Abstract Aiming at the three-body contact problem of mechanical rough surface containing wet coal dust interface, the three-body contact model of rough surface containing wet coal dust interface is constructed by comprehensively considering the contact deformation of rough surface and contact characteristics of wet coal dust, and based on the crushing theory. By analysing the contact force, load-bearing particle size and adjacent contact angle thresholds of the wet coal dust layer, the force chain identification criterion is formulated. Finally, quantitative calculations of the force chain characteristics are performed to reveal the effect of different initial porosities on the three-body contact stiffness, which is verified experimentally. The results of the study show that the average contact force of the wet coal dust layer can be used as the force chain contact force threshold, the average particle size can be used as the force chain particle size threshold, and the force chain angle threshold is determined by the particle coordination number. As the initial porosity decreases, the number, length and stiffness of force chains in the wet coal dust layer increase significantly, and the stiffness reaches a maximum value of 2.007 × 108 pa/m at the moment of downward pressure to stabilisation, while the trend of force chain bending varies in the opposite direction, and its minimum bending degree decreases to 20°. The maximum relative error between the simulation and experimental results of three-body contact stiffness is 9.64%, which proves the accuracy of the force chain identification criterion and the quantitative calculation of three-body contact stiffness by force chain.

Ecological vulnerability assessment is crucial for environment protection, ecological restoration and resource utilization. However, many former studies have limitations in the indicator system of the assessment, which were not comparable for different types of ecologically vulnerable areas. It is difficult to apply directly to the ecological vulnerability assessment of different types and in various regions. Aiming to solve these problems, the study proposed a well-established and comprehensive indicator system for ecological vulnerability assessment and conducted ecological vulnerability assessment application of five types of typical ecologically vulnerable areas of China based on remote sensing, meteorological, geographic and other data. The results show that the average EVIs value of Zhangbei County ranging from 0.525 to 0.559 are the highest among the five research areas during the four periods, followed by Zoige region and Xiamen bay. However, the region with the lowest average EVI value varies. In 2005 and 2015, it was Taihe County, while in 2010 and 2020, it was the Sanjiangyuan region. The variation of average EVIs in the five typical areas presents slight fluctuation and remains generally stable from 2005 to 2020. It indicates that the environmental protection measures and projects undertaken by the Chinese government in recent years have had a striking effect, curbing the trend of ecological environment deterioration.

Abstract Background Rotator cuff tendinopathy (RCT) is a widespread musculoskeletal disorder and a primary cause of shoulder pain and limited function. The resulting pain and limited functionality have a detrimental impact on the overall quality of life. The purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review of the effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) for RCT. Methods The literature search was conducted on the following databases from inception to February 20, 2024: PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, MEDLINE, EMBASE, EBSCO, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were checked to identify the potential studies exploring the effect of ESWT for the treatment of Rotator cuff tendinopathy (Calcification or non-calcification), control group for sham, other treatments (including placebo), without restriction of date, language. Two researchers independently screened literature, extracted data, evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies, and performed meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3 software. Results A total of 16 RCTs with 1093 patients were included. Abstract Introduction Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) has made notable advancements in addressing myopic astigmatism. Nevertheless, the potential impact of cyclotorsion on surgical outcomes cannot be overlooked. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of cyclotorsion compensation technology in SMILE surgery for the correction of myopic astigmatism, examining its influence on postoperative visual quality. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted. A comprehensive literature search was performed using databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, EBSCO, Scopus, CNKI, VIP, and Wan Fang. Studies meeting the criteria were selected and included. Data were independently extracted by three authors. Clinical outcome parameters were analyzed using Review Manager version 5.3. Results This meta-analysis included ten studies. The results showed that, compared with the control group (cyclotorsion compensation was not performed in SMILE), the following indicators in the cyclotorsion compensation group were: residual astigmatism (RA) [weighted mean difference (MD) = 0.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) + 0.26 to + 1.19, P = 0.002], spherical equivalent (SE) (MD = 1.99, 95% CI + 0.77 to + 3.21, P = 0.001), coma (MD = −0.06, 95% CI −0.08 to −0.04, P

ABSTRACTDue to the strong penetrability, long-wavelength synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can provide an opportunity to reconstruct the three-dimensional structure of the penetrable media. SAR tomography (TomoSAR) technology can resynthesize aperture perpendicular to the slant-range direction and then obtain the tomographic profile consisting of power distribution of different heights, providing a powerful technical tool for reconstructing the three-dimensional structure of the penetrable ground objects. As an emerging technology, it is different from the traditional interferometric SAR (InSAR) technology and has advantages in reconstructing the three-dimensional structure of the illuminated media. Over the past two decades, many TomoSAR methods have been proposed to improve the vertical resolution, aiming to distinguish the locations of different scatters in the unit pixel. In order to cope with the forest mission of European Space Agency (ESA) that is designed to provide P-band SAR measurements to determine the amount of biomass and carbon stored in forests, it is necessary to systematically evaluate the performance of forest height and underlying topography inversion using TomoSAR technology. In this paper, we adopt three typical algorithms, namely, Capon, Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), and Compressed Sensing (CS), to evaluate the performance in forest height and underlying topography inversion. The P-band airborne full-polarization (FP) SAR data of Lopè National Park in the AfriSAR campaign implemented by ESA in 2016 is adopted to verify the experiment. Furthermore, we explore the effects of different baseline designs and filter methods on the reconstruction of the tomographic profile. The results show that a better tomographic profile can be obtained by using Hamming window filter and Capon algorithm in uniform baseline distribution and a certain number of acquisitions. Compared with LiDAR results, the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of forest height and underlying topography obtained by Capon algorithm is 2.17 m and 1.58 m, which performs the best among the three algorithms.

Inflammation is a complex physiological phenomenon, which is the body's defensive response, but abnormal inflammation can have adverse effects, and many diseases are related to the inflammatory response. AMPK, as a key sensor of cellular energy status, plays a crucial role in regulating cellular energy homeostasis and glycolipid metabolism. In recent years, the anti-inflammation effect of AMPK and related signalling cascade has begun to enter everyone's field of vision – not least the impact on metabolic diseases. A great number of studies have shown that anti-inflammatory drugs work through AMPK and related pathways.Herein, this article summarises recent advances in compounds that show anti-inflammatory effects by activating AMPK and attempts to comment on them.

Multiple unmanned aerial vehicle (multi-UAV) confrontation is becoming an increasingly important combat mode in intelligent air combat. The confrontation highly relies on the intelligent collaboration and real-time decision-making of the UAVs. Thus, a decomposed and prioritized experience replay (PER)-based multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (DP-MADDPG) algorithm has been proposed in this paper for the moving and attacking decisions of UAVs. Specifically, the confrontation is formulated as a partially observable Markov game. To solve the problem, the DP-MADDPG algorithm is proposed by integrating the decomposed and PER mechanisms into the traditional MADDPG. To overcome the technical challenges of the convergence to a local optimum and a single dominant policy, the decomposed mechanism is applied to modify the MADDPG framework with local and global dual critic networks. Furthermore, to improve the convergence rate of the MADDPG training process, the PER mechanism is utilized to optimize the sampling efficiency from the experience replay buffer. Simulations have been conducted based on the Multi-agent Combat Arena (MaCA) platform, wherein the traditional MADDPG and independent learning DDPG (ILDDPG) algorithms are benchmarks. Simulation results indicate that the proposed DP-MADDPG improves the convergence rate and the convergent reward value. During confrontations against the vanilla distance-prioritized rule-empowered and intelligent ILDDPG-empowered blue parties, the DP-MADDPG-empowered red party can improve the win rate to 96% and 80.5%, respectively.

