5. Combined treatment with cetuximab and STA9090 has synergistic anticancer effects on human non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract

Cetuximab (CET), a human murine chimeric IgG monoclonal antibody and an inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), has been shown to be effective in treating various types of cancer. However, its use is hindered by limitations such as resistance development, variability in patient response, side effects, and challenges in biomarker identification. Therefore, CET is often combined with other targeted therapies or chemotherapies to enhance its effectiveness. In this study, we investigate the anticancer effects and underlying mechanisms of the combination of CET, an EGFR inhibitor, and STA9090, an inhibitor of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), in both in vitro and in vivo models of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The results demonstrate significantly stronger effects on NSCLC cells in response to combination therapy than to treatment with either agent alone, indicating that the combination of CET and STA9090 has potential synergistic effects. Additionally, the combination therapy inhibits tumor growth in a xenograft nude mouse model more effectively than treatment with either agent alone, suggesting improved efficacy when used together. Furthermore, the synergistic effects of the combination therapy are likely due to inactivation of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) pathway, which is overly activated in cancer and contributes to tumor growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Consequently, our findings suggest that STA9090 has potent direct antitumor activity and synergizes with CET against NSCLC tumors. It is highly likely that these synergistic effects are mediated through RTK pathway inactivation caused by the combination. Therefore, our findings strongly and consistently support the potential synergistic effect of STA9090, an RTK inhibitor, in combination with EGFR-targeting agents.

16. Strategic Learning Approach for Deploying UAV-provided Wireless Services

Abstract

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) have emerged as a promising technique to rapidly provide wireless services to a group of mobile users simultaneously. The paper aims to address a challenging issue that each user is selfish and may misreport his location or preference for changing the optimal UAV location to be close to himself. Using algorithmic game theory, we study how to determine the final location of a UAV in the 3D space, by ensuring all selfish users' truthfulness in reporting their locations for learning purpose. To minimize the social service cost in this UAV placement game, we design strategyproof mechanisms with the approximation ratios, when comparing to the social optimum. We also study the obnoxious UAV placement game to maximally keep their social utility, where each incumbent user may misreport his location to keep the UAV away from him. Moreover, we present the dual-preference UAV placement game by considering the coexistence of the two groups of users above, where users can misreport both their locations and preference types (favorable or obnoxious) towards the UAV. 36. Notch1-Nrf2 signaling crosstalk provides myocardial protection by reducing ROS formation

Abstract

Both the Notch1 and Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathways have cardioprotective effects, but the role of Notch1-Nrf2 crosstalk in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury is unclear. In this study, we established hypoxia-reoxygenation in neonate rat myocardial cells and employed [gamma]-secretase inhibitor and curcumin to inhibit and activate the Notch1 and Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathways, respectively. We found that the combined action of the Notch1 and Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathways significantly increased cardiomyocyte viability, inhibited cardiomyocyte apoptosis, reduced the formation of reactive oxygen species, and increased antioxidant activities. In conclusion, these findings suggest that Notch1-Nrf2 crosstalk exerts myocardial protection by reducing the formation of reactive oxygen species. In this paper, we study coherent exciton transport of continuous-time quantum walks on star graph. Exact analytical results of the transition probabilities are obtained by means of the Gram-Schmidt orthonormalization of the eigenstates. Our results show that the coherent exciton transport displays perfect revivals and strong localization on the initial node. When the initial excitation starts at the central node, the transport on star graph is equivalent to the transport on a complete graph of the same size., Comment: 6 pages. 43. Coherent exciton transport and trapping on long-range interacting cycles

Abstract

We consider coherent exciton transport modeled by continuous-time quantum walks (CTQWs) on long-range interacting cycles (LRICs), which are constructed by connecting all the two nodes of distance $m$ in the cycle graph. LRIC has a symmetric structure and can be regarded as the extensions of the cycle graph (nearest-neighboring lattice). For small values of $m$, the classical and quantum return probabilities show power law behavior $p(t)\sim t^{-0.5}$ and $\pi(t)\sim t^{-1}$, respectively. However, for large values of $m$, the classical and quantum efficiency scales as $p(t)\sim t^{-1}$ and $\pi(t)\sim t^{-2}$. We give a theoretical explanation of this transition using the method of stationary phase approximation (SPA). In the long time limit, depending on the network size $N$ and parameter $m$, the limiting probability distributions of quantum transport show various patterns. When the network size $N$ is an even number, we find an asymmetric transition probability of quantum transport between the initial node and its opposite node. This asymmetry depends on the precise values of $N$ and $m$. We study the coherent exciton transport on Apollonian networks generated by simple iterative rules. The coherent exciton dynamics is modeled by continuous-time quantum walks and we calculate the transition probabilities between two nodes of the networks. We find that the transport depends on the initial nodes of the excitation. For networks less than the second generation the coherent transport shows perfect revivals when the initial excitation starts at the central node. For networks of higher generation, the transport only shows partial revivals. Moreover, we find that the excitation is most likely to be found at the initial nodes while the coherent transport to other nodes has a very low probability. In the long time limit, the transition probabilities show characteristic patterns with identical values of limiting probabilities. In this paper, we consider the quantum-mechanical phase space patterns on ordered and disordered networks. For ordered networks in which each node is connected to its 2m nearest neighbors (m on either side), the phase space quasi-probability of Wigner function shows various patterns. Abstract

In this paper, we consider continuous-time quantum walks (CTQWs) on one-dimension ring lattice of N nodes in which every node is connected to its 2m nearest neighbors (m on either side). In the framework of the Bloch function ansatz, we calculate the spacetime transition probabilities between two nodes of the lattice. We find that the transport of CTQWs between two different nodes is faster than that of the classical continuous-time random walk (CTRWs). The transport speed, which is defined by the ratio of the shortest path length and propagating time, increases with the connectivity parameter m for both the CTQWs and CTRWs. For fixed parameter m, the transport of CTRWs gets slow with the increase of the shortest distance while the transport (speed) of CTQWs turns out to be a constant value. In the long time limit, depending on the network size N and connectivity parameter m, the limiting probability distributions of CTQWs show various paterns. Abstract

Structural properties of the ship-transport network of China (STNC) are studied in the light of recent investigations of complex networks. STNC is composed of a set of routes and ports located along the sea or river. Network properties including the degree distribution, degree correlations, clustering, shortest path length, centrality and betweenness are studied in different definition of network topology. It is found that geographical constraint plays an important role in the network topology of STNC. We also study the traffic flow of STNC based on the weighted network representation, and demonstrate the weight distribution can be described by power law or exponential function depending on the assumed definition of network topology. Abstract

Recently, random graphs in which vertices are characterized by hidden variables controlling the establishment of edges between pairs of vertices have attracted much attention. Here, we present a specific realization of a class of random network models in which the connection probability between two vertices (i,j) is a specific function of degrees ki and kj. In the framework of the configuration model of random graphs, we find analytical expressions for the degree correlation and clustering as a function of the variance of the desired degree distribution. Abstract

We report the statistical properties of three bus-transport networks (BTN) in three different cities of China. These networks are composed of a set of bus lines and stations serviced by these. Network properties, including the degree distribution, clustering and average path length are studied in different definitions of network topology. We explore scaling laws and correlations that may govern intrinsic features of such networks. Besides, we create a weighted network representation for BTN with lines mapped to nodes and number of common stations to weights between lines. In such a representation, the distributions of degree, strength and weight are investigated.
