Abstract

Biexcitons are a manifestation of many-body excitonic interactions crucial for quantum information and quantum computation in the construction of coherent combinations of quantum states. However, due to their small binding energy and low transition efficiency, most biexcitons in conventional semiconductors exist either at cryogenic temperature or under femtosecond pulse laser excitation. Here we demonstrate room temperature, continuous wave driven biexciton states in CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals through coupling with a plasmonic nanogap. The room temperature CsPbBr3 biexciton excitation fluence (~100 mW/cm2) is reduced by ~10^13 times in the Ag nanowire-film nanogaps. The giant enhancement of biexciton emission is driven by coherent biexciton-plasmon Fano interference. Abstract

Lead-halide perovskites have been attracting attention for potential use in solid-state lighting. Following the footsteps of solar cells, the field of perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) has been growing rapidly. Their application prospects in lighting, however, remain still uncertain due to a variety of shortcomings in device performance including their limited levels of luminous efficiency achievable thus far. Here we show high-efficiency PeLEDs based on colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) synthesized at room temperature possessing dominant first-order excitonic radiation (enabling a photoluminescence quantum yield of 71% in solid film), unlike in the case of bulk perovskites with slow electron-hole bimolecular radiative recombination (a second-order process). In these PeLEDs, by reaching charge balance in the recombination zone, we find that the Auger nonradiative recombination, with its significant role in emission quenching, is effectively suppressed in low driving current density range. In consequence, these devices reach a record high maximum external quantum efficiency of 12.9% reported to date and an unprecedentedly high power efficiency of 30.3 lm W-1 at luminance levels above 1000 cd m-2 as required for various applications. These findings suggest that, with feasible levels of device performance, the PeNCs hold great promise for their use in LED lighting and displays.

Abstract

In contrast to conventional atomic crystals, two‐dimensional inorganic molecular crystals (2DIMCs) possess a unique crystal structure composed of small molecules held together by van der Waals force. Such distinctive structure grants them specific chemical and physical properties highly suitable for electronic and optoelectronic applications. However, the synthesis of 2DIMCs has posed significant challenges due to the inherent issues such as uncontrollable growth orientation stemming from their natural crystalline isotropy and poor stability resulting from the weak intermolecular connections. Addressing these obstacles, the preparation of large‐scale and highly‐stable 2DIMC BiBr3, and its heterostructure are reported here by developing crystallization orientation engineering strategies. This approach has successfully yielded centimeter‐scale 2DIMC BiBr3 with a clean and dense surface, showcasing exceptional long‐term air‐stability exceeding 80 days. Furthermore, the universal growth of large‐scale 2DIMC BiBr3 is demonstrated on diverse substrates, including SiO2, Al2O3, and MoS2 monolayers. Notably, the resultant 2D BiBr3/MoS2 heterostructure exhibits remarkable photoluminescence enhancement. This contribution paves a universal avenue for the mature synthesis of large‐scale 2DIMCs with superior stability, holding great promise for prompting their integration in practical electronic and optoelectronic devices. Abstract

Carbon dots (CDs) are highly desired in biological applications. However, achieving a balance between photoluminescence (PL) efficiency and photothermal conversion efficiency (PTCE) is challenging. In this study, an unprecedent combination of efficient red fluorescence and high PTCE in the second near‐infrared (NIR‐II) window in a sodium‐doped CDs system is reported. Upon 808 nm laser irradiation, photo‐induced oxidation–reduction reactions happened on the surface of sodium cation‐functionalized CDs (Na‐CDs), leading to the partial reduction of surface‐functionalized sodium (Na) ions. The photo‐reduced Na atoms coordinated with sp2 C domains in the core, resulting in Na‐doped CDs (ir‐Na‐CDs) with an enhanced absorption band in the NIR‐II window and a high PTCE of 43% under 1064 nm laser irradiation (1 W cm−2). Composing the ir‐Na‐CDs with bovine serum albumin (BSA) enhanced the PLQY of the red emission to 31% in water without diminishing the PTCE in the NIR‐II region. Transient absorption spectra revealed that no energy transfer occurred between the red emission center and the NIR‐II absorption band, revealing a novel CDs system with independent Janus photophysical processes. Moreover, ir‐Na‐CDs@BSA exhibited negligible to low cytotoxicity and demonstrated tumor accumulation capacity after intravenous injection, enabling effective tumor photothermal therapy in the NIR‐II region. Abstract