BackgroundRotator cuff injury (RCI) is a common musculoskeletal ailment and a major cause of shoulder pain and limited functionality. The ensuing pain and restricted movement significantly impact overall quality of life. This study aims to systematically review the effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on RCI.MethodsThis protocol follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols. A literature search, spanning inception to November 1, 2023, will include databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, MEDLINE, EMBASE, EBSCO, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) to identify ESWT studies for RCI treatment. Excluding retrospectives, bias risk will be assessed with the Cochrane tool. Two researchers will independently screen, extract data, and evaluate bias risk. Revman 5.3 software will be used for data analysis.ResultsThis study aims to objectively and comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness and safety of randomized controlled trials of ESWT in the treatment of RCI, and analyze in detail the effect of ESWT in the treatment of RCI. Results will be analyzed using the Pain Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Constant-Murley score, University of California Los Angeles score (UCLA), and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons form (ASES). If applicable, subgroup analysis will also be performed to divide patients into groups according to the energy level of ESWT, the time of intervention, and the degree of tearing of RCI. Finally, the results are submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.Discussion and conclusionThere is existing evidence suggesting that ESWT may contribute to the amelioration of pain and functional limitations associated with Rotator Cuff Injury (RCI). This systematic review aims to update, consolidate, and critically evaluate relevant evidence on the effects of ESWT for RCI. The anticipated outcomes may serve as a valuable reference for clinical ESWT practices, covering treatment methods, timing, and intensity. Moreover, this review aspires to provide high-quality evidence addressing the impact of ESWT on RCI-related pain. Simultaneously, the findings of this systematic review are poised to offer guidance to clinicians and rehabilitation therapists. As an essential ecological barrier in the north of China, the grassland degradation situation in the Xilin Gol League of Inner Mongolia has remained severe in recent years. Based on data spanning from 2010 to 2022, this study utilizes a set of ten indicators, encompassing altitude, temperature, precipitation, wind speed, FVC, LAI, FRAR, NPP, ET, and above-ground biomass, to construct a Bayesian model for assessing ecological risks associated with vegetation change in the Xilin Gol League. In the case of the most crucial parameter, above-ground biomass, we integrate spectral bands, vegetation indices, and ground-truth data, employing the Random Forest algorithm to estimate the above-ground biomass in the Xilin Gol League. The study further applies the Mann-Kendall trend test and Sen's slope estimation to analyze changes in this parameter and employs it as an indicator for assessing grassland degradation. The results showed that (1) Overall, the risk level decreases gradually from the west to the east and aligns with the grassland types of the Xilin Gol League. (2) In terms of spatial and temporal distribution, medium and high-risk areas are primarily located in the western region of the Xilin Gol League, showing a distinct westward shift from 2010 to 2022. (3) Areas with higher grassland degradation risk are characterized by lower altitudes, higher temperatures, less precipitation, lower vegetation coverage, and reduced potential evapotranspiration. (4) Under the pressures of both climate warming and vegetation change, there has been a significant shift in grassland degradation risk levels in the Xilin Gol League. The application of the Bayesian model effectively reveals intricate causal relationships among various variables, such as climate, terrain, and vegetation dynamics. This study could provide guidance for the prevention and control of grassland degradation in the Xilin Gol League.

Abstract Background Both Kinesio Tape (KT) and Compression Sleeves (CS) can relieve Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) to a certain extent, but there is no study report on the difference in the effectiveness of the KT and CS whether the effect is better when used at the same time. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of KT and CS on the recovery of muscle soreness, isokinetic strength, and body fatigue after DOMS. Methods In this single-blinded randomized controlled trial, 32 participants aged 18 to 24 years were randomly divided into Control group (CG), Compression Sleeves group (CSG), Kinesio Tape group (KTG), Compression Sleeves and Kinesio Tape group (CSKTG), between October 2021 and January 2022. KTG uses Kinesio Tape, CSG wears Compression Sleeves, and CSKTG uses both Compression Sleeves and Kinesio Tape. Outcomes were performed at five-time points (baseline, 0 h, 24 h, 48 h, 72 h), Primary outcome was pain level Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and Secondary outcomes were Interleukin 6, Peak Torque/Body Weight, Work Fatigue. Statistical analyses were performed using the repeated measures analysis of variance method. Setting: Laboratory. Summary: CircRNAs play multiple roles in a variety of cellular processes. We found that Circ-CDYL is highly enriched in early HCC plasma exosomes. Moreover, EpCAM+ HCC cells and exosomes had significant Circ-CDYL levels. We postulated that Circ-CDYL-enriched and EpCAM-positive exosomes would function as liver tumor-initiating exosomes (LTi-Exos). As predicted, intercellular transfer of LTi-Exos activates the HDGF-PI3K-AKT-mTOR and HIF1AN-NOTCH2 axes in recipient cells, promoting malignancy. Upstream, we found that the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification of Circ-CDYL exerted its action in HCC cells through a dual mechanism. First, it stimulated back-splicing processes via YTHDC1 to promote Circ-CDYL biogenesis. Second, it facilitates the active sorting of Circ-CDYL into exosomes via hnRNPA2/B1. Clinically, the combination of LTi-Exos and plasma alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) provides a promising early diagnostic biomarker for HCC with an AUC of 0.896. This study highlights the effect and mechanism by which m6A modification promotes hepatocarcinogenesis via modulation of the tumor microenvironment by LTi-Exos.

For the difficult problem that the shearer drum load is difficult to be detected and perceived directly, a shearer drum load indirect estimation measurement method and technique is proposed and invented. Based on the structural characteristics of the rocker arm, the basic rod system skeleton of the rocker arm is extracted. Based on the transfer route of the drum load on the rocker arm, the feasibility of using the rocker arm pin shaft load for drum load prediction is analyzed, and the correlation mechanics equation of load from the drum to the rocker arm pin shaft is constructed. To address the statically indeterminate problem in the equation, the Lagrange multiplier is introduced to construct the energy function of the rocker rod system skeleton. Based on the principle of minimum complementary energy and solving the extreme value of energy function, the statically indeterminate equation is transformed into the statically determinate equation, and a rough prediction model of drum load based on the force of the rocker arm hinged ear pin shaft is derived, and the maximum relative error of the model is 25.15 %. To address the low prediction accuracy of the model due to the dynamic characteristics of the drum rocker arm, the drum load is derived from the rocker arm hinged ear pin shaft load and the rough prediction model as input, and the experimentally measured drum load as output. The bp neural network error correction model is constructed, and the accurate estimation and perception of the drum load are realized by the prediction model and the bp neural network correction model. Finally, the accuracy of the prediction algorithm is verified by experiments. The results show that after correction by bp neural network, the average error of the drum three directional force is 0.14 × 104N ∼ 0.55 × 104N, the mean square error is 0.18 × 104N ∼ 0.65 × 104N, and the relative error is 3.99 %∼10.12 %. The average error of the drum three directional moment is 0.31 × 104N·m ∼ 0.40 × 104N·m, the mean square error is 0.16 × 104N·m ∼ 0.50 × 104N·m, and the relative error is 2.04 %∼11.44 %. The accuracy of drum load prediction is higher than 11.44 % in all cases. The research results can provide theoretical and technical support for intelligent shearer design, development, and healthy operation and maintenance.

