Background: Atrophic scarring is a severe form-disfiguring sequela of acne, which can lead to negative effect on patients’ life. Fractional microplasma radiofrequency (RF) has emerged as a promising modality, leveraging dermal fibroblast remodeling to enhance aesthetic results for scars and hyperpigmentation. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of high-power fractional microplasma RF for atrophic acne scars, considering patient tolerance to procedural discomfort. Methods: In this prospective study, 95 Chinese patients with atrophic facial acne scars underwent three sessions of fractional microplasma RF treatment, with assessments at 1, 3, and 6 months post-treatment. Patients were categorized based on treatment power: Group A (50-70 W) and Group B (70-85 W). Efficacy was determined by three independent dermatologists using digital photographs and Echelle d'Evaluation Clinique des Cicatrices d'Acné (ECCA) scores, and patient-reported outcomes gauged satisfaction levels. ObjectiveThis study used finite element analysis to simulate four commonly used fixation methods for metacarpal shaft oblique fractures during finger motion and evaluate their biomechanical performance. The aim was to provide evidence for clinically selecting the optimal fixation method, guiding early rehabilitation treatment, and reducing the risk of complications.MethodsFinite element analysis simulated dynamic proximal phalanx motion (60° flexion, 20° extension, 20° adduction, and 20° abduction). We analysed stress, displacement, and distributions for dorsal plates, intramedullary nails, Kirschner wire, and screw fixation methods.ResultsAt 60° of finger flexion and 20° of abduction, plate fixation demonstrated greater stability and minimal displacement, with a peak displacement of 0.19 mm; however, it showed higher stress levels in all motion states, increasing the risk of failure. The stability of the intramedullary nail was similar to that of the dorsal plate, with a maximum displacement difference of 0.04 mm, and it performed better than the dorsal plate during adduction of 20°. Kirschner wire showed the highest stress levels of 81.6 Mpa during finger flexion of 60°, indicating a greater risk of failure and unstable displacement. Screws had lower stress levels in all finger motion states, reducing the risk of failure, but had poorer stability. Stress and displacement distributions showed that the dorsal plate, intramedullary nail, and Kirschner wire mainly bore stress on the implants, concentrating near the fracture line and the proximal metacarpal. In contrast, the screws partially bore stress in the screw group. The anterior end of the metacarpal mainly hosted the maximum displacement.ConclusionThis study demonstrates that under simulated finger motion states, the dorsal plate fixation method provides the best stability in most cases, especially during finger flexion and abduction. However, high stress levels also indicate a higher risk of failure. The intramedullary nail is similar to the dorsal plate in stability and performs better in certain motion states. Kirschner wire exhibits the highest risk of failure during flexion. Although screws have poorer stability in some motion states, they offer a lower risk of failure. These findings provide important reference and surgical selection strategies for treating metacarpal fractures.

In the growing season of 2021, a severe drought occurred in Central Asia impacting various local ecosystems and socio-economic conditions. However, there is limited research on the spatiotemporal characteristics of this drought and its effects on local vegetation. To address this gap, this study utilizes the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) to quantitatively evaluate the spatiotemporal drought characteristics, and standardized anomalies to assess drought impacts on vegetation greenness and productivity. The drought-induced reduction in vegetation greenness and production was also decomposed into environmental drivers based on a random forest model. Our findings can be summarized as follows: During the 2021 growing season, Central Asia experienced one of the most severe drought events in the past 40 years, with approximately 42.57 % of the region facing record-breaking drought conditions. Abnormally low precipitation (PRE), prolonged high temperatures (TMP) and evapotranspiration also occurred during the drought event. The drought had a significant detrimental effect on vegetation, leading to an approximately 10 % reduction in vegetation greenness and around 13 % in productivity. Soil moisture (SM) was found to be the most critical factor influencing vegetation greenness loss during drought conditions. Leaf Area Index (LAI) and SM emerged as the primary drivers for the reduction of Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) and Solar-Induced Fluorescence (SIF). The antecedent environmental conditions had a significant impact on the decline in vegetation greenness and productivity during the 2021 drought event, accounting for approximately 30 %–35 % and 52–69 % of the respective losses. The findings of this study highlight the importance of taking into account antecedent climate factors when studying the impacts of drought on vegetation.

