Abstract This study aimed to analyze the complications and long-term survival outcomes in patients who underwent radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, as well as to identify the risk factors associated with postoperative complications. After conducting a comprehensive search within the medical records system, a total of 2508 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy and met the inclusion criteria were enrolled. Of the 2508 patients, 301 were diagnosed with postoperative complications. The pathological data, postoperative recovery, and survival outcome were compared between complication and control group. Subsequently, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identified the risk factors. According to the Clavien-Dindo grading criteria for postoperative complications, the proportions of grade I, II, III, IV, and V complications following radical gastrectomy were observed to be 28.2%, 42.9%, 19.6%, 8.0%, and 1.3%, respectively. The presence of postoperative complications significantly prolonged the duration of gastrointestinal decompression (P 65years [odds ratio (OR) = 1.378, P = 0.020], presence of diabetes (OR = 2.042, P 215 min (OR = 1.450, P = 0.006), intraoperative blood loss > 275 ml (OR = 1.474, P = 0.004), and Roux-en-Y anastomosis for both whole stomach (OR = 1.567, P = 0.021) and distal gastric cancer (OR = 2.083, P = 0.003) were identified as independent risk factors for postoperative complications. This study analyzed the complications and survival outcomes following radical gastrectomy, and investigated the predictors for postoperative complications, thereby providing valuable guidance on the prevention and management of surgical complications in gastric cancer.

Abstract Cognitive impairment is a core symptom of schizophrenia (SZ), with GABAergic dysfunction in the brain potentially serving as a critical pathological mechanism underlying this condition. Intracortical inhibition (ICI), which includes short-interval intracortical inhibition (SICI) and long-interval intracortical inhibition (LICI), can be used to assess the inhibitory function of cortical GABAergic neurons. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ICI and cognitive function, as well as psychopathological symptoms, in SZ patients. We recruited 130 SZ patients and 105 healthy controls (HCs). All subjects underwent paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation (ppTMS) measurements, which included resting motor threshold (RMT), SICI and LICI. The cognitive function of all subjects was assessed using the Measurement and Treatment Research to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia (MATRICS) Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB). The psychopathological symptoms of the SZ group were assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). We examined group differences in MCCB scores, RMT, SICI, and LICI. Within the SZ group, we assessed the relationship between ICI and cognitive function, as well as psychopathological symptoms. Abstract Camellia oleifera, a significant woody edible oil species, was examined using 48 germplasm resources from high-altitude regions in East Guizhou Province, China, to analyze fruit quality. The analysis aimed to identify high-performance germplasm, providing theoretical and research foundations for selecting and cross-breeding superior C. oleifera varieties in these regions. Fifteen primary traits of mature fruits were measured and analyzed, including four phenotypic traits (single fruit weight, transverse diameter, longitudinal diameter, peel thickness) and eleven quality traits (fresh seed yield rate, dry seed yield rate, dry kernel yield rate, seed kernel oil content, palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, α-linolenic acid, cis-11-eicosenoic acid). A comprehensive evaluation employing cluster and principal component analyses (PCA) was conducted. The cluster analysis categorized the germplasms into five groups at a squared Euclidean distance of 14, with the first category comprising 17 germplasms, the second 28, and the third, fourth, and fifth each containing one. PCA reduced the 15 traits to five principal components (PCs), with PC1 having the highest eigenvalue of 3.57 and a contribution rate of 23.8%, mainly representing phenotypic traits. PC2, contributing 20.44%, represented linoleic acid, while PC3, PC4, and PC5, with contribution rates of 12.99%, 9.13%, and 7.45% respectively, predominantly represented seed kernel oil content, fresh seed yield, and palmitoleic acid. Employing a weighted sum method, a comprehensive evaluation function was developed to calculate total scores for each superior individual, forming the basis for rankings and selections. Notable variability was detected in single fruit weight, peel thickness, and fresh and dry seed yields, while oleic acid exhibited the lowest coefficient of variation. Dry seed yield showed a robust positive correlation with seed kernel oil content and the concentrations of palmitic and linoleic acids, whereas seed kernel oil content was inversely correlated with cis-11-eicosenoic acid levels. Five PCs with eigenvalues > 1 were identified, highlighting the top ten superior individuals: QD (Qian Dong: the code of eastern Guizhou Province)-33 > QD-34 > QD-48 > QD-38 > QD-27 > QD-15 > QD-35 > QD-5 > QD-14 > QD-36. Thus, the 48 C. oleifera germplasms from East Guizhou’s high-altitude areas demonstrate significant potential for enhancing traits such as single fruit weight, peel thickness, and fresh and dry seed yields. Specifically, QD-33, QD-34, and QD-48 exhibited superior comprehensive performance, designating them as prime candidates for variety selection and breeding.

In order to evaluate miners’ emergency ability reasonably, the evaluation model of miners’ emergency ability maturity was established. Firstly, based on the information processing model of miners’ emergency ability, the information processing process and psychological mechanism of miners’ danger information perception, danger information processing, choice, judgment and decision, and operation response were analyzed, and then the evaluation index system of miners’ emergency ability was constructed. Secondly, the maturity level and basic characteristics of miners’ emergency ability evaluation are determined, and the membership function value of miners’ emergency ability maturity is represented by mutation series method. Finally, the model is applied to a coal mine in Shaanxi Province. The results show that the workers of the coal mining team are weak in the aspects of situational awareness, connection ability and decision-making ability, which should be further cultivated and improved. The evaluation result of this model can reflect the real level and weak link of miners’ emergency ability, and can provide management basis for improving miners’ emergency ability.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor that arises from hepatocytes. Multiple signaling pathways play a regulatory role in the occurrence and development of HCC, with the Wnt signaling pathway being one of the primary regulatory pathways. In normal hepatocytes, the Wnt signaling pathway maintains cell regeneration and organ development. However, when aberrant activated, the Wnt pathway is closely associated with invasion, cancer stem cells(CSCs), drug resistance, and immune evasion in HCC. Among these factors, the development of drug resistance is one of the most important factors affecting the efficacy of HCC treatment. These mechanisms form the basis for tumor cell adaptation and evolution within the body, enabling continuous changes in tumor cells, resistance to drugs and immune system attacks, leading to metastasis and recurrence. In recent years, there have been numerous new discoveries regarding these mechanisms. An increasing number of drugs targeting the Wnt signaling pathway have been developed, with some already entering clinical trials. Therefore, this review encompasses the latest research on the role of the Wnt signaling pathway in the onset and progression of HCC, as well as advancements in its therapeutic strategies.

FK506-binding protein 9 (FKBP9) is involved in tumor malignancy by resistance to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and the up-regulation of FKBP9 is associated with patients' poor prognosis. The current knowledge of the molecular mechanisms is still limited. One previous study showed that FKBP9 could confer glioblastoma cell resistance to ER stress through ASK1-p38 signaling. However, the upstream regulatory mechanism of FKBP9 expression is still indistinct. In this study, we identified the FKBP9 binding proteins using co-immunoprecipitation followed by mass spectrometry. Results showed that FKBP9 interacted with the binding immunoglobulin protein (BiP). BiP bound directly to FKBP9 with high affinity. BiP prolonged the half-life of the FKBP9 protein and stabilized the FKBP9 protein. BiP and FKBP9 protein levels were positively correlated in patients with glioma, and patients with high expression of BiP and FKBP9 showed a worse prognosis. Further studies showed that FKBP9 knockout in genetically engineered mice inhibited intracranial glioblastoma formation and prolonged survival by decreasing cellular proliferation and ER stress-induced CHOP-related apoptosis. Moreover, normal cells may depend less on FKBP9, as shown by the absence of apoptosis upon FKBP9 knockdown in a non-transformed human cell line and overall normal development in homozygous knockout mice. These findings suggest an important role of BiP-regulated FKBP9-associated signaling in glioma progression and the BiP–FKBP9 axis may be a potential therapeutic target for glioma.

