Purpose: This study investigated native Cantonese-speaking preschool children's diadochokinetic performance, including rate, accuracy, and regularity. The second aim of this study was to examine whether language-specific patterns exist by comparing diadochokinetic rates with the average DKK rate for native English speakers. Method: Sixty-four typically developing preschool children who were native Cantonese speakers participated. The diadochokinetic task administered to the children involved repetitions of monosyllabic, disyllabic, and trisyllabic words and nonsense words. The maximum performance of the children was compared by diadochokinetic rate (number of syllables per second), accuracy (percentage of matched production), and regularity (pairwise variability indexes, known as PVIs). Results: Monosyllabic units were produced faster, more accurately, and more regularly than multisyllabic units. Word repetition showed higher accuracy and generally lower regularity than nonsense words but similar rates. Older children were faster and more regular (higher raw PVI of initial consonants) than younger children, but younger children performed as accurately as them. When compared with data from English speakers, the diadochokinetic rates of Cantonese children were generally lower. Conclusions: Developmental progression was evident in terms of rate and regularity. The distinctive accuracy and regularity patterns between word and nonsense word repetition suggest a clinical value for both stimulus types. Language typology plays a role in diadochokinetic rate, supporting the use of language-specific reference data in practice. The typical diadochokinetic profile obtained in this study could serve as a clinical reference for speech motor assessments.

ObjectivesThe genus Streptococcus contains species of important zoonotic pathogens such as those that cause bovine mastitis. Unfortunately, many Streptococcus species have developed antibiotic resistance. Phage lysins are considered promising alternatives to antibiotics because it is difficult for bacteria to develop lysin resistance. However, there remains a lack of phage lysin resources for the treatment of streptococci-induced mastitis.MethodsWe identified the prophage lysin Lys0859 from the genome of the Streptococcus suis SS0859 strain. Lys0859 was subsequently characterized to determine its host range, MIC, bactericidal activity in milk, and ability to clear biofilms in vitro. Finally, to determine the effects of Lys0859 on the treatment of both bovine mastitis and S. suis infection in vivo, we established models of Streptococcus agalactiae ATCC 13813-induced mastitis and S. suis serotype 2 SC19 systemic infection.ResultsOur results demonstrate that Lys0859 possesses broad-spectrum lytic activity against Streptococcus and Staphylococcus species isolated from animals with bovine mastitis and 15 serotypes of S. suis isolated from swine. Intramammary and intramuscular injection of Lys0859 reduced the number of bacteria in mammary tissue by 3.75 and 1.45 logs compared with the PBS group, respectively. Furthermore, 100 μg/mouse of Lys0859 administered intraperitoneally at 1 h post-infection protected 83.3% (5/6) of mice from a lethal dose of S. suis infection.ConclusionsOverall, our results enhance the understanding and development of new strategies to combat both streptococci-induced mastitis and S. suis infection.

Four extremely halophilic archaeal strains, LYG-108T, LYG-24, DT1T and YSSS71, were isolated from salted Laminaria produced in Lianyungang and saline soil from the coastal beach at Jiangsu, PR China. The four strains were found to be related to the current species of Halomicroarcula (showing 88.1–98.5% and 89.3–93.6% similarities, respectively) as revealed by phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA and rpoB′ genes. These phylogenies were fully supported by the phylogenomic analysis, and the overall genome-related indexes (average nucleotide identity, DNA–DNA hybridization and average amino acid identity) among these four strains and the Halomicroarcula species were 77–84 %, 23–30 % and 71–83 %, respectively, clearly below the threshold values for species demarcation. Additionally, the phylogenomic and comparative genomic analyses revealed that Halomicroarcula salina YGH18T is related to the current species of Haloarcula rather than those of Halomicroarcula , Haloarcula salaria Namwong et al. 2011 is a later heterotypic synonym of Haloarcula argentinensis Ihara et al. 1997, and Haloarcula quadrata Oren et al. 1999 is a later heterotypic synonym of Haloarcula marismortui Oren et al. 1990. The major polar lipids of strains LYG-108T, LYG-24, DT1T and YSSS71 were phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester, phosphatidylglycerol sulphate, sulphated mannosyl glucosyl diether and additional glycosyl-cardiolipins. All these results showed that strains LYG-108T (=CGMCC 1.13607T=JCM 32950T) and LYG-24 (=CGMCC 1.13605=JCM 32949) represent a new species of the genus Halomicroarcula , for which the name Halomicroarcula laminariae sp. nov. is proposed; strains DT1T (=CGMCC 1.18928T=JCM 35414T) and YSSS71 (=CGMCC 1.18783=JCM 34915) also represent a new species of the genus Halomicroarcula , for which the name Halomicroarcula marina sp. nov. is proposed.

