Operators experience complicated physiological and psychological states when exposed to extreme heat stress, which can impair cognitive function and decrease performance significantly, ultimately leading to severe secondary disasters. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a feasible technique to identify their abnormal states to enhance the reliability of human-cybernetics systems. With the advancement of deep learning in physiological modeling, a model for evaluating operators' performance driven by electrocardiogram (ECG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was proposed, demonstrating high ecological validity. The model fused a convolutional neural network (CNN) backbone and a graph attention network (GAT) backbone to extract discriminative features from ECG time-frequency spectrums and fNIRS prefrontal cortex (PFC) network respectively with deeper neuroscience domain knowledge, and eventually achieved 0.90 AUC. Results supported that handcrafted features extracted by specialized neuroscience methods can alleviate overfitting. Inspired by the small-world nature of the brain network, the fNIRS PFC network was organized as an undirected graph and embedded by GAT. It is proven to perform better in information aggregation and delivery compared to a simple non-linear transformation. The model provides a potential neuroergonomics application for evaluating the human state in vital human-cybernetics systems under industry 5.0 scenarios.

Operators' cognitive functions are impaired significantly under extreme heat stress, potentially resulting in more severe secondary disasters. This research investigated the impact of elevated temperature and humidity (25 60%RH, 30 70%RH, 35 80%RH, 40 90%RH) on the cognitive functions and performance of operators. Meanwhile, we explored the psychological-physiological mechanism underlying the change in performance by electrocardiogram (ECG), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and eye tracking physiologically. Psychological aspects such as situation awareness, workload, and working memory were assessed. Eventually, we verified and extended the maximal adaptability model to the extreme condition. Unexpectedly, a temporary improvement in simple reaction tasks but rapid impairment in advanced cognitive functions (i.e. situation awareness, communication, working memory) was obtained above 35 WBGT. The best performance in a suitable environment was due to more effective activation in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). With temperature increasing, more mistakes occurred and comprehension was impaired due to drowsiness and lower arousal levels, according to evidence of compensatory effect in fNIRS. In the extreme environment, the enhanced PFC cooperation with higher functional connectivity resulted in a temporary improvement, while depressed activation in PFC, heavy physical load, and poor regulation of the cardiovascular system restricted it. Our results provide a detailed study of the process of operators' performance and cognitive functions when encountering increasing heat stress, as well as its underlying mechanisms from a neuroergonomics perspective. This can contribute to a better understanding of the interaction between operators' performance and workplace conditions, and help to achieve a more reliable human-centered production system in the promising era of Industry 5.0.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) stands as the leading cause of death worldwide, and invasive coronary angiography (ICA) remains the gold standard for assessing vascular anatomical information. However, deep learning-based methods encounter challenges in generating semantic labels for arterial segments, primarily due to the morphological similarity between arterial branches and varying anatomy of arterial system between different projection view angles and patients. To address this challenge, we model the vascular tree as a graph and propose a multi-graph graph matching (MGM) algorithm for coronary artery semantic labeling. The MGM algorithm assesses the similarity between arterials in multiple vascular tree graphs, considering the cycle consistency between each pair of graphs. As a result, the unannotated arterial segments are appropriately labeled by matching them with annotated segments. Through the incorporation of anatomical graph structure, radiomics features, and semantic mapping, the proposed MGM model achieves an impressive accuracy of 0.9471 for coronary artery semantic labeling using our multi-site dataset with 718 ICAs. With the semantic labeled arteries, an overall accuracy of 0.9155 was achieved for stenosis detection. The proposed MGM presents a novel tool for coronary artery analysis using multiple ICA-derived graphs, offering valuable insights into vascular health and pathology.

A method was proposed for the point cloud-based registration and image fusion between cardiac single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion images (MPI) and cardiac computed tomography angiograms (CTA). Firstly, the left ventricle (LV) epicardial regions (LVERs) in SPECT and CTA images were segmented by using different U-Net neural networks trained to generate the point clouds of the LV epicardial contours (LVECs). Secondly, according to the characteristics of cardiac anatomy, the special points of anterior and posterior interventricular grooves (APIGs) were manually marked in both SPECT and CTA image volumes. Thirdly, we developed an in-house program for coarsely registering the special points of APIGs to ensure a correct cardiac orientation alignment between SPECT and CTA images. Fourthly, we employed ICP, SICP or CPD algorithm to achieve a fine registration for the point clouds (together with the special points of APIGs) of the LV epicardial surfaces (LVERs) in SPECT and CTA images. Finally, the image fusion between SPECT and CTA was realized after the fine registration. The experimental results showed that the cardiac orientation was aligned well and the mean distance error of the optimal registration method (CPD with affine transform) was consistently less than 3 mm. The proposed method could effectively fuse the structures from cardiac CTA and SPECT functional images, and demonstrated a potential in assisting in accurate diagnosis of cardiac diseases by combining complementary advantages of the two imaging modalities.

