10. Study on Extreme Precipitation Trends in Northeast China Based on Non-Stationary Generalized Extreme Value Distribution

Abstract

Northeast China is the learding food productive base of China. The extreme precipitation (EP) event seriously impacts agricultural production and social life. Given the limited understanding of the EP in Northeast China, we investigate the trend and potential risk of the EP in Northeast China(107 stations) during 1959-2017, especially in early and later summer. For the first time, the non-stationary generalized extreme value (GEV) model is used to analyze the trend and potential risk of EP in Northeast China. Moreover, the mechanisms of EP trends over Northeast China in early and later summer were studied separately. Negative trends dominate EP in early summer but positive trends prevail in last summer. It is reasonable to discuss separately in the two periods. Meanwhile, all return levels are shown to increase trends in EP in early summer, corresponding to more frequent EP events. Nevertheless, in later summer, the 2-year return level decreases in location parameter diminish slightly, and the rare EP (20, 50, and 100-year return levels) slightly increase with scale parameter. Also, our results show that normal EP frequently occurs in Liaoning Province, and extreme EP is more likely to occur in Jilin Province and Heilongjiang Province. The increase of EP in early summer is mainly influenced by the northeast cold vortex. However, in later summer, the effect of cold air on EP is stronger in Northeast China, which gives a clear explanation that the EP does not increase. Abstract

Abstract Plasma homocysteine (Hcy) has been globally recognized as an independent risk factor for various neurovascular diseases. In this study, the authors investigated the relationship between critical Hcy concentration and the risk of rupture in intracranial aneurysms (IAs). This study collected data from 423 patients with both ruptured and unruptured IAs. We compared demographic data, vascular rupture risk factors, and laboratory test results between the two groups. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to determine the correlation between critical plasma Hcy levels and the risk of rupture in small to medium-sized IAs. A total of 330 cases of ruptured intracranial aneurysms (RIA) and 93 cases of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA) were included. 13. Anti-chiral edge states based on photonic Floquet lattices

Abstract

Photonic Floquet lattices provide an excellent platform for manipulating different topologically protect-ed edge states. However, anti-chiral edge states have not been discussed much in Floquet lattices. Here, we propose a waveguide structure by combining two honeycomb Floquet photonic lattices with oppo-site rotation directions. In this structure, we find that the anti-chiral edge states have the same trans-mission direction on two parallel body edges. With an increasing modulation phase difference between the two sublattices in one direction, the width of the band gap becomes smaller and the robustness of the edge states becomes weaker. Interestingly, the transmission speed is also controlled by the phase difference. In addition to their relevance for the topological properties of the Floquet lattice system, these results may be applied to multi-channel optical switches, optical functional devices, and in other fields.

Abstract

In view of the defects of high energy consumption and pollution in the traditional optical fiber preform manufacturing process, this paper proposes a green and environmentally friendly cladding manufacturing process with quartz sand as raw material. Through the selection and analysis of quartz sand raw materials, it is shown that natural quartz sand is suitable for the manufacture of optical fiber preforms. Through the research on the key control points of the natural quartz sand preform making process, the quartz sand is filled into the prefabricated assembly consisting of a core rod and a thin-walled quartz tube. A large-size G.652.D optical fiber preform with an average outer diameter of 155 mm is then successfully prepared by high-temperature melting and shrinking. After fiber drawing and testing, the optical parameters can meet the low water peak optical fiber standard. There is no exhaust gas emission in the process raw material of quartz sand can be completely converted, which is more low-carbon and environmentally friendly than traditional optical fiber preform manufacturing process.

Abstract

Replica symmetry breaking (RSB) has been widely recognized as a statistical analysis approach to understand the disorder and nonlinear interactions in complex systems ranging from atoms to the cosmic scale. However, it is challenging to analyze the nonlinear optical characteristics of random laser (RL) in disordered gain medium via RSB due to the lack of a general RSB-based statistical analysis framework. In this work, we report the tunable RSB in polymer fiber RL, where the effects of temperature and different structures on RSB are investigated experimentally and theoretically. It experimentally proves that RSB in RL is not robust, and disorder and temperature are responsible for tunable RSB in RL, which contributes to the improvement of the statistical analysis framework for investigating the optical principles of RL using RSB. And the finding of the tunable RSB allows to investigate the dynamical differences for various RL systems, which broadens the directions for the use of spin-glass theory to explore the physical mechanism of RL.