Background: Patients with sepsis are prone to complications such as cardiac damage and arrhythmia, of which atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common. Previous studies have found that some pathogenic microorganisms infected by sepsis patients was related to the occurrence of new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF), but no study has conducted a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the pathogens associated with NOAF in sepsis patients. Methods: This retrospective observational study examined 2123 patients diagnosed with sepsis in Yichang Central People's Hospital from August 1, 2016, to August 20, 2021. We selected 123 septic patients with AF as the case group and 2000 septic patients without AF as the control group. The sociodemographic characteristics, complications, laboratory test results, hospital clinical process and outcome of the two groups were compared. In addition, we assessed the proportion of pathogens with different types, common strains, gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, different sites of infection, community infection, nosocomial infection, and culture-negative sepsis. We used logistic regression to determine the risk factors for NOAF in sepsis patients. Results: In the adjusted multivariable analysis, we found that sepsis patients with NOAF are significantly more likely to have older age (OR 2.725; 95% CI 1.775-4.184), coronary heart disease (OR 2.124; 95% CI 1.300-3.471), heart failure (OR 2.289; 95% CI 1.462-3.585), severe inflammation (OR 4.012; 95% CI 2.654-6.064), septic shock (OR 2.297; 95% CI 1.532-3.445), Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection (OR 4.163; 95% CI 2.199-7.880), Streptococcus pneumoniae infection (OR 5.729; 95% CI 1.666-19.706) and central venous catheter infection (OR 3.954; 95% CI 1.651-9.470). Moreover, sepsis patients with NOAF might have a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality (P-adj=0.000), higher hospitalization expenses (P-adj=0.000), a higher likelihood of admission to the ICU (P-adj=0.000), and a higher likelihood of using mechanical ventilation than those without NOAF (P-adj=0.000). Conclusions: In addition to traditional risk factors (such as older age, coronary heart disease, heart failure, severe inflammation and septic shock), Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, Streptococcus pneumoniae infection and central venous catheter infection also contributed to the risk of NOAF in sepsis patients. Furthermore, NOAF conferred an increased risk for in-hospital mortality and hospitalization expenses.

The conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass in neonatal, infant, and pediatric patients continuously evolves as new devices and innovative techniques are introduced. Since 1989, periodic pediatric perfusion surveys have been conducted to ascertain practice patterns involving demographics, equipment, and perfusion techniques. The goal of this current project is to provide an updated perspective on international pediatric and congenital perfusion practice since the last survey conducted in 2016. In July 2021, a 100-question perfusion survey was distributed to 284 pediatric cardiac surgery centers using a secure web browser-based data application. Each center was given a unique survey hyperlink to ensure one response per institution and to monitor the response rate. Centers were given 1 month to complete the survey and electronic reminders were sent weekly to nonrespondents. After the survey was closed, information from completed surveys was exported to a software program for analysis. Responses were received from 153 of 284 pediatric centers for a response rate of 54%. Sixty respondents (39%) were from North American (NA) centers while 93 respondents (61%) were from non-North American (NNA) centers. The vast majority of centers use a roller head arterial pump (93%), hollow fiber oxygenators with open reservoirs (86%), and integrated arterial line filters (73%). The use of modified ultrafiltration was reported by 76% of centers. Ninety-two percent of centers reported the use of selective antegrade cerebral perfusion for aortic arch repairs. The N + 1 staffing model was most prevalent (52%), followed by two perfusionists per case (33%). Periodic surveys continue to be a useful modality in assessing regional variation in pediatric perfusion practice. This survey marked the first time the majority of responses came from non-North American institutions. Identifying these practice patterns may aid in the development of, and adherence to, regional standards and guidelines. This would foster the reduction of variation in practice and potentially improve patient safety.

