Abstract

Highly coherent wave is favorable for applications in which phase retrieval is necessary, yet a high coherent wave is prone to encounter Rayleigh fading phenomenon as it passes through a medium of random scatters. As an exemplary case, phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (\Phi-OTDR) utilizes coherent interference of backscattering light along a fiber to achieve ultra-sensitive acoustic sensing, but sensing locations with fading won't be functional. Apart from the sensing domain, fading is also ubiquitous in optical imaging and wireless telecommunication, therefore it is of great interest. In this paper, we theoretically describe and experimentally verify how the fading phenomena in one-dimension optical scatters will be suppressed with arbitrary number of independent probing channels. We initially theoretically explained why fading would cause severe noise in the demodulated phase of \Phi-OTDR; then M-degree summation of incoherent scattered light-waves is studied for the purpose of eliminating fading. Finally, the gain of the retrieved phase signal-to-noise-ratio and its fluctuations were analytically derived and experimentally verified. 34. Enhanced clinical outcomes with radiotherapy in diagnostically challenging intracranial plasmacytomas: Analysis of 190 cases

Abstract

Background: Intracranial plasmacytomas are rare tumors arising from plasma cells with approximately half of the cases progressing to multiple myeloma (MM). However, there is a lack of comprehensive clinical cohort analysis on the clinical and pathological features, progression, and outcomes of intracranial plasmacytomas. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 190 cases was conducted, combining data from 38 cases in a single institution and 152 cases from the literature. Patient demographics, clinical presentations, tumor locations, imaging features, surgical treatments, and follow-up outcomes were collected and analyzed. Survival analysis and Cox regression analysis were performed to identify prognostic factors. Results: A total of 190 intracranial plasmacytoma patients with an average age of 55.4 years were included in the study. The preoperative misdiagnosis ratio was high at 55.3%, and 59.7% of the tumors affected the calvaria convexity, compared to 40.3% located at the skull base. Resection and biopsy were achieved in 72.4% and 27.6% patients, respectively. Among them, 34.2% (65/190) of patients were initially diagnosed with MM with intracranial plasmacytoma as their first presentation (MM-IPFP), while 63.2% (120/190) of patients were diagnosed with solitary intracranial plasmacytoma (SIP), including 61 extramedullary plasmacytomas and 59 solitary bone plasmacytomas. In the SIP group, 22.4% (24/107) of patients experienced disease progression leading to the development of MM during a median follow-up time of 42.6 months (range 1-230 months). Multivariate analysis unveiled that radiotherapy (HR, 0.05; 95% CI, 0.00-0.87; p = 0.04), not surgery, was a protective prognostic factor for overall survival in MM-IPFP patients. Comparison between the SIP progression group and non-progression group revealed a significant difference of Ki-67 index (non-progression vs. SIP progression, 8.82% +/- 7.03 vs. 16.5% +/- 10.5, p < 0.05). 39. Case Retrieval Strategy of Turning Process Based on Grey Relational Analysis.

Abstract

To solve the problem of long response time when users obtain suitable cutting parameters through the Internet based platform, a case-based reasoning framework is proposed. Specifically, a Hamming distance and Euclidean distance combined method is designed to measure the similarity of case features which have both numeric and category properties. In addition, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and entropy weight method are integrated to provide features weight, where both user preferences and comprehensive impact of the index have been concerned. Grey relation analysis is used to obtain the similarity of a new problem and alternative cases. Finally, a platform is also developed on Visual Studio 2015, and a case study is demonstrated to verify the practicality and efficiency of the proposed method. This method can obtain cutting parameters which is suitable without iterative calculation. Compared with the traditional PSO (Particle swarm optimization algorithm) and GA (Genetic algorithm), it can obtain faster response speed. This method can provide ideas for selecting processing parameters in industrial production. While guaranteeing the characteristic information is similar, this approach can select processing parameters which is the most appropriate for the production process and a lot of time can be saved. Abstract

Summary: CTCF is a predominant insulator protein required for three-dimensional chromatin organization. However, the roles of its insulation of enhancers in a 3D nuclear organization have not been fully explained. Here, we found that the CTCF DNA-binding domain (DBD) forms dynamic self-interacting clusters. Strikingly, CTCF DBD clusters were found to incorporate other insulator proteins but are not coenriched with transcriptional activators in the nucleus. This property is not observed in other domains of CTCF or the DBDs of other transcription factors. Moreover, endogenous CTCF shows a phenotype consistent with the DBD by forming small protein clusters and interacting with CTCF motif arrays that have fewer transcriptional activators bound. Our results reveal an interesting phenomenon in which CTCF DBD interacts with insulator proteins and selectively localizes to nuclear positions with lower concentrations of transcriptional activators, providing insights into the insulation function of CTCF.