Abstract Background Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ), a cofactor for bacterial dehydrogenases, is associated with biological processes such as mitochondriogenesis, reproduction, growth, and aging. Due to the extremely high cost of chemical synthesis and low yield of microbial synthesis, the election of effective strains and the development of dynamic fermentation strategies for enhancing PQQ production are meaningful movements to meet the large-scale industrial requirements. Results A high-titer PQQ-producing mutant strain, Hyphomicrobium denitrificans FJNU-A26, was obtained by integrating ARTP (atmospheric and room‑temperature plasma) mutagenesis, adaptive laboratory evolution and high-throughput screening strategies. Afterward, the systematic optimization of the fermentation medium was conducted using a one-factor-at-a-time strategy and response surface methodology to increase the PQQ concentration from 1.02 to 1.37 g/L. The transcriptional analysis using qRT-PCR revealed that the expression of genes involved in PQQ biosynthesis were significantly upregulated when the ARTP-ALE-derived mutant was applied. Furthermore, a novel two-stage pH control strategy was introduced to address the inconsistent effects of the pH value on cell growth and PQQ production. These combined strategies led to a 148% increase in the PQQ concentration compared with that of the initial strain FJNU-6, reaching 1.52 g/L with a yield of 40.3 mg/g DCW after 144 h of fed-batch fermentation in a 5-L fermenter. Conclusion The characteristics above suggest that FJNU-A26 represents an effective candidate as an industrial PQQ producer, and the integrated strategies can be readily extended to other microorganisms for the large-scale production of PQQ.

Abstract To analyse the stability of a digging anchor machine under digging conditions, the dynamics model of the anchor machine and the interaction mechanics model between its tracks and the roadway floor are constructed with a Sandvik MB670-1 digging anchor machine in the context of the Zhang Jiamao 5–2 coal seam of the Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group. The discrete element method (DEM) and multibody dynamics (MBD) two-way coupling algorithm is used to simulate the cutting process of a full coal seam and coal rock containing gangue by using a digging anchor machine in a roadway. The changes in the cutting depth of the digging anchor machine drum, the sliding distance of the track and the stress‒strain pattern of the roadway floor are obtained. Finally, through shear slip testing, the stress distribution and deformation pattern of the roadway floor under different grouser parameters of the digging anchor machine track shoe, as well as the wear characteristics of the track shoe, are obtained. The results of this study can provide a theoretical basis for the control and reliability of the digging anchor machine and the life fatigue prediction of its tracks.

Abstract Background Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevailing skin disease in childhood. Several studies have appraised probiotics as a strategy for treating AD. We aimed to assess the validity of probiotics in the treatment of AD in children. Methods We systematically searched the PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, EBSCO, Web of Science and Cochrane library databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that assessed the effect of probiotic treatment on SCORAD value in pediatric patients with AD compared with a placebo group between 1 January 2010 and 1 January 2023. The risk of bias and the certainty of evidence were assessed using Cochrane ROB 2.0. Results A total of 10 outcomes from 9 RCTs involving 1000 patients were included. Three of these outcomes were analyzed as dichotomous variables in 373 patients. The other seven were analyzed for continuous variables in 627 patients. A meta‐analysis of the random‐effect model of the dichotomous variables demonstrated no significant difference between the probiotic and control groups [OR = 1.75, 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.70, 4.35), p = 0.23, I2 = 68%]. A meta‐analysis of the random‐effect model of continuous variables demonstrated significant differences between the probiotic and control groups [MD = −4.24, 95% CI (−7.78, −0.71), p = 0.002, I2 = 71%]. Subgroup analysis of continuous variables showed that the effects of children's age, treatment duration and probiotic species on the SCORAD value were not statistically significant. Conclusion Evidence on the improvement effect of probiotics on pediatric patients with AD is limited. This study showed that single‐strain probiotic treatment exerts a positive effect on AD. Restricted to the quantity and quality of incorporated studies, these conclusions have yet to be validated by high‐quality studies.

Long-term exposure to high concentrations of fine particles can cause irreversible damage to people’s health. Therefore, it is of extreme significance to conduct large-scale continuous spatial fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentration prediction for air pollution prevention and control in China. The distribution of PM2.5 ground monitoring stations in China is uneven with a larger number of stations in southeastern China, while the number of ground monitoring sites is also insufficient for air quality control. Remote sensing technology can obtain information quickly and macroscopically. Therefore, it is possible to predict PM2.5 concentration based on multi-source remote sensing data. Our study took China as the research area, using the Pearson correlation coefficient and GeoDetector to select auxiliary variables. In addition, a long short-term memory neural network and random forest regression model were established for PM2.5 concentration estimation. We finally selected the random forest regression model (R2 = 0.93, RMSE = 4.59 μg m−3) as our prediction model by the model evaluation index. The PM2.5 concentration distribution across China in 2021 was estimated, and then the influence factors of high-value regions were explored. It is clear that PM2.5 concentration is not only related to the local geographical and meteorological conditions, but also closely related to economic and social development.

Grassland desertification stands as an ecological concern globally. It is crucial for desertification prevention and control to comprehend the variation in area and severity of desertified grassland (DGL), clarify the intensities of conversion among DGLs of different desertification levels, and explore the spatial and temporal driving factors of desertification. In this study, a Desertification Difference Index (DDI) model was constructed based on albedo-EVI to extract desertification information. Subsequently, intensity analysis, the Geo-detector model, and correlation analysis were applied to analyze the dynamics and driving factors of desertification. The results showed the following: (1) Spatially, the DGL in Xilingol exhibited a zonal distribution. Temporally, the degree of DGL decreased, with the proportion of severely and moderately desertified areas decreasing from 51.77% in 2000 to 37.23% in 2020, while the proportion of nondesertified and healthy areas increased from 17.85% in 2000 to 37.40% in 2020; (2) Transition intensities among different desertification levels were more intense during 2000–2012, stabilizing during 2012–2020; (3) Meteorological factors and soil conditions primarily drive the spatial distribution of DDI, with evapotranspiration exhibiting the most significant influence (q-value of 0.83), while human activities dominate interannual DDI variations. This study provides insights into the conversion patterns among different desertification levels and the divergent driving forces shaping desertification in both spatial and temporal dimensions in Xilingol.

The γ-Al2O3 support (nanosphere and nanoflake) was used to support Ag nanoparticles and applied in C3H8-SCR to remove NOx. Ag/Al2O3-flake exhibited superior catalytic activity than Ag/Al2O3-sphere in C3H8-SCR. It is found that Al2O3-flake rich in Al octacoordinated ions promoted more Agnδ+ species to disperse on Ag/Al2O3-flake than Ag/Al2O3-sphere. Agnδ+ species could strengthen the low-temperature catalytic activity for HC-SCR while Ag metal particles were unbeneficial since they could promote complete oxidation of hydrocarbon. This was the first time to explore the remarkable effect of Al2O3 intrinsic properties on catalytic activity of alumina-supported catalyst for HC-SCR from the perspective of uniform morphology. Environmental implication: The number of transport vehicles has increased dramatically during the past decades due to global economic growth. The accompanying concern is the huge consumption of fossil fuels, for example, gasoline and diesel, which speeds up global warming. Internal combustion engines produce toxic emissions, where NOx forms nitric acid in the atmosphere, reacts with HCs to form which causes acidification of land and lakes. Currently, it is urgent to develop a leading deNOx technique for the after-treatment of commercial engine-powered vehicles to meet stringent emission legislations.