Abstract Background Ovarian cancer (OC) is characterized by its rapid growth and spread which, accompanied by a low 5-year survival rate, necessitates the development of improved treatments. In ovarian cancer, the selective overexpression of Mucin-16 (MUC16, CA125) in tumor cells highlights its potential as a promising target for developing anti-tumor therapies. However, the potential effectiveness of CAR-T cell therapy that targets MUC16 in ovarian cancer cells is unknown. Methods The expression of MUC16 in viable OC cells was detected using immunofluorescence and flow cytometry techniques. A MSLN-CAR construct, comprising the MUC16-binding polypeptide region of mesothelin (MSLN), a CD8 hinge spacer and transmembrane domain, 4-1BB, and CD3ζ endo-domains; was synthesized and introduced into T cells using lentiviral particles. The cytotoxicity of the resultant CAR-T cells was evaluated in vitro using luciferase assays. Cytokine release by CAR-T cells was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. The anti-tumor efficacy of the CAR-T cells was subsequently assessed in mice through both systemic and local administration protocols. Results MSLN-CAR T cells exhibited potent cytotoxicity towards OVCAR3 cells and their stem-like cells that express high levels of MUC16. Also, MSLN-CAR T cells were inefficient at killing SKOV3 cells that express low levels of MUC16, but were potently cytotoxic to such cells overexpressing MUC16. Moreover, MSLN-CAR T cells delivered via tail vein or peritoneal injection could shrink OVCAR3 xenograft tumors in vivo, with sustained remission observed following peritoneal delivery of MSLN-CAR T cells. Conclusions Collectively, these results suggested that MSLN-CAR T cells could potently eliminate MUC16- positive ovarian cancer tumor cells both in vitro and in vivo, thereby providing a promising therapeutic intervention for MUC16-positive patients.

Abstract Close correlation between vitamin D (VitD) deficiency and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) risk, VitD as an adjuvant treatment promising to improve PD progression. However, VitD excessive intake could induce hypercalcemia and renal damage. Therefore, upregulation of vitD receptor (VDR) is considered a compensatory strategy to overcome VitD insufficiency and alleviate PD symptoms. In this study, we discovered that VDR played antioxidative roles in dopaminergic neurons by decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and maintaining mitochondrial membrane potential. Further, we newly identified VDR downstream events in C. elegans, including glutathione S-transferase (gst) and forkhead box transcription factor class O (daf-16) mediated oxidative stress resistance. VDR upregulation also mitigated microglial activation through inhibition of NLRP3/caspase-1-mediated inflammation and membrane permeabilization. These findings highlight the multifaceted protective effects of VDR in both neurons and microglia against the development of PD. Importantly, we discovered a novel deubiquitinase DUB3, whose N-terminal catalytic domain interacted with the C-terminal ligand-binding domain of VDR to reduce VDR ubiquitination. Identification of DUB3 as an essential player in the deubiquitinating mechanism of VDR provides valuable insights into VDR regulation and its potential as a therapeutic target for PD.

Abstract Background To investigate clinical characteristics, prognoses, and impacts of treatments on prognoses of neuroblastoma patients with bone or liver metastasis. Methods This retrospective cohort study extracted data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database 2010–2019. The outcomes were 3-year cancer-specific survival (CSS) and 5-year CSS. Multivariable COX risk proportional models were established to assess the association between metastasis types and CSS. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated. Results Totally 425 patients with metastatic neuroblastoma were eligible for 3-year CSS analysis and 320 for 5-year CSS analysis. For 3-year follow-up, 62 (14.59%) patients had liver metastasis alone, 289 (0.68%) had bone metastasis alone, and 74 (17.41%) had both liver and bone metastasis. For 5-year follow-up, 44 (13.75%) patients had liver metastasis alone, 223 (69.69%) had bone metastasis alone, and 53 (16.56%) had both liver and bone metastasis. ABSTRACTThis study examines the impact of temperature and humidity on cotton fiber quality during initial processing. Conducted in a Xinjiang cotton ginning mill, we used the USTER HVI1000 to analyze five quality indices: upper half mean length, uniformity, short fiber index, tensile strength, and elongation. Results indicated that temperatures below 13°C increased fiber brittleness, moisture, and significantly reduced length and strength. Optimal conditions were observed at temperatures between 13°C to 20°C with normal humidity, where length and strength were maintained. Above 20°C, the dry environment led to a decrease in these indices. While higher temperatures and lower humidity helped remove impurities and lessen cotton knots, relative humidity below 45% increased static electricity and knots. Despite data limitations, this study moves towards identifying optimal temperature and humidity levels for improving cotton quality during initial processing, providing a theoretical foundation for future enhancements.

Among primary liver cancers, hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common pathological type. Its onset is insidious, and most patients have no obvious discomfort in the early stage, so it is found late, and the opportunity for surgical radical treatment is lost, resulting in a poor prognosis. With the introduction of molecular-targeted drugs represented by sorafenib, patients with middle- and late-stage liver cancer have regained the light of day. However, their therapeutic efficacy is relatively low due to the limited target of drug action, toxic side effects, and other reasons. At this time, the emergence of immunotherapy represented by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) well breaks this embarrassing situation, which mainly achieves the anti-tumor purpose by improving the tumor immune microenvironment. Currently, ICI monotherapy, as well as combination therapy, has been widely used in the clinic, further prolonging the survival of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. This article reviews the development of monotherapy and combination therapy for ICIs in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and the latest research progress.

Surgical removal of the tonsils and adenoids, important immune organs, is a frequent and recurrent class of surgery, and currently, there is no consensus on the effects these surgical procedures may have on the immune system. Here, we examine individual studies on tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and adenotonsillectomy, discuss their postoperative humoral and cellular immune changes, and explore their effects on the incidence of related diseases. There is evidence that these three surgeries have no negative effects on humoral immunity; however, there has been contrary results. Furthermore, these procedures seem to have no significant effects on cellular immunity, although tonsil and adenoid removal can cause an increased incidence of certain illnesses, especially infectious diseases. Based on this comprehensive review, we conclude that the removal of tonsils and adenoids does not negatively affect cellular and humoral immunity. However, surgery may lead to an increased incidence of related infectious diseases. This finding may inform the surgeon's decision to perform the procedure in a clinical setting.

Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion is a prevalent pathological process that can result in intestinal dysfunction, bacterial translocation, energy metabolism disturbances, and subsequent harm to distal tissues and organs via the circulatory system. Acute lung injury frequently arises as a complication of intestinal ischemia/reperfusion, exhibiting early onset and a grim prognosis. Without appropriate preventative measures and efficacious interventions, this condition may progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome and elevate mortality rates. Nonetheless, the precise mechanisms and efficacious treatments remain elusive. This paper synthesizes recent research models and pertinent injury evaluation criteria within the realm of acute lung injury induced by intestinal ischemia/reperfusion. The objective is to investigate the roles of pathophysiological mechanisms like oxidative stress, inflammatory response, apoptosis, ferroptosis, and pyroptosis; and to assess the strengths and limitations of current therapeutic approaches for acute lung injury stemming from intestinal ischemia/reperfusion. The goal is to elucidate potential targets for enhancing recovery rates, identify suitable treatment modalities, and offer insights for translating fundamental research into clinical applications.