Organic solar cells are a current research hotspot in the energy field because of their advantages of lightness, translucency, roll to roll printing and building integration. With the rapid development of small molecule acceptor materials with high-performance, the efficiency of organic solar cells has been greatly improved. Further improving the device efficiency and stability and reducing the cost of active layer materials will contribute to the industrial development of organic solar cells. As a novel type of carbon nanomaterials, carbon dots gradually show great application potential in the field of organic solar cells due to their advantages of low preparation cost, non-toxicity and excellent photoelectric performance. Firstly, the synthesis and classification of carbon dots are briefly introduced. Secondly, the photoelectric properties of carbon dots and their adjusting, including adjustable surface energy level structure, good film-forming performance and up/down conversion characteristics are summarized. Thirdly, based on these intrinsic properties, the feasibility and advantages of carbon dots used in organic solar cells are discussed. Fourthly, the application progress of carbon dots in the active layer, hole transport layer, electron transport layer, interface modification layer and down-conversion materials of organic solar cells is also reviewed. Finally, the application progress of carbon dots in organic solar cells is prospected. Several further research directions, including in-depth exploration of the controllable preparation of carbon dots and their application in the fields of interface layer and up/down conversion for improving efficiency and stability of device are pointed out.

We recently reported that intraperitoneal injection of 7,8-dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF), a brain-derived neurotrophic factor-mimicking small compound, could attenuate alcohol-related behaviors in a two-bottle choice ethanol consumption procedure (IA2BC) in rats via tropomyosin receptor kinase B in the ventral tegmental area (VTA), which is closely related to alcohol use disorder. However, the detailed mechanisms underlying the regulation of 7,8-DHF on alcohol drinking behavior remain elusive. In this study, we determined the role of nitric oxide (NO), a pleiotropic signaling molecule, in the VTA in the action of 7,8-DHF upon alcohol drinking behavior. Intermittent alcohol exposure led to the overexpression of NO in the VTA, especially 72 h after withdrawal from four weeks of ethanol exposure in IA2BC rats. A higher amount of alcohol intake was also found at the same time point, consistent with the overexpression of NO in the VTA. Microinjection of NG-Nitro-l-Arginine Methyl Ester, (NO synthase inhibitor) or 2-4-carboxyphenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide (NO scavenger) into the VTA inhibited alcohol intake, whereas application of S-Nitroso-N-acetyl-DL-penicillamine (SNAP, the NO donor) in the VTA further enhanced alcohol consumption in IA2BC rats. Interestingly, either 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3,-a]quinoxalin-1-one (a sGC inhibitor) or KT5823 [a selective protein kinase G (PKG) inhibitor] blocked NO's enhancing effect on ethanol intake. Intraperitoneal injection of 7,8-DHF reduced the overexpression of NO; SNAP microinjected into the VTA reversed the inhibitory effects of 7,8-DHF on alcohol consumption. Our findings suggest that NO-cGMP-PKG might be involved in regulation of 7,8-DHF on alcohol consumption in IA2BC rats.

