Objective To explore the construction of a nomogram model with good predictive value for community acquired pneumonia (CAP) in elderly patients using commonly used blood routine indicators in clinical practice. Methods A total of 88 elderly CAP patients and 80 healthy controls in Nanjing Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital from January to December 2022 were enrolled retrospectively. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to screen the independent risk factors of CAP in the elderly, and nomogram model was constructed. ROC curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of nomogram model. Results White blood cell count, red blood cell count, lymphocyte ratio, monocyte ratio, mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width were independent risk factors for CAP in the elderly. Based on this, nomogram model was constructed, and the area under the ROC curve was 0.869 (95%CI: 0.808-0.916). Conclusion The nomogram model constructed based on the clinical blood routine indicators in this study can accurately screen the elderly patients with CAP, assess the risk of CAP for elderly patients, and guide the clinical precise management.

Here, we describe the preparation of bridged ethylene polyethylene oxide (BE‐PEO) surface‐modified silica packing materials for size exclusion chromatography. BE‐PEO surface‐modified silica was hydrolyzed and subsequent 1H nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of hydrolysis products confirmed the successful formation of BE‐PEO bonded surface. Silica particles exhibiting 3 µm diameters and 1000 Å nominal pore diameters were selected as a base material for this work out of the critical need to improve analytical capabilities for the testing of cell and gene therapy drug products. Accelerated high pH aging study revealed significant enhancement in column stability. Multi‐angle light scattering noise measurements showed inordinately lower baseline noise. Moreover, we evaluated the chromatographic performance of BE‐PEO silica‐packed columns through separations of a protein test mixture, DNA ladder, monoclonal antibody‐based therapeutics, and adeno‐associated viruses. BE‐PEO silica columns demonstrated high resolution, high recovery separations that were confirmed to be reproducible and capable of extended column lifetimes and exhibited low ionic and hydrophobic secondary interactions. In summary, BE‐PEO silica particles have yielded a new level of performance, improved base stability, and inherently lower baseline noise. These novel widepore particles will facilitate more sensitive size‐based detection and characterization of large biologics in the form of advanced gene therapy products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cylindrical vector beams (CVBs), being a special kind of beams with spatially variant states of polarizations, are promising in photonics applications, including high-resolution imaging, plasmon excitation, optical trapping, and laser machining. Recently, generating CVBs using metasurfaces has drawn enormous interest owing to their highly designable, multifunctional, and integratable features. However, related studies remain unexplored in the terahertz regime. Here, a generic method for efficiently generating terahertz CVBs carrying orbital angular momentums (OAMs) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated using transmission-type spatial-variant dielectric metasurfaces, which is realized by designing the interference between the two circularly polarized transmission components. This method is based on spin-decoupled phase control allowed by simultaneously manipulating the dynamic phase and geometric phase of each structure, endowing more degree of freedom in designing the vector beams. Two types of metasurfaces which respectively generate polarization-dependent terahertz vector vortex beams (VVBs) and vector Bessel beams (VBBs) are experimentally characterized. The proposed method opens a new window to generate versatile vector beams, providing new capabilities in developing novel, compact, and high-performance devices applicable to broad electromagnetic spectral regimes.
