Background Foreign body(FB) ingestion in the upper digestive tract is a common emergency that lacks sufficient attention in adult population. Improper management may bring additional injuries and financial burdens to patients. This review was performed to determine the clinical characteristics of upper gastrointestinal FBs, including the demographic of adult patients, the type and location of FBs, underlying diseases of patients and other risk factors, and outcomes. Methods We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane databases with the terms “foreign body AND upper gastrointestinal NOT child”. Finally, we got 7 articles between 2001 and 2020 and extracted the information. Results A total of 1391 patients were included. 736 (52.9%) patients were males and 655 (47.1%) were females. Fish bone was the most common type of FBs. Esophagus accounts for the most location in the upper digestive tract. 18.2% (235/1291) patients had the underlying diseases, and 11.7% (58/494) had other risk factors. The overall complication rate was 4.5% (63/1391).

The spatial distributions of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd and Pb (potentially toxic elements, PTEs) in sediments and intrinsic influence factors from the Wuliangsuhai wetland of the Hetao Irrigation District, China were studied in this work. The results showed that excluding Zn, the total contents of other PTEs were higher than the background values, of which As (39.26 mg·kg−1) and Cd (0.44 mg·kg−1) were six-fold and seven-fold higher, respectively. Especially, the high levels of Cd (70.17%), Pb (66.53%), and Zn (57.20%) in the non-residual fraction showed high bioavailability and mobility. It indicated that PTEs can enter the food chain more easily and produce much toxicity. Based on Igeo, ICF, and MRI, the contamination of As was the most serious in the middle areas (MDP) of the wetland, and its risk was up to moderately strong. Cd and Pb posed moderate and considerate risk, respectively. Furthermore, 29.50% and 55.54% risk contribution ratio of As and Cd, respectively, showed that they were the dominant contaminants. In addition, the positive correlation between sand, OM, and total contents and chemical fractions of PTEs by using PCM, RDA, and DHCA indicated that physicochemical properties could significantly influence the spatial distributions of PTEs. The work was useful for assessing the level of pollution in the study area and acquiring information for future and possible monitoring and remediation activities.

ObjectiveEven though 32%–83% for fear of falling (FoF) in patients with stroke, very little is known about the predictors of the problems. Therefore, we systematically reviewed the literature on risk factors for FoF in patients with stroke.DesignA systematic review and meta-analysisData sourcesPubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library database, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Grey literature and other relevant databases for related publications were searched (from inception to 17 July 2021).ResultsEight studies involving 1597 participants were selected to analyse risk factors for patients with stroke with FoF. The quality of all included studies was assessed and categorised as medium or high quality. Review Manager V.5.3 merged the OR value and 95% CI of the potential risk factors. Meta-regression and Egger’s test were performed by Stata V.15.1. The risk factors for FoF in patients with stroke were women (OR=2.13, 95% CI 1.47 to 3.09), impaired balance ability (OR=5.54; 95% CI 3.48 to 8.81), lower mobility (OR=1.12; 95% CI 1.05 to 1.19), history of falls (OR=2.33; 95% CI 1.54 to 3.53) and walking aid (OR=1.98; 95% CI 1.37 to 2.88), anxiety (OR=2.29; 95% CI 1.43 to 3.67), depression (OR=1.80; 95% CI 1.22 to 2.67), poor lower limb motor function (OR=1.14; 95% CI 1.00 to 1.29) and physically inactiveness (OR=2.04; 95% CI 1.01 to 4.12). Measurement of heterogeneity between studies was high for all outcomes (I2=0%–93%), indicating that the substantial interstudy heterogeneity in estimated proportions was not attributed to the sampling error. Sensitivity analysis (leave-one-out method) showed that the pooled estimate was stable.ConclusionThis meta-analysis indicated that female population, impaired balance ability, lower mobility, history of falls and walking aid in patients with stroke might be at greater risk for FoF. Future studies are recommended to determine other risk factors specific to patients with stroke.