Nuclear targeted delivery has great potential in improving the efficiency of non-viral carrier mediated genome editing. However, direct and efficient delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 plasmid into the nucleus remains a challenge. In this study, a nuclear targeted gene delivery platform based on fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) was developed. Polyethylenimine (PEI) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) synergistically passivated the surface of CQDs, providing an excitation-independent green-emitting fluorescent CQDs-PEI-PEG conjugate (CQDs-PP) with an ultra-small size and positive surface charge. Here we show that CQDs-PP could bind CRISPR/Cas9 plasmid to form a nano-complex by electrostatic attraction, which can bypass lysosomes and enter the nucleus by passive diffusion, and thereby improve the transfection efficiency. Also, CQDs-PP could deliver CRISPR/Cas9 plasmid into HeLa cells, resulting in the insertion/deletion mutation of the target EFHD1 gene. More importantly, CQDs-PP exhibited a considerably higher gene editing efficiency as well as comparable or lower cytotoxicity relative to Lipo2000 and PEI-passivated CQDs-PEI (CQDs-P). Thus, the nuclear-targeted CQDs-PP is expected to constitute an efficient CRISPR/Cas9 delivery carrier

Objective The quality evaluation of herbal products remains a big challenge. Traceable markers are the core concept of the authentication of herbal products. However, the discovery of traceable markers is labor-intensive and time-consuming. The aim of this study is to develop a convenient approach to rapidly screen the traceable markers for herbal product authentication. Methods Commercial Jing Liqueur and its 22 species of herbal ingredients were analyzed using HPLC-QTOF-MS and GC–MS to characterize nonvolatile and volatile chemicals. The acquired data were imported into MZmine 2 software for mass detection, chromatogram building, deconvolution and alignment. The aligned data were exported into a csv file and then traceable markers were selected using the built-in filter function in Excel. Finally, the traceable markers were identified by searching against online databases or publications, some of which were confirmed by reference standards. Results A total of 288 chemical features transferred from herbal materials to Jing Liqueur product were rapidly screened out. Among them, 52 markers detected by HPLC-QTOF-MS were annotated, while nine volatile markers detected by GC–MS were annotated. Moreover, 30 of these markers were confirmed by comparing with reference standards. A chemical fingerprint consisting of traceable markers was finally generated to ensure the authentication and quality consistency of Jing Liqueur. Conclusion A strategy for rapid discovery of traceable markers in herbal products using MZmine 2 software was developed.

AIM: To quantitatively analyze the retinal intermediate and deep capillary plexus (ICP and DCP) in patients with retinal deep vascular complex ischemia (RDVCI), using 3D projection artifacts removal (3D PAR) optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: RDVCI patients and gender- and age-matched healthy controls were assessed and underwent OCTA examinations. The parafoveal vessel density (PFVD) of retinal deep vascular complex (DVC), ICP, and DCP were analyzed, and the percentage of reduction (PR) of PFVD was calculated. RESULTS: Twenty-four eyes in 22 RDVCI patients (20 in acute phase and 4 in chronic phase) and 24 eyes of 22 healthy subjects were enrolled as the control group. Significant reduction of PFVD in DVC, ICP, and DCP was observed in comparison with the controls (DVC: acute: 43.59%±6.58% vs 49.92%±5.49%, PR=12.69%; chronic: 43.50%±3.33% vs 51.20%±3.80%, PR=15.04%. ICP: acute: 40.28%±7.91% vs 46.97%±7.14%, PR=14.23%; chronic: 41.48%±2.87% vs 46.43%±3.29%, PR=10.66%. Effective cost reduction is the primary task of the commercialization of phased array antenna technology. In this communication, a novel array structure composed of irregular and overlapped subarrays is proposed. The advantages of two kinds of subarrays are integrated to achieve the performance requirements while reducing the cost. The basic idea is departing the array into a multilayer hierarchical structure. The first layer is subtly designed by irregular subarray tiles. In this case, the number of active devices can be effectively reduced, thereby reducing the cost. The second layer is an overlapped subarray structure which is able to ensure scanning performance. Both limited field of view and wideband wide-angle scanning applications are discussed to show the compatibility of the proposed structure. The effectiveness is verified by various numerical results.