Abstract Background Relevant reports on the surgical resection and prognosis of recurrent presacral tumors are limited. The objective of this study was to explore the outcomes associated with surgical resection of recurrent presacral tumors. Methods The data of patients with recurrent presacral tumors who received surgical resection in our hospital between June 2009 and November 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Thirty-one patients, comprising 22 females and 9 males, with recurrent presacral lesions were included in our study. A posterior approach was utilized in 27 patients, an anterior approach in 1 patient, and a combined approach in 3 patients. Intraoperative complications occurred in 13 patients (41.9%), while postoperative complications occurred in 6 patients (19.4%). The length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in patients who underwent the posterior approach compared to those who underwent the anterior and combined approaches (P = 0.002). The operative time for the posterior approach was significantly shorter compared to both the anterior and combined approaches (P = 0.006). Temporary tamponade was performed for hemostasis in 4 patients, while staged resection was performed in 2 patients during the surgical treatment process. After a median follow-up period of 115.5 months, 5 patients with recurrent malignant presacral tumors succumbed to tumor recurrence after reoperation in our hospital. Conclusions Surgical resection remains the mainstream treatment for recurrent presacral tumors. The outcomes for recurrent benign presacral tumors after surgery demonstrate favorable results, whereas further enhancements are required to improve the outcomes for recurrent malignant presacral tumors after surgery.

Abstract Background The short-term (≤ 1 year) recurrence (STR) is the primary determinant impacting both the life quality and survival duration in patients who have undergone surgical resection for retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS), a condition with intricate and ambiguous pathogenesis. The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factors associated with STR in cases of RPLS and primary retroperitoneal liposarcoma (PRPLS). Methods For this retrospective observational study, a total of 296 RPLS cases were selected as research subjects, who experienced tumor recurrence during the follow-up period. The Local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) rates were estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method and subsequently compared between groups utilizing the log-rank test. The subsequent analyses involved univariate and multivariate logistic regression to identify predictors of STR in RPLS cases. Additionally, a logistic regression model was constructed for PRPLS. Results The 1-, 3-, and 5-year LRFS rates of the 296 RPLS cases were 51.7%, 16.9%, and 7.1%, respectively. In the univariate analysis, several factors were found to be associated with STR, including preoperative neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), smoking history, surgical frequency, combined organ excision, operative time, intraoperative bleeding, transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU), multiple primary tumors, tumor shape and capsule characteristics, histological subtype, and presence of tumor necrosis. The elevated preoperative NLR, surgical frequency of ≥ 3 times, transfer to the ICU, presence of multiple primary tumors, and tumor necrosis were identified as independent risk factors for STR in surgically resected RPLS. Conversely, diabetes, intact tumor capsule, and well-differentiated histological subtype appeared to be independent protective factors. Analysis for PRPLS revealed that tumor capsule and tumor necrosis were independent predictors of STR. Conclusions The elevated preoperative NLR, surgical frequency of ≥ 3 times, transfer to the ICU, presence of multiple primary tumors, tumor necrosis, and tumor capsule were expected to serve as predictive factors of STR for surgical resected RPLS and PRPLS.

With the rising adoption of renewable energy sources worldwide, the uncertainty within electrical power systems is amplifying, leading to rising challenges in wind power assimilation and operational costs. In addressing these pressing issues, this research emphasizes a sophisticated modeling technique for the energy-intensive electro-fused magnesium loads on demand. Furthermore, we introduce a coordinated scheduling approach for power systems, harnessing the regulatory capabilities of these loads. Initially, an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the electro-fused magnesium energy-intensive load is carried out, from which a refined model is developed. Subsequently, considering the flexible regulatory potential of the electro-fused magnesium furnace apparatus, a bi-level optimization scheduling model is crafted, prioritizing the maximization of wind power absorption at the upper level and minimizing system operational costs at the lower level. The efficacy and rationale of the proposed methodology are corroborated through computational analyses.

Abstract Plants play an important role in interactions between insect herbivores and their pathogens. The ability of host plants to modify the infectivity of entomopathogens in herbivorous insects has been widely documented. However, the plants’ nutrients have always been neglected as a factor contributing to variation in the susceptibility of insect herbivores to entomopathogens. The fall-webworm (FWW), Hyphantria cunea Drury, is a typical polyphagous caterpillar, and the Hyphantria cunea nucleopolyhedrovirus (HycuNPV) is a distinctly specialized baculovirus for the FWW, which is safe for other organisms and has been effectively used as a biological insecticide against H. cunea in China. In this study, we investigated the nutrient components of four host plant species, i.e., Prunus serrulate, Cerasus serrulate, Camptotheca acuminata, and Populus deltoides, and their effects on the susceptibility of H. cunea larvae to HycuNPV. The HycuNPV-infected larvae fed on P. deltoides leaves exhibited higher survival rates, longer survival times, more food intake, and gained larger body size. These biological parameters were positively correlated with the nitrogen components of host plant leaves. Moreover, the larval antioxidant enzymes exhibited different responses to HycuNPV. HycuNPV infection significantly triggered the catalase (CAT) and prophenoloxidase (PPO) enzyme activity levels of H. cunea larvae. The uninfected larvae fed on poplar leaves induced a robust increase in the POD activity, which could scavenge extra reactive oxygen species and provide a protective effect against the HycuNPV. In conclusion, the plant-mediated effects of HycuNPV on the FWW have been investigated in this study. The nitrogen content in dietary was an essential factor in determining the insect herbivore susceptibility to entomopathogenic viruses, and it helped explain variations in the susceptibility of pests to the entomopathogenic viruses and aid in developing more robust tolerance monitoring assays in the lab that reflect the performance of pests in the field. This research paper investigates a novel triangular honeycomb thermochemical energy storage reactor for low- and medium-temperature applications in buildings, emphasizing its potential to enhance sustainable heating. Using a validated 3D numerical model, the reactor’s performance is analyzed in depth across various configurations, focusing on key parameters such as energy storage density, pressure drop, internal air flow distribution, and round-trip efficiency. Results show that the reactor achieved an energy storage density of 872 kJ/kg and a round-trip thermal efficiency of 41.51% under optimal conditions. Additionally, the triangular honeycomb reactor (30°, 60, and 90°) configuration achieved the highest temperature lift of 48.7 °C. In a feasibility analysis for residential heating in northern China, the reactor with 30°, 60°, and 90° angles required 24.91% less volume to meet daily heating demands compared to other configurations. This study contributes valuable insights for the development of efficient, low-carbon heating solutions for low- and medium-temperature applications in buildings, offering interesting advancements in the field of thermochemical energy storage technology.

Phagocytosis is the process by which certain cells or organelles internalise foreign substances by engulfing them and then digesting or disposing of them. Microglia are the main resident phagocytic cells in the brain. It is generally believed that microglia/macrophages play a role in guiding the brain's repair and functional recovery processes. However, the resident and invading immune cells of the central nervous system can also exacerbate tissue damage by stimulating inflammation and engulfing viable neurons. The functional consequences of microglial phagocytosis remain largely unexplored. Overall, phagocytosis is considered a beneficial phenomenon in acute brain injury because it eliminates dead cells and induces an anti-inflammatory response. Osteopontin (OPN) is a phosphorylated glycoprotein induced by injury in various tissues, including brain tissue. In acute brain injuries such as hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic stroke, OPN is generally believed to have anti-inflammatory effects. OPN can promote the reconstruction of the blood-brain barrier and up-regulate the scavenger receptor CD36. But in chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), OPN can cause microglia to engulf neurons and worsen disease progression. We explored the role of OPN in promoting microglial phagocytosis in nervous system disorders.

