The goal of phase II clinical trials is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of a new drug. Some investigators want to use the time-to-event endpoint as the primary endpoint of the phase II study to see the improvement of the therapeutic efficacy of a new drug in median survival time. Recently, median event time test (METT) has been proposed to provide a simple and straightforward rule which compares the observed median survival time with the prespecified threshold. However, median survival time would not be observed during the trial if the drug performs well and indeed cures most patients or if the accrual rate is so fast. To address the issues in clinical practice, we first propose a percentile event time test (PETT), which generalizes METT to any percentile of the survival time, and develop data-driven monitoring for phase II clinical trial designs based on PETT. Ultrasound imaging has shown promise in assessing synovium inflammation associated early stages of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The precise identification of the synovium and the quantification of inflammation-specific imaging biomarkers is a crucial aspect of accurately quantifying and grading RA. In this study, a deep learning-based approach is presented that automates the segmentation of the synovium in ultrasound images of finger joints affected by RA. Two convolutional neural network architectures for image segmentation were trained and validated in a limited number of 2-D images, extracted from N = 18 3-D ultrasound volumes acquired from N = 9 RA patients, with sparse ground truth annotations of the synovium. Various augmentation strategies were employed to enhance the diversity and size of the training dataset. The utilization of geometric and noise augmentation transforms resulted in the highest dice score (0.768 ± 0. 031 , N = 6) , and intersection over union (0. 624 ± 0.040, N = 6), as determined via six-fold cross-validation. In addition, the segmentation model is used to generate dense 3-D segmentation maps in the ultrasound volumes, based on the available sparse annotations. Planar perovskite solar cells (PSCs), as a promising photovoltaic technology, have been extensively studied, with strong expectations for commercialization. Improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs is necessary to accelerate their practical application, in which the electron transport layer (ETL) plays a key part. Herein, a single-anchored ligand of phenylphosphonic acid (PPA) is utilized to regulate the chemical bath deposition of a TiO2 ETL, further improving the PCE of planar PSCs. The PPA possesses a steric benzene ring and a phosphoric acid group, which can inhibit the particle aggregation of the TiO2 film through steric hindrance, leading to optimized interface (ETL/perovskite) contact. In addition, the incorporated PPA can induce the upshift of the Fermi-level of the TiO2 film, which is beneficial for interfacial electron transport. As a consequence, the PSCs with PPA-TiO2 achieve a PCE of 24.83%, which is higher than that (24.21%) of PSCs with TiO2. In addition, the unencapsulated PSCs with PPA-TiO2 also exhibit enhanced stability when stored in ambient conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Deuterium‐labeled compounds, particularly deuterium‐doped aniline aromatics, play a crucial role in chemistry, environment, and biology. However, the conventional deuteration method relies on a hydrogen atmosphere, which poses limitations for sensitive substrates containing halogen functional groups. This is due to the potential occurrence of additional reactions in these reactive sites. This study utilized Pt/CeO2‐OV catalyst to achieve efficient deuterium doping (98%) of aniline under hydrogen gas‐free condition, while avoiding hydrogenation side reactions. The significance of oxygen vacancies and metal‐catalyst interactions in the catalyst support is demonstrated through experimental characterization. When facing sensitive functional groups, including halogens, the proposed method avoids dehalogenation or hydrogenation of the benzene ring. Osteoporosis is a major public health threat with significant physical, psychosocial, and financial consequences. The calcaneus bone has been used as a measurement site for risk prediction of osteoporosis by noninvasive quantitative ultrasound (QUS). By adding optical contrast to QUS, our previous studies indicate that a combination of photoacoustic (PA) and QUS, that is, PAQUS, provides a novel opportunity to assess the health of human calcaneus. Calibration of the PAQUS system is crucial to realize quantitative and repeatable measurements of the calcaneus. Therefore, a phantom which simulates the optical, ultrasound, and architectural properties of the human calcaneus, for PAQUS system calibration, is required. Additionally, a controllable phantom offers researchers a versatile framework for developing versatile structures, allowing more controlled assessment of how varying bone structures cause defined alterations in PA and QUS signals. In this work, we present the first semi‐anthropomorphic calcaneus phantom for PAQUS. The phantom was developed based on nano computed‐tomography (nano‐CT) and stereolithography 3D printing, aiming to maximize accuracy in the approximation of both trabecular and cortical bone microstructures. Compared with the original digital input calcaneus model from a human cadaveric donor, the printed model achieved accuracies of 71.15% in total structure and 87.21% in bone volume fraction. Inorganic materials including synthetic blood, mineral oil, intralipid, and agar gel were used to model the substitutes of bone marrow and soft tissue, filling and covering the calcaneus phantom. The ultrasound and optical properties of this phantom were measured, and the results were consistent with those measured by a commercialized device and from previous in vivo studies. In addition, a short‐term stability test was conducted for this phantom, demonstrating that the optical and ultrasound properties of the phantom were stable without significant variation over 1 month. This semi‐anthropomorphic calcaneus phantom shows structural, ultrasound, and optical properties similar to those from a human calcaneus in vivo and, thereby, can serve as an effective source for equipment calibration and the comprehensive study of human patients. In order to enhance the carbon emission reduction capability and economy of the microgrid, a capacity optimization configuration method considering laddered carbon trading and demand response is proposed for a grid-connected microgrid consisting of photovoltaic, battery and hydrogen storage devices. Combined with the mathematical model and system structure of each unit in the microgrid, the integrated operation control strategy is determined in this paper. A demand response model containing three load types is developed to reduce the stress on the storage and generation side. A carbon-trading mechanism is introduced into the operating costs to establish a configuration model with annual overall profit and power supply reliability as the optimization objectives. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II is used to optimize the capacity of each unit, and the effectiveness of this model is verified by taking a microgrid in a region in Northwest China as an example to analyze the impacts of ladder carbon trading and demand response on the configuration results and system operation. MoS2 nanomaterials and ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted tremendous interest as the prime electrodes and electrolytes of supercapacitors. However, the corresponding charge storage mechanisms have not yet been clearly understood. Herein, we study the molecular-level energy storage mechanisms of the MoS2 electrode in imidazolium ionic liquid ([BMI+][PF6−]) using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The electric double-layer (EDL) structures of MoS2 electrodes in [BMI+][PF6−] electrolytes are comprehensively studied in terms of number density, MD snapshots, separation coefficient, and ion-electrode interaction energy. Based on this, the electric potential and electric field distributions are calculated by integrating Poisson equations. Importantly, a bell-shaped differential capacitance profile is proposed, different from the U-shaped curve from the conventional Gouy–Chapman theory. Especially, it can be well reproduced by the differential charge density curve in the Helmholtz layer. This indicates that the capacitive behaviors of the MoS2 electrode are primarily determined by the counterion population/structure in the EDL region 5.0 Å from the electrode surface. In the end, ion diffusion coefficients within different interfacial EDL regions are evaluated, revealing that dynamics are significantly suppressed by ~50% in the Helmholtz region. However, the dynamics can be recovered to a bulk state with the ion position 10 Å away from the electrode surface. The as-obtained insights reveal the charge storage mechanisms of MoS2 in ILs, which can provide useful guidance on improving the energy density of MoS2 supercapacitors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