In this study, the halloysite nanotubes was characterized and the adsorption of Th(IV) and U(VI) on halloysite nanotubes was investigated as a function of contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, ionic strength, initial U(VI) concentration and temperature using batch method. Meanwhile, the adsorption mechanism of uranium and thorium on halloysite nanotubes was discussed. The microscopic results displayed that halloysite nanotubes was tubular morphology and highly porous and high specific surface area of ca. 55.65 m2/g. The adsorption results showed that the adsorption of U(VI) and Th(IV) on halloysite nanotubes followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The strong pH dependent adsorption of U(VI) and Th(IV) displayed their strong surface complexation with the surface of halloysite nanotubes. The adsorption of Th(IV) and U(VI) increased with elevating temperature and was an endothermic and spontaneous process. The adsorption isotherms of Th(IV) and U(VI) can be better described by Freundlich and D–R model. The effect of ionic strength on the adsorption of thorium on halloysite nanotubes was much greater than that on uranium(almost unaffected), which suggested the adsorption of Th(IV) on halloysite nanotubes was most probably based on the formation of inner-sphere complexes, while that of U(VI) was based on the formation of outer-sphere complex on the edge surfaces. Th(IV) and U(VI) adsorption–desorption isotherm on halloysite nanotubes indicated adsorption process was irreversible. The selectivity order of adsorption by the halloysite nanotubes was Th(IV) > U(VI). The higher adsorption efficiency of the halloysite nanotubes for Th(IV) could be utilized for selective separation of Th(IV) from U(VI) aqueous with pH 4.1–4.3. The novel and environmentally friendly adsorption material is feasible to extract thorium from waste aqueous solution.

Traffic forecasting in urban area has attracted substantial attention in recent years due to its significant assitance for traffic dispatching and trip planning. However, this task is very challenging due to the complex dependencies inherent in the traffic process. In our study, recent and periodic dependencies are identified and used to describe the corresponding near-term and long-term effects of historical traffic data on future traffic states. Subsequently, during the recent dependency modeling, each road is found to correlate with its adjacent roads through traffic flow diffusion, then the correlation intensities are quantified and used to choose strongly correlated roads to build a critical road sequence. While for the periodic dependency modeling, since the historical speed series of a road segment exhibits multi-frequency attributes (i.e., low-frequency daily period and high-frequency stochastic fluctuation), wavelet transform is conducted to decompose the original speed series into low and high-frequency sub-series. On these bases, we propose a hybrid traffic speed forecasting model, flow and wavelet-integrated spatio-temporal network (FW-STN). In the FW-STN, the recent features are captured by the convolutional neural network (CNN) with near-term traffic data from the derived critical road sequence, and the periodic features are captured by the long short-term memory (LSTM) with the low and high-frequency sub-series. Both the recent and periodic features are then fused to conduct the final prediction. Experimental results on real traffic data show that the proposed approach outperforms nine state-of-the-art methods (with improvements of 3% ~15% in mean average percentage error).

Ibuprofen (IBU), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is one of the most widely used and frequently detected pharmaceuticals and personal care products in water bodies. This study examined the IBU degradation in aquatic solutions via ferric ion activated peroxydisulfate (PDS) coupled with electro-oxidation (EC/Fe3+/PDS). The degradation mechanisms involved three synergistic reactions in the EC/Fe3+/PDS system, including: (1) the electro-oxidation; (2) SO4•− generated from the activation of PDS by ferrous ions formed via cathodic reduction; (3) SO4•− generated from the electron transfer reaction. The radical scavenging experiments indicated that SO4•− and •OH dominated the oxidation process. The effects of the applied current density, PDS concentration, Fe3+ dosage, initial IBU concentration and initial pH as well as inorganic anions and humic acid on the degradation efficiency, were studied, and the degradation process of IBU followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. About 99.37% of IBU was removed in 60 min ((Fe3+ concentration) = 2.0 mM, (PDS concentration) = 12 mM, (initial IBU concentration) = 30 mg/L, current density = 15 mA/cm2, initial pH = 3). Finally, seven intermediate compounds were identified and probable IBU degradation pathways in the EC/Fe3+/PDS system were speculated.