ObjectiveNon-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) has become a common clinical problem that severely threatens the mental and physical health of Chinese adolescents. This study explores the mediation effects of NSSI functions on the relationship between anxiety and NSSI frequency among depressed Chinese adolescents as well as the sex differences in the mediating effects.MethodsIn this study, a cross-sectional survey method was used to obtain data of 1773 adolescent patients with major depressive disorders from over 20 specialized psychiatric hospitals across multiple provinces in China. A self-designed questionnaire for demographic information, the Chinese version of Functional Assessment of Self- Mutilation (C-FASM), and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) were employed to investigate demographic data, NSSI frequency, NSSI functions, and anxiety and to analyze the mediating effects of NSSI functions on the association between anxiety and NSSI frequency among adolescents of different sexes.ResultsA total of 316 male patients and 1457 female patients were investigated. Female patients had a higher NSSI frequency (Z=3.195, P=0.001) and higher anxiety scores than did male patients (Z=2.714, P=0.007). Anxiety had a stronger positive predictive effect on the NSSI frequency in females (OR = 1.090) than in males (OR = 1.064). For male patients, the emotion regulation function in NSSI motivation played a full mediating role in the association between anxiety and NSSI frequency. For female patients, the emotion regulation and social avoidance functions in NSSI functions played a partial mediating role between anxiety and NSSI frequency.ConclusionsThere are sex differences in the mediating role of NSSI functions of depressed adolescents in the association between anxiety and NSSI frequency. When experiencing anxiety, both males and females may engage in NSSI behaviors as a means to regulate their emotions. For females, anxiety can directly predict NSSI frequency, and they may attempt NSSI to achieve the purpose of rejecting others. In the face of anxiety among depressed adolescents of different sexes, developing different emotional regulation methods and behavioral regulation strategies may be critical in preventing their NSSI behaviors.

BackgroundNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which includes simple steatosis (SS) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a significant contributor to liver disease on a global scale. The change of immunity-related genes (IRGs) expression level leads to different immune infiltrations. However, the expression of IRGs and possible regulatory mechanisms involved in NAFLD remain unclear. The objective of our research is to investigate crucial genes linked to the development of NAFLD and the transition from SS to NASH.MethodsDataset GSE89632, which includes healthy controls, SS patients, and NASH patients, was obtained using the GEO database. To examine the correlation between sets of genes and clinical characteristics, we employed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and differential expression analysis. Hub genes were extracted using a network of protein-protein interactions (PPI) and three different machine learning algorithms. To validate the findings, another dataset that is publicly accessible and mice that were subjected to a high-fat diet (HFD) or MCD diet were utilized. Furthermore, the ESTIMATE algorithm and ssGSEA were employed to investigate the immune landscape in the normal versus SS group and SS versus NASH group, additionally, the relationship between immune infiltration and the expression of hub genes was also examined.ResultsA total of 28 immune related key genes were selected. Most of these genes expressed reverse patterns in the initial and progressive stages of NAFLD. GO and KEGG analyses showed that they were focused on the cytokine related pathways and immune cell activation and chemotaxis. After screening by various algorithms, we obtained two hub genes, including JUN and CCL20. Validation of these findings was confirmed by analyzing gene expression patterns in both the validation dataset and the mouse model. Ultimately, two hub genes were discovered to have a significant correlation with the infiltration of immune cells.ConclusionWe proposed that there were dynamic changes in the expression levels of IRGs in different stages of NAFLD disease, which led to different immune landscapes in SS and NASH. The findings of our research could serve as a guide for the accurate management of various phases of NAFLD.

Abstract Background LncRNAs have been shown to be involved in and control the biological processes of multiple diseases, including preeclampsia (PE). The impairment of trophoblast cell proliferation is recognized as a significant anomaly contributing to the development of PE. LncRNA FEZF1-AS1 was found downregulated in placental tissues of PE patients. However, the precise regulatory mechanism of FEZF1-AS1 in placental trophoblast proliferation and apoptosis remains unclear. Results In this study, we conducted an investigation into the expression levels of FEZF1-AS1 and NOC2L in placental tissues obtained from patients diagnosed with PE. Subsequently, we employed CCK-8 and EdU assays to quantify cell proliferation, while TUNEL staining and western blot for apoptosis-related protein detection to assess apoptosis. Furthermore, the interactions between FEZF1-AS1 and ELAVL1, as well as NOC2L and ELAVL1, were confirmed through the implementation of RIP and RNA pull-down assays. We found a downregulation of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 and NOC2L in placental tissues of PE patients. Overexpression of FEZF1-AS1 or NOC2L resulted in increased cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis, whereas knockdown of FEZF1-AS1 or NOC2L had the opposite effect. In addition, lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 stabilized NOC2L mRNA expression by interacting with ELAVL1. Moreover, partial reversal of the effects of FEZF1-AS1 overexpression on cell proliferation and apoptosis was observed upon suppression of ELAVL1 or NOC2L. Conclusions PE related lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 could regulate apoptosis and proliferation of placental trophoblast cells through the ELAVL1/NOC2L axis.

Abstract Background The psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been understudied among vulnerable populations. This study aimed to examine the immediate and longer-term changes in the mental health of children with parent–child separation experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, and identify potential buffering opportunities for mental health. Methods This longitudinal cohort study used data from 723 rural Chinese children who provided data before (Oct. 2019) the COVID-19 pandemic and during the following 2 years. Changes in the probability of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, non-suicide self-injurious (NSSI), suicidal ideation, suicide plan, and suicide attempt were tested across four waves using generalized estimating models (GEE). Results Compared with children who never experienced parent–child separation, children persistently separated from parents since birth experienced greater deterioration in all mental health in the 2-year follow-up (average change: depressive symptoms: β = 0.59, 95% CI [0.26, 0.93]; anxiety symptoms: β = 0.45, 95% CI [0.10, 0.81]; NSSI: β = 0.66, 95% CI [0.31, 1.01]; suicide ideation: β = 0.67, 95% CI [0.38, 0.96]; suicide plan: β = 0.77, 95% CI [0.38, 1.15]; suicide attempt: β = 1.12, 95% CI [0.63, 1.62]). However, children with childhood separation from their parents but reunited with them during the transition to adolescence showed similar even lower changes to counterparts who never experienced parent–child separation (all ps > 0.05). Conclusion These results indicating improvements in supportiveness of the caregiving environment during the transition to adolescence may provide the opportunity to buffer the adverse impact of COVID-19 on mental health. Translating such knowledge to inform intervention and prevention strategies for youths exposed to adversity is a critical goal for the field.