Background: Chronic pruritus (CP) is a common and aggravating symptom associated with skin and systemic diseases. Although clinical reports suggest that Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is safe and effective in Chronic pruritus treatment, evidence to prove it is lacking. Therefore, in this review, we evaluated the therapeutic effects and safety of Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of Chronic pruritus.Methods: Nine databases were searched for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from the inception of the database to 20 April 2022. The randomized controlled trials that compared the treatment of Chinese herbal medicine or a combination of Chinese herbal medicine and conventional western medicine treatment (WM) with western medicine treatment intervention for patients with Chronic pruritus were selected. We evaluated the effects of treatment with Chinese herbal medicine on the degree of pruritus, the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score, response rate, recurrence rate, and incidence of adverse events in patients with Chronic pruritus. The risk of bias in each trial was evaluated using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. The RevMan software (version 5.3) was used for performing meta-analyses to determine the comparative effects.Results: Twenty-four randomized controlled trials were included, compared with placebo, moderate-quality evidence from one study showed that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with reduced visual analogue scale (VAS) (MD: −2.08; 95% CI = −2.34 to −1.82). Compared with western medicine treatment, low-to moderate-quality evidence from 8 studies indicated that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with reduced visual analogue scale, 4 studies indicated that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with reduced Dermatology Life Quality Index (MD = −1.80, 95% CI = −2.98 to −.62), and 7 studies indicated that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with improved Effective rate (RR: 1.26; 95% CI = 1.19–1.34). Compared with combination of Chinese herbal medicine and western medicine treatment, 16 studies indicated that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with reduced visual analogue scale, 4 studies indicated that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with reduced Dermatology Life Quality Index (MD = −2.37, 95% CI = −2.61 to −2.13), and 13 studies indicated that Chinese herbal medicine was associated with improved Effective rate (RR: 1.28; 95% CI = 1.21–1.36). No significant difference in the occurrence of adverse events in using Chinese herbal medicine or western medicine treatment was reported.Conclusion: The efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine used with or without western medicine treatment was better than western medicine treatment in treating chronic pruritus. However, only a few good studies are available regarding Chronic pruritus, and thus, high-quality studies are necessary to validate the conclusions of this study.

Abstract Background Low back pain during pregnancy affects the normal daily activities of pregnant women to a certain extent. Current studies have shown that Kinesio Taping (KT) may be a treatment for low back pain during pregnancy, but there is still a lack of key evidence. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of KT in the treatment of low back pain during pregnancy. Methods PubMed, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, Scopus, Embase, Wanfang Data, CNKI, and VIP databases were searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of the efficacy of KT intervention on low back pain in women during pregnancy. The retrieval time limit is from the establishment of the database to April 2021. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan5.3 software. Results A total of 7 RCTs were included, including 444 patients. Abstract With regard to the severe vertical and pitching vibration of shearer in actual working conditions, the vertical–pitch coupled dynamics model of shearer with 13 degrees of freedom was established using multi-body dynamics theory. Based on the elasticity theory, Hertz contact and collision dynamics, the connection stiffness model of shear body and the traction section, the rocker arm with clearance and the traction section, the support stiffness models for the guide shoe and the smooth shoe, and the stiffness characteristics model of the rocker arm were constructed respectively. Taking into account the convergence of solution process and the reliability of results, a modified drum load was proposed as the external excitation of the system and the dynamic characteristics of key parts of shearer under different working conditions were analyzed. The numerical models were validated against the vibration responses of the whole machine and critical components of shearer obtained from mechanical test under different operating conditions. The research results provide theoretical basis for the structure optimization and process parameter optimization of shearer.

Abstract Aiming at the problem of severe vibration and abnormal wear and tear of various components in coal shearer under slant-cutting conditions, a non-linear dynamics model with 13 degrees of freedom for a coal shearer under slant-cutting conditions is developed using vibration mechanics and multi-body dynamics theory, and the characteristics of the slide shoes-middle groove contact, the ranging arm-haulage unit connection with gaps and the guidance sliding boots-pin rail multi-surface contact with gaps are described based on three-dimensional fractal theory and Hertz contact theory. Based on Huco's law, the ranging arm and the hydraulic rod are assumed to be flexible beams, the rigidity characteristics of the ranging arm itself, the connection characteristics of the haulage unit and the fuselage are described, a drum correction load with a traction speed correction factor is proposed as the external excitation of the system, and the model is solved and analyzed. The research results show that the change of traction speed has a greater influence on the vibration swing angle and displacement of the front drum, front ranging arm and front walking unit, and the vibration swing angle and displacement of the three increase with the increase of traction speed, while the change of coalface hardness coefficient has less influence on the vibration displacement of the key components of the coal shearer. Under the working parameters of v = 3 m/min and f = 3, the swing angle and displacement of the front ranging arm and front drum fluctuate in the ranges of − 0.4–0.1 rad and – 15–15 mm respectively; the vibration acceleration is – 300–300 rad/s2 and – 200–200 mm/s2 respectively, the main vibration frequencies are 16.63 Hz and 12.14 Hz respectively, and finally the results are verified by experimental methods.

Summary: Through a three-step study that relies on biomarker discovery, training, and validation, we identified a set of five exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) that can be used to evaluate the risk of gallbladder carcinoma (GBC), including miR-552-3p, miR-581, miR-4433a-3p, miR-496, and miR-203b-3p. When validated in 102 GBC patients and 112 chronic cholecystitis patients from multiple medical centers, the AUC of this combinatorial biomarker was 0.905, with a sensitivity of 81.37% and a specificity of 86.61%. The performance of this biomarker is superior to that of the standard biomarkers CA199 and CEA and is suited for GBC early diagnosis. The multi-clinicopathological features and prognosis of GBC patients were significantly associated with this biomarker. After building a miRNA-target gene regulation network, cell functions and signaling pathways regulated by these five miRNAs were examined. This biomarker signature can be used in the development of a noninvasive tool for GBC diagnosis, screening and prognosis prediction.

Focal adhesion kinase (FAK, also known as PTK2) is a tyrosine kinase that regulates integrin and growth factor signaling pathways and is involved in the migration, proliferation and survival of cancer cells. FAK is a promising target for cancer treatment. Many small molecule FAK inhibitors have been identified and proven in both preclinical and clinical studies to be effective inhibitors of tumor growth and metastasis. There are many signaling pathways, such as those involving FAK, Src, AKT, MAPK, PI3K, and EGFR/HER-2, that provide survival signals in cancer cells. Dual inhibitors that simultaneously block FAK and another factor can significantly improve efficacy and overcome some of the shortcomings of single-target inhibitors, including drug resistance. In this review, the antitumor mechanisms and research status of dual inhibitors of FAK and other targets, such as Pyk2, IGF-IR, ALK, VEGFR-3, JAK2, EGFR, S6K1, and HDAC2, are summarized, providing new ideas for the development of effective FAK dual-target preparations.