To critically appraise and quantify the performance studies by employing machine learning (ML) to predict delirium.A systematic review and meta-analysis.Articles reporting the use of ML to predict delirium in adult patients were included. Studies were excluded if (1) the primary goal was only the identification of various risk factors for delirium; (2) the full-text article was not found; and (3) the article was published in a language other than English/Chinese.PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library database, Web of Science, Grey literature, and other relevant databases for the related publications were searched (from inception to December 15, 2021). The data were extracted using a standard checklist, and the risk of bias was assessed through the prediction model risk of bias assessment tool. Meta-analysis with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, sensitivity, and specificity as effect measures, was performed with Metadisc software. Cochran Q and IA total of 22 studies were included. Only 4 of 22 studies were quantitatively analyzed. The studies varied widely in reporting about the study participants, features and selection, handling of missing data, sample size calculations, and the intended clinical application of the model. For ML models, the overall pooled area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for predicting delirium was 0.89, sensitivity 0.85 (95% confidence interval 0.84‒0.85), and specificity 0.80 (95% confidence interval 0.81-0.80).We found that the ML model showed excellent performance in predicting delirium. This review highlights the potential shortcomings of the current approaches, including low comparability and reproducibility. Finally, we present the various recommendations on how these challenges can be effectively addressed before deploying these models in prospective analyses.

The modified polyacrylonitrile fibers (ACPAN fibers) was synthesized by oximation reaction and alkaline hydrolysis. ACPAN fibers was characterized by means of SEM, FTIR, XPS and elementary analysis. The effects of contact time, solid–liquid ratio, pH, ionic strength, initial concentration and temperature on U(VI) adsorption onto ACPAN fibers was studied and the adsorption mechanism was also discussed. The experimental data fitted well pseudo-second-order kinetics model and Freundlich and D–R models, and thermodynamic process was an endothermic and spontaneous reaction. The maximum adsorption capacity was 163 mg/g, and U(VI) and ACPAN fibers possible formed more stable penta-coordination complexation. This paper highlighted ACPAN fibers as a good adsorbent to remove efficiently and economically uranyl from radioactive wastewater.

Background Skin flap-like wounds are common. These wound flaps are prone to avascular necrosis with simple debrided and sutured, and postoperative hyperplastic scarring and contracture of wound surfaces can adversely affect the patient's appearance. Here, we evaluate the data of cases with flap-like wounds to identify the causes of flap necrosis. Methods Six hundred patients with skin flap-like wounds between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Their age, sex, injury reason, size of flap, length-width ratio of wound, thickness of pedicle, operation time, injury site, direction of blood perfusion in the flap and operating methods were recorded. The risks for flap necrosis were analyzed with one-factor analysis. Results A total success rate of 92.5% (555/600) for flap-like wound reconstruction was obtained. Among 67 flaps with vascular crisis, 22 were salvaged by subcutaneous injection of anisodamine, selective suture removal, and pressure dressing with elastic bandages. For the 45 patients with flap necrosis, there was no significant difference from patients without necrosis in terms of sex, age, and size of flap (P > 0.05). The incidence of flap necrosis was significantly different in terms of injury reason, length-width ratio of wound, thickness of pedicle, operation time, injury site, direction of blood perfusion in the flap and operating methods (P Conclusion Injury reason, length-width ratio of wound, thickness of pedicle, operation time, injury site, direction of blood perfusion in the flap and operating methods, rather than age, sex and size of flap, were significant risk factors for necrosis of flap-like wounds.

