Abstract Background and purpose Magnetic resonance imaging is indispensable for the preoperative diagnosis of glioma. This study aimed to investigate the role of the apparent diffusion coefficient values as predictors of survival in patients with gliomas. Methods and materials A retrospective analysis was conducted on 101 patients with gliomas who underwent surgery between 2015 and 2020. Diffusion-weighted MRI was performed before the surgery. The regions of interest were categorized into parenchymal area, non-enhancing peritumoral area, and necrotic or cystic area. All the patients were divided into three subgroups: the parenchyma group, the non-enhancing peritumoral signal abnormality group, and the necrosis or cyst group. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using COX regression. Results In the parenchymal group, Ki67, P53, IDH, and the high or low ADC values were identified as independent prognosticators for disease-free survival, while Ki67, IDH, and the high or low ADC values for overall survival. In the non-enhancing peritumoral signal abnormality group, Ki67, P53, IDH, and the ADC parenchymal area/ADC non−enhancing peritumoral area ratio were identified as independent prognostic factors for disease-free survival, while Ki67, IDH, and the ADC parenchymal area/ADC non−enhancing peritumoral area ratio for overall survival. In the necrosis or cyst group, Ki67 was significantly associated with disease-free survival, while Ki67 and the ADC value of the necrotic or cystic area for overall survival. Conclusions The ADC values, including the ADC value in the parenchymal area, the ADC parenchymal area/ADC non−enhancing peritumoral area ratio, and the ADC value in the necrotic or cystic area, can serve as an efficient and potential index for predicting the survival of patients with glioma.

Addressing the formidable challenges in spatial infrared dim target detection, this paper introduces an advanced detection approach based on the refinement of the YOLOv8 algorithm. In contrast to the conventional YOLOv8, our method achieves remarkable improvements in detection accuracy through several novel strategies. Notably, by incorporating a deformable convolutional module into the YOLOv8 backbone network, our method effectively captures more intricate image features, laying a solid foundation for subsequent feature fusion and detection head predictions. Furthermore, a dedicated small target detection layer, built upon the original model, significantly enhances the model’s capability in recognizing infrared small targets, thereby boosting overall detection performance. Additionally, we utilize the WIoU-v3 as the localization regression loss function, effectively reducing sensitivity to positional errors and leveraging the advantages of multi-attention mechanisms. To enrich the quantity and quality of the spatial infrared dim target dataset, we employ image enhancement techniques to augment the original dataset. Extensive experiments demonstrate the exceptional performance of our method. Specifically, our approach achieves a precision of 95.6%, a recall rate of 94.7%, and a mean average precision (mAP) exceeding 97.4%, representing substantial improvements over the traditional YOLOv8 algorithm. Moreover, our detection speed reaches 59 frames/s, satisfying the requirements for real-time detection. This achievement not only validates the efficacy and superiority of our algorithm in spatial infrared dim target detection, but also offers novel insights and methodologies for research and applications in related fields, holding immense potential for future applications.

BackgroundTumor immunotherapy is an innovative treatment today, but there are limited data on the quality of immunotherapy information on social networks. Dissemination of misinformation through the internet is a major social issue. ObjectiveOur objective was to characterize the quality of information and presence of misinformation about tumor immunotherapy on internet-based videos commonly used by the Chinese population. MethodsUsing the keyword “tumor immunotherapy” in Chinese, we searched TikTok, Tencent, iQIYI, and BiliBili on March 5, 2022. We reviewed the 118 screened videos using the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool—a validated instrument to collect consumer health information. DISCERN quality criteria and the JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Benchmark Criteria were used for assessing the quality and reliability of the health information. The videos’ content was also evaluated. ResultsThe 118 videos about tumor immunotherapy were mostly uploaded by channels dedicated to lectures, health-related animations, and interviews; their median length was 5 minutes, and 79% of them were published in and after 2018. The median understandability and actionability of the videos were 71% and 71%, respectively. However, the quality of information was moderate to poor on the validated DISCERN and JAMA assessments. Only 12 videos contained misinformation (score of >1 out of 5). Videos with a doctor (lectures and interviews) not only were significantly less likely to contain misinformation but also had better quality and a greater forwarding number. Moreover, the results showed that more than half of the videos contain little or no content on the risk factors and management of tumor immunotherapy. Overall, over half of the videos had some or more information on the definition, symptoms, evaluation, and outcomes of tumor immunotherapy. ConclusionsAlthough the quality of immunotherapy information on internet-based videos commonly used by Chinese people is moderate, these videos have less misinformation and better content. Caution must be exercised when using these videos as a source of tumor immunotherapy–related information.

