after exposure to 40 and 80 g/L of wheat bran cultures of S. alboflavus TD‐1. A total of 35 compounds (relative peak area [RA] >0.10) were identified from wheat bran cultures of S. alboflavus TD‐1. Five standard compounds were purchased for the antifungal activity assay: anisole, dimethyl trisulfide, β‐pinene, benzenamine and 1,5‐cyclooctadiene. Among these, dimethyl trisulfide and benzenamine showed strong inhibitory effects on the mycelial growth of A. ochraceus. In addition, conidial and hyphal morphological abnormalities were observed in treated A. ochraceus. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and OD‐260 nm absorption analysis demonstrated that disruption of membrane integrity may be a possible mechanism of action for volatiles from S. alboflavus TD‐1. This study indicates that volatiles of S. alboflavus TD‐1 have tremendous potential to act as a strategy for the biocontrol of postharvest diseases in food during storage. Volatiles of Streptomyces alboflavus TD‐1 displayed strong inhibitory effects on Aspergillus ochraceus. Dimethyl trisulfide and benzenamine may play an important role in bioactivity of S. alboflavus TD‐1 and disruption of cell membrane integrity may be the predominant mechanism of action for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of S. alboflavus TD‐1 against A. ochraceus.