Microplastic (MP) pollution in terrestrial ecosystems has aroused great concern. However, little is known regarding the distribution of MPs in Sand Land soils and their associated destinies. We investigated the MPs pollution in different areas, different vegetation cover and restoration years in Mu Us Sand Land soils. The results clearly showed that the soils of Mu Us Sand Land contain a relatively higher MPs abundance. The significant differences of MPs abundance were demonstrated among soil from sand, grassland and woodland, which the total MP abundance of sand soil was higher than that of grassland and woodland. The distribution of MP size in the woodland area primarily from 0 to 0.50 mm, which is significantly higher than that other areas. In addition, the highest concentration of MP collected was found at Salix tree (ST), followed by Poplar tree (PT) and Chinese pine (CP), while the lowest concentration was at Pinus sylvestris (PSs) and Jujube tree (JT). It is worth noting that the abundance of MPs decreases with restoration years increased, whether it is PT or PSs. We speculate that the tree disturbance in the sampling area might affect the distribution of microplastics and then be conducive to plastic fragmentation.

The fatality rate of traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA) is extremely high, and it is very different from that of non-traumatic cardiac arrest (NTCA) in resuscitation strategy. Only when the standard resuscitation process is combined with rapid treatment of various reversible causes can the mortality rate of patients be decreased. In this paper, the key factors leading to TCA are reviewed, such as hypovolemic shock, asphyxia, tension pneumothorax, pericardial tamponade, crush syndrome, craniocerebral injury, cerebral hernia, and the control measures are elaborated respectively, so as to provide references for clinical treatment of patients with severe trauma, and reduce TCA incidence and mortality.

Obtaining accurate information about future traffic flows of all links in a traffic network is of great importance for traffic management and control applications. This research studies two particular problems in traffic forecasting: (1) capture the dynamic and non-local spatial correlation between traffic links and (2) model the dynamics of temporal dependency for accurate multiple steps ahead predictions. To address these issues, we propose a deep learning framework named Spatial-Temporal Sequence to Sequence model (STSeq2Seq). This model builds on sequence to sequence (seq2seq) architecture to capture temporal feature and relies on graph convolution for aggregating spatial information. Moreover, STSeq2Seq defines and constructs pattern-aware adjacency matrices (PAMs) based on pair-wise similarity of the recent traffic patterns on traffic links and integrate it into graph convolution operation. It also deploys a novel seq2sesq architecture which couples a convolutional encoder and a recurrent decoder with attention mechanism for dynamic modeling of long-range dependence between different time steps. We conduct extensive experiments using two publicly-available large-scale traffic datasets and compare STSeq2Seq with other baseline models. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art forecasting performance in terms of various error measures. The ablation study verifies the effectiveness of PAMs in capturing dynamic non-local spatial correlation and the superiority of proposed seq2seq architecture in modeling non-stationary temporal dependency for multiple steps ahead prediction. With the development of nuclear power and the depletion of uranium resources on land, extracting uranium from seawater has become a grand task. In particular, the synthesis of highly efficient and selective adsorbents becomes very important. Three copolymers (P(AO/C2VIM+Br−)-6, P(AO/C6VIM+Cl−)-3 and P(AO/C12VIM+Cl−)-2 were synthesized by radical polymerization, alkyl substitution and the amidoximation reaction of hydroxylamine. The copolymers were characterized by using FTIR, XPS, 1H NMR, and elemental analysis. The effects of different amount of imidazole cation and different length of branched chain on the adsorption were investigated by batch experiments, including solid-liquid ratio, contact time, pH, ionic strength, and coexisting ions. Meanwhile, the adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics of U(VI) on the copolymers were carried out. The results proved that the U(VI) adsorption by the copolymers strongly depended on ionic strength and pH, and fit well with pseudo–second-order model and Langmuir model and displayed endothermic, spontaneous process. Based on FTIR and XPS analysis, the possible binding mechanism involved uranyl with oxime O and amino nitrogen by bidentate coordination model or through bidentate coordination of oxime O, amino N and imidazole N. In addition, a little uranium might be adsorbed with positive charges by coulombic interaction, especially the adsorption of uranium on copolymer P(AO/C12VIM+Br−)-2. Finally, reuse performance of copolymers and adsorption of uranium in simulated seawater were studied comparatively. The results showed that P(AO/C2VIM+ Br−)-6 can be regarded as a good adsorbent for extracting uranium in simulating seawater.