Abstract. Background. The continued spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains an international public health emergency, resulting in a significant global disease burden. The long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans and the long-term prognosis of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after discharge remain unclear. We aimed to assess the quality of life (QoL) and sequelae in patients with COVID-19 after discharge from the hospital by conducting multiple follow-up visits to understand the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 on patients' health and its possible influencing factors. Methods. COVID-19 patients discharged from Huoshenshan Hospital (Wuhan, China) between February 15 and April 5, 2020, were followed up at 6, 9, and 12 months after discharge. They completed questionnaires on postdischarge QoL and sequelae under the guidance of medical staff with professional training. The demographic and clinical characteristics of the COVID-19 patients were analyzed using descriptive statistics. A generalized estimating equation model was used to analyze the QoL-related factors. The χ2 test (or Fisher exact test) and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the sequelae and influencing factors. Results. A total of 175 patients participated in at least 1 follow-up visit, and 120 completed all 3 follow-up visits. Patients diagnosed with severe and critically ill COVID-19 had worse mental conditions (χ2 = 7.653, P = 0.022) than those with the nonsevere type (not severe or critical) and were more likely to feel fatigued (χ2 = 4.836, P = 0.028). Female patients had a higher risk of sleep disturbance (χ2 = 10.026, P = 0.002) and dyspnea (χ2 = 5.672, P = 0.017) and had more difficulty returning to their original work and life (χ2 = 8.922, P = 0.003) than male patients. Patients with diabetes had a worse appetite (χ2 = 4.669, P = 0.031) and were more prone to sleep disturbance (χ2 = 4.417, P = 0.036) after discharge. The proportion of patients with at least 1 sequela increased from 29.76% (50/168) at 6 months to 51.11% (69/135) at 9 months (χ2 = 14.305, P < 0.001). Compared with the nonsevere type, patients diagnosed with severe and critically ill COVID-19 had an odds ratio (OR) of 4.325 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.215–15.401) for memory decline. Female patients had an OR of 4.632 (95% CI, 1.716–12.501) for joint or muscle pain. Patients with hypertension had an OR of 3.014 (95% CI, 1.193–7.615) for joint or muscle pain. Conclusion. One year after discharge, there were still some patients with varying degrees of decline in QoL and sequelae, which occurred in all follow-up visits. Moreover, QoL and sequelae after discharge were related to sex, clinical classification of COVID-19, and underlying diseases.

ObjectiveTo determine the pathogen and phylogenetic characteristics of an uncommon outbreak of recombinant norovirus infection in Daishan County in February 2022.MethodsFluorescence quantitative PCR was used to detect the norovirus in the eight anal swabs collected in the outbreak. In the positive samples， reverse transcription PCR were used to amplify the norovirus. Norovirus sequences were characterized by MEGA7 and Simplot.ResultsNorovirus GⅠ was identified in all eight anal samples. It was further determined to be recombinant norovirus GⅠ.6 ［P11］， with the recombination site at the ORF1-ORF2 junction. The sequence had the highest nucleotide identity （98.75%） to a GⅠ.6［P11］ strain collected in 2018 （GenBank accession number MT357995）.ConclusionAccording to the etiological identification and phylogenetic analysis， this outbreak is confirmed to be caused by the uncommon recombinant norovirus GⅠ.6 ［P11］ in China.

Abstract In cross-country skiing competitions, the choice of pacing strategy is of decisive significance to athletes' performance. A reasonable pacing strategy is essential for athletes to improve their performance. In this paper, the mathematical models of cross-country skiing simulation and pacing optimization are established, including motion model, athlete power output model, and optimization model. The actual competition data of a Chinese athlete in Guyangshu 1.5 km track was compared with the model simulation results. The whole process time error is less than 3%, which verifies the accuracy of the motion and power output model. Gauss pseudo-spectral method is applied to the optimization model. By changing the distribution of athletes' power output, the racing time is minimized under the condition that the total energy output remains unchanged. Compared with the pacing strategy before optimization, the optimized racing time was shortened by 12.6 s, which verifies the effectiveness of the optimization model. Optimized results show that in the first significant uphill section, a recommendation is to use a more conservative strategy, while in the latter half of uphill sections the power output should be increased.