Carbon dots (CDs) are a burgeoning star of luminescent carbon‐based nanomaterials with emerging interest for various applications. Luminescence from the sp2‐conjugated domains in the carbon cores is considered to be the intrinsic bandgap emission of CDs, whereas the relationship between them remains poorly understood. Simultaneously, the solvent relaxation of water molecules will quench the fluorescence of CDs, thus, obtaining strong luminescence from CDs aqueous solutions remains a great challenge. Herein, a facile one‐step spatial‐confined cross‐condensation method that uses a heat‐induced self‐foaming process in ambient pressure has been developed to synthesize highly luminescent CDs with unprecedented photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) over 97.2% in water. The unique precursor‐derived cross‐arranged perylene skeleton in the cores hinders π–π stacking, while the hydrophobicity of the conjugated units mitigates solvent relaxation by water molecules, resulting in near‐unity PLQY in aqueous solutions, enabling this to demonstrate the first optically pumped green lasing emission in the CDs aqueous solution. Moreover, a biomaterial‐based white light emitting diode is fabricated using the CDs‐stained silks as a fluorescence conversion cover to realize a high luminous efficiency of 60.7 lm W−1 with CIE color coordinate of (0.33, 0.35). Abstract

The improvement of power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSC) relies on the enhanced quality of perovskite layer and the modification of its adjacent interfaces. For this purpose, a multifunctional organic passivation molecule 1‐(4‐Fluorophenyl) biguanide hydrochloride (F‐BHCl) is introduced to the top and bottom interfaces of the perovskite layer. The PCE of PSC after the modification of double interfaces with F‐BHCl is significantly increased from 22.41% (unmodified) to 25.14%, and the storage, thermal, and operation stability is also improved. The comprehensive theoretical and experimental studies verify that due to its versatile functional groups and adaptation, F‐BHCl can significantly improve the quality of perovskite film, fully passivate several kinds of common defects, smoothen the top surfaces of perovskite film, and construct "molecular bridges" with carrier transporters on both the top and bottom surfaces, leading to significantly reduced non‐recombination and carrier transport losses. Abstract

Organic perovskites are promising semiconductor materials for advanced photoelectric applications. Their fluorescence typically shows a negative temperature coefficient due to bandgap change and structural instability. In this study, a novel perovskite‐based composite with positive sensitivity to temperature was designed and obtained based on its inverse temperature crystallization, demonstrating good flexibility and solution processability. The supercritical drying method was used to address the limitations of annealing drying in preparing high‐performance perovskite. Optimizing the precursor composition proved to be an effective approach for achieving high fluorescence and structural integrity in the perovskite material. This perovskite‐based composite exhibited a positive temperature sensitivity of 28.563% °C−1 for intensity change and excellent temperature cycling reversibility in the range of 25–40 °C in an ambient environment. This made it suitable for use as a smart window with rapid response. Furthermore, the perovskite composite was found to offer temperature‐sensing photoluminescence and flexible processability due to its components of perovskite‐based compounds and polyethylene oxide. The organic precursor solvent could be a promising candidate for use as ink to print or write on various substrates for optoelectronic devices responding to temperature. A composite based on perovskite was created to demonstrate long‐term positive temperature sensitivity. It could be a great option for use in smart windows that respond quickly to temperature changes. Furthermore, it had the potential to be used as ink for printing or writing on different substrates for optoelectronic devices with good flexibility and solution processability.
