6. Structure Stability and Electronic Property for Alkaline-Earth Metals Induced Si(111)-3x2 Surfaces

Abstract

Structural stability and electronic properties of alkaline-earth metals (Ca, Sr, Ba) induced Si(111)-3x2 surfaces have been comprehensively studied by means of ab initio calculations. Adsorption energy and charge density difference calculations show the high structural stability due to the strong chemical bonding. Analysis of electronic band structures and band-decomposed charge density distributions indicates that the third valence band is deriving from top Si and metal atoms, while the top most two valence bands are deriving from the bulk silicon. These results suggest a larger surface band gap of 1.65-1.68 eV, which is good consistent with the recent experimental finding for Sr/Si(111)-3x2 surface. These results reveal a natural explanation for the relevant experimental observation and stimulate further experimental and theoretical exploration on the surface science., Comment: 7 pages , 4 figures

7. Parents' Distress and Demands for Children With Cancer‐Related Cognitive Impairment in Western China: A Qualitative Study.

Abstract

Backgroud: Cancer‐related cognitive impairment is one of the common complications in children with cancer, but our understanding of their experience with cognitive deficits remains limited. From the perspective of parents, this study aimed to explore the distress and demands faced by children with cancer‐related cognitive impairment, to provide references for developing targeted intervention strategies for cancer children. Methods: We used a purposeful sampling method to conduct semi‐structured interviews with the parents of 18 children with cancer‐related cognitive impairment. The transcripts were analyzed using Colaizzi's method. Results: Three categories and 11 subcategories were obtained from the data analysis, including diverse levels of cognitive impairment in children (speech communication difficulties, impaired executive function, attention deficit, and intellectual disability), persistent negative emotions (anxiety and worry, complaints and resentment, negative avoidance and positive experiences after psychological adjustment), multiple needs (need for disease information, need for professional management, and an urgent need for more external support). Conclusion: Parents of children with cancer‐related cognitive impairment face a significant psychological burden, coupled with confusion and numerous inquiries regarding the symptoms and management of their children's cognitive impairment. It is imperative for medical professionals to strengthen the dissemination of information related to cancer‐associated cognitive impairments, while promptly recognizing and intervening in related symptoms. Rational allocation of resources, establishment of targeted support systems, and enhancement of social acceptance may be the key points that policymakers could consider. Abstract

Glycine on Cu(001) is used as an example to illustrate the critical role of molecular polarity and finite temperature effect in self-assembly of biomolecules at a metal surface. A unified picture for glycine self-assembly on Cu(001) is derived based on full polarity compensation considerations, implemented as a generic rule. Temperature plays a non-trivial role: the ground-state structure at 0 K is absent at room temperature, where intermolecular hydrogen bonding overweighs competing molecule-substrate interactions. The unique p(2X4) structure from the rule is proved as the most stable one by ab initio molecular dynamics at room temperature, and its STM images and anisotropic free-electron-like dispersion are in excellent agreement with experiments. Abstract

Inclacumab is a recombinant, fully human, immunoglobulin IgG4 monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to P-selectin. Initially discovered and developed by Roche through phase 2 clinical studies in peripheral arterial disease and coronary artery disease, inclacumab has been in-licensed by Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT) as a potential treatment to reduce the frequency of vaso-occlusive crises in individuals with sickle cell disease. GBT sought to demonstrate the analytical comparability between material produced by Roche and material produced by GBT to ensure that no meaningful differences in identity, safety, purity, potency, or bioavailability exist between the GBT and Roche lots. Inclacumab samples produced by GBT were found to be comparable to the Roche v0.2 inclacumab samples based on (1) comparable primary and higher-order structures; (2) comparable purity profiles; (3) comparable potency, in vitro functional activities, and in vivo plasma exposures and pharmacokinetic profiles; and (4) comparable degradation patterns and kinetics under forced degradation conditions. Based on the design of this comparability study and the results obtained, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the changes to the manufacturing process and gave clearance for GBT to proceed with phase 3 clinical trials.

Abstract

The brain neuromechanism in maintenance hemodialysis patients (MHD) with cognitive impairment (CI) remains unclear. The study aimed to probe the relationship between spontaneous brain activity and CI by using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data. Here, 55 MHD patients with CI and 28 healthy controls were recruited. For baseline data, qualitative data were compared between groups using the χ2 test; quantitative data were compared between groups using the independent samples t-test, ANOVA test, Mann–Whitney U-test, or Kruskal–Wallis test. Comparisons of ALFF/fALFF/ReHo values among the three groups were calculated by using the DPABI toolbox, and then analyzing the correlation with clinical variables. p <.05 was considered a statistically significant difference. Furthermore, back propagation neural network (BPNN) was utilized to predict cognitive function. Compared with the MHD-NCI group, the patients with MHD-CI had more severe anemia and higher urea nitrogen levels, lower mALFF values in the left postcentral gyrus, lower mfALFF values in the left inferior temporal gyrus, and greater mALFF values in the right caudate nucleus (p <.05). The above-altered indicators were correlated with MOCA scores. BPNN prediction models indicated that the diagnostic efficacy of the model which inputs were hemoglobin, urea nitrogen, and mALFF value in the left central posterior gyrus was optimal (R2 = 0.8054), validation cohort (R2 = 0.7328). The rs-fMRI can reveal the neurophysiological mechanism of cognitive impairment in MHD patients. In addition, it can serve as a neuroimaging marker for diagnosing and evaluating cognitive impairment in MHD patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Perovskite chromate SrCrO3 containing Cr4+ ions shows anomalous electronic states and physical properties, which are believed to be related to the bonding instability, but this has not been confirmed directly in experiments up to now. In order to address this issue, the crystal structure and electronic structure of SrCrO3 are investigated by using transmission electron microscopy and first-principles calculations. The results demonstrate that there is no fourfold rotational symmetry in the selected area electron diffraction patterns along the three main zone axes of SrCrO3, which is inconsistent with an expected cubic structure. Moreover, the orientation-dependent electron energy-loss spectra demonstrate a clear correlation between the dissimilar spectra and the anisotropic effects derived from the crystal structure, and first-principles calculations support the experimental results. All this strongly supports the bonding instability of ambient pressure and temperature phase of SrCrO3 and highlights the important influence of bonding fluctuation on its electronic structure and transport properties. Abstract

In the real world, there are many different kinds of sources, such as light, sound, and gas, distributed randomly over an area. Source search can be carried out by robotic system in applications. However, for a single robot, the multisource search has been receiving relatively little attention compared to single-source search. For multisource task searching, a single robot has a high travel cost and is easy to trap a source which has been located before. In order to overcome these shortages, two multisource search algorithms inspired by the foraging behavior of Physarum polycephalum are proposed in this paper. First, a Physarum-inspired Strategy (PS) is designed based on the gradient climbing characteristic of Physarum polycephalum during foraging. The PS is simple and effective to let a mobile robot traverse all sources. Then, an extension algorithm named Physarum-inspired Decision-making Strategy (PDS) is proposed based on PS. Therein the synthetical field gradient model is established by introducing decision-making factor to obtain more accurate gradient information estimation. The PDS also introduces an obstacle avoidance model. Various simulation results obtained in the multisource environments show that the performance of PDS is better than other algorithms.