Hypericum perforatum L. (Clusiaceae), commonly known as St. John's wort, has a rich historical background as one of the oldest and most widely studied herbal medicines. Hyperforin is the main antidepressant active ingredient of St. John's wort. In recent years, hyperforin has attached increasing attention due to its multiple pharmacological activities. In this review, the information on hyperforin was systematically summarized. Hyperforin is considered to be a lead compound with diverse pharmacological activities including anti-depression, anti-tumor, anti-dementia, anti-diabetes and others. It can be obtained by extraction and synthesis. Further pharmacological studies and more precise detection methods will help develop a value for hyperforin. In addition, structural modification and pharmaceutical preparation technology will be beneficial to promoting the research progress of hyperforin based innovative drugs. Although these works are full of known and unknown challenges, researchers are still expected to make hyperforin play a greater value.

The vascular system is responsible for the communication of information between different organs and the environment as a whole, so that it can coordinate the development of plants and respond to the changes of the environment. The signal substances moving in the vascular system are called long-distance signals. In recent years, it has been found that some long-distance molecular signals, such as microRNA, mRNA, small peptides, hormones, second messengers and proteins, can transmit extracellular stimuli from sensing tissues to target organs, so as to systematically regulate plant development process and environmental response. In this review, we summarize the molecular mechanisms of long-distance moving RNA, small peptides and proteins in plants to regulate plant organ development, nutrient uptake and stress resistance. The application potential of this field in crop breeding was discussed and prospected, in order to provide a theoretical basis for the application of genetics and breeding in crops.高等植物在应对复杂环境变化时,需要整合和协调不同器官与组织感知的信息,并通过一套精细且复杂的机制经维管系统向受体组织或器官传递,进而系统性协调植物整体的生长发育和环境响应。在维管系统中移动的信号物质称为长距离信号。近年来研究发现,能够长距离移动的信号分子主要有小RNA、mRNA、小肽、激素、第二信使以及蛋白质等几类,这些信号分子能够将细胞外刺激从感知组织传递到靶器官,从而系统性地调控植物发育进程和环境响应。本文重点总结了植物体内长距离移动的RNA、小肽和蛋白质这3类长距离信号分子在调控植物器官发育、养分吸收以及环境响应等方面的研究进展,并对该领域在作物育种方面的应用潜力进行了探讨和展望,以期为作物遗传育种应用提供理论基础。.

The mixing enthalpies and structural order in liquid Mg−Si system were investigated via ab-initio molecular dynamics at 1773 K. By calculating the transferred charges and electron density differences, the dominance of Si−Si interactions in the chemical environments around Si was demonstrated, which determined that the mixing enthalpy reached the minimum on Mg-rich side. In terms of Honeycutt and Anderson (HA) bond pairs based on the partial pair correlation functions, the attraction between Si−Si pairs and Mg atoms was revealed, and the evolution of structural order with Si content was characterized as a process of constituting frame structures by Si−Si pairs that dispersed Mg atoms. Focusing on tetrahedral order of local Si-configurations, a correlation between the mixing enthalpy and structural order was uncovered ultimately, which provided a new perspective combining the energetics with geometry to understand the liquid Mg−Si binary system.

Transforming growth factor-β1 signaling pathways are known to involve in the development of post-infarction fibrosis, a process characterized by the aberrant activation, proliferation, and differentiation of fibroblasts, as well as the unbalanced turnover of extracellular matrix proteins. Recent studies have shown that Lefty1, a novel member of TGF-β superfamily, acts as a brake on the TGF-β signaling pathway in non-cardiac tissues. However, its role in myocardial infarction (MI)–induced fibrosis and left ventricular remodeling has not been fully elucidated. Here, for the first time, we reported that Lefty1 alleviated post-MI fibroblast proliferation, differentiation, and secretion through suppressing p-Smad2 and p-ERK1/2 signaling pathways in vivo and in vitro. In MI mice or TGF-β1-treated neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts (CFBs), the expression of Lefty1 was upregulated. Adenovirus-mediated overexpression of Lefty1 significantly attenuated TGF-β1-induced CFBs’ proliferation, differentiation, and collagen production. Using the adeno-associated virus approach, we confirmed that Lefty1 attenuates MI-induced cardiac injury, as evidenced by the decreased infarct size and preserved cardiac function. These results highlight the importance of Lefty1 in the prevention of post-MI fibrosis and may help identify potential targets for therapeutic intervention of cardiac fibrosis.

