Abstract

Magneto-optical effect refers to a rotation of polarization plane, which has been widely studied in traditional ferromagnetic metal and insulator films and scarcely in two-dimensional layered materials. Here we uncover a new nonreciprocal magneto-inelastic light scattering effect in ferromagnetic few-layer CrI3. We observed a rotation of the polarization plane of inelastic light scattering between -20o and +60o that are tunable by an out-of-plane magnetic field from -2.5 to 2.5 T. It is experimentally observed that the degree of polarization can be magnetically manipulated between -20% and 85%. This work raises a new magneto-optical phenomenon and could create opportunities of applying 2D ferromagnetic materials in Raman lasing, topological photonics, and magneto-optical modulator for information transport and storage.

31. Study on the Electromagnetic Performance of Radome With Laminar Ablation for Reentry Applications

Abstract

High-temperature ablation leads to variations in the thickness of the radome during high-speed reentry, consequently impacting the overall performance of the antenna-radome system. This article develops models of laminar ablation shapes for a typical sphere-cone radome on reentry vehicles caused by laminar ablation during reentry. The main electromagnetic (EM) performance of the radome under different ablation states, including boresight error (BSE) and transmission loss (TL), was calculated using the time-domain finite integration method. The findings indicated that ablation causes significant variations in EM performance. Specifically, BSE exhibits significant fluctuations due to changes in the ablation thickness of the spherical nose, while TL experiences a sharp increase with a higher thickness of conical part ablation. We have redefined the asymmetry of insertion phase delay (IPD), taking into account the influence of the antenna and offering more comprehensive insights on the cause of BSE by conducting analysis on the IPD distribution. This work contributes to the prediction of the EM performance of radomes with laminar ablation during reentry and provides guidance for subsequent compensation measures.

Abstract

Smart thermal emission, which is response to external stimuli, has provided an unparalleled approach to exploiting optical devices that allows for tunable photon radiance. Here, an approach of implementing information encryptions using a smart thermal emission material that exhibits non‐volatile, multifunctional, and on‐chip‐integrable properties is reported. The smart material is a bilayer structure, consisting of a tungsten (W)‐doped vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin film layer and a self‐assembled polystyrene (PS) microsphere layer. Significant differences between the phase transition temperatures of differently doped VO2 films enable reconfigurable thermal emission in response to heat. Levels of information recorded by the patterning of these VO2 films are thus encrypted thermo‐radiatively. Additionally, the structural color of PS layer, as a result of photonic crystal bandgap effect, shades the encoded patterns from visible observation, and provides an anti‐counterfeiting function. Notable observation angle independence and device‐friendly encoding processes are also demonstrated. Based on these thermo‐tunable emission characteristics, the concept of multilevel data encryption via infrared radiation detection, temperature dependence, and visible anti‐counterfeiting, is realized by the smart bilayer material. 42. Ultra-wideband and wide-angle RCS reduction of a concave structure based on a chessboard polarization conversion metasurfaces.

Abstract

In this paper, ultra-wideband and wide-angle radar cross section (RCS) reduction of a concave structure is designed and realized based on a chessboard polarization conversion metasurface (CPCM), employing an ultra-wideband polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) composed of a single layer of square split-ring resonators. The concave structure, which is equivalent to an octagonal-like prism, is divided into eight regions. To achieve perfect phase cancellation in the non-central region, it can be equivalent to oblique incidence when the central region is under normal incidence, and phase compensation of the unit cell of metasurfaces in the non-central region is considered. The simulated results demonstrate that the RCS reduction of the proposed concave structure is less than −10 dB in the frequency ranges of 8.8 GHz to 35.75 GHz with fractional bandwidths of 120.99% and exceeds −30 dB at numerous resonant frequencies such as 9.52 GHz, 13.89 GHz, 23.45 GHz, and 35.2 GHz under normal incidence. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulations. Furthermore, the RCS reduction characteristics of the proposed concave structure at different azimuth angles are also evaluated. Numerical calculations and experiments show that the wide-angle RCS reduction from 0° to 34° is achieved. To the best of the information we have, this is the first time that the chessboard metasurfaces, which consist of several polarizing reflectors, have been employed to obtain broadband and wide-angle RCS reduction for the concave structure. Abstract

Exploring the fine-structure of cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) is not only vital to fundamental understanding of recombination mechanism of exciton but also crucial for improving the performance of quantum light emitters and spintronic devices. Herein, utilizing low-temperature magneto-photoluminescence (PL) measurement, we provide the direct PL spectral feature of the dark exciton in CsPbBr3single crystal, and demonstrate that the singlet dark exciton is located ∼20 meV below the triplet bright exciton. Furthermore, no significant polarization effect was measured from magnetic-polarization method, indicating that there is no spin selectivity for dark exciton.