The phosphorus (P) fractions and adsorption-desorption characteristics in the Wuliangsuhai Lake were investigated through molybdenum blue/ascorbic acid method and indoor simulation experiments, respectively. The results showed that the highest total phosphorus concentration in overlying water (W-TP) was found in S1 which was in the hypereutrophic type. The mean concentration of particulate organic phosphorus (POP) was the most abundant P fraction (31.35% of the W-TP). The results of TP contents in sediments (S-TP) indicated that the most sampling sites were in the mild level of pollution. The contents of calcium-bound P (HCl-P) and residual P (Res-P) fractions together comprised 83.03-98.10% of the S-TP. Pseudo-second-order models fitted well with the adsorption-desorption kinetic of P fractions. The Langmuir and Freundlich models well described the adsorption isotherm of P fractions. The results of adsorption-desorption of P fractions indicated that the adsorption capacity was strong, the chemical adsorption was dominant, and the sediments was a source of P. Accordingly, we concluded that the Wuliangsuhai Lake was in the moderate pollution level, and the sediments as a source could desorb P in natural aquatic environment.

The regenerative repair of deep‑degree (second degree) burned skin remains a notable challenge in the treatment of burn injury, despite improvements being made with regards to treatment modality and the emergence of novel therapies. Fetal skin constitutes an attractive target for investigating scarless healing of burned skin. To investigate the inflammatory response during scarless healing of burned fetal skin, the present study developed a nude mouse model, which was implanted with normal human fetal skin and burned fetal skin. Subsequently, human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were used to treat the nude mouse model carrying the burned fetal skin. The expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‑9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP)‑1 were investigated during this process. In the present study, fetal skin was subcutaneously implanted into the nude mice to establish the murine model. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used to detect alterations in the skin during the development of fetal skin and during the healing process of deep‑degree burned fetal skin. The expression levels of MMP‑9 and TIMP‑1 were determined using immunochemical staining, and their staining intensity was evaluated by mean optical density. The results demonstrated that fetal skin subcutaneously implanted into the dorsal skin flap of nude mice developed similarly to the normal growth process in the womb. In addition, the scarless healing process was clearly observed in the mice carrying the burned fetal skin. A total of 2 weeks was required to complete scarless healing. Following treatment with PBMCs, the burned fetal skin generated inflammatory factors and enhanced the inflammatory response, which consequently resulted in a reduction in the speed of healing and in the formation of scars. Therefore, exogenous PBMCs may alter the lowered immune response environment, which is required for scarless healing, resulting in scar formation. In conclusion, the present study indicated that the involvement of inflammatory cells is important during the healing process of deep‑degree burned skin, and MMP‑9 and TIMP‑1 may serve important roles in the process of scar formation.

In order to improve the whole performance of a single kinds of materials, the nanoporous nickel (NPN) oxide film was fabricated by the method of interfacial electroless plating. The nickel (Ni) was deposited on the surface of the substrate in three dimensional nanoporous structure, and then the surface layer of Ni is converted into nickel oxide (NiO) after exposure to oxygen in the air. The as-prepared nickel oxide material not only maintains the porous structure of the substrate, but also increases the specific surface area of the material and improves the conductivity, thereby significantly improving the electrochemical capacitance performance of the material which characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The mass specific capacitance is 387 F g−1 and volumetric specific capacitance is 964 F cm−3. Therefore, the porous nickel oxide film is an electrode material with great potential for super capacitors.