Abstract Background The shoulder joint is the most commonly dislocated joint in the human body, and the recurrence rate exceeds 50% after nonsurgical treatment. Although surgical treatment reduces the recurrence rate, there is controversy regarding the optimal surgical approach. Previous studies suggest that the Latarjet procedure yields favourable outcomes for specific populations at risk of recurrence, such as competitive athletes with significant glenoid defects. However, most of the existing related research consists of nonrandomized controlled trials with small sample sizes, and there is a lack of strong evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of the Latarjet procedure. Methods The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched. Athletes with ≥ 20% glenoid defects were selected for inclusion. The following data were extracted: general patient information, instability rates, return to sports (RTS) rates, imaging features (graft positioning rate and graft healing rate), functional assessments [Rowe score, Athletic Shoulder Outcome Scoring System(ASOSS), visual analogue scale (VAS), forward flexion function, and external rotation function], and complications. Results After excluding suspected duplicate cases, a total of 5 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The studies involved a total of 255 patients, including 237 males (93%) and 18 females (7%). The average age at the time of surgery was 25.4 ± 8.5 years. All the studies had a minimum follow-up period of 2 years, with an average follow-up time of 48.7 ± 18.9 months. The pooled rate of return to sport (RTS) was 94.3% (95% CI: 87.3%, 98.8%), and 86.1% (95% CI: 78.2%, 92.5%) of patients returned to their preoperative level of activity. The pooled redislocation rate was 1.1% (95% CI: 0%, 3.8%). Regarding the imaging results, the combined graft retention rate was 92.1% (95% CI: 88.1%, 95.5%), and the graft healing rate was 92.1% (95% CI: 88%, 95.4%). Postoperative functional evaluation revealed that the combined Rowe score, ASOSS score, and VAS score were 93.7 ± 6.5 points, 88.5 ± 4.4 points, and 1.1 ± 10 points, respectively. The forward flexion and external rotation angles were 170.9 ± 6.9 degrees and 65.6 ± 4.5 degrees, respectively. After excluding one study with unclear complications, the combined complication rate was 9.4% (95% CI: 1.0%, 23.6%). Conclusion For athletes with shoulder instability and a total of ≥ 20% glenoid bone defects, the Latarjet procedure can achieve excellent functional outcomes, with the majority of patients returning to preoperative levels of sports activity. This procedure also leads to a low recurrence rate. Therefore, the Latarjet procedure has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment.

The tourism network attention as a reflection of tourism demand is closely related to the tourism flow, the differences between the two has become an important criterion for judging the efficiency of destination tourism demand conversion, as well as a manifestation of the balance and coordination of destination tourism industry. Against the background of insufficient release of tourism demand in China, research on the development differences between tourism network attention and tourism flow can provide a basis for demand-side management and high-quality development. Based on the theory of spatial mismatch, this research analyzes the spatial development difference between the tourism network attention and the tourism flow in Shanghai from 2012 to 2021 using methods such as center of gravity model, spatial mismatch index, and two-dimensional combination matrix. The results show: (1) According to the analysis of the center of gravity model, there was a shift of the center of gravity of tourism network attention with the direction of ''south-north'', while the tourism flow shifted ''west-east''; the center of gravity between tourism network attention and tourism flow began to diverge from 2012 to 2016, gradually converged from 2016 to 2019, and then gradually deviated again after 2020. (2) According to the spatial mismatch index, the spatial mismatch types between tourism network attention and tourism flow in various Districts of Shanghai are mainly negative and low mismatch, with high mismatch areas mainly distributed in the eastern and southwestern parts of Shanghai. (3) Combining the two-dimensional combination matrix, it can be observed that the spatial development difference between tourism network attention and tourism flow in Shanghai show a characteristic of ''enlarging-shrinking-enlarging''. From 2012 to 2016, the spatial development difference between tourism network attention and tourism flow in Shanghai continuously expanded; from 2017 to 2019, the spatial development difference continuously shrank; and from 2020 to 2021, the spatial differences expanded again. (4) The analysis results of the panel data model show that the development of tourism resources and the level of tourism services have a positive promoting effect on the evolution of spatial mismatch, while the social basic development environment has a negative effect. The research results not only meet the needs of evaluating the high-quality development of the tourism industry in the current economic restructuring, providing direction for the high-quality development of the regional tourism industry, but also enrich the research content of network attention as a tourism element participating in the evaluation of tourism industry development quality, and deepen the relationship research between network attention and tourism flow.

