Exogenous gibberellic acid was applied to regulate fruit growth of grapes to acquire high quality seedless berries. The vascular bundles provide the pathway of water and nutrient transport into the fruit and play an important role in berry growth and sugar accumulation. Therefore, changes in berry size and quality are closely related to the structure and function of the vascular tissue. In this study, 10-year-old “Shine Muscat” grape vines were treated with GA3 in grapevine production. Based on previous research and experimental environmental conditions, four treatments were applied: elongating cluster（5 mg L−1 GA3 on Apr. 28）+ seedless（25 mg L−1 GA3 on May. 24）+ expanding（50 mg L−1 GA3 on Jun. 7） (T1), seedless（25 mg L−1 GA3 on May. 24）+ expanding（50 mg L−1 GA3 on Jun. 7） (T2), expanding（50 mg L−1 GA3 on Jun. 7） (T3) and water (CK). Compared to CK, all fruits treated with GA3 had greater berry size. In addition, GA3 treated grapes had greater vascular bundle areas, including the areas of both phloem and xylem, as well as a greater number of vessels compared to control fruit. During the first rapid growth stage, water transport into the grape was rapid and did not differ among treatments. During veraison, the water transport rate among the four treatments differed, and the rank of speed was T2>T3>CK>T1. Therefore, we found that GA3 treatment can significantly promote the differentiation of vascular tissues and improve water transport capacity and phloem sugar unloading; T2 promoted the development of vascular bundles, enhanced water transport speed and phloem sugar unloading of fruit after veraison, and increased berry size.

The insect gut bacteria play important roles in insect development and growth, such as immune defense, nutrient metabolism, regulating insect adaptations for plants, etc. The Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) is a destructive invasive pest that mainly feeds on solanaceae plants. However, the relationship between gut microflora and host adaption of T. absoluta remains to be known. In this study, we first compared the survival adaptability of T. absoluta feeding with two host plants (tomatoes and potatoes). The T. absoluta completed the generation cycle by feeding on the leaves of both plants. However, the larvae feeding on tomato leaves have shorter larvae durations, longer adult durations, and a greater number of egg production per female. After Single Molecular Real-Time (SMRT) sequencing, according to the LDA Effect Size (LEfSe) analysis, the gut bacterial biomarker of T. absoluta fed on tomato was Enterobacter cloacae and the gut bacterial biomarker of T. absoluta fed on potatoes was Staphylococcus gallinarum and Enterococcus gallinarum. Furthermore, a total of 6 and 7 culturable bacteria were isolated from the guts of tomato- and potato-treated T. absoluta, respectively. However, the isolated strains included bacterial biomarkers E. cloacae and S. gallinarum but not E. gallinarum. In addition, different stains bacterial biomarkers on T. absoluta feeding selection were also studied. E. cloacae enhanced the host preference of the SLTA (T. absoluta of tomato strain) for tomato but had no impact on STTA (T. absoluta of potato strain). S. gallinarum improved the host preference of STTA to a potato but did not affect SLTA. The results showed that the gut bacteria of T. absoluta were affected by exposure to different host plants, and the bacterial biomarkers played an important role in host adaptability. This study not only deepens our understanding of gut bacteria-mediated insect-plant interactions but also provides theoretical support for the development of environmentally friendly and effective agricultural pest control methods.

Growth-regulating factors (GRFs) are plant-specific transcription factors with vital roles in multiple biological processes. Although GRFs have been identified in various plant species, a comprehensive analysis of GRF genes in peach (Prunus persica) has not yet been reported. In this study, 10 PpGRF genes distributed on 6 chromosomes were identified in peach genome and their properties were analyzed systematically. Expression pattern analysis suggested that most PpGRFs were preferentially expressed in young tissues. Multiple types of cis-elements were observed in PpGRF promoters, and PpGRFs positively respond to ultraviolet B-rays (UVB) and gibberellin (GA) treatments at the transcriptional level. Also, the content of gibberellic acid 3 (GA3) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) changed significantly after UVB irradiation. PpGRF 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 positive responses to UVB and GA3 signals. The evolutionary patterns and expression profiles of PpGRFs detected in this study increase understanding of the important roles in peach.

Nitrogen (N) in different forms has been demonstrated to play significant roles in plants. However, little is known about molybdenum (Mo) effects on N absorption and utilization in grapevine seedlings grown under different N sources. The present study used a sand culture system to analyze the impact of Mo application (0 μM; 1 μM) on N absorption and utilization in grapevine (Vitislabrusca × V. vinifera ‘Shine Muscat’ (rootstock 3309 m)) young potted seedlings under different N sources (NO3−, NH4NO3 and NH4+). The different N forms and Mo application significantly influenced dry matter accumulation, and root architecture and activity. The effects of Mo on total N content followed the order of (NH4NO3 > NO3− > NH4+). Moreover, Mo and N induced VvMOT1 and VvNRT1.1 expression synergistically. Mo supply altered the utilization of NO3−, NO2−, and NH4+ in grapevines under different N sources. NH4NO3 showed the highest effect while NH4+ the least. Furthermore, the 15N-labeling experiment showed that the 15N content in shoot and root and the 15N-use efficiency were the highest after Mo application under NH4NO3 source, indicating the synergistic effects of Mo with the co-application of NO3− and NH4+ sources. The study’s findings provide insights on Mo and N fertilizer utilization for cultivation and production practices in fruits.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION: Data on the efficacy of physical exercise interventions for individuals with gynecologic cancer are limited and discordant. The purpose of this review was to determine the benefits of exercise interventions in this population. LITERATURE SEARCH: The PubMed®, Web of Science, Embase® (Ovid), and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched for studies published from January 1, 2010, to November 9, 2022. DATA EVALUATION: 12 randomized controlled trials were included. A quantitative synthesis method was used to investigate the effects of exercise interventions on individuals with gynecologic cancer. SYNTHESIS: The findings indicate that physical exercise interventions may have beneficial effects on the fatigue, depression, and health-related quality of life of this patient population. However, because of the small group of studies available, the evidence must be regarded as preliminary. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Clinicians and oncology nurses should recommend and refer individuals with gynecologic cancer to clinic- or community-based physical exercise programs. In this study, 1626 patients with severe craniocerebral trauma were assessed by Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS, 886 patients of 3-5 score and 740 of 6-8 score). Patients were divided into 2 groups. Ninety hundred and eleven patients (496 of 3-5 score and 415 of 6-8 score) underwent hemisphere calvarial bone flap decompression with auxiliary mild hypothermia (experiment group), and 715 patients (390 of 3-5 score and 325 of 6-8 score) underwent traditional frontal, temporal, parietal large traumatic craniotomy (control group). After operation the treatment of 2 groups was basically the same. Compared with control group, the intracranial pressure of experiment group on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th days after surgery decreased significantly (P < 0.05, for all); the consciousness recovery time was significantly shorter (P < 0.05, for all); the prognosis after 3 months was better (P < 0.05, for all). Hemisphere calvarial bone flap decompression with auxiliary mild hypothermia treatment could significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality, and improve the quality of life and prognosis of patients with severe craniocerebral trauma.