Abstract This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) on the quality of life (QOL) and mental health (MH) of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVDs). Web of Science, Medline, Embase, Cochrane (CENTRAL), CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, and China Science and Technology Journal databases were searched from their date of establishment to July, 2023. A total of 5798 articles were screened, of which 25 were included according to the eligibility criteria. The weighted mean difference (WMD) and standardized mean difference (SMD) were used to analyze data from the same and different indicator categories, respectively. The fixed-effects model (FE) or random-effects model (RE) combined data based on the between-study heterogeneity. There were no statistically significant differences regarding QOL, physical component summary (PCS), mental component summary (MCS), and MH, including depression and anxiety levels, between the HIIT and MICT groups [SMD = 0.21, 95% confidence interval (CI) − 0.18–0.61, Z = 1.06, P = 0.290; SMD = 0.10, 95% CI − 0.03–0.23, Z = 1.52, P = 0.128; SMD = 0.07, 95% CI − 0.05–0.20, Z = 1.13, P = 0.25; SMD = − 0.08, 95% CI − 0.40–0.25, Z = − 0.46, P = 0.646; WMD = 0.14. 95% CI − 0.56–0.84, Z = 0.39, P = 0.694, respectively]. HIIT significantly improved PCS in the coronary artery disease (CAD) population subgroup relative to MICT. HIIT was also significantly superior to MICT for physical role, vitality, and social function. We conclude that HIIT and MICT have similar effects on QOL and MH in patients with CVD, while HIIT is favorable for improving patients’ self-perceived physiological functioning based on their status and social adjustment, and this effect is more significant in patients with CAD.

Abstract Background The receptor tyrosine kinases TAM family (TYRO3, AXL, and MERTK) are highly expressed in multiple forms of cancer cells and tumor-associated macrophages and promote the development of cancers including pancreatic tumor. Targeting TAM receptors could be a promising therapeutic option. Methods We designed a novel CAR based on the extracellular domain of growth arrest-specific protein 6 (GAS6), a natural ligand for all TAM members. The ability of CAR-T to kill pancreatic cancer cells is tested in vitro and in vivo, and the safety is evaluated in mice and nonhuman primate. Results GAS6-CAR-T cells efficiently kill TAM-positive pancreatic cancer cell lines, gemcitabine-resistant cancer cells, and cancer stem-like cells in vitro. GAS6-CAR-T cells also significantly suppressed the growth of PANC1 xenografts and patient-derived xenografts in mice. Furthermore, these CAR-T cells did not induce obvious side effects in nonhuman primate or mice although the CAR was demonstrated to recognize mouse TAM. Conclusions Our findings indicate that GAS6-CAR-T-cell therapy may be effective for pancreatic cancers with low toxicity.

Abstract Background Glioblastoma (GBM) is recognized as among the most aggressive forms of brain tumor. Patients typically present with a five-year survival rate of less than 6% with traditional surgery and chemoradiotherapy, which calls for novel immunotherapies like chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cells therapy. In response to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in multiple tumor cells including GBM, the glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) expression increases and the protein is partially translocated to the cell surface, while it is restricted to the cytoplasm and the nucleus in normal cells. Methods In this study, to target the cell surface GRP78 (csGRP78), CAR-T cells based on its binding peptide were generated. In vitro two GBM cell lines and glioma stem cells (GSCs) were used to confirm the localization of csGRP78 and the cytotoxicity of the CAR-T cells. In vivo a GBM xenograft model was used to assess the killing activity and the safety of the CAR-T cells. Results We confirmed the localization of csGRP78 at the cell surface of two GBM cell lines (U-251MG and U-87MG) and in GSCs. Co-culture experiments revealed that the CAR-T cells could specifically kill the GBM tumor cells and GSCs with specific IFN-γ release. Furthermore, in the tumor xenograft model, the CAR-T cells could decrease the number of GSCs and significantly suppress tumor cell growth. Importantly, we found no obvious off-target effects or T cell infiltration in major organs following systemic administration of these cells. Conclusions The csGRP78 targeted CAR-T cells efficiently kill GBM tumor cells and GSCs both in vitro and in vivo, and ultimately suppress the xenograft tumors growth without obvious tissue injuries. Therefore, our study demonstrates that csGRP78 represents a valuable target and the csGRP78-targeted CAR-T cells strategy is an effective immunotherapy against GBM.

Abstract A more effective and better-tolerated site for repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for treating cognitive dysfunction in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) is needed. The primary visual cortex (V1) may represent a suitable site. To investigate the use of the V1, which is functionally linked to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), as a potential site for improving cognitive function in BD. Seed-based functional connectivity (FC) analysis was used to locate targets in the V1 that had significant FC with the DLPFC and ACC. Subjects were randomly assigned to 4 groups, namely, the DLPFC active-sham rTMS (A1), DLPFC sham-active rTMS (A2), ACC active-sham rTMS (B1), and ACC sham-active rTMS groups (B2). The intervention included the rTMS treatment once daily, with five treatments a week for four weeks. The A1 and B1 groups received 10 days of active rTMS treatment followed by 10 days of sham rTMS treatment. The A2 and B2 groups received the opposite. The primary outcomes were changes in the scores of five tests in the THINC-integrated tool (THINC-it) at week 2 (W2) and week 4 (W4). The secondary outcomes were changes in the FC between the DLPFC/ACC and the whole brain at W2 and W4. Of the original 93 patients with BD recruited, 86 were finally included, and 73 finished the trial. Significant interactions between time and intervention type (Active/Sham) were observed in the scores of the accuracy of the Symbol Check in the THINC-it tests at baseline (W0) and W2 in groups B1 and B2 (F = 4.736, p = 0.037) using a repeated-measures analysis of covariance approach. IntroductionCerebro spinal fluid (CSF) leakage is common and might lead to severe postoperative complications after endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary adenoma resection. However, the risk factors of postoperative CSF leakage are still controversial. This article presents a systematic review to explore the explicit risk factors of CSF leakage after endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary adenomere section.MethodsPRISMA and AMSTAR guidelines were followed to assess the methodological quality of the systematic review. PubMed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, Clinical Trails, CNKI, CBM, Wan Fang, and VIP databases were searched for all studies on postoperative CSF leak risk factors. The quality of the included studies was assessed by the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Review Manager 5.4 software was used to calculate the pooled effect size of potential factors with statistical significance.ResultsA total of 6775 patients with pituitary adenoma across 18 articles were included, containing 482 cases of postoperative CSF leakage (accounting for 7.11%). All of the articles had a quality score > 5, indicating good quality. Meta-analysis showed that an increased risk of CSF leak was found for higher levels of BMI (MD=1.91, 95% CI (0.86,2.96), bigger tumor size [OR=4.93, 95% CI (1.41,17.26)], greater tumor invasion (OR=3.01, 95% CI (1.71, 5.31), the harder texture of tumor [OR=2.65, 95% CI (1.95,3.62)], intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid leakage [OR=5.61, 95% CI (3.53,8.90)], multiple operations [OR=2.27, 95% CI (1.60,3.23)].ConclusionBMI, multiple operations, tumor size, tumor invasion, hard texture, and intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid leakage are the risk factors of postoperative CSF leakage. Clinical doctors should pay attention to these risk factors, and conduct strict skull base reconstruction and careful postoperative management.