BackgroundMedication adherence is crucial for improving clinical outcomes in the treatment of patients with cancer. The lack of adherence and adverse drug reactions can reduce the effectiveness of cancer therapy including the quality of life. The commonly used intervention methods for medication adherence continue to evolve, and the age of fifth-generation (5G) messaging has arrived. ObjectiveIn this study, we conducted a prospective, pilot randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effect of 5G messaging on medication adherence and clinical outcomes among patients with cancer in China. MethodsThe research population was patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer undergoing pemetrexed chemotherapy who require regular folic acid (FA) and vitamin B12 supplements. The intervention and control groups were assigned to 5G messaging and second-generation (2G) messaging, respectively. The patients’ medication adherence and quality of life were assessed at baseline and 1-month and 3-month time points. Moreover, the chemotherapy-related hematologic or nonhematologic toxicities, as well as the serum levels of FA and vitamin B12, were measured. ResultsOf the 567 patients assessed for eligibility between January and May 2021, a total of 154 (27.2%) patients were included. Overall, 80 were randomized to the control group and 74 to the intervention group. The odds of adherence in the 5G messaging intervention group were significantly higher than the control group at the 1-month (62/69, 90% vs 56/74, 76%; adjusted odds ratio 2.67, 95% CI 1.02-7.71) and 3-month (50/60, 83% vs 48/64, 75%; adjusted odds ratio 2.36, 95% CI 1.00-5.23) time points. Correspondingly, the FA and vitamin B12 serum levels of patients in the 5G messaging group were higher than those of the control group. Regarding hematologic toxicities, only the incidence of leukopenia in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group (25/80, 31% in the control group vs 12/74, 16% in the intervention group; P=.04). There were no differences in nonhematologic toxicities and quality of life between the 2 groups. ConclusionsIn summary, we conclude that compared with conventional 2G text-based messaging, a 5G messaging intervention can better improve medication adherence and clinical outcome among patients with cancer. Pancreatic carcinoma is the leading cause of death among digestive malignancies in China. In particular, there is no breakthrough in prolonging the survival of pancreatic cancer patients with chemical and targeted therapies. Tumor immunotherapy brings opportunities and progress for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Sintilimab is an innovative PD-1 inhibitor which was reported certain clinical benefits in multi-line treatments of advanced pancreatic cancer with gemcitabine. The combination therapy of PD-1 with gemcitabine plus high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in pancreatic cancer has not been reported. Here we report a case of a Chinese old patient diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Two months after sintilimab treatment, the patient occurred severe immune colitis. The patient was diagnosed with immune ureteritis after 8 months of treatment. The immue-related adverse events (irAEs) refined after timely recognition and correct intervention by the clinician and clinical pharmacist. After first-line treatment of sintilimab plus gemcitabine combined with pancreatic HIFU, the patient achieved a remarkable benefit of 11-month progression-free survival (PFS) and 20-month overall survival (OS). The first-line treatment of sintilimab plus gemcitabine combined with HIFU demonstrates a potential therapeutic effect on metastatic pancreatic carcinoma with tolerable adverse reactions.

This paper discusses consensus control of nonlinear coupled parabolic PDE-ODE-based multi-agent systems (PDE-ODEMASs). First, a consensus controller of leaderless PDE-ODEMASs is designed. Based on a Lyapunov-based approach, coupling strengths are obtained for leaderless PDE-ODEMASs to achieve leaderless consensus. Furthermore, a consensus controller in the leader-following PDE-ODEMAS is designed and the corresponding coupling strengths are obtained to ensure the leader-following consensus. Two examples show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Using the largest semi-autogenous grinding mill in China as a model, collision energy was analyzed on the basis of the multi-layer kinematics of the steel balls. First, the kinematic equation of the steel balls was obtained by considering the multi-layer characteristics of the steel balls. Second, the collision energy of the inner-layer steel balls was addressed according to its kinematic characteristics. Finally, the total collision energy per unit time was obtained. Results show that the leaving angle decreases as the mill speed ratio increases and as the radius ratio increases, but the leaving velocity increases linearly. Moreover, a discontinuity point of the tangential collision velocity occurs at an angle factor β = 0, and the angle factor β is divided into two intervals: [−3, 0] and [0, 1.5]. The leaving angles corresponding to a tangential velocity equal to zero are calculated to be 1.185 and 0.7854 rad in the two intervals. In addition, the sum collision velocity increases when β is less than zero, but it decreases sharply above zero. The maximum total collision energy per unit time occurs at 84.2% of the mill speed corresponding to the optimal mill speed ratio.