The graph-matching procedure maps the arterial branches between two individual graphs, so that the unlabeled arterial segments are classified by the labeled segments, and the coronary artery semantic labeling is achieved. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the primary causes leading deaths worldwide. The presence of atherosclerotic lesions in coronary arteries is the underlying pathophysiological basis of CAD, and accurate extraction of individual arterial branches using invasive coronary angiography (ICA) is crucial for stenosis detection and CAD diagnosis. We propose an innovative approach called the Edge Attention Graph Matching Network (EAGMN) for coronary artery semantic labeling. By converting the coronary artery semantic segmentation task into a graph node similarity comparison task, identifying the node-to-node correspondence would assign semantic labels for each arterial branch. More specifically, The EAGMN utilizes the association graph constructed from the two individual graphs as input. Experimental results indicate the EAGMN achieved a weighted accuracy of 0.8653, a weighted precision of 0.8656, a weighted recall of 0.8653 and a weighted F1-score of 0.8643. Furthermore, we employ ZORRO to provide interpretability and explainability of the graph matching for artery semantic labeling. These findings highlight the potential of the EAGMN for accurate and efficient coronary artery semantic labeling using ICAs. By leveraging the inherent characteristics of ICAs and incorporating graph matching techniques, our proposed model provides a promising solution for improving CAD diagnosis and treatment

Semantic labeling of coronary arterial segments in invasive coronary angiography (ICA) is important for automated assessment and report generation of coronary artery stenosis in the computer-aided diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Inspired by the training procedure of interventional cardiologists for interpreting the structure of coronary arteries, we propose an association graph-based graph matching network (AGMN) for coronary arterial semantic labeling. We first extract the vascular tree from invasive coronary angiography (ICA) and convert it into multiple individual graphs. Then, an association graph is constructed from two individual graphs where each vertex represents the relationship between two arterial segments. Using the association graph, the AGMN extracts the vertex features by the embedding module, aggregates the features from adjacent vertices and edges by graph convolution network, and decodes the features to generate the semantic mappings between arteries. By learning the mapping of arterial branches between two individual graphs, the unlabeled arterial segments are classified by the labeled segments to achieve semantic labeling. A dataset containing 263 ICAs was employed to train and validate the proposed model, and a five-fold cross-validation scheme was performed. Our AGMN model achieved an average accuracy of 0.8264, an average precision of 0.8276, an average recall of 0.8264, and an average F1-score of 0.8262, which significantly outperformed existing coronary artery semantic labeling methods. Galactic cosmic rays are mostly made up of energetic nuclei, with less than $1\%$ of electrons (and positrons). Precise measurement of the electron and positron component requires a very efficient method to reject the nuclei background, mainly protons. In this work, we develop an unsupervised machine learning method to identify electrons and positrons from cosmic ray protons for the Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) experiment. Compared with the supervised learning method used in the DAMPE experiment, this unsupervised method relies solely on real data except for the background estimation process. As a result, it could effectively reduce the uncertainties from simulations. For three energy ranges of electrons and positrons, 80--128 GeV, 350--700 GeV, and 2--5 TeV, the residual background fractions in the electron sample are found to be about (0.45 $\pm$ 0.02)$\%$, (0.52 $\pm$ 0.04)$\%$, and (10.55 $\pm$ 1.80)$\%$, and the background rejection power is about (6.21 $\pm$ 0.03) $\times$ $10^4$, (9.03 $\pm$ 0.05) $\times$ $10^4$, and (3.06 $\pm$ 0.32) $\times$ $10^4$, respectively. Accurate extraction of coronary arteries from invasive coronary angiography (ICA) is important in clinical decision-making for the diagnosis and risk stratification of coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study, we develop a method using deep learning to automatically extract the coronary artery lumen. Methods. A deep learning model U-Net 3+, which incorporates the full-scale skip connections and deep supervisions, was proposed for automatic extraction of coronary arteries from ICAs. Transfer learning and a hybrid loss function were employed in this novel coronary artery extraction framework. Results. A data set containing 616 ICAs obtained from 210 patients was used. In the technical evaluation, the U-Net 3+ achieved a Dice score of 0.8942 and a sensitivity of 0.8735, which is higher than U-Net ++ (Dice score: 0.8814, the sensitivity of 0.8331) and U-net (Dice score: 0.8799, the sensitivity of 0.8305). Conclusion. Our study demonstrates that the U-Net 3+ is superior to other segmentation frameworks for the automatic extraction of the coronary arteries from ICAs. Automatic identification of proper image frames at the end-diastolic (ED) and end-systolic (ES) frames during the review of invasive coronary angiograms (ICA) is important to assess blood flow during a cardiac cycle, reconstruct the 3D arterial anatomy from bi-planar views, and generate the complementary fusion map with myocardial images. The current identification method primarily relies on visual interpretation, making it not only time-consuming but also less reproducible. In this paper, we propose a new method to automatically identify angiographic image frames associated with the ED and ES cardiac phases by using the trajectories of key vessel points (i.e. landmarks). More specifically, a detection algorithm is first used to detect the key points of coronary arteries, and then an optical flow method is employed to track the trajectories of the selected key points. The ED and ES frames are identified based on all these trajectories. Our method was tested with 62 ICA videos from two separate medical centers (22 and 9 patients in sites 1 and 2, respectively). Comparing consensus interpretations by two human expert readers, excellent agreement was achieved by the proposed algorithm: the agreement rates within a one-frame range were 92.99% and 92.73% for the automatic identification of the ED and ES image frames, respectively. In conclusion, the proposed automated method showed great potential for being an integral part of automated ICA image analysis.