Although numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a relationship between environmental factors and chronic diseases, there is a lack of comprehensive population health vulnerability assessment studies from the perspective of environmental exposure, population sensitivity and adaptation on a regional scale. To address this gap, this study focused on six high-mortality chronic diseases in China and constructed an exposure–sensitivity–adaptability framework-based index system using multivariate data. The constructed system effectively estimated health vulnerability for the chronic diseases. The R-square between vulnerability and mortality rates for respiratory diseases and malignant tumors exceeded 0.7 and was around 0.6 for the other four chronic diseases. In 2020, Chongqing exhibited the highest vulnerability to respiratory diseases. For heart diseases, vulnerability values exceeding 0.5 were observed mainly in northern and northeastern provinces. Vulnerability values above 0.5 were observed in Jiangsu, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shandong and Liaoning for cerebrovascular diseases and malignant tumors. Shanghai had the highest vulnerability to endogenous metabolic diseases, and Tibet exhibited the highest vulnerability to digestive system diseases. The main related factor analysis results show that high temperature and humidity, severe temperature fluctuations, serious air pollution, high proportion of middle-aged and elderly population, as well as high consumption of aquatic products, red meat and eggs increased health vulnerability, while increasing per capita educational resources helped reduce vulnerability.

The PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathway is a viable target for cancer treatment and can be used to treat various malignant tumours, including follicular lymphoma and breast cancer. Both enzymes, PI3K and mTOR, are critical in this pathway. Hence, in recent years, an array of inhibitors targeting these two targets have been studied, showing dual PI3K/mTOR inhibition compared with single targeting small molecule inhibitors. Inhibitors not only inhibit cell proliferation but also promote cell apoptosis. These inhibitors show high potency and little drug resistance even at low doses, suggesting that PI3K/mTOR inhibitors are promising cancer drugs. Background: In recent years, with the development of medical science and artificial intelligence, research on rehabilitation robots has gained more and more attention, for nearly 10 years in the Web of Science database by journal of rehabilitation robot-related research literature analysis, to parse and track rehabilitation robot research hotspot and front, and provide some guidance for future research.Methods: This study employed computer retrieval of rehabilitation robot-related research published in the core data collection of the Web of Science database from 2010 to 2020, using CiteSpace 5.7 visualization software. The hotspots and frontiers of rehabilitation robot research are analyzed from the aspects of high-influence countries or regions, institutions, authors, high-frequency keywords, and emergent words.Results: A total of 3,194 articles were included. In recent years, the research on rehabilitation robots has been continuously hot, and the annual publication of relevant literature has shown a trend of steady growth. The United States ranked first with 819 papers, and China ranked second with 603 papers. Northwestern University ranked first with 161 publications. R. Riener, a professor at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, ranked as the first author with 48 articles. The Journal of Neural Engineering and Rehabilitation has the most published research, with 211 publications. In the past 10 years, research has focused on intelligent control, task analysis, and the learning, performance, and reliability of rehabilitation robots to realize the natural and precise interaction between humans and machines. Research on neural rehabilitation robots, brain–computer interface, virtual reality, flexible wearables, task analysis, and exoskeletons has attracted more and more attention.Conclusions: At present, the brain–computer interface, virtual reality, flexible wearables, task analysis, and exoskeleton rehabilitation robots are the research trends and hotspots. Future research should focus on the application of machine learning (ML), dimensionality reduction, and feature engineering technologies in the research and development of rehabilitation robots to improve the speed and accuracy of algorithms. To achieve wide application and commercialization, future rehabilitation robots should also develop toward mass production and low cost. We should pay attention to the functional needs of patients, strengthen multidisciplinary communication and cooperation, and promote rehabilitation robots to better serve the rehabilitation medical field.

BackgroundPregnancy-related low back pain (PLBP) affects the daily living activities of pregnant women, even leading to fetal agitation and threatened abortion. Kinesio taping (KT) can improve the circulation of blood and provide elastic supports, which is a reliable method to treat low back pain. At present, although many studies have been published on the effects of KT on PLBP, the results are inconsistent, and some studies even report that KT does not affect PLBP. there is still a lack of high-level clinical evidence for the treatment of PLBP with KT. Therefore, this study proposes a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis of published Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of KT for PLBP.MethodsThis protocol is guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols. We will search the following database sources of the RCTs: PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI), Chinese Science, and the Wanfang Database. From the establishment of the database to April 2021. The retrieval word adopts the combination of theme words and free words. Take "Kinesiotape, Tape Athletic, Orthotic Tape, Athletic Tape, Pregnancy, Pregnancies, Gestation, low back pain" as a term for retrieval. Two independent investigators will conduct an electronic literature search, study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment to summarize and evaluate the efficacy of KT in the treatment of PLBP. Retrospective trials are not included, and the risk of bias will be assessed using the Cochrane bias risk tool. All data analysis will be conducted using Revman5.3 software.ResultsQuality outcomes in systematic review studies depend on inclusion and search criteria to obtain high-quality data, as well as how the data are processed and interpreted. Among the results, this study will objectively and comprehensively evaluate the efficacy and safety of the randomized controlled trial of KT in the treatment of PLBP, and make a detailed analysis of the effect of KT in the treatment of PLBP. The results will be analyzed by the Visual Analogue Scale of Pain and the Roland Morris Dysfunction Questionnaire. If applicable, a subgroup analysis will also be performed, which will be grouped according to the duration of pregnancy, grade of pain, etc. Finally, the results are submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication.ConclusionBased on the results, this study will analyze and summarize the effect of KT on improving PLBP. It includes whether KT can improve the pain and lumbar function of PLBP, or it has adverse effects and reactions on pregnant women, then analysis and interpretation of other related issues. BackgroundGenu varus (GV) is a common deformity characterized by leg bending, which seriously threatens human health. At present, there is no definite conclusion to explain the cause of genu varus. The purpose of this study is to systematically review and meta-analysis the effectiveness and scientific basis of the clinical efficacy of customized orthopedic insoles on genu varus and hope to provide a reference for future research in this field.MethodsThe following electronic databases will be searched from inception to January 2022: Pubmed, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Weipu, Wanfang Data, and CNKI. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were collected to examine the effect of lateral wedge-shaped orthopedic insole on patients with genu varus. We will consider inclusion, select high-quality articles for data extraction and analysis, and summarize the intervention effect of lateral wedge orthotic insoles on patients with genu varus. Two reviewers will screen titles, abstracts, and full texts independently according to inclusion criteria; Data extraction and risk of bias assessment were performed in the included studies. We will use a hierarchy of recommended assessment, development, and assessment methods to assess the overall certainty of the evidence and report findings accordingly. Gross primary productivity (GPP) is an important parameter that represents the productivity of vegetation and responses to various ecological environments. Using the Mann–Kendall methods, Pearson correlation, and the Geodetector, this study investigated the spatiotemporal variation and driving factors of GPP from 2000 to 2020. The results showed that (1) in terms of spatial distribution, GPP showed a trend of “low-high-low” regions, with low values for grassland and arable land and a high value for forest land. The growth trend is fast in forest areas, while the growth trend is not obvious in cultivated areas. The regions with significant growth accounted for 68.73% of the whole region. (2) The whole region shows a growth rate of 2.07 g C∙m−2∙yr−1, showing obvious seasonality, with a slow growth trend in spring and autumn and a fast growth trend in summer. (3) The driving factors of GPP spatial differentiation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region were land surface temperature, land use type, and nighttime light data, while precipitation and downward surface shortwave radiation show no strong explanatory power for the spatial differentiation of GPP, which means that these two factors have less driving force on the spatial differentiation of GPP. The interaction of LUCC with the other factors presents two-factor enhancement, while the LST interaction with the other three factors presents non-linear enhancement. This study could provide a theoretical basis for the sustainable development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used in electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage stations (ESS). However, combustion and explosion accidents during the thermal runaway (TR) process limit its further applications. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the uncontrolled TR exothermic reaction for safe battery system design. In this study, different LIBs are tested by lateral heating in a closed experimental chamber filled with nitrogen. Moreover, the relevant thermal characteristic parameters, gas composition, and deflagration limit during the battery TR process are calculated and compared. Results indicate that the TR behavior of NCM batteries is more severe than that of LFP batteries, and the TR reactions becomes more severe with the increase of energy density. Under the inert atmosphere of nitrogen, the primarily generated gases are H2, CO, CO2, and hydrocarbons. The TR gas deflagration limits and characteristic parameter calculations of different cathode materials are refined and summarized, guiding safe battery design and battery selection for power systems.

