Abstract

A copper catalyzed aerobic formal addition of aliphatic C(sp3)−H bonds to alkenes via a phenyl radical mediated intermolecular HAT process is reported herein, in which the phenylhydrazine not only acts as a HAT reagent precursor, but also as a hydrogen atom donor. This reaction affords an alternative method for the direct formal addition of aliphatic C(sp3)−H bonds to alkenes utilizing air as the radical initiator without additional reductants at ambient temperature. A variety of alkanes and electron‐deficient alkenes are successfully incorporated, furnishing a series of aliphatic C(sp3)−H formal addition products in 20–93% yield. Preliminary mechanistic studies show that the 2‐tetrahydrofuranyl and phenyl radical are formed in this reaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a rare complication of the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) with complex clinical features. However, AVF and AAA usually cause no symptoms except when they rupture. This case study demonstrated that ultrasonography was a rapid and non-invasive method for the initial assessment of AAA and AVF. A 65-year-old man was admitted to the intensive care unit with hepatic and renal dysfunction. Physical examination revealed an abdominal vascular murmur and bilateral toe discoloration. Ultrasonic examination revealed an AAA and right common iliac artery aneurysm with an AVF located between the right common iliac artery and inferior vena cava. A computed tomography scan confirmed the sonographic findings. We propose that ultrasound should be used more commonly as part of the initial evaluation of the potential and established vascular diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

18. Reductive Amination of Aldehyde and Ketone with Ammonia and H2by an In Situ-Generated Cobalt Catalyst under Mild Conditions

Abstract

Herein, we present the simplest approach for the synthesis of primary amines via reductive amination using H2as a reductant and aqueous ammonia as a nitrogen source, catalyzed by amorphous Co particles. The highly active Co particles were prepared in situby simply mixing commercially available CoCl2and NaBH4/NaHBEt3without any ligand or support. This reaction system features mild conditions (80 °C, 1–10 bar), high selectivity (99%), a wide substrate scope, simple operation, and easy separation of the catalyst. The successful large-scale application of this reaction in the production of primary amines suggests its potential industrial interest.