The present work showed the preparation of gold (Au NPs) and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using aqueous leaf extract of Clinacanthus nutans Lindau (C. Lindau). The prepared NPs were studied using various microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, which confirmed the formation of crystalline Ag NPs, Au NPs that are stabilized with C. Lindau extract polyphenols. The prepared Au NPs and Ag NPs are studied to assess their comparative analgesic and muscle relaxant activities conducted on BALB/c mice. The muscle relaxant studies displayed that Ag NPs were comparatively higher efficient than Au NPs and methanolic C. Lindau extract in traction examination. Additionally, the analgesic studies exhibited that Ag NPs, Au NPs showed maximum percentage reduction in acetic acid induced writhing at the concentrations of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg body weight. Further, these results conclude that as prepared Au NPs and Ag NPs prepared from C. Lindau leaf extract demonstrated very good analgesic and muscle relaxant activities for the use of pain management in nursing care.

Fetal dermal mesenchymal stem cells (FDMSCs), isolated from fetal skin, are serving as a novel MSC candidate with great potential in regenerative medicine. More recently, the paracrine actions, especially MSC-derived exosomes, are being focused on the vital role in MSC-based cellular therapy. This study was to evaluate the therapeutic potential of exosomes secreted by FDMSCs in normal wound healing. First, the in vivo study indicated that FDMSC exosomes could accelerate wound closure in a mouse full-thickness skin wound model. Then, we investigated the role of FDMSC-derived exosomes on adult dermal fibroblast (ADFs). The results demonstrated that FDMSC exosomes could induce the proliferation, migration, and secretion of ADFs. We discovered that after treatment of exosomes, the Notch signaling pathway was activated. Then, we found that in FDMSC exosomes, the ligands of the Notch pathway were undetectable expect for Jagged 1, and the results of Jagged 1 mimic by peptide and knockdown by siRNA suggested that Jagged 1 may lead the activation of the Notch signal in ADFs. Collectively, our findings indicated that the FDMSC exosomes may promote wound healing by activating the ADF cell motility and secretion ability via the Notch signaling pathway, providing new aspects for the therapeutic strategy of FDMSC-derived exosomes for the treatment of skin wounds.

Ni(OH)2 precursor was prepared by precipitation and transformation method using nickel nitrate and sodium oxalate as raw materials and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as dispersant. After heat treatment, the obtained NiO powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV), constant current charge-discharge method, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The effects of surfactant concentration and calcination temperature on the morphology, structure, and electrochemical properties of NiO were studied. The results show that the NiO obtained under the condition of CTAB concentration of 0.8 mol/L and heat treatment temperature of 300 °C presents a typical pseudocapacitance property in the potential range of 0–0.4 V (vs. SCE). Under the operating voltage of 0.4 V and the current density of 5 mA/cm2, the specific capacitance of the single electrode is 536 F/g. By optimizing the preparation conditions, the single-electrode specific capacitance of the NiO material has been significantly improved.

In this work, Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized by reducing aqueous Au metal ions upon interaction with Coriandrum sativum (C. sativum) leaf extract. The optical absorption peak for the synthesized AuNPs was obtained by using UV–visible spectroscopy within a range of 540–550 nm. The formation of diffraction peaks found at 2θ values of 78.00°, 66.05°, 44.85° and 38.48° that corresponds to the index planes (311), (220), (200), and (111) validate the effective synthesis of AuNPs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was utilized to measure the size range of the spherical shaped nanoparticles, which is obtained to be 32.96 ± 5.25 nm. The peaks obtained from the FTIR results are closely linked to anthocyanins, benzophenones, flavonoids and phenols, which indicated that these biomolecules may serve as reducing agents. Additionally, studies of antioxidant function in vitro revealed that the activities of ABTS (2, 2′-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) were improved dose-dependently. Further, the results of analgesic analysis showed that the cumulative action of AuNPs and the C. sativum leaf extract in pain relief is more efficient than independent C. sativum leaf extract and the aspirin drug.