Abstract Purpose Prolonged exposure to plasma free fatty acids (FFAs) leads to impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) which can progress to type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the absence of timely and effective interventions. High-fat diet (HFD) leads to chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, impairing pancreatic beta cell (PBC) function. While Didymin, a flavonoid glycoside derived from citrus fruits, has beneficial effects on inflammation dysfunction, its specific role in HFD-induced IGT remains yet to be elucidated. Hence, this study aims to investigate the protective effects of Didymin on PBCs. Methods HFD-induced IGT mice and INS-1 cells were used to explore the effect and mechanism of Didymin in alleviating IGT. Serum glucose and insulin levels were measured during the glucose tolerance and insulin tolerance tests to evaluate PBC function and insulin resistance. Next, RNA-seq analysis was performed to identify the pathways potentially influenced by Didymin in PBCs. Furthermore, we validated the effects of Didymin both in vitro and in vivo. Mitochondrial electron transport inhibitor (Rotenone) was used to further confirm that Didymin exerts its ameliorative effect by enhancing mitochondria function. Results Didymin reduces postprandial glycemia and enhances 30-minute postprandial insulin levels in IGT mice. Moreover, Didymin was found to enhance mitochondria biogenesis and function, regulate insulin secretion, and alleviate inflammation and apoptosis. However, these effects were abrogated with the treatment of Rotenone, indicating that Didymin exerts its ameliorative effect by enhancing mitochondria function. Conclusions Didymin exhibits therapeutic potential in the treatment of HFD-induced IGT. This beneficial effect is attributed to the amelioration of PBC dysfunction through improved mitochondrial function.

In the global precipitation measurement (GPM) era, the integrated multisatellite retrievals for GPM (IMERG) stands as a pivotal precipitation algorithm. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of IMERG in capturing precipitation frequency and volume in the Yellow River Basin, China. Four satellite-based precipitation estimates (SPEs) from three algorithmic versions of IMERG were analyzed on an hourly scale using gauge observations. An improved error component procedure was employed to identify error sources. Results showed that all four IMERG products effectively captured the spatial distribution patterns and seasonal changes of precipitation, IMERG_F demonstrated the best overall performance, followed by IMERG_L, while IMERG_E performed the worst. However, they tended to overestimate precipitation. IMERG_F_Cal performed the best for precipitation frequency detection, with the highest probability of detection (POD = 52.7%) and the lowest missed events (MIS = 47.3%). Error component analysis highlights false bias as the main source of error, followed by missed bias. In winter, missed bias was the primary error source. Notably, a significant overestimation of precipitation was observed along the Yellow River. In detail, false bias dominated IMERG_E, IMERG_L, and IMERG_F_UnCal below 800 m in spring, summer, and autumn. However, in winter, missed bias became the primary error source for these three products at elevations above 200m and for IMERG_F_Cal above 500 m. IMERG_F_Cal exhibited false bias as the primary error source in all seasons. Suggested algorithm developers focus on improving IMERG SPEs' identification capabilities for light precipitation events and rainstorms. Findings can provide a reference for improving the IMERG product algorithms and enhancing users’ understanding of the error characteristics and sources of IMERG products.

Abstract In neuroimaging research, univariate analysis has always been used to localize “representations” at the microscale, whereas network approaches have been applied to characterize transregional “operations”. How are representations and operations linked through dynamic interactions? We developed the variational relevance evaluation (VRE) method to analyze individual task fMRI data, which selects informative voxels during model training to localize the “representation”, and quantifies the dynamic contributions of single voxels across the whole-brain to different cognitive functions to characterize the “operation”. Using 15 individual fMRI data files for higher visual area localizers, we evaluated the characterization of selected voxel positions of VRE and revealed different object-selective regions functioning in similar dynamics. Using another 15 individual fMRI data files for memory retrieval after offline learning, we found similar task-related regions working in different neural dynamics for tasks with diverse familiarities. VRE demonstrates a promising horizon in individual fMRI research.