The hydrothermal synthesis of MCM-48 molecular sieves with CTAB and TEAOH as dual template agents and alkaline silica sol as silicon source has been systematically studied. The samples prepared at different crystallization temperature and time were analyzed by XRD, IR, nitrogen adsorption and desorption. The result shows that the best crystallization temperature and time are 100°C and 48h, respectively. According to BJH algorithm, the specific surface area of the sample is 1088 ~ 1669 m2/g, the pore size is 2.48 ~ 2.54 nm, and the pore volume is 1.2064 ~ 1.263 0cm3/g. Because it has high specific surface area, it can be widely used in catalytic adsorption, environmental engineering, biomedicine and other fields. The purpose of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes and complications between the mini-open Wiltse approach with pedicle screw fixation (MWPSF) and percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (PPSF) in treating neurologically intact thoracolumbar fractures.We comprehensively searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library and performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials and retrospective comparative studies assessing these important indexes of the 2 methods using Review Manager, version 5.4. The clinical outcomes are presented as the risk difference for dichotomous outcomes and the mean difference for continuous outcomes with the 95% confidence intervals. Heterogeneity was assessed using the χTwo randomized controlled trials and six retrospective cohort studies were included in the present analysis. The percutaneous approach was associated with less intraoperative blood loss compared with the mini-open Wiltse approach. No significant differences were found in the total length of the incisions, hospitalization time, postoperative visual analog scale scores, postoperative Oswestry disability index, postoperative Cobb angle, postoperative Cobb angle correction, postoperative Cobb angle correction loss, accuracy rate of pedicle screw placement, and postoperative complications between MWPSF and PPSF. However, the incidence of facet joint violation was significantly higher in the PPSF group. In addition, MWPSF was associated with a shorter operative time, shorter intraoperative fluoroscopy time, lower hospitalization costs, better postoperative vertebral body angle and percentage of vertebral body height compared with PPSF.Both MWPSF and PPSF are safe and effective treatments of neurologically intact thoracolumbar fractures. Nevertheless, our results have indicated that MWPSF might be the better choice, because it has a shorter learning curve and decreased facet joint violation, operative time, hospitalization costs, and radiation exposure. In addition, MWPSF was associated with better improvement of the postoperative vertebral body angle and percentage of vertebral body height.

Alcohol use-associated disorders are highly comorbid with anxiety disorders; however, their mechanism remains unknown. The amygdala plays a central role in anxiety. We recently found that 7,8-dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF) significantly reduces withdrawal symptoms in a rat model of chronic intermittent alcohol (ethanol) exposure. This study aimed to determine the role of 7,8-DHF in regulating anxiety induced by chronic alcohol exposure and its associated underlying mechanism. Male C57BL/6J mice were exposed to chronic intermittent alcohol for 3 weeks followed by alcohol withdrawal for 12 h with or without 7,8-DHF administered intraperitoneally. All mice were tested using an open field test and elevated plus maze to assess anxiety-like behaviors. Synaptic activity and intrinsic excitability in basal and lateral amygdala (BLA) neurons were assessed using electrophysiological recordings. 7,8-DHF alleviated alcohol-induced anxiety-like behavior and attenuated alcohol-induced enhancement of activities in BLA pyramidal neurons. Furthermore, 7,8-DHF prevented alcohol withdrawal-evoked augmentation of glutamatergic transmission in the amygdala and had no effect on GABAergic transmission in the amygdala, as demonstrated by unaltered frequency and amplitude of spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents. Microinjection of K252a, a tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB) antagonist, into the BLA blocked the effects of 7,8-DHF on anxiety-like behavior and neuronal activity in the BLA. Our findings suggest that 7,8-DHF alleviates alcohol-induced anxiety-like behavior induced by chronic alcohol exposure through regulation of glutamate transmission involving TrKB in the BLA.