Abstract The anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) has great potential in deciphering weakly deformed fabrics that may be related to tectonic stress. Previous studies have suggested that magnetic lineation is a good indicator of paleostrain direction. It is unclear whether the magnetic fabric can also be used to indicate the present‐day strain field. To verify this idea, we measured the AMS of freshly consolidated lacustrine fine‐grained sediments at 11 locations in the Qaidam and Chaka‐Gonghe basins of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau and compared it with the present‐day strain field deduced from the global position system (GPS) velocity field. The magnetic lineations of both room‐temperature and low‐temperature AMS are roughly perpendicular to the GPS‐derived tectonic shortening direction within the error range, suggesting that the AMS of freshly consolidated muds is an effective indicator of the present‐day strain field, even if the sediments appear undeformed at the outcrop scale.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal solid malignancy with limited treatment options. Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy has been successfully applied to treat hematological malignancies, but faces many challenges in solid tumors. One major challenge is the shortage of tumor-selective targets. Cell surface GRP78 (csGRP78) is highly expressed on various solid cancer cells including pancreatic cancer, but not normal cells, providing a potential target for CAR-T cell therapy in pancreatic cancer. Here, we demonstrated that csGRP78-directed CAR-T (GRP78-CAR-T) cells effectively killed the human pancreatic cancer cell lines Bxpc-3-luc, Aspc-1-luc and MIA PaCa-2-luc, and pancreatic cancer stem-like cells derived from Aspc-1-luc cells and MIA PaCa-2-luc cells in vitro by a luciferase-based cytotoxicity assay. Importantly, we showed that GRP78-CAR-T cells efficiently homed to and infiltrated Aspc-1-luc cell-derived xenografts and significantly inhibited pancreatic tumor growth in vivo by performing mouse xenograft experiments. Interestingly, we found that gemcitabine treatment increased csGRP78 expression in gemcitabine-resistant MIA PaCa-2-luc cells, and the coapplication of gemcitabine with GRP78-CAR-T cells led to a robust cytotoxic effect on these cells in vitro. Taken together, our study demonstrates that csGRP78-directed CAR-T cells, alone or in combination with chemotherapy, selectively and efficiently target csGRP78-expressing pancreatic cancer cells to suppress pancreatic tumor growth.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Over-activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) was proven to be involved in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. However, its regulation mechanism is not clear yet. This paper explored the role of WD repeat domain 5 (WDR5) in the development of late-onset preeclampsia and its relationship with NF-κB. Methods: WDR5 expression was detected in normal placentas and placentas from late-onset preeclampsia patients. CCK-8 and colony formation assays were conducted to appraise the proliferative ability of trophoblast. Migration and invasion were observed by wound healing and transwell assays. The interaction between WDR5 and NF-κB inhibitor I-kappa-B-alpha (IkBa) was verified by Co-immunoprecipitation analysis. Immunofluorescence was used to analyze the activation of NF-κB. Finally, we tested the role of WDR5 using the mice late-onset preeclampsia model. Results: WDR5 was highly expressed in the placentas of late-onset preeclampsia patients. WDR5 overexpression suppressed cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in trophoblast. WDR5 could interact with IkBa to activate NF-κB. Knockdown of NF-κB counteracted the anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic effects of WDR5 overexpression in trophoblast. In-vivo studies suggested that targeting WDR5 combated late-onset preeclampsia development. Conclusions: Our finding provides new insights into the role of WDR5 in late-onset preeclampsia development.

Abstract Background The association of anxiety and depression with adverse reactions after receipt of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine is not clear among the general population. This study aims to evaluate the effect of anxiety and depression on self-reported adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccine. Methods The cross-sectional study was conducted during April–July 2021. Participants completing the two doses of vaccine were included in this study. Sociodemographic information, anxiety and depression levels and adverse reactions after the first dose of vaccine for all participants were collected. The anxiety and depression levels were assessed by the Seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale and the Nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire Scale, respectively. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between anxiety and depression and adverse reactions. Results A total of 2161 participants were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of anxiety and depression was 13% (95% confidence interval (CI), 11.3–14.2%) and 15% (95%CI, 13.6–16.7%), respectively. Of the 2161 participants, 1607 (74%; 95% CI, 73–76%) reported at least one adverse reaction after the first dose of the vaccine. Pain at the injection site (55%) and fatigue and headache (53% and 18%, respectively) were the most commonly reported local and systemic adverse reactions, respectively. Li-N2 batteries present a relatively novel approach to N2 immobilization, and an advanced N2/Li3N cycling method is introduced in this study. The low operating overpotential of metal–air batteries is quite favorable to their stable cycling performance, providing a prospect for the development of a new type of battery with extreme voltage. The battery system of Li-N2 uses N2 as the positive electrode, lithium metal as the negative electrode, and a conductive medium containing soluble lithium salts as the electrolyte. In accordance with its voltage-distribution trend, a variety of lithium-nitrogen molecule intermediates are produced during the discharge process. There is a lack of theoretical description of material changes at the microscopic level during the discharge process. In this paper, the first-principles approach is used to simulate and analyze possible material changes during the discharge process of Li-N2 batteries. The discharge process is simulated on a 4N-graphene anode substrate model, and simulations of its electrostatic potential, Density of States (DOS), HOMO (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital) and LUMO (Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital) aspects confirm that the experimentally found Li3N becomes the final stabilized product of the Li-N2 battery. It can also be seen in the density of states that graphene with adsorption of 4N transforms from semiconducting to metallic properties. In addition, the differential charge also indicates that the Li-N2 material has a strong adsorption effect on the substrate, which can play the dual role of electricity storage and nitrogen fixation.

For solid waste-based cementitious materials, most scholars focus their research on the hydration reaction of cementitious materials, but there is still a lack of solid waste design that comprehensively considers mechanical properties and durability. Therefore, this article focuses on exploring the mix of design and the microscopic and macroscopic properties of multi solid waste cementitious materials (MSWCMs), namely steel slag (SS), slag powder (SP), desulfurization gypsum (DG), fly ash (FA), and ordinary Portland cement (OPC). According to the orthogonal experimental results, the compressive strength of MSWCMs is optimal when the OPC content is 50% and the SS, SP, DG, and FA contents are 10%, 20%, 5%, and 15%, respectively. The MSWCMs group with an OPC content of 50% and SS, SP, DG, and FA contents of 5%, 15%, 5%, and 25% was selected as the control group. The pure OPC group was used as the blank group, and the optimal MSWCMs ratio group had a 28-day compressive strength of 50.7 megapascals, which was 14% and 7.6% higher than the control group and blank group, respectively. The drying shrinkage rate and resistance to chloride ions were also significantly improved, with maximum increases of 22.9%, 22.6%, and 8.9%, 9.8%, respectively. According to XRD, TG-DTG, and NMR testing, the improvement in macroscopic performance can be attributed to the synergistic effect between various solid wastes. This synergistic effect produces more ettringite (AFt) and C-(A)-S-H gel. This study provides a good theoretical basis for improving the comprehensive performance of MSWCMs and is conducive to reducing the use of cement, with significant economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract The modern high topography of the eastern Tibetan Plateau is drained by several of the largest rivers on Earth, and exerts a prominent influence on the Asian monsoon pattern. However, when the high terrain was formed remains highly debated. Here, we present detrital zircon U‐Pb ages that indicate a south‐flowing drainage system with distal headwaters passed through the Ninglang Basin at ca. 45 Ma. We advocate for early–middle Eocene surface uplift in the Gonjo Basin and areas to the west creating a southeast tilted topography across eastern Tibet. The termination of sedimentation at ca. 40 Ma implies that the river system had deviated from the Ninglang Basin, which we interpret as a result of rise of the Yalong‐Yulong thrust belt. Combined with other lines of evidence from previous studies, we support the establishment of moderate‐high elevation topography of eastern Tibet by late Eocene time.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are characterized by chronic relapsing intestinal inflammation that causes digestive system dysfunction. For years, researchers have been working to find more effective and safer therapeutic strategies to treat these diseases. Silibinin (SIL), a flavonoid compound extracted from the seeds of milk thistle plants, possesses multiple biological activities and is traditionally applied to treat liver diseases. SIL is also widely used in the treatment of a variety of inflammatory diseases attributed to its excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the efficacy of SIL against IBDs and its mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism, we found that SIL can effectively relieve intestinal inflammation caused by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). Our results suggested that SIL supplementation can inhibit the overproliferation of intestinal stem cells (ISCs) induced by DSS, protect intestinal barrier function, acid-base balance, and intestinal excretion function, reduce intestinal reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and inflammatory stress, and extend the lifespan of Drosophila. Furthermore, our study demonstrated that SIL ameliorates intestinal inflammation via modulating the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway in Drosophila. Our research aims to provide new insight into the treatment of IBDs.