ObjectiveTo explore the correlations between diabetic nephropathy (DN) and serum levels of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4), iron, transferrin (Tf), and ferritin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsAccording to the urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER) or estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) levels, a total of 123 patients with T2DM were separately divided into normoalbuminuria (NO), microalbuminuria (MI), macroalbuminuria (MA) groups, and G1 (eGFR ≥ 90 mL/min), G2 (eGFR ≤ 60 mL/min to < 90 mL/min), and G3 groups (eGFR< 60 mL/min), with 33 healthy participants as the control (HC). The differences in serum GPX4, ACSL4, iron, Tf, and ferritin levels between groups were compared, and the relationships between these levels were analysed. The independent correlations between UAER or DN severity and serum GPX4, ACSL4, iron, Tf, and ferritin levels were analysed by multiple linear and multinomial logistic regression, respectively.ResultsTo the patients with T2DM, with the increase in UAER levels, GPX4, iron, and Tf levels gradually decreased, whereas ACSL4 levels increased, meanwhile with the decrease in eGFR levels, GPX4 and Tf levels gradually decreased, whereas ACSL4 levels increased. UAER were independently and positively correlated with ACSL4 [β = 17.53, 95% confidence interval (CI; 11.94, 23.13)] and negatively correlated with GPX4 [β = −1.633, 95% CI (−2.77, -0.496)] and Tf [β = −52.94, 95% CI (-95.78, −10.11)].The NO and MI groups were considered as reference groups, respectively. Abstract Background All-inside anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is a novel technique that has gained attention due to its minimally invasive. However, evidence surrounding the efficacy and safety between all-inside and complete tibial tunnel ACLR are lacking. Present work was aimed to compare clinical outcome for ACLR performed with an all-inside versus a complete tibial tunnel technique. Methods Systematic searches were conducted of published literature on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane for studies according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines up to May 10, 2022. The outcomes included KT-1000 arthrometer ligament laxity test, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective score, Lysholm score, Tegner activity scale, and Knee Society Score (KSS) Scale, and tibial tunnel widening. Complications of interest extracted were graft re-ruptures and evaluated the graft re-rupture rate. Data from published RCTs meeting inclusion criteria were extracted and analyzed, and all the extracted data are pooled and analyzed by RevMan 5.3. Results A total of 8 randomized controlled trials involving 544 patients (consisting of 272 all-inside and 272 complete tibial tunnel patients) were included in the meta-analysis. To ensure water use and water resource security along “the Belt and Road”, the runoff and hydrological droughts and floods under future climate change conditions in the upper Heihe River Basin were projected in this study, based on the observed meteorological and runoff data from 1987 to 2014, and data from 10 GCMs from 1987 to 2014 and from 2026 to 2100, using the SWAT model, the Standardized Runoff Index, run length theory, and the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method. Both the multi-GCM ensemble (MME) and the optimal model were used to assess future hydrological drought and flood responses to climate change. The results showed that (1) the future multi-year average runoff from the MME was projected to be close to the historical period under the SSP245 scenario and to increase by 2.3% under the SSP585 scenario, and those from the optimal model CMCC-ESM2 were projected to decrease under both scenarios; (2) both the MME and the optimal model showed that drought duration and flood intensity in the future were projected to decrease, while drought intensity, drought peak, flood duration, and flood peak were projected to increase under both scenarios in their multi-year average levels; (3) drought duration was projected to decrease most after 2080, and drought intensity, flood duration, and flood peak were projected to increase most after 2080, according to the MME. The MME and the optimal model reached a consensus on the sign of hydrological extreme characteristic responses to climate change, but showed differences in the magnitude of trends.

