Abstract

Land cover in tropical marine climate zones is important for global climate change. The existing analysis of land cover product consistency mainly focuses on a continental or national scale and rarely takes different geographical zones (such as tropical marine climate zones) as examples to carry out micro-interpretation from the perspective of ecology from the grid scale. In fact, some types of land cover under different zones have poor accuracy due to the standard of cognition and the complexity of the spatial pattern of ground objects. In addition, land cover and its change in tropical Marine climate zones will affect the greenhouse effect, energy balance, water transport, and so on, thus affecting climate change on a regional or even global scale. Therefore, this article presents an evaluation based on GLOBCOVER, CCI LC, and MCD12Q1 data using Malaysia as a case study, through area composition similarity, field sample point validation, and landscape indices. The results showed that (1) the area correlation coefficient between GLOBCOVER and CCI LC is the highest at 0.998. (2) The CCI LC had the highest OA and kappa coefficient of 59.01% and 0.4957, while the GLOBCOVER product had the lowest OA and kappa coefficient of 49.24% and 0.3614, respectively. (3) The consistency of the water landscape index is high between the CCI LC and GLOBCOVE data, the consistency of the artificial surfaces landscape index is high between the CCI LC and MCD12Q1 products, and the consistency of the grassland/shrubland landscape index is high between the GLOBCOVE and MCD12Q1 products. The results of microscopic landscape patterns show that the three product landscape patterns are generally more consistent in East Malaysia than in West Malaysia. The low accuracy of grassland, bareland, and shrubland is the key reason for the wide variation in landscape patterns between the three products.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of marine pollution during the past few decades motivated recent research to help ease the situation. Typical water quality assessment requires continuous monitoring of water and sediments at remote locations with labour intensive laboratory tests to determine the degree of pollution. We propose an automated framework where we formalise a predictive model using Machine Learning to infer the water quality and level of pollution using collected water and sediments samples. One commonly encountered difficulty performing statistical analysis with water and sediment is the limited amount of data samples and incomplete dataset due to the sparsity of sample collection location. To this end, we performed extensive investigation on various data imputation methods' performance in water and sediment datasets with various data missing rates. Empirically, we show that our best model archives an accuracy of 75% after accounting for 57% of missing data. Experimentally, we show that our model would assist in assessing water quality screening based on possibly incomplete real-world data.

Abstract

Both classical and quantum dynamics of the synchronization between two nonlinear mechanical modes scattered from Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) by the standing-wave laser beam are comparatively investigated. As the ultra-low dissipations of the momentum modes in the atomic BECs, the synchronized dynamics are studied in a framework of closed-system theory in order to track down both the classical and the quantum synchronizations from an angle of quantum control. The classical synchronization and the relevant dynamics of measure synchronization, the quantum synchronization and two different types of measures proposed by Mari and estimated by mutual information based on $Q$-function are studied respectively in order to reveal both the macroscopic and the microscopic signatures of synchronized behaviors in a closed quantum system. The results demonstrate that the "revival and collapse" of the quantum fluctuations beyond the classical mean-value dynamics due to long-lasting mode coherence discriminates the quantum synchronization from the classical one, which not only excludes the possibilities of an exact synchronization and a perfect density overlap in phase space, but also leads to upper limitations to Mari measure and large unceasing fluctuations to mutual information between two scattering modes. We reveal a close dynamic connection between Mari measure and the mutual information of two nonlinear momentum modes in closed BEC systems by demonstrating an opposite mean-value behavior but a similar fluctuation variation with respect to their respective evolutionary scales., Comment: 21 pages, 13 figures

Abstract

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides exhibit antihypertensive effects by inhibiting ACE activity, and the study of the interaction between ACEs and inhibitory peptides is important for exploring new therapeutic strategies. In this study, the ACE-inhibitory peptide isolated from casein hydrolysate with the amino acid sequence Leu–Leu–Tyr (LLY) exhibited high ACE-inhibitory activity and stability, which holds significant implications for biochemistry and pharmaceutical applications. Furthermore, systematic investigations were conducted on the interaction between ACE and LLY through various approaches. The Lineweaver–Burk plot indicated the non-competitive inhibition pattern of LLY, suggesting that it binds to the enzyme at the non-active site, and the results were further validated by a molecular docking study. Additionally, multispectral experiments and atomic force microscopy were conducted to further elucidate the underlying mechanism of peptide activity. The findings indicated that LLY could induce a conformational change in ACE, thereby inhibiting its activity. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the mechanism of action of ACE-inhibitory peptides and bears important significance for drug development in hypertension. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