The combination of natural environment changes and human activities affects the growth of grasslands. In order to quantitatively assess the causes of spatial and temporal variation of grasslands in Xilingol, this study assessed the spatial and temporal evolution patterns of grassland health based on MOD13A1 long time series Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data from 2000–2019 using trend analysis. The geodetector model was used to explore the dominant drivers of spatial variation in grassland NDVI, combined with 34 factors covering natural environmental changes and human disturbances over the same period. The results show that the grasslands of Xilingol showed an overall recovery trend from 2000 to 2019, with an average annual NDVI growth rate of 0.0028/a, a monthly increasing rate of 0.0005/month, and 68.06% of the grassland at an average recovery level. Moisture-dominated natural climate change factors, such as Growing Season Precipitation (Prep2), Annual Mean Water Vapor Pressure (WVP), and Annual Mean Relative Humidity (RH), were the underlying cause of grassland health changes during the study period, with the highest explanatory factor being growing season precipitation (q value of 0.59 on a multi-year average). The influence of primary production value among human activities was greater, and the explanatory factor of tertiary production value showed an increasing trend. The interactions among natural and anthropogenic factors significantly enhances their explanatory credibility for NDVI, with the type of interaction dominated by the two-factor enhancement. Risk detection of the top 10 dominant drivers in terms of q statistic were carried out to obtain the threshold range of each driver in the high zone of grassland NDVI, which can provide a scientific reference for the sustainable restoration of grassland.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a fatal chronic progressive respiratory disease, characterized by continuous scarring of the lung parenchyma, leading to respiratory failure and death. The incidence of PF has increased over time. There are drugs, yet, there are some limitations. Hence, it is of importance to find new therapies and new drugs to replace the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. In recent years, there have been a great number of research reports on the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine polysaccharides in various system fields. Among them, the treatment of PF has also gained extensive attention. This review summarized the source of polysaccharides, the drug activity of traditional Chinese medicine, and the protective effects on targets of Pulmonary fibrosis. We hope it can inspire researchers to design and develop polysaccharides, serving as a reference for potential clinical therapeutic drugs.

The design and synthesis of robust sintering-resistant nanocatalysts for high-temperature oxidation reactions remains challenging, even though the strategy of metal-support interactions has been extensively used. Here, the authors demonstrate an alternative strategy for designing robust nanocatalysts through a sintering-resistant support.

Tang Luo Ning (TLN), a traditional Chinese compound prescription, has been used clinically to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in China. However, the exact mechanisms remain unclear. The objective of this study is to unravel the effects of TLN on mitochondrial dynamics of DPN in streptozotocin-induced rat models and Schwann cells cultured in 150 mM glucose. Mitochondrial function was determined by Ca2+ and ATP levels of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DPN rats and mitochondria structure, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and mtDNA of high glucose incubated SCs. Mitochondrial dynamics protein including mitofusin 1 (Mfn1), mitofusin 2 (Mfn2), optic atrophy 1 (Opa1), and dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) were investigated using Western blot or immunofluorescence. Myelin basic protein (MBP), myelin protein zero (MPZ), and sex-determining region Y (SRY)-box 10 (Sox10) were measured to represent schwannopathy. Our results showed that TLN increased ATP levels (0.38 of model, 0.69 of HTLN, 0.61 of LTLN, P＜0.01; 0.52 of 150 mM glucose, 1.00 of 10% TLN, P＜0.01, 0.94 of 1% TLN, P＜0.05), MMP (0.56 of 150 mM glucose, P＜0.01, 0.75 of 10% TLN, P＜0.05, 0.83 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), and mtDNA (0.32 of 150 mM glucose, 0.43 of 10% TLN, P＜0.01) while decreased Ca2+ (1.54 of model, 1.06 of HTLN, 0.96 of LTLN, P＜0.01) to improve mitochondrial function in vivo and in vitro. TLN helps maintain balance of mitochondrial dynamics: it reduces the mitochondria number (1.60 of 150 mM glucose, 1.10 of 10% TLN, P＜0.01) and increases the mitochondria coverage (0.51 of 150 mM glucose, 0.80 of 10% TLN, 0.87 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), mitochondrial network size (0.51 of 150 mM glucose, 0.95 of 10% TLN, 0.94 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), and branch length (0.63 of 150 mM glucose, P＜0.01, 0.73 of 10% TLN, P＜0.05, 0.78 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01). Further, mitochondrial dynamics–related Mfn1 (0.47 of model, 0.82 of HTLN, 0.77 of LTLN, P＜0.01; 0.42 of 150 mM glucose, 0.56 of 10% TLN, 0.57 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), Mfn2 (0.40 of model, 0.84 of HTLN, 0.63 of LTLN, P＜0.01; 0.46 of 150 mM glucose, 1.40 of 10% TLN, 1.40 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), and Opa1 (0.58 of model, 0.71 of HTLN, 0.90 of LTLN, P＜0.01; 0.69 of 150 mM glucose, 0.96 of 10% TLN, 0.98 of 1% TLN, P＜0.05) were increased, while Drp1 (1.39 of model, 0.96 of HTLN, 1.18 of LTLN, P＜0.01; 1.70 of 150 mM glucose, 1.20 of 10% TLN, 1.10 of 1% TLN, P＜0.05), phosphorylated Drp1 (2.61 of model, 1.44 of HTLN, P＜0.05; 2.80 of 150 mM glucose, 1.50 of 10% TLN, 1.30 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), and Drp1 located in mitochondria (1.80 of 150 mM glucose, 1.00 of 10% TLN, P＜0.05) were decreased after treatment with TLN. Additionally, TLN improved schwannopathy by increasing MBP (0.50 of model, 1.05 of HTLN, 0.94 of HTLN, P＜0.01; 0.60 of 150 mM glucose, 0.78 of 10% TLN, P＜0.01, 0.72 of 1% TLN, P＜0.05), Sox101 (0.41 of model, 0.99 of LTLN, P＜0.01; 0.48 of 150 mM glucose, 0.65 of 10% TLN, P＜0.05, 0.69 of 1% TLN, P＜0.01), and MPZ (0.48 of model, 0.66 of HTLN, 0.55 of HTLN, P＜0.01; 0.60 of 150 mM glucose, 0.78 of 10% TLN, P＜0.01, 0.75 of 1% TLN, P＜0.05) expressions. In conclusion, our study indicated that TLN’s function on DPN may link to the improvement of the mitochondrial dynamics, which provides scientific evidence for the clinical application.