Objectives: Several researchers performed case-control studies to explore the relationship between Hashimoto's thyroiditis(HT) and ovarian reserve using anti-Müllerian hormone(AMH) in adolescent girls and women. But the results among these studies are inconsistent and the relationship between HT and ovarian reserve is still controversial. The study aimed to conduct the meta analysis of case-control studies to confirm the relationship between HT and ovarian reserve using AMH. Methods: 6 electronic databases including PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Internet(CNKI), SinoMed and Wanfang were searched from inception to December 2021. Endnote X7.0 software was applied to managing all the relevant records. Then data extraction and evaluation of methodological quality of included studies were conducted after two-step selection.Review manager 5.4 version software and Stata 12.0 version software were used to perform all statistical analyses. Results: 10 case-control studies involving 1202 individuals were included in the present study. The simultaneous high-capacity and fast removal of radioactive barium ion (Ba2+) from nuclear wastewater is necessary but still faces large challenge. In this study, a novel adsorbent containing sulfonic group, MOF-808-SO3H, was prepared based on the oxidation of –SH group. Characterizations confirm the successful introduction of –SO3H, good porosity, and stability of the material. The adsorbent exhibits excellent capture ability for Ba2+ due to strong hard acid-base and electrostatic interactions, with the adsorption capacity of 152.0 mg g−1 and fast equilibrium adsorption time, superior to other reported materials. Optimal pH was found to be almost neutral and temperature cannot affect the adsorption largely. Besides, the irreversible adsorption was demonstrated and thereby the secondary pollution may be avoided. Therefore, our work provides an efficient adsorbent for capturing Ba2+ irreversibly, and proposes a feasible strategy for constructing adsorbents with simultaneous high adsorption capacity and fast kinetics.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly malignant tumor that carries a significant risk of morbidity and mortality. This type of cancer is prevalent in Asia due to the widespread presence of risk factors. Unfortunately, HCC often goes undetected until it has reached an advanced stage, making early detection and treatment critical for better outcomes. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is commonly used in clinical practice for diagnosing HCC, but its sensitivity and specificity are limited. While surgery and liver transplantation are the main radical treatments, drug therapy and local interventions are better options for patients with advanced HCC. Accurately assessing treatment efficacy and adjusting plans in a timely manner can significantly improve the prognosis of HCC. Non-coding RNA gene transcription products cannot participate in protein production, but they can regulate gene expression and protein function through the regulation of transcription and translation processes. These non-coding RNAs have been found to be associated with tumor development in various types of tumors. Noncoding RNA released by tumor or blood cells can circulate in the blood and serve as a biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and efficacy assessment. This article explores the unique role of circulating noncoding RNA in HCC from various perspectives.

BackgroundStudies have found that sleep disturbance is associated with obsessive–compulsive symptoms. This study aimed to elaborate on the mediating and moderating mechanisms between these two variables. We hypothesized that repetitive negative thinking plays a mediating role in the relationship between sleep disturbance and obsessive–compulsive symptoms, and experiential avoidance plays a moderating role.MethodThis study included 639 Chinese adults. A questionnaire survey was used to assess sleep quality, obsessive–compulsive symptoms, experiential avoidance, repetitive negative thinking, and depression symptoms. A moderated mediation model was established.ResultsAfter controlling for depressive symptoms, repetitive negative thinking partially mediated the positive correlation between sleep disturbance and obsessive–compulsive symptoms. This indirect relationship was significant in individuals with lower experiential avoidance levels. Particularly, the relationship between sleep disturbance and repetitive negative thinking was significant among individuals with lower experiential avoidance levels, but not among individuals with higher experiential avoidance levels.ConclusionThis study demonstrated that repetitive negative thinking partially mediated the impact of sleep disturbance on obsessive–compulsive symptoms. The findings suggest that when providing support to individuals with sleep disturbance and obsessive–compulsive symptoms, assessing their level of experiential avoidance is necessary for performing targeted interventions. Individuals with low experiential avoidance may benefit from a clinical intervention targeting repetitive negative thinking to improve sleep quality and obsessive–compulsive symptoms.

Introduction: BuShen HuoXue (BSHX) decoction is commonly used in the clinical treatment of premature ovarian failure because it can increase estradiol level and decrease follicle-stimulating hormone level. In this study, we determined the potential therapeutic effects of BSHX decoction via anti-stress pathway and the underlying mechanism by using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans as an assay system.Methods: Bisphenol A (BPA, 175 μg/mL) was used to establish a fertility-defective C. elegans model. Nematodes were cultivated according to standard methods. Brood size, DTC, the number of apoptotic cells and oocytes were used to evaluate the fertility of nematodes. Nematodes were cultivated at 35°C as heat stress. RNA isolation and RT-qPCR were used to detect the mRNA expression level of genes. Intestinal ROS and intestinal permeability were used to evaluate the function of intestinal barrier. BSHX decoction was extracted with water and analyzed by LC/Q-TOF.Results and Discussion: In BPA-treated N2 nematodes, 62.5 mg/mL BSHX decoction significantly improved the brood size and the oocytes quality at different developmental stages. BSHX decoction improved resistance to heat stress through the hsf-1-mediated heat-shock signaling pathway. Further analysis showed that the decoction significantly improved the transcriptional levels of hsf-1 downstream target genes, such as hsp-16.1, hsp-16.2, hsp-16.41, and hsp-16.48. Other than hsp-16.2 expression in the gonad, the decoction also affected intestinal hsp-16.2 expression and significantly reversed the adverse effects induced by BPA. Moreover, the decoction ameliorated intestinal ROS and permeability. Thus, BSHX decoction can improve fertility by increasing intestinal barrier function via hsp-16.2-mediated heat-shock signaling pathway in C. elegans. These findings reveal the underlying regulatory mechanisms of hsp-16.2-mediated heat resistance against fertility defect.

Geomagnetic observation is an important approach to explore the variations of the Earth’s magnetic field. However, factors such as observation environment, observation facilities and observation equipment may affect the quality of observation data. This paper deeply analyzes the factors that may affect the quality of data in China’s current geomagnetic observations, and discusses in detail the strategies we have implemented in this field. These strategies include the selection of observation sites, the protection and monitoring of the observation environment, the maintenance and improvement of observation facilities, the maintenance and monitoring of observation equipment, the analysis and processing of interference information, and effective measures in quality control.