A thorough evaluation of the recently released Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) is critical for both end-users and algorithm developers. In this study, six products from three versions of GSMaP version 8, including real time (NOW-R and NOW-C), near real time (NRT-R and NRT-C), and post-real time (MVK-R and MVK-C), are systematically and quantitatively evaluated based on time-by-time observations from 2167 stations in mainland China. Among each version, both products with and without gauge correction are adopted to detect the gauge correction effect. Error quantification is carried out on an hourly timescale. Three common statistical indices (i.e., correlation coefficient (CC), relative bias (RB), and root mean square error (RMSE)) and three event detection capability indices (i.e., probability of detection (POD), false alarm ratio (FAR), and critical success index (CSI)) were adopted to analyze the inversion errors in precipitation amount and precipitation event frequency across the various products. Additionally, in this study, we examine the dependence of GSMaP errors on rainfall intensity and elevation. The following main results can be concluded: (1) MVK-C exhibits the best ability to retrieve rainfall on the hourly timescale, with higher CC values (0.31 in XJ to 0.47 in SC), smaller RMSE values (0.14 mm/h in XJ to 0.99 mm/h in SC), and lower RB values (−4.78% in XJ to 16.03% in NC). (2) Among these three versions, the gauge correction procedure plays a crucial role in reducing errors, especially in the post-real-time version. After being corrected, MVK-C demonstrates an obvious CC value improvement (>0.3 on the hourly timescale) in various sub-regions, increasing the percentage of sites with CC values above 0.5 from 0.03% (MVK-R) to 28.47% (MVK-C). (3) GSMaP products generally exhibit error dependencies on precipitation intensity and elevation, particularly in areas with drastic elevation changes (such as 1200–1500 m and 3000–3300 m), where the accuracy of satellite precipitation estimates is significantly affected. (4) CC values decreased with an increasing rainfall intensity; RB and RMSE values increased with an increasing rainfall intensity. The results of this study may be helpful for algorithm developers and end-users and provide a scientific reference for different hydrological applications and disaster risk reduction.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious complication of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, which leads to the aggravation of myocardial fibrosis, disorders involving systolic and diastolic functions, and increased mortality of patients with diabetes through mechanisms such as glycolipid toxicity, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress. Ferroptosis is a form of iron-dependent regulatory cell death that is attributed to the accumulation of lipid peroxides and an imbalance in redox regulation. Increased production of lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) during ferroptosis promotes oxidative stress and damages myocardial cells, leading to myocardial systolic and diastolic dysfunction. Overproduction of ROS is an important bridge between ferroptosis and DCM, and ferroptosis inhibitors may provide new targets for the treatment of patients with DCM.

Background and objectiveGlycation is a common post-transcriptional modification of proteins. Previous studies have shown that advanced glycation end modified transferrin (AGE-Tf) levels in diabetic rat kidney tissues were increased; however, its role in diabetic nephropathy remains unclear. In this study, differences in glycation degree and Tf sites induced by differing high glucose concentrations in vitro and the effect on total iron binding capacity (TIBC) were observed. Moreover, the effect of AGE-Tf on human renal tubular epithelial cells (HK-2) was investigated.MethodsIn vitro Tf was incubated with increasing glucose concentrations (0 mM, 5.6 mM, 11.1 mM, 33.3 mM, 100 mM, 500 mM, and 1,000 mM) for AGE-Tf. Differences in AGE-Tf glycation degree and TIBC level were analyzed via colorimetric method. The AGE-Tf glycation sites were identified with LC-MS/MS. HK-2 cells were treated with AGE-Tf prepared with different glucose concentrations (33.3 mM and 500 mM) in vitro. The effects of AGE-Tf on HK-2 cell viability, proliferation, oxidative stress index, and Tf receptor expression levels were then observed.ResultsWith increasing glucose concentrations (100 mM, 500 mM, and 1,000 mM) in vitro, Tf glycation degree was significantly increased. The TIBC levels of AGE-Tf were decreased significantly with increasing glucose concentrations (33.3 mM, 100 mM, 500 mM, and 1,000 mM). Four glycated modification sites in Tf and 17 glycated modification sites were detected in AGE-Tf (500 mM) by LC-MS/MS. The structural types of AGEs were CML, G-H1, FL-1H2O, FL, and MG-H1. No significant differences were found in the survival rate of HK-2 cells among the AGE-Tf (500 mM), AGE-Tf (33.3 mM), and Tf groups (all p > 0.05). The apoptosis rate of HK-2 cells in the AGE-Tf (500 mM) group was significantly higher than that in the AGE-Tf (33.3 mM) group. Additionally, both of them were significantly higher than that in the Tf group (both p < 0.05). The MDA levels of HK-2 cells in the AGE-Tf (500 mM) and AGE-Tf (33.3 mM) groups were higher than that in the Tf group, but not significantly (both p > 0.05). The T-AOC level of HK-2 in the AGE-Tf (500 mM) group was significantly lower than that in the AGE-Tf (33.3 mM) and Tf groups (both p < 0.001). The GSH level of HK-2 cells in the AGE-Tf (500 mM) group was significantly lower than that in the Tf group (p < 0.05). The expression level of TfR in the AGE-Tf (500 mM) group was also significantly lower than that in the Tf group (p < 0.05).ConclusionThe degree and sites of Tf glycation were increased in vitro secondary to high-glucose exposure; however, the binding ability of Tf to iron decreased gradually. After HK-2 was stimulated by AGE-Tf in vitro, the apoptosis of cells was increased, antioxidant capacity was decreased, and TfR expression levels were downregulated.