Diffracted seismic waves may be used to help identify and track geologically heterogeneous bodies or zones. However, the energy of diffracted waves is weaker than that of reflections. Therefore, the extraction of diffracted waves is the basis for the effective utilization of diffracted waves. Based on the difference in travel times between diffracted and reflected waves, we developed a method for separating the diffracted waves via singular value decomposition filters and presented an effective processing flowchart for diffracted wave separation and imaging. The research results show that the horizontally coherent difference between the reflected and diffracted waves can be further improved using normal move-out (NMO) correction. Then, a band-rank or high-rank approximation is used to suppress the reflected waves with better transverse coherence. Following, separation of reflected and diffracted waves is achieved after the filtered data are transformed into the original data domain by inverse NMO. Synthetic and field examples show that our proposed method has the advantages of fewer constraints, fast processing speed and complete extraction of diffracted waves. And the diffracted wave imaging results can effectively improve the identification accuracy of geological heterogeneous bodies or zones.

The low-cost sensor array, an effective way to provide sufficient degrees of freedom (DoFs) and affordable costs, is one of the most important foundation devices for large-scale applications of the Internet of Things (IoT) and sixth-generation (6G) spaceborne communication systems. In this article, we propose an irregular subarray-based low-cost sensor array design strategy, which decomposes the practical application problem into two subproblems according to the scene scale. For the small-size cases, a user-defined DoF control strategy is presented, which is flexibly defined and establishes an effective tradeoff between the sensor array radiation performance and manufacturing cost. Moreover, for large-size cases, a hierarchical subarray design strategy is presented. A module panel structure composed of subarray tiles is proposed to avoid both the convergence problem in high-dimensional optimization and engineering complexity. Both design strategies are able to ensure good sensor radiation performance while maintaining engineering convenience. The effectiveness and potential of the proposed method are verified by various numerical examples.

Spermidine alkaloids are a kind of natural products possessing an aliphatic triamine structure with three or four methylene groups between two N-atoms. Spermidine alkaloids exist in plants, microorganisms, and marine organisms, which usually form amide structures with cinnamic acid or fatty acid derivatives. Their unique structures showed a wide range of biological activities such as neuroprotective, anti-aging, anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. In order to better understand the research status of spermidine alkaloids and promote their applications in human health, this paper systematically reviewed the biological sources, structures, pharmacological actions, and synthetic processes of spermidine alkaloids over the past two decades. This will help to open up new pharmacological investigation fields and better drug design based on these spermidine alkaloids.

BACKGROUND Ewing’s sarcoma (ES) is regarded as a skeletal tumor, with few instances of extra-skeletal ES. A primary ES in the ureter is extremely rare. CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who presented with intermittent flank pain and hematuria and was found to have a mass in the left ureter. Pathology of the excised mass indicated ES. The clinical treatment and pathologic characteristics in this case, and a review of the literature describing ES in the urinary system, are presented. CONCLUSION Due to the rarity and malignancy of ES in ureter, early diagnosis and prompt surgical treatment are critical.

A hierarchically porous rice husk-based activated carbon, which had been prepared by a combined method (carbonization, NaOH-leaching and KOH activation), has a high specific capacitance and power density as a supercapacitor electrode in aqueous or organic electrolytes. It was subjected to a simple thermal treatment at 800 °C for 1 h to modify its microstructure and electrochemical performance. Results indicate that its original hierarchical pore structure is retained and the number of oxygen-containing functional groups is reduced after this modification. Mesopores developed and the volume ratio of mesopores to total pores increased from 25.62 to 33.62%. The modified activated carbon showed a higher specific capacitance of 147 F g−1 than the unmodified one (116 F g−1) at a current density of 0.5 A g−1. The voltage of the modified activated carbon was 84.5% of its initial value after self-discharge for 24 h, which is higher than that (75.2%) of the unmodified one. The capacitance retention of the modified carbon was 92% while that of the unmodified one was 85% after 10 000 galvanostatic charge/discharge cycles at 1 A g−1, indicating the better cycling stability of the former.