As a key component connecting a floating wind turbine with static sea cables, dynamic cables undergo significant tensile and bending loads caused by hydrostatic pressure, self-weight, waves, and ocean currents during service, which can lead to fatigue failure. Thus, dynamic and fatigue analyses are necessary for the design and operation of dynamic cables. In this study, a fatigue analysis of the three-core four-layer armored dynamic cable used in a semisubmersible floating wind turbine was carried out at a water depth of 25 m. The Miner linear cumulative damage method, based on material S-N curves, was used to predict fatigue life. The results indicate that, at 10 times the safety factor, the dynamic cables meet the design requirement of a 30-year service life in the studied marine environment. The maximal curvature of the dynamic cable always appears at the exit of the bend stiffener, even beyond the allowed point. Adding weights to the section where the cable exits the bend stiffener and adjusting the bend stiffener’s hanging angle can both reduce the curvature at the bend stiffener exit. The scheme of adjusting the bend stiffener’s hanging angle is preferred, for it is easier for simultaneous adjusting and inducing much smaller extra stress in the cable. As the hanging angle increases, the curvature at the bend stiffener exit decreases, while the maximal effective tension and maximal von Mises stress gradually increase. For certain operating conditions, especially with higher waves, it is better to adjust the hanging angle to avoid excessive curvature and, meanwhile, ensure the increase in the stress within a reasonable range.

Lung cancer is one of the most common and intractable malignancies. It is associated with low survival rates despite existing treatments, indicating that new and more effective therapies are urgently needed such as the chimeric antigen receptor-T (CAR-T) cell immunotherapy. The cell-surface glucose-regulated protein 78 (csGRP78) is expressed in various hematological malignancies and solid tumor cells including lung cancer in response to cancer-related endoplasmic reticulum stress, while GRP78 is restricted to inside the normal cells. Here, we detected the prominent expression of csGRP78 in both lung cancer cell lines, A549 and H1299, as well as cancer stemlike cells derived from A549 by immunofluorescence. Next, a csGRP78-targeted CAR was constructed, and the transduced CAR-T cells were tested for their potency to kill the two lung cancer cell lines and derived stemlike cells, which was correlated with specific interferon γ release in vitro. Finally, we found that csGRP78 CAR-T cells also efficiently killed both lung cancer cells and cancer stemlike cells, resulting into the elimination of tumor xenografts in vivo, neither with any evidence of relapse after 63 days of tumor clearance nor any detrimental impact on other body organs we examined. Our study reveals the capacity of csGRP78 as a therapeutic target and offers valuable insight into the development of csGRP78 CAR-T cells as potential therapy for lung cancer.

In this study, all-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) for pure blue emission are explored for full-color displays. We prepared CsPbBr3 and Cs3NdCl6 QDs via hot injection methods and mixed in various ratios at room temperature for color blending. Nd-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs showed a blueshift in emission, and the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY, ΦPL) were lower in the 460–470 nm range due to surface halogen and Cs vacancies. To address this, we introduced a silane molecule, APTMS, via a ligand exchange process, effectively repairing these vacancies and enhancing Nd doping into the lattice. This modification promotes the PLQY to 94% at 466 nm. Furthermore, combining these QDs with [1]Benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT), a conjugated small-molecule semiconductor, in a composite film reduced PLQY loss caused by FRET in solid-state QD films. This approach achieved a wide color gamut of 124% National Television System Committee (NTSC), using a UV LED backlight and RGB perovskite QDs in a BTBT-based organic matrix as the color conversion layer. Significantly, the photostability of this composite was enhanced when used as a color conversion layer (CCL) under blue-LED excitation.

Background: Afatinib is an irreversible epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and it plays a role in hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC). This study aimed to screen a key gene associated with afatinib and identify its potential candidate drugs.Methods: We screened afatinib-associated differential expressed genes based on transcriptomic data of LIHC patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas, Gene Expression Omnibus, and the Hepatocellular Carcinoma Database (HCCDB). By using the Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer 2 database, we determined candidate genes using analysis of the correlation between differential genes and half-maximal inhibitory concentration. Survival analysis of candidate genes was performed in the TCGA dataset and validated in HCCDB18 and GSE14520 datasets. Immune characteristic analysis identified a key gene, and we found potential candidate drugs using CellMiner. We also evaluated the correlation between the expression of ADH1B and its methylation level. Furthermore, Western blot analysis was performed to validate the expression of ADH1B in normal hepatocytes LO2 and LIHC cell line HepG2.Results: We screened eight potential candidate genes (ASPM, CDK4, PTMA, TAT, ADH1B, ANXA10, OGDHL, and PON1) associated with afatinib. Patients with higher ASPM, CDK4, PTMA, and TAT exhibited poor prognosis, while those with lower ADH1B, ANXA10, OGDHL, and PON1 had unfavorable prognosis. Next, ADH1B was identified as a key gene negatively correlated with the immune score. The expression of ADH1B was distinctly downregulated in tumor tissues of pan-cancer. The expression of ADH1B was negatively correlated with ADH1B methylation. Small-molecule drugs panobinostat, oxaliplatin, ixabepilone, and seliciclib were significantly associated with ADH1B. The protein level of ADH1B was significantly downregulated in HepG2 cells compared with LO2 cells.Conclusion: Our study provides ADH1B as a key afatinib-related gene, which is associated with the immune microenvironment and can be used to predict the prognosis of LIHC. It is also a potential target of candidate drugs, sharing a promising approach to the development of novel drugs for the treatment of LIHC.

Population density is an essential factor affecting the life history traits of insects and their trade-off relationships, as increasing density intensifies intraspecific competition. It decreases the average resources available to individuals within a population, affecting their morphology, physiology, behavior, and fitness. The fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae), has been an invasive pest of forest trees, ornamental plants, and fruit trees in China for many years. The larvae have a typical aggregation habit before the fourth instar and keep spitting silk to gather the damaged leaves into silk webs. However, the fitness of H. cunea in response to population density remains unclear. In this study, the critical biological parameters, food utilization, and population parameters of H. cunea in response to different rearing densities were investigated. The results showed that under high population density, H. cunea larvae showed better performance, with faster development, higher survival rates, and shorter generation time, but pupal weight and female fecundity decreased as population density increased. In contrast, for larvae raised in low density, the developmental period was prolonged, and mortality was increased, while higher food utilization, greater body size, and female fecundity were observed. Both males and females had similar development strategies in response to the density, but females may be more resistant to crowding than males. In conclusion, H. cunea could adopt different ecological strategies against the stress of density. High population densities result in shorter generation cycles and higher survival rates. Conversely, the low-density generation period becomes longer but with greater fecundity. The results may help determine the possible outbreak mechanism and develop effective population monitoring and forecasting measures for H. cunea.

In this study, real-time electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were obtained from patients with DOC during HBO therapy. Abstract The uplift and deformation styles of the Tibetan Plateau have been long debated on stepwise growth and crustal channel flow. Here, we offer new insight into this issue by constraining the pulsed exhumation history of the Yalong thrust belt in eastern Tibet, using apatite and zircon (U–Th)/He data from three ∼1 km vertical transects. The results revealed two rapid cooling pulses in the Late Oligocene (∼24 Ma, 50°C/m.y.) and the Middle Miocene (17–14 Ma, 35 °C/m.y.), respectively, which we ascribe to the staged‐thrusting faulting of this belt. These thrust faulting events indicated upward and eastward growth of the Tibetan Plateau, further suggested that the high topographic relief across the Yalong thrust belt mainly formed (at least) since the Late Oligocene. The available documents from paleoaltimetry, basin sediment accumulation, and thermochronometers and our new results reveal a regional‐scale stepwise propagation pattern of tectonic deformation during the Middle–Late Cenozoic in eastern Tibet.