Query language identification (Q-LID) plays a crucial role in a cross-lingual search engine. There exist two main challenges in Q-LID: (1) insufficient contextual information in queries for disambiguation; and (2) the lack of query-style training examples for low-resource languages. In this article, we propose a neural Q-LID model by alleviating the above problems from both model architecture and data augmentation perspectives. Concretely, we build our model upon the advanced Transformer model. In order to enhance the discrimination of queries, a variety of external features (e.g., character, word, as well as script) are fed into the model and fused by a multi-scale attention mechanism. Moreover, to remedy the low resource challenge in this task, a novel machine translation–based strategy is proposed to automatically generate synthetic query-style data for low-resource languages. We contribute the first Q-LID test set called QID-21, which consists of search queries in 21 languages. Experimental results reveal that our model yields better classification accuracy than strong baselines and existing LID systems on both query and traditional LID tasks.1

Tandem solar cells usually use a wide band gap absorber for top cell. The band gap of CuIn(1−x)GaxSe2 can be changed from 1.04 eV to 1.68 eV with the ratio of Ga/(In+Ga) from 0 to 1. When the ratio of Ga/(In+Ga) is over 0.7, the band gap of CIGS absorber is over 1.48 eV. CIGS absorber with a high Ga content is a possible candidate one for the top cell. In this work, CuInGa precursors were prepared by magnetron sputtering with CuIn and CuGa targets, and CIGS absorbers were prepared by selenization annealing. The Ga/(In+Ga) is changed by changing the thickness of CuIn and CuGa layers. Additionally, CIGS solar cells were prepared using CdS buffer layer. The effects of Ga content on CIGS thin film and CIGS solar cell were studied. The band gap was measured by PL and EQE. The results show that using structure of CuIn/CuGa precursors can make the band gap of CIGS present a gradient band gap, which can obtain a high open circuit voltage and high short circuit current of the device. With the decrease in Ga content, the efficiency of the solar cell increases gradually. Additionally, the highest efficiency of the CIGS solar cells is 11.58% when the ratio of Ga/(In+Ga) is 0.72. The value of Voc is 702 mV. CIGS with high Ga content shows a great potential for the top cell of the tandem solar cell.

Understanding the impact of climate change on runoff and its extremes is of great significance for water resource assessment and adaptation strategies, especially in water-scarce regions. This study aims to analyze the impact of future climate change on runoff and its extremes in the upper reaches of the Heihe River basin in northwest China. The projected runoff was derived using the Soil Water Assessment Tool with climate data from the CSIRO-MK-3-6-0 model under the scenario of RCP4.5, and a frequency analysis of runoff was performed by generalized extreme value distribution. The results indicate that, compared with the baseline period of 1961 to 2000, the minimum and maximum temperatures in the period 2031 to 2070 were predicted to increase by 2.5 °C on average. The precipitation in most months was also predicted to increase, with an average rise of 16.5%. The multi-year average runoff was projected to increase by 8%. The annual mean and extreme flows were also expected to rise under future climate change at different return periods, and the low flow was expected to increase the most.

Sugarcane bagasse as a biomass solid waste has good prospects as a carbon source for biological wastewater treatment. However, it has rarely been investigated for aerobic denitrification (AD). Herein, we investigated its carbon release performance and constructed a bagasse-loaded sequencing batch biofilm reactor (SBBR) to investigate the feasibility of sugarcane bagasse as a carbon source and filler for AD bacteria to treat wastewater with low carbon–nitrogen ratios (C/N). Results showed that chemical oxygen demand (COD) leaching from sugarcane bagasse was 418.07 ± 17.05 mg/g; high-temperature and high-pressure operation had no significant effect on the carbon release performance of the bagasse. A shake-flask experiment revealed that adding sugarcane bagasse significantly enhanced the AD flora denitrification effect in low C/N wastewater; the removal process of NO3−–N by AD flora followed first-order kinetics. In the SBBR inoculated with AD flora, biofilm formation on the bagