Cardiac remodeling is the primary pathological feature of chronic heart failure (HF). Exploring the characteristics of cardiac remodeling in the very early stages of HF and identifying targets for intervention are essential for discovering novel mechanisms and therapeutic strategies. Silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog 3 (SIRT3), as a major mitochondrial nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent deacetylase, is required for mitochondrial metabolism. However, whether SIRT3 plays a role in cardiac remodeling by regulating the biosynthesis of mitochondrial cardiolipin (CL) is unknown. In this study, we induced pressure overload in wild-type (WT) and SIRT3 knockout (SIRT3−/−) mice via transverse aortic constriction (TAC). Compared with WT mouse hearts, the hearts of SIRT3−/− mice exhibited more-pronounced cardiac remodeling and fibrosis, greater reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, decreased mitochondrial-membrane potential (ΔΨm), and abnormal mitochondrial morphology after TAC. Furthermore, SIRT3 deletion aggravated TAC-induced decrease in total CL content, which might be associated with the downregulation of the CL synthesis related enzymes cardiolipin synthase 1 (CRLS1) and phospholipid-lysophospholipid transacylase (TAFAZZIN). In our in vitro experiments, SIRT3 overexpression prevented angiotensin II (AngII)- induced aberrant mitochondrial function, CL biosynthesis disorder, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) downregulation in cardiomyocytes; meanwhile, SIRT3 knockdown exacerbated these effects. Moreover, the addition of GW9662, a PPARγ antagonist, partially counteracted the beneficial effects of SIRT3 overexpression. In conclusion, SIRT3 regulated PPARγ-mediated CL biosynthesis, maintained the structure and function of mitochondria, and thereby protected the myocardium against cardiac remodeling. Background This study aimed to assess the long-term effects of size-specific particulate matter (PM) on frailty transitions in middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Methods We included 13 910 participants ≥45 y of age from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) for 2015 and 2018 who were classified into three categories in 2015 according to their frailty states: robust, prefrail and frail. Air quality data were obtained from the National Urban Air Quality Real-time Publishing Platform. A two-level logistic regression model was used to examine the association between concentrations of PM and frailty transitions. Results At baseline, the total number of robust, prefrail and frail participants were 7516 (54.0%), 4324 (31.1%) and 2070 (14.9%), respectively. Significant associations were found between PM concentrations and frailty transitions. For each 10 μg/m3 increase in the 3-y averaged 2.5-μm PM (PM2.5) concentrations, the risk of worsening in frailty increased in robust (odds ratio [OR] 1.06 [95% confidence interval {CI} 1.01 to 1.12]) and prefrail (OR 1.07 [95% CI 1.01 to 1.13]) participants, while the probability of improvement in frailty in prefrail (OR 0.91 [95% CI 0.84 to 0.98]) participants decreased. In addition, the associations of PM10 and coarse fraction of PM with frailty transitions showed similar patterns. Information on the interiors of stars can be gleaned from their pulsations. Pulsation modes, which are determined by the internal state and structure of a star, are typically considered stable over short timescales. These independent pulsation modes have been used in asteroseismology to determine the interior structures of stars. Here, we report the discovery of peculiar pulsation mode interactions in the high-amplitude δ Scuti star KIC 6382916 (J19480292+4146558) that challenge the reliability of independent pulsation modes as indicators of a star's internal structure. Through analysis of archival data, we find distinct variations in the amplitudes and frequencies of three independent pulsation modes and their harmonics and combinations over approximately 20 days. These variations can reach amplitudes of about 140% and frequency variations of about 12%. Correlation analysis of amplitude and frequency variations reveal additional pulsation mode interaction details and patterns. Notably, our findings regarding the phenomena related to the harmonics of independent pulsation modes challenge the traditional understanding in this area. Currently, single‐atom catalysts (SACs) research mainly focuses on transition metal atoms as active centers. Due to their delocalized s/p‐bands, the s‐block main group metal elements are typically regarded as catalytically inert. Herein, an s‐block potassium SAC (K−N−C) with K‐N4 configuration is reported for the first time, which exhibits excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity and stability under alkaline conditions. Specifically, the half‐wave potential (E1/2) is up to 0.908 V, and negligible changes in E1/2 are observed after 10,000 cycles. In addition, the K−N−C offers an exceptional power density of 158.1 mW cm−2 and remarkable durability up to 420 h in a Zn‐air battery. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations show that K−N−C has bifunctional active K and C sites, can optimize the free energy of ORR reaction intermediates, and adjust the rate‐determining steps. The crystal orbital Hamilton population (COHP) results showed that the s orbitals of K played a major role in the adsorption of intermediates, which was different from the d orbitals in transition metals. To compare outcomes after oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) versus minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MISTLIF) with bilateral decompression via unilateral approach for treating mild to moderate symptomatic degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS). We retrospectively compared patients who underwent single-level (L4/5) OLIF with an age-, sex-, and segment-matched MISTLIF with bilateral decompression via unilateral approach cohort. Perioperative data were collected for the operative time, intraoperative blood loss, drainage in the first postoperative day, postoperative hospital stay, cost, intraoperative fluoroscopy, and complications. Lumbar radiographs were measured for changes in posterior intervertebral space height (PISH), intervertebral space foramen height (IFH), intervertebral foramen area (IFA), and area of the spinal canal (ASC). Clinical and psychological outcomes included the visual analog scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). 35 OLIF patients were compared with 35 MISTLIF patients in L4/5 DLSS. The OLIF group had shorter bedtime, postoperative hospital stays, less intraoperative and postoperative blood loss (all P < 0.05), but had more times of intraoperative fluoroscopy, longer operative time, and higher cost (all P < 0.05). The complication rates were equivalent (OLIF vs MISTLIF: 22.86% vs 17.14%). PISH (11.94 ± 1.78 mm vs 9.42 ± 1.94 mm, P < 0.05), IFH (23.87 ± 3.05 mm vs 21.41 ± 2.95 mm, P < 0.05), and IFA (212.14 ± 51.82 mm2 vs 177.07 ± 51.73 mm2, P < 0.05) after surgery were significantly increased in the OLIF group. The ASC was increased significantly after the operation in both groups, but the ASC in the MISTLIF group was increased significantly more than that in the OLIF group (450.04 ± 66.66 mm2 vs 171.41 ± 58.55 mm2, P < 0.05). The lumbar VAS scores at 1 month (1.89 ± 0.87 vs 2.34 ± 0.84, P = 0.028) and 6 months (1.23 ± 0.97 vs 1.80 ± 0.99, P = 0.018) after operation in the OLIF group were significantly lower. There were no significant differences in lower extremity VAS and ODI scores between the two groups. Compared with MISTLIF group, HADS scores on postoperative day 3 (2.91 ± 1.46 vs 4.89 ± 1.78, P < 0.05) and prior to hospital discharge (PTD) (2.54 ± 1.38 vs 3.80 ± 1.78, P = 0.002) in the OLIF group were decreased significantly. OLIF showed more advantages of less surgical invasion, lower incidence of postoperative low back pain, faster postoperative recovery, and less anxiety compared with MISTLIF. Cu 2 O/MoO 2 hybrid was prepared for photoelectrocatalytic water reduction. Theoretical and experimental results both indicate the charge transfers from Cu 2 O to MoO 2 and forms an intimated binding interface via ionic interaction. A well-aligned energy level was formed between Cu 2 O and MoO 2 , which enables the formation of an internal electric field at their interfaces, facilitating charge separation, directional transfer, and reaction. The reduction of Cu+ and the photocorrosion of Cu 2 O were inhibited via the deposited MoO 2 , and finally, Cu 2 O/MoO 2 hybrid exhibited improved PEC activity and stability. Photoelectrocatalyzing water reduction is a potential approach to building a green and sustainable society. As a benchmark photocathode, Cu 2 O receives much attention but faces serious charge recombination and photocorrosion. This work prepared an excellent Cu 2 O/MoO 2 photocathode via in situ electrodeposition. A systematical study of theory and experiment demonstrates that MoO 2 not only effectively passivates the surface state of Cu 2 O as well as accelerates reaction kinetics as a cocatalyst, but also promotes the directional migration and separation of photogenerated charge. As expected, the constructed photocathode exhibits a highly enhanced photocurrent density and an appealing energy transformation efficacy. Importantly, MoO 2 can inhibit the reduction of Cu+ in Cu 2 O via a formed internal electric field and shows excellent photoelectrochemical stability. The development of efficient non-noble metal catalysts that can operate at high current densities for sluggish oxygen evolution is crucial for the large-scale commercialization of water electrolysis. Herein, we have developed a heterostructure oxygen evolution anode material that satisfies the requirements of ampere-level current density using a straightforward calcination-electroplating approach. Due to the natural p–n junction interface, a built-in electric field is induced in the Ni3P/NiFe LDH electrode, resulting in high conductivity and low gas transmission resistance. As a result of its heterogeneous structure, abundant active sites, and rapid interfacial electron transfer, this Ni3P/NiFe LDH exhibits outstanding catalytic performance, achieving an oxygen evolution current density of 1.4 A cm−2 with an ultra-low overpotential of 304 mV. DFT calculations indicate that the formed p–n junction effectively drives electron transfer and directly influences the charge density surrounding the active center, thereby enhancing intrinsic activity. Cocamidopropyl hydroxyl sulfobetaine (CHSB) is one of the most promising foaming agents for highsalinity reservoirs because the salt in place facilitates its foam stability, even with salinity as high as 2 x 105 mg/L. However, the synergistic effects between CHSB and salt have not been fully understood. This study utilized bulk foam tests and thin-film interferometry to comprehensively investigate the macroscopic and microscopic decay processes of CHSB foams with NaCl concentrations ranging from 2.3 x 104 to 2.1 x 105 mg/L. We focused on the dilatational viscoelasticity and dynamic thin-film thickness to elucidate the high-salinity-enhanced foam stability. The increase in dilatational viscoelasticity and supramolecular oscillating structural force (POS) with salinity dominated the superior stability of CHSB foam. With increasing salinity, more CHSB molecules accumulated on the surface with a lower diffusion rate, leading to high dilatational moduli and surface elasticity, thus decelerating coarsening and coalescence. Meanwhile, the number density of micelles in the thin film increased with salinity, resulting in increased POS. Consequently, the energy barrier for stepwise thinning intensified, and the thin-film drainage slowed. • The first comprehensive evaluation of efficacy and safety profile for therapeutic regimens despite optimized RAS blockade among IgA nephropathy patients at high risk of disease progression. • Dapagliflozin appeared to have the best comparative performance in end stage renal disease prevention and the lowest risk of serious adverse events. • Immunosuppressant was with the best comparative efficacy in promoting clinical remission and decreasing proteinuria, but with less robust safety profile. Approximately 20–40% of IgA nephropathy patients would develop end-stage renal disease, for whom safety concerns remained a major setback when using conventional pharmaceutical treatments. Evidence is lacking for optimal selection of effective and safe pharmaceuticals to slow the disease progression. To compare the effectiveness and safety profile of different treatments despite optimized RAS blockade for IgA nephropathy patients at high-risk of disease progression. PubMed, ScienceDirect and Web of science databases published from 1990 to March 18th, 2023 without language restriction. Immunosuppressant and cortico-steroid treatments were considered as two independent regimens. Fifteen trials with 1,983 participants were evaluated for the occurrence of five outcomes. For ESRD, dapagliflozin was superior to placebo (RR: 0.30; 95% CI 0.11, 0.80), immunosuppressant (RR:0.14; 95% CI 0.02,0.81) and RAS (RR:0.10; 95% CI 0.01,0.69). Glucocorticoid was superior to placebo (RR: 0.71; 95%CI 0.52,0.99). For clinical remission, immunosuppressant was superior to placebo (RR: 2.71; 95%CI 1.16, 6.31) and RAS monotherapy (RR: 2.87; 95%CI 1.60, 5.17). Cluster ranking showed dapagliflozin appeared to have the lowest SAE risk and the best comparative therapeutic efficacy in preventing ESRD. Dynamical properties of vector localized and periodic waves hold significant importance in the study of physical systems. In this work, we investigate the matrix Hirota equation with sign-alternating nonlinearity via the binary Darboux transformation. For the two interacting components, we construct the binary Darboux transformation formulas, vector localized, and periodic wave solutions. Via those solutions, different kinds of nonlinear waves can be achieved, including rogue waves, solitons, positons, and periodic waves. When the imaginary part of the spectral parameter is not zero, eye-shaped rogue waves appear in one component, and the twisted rogue wave pairs in the other component. As the spectral parameter is real, we derive distinct forms of vector localized and periodic waves on the non-zero background, such as the vector solitons, positons, periodic waves, breathers on the periodic wave background, and rational solitons. Self-harm in young people is common, and previous studies have shown that insufficient sleep or depression was associated with self-harm. However, the joint association of insufficient sleep and depression with self-harm is unknown. We employed representative population-based data from the "Surveillance for Common Disease and Health Risk Factors Among Students in Jiangsu Province 2019" project. College students reported their self-harm behavior over the past year. Rate ratios (RRs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for self-harm in relation to sleep and depression were modeled using negative binomial regression with a sample population as an offset, adjusting for age, gender, and region. The instrumental variable approach was used for the sensitivity analyses. Of the study population, approximately 3.8% reported self-harm behaviors. Students with sufficient sleep experienced a lower risk of self-harm than those with insufficient sleep. Compared with students with sufficient sleep and the absence of depression, the adjusted risk of self-harm was elevated 3-fold (1.46–4.51) in those reporting insufficient sleep in the absence of depression, 11-fold (6.26–17.77) in those with sufficient sleep and definite depression, and 15-fold (8.54–25.17) in those with both insufficient sleep and definite depression. The sensitivity analyses indicate that insufficient sleep remained a contributing risk factor for self-harm. Lack of sleep in young people is significantly associated with self-harm, particularly in the presence of depression. A low‐profile planar end‐fire broadband antenna with wide beamwidth is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW), an antipodal dipole, and a pair of directors. A transition from the GCPW to the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) with tapered coupling slots is designed to achieve a wide impedance bandwidth. Wide beamwidths of the proposed antenna are realised through the antipodal dipole with bilaterally symmetrical sector arms. A pair of directors are symmetrically located on both sides of the sector arms to further widen the beamwidth. An antenna prototype operating at Ka band with a size of 2.18 λ0 × 0.77 λ0 × 0.06 λ0 (λ0 is the wavelength of the centre frequency) is fabricated based on the conventional printed circuit board process. The measurement results show that the reflection coefficient is lower than −12.5 dB in the frequency range of 32.2–37.0 GHz. At 35.5 GHz, the peak gain is 3.8 dBi, and the half‐power beamwidths (HPBWs) in E‐plane and H‐plane are 116° and 215°, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Medication safety among children represents an underrecognized public health concern worldwide, yet little evidence was found in China. This study aimed to examine trends in rates of pediatric adverse drug reaction (ADR) reports in Jiangsu Province of China with a catchment population of more than 11 million children. Methods: Data for children aged under 15 years were extracted from the spontaneous reporting system of ADR surveillance in Jiangsu Province. Suspected therapeutic agents for ADRs were coded using the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical classification system. We used the Chinese modification of the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, to group primary diseases, and the Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities to classify the manifestation of ADRs. We used Joinpoint to estimate age-adjusted ADR rates stratified by sex from July 2010 to June 2019, and further by specific features, including patient characteristics, main suspected therapeutic medications, primary diseases, and ADRs. We used the percentage change annualized estimator to evaluate trends over time. Results: A total of 79,903 ADR reports were identified among children aged under 15 years, which accounted for 11.4% of all ADRs reported in Jiangsu Province during the same period. The age-adjusted ADR report rates increased significantly from 66.20 to 96.76 per 100,000 children during the period July 2010–June 2019, with an annual increase of 4.9% (95% confidence interval 1.3–8.5%; p value 0.014). Of all ADR reports, there were 47,774 (59.8%) boys and 32,129 (40.2%) girls. Children aged 0–4 years accounted for more than half of the ADR reports (n = 47,680, 59.7%). Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders were the most frequently reported ADRs (45,773, 57.3%). Respiratory diseases were the most commonly observed medical conditions in relation to pediatric ADRs, accounting for 68.8% (n = 54,940) of all ADR reports, and anti-infectives for systemic use consistently represented over time the most common medication group, contributing to 69.8% of all reports. A reduction in ADR report rates was observed for vaccines, with an annual decrease of 19% in children. Conclusions: ADRs remain a public health challenge among the vulnerable pediatric populations. Simple Summary: The photoperiod regulates the follicle development in the seasonal reproduction of animals through the HPO axis, which enables the offspring to be born in specific seasons to better adapt to the external environment. However, the specific mechanism remains unclear. Granulosa cells in the ovary are crucial for the follicle development and the maintenance of the ovarian function. This study focused on the structure of ovaries and the development state of the granulosa cells under different photoperiods, to determine the molecular mechanism of the photoperiod regulating follicle development in the seasonal reproduction of animals. We found that, under different photoperiods, the synergistic effect of hormones in the HPO axis ultimately affects the FSH secretion, participates in the regulation of the Nodal/ALK7 signaling pathway, and regulates the granulosa cell apoptosis, thus affecting the ovarian function, and ultimately, seasonal reproduction. These results suggest that partial molecular mechanisms of the seasonal reproduction and provide a theory basis to manipulate the animal reproduction. The photoperiod regulates the seasonal reproduction of mammals by affecting the follicle development, for which the granulosa cells provide nutrition. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, Djungarian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) were raised under different photoperiods to study the ovarian status and explore the potential mechanism of the follicle development mediated by the FSH-Nodal/ALK7 signaling pathway. Compared with the moderate daylight (MD) group, the short daylight (SD) group exhibited a significant decrease in the ovarian weight and increase in the atretic follicle number and granulosa cell apoptosis, whereas the long daylight (LD) group showed an increase in the ovarian weight, the growing follicle number, and the antral follicle number, but a decrease in the granulosa cell apoptosis. Based on these findings, the key genes of the Nodal/ALK7 signaling pathway controlling the granulosa cell apoptosis were studied using the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. In the SD group, the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentration significantly decreased and the Nodal/ALK7/Smad signaling pathways were activated, while the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PIK3)/Akt signaling pathway was inhibited. The BAX expression was significantly increased, while the Bcl-xL expression was significantly decreased, leading to an increase in the caspase-3 activity, the granulosa cell apoptosis, and ovarian degeneration. However, in the LD group, the FSH concentration significantly increased, the Nodal/ALK7/Smad signaling pathway was inhibited, and the PIK3/Akt signaling pathway was activated. Taken together, our results indicate that the photoperiod can regulate the apoptosis of the granulosa cells by regulating the concentration of FSH, activating or inhibiting the Nodal/ALK7 signaling pathway, thereby affecting the ovarian function. One of the hallmarks of plant senescence is the global transcriptional reprogramming coordinated by a plethora of transcription factors (TFs). However, mechanisms underlying the interactions between different TFs in modulating senescence remain obscure. Previously, we discovered that plant ABS3 subfamily MATE transporter genes regulate senescence and senescence‐associated transcriptional changes. In a genetic screen for mutants suppressing the accelerated senescence phenotype of the gain‐of‐function mutant abs3‐1D, AUXIN RESPONSE FACTOR 2 (ARF2) and PHYTOCHROME‐INTERACTING FACTOR 5 (PIF5) were identified as key TFs responsible for transcriptional regulation in the ABS3‐mediated senescence pathway. ARF2 and PIF5 (as well as PIF4) interact directly and function interdependently to promote senescence, and they share common target genes such as key senescence promoting genes ORESARA 1 (ORE1) and STAY‐GREEN 1 (SGR1) in the ABS3‐mediated senescence pathway. In addition, we discovered reciprocal regulation between ABS3‐subfamily MATEs and the ARF2 and PIF5/4 TFs. Taken together, our findings reveal a regulatory paradigm in which the ARF2‐PIF5/4 functional module facilitates the transcriptional reprogramming in the ABS3‐mediated senescence pathway. Preserved eggs are a kind of traditional Chinese egg products with a long history, which are highly valued by consumers. Preserved eggs are usually made from fresh poultry eggs in pickling solutions containing strong alkali, salt, and metallic salts. Preserved eggs not only have a unique color, fragrance, and flavor, but also have improved nutritional value and functional activity; thus, they have attracted the attention of researchers. Although preserved eggs have been widely studied, there are not yet systematic enough. To deepen research on preserved eggs, this paper summarizes the processing technology, metal ion regulation, functional activity, and formation mechanism of gelation, color, flavor, and Songhua of preserved eggs, and raises ideas for the future study of preserved eggs. Under the synergistic induction of strong alkali and metal ions, in fresh poultry eggs, sols gradually aggregate to form gels, thus becoming preserved eggs. In the process, the Maillard reaction occurs between the amino acids and glucose present in the eggs, forming the unique flavor and color of preserved eggs. Fe, Mo-doped Ni3S2 nanosheets that are derived from NiFe-LDH by structural transformation have been successfully developed. The obtained Fe, Mo-Ni3S2 exhibits a low overpotential of 67 mV to enable a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for the HER and the overpotential for the OER is only 240 mV. Background: Exosomes derived from bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are potential candidates for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment. The present study investigated the therapeutic effect and potential mechanism of BMSCs-derived exosomes on pyroptosis in IBD. Methods: We induced IBD in mice and cell models through dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) and LPS, respectively. The mRNA and protein expression levels were assessed by qRT–PCR, Western blotting, IF and IHC. The concentrations of IL-1β, IL-18 and TNFα were assessed using ELISA. ROS levels were determined using DCFH-DA staining. Cell proliferation of mIECs was analysed using an MTT assay. In addition, a flow cytometry assay was performed to detect pyroptosis. Finally, the binding relationship between miR-539-5p and NLRP3 was verified by a dual luciferase reporter gene assay. Results: Our results revealed that intraperitoneal injection of BMSCs-derived exosomes inhibited DSS-induced pyroptosis as well as IBD symptoms in mice. In addition, BMSCs-derived exosome treatment suppressed pyroptosis, ROS levels and the concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-18 and TNFα) in LPS-treated mIECs in a miR-539-5p-dependent manner. Further research found that miR-539-5p suppressed NLRP3 expression in mIECs by directly targeting NLRP3. As expected, pyroptosis in LPS-treated mIECs was significantly reduced by NLRP3 knockdown. In addition, NLRP3 silencing restored the inhibitory effect of exosomes derived from BMSCs transfected with miR-539-5p inhibitor on pyroptosis in LPS-treated mIECs. • The relapse rate after discontinuation was approximately 34.81 % at 6 months. • Antidepressant duration is associated with relapse risk in a non-linear curve. • Antidepressant treatment for more than 3 months is necessary to avoid the subsequent high risk of relapse. • The additional benefit of prolonger treatment beyond 6 months remains to be proven. The optimal duration of antidepressant treatment for patients with major depressive disorder to reduce the risk of relapse after discontinuation remains uncertain. Medline, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Embase were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with a discontinuation design. A single-group summary meta-analysis was performed to calculate 6-month relapse rates after discontinuation. Meta-regression with restricted cubic splines was performed to model the non-linear relationship between treatment duration and relapse rate after discontinuation. Thirty-five RCTs were included. The relapse rate after discontinuation was approximately 34.81 % at 6 months and 45.12 % at 12 months. After controlling for covariates, the meta-analysis shows that the duration of treatment is associated with the risk of relapse after discontinuation in a non-linear curve, with a relatively higher risk of relapse observed for a duration of less than three months. There appears to be no further reduction in the risk of relapse when treatment is continued for over six months. Our results indicate the importance of at least three months of treatment to avoid the relatively high risk of relapse after discontinuation. Background. Redo operation for failed tricuspid bioprosthetic valves is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Transcatheter tricuspid valve-in-valve implantation has become an acceptable option for high-risk patients with a failed tricuspid bioprosthesis. We present a case of successful tricuspid valve-in-valve implantation using a J-valve in a failed tricuspid bioprosthesis position. Case Summary. A 48-year-old male, who had a failed tricuspid bioprosthesis, presented with right-side heart failure, right-to-left shunting at the atrial level, severe dyspnea, cyanosis, peripheral edema, hepatauxe, and ascites. After the interdisciplinary assessment, we successfully performed transcatheter tricuspid valve-in-valve implantation with the J-valve system. At 34-month postoperative follow-up, the patient had no symptoms of heart failure and the echocardiogram showed good valve position and well hemodynamic status. Conclusions. The complexation of the antitumor agent busulfan by negatively charged carboxylatopillar[5]arene in water is reported. The encapsulation within carboxylatopillar[5]arene reduces the hydrolytic degradation of busulfan from 90.7% to 25.2% after 24 days and accordingly enhances its stability by providing a hydrophobic shelter for busulfan in water. Moreover, the complexation results in 12 times improvement of water solubility for busulfan. Our result provides a supramolecular approach for stabilizing the anticancer agent busulfan. Smilax china L. is used not only as a kind of traditional Chinese herbal medicinal ingredients with various pharmacological properties, but also as food in certain parts of China. However, it is by far still unclear whether Smilax china L. polyphenols (SCP), as important bioactive constituents in Smilax china L., have effects on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). This study investigated the impact of SCP on the dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced IBD and gut microbiota in mice. SCP treatments ameliorated typical symptoms of IBD as what was reflected through suppressing body weight loss, colonic shortening, intestinal barrier damage, and increasing intestinal disease activity index. SCP treatments simultaneously decreased the release of proinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress, as well as promoted the release of anti-inflammatory factors. Furthermore, SCP ameliorated the ecological imbalance of gut microbiota and regulated the key bacteria associated with IBD (including Akkermansiaceae, Ruminococcaceae, Acidaminococcaceae, Muribaculaceae, and Anaeroplasmataceae). In general, SCP may improve DSS-induced IBD in mice by regulating inflammatory factors, inhibiting oxidative stress, reducing intestinal tissue damage, and regulating the ecological imbalance of intestinal microbiota. Introduction: The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities identified the Chinese blind massage policy as "reserved employment" in its Concluding Observations in 2012. In response, this paper reviewed the policy on blind massage in China and discussed its effectiveness and social impact. Methods: Adopting a historical perspective, this paper describes the development stages of the blind massage policy in China. It reveals the social construction process of the blind massage policy. Government data were provided to help analyze the positive and negative effects of the policy according to the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Results: The blind massage policy is a national strategy involving semi-reserved employment to improve the low employment rate of people with visual impairments in China. It promoted employment of people with visual impairments at the start, but, as the system of the blind massage gradually took shape, it restricted these individuals from choosing a career freely. The blind massage policy has resulted in deep-rooted social prejudices, and it demonstrates disability-based discrimination and charity-oriented practices. Discussion: The Chinese blind massage policy is discriminatory and does not reflect the modern concept of disability rights advocated in the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Implications for Practitioners: The Chinese government needs to promote institutional reforms to provide better education and employment for people with visual impairments to change the limited content of vocational training and eliminate discriminatory policies. In this paper, MCNP5 code is used to establish a landmine clearance system based on pulse fast thermal neutron method. The system prototype is modeled based on the NG-9 D-T neutron generator, which is independently developed by Northeast Normal University. Gamma rays produced by fast neutron inelastic scattering and thermal neutron capture are used to identify suspicious areas. The neutron flux passing through landmine cell before and after adding neutron reflector into initial detection system is studied. The simulation results show that the addition of a neutron reflection layer hardly improves the flux of fast neutrons passing through the landmine cell during at pulse width of 10 µs; but the thermal neutron flux through the landmine cell in the pulse interval of 90 µs is significantly increased. Among the several common reflector materials, tungsten (W) and tungsten carbide (WC) materials show better reflection performance. When W and WC are used as reflector materials and the thickness is 6 cm, the thermal neutron flux through the landmine cell is 2.00 and 1.90 times the initial value, respectively. The ratio of the thermal neutron flux in the pulse interval to the fast neutron flux during the emission of the neutron pulse increased to 0.468 and 0.444, respectively, from the initial value of 0.259. Finally, the improved model is used to simulate the landmines hidden in different depths. The results show that using 4.44 MeV and 2.22 MeV peak area counts in the region of interest can identify whether there are explosives in the detection area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (P450 or CYP) plays an important role in the metabolism of insecticides and plant allelochemicals by insects. CYP321B1 , a novel Spodoptera litura P450 gene, was identified and characterized. CYP321B1 contains a 1488 bp open reading frame (ORF) that encodes a 495 amino acid protein. In fourth instar larvae, the highest CYP321B1 expression levels were found in the midgut and fat body. In the tannin feeding test, tannin can significantly induce the expression of CYP321B1 in the midgut and fat body of 4th instar larvae. To verify the function of CYP321B1, RNA interference and metabolome analysis were performed. The results showed that silencing CYP321B1 significantly reduced the rate of weight gain under tannin induction. Metabolome analysis showed silencing affected 47 different metabolites, mainly involved in secondary metabolite biosynthesis and amino acid metabolism, including amino acids, lipid fatty acids, organic acids and their derivatives. Henoxyacetic acid and cysteamine are the most highly regulated metabolites, respectively. These findings demonstrate that CYP321B1 plays an important role in tannin detoxification and metabolism. Intestinal epithelial barrier destruction occurs earlier than mucosal immune dysfunction in the acute stage of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infections. At present, however, the cause of compromised gastrointestinal integrity in early SIV infection remains unknown. In the current study, we investigated the effects of SIV infection on epithelial barrier integrity and explored oxidative stress-mediated DNA damage and apoptosis in epithelial cells from early acute SIVmac239-infected Chinese rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta). Results showed that the sensitive molecular marker of small intestinal barrier dysfunction, i.e., intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (IFABP), was significantly increased in plasma at 14 days post-SIV infection. SIV infection induced a profound decrease in the expression of tight junction proteins, including claudin-1, claudin-3, and zonula occludens (ZO)-1, as well as a significant increase in the active form of caspase-3 level in epithelial cells. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis suggested that differentially expressed genes between pre- and post-SIV-infected jejuna were enriched in pathways involved in cell redox homeostasis, oxidoreductase activity, and mitochondria. Indeed, a SIV-mediated increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the epithelium and macrophages, as well as an increase in hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) and decrease in glutathione (GSH)/glutathione disulfide (GSSG) antioxidant defense, were observed in SIV-infected jejuna. In addition, the accumulation of mitochondrial dysfunction and DNA oxidative damage led to an increase in senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) and early apoptosis in intestinal epithelial cells. Furthermore, HIV-1 Tat protein-induced epithelial monolayer disruption in HT-29 cells was rescued by antioxidant N -acetylcysteine (NAC). Background: Quantitative cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) T1 and T2 mapping are used to detect diffuse disease such as myocardial fibrosis or edema. However, post gadolinium contrast mapping often lacks visual contrast needed for assessment of focal scar. On the other hand, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) CMR which nulls the normal myocardium has excellent contrast between focal scar and normal myocardium but has poor ability to detect global disease. The objective of this work is to provide a calculated bright-blood (BB) and dark-blood (DB) LGE based on simultaneous acquisition of T1 and T2 maps, so that both diffuse and focal disease may be assessed within a single multi-parametric acquisition. Methods: The prototype saturation recovery-based SASHA T1 mapping may be modified to jointly calculate T1 and T2 maps (known as multi-parametric SASHA) by acquiring additional saturation recovery (SR) images with both SR and T2 preparations. The synthetic BB phase sensitive inversion recovery (PSIR) LGE may be calculated from the post-contrast T1, and the DB PSIR LGE may be calculated from the post-contrast joint T1 and T2 maps. Multi-parametric SASHA maps were acquired free-breathing (45 heartbeats). Protocols were designed to use the same spatial resolution and achieve similar signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as conventional motion corrected (MOCO) PSIR. The calculated BB and DB LGE were compared with separate free breathing (FB) BB and DB MOCO PSIR acquisitions requiring 16 and 32 heart beats, respectively. One slice with myocardial infarction (MI) was acquired with all protocols within 4 min. Results: Multiparametric T1 and T2 maps and calculated BB and DB PSIR LGE images were acquired for patients with subendocardial chronic MI (n = 10), acute MI (n = 3), and myocarditis (n = 1). The contrast-to-noise (CNR) between scar (MI and myocarditis) and remote was 26.6 ± 7.7 and 20.2 ± 7.4 for BB and DB PSIR LGE, and 31.3 ± 10.6 and 21.8 ± 7.6 for calculated BB and DB PSIR LGE, respectively. Background: Upregulation of circHIPK3 has been observed in several kinds of malignancies. However, the mechanisms of circHIPK3 in HCC metastases remains unclear. We investigated the role and the mechanisms of circHIPK3 in the development of HCC. Methods: HCC tissues and paired adjacent non-tumor tissues of surgical patients were used to evaluate circHIPK3 expression. A series of biological experiments had been taken to evaluate the pro-metastatic ability of circHIPK3 during HCC development in vitro and in vivo. The potential mechanisms of circHIPK3 in HCC development were identified by RT-qPCR, Western blot, RIP, and luciferase reporter assays. Results: CircHIPK3 expression is significantly upregulated during HCC development. Overexpression of circHIPK3 promotes cell migration, invasion, and metastases in vitro and in vivo. CircHIPK3 promoted HCC metastases by sponging miR-338-3p to regulate EMT-associated proteins E-cadherin, vimentin, and ZEB2 expression. This study aimed to investigatethe mechanism of stewing with tea polyphenols (TP) on the properties of boiled egg white gel (BEWG). The results indicated that, during the stewing process, soluble protein and hardness showed an overall increasing trend, while surface hydrophobicity showed a decreasing trend with blue‐shift. The free sulfhydryl group showed that TP could promote the formation of disulfide bonds, and the position of immobilized water at T2 showed a decreasing trend. Environmental scanning electron microscopy and SDS‐PAGE showed that the protein gel aggregation degree increased. Moreover, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry showed that protein polarity increased and that α‐helices, β‐turn, intramolecular β‐sheets, as well as intermolecular antiparallel β‐sheets showed an increasing trend. Generally, TP strengthened protein aggregation by promoting the formation of disulfide and hydrogen bonds, thus enhancing the gel strength of BEWG. Moreover, the secondary structure of proteins became more stable under the action of TP, and the higher the concentration of TP, the greater the effect on BEWG. Practical Application: TP, an ideal, cheap, and safe natural food additive, can be applied to the processing of egg products because the addition of TP can significantly improve the gel strength of egg white. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common inflammation-related intestinal disease. Studies have shown that excessive pyroptosis of intestinal cells is involved in the development of IBD. However, the regulatory mechanism of pyroptosis in IBD remains unclear. Here, our study purposed to clarify the underlying regulatory mechanism of miR-223 to promote pyroptosis in IBD. MiR-223 and Smad Nuclear Interacting Protein 1 (SNIP1) expression in colon tissues collected from IBD patients and healthy volunteers were evaluated using qRT-PCR. Cell viability and pyroptosis were evaluated by CCK8 and flow cytometry assay, respectively. Pyroptosis-related proteins and nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signals were determined by WB. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay was employed to investigate the binding relationship between miR-223 and SNIP1. MiR-223 was significantly upregulated in IBD colon tissues and cell models, while SNIP1 was significantly decreased. Silence of miR-223 markedly enhanced cell viability and inhibited pyroptosis in the IBD cell model. MiR-223 could bind to 3'-UTR of SNIP1 and SNIP1 could activate NF-κB signalling pathway. Further rescued experiment found that knockdown of SNIP1 dramatically abolished the bio-effects mediated by miR-223 silence on the cell viability and pyroptosis of the IBD cell model. Likewise, the inactivation of NF-κB signalling markedly weakened the regulatory roles of SNIP1 downregulation in the IBD cell model. Besides, inhibition of NF-κB signalling attenuated the pyroptosis-promoting effect of overexpressing miR-223. Our data suggested that miR-223 activated the NF-κB pathway via targeting SNIP1, thus promoting the process of cell pyroptosis, and ultimately participating in the pathogenesis of IBD. Background: It is very necessary to implement gastric cancer screening in China to reduce the mortality of gastric cancer, but there are no national screening guidelines and programs. Understanding of individual preferences is conducive to formulating more acceptable screening strategies, and discrete choice experiments can quantify individual preferences. In addition, the first-degree relatives of gastric cancer patients are at high risk for gastric cancer. Compared with those without a family history of gastric cancer, the risk of gastric cancer in first-degree relatives of gastric cancer patients is increased by 60%. Therefore, a discrete choice experiment was carried out to quantitatively analyse the preferences of first-degree relatives of gastric cancer patients for gastric cancer screening to serve as a reference for the development of gastric cancer screening strategies.Methods: A questionnaire was designed based on a discrete choice experiment, and 342 first-degree relatives of gastric cancer patients were investigated. In STATA 15.0 software, the data were statistically analysed using a mixed logit model.Results: The five attributes included in our study had a significant influence on the preferences of first-degree relatives of gastric cancer patients for gastric cancer screening (P < 0.05). Participants most preferred the sensitivity of the screening program to be 95% (coefficient = 1.424, P < 0.01) with a willingness to pay 2501.902 Yuan (95% CI, 738.074-4265.729). In addition, the participants' sex and screening experiences affected their preferences. An increase in sensitivity 35 to 95% had the greatest impact on the participants' willingness to choose a gastric cancer screening program.Conclusion: The formulation of gastric cancer screening strategies should be rooted in people's preferences. The influence of sex differences and screening experiences on the preferences of people undergoing screening should be considered, and screening strategies should be formulated according to local conditions to help them play a greater role. A facile method involving the nitrogen modification of PtCu aerogel surfaces with N-methyl pyrrolidone as the sole nitrogen source is reported. The half wave potential (E1/2) of the PtCu aerogels was 0.932 V and the electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) was 102.04 m2 g−1 for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), and the mass activity (MA) for the methanol electrooxidation reaction (MOR) was measured to be 4.08 A mg−1, values better than those of a commercial Pt/C catalyst and other reported Pt-based catalysts. Objective: The aim of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes and quality of life following percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) and microscope‐assisted tubular discectomy (MTD) for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: This study had a retrospective design. From June 2017 to June 2018, the clinical data of 120 patients with LDH treated with PTED (60 cases, PTED group) and MTD (60 cases, MTD group) were analyzed and followed up for at least 20 months. There were 59 men and 61 women. Patients were aged between 22 and 80 years. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, incision length, frequency of intraoperative fluoroscopy, cost, hospital stay, types of herniated discs, complications, and clinical outcomes were evaluated. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS), the Oswestry disability index (ODI), and the modified Macnab criteria. Short‐Form 36 (SF‐36) and the EQ‐5D‐5L were used to evaluate the quality of life of patients. The data between the two groups were compared by independent sample t‐tests. Multiple comparisons between samples were analyzed by analysis of variance. Results: Compared with the MTD group, the PTED group had shorter incision length (9.20 ± 1.19 mm vs 26.38 ± 1.82 mm), less intraoperative blood loss (18.00 ± 4.97 mL vs 39.83 ± 6.51 mL), and shorter hospital stay (5.42 ± 5.08 days vs 10.58 ± 3.69 days) (P = 0.00). PTED was much more appropriate for foraminal and extraforaminal disc herniation. The incidence of paresthesia was lower in the PTED group (6.67% vs 16.67%). At each follow up, the VAS and ODI scores of all patients were significantly improved compared with those before surgery (P = 0.00). At 3 days postoperatively, the lumbar VAS score of the PTED group was significantly lower (1.58 ± 1.00 vs 2.37 ± 1.10, P = 0.00). The excellent rate of the PTED group reached 91.67%, and that of the MTD group reached 93.33%. Compared with the preoperative SF‐36 scores for physiological function, mental health, and social function, the postoperative scores were significantly improved in both groups (P = 0.00). The EQ‐5D‐5L in the PTED group increased from 0.30 ± 0.17 before the operation to 0.69 ± 0.13 after 6 months of follow up (P = 0.00) and 0.73 ± 0.14 after 20 months of follow up. The EQ‐5D‐5L in the MTD group increased from 0.28 ± 0.17 before the operation to 0.68 ± 0.13 after a 6‐month follow up (P = 0.00), and 0.73 ± 0.12 after a 20‐month follow up. Conclusion: Although both PTED and MTD are effective for LDH, PTED is much more appropriate for various types of LDH and has the advantages of the low incidence of low back pain, fewer complications, and early recovery. Background: The safety of discontinuing oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy after atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation remains controversial. A meta-analysis was performed to assess the safety and feasibility of discontinuing OAC therapy after successful AF ablation. Methods: PubMed and Embase were searched up to October 2020 for prospective cohort studies that reported the risk of thromboembolism (TE) after successful AF ablation in off-OAC and on-OAC groups. The primary outcome was the incidence of TE events. The Mantel-Haenszel method with random-effects modeling was used to calculate pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: A total of 11,148 patients (7,160 in the off-OAC group and 3,988 in the on-OAC group) from 10 studies were included to meta-analysis. No significant difference in TE between both groups was observed (OR, 0.73; 95%CI, 0.51–1.05; I2 = 0.0%). The risk of major bleeding in off-OAC group was significantly lower compared to the on-OAC group (OR, 0.18; 95%CI, 0.07–0.51; I2 = 51.7%). Conclusions: Our study suggests that it may be safe to discontinue OAC therapy in patients after successful AF ablation. Additionally, an increased risk of major bleeding was observed in patients on OAC. However, the results of this meta-analysis should be interpreted with caution because of the heterogeneity among the included study designs. The behavior of γ–β/β0 phase transition in TiAl alloy doped with β stabilizers (V, Cr, Mn) are studied by using the first principles method. It is found that alloying addition as well as anharmonic lattice vibration and disordered atomic occupation contributes to enhance the stability of cubic structure and accordingly introduce the disordered β phase into the high-temperature microstructure. The formation of low-temperature β0 phase originates from not only the stabilization of cubic structure but also the destabilization of tetragonal structure. In particular, the latter is the main reason for the premature precipitation of the hard-brittle β0 phase in the room-temperature microstructure at low nominal doping concentrations. We also find a special doping region in which the γ and the β phases are stable, while the β0 phase is unstable. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly in China and other overseas areas, which has aroused widespread concern. The sharp increase in the number of patients has led to great psychological pressure on health care workers. The purpose of this study was to understand their mental health status and needs, so as to provide a scientific basis for alleviating the psychological pressure of health care workers. Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, 540 health care workers were randomly selected from two designated tuberculosis medical institutions in Anhui Province. The basic situation, perceived social support, depression level, loneliness and COVID-19 related knowledge were collected and analyzed by questionnaire. Results: A total of 511 valid questionnaires were finally retrieved. There were 139 people in epidemic prevention and control positions (27.20%). Depression level: People in isolation ward, fever clinic and pre-check triage were at the level of mild to moderate depression. Female was higher than male; nurse was higher than doctor; middle and junior job titles were higher than senior titles; junior college degree or below were higher than bachelor's degree, master's degree and above; isolation ward, fever clinic and pre-check triage were significantly higher than those of non-prevention and control positions (p < 0.05). Loneliness scores: Doctors were higher than that of medical technicians, and isolation ward, fever clinic and pre-check triage were higher than those of other medical departments (p < 0.05). Social support: Doctors were lower than that of medical technicians, and isolation ward, fever clinic and pre-check triage were significantly lower than those of other departments (p < 0.05). The score of social support was negatively correlated with depression and loneliness (p < 0.001), while depression was positively correlated with loneliness (p < 0.001). Health care workers most want to receive one-to-one psychological counseling (29.75%), and provide crisis management (24.07%). The awareness rate of health care workers on COVID-19's knowledge was relatively high. Conclusions: The psychological problems of health care workers, especially women, nurses with low educational background, low professional title, and staff in the epidemic prevention and control positions are relatively serious.