Smoothness and discontinuous (SD) oscillator is a nonlinear oscillator with the variable frequency, whose frequency can be varied with the smoothing parameter. However, how to adjust the smoothing parameter has not been solved in the actual device. In this paper, the shape memory alloy (SMA) is introduced into the SD oscillator to form the SMA-SD oscillator to adjust the smoothing parameters. Combining the SMA-SD oscillator with MRF, a nonlinear dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) with variable frequency and damping is designed. The structure and control principle of the designed DVA is studied to achieve the two variable characteristics simultaneously by adjusting the current intensity. Numerical results on a two-degree-of-freedom coupled system show that the proposed DVA can adapt to different working conditions only by adjusting the current intensity.

The large area estimation of forest canopy closure (FCC) using remotely sensed data is of high interest in monitoring forest changes and forest health, as well as in assessing forest ecological services. The accurate estimation of FCC over the regional or global scale is challenging due to the difficulty of sample acquisition and the slow processing efficiency of large amounts of remote sensing data. To address this issue, we developed a novel bounding envelope methodology based on vegetation indices (BEVIs) for determining vegetation and bare soil endmembers using the normalized differences vegetation index (NDVI), modified bare soil index (MBSI), and bare soil index (BSI) derived from Landsat 8 OLI and Sentinel-2 image within the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, then combined the NDVI with the dimidiate pixel model (DPM), one of the most commonly used spectral-based unmixing methods, to map the FCC distribution over an area of more than 90,000 km2. The key processing was the determination of the threshold parameter in BEVIs that characterizes the spectral boundary of vegetation and soil endmembers. The results demonstrated that when the threshold equals 0.1, the extraction accuracy of vegetation and bare soil endmembers is the highest with the threshold range given as (0, 0.3), and the estimated spatial distribution of FCC using both Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 images were consistent, that is, the area with high canopy density was mainly distributed in the western mountainous region of Chifeng city. The verification was carried out using independent field plots. The proposed approach yielded reliable results when the Landsat 8 data were used (R2 = 0.6, RMSE = 0.13, and 1-rRMSE = 80%), and the accuracy was further improved using Sentinel-2 images with higher spatial resolution (R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 0.09, and 1-rRMSE = 86%). The findings demonstrate that the proposed method is portable among sensors with similar spectral wavebands, and can assist in mapping FCC at a regional scale while using multispectral satellite imagery.

Flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) have been gradually deployed in diverse application scenarios, ranging from civilian to military. However, the high-speed mobility of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and dynamically changing topology has led to critical challenges for the stability of communications in FANETs. To overcome the technical challenges, an Improved Weighted and Location-based Clustering (IWLC) scheme is proposed for FANET performance enhancement, under the constraints of network resources. Specifically, a location-based K-means++ clustering algorithm is first developed to set up the initial UAV clusters. Subsequently, a weighted summation-based cluster head selection algorithm is proposed. In the algorithm, the remaining energy ratio, adaptive node degree, relative mobility, and average distance are adopted as the selection criteria, considering the influence of different physical factors. Moreover, an efficient cluster maintenance algorithm is proposed to keep updating the UAV clusters. The simulation results indicate that the proposed IWLC scheme significantly enhances the performance of the packet delivery ratio, network lifetime, cluster head changing ratio, and energy consumption, compared to the benchmark clustering methods in the literature.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) can be converted into 2-pyrrolidone, an intermediate in the synthesis of nylon 4 and agrochemicals, which has great potential for application in the chemical industry. The main aim of this work was to construct a simple and efficient process for industrial production of GABA from L-glutamic acid (L-Glu) by whole-cell bioconversion. The gene encoding glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) from Lactococcus lactis FJNUGA01 was overexpressed using the most available vector in Escherichia coli, pET-28a. GABA production was enhanced by optimizing the concentration of the catalyst isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactoside (IPTG), induction temperature and induction time. After optimization, GABA production reached 98.4 g L−1 with 96 mol% conversion within 6 h was achieved by whole-cell conversion using the cells induced with 1 mmol L−1 IPTG for 12 h at 30 °C. Furthermore, when the initial concentration of L-Glu was adjusted, 204.12 g L−1 GABA with 34 g L−1 h−1 productivity was reached using 2 mol L−1 L-Glu as the substrate. During the 6 h whole-cell bioconversion process, almost all L-Glu was converted to GABA with a conversion efficiency of ∼99%. The high conversion efficiency and high productivity made the GABA purification occur downstream, and the whole process is more simple and economical for industrial application.

Abstract Background Asthma is characterized by chronic airway inflammation, leading to structura1 changes in the airway, collectively termed airway remodeling. Airway remodeling is thought to contribute to airway hyper responsiveness and irreversible airflow limitation. The combination of Herba Epimedii (HE) and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi (FLL) decoction and the systemic administration of glucocorticoids (GC) had a synergistic inhibitory action on airway inflammation in the asthmatic model rats. However, the effects of the combination on airway remodeling have not been studied and compared. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the co-administration of combined extracts of HE and FLL with inhaled GC (budesonide) on airway remodeling in the rat asthmatic model induced by ovalbumin (OVA). Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were sensitized to intraperitoneal OVA followed by repetitive OVA challenge for 7 weeks. Treatments included extracts of HE and FLL (Extracts for short, 100 mg/kg by gastric perfusion), budesonide (1 mg budesonide suspension in 50 ml sterile physiological saline, 3 rats in an ultrasonic nebulizer by nebulized inhabation with a flow of 1.6 ml/min for 30 min), and co-administration of extracts of HE and FLL with budesonide (Co-administration for short) for 4 weeks. Lung histomorphometry and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cell count were assessed 24 h after the final OVA challenge. Levels of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5 and IgE were measured by ELISA. Expressions of Collagen I and Collagen III were tested by immunohistology. Expressions of transforming growth factor (TGF) -β1, TGF-β2 and Smads mRNA were measured by quantitative real-time PCR. Results Extracts, budesonide and Co-administration significantly reduced allergen-induced increases in the serum levels of IL-4, IL-5 and IgE, the number of eosinophils in BALF, goblet cell hyperplasia, Collagen III integral optical density (IOD) and the mRNA expression of TGF-β2 and Smad2. Extracts and Co-administration could depress the IOD level of Collagen I and the positive area of Collagen I and Collagen III. Budesonide and Co-administration significantly alleviated the thickening of airway wall. Only Co-administration significantly decreased collagen deposition according to the morphometry of Masson’s-stained lung sections, the thickening of airway smooth muscle layer, the number of lymphocytes in BALF and the mRNA expression of TGF-β1 and Smad3, and this was associated with a significant increase in levels of Smad7 mRNA. Conclusions The findings suggested that the combination of budesonide and the herbal extracts had a better synergistic effect on airway remodeling in OVA-reduced asthma rats than the single use of budesonide.