The Forbush Decrease (FD) represents the rapid decrease of the intensities of charged particles accompanied with the coronal mass ejections (CMEs) or high-speed streams from coronal holes. It has been mainly explored with ground-based neutron monitors network which indirectly measure the integrated intensities of all species of cosmic rays by counting secondary neutrons produced from interaction between atmosphere atoms and cosmic rays. The space-based experiments can resolve the species of particles but the energy ranges are limited by the relative small acceptances except for the most abundant particles like protons and helium. Therefore, the FD of cosmic ray electrons and positrons have just been investigated by the PAMELA experiment in the low energy range ($<5$ GeV) with limited statistics. In this paper, we study the FD event occurred in September, 2017, with the electron and positron data recorded by the Dark Matter Particle Explorer. The evolution of the FDs from 2 GeV to 20 GeV with a time resolution of 6 hours are given. We observe two solar energetic particle events in the time profile of the intensity of cosmic rays, the earlier and weak one has not been shown in the neutron monitor data. Furthermore, both the amplitude and recovery time of fluxes of electrons and positrons show clear energy-dependence, which is important in probing the disturbances of the interplanetary environment by the coronal mass ejections., Comment: This article is dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of People's Republic of China

Background. Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) in stable coronary artery disease(CAD) is commonly triggered by abnormal myocardial perfusion imaging(MPI). However, due to the possibilities of multivessel disease and variability of coronary artery perfusion distribution, opportunity exists to better align anatomic stenosis with perfusion abnormalities to improve revascularization decisions. This study aims to develop a 3D multi-modality fusion approach to assist decision-making for PCI. Methods. Coronary arteries from fluoroscopic angiography(FA) were reconstructed into 3D artery anatomy. Left ventricular(LV) epicardial surface was extracted from SPECT. The 3D artery anatomy was non-rigidly fused with the LV epicardial surface. The accuracy of the 3D fusion was evaluated via both computer simulation and real patient data. For technical validation, simulated FA and MPI were integrated and then compared with the ground truth from a digital phantom. For clinical validation, FA and SPECT images were integrated and then compared with the ground truth from CT angiograms. Results. In the technical evaluation, the distance-based mismatch error between simulated fluoroscopy and phantom arteries is 1.86(SD:1.43)mm for left coronary arteries(LCA) and 2.21(SD:2.50)mm for right coronary arteries(RCA). In the clinical validation, the distance-based mismatch errors between the fluoroscopy and CT arteries were 3.84(SD:3.15)mm for LCA and 5.55(SD:3.64)mm for RCA. The presence of the corresponding fluoroscopy and CT arteries in the AHA 17-segment model agreed well with a Kappa value of 0.91(95% CI: 0.89-0.93) for LCA and 0.80(CI: 0.67-0.92) for RCA. Conclusions. Our fusion approach is technically accurate to assist PCI decision-making and is clinically feasible to be used in the catheterization laboratory.