Abstract Prolonged hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress have been demonstrated to play a key role in progression of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). PERK/ Nrf2 pathway plays a predominant role in oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress which is associated with cell survival. This study examined the modulation of the PERK/Nrf2 pathway and apoptosis by a traditional Chinese medicine Tangluoning (TLN) in streptozotocin-induced DPN rat models and the effects of serum TLN on the PERK/Nrf2 pathway, apoptosis, intracellular reactive oxygen species and mitochondrial membrane potential in Schwann cells cultured in 150 mM glucose. It is found that TLN attenuated oxidative and ER stress and apoptosis through the PERK/Nrf2 pathway by upregulating p-PERK, Nrf2/ARE pathways and downregulating the CHOP-related apoptosis pathways in the experimental DPN models both in vivo and in vitro.

Accurate information on tree species is in high demand for forestry management and further investigations on biodiversity and environmental monitoring. Over regional or large areas, distinguishing tree species at high resolutions faces the challenges of a lack of representative features and computational power. A novel methodology was proposed to delineate the explicit spatial distribution of six dominant tree species (Pinus tabulaeformis, Quercus mongolia, Betula spp., Populus spp., Larix spp., and Armeniaca sibirica) and one residual class at 10 m resolution. Their spatial patterns were analyzed over an area covering over 90,000 km2 using the analysis-ready large volume of multisensor imagery within the Google Earth engine (GEE) platform afterwards. Random forest algorithm built into GEE was used together with the 20th and 80th percentiles of multitemporal features extracted from Sentinel-1/2, and topographic features. The composition of tree species in natural forests and plantations at the city and county-level were performed in detail afterwards. The classification achieved a reliable accuracy (77.5% overall accuracy, 0.71 kappa), and the spatial distribution revealed that plantations (Pinus tabulaeformis, Populus spp., Larix spp., and Armeniaca sibirica) outnumber natural forests (Quercus mongolia and Betula spp.) by 6% and were mainly concentrated in the northern and southern regions. Arhorchin had the largest forest area of over 4500 km2, while Hexingten and Aohan ranked first in natural forest and plantation area. Additionally, the class proportion of the number of tree species in Karqin and Ningcheng was more balanced. We suggest focusing more on the suitable areas modeling for tree species using species’ distribution models and environmental factors based on the classification results rather than field survey plots in further studies.

Three-degree-of-freedom coupled system of vehicle, beam, and smooth-and-discontinuous absorber is constructed to detect the application of smooth-and-discontinuous absorber in vibration reduction of beam subjected to an infinite series of moving vehicles. Smooth-and-discontinuous absorber can be linear absorber or nonlinear one depending on the value of the smoothness parameter. The moving vehicles are simplified as an infinite series of moving spring masses. The amplitude–frequency response functions of the system are obtained using a series of elliptic integrals of the first and second kind. Furthermore, power flow approach is used to detect the effectiveness of smooth-and-discontinuous absorber with parameter variation. The results show that smooth-and-discontinuous absorber can adapt itself to effectively reduce the vibration energy of beam subjected to an infinite series of moving spring masses, which broaden the application of smooth-and-discontinuous absorber in engineering.

A non-smooth cold roll system of rolling mill is studied to reveal the bifurcation of the piecewise-smooth and discontinuous system. To examine the influence of the parameters on the dynamics, the bifurcation diagram is constructed when it is unperturbed. Hamilton phase diagrams of the non-smooth system are detected, which differ significantly from the ones obtained in the smooth system. Non-smooth homoclinic, heteroclinic, and periodic orbits are determined, which depend on the classical heteroclinic periodic orbits, periodic orbits, and a necessary condition. A extended Melnikov function is employed to obtain the criteria for the non-smooth homoclinic bifurcation in this class of piecewise-smooth and discontinuous system, which implies that the existence of homoclinic bifurcation arises from the breaking of homoclinic orbits under the perturbation of damping. The results reveal that this kind of non-smooth factor has little influence on the chaotic threshold apart from calculating piecewise integrals. The efficiency of the criteria for non-smooth homoclinic bifurcation mentioned above is verified by the phase portraits, Poincaré section, and bifurcation diagrams, which laid a theoretical foundation for parameter design, stable operation, and fault diagnosis of rolling mills.

The coupled system of smooth and discontinuous absorber and beam bridge under moving loads is constructed in order to detect the effectiveness of smooth and discontinuous absorber. It is worth pointing out that the coupled system contains an irrational restoring force which is a barrier for conventional nonlinear techniques. Hence, the harmonic balance method and Fourier expansion are used to obtain the approximate solutions of the system. The first and the second kind of generalized complete elliptic integrals are introduced. Furthermore, using power flow approach, the performance of smooth and discontinuous absorber in vibration reduction is estimated through the input energy, the dissipated energy, and the damping efficiency. It is interesting that only depending on the value of the smoothness parameter, the efficiency parameter of vibration reduction is optimized. Therefore, smooth and discontinuous absorber can adapt itself to effectively reducing the amplitude of the vibration of the beam bridge, which provides an insight to the understanding of the applications of smooth and discontinuous oscillator in engineering and power flow characteristics in nonlinear system.

The electronic and magnetic properties of Mn and oxygen vacancies codoped anatase TiO2 were investigated. The calculated results showed that the TiO2 codoped with Mn and oxygen vacancies have a magnetic moment value of 3.415 μB per Ti31MnO63 supercell. Furthermore, Ti31MnO63 gets the lowest energy with a geometrical optimization where the Mn ions locate at the nearest-neighbor sites of the oxygen vacancy. And experimental results indicated the magnetism is associated with the defects of Mn ions and oxygen vacancies induced by the Mn doping, which is consistent with the calculation results.

Both the B cell antigen receptor (BCR) signaling and Notch signaling pathway play important roles in marginal zone (MZ) B cell development; however, if and how these two signaling pathways engage in crosstalk with each other remain unclear. In the present study, IgH transgenic mice (TgV(H)3B4) were crossed with mice with Notch downstream transcription factor RBP-J floxed alleles (RBP-J(f/f)) and Mx-Cre transgene. Subsequently, MZ B cell development was analyzed in 3B4/Cre/RBP-J(f/f) mice that expressed the transgenic 3B4 IgH and exhibited a deficiency in Notch signaling in B cells upon poly (I:C) injection. We observed that MZ B cell numbers were severely reduced, but still detectable in 3B4/Cre/RBP-J(f/f) mice, in contrast to increased numbers of MZ B cells in TgV(H)3B4 mice and almost no MZ B cells in Cre/RBP-J(f/f) mice. The majority of the MZ B cells in the 3B4/Cre/RBP-J(f/f) mice had the same antigen specificity with that of 3B4 antibody, indicating that a particular BCR specificity might direct MZ B cell development in the absence of Notch signaling. The number of MZ B precursor (MZP) cells was reduced sharply in 3B4/Cre/RBP-J(f/f) mice, and the number of transitional stage 1 and transitional stage 2 cells did not change that much, indicating that the interaction between BCR and Notch signaling likely occurred during the T2-MZP stage. Based on the transgenic mouse model, our data indicate that MZ B cells with certain BCR specificity can develop in a Notch-RBP-J independent manner.
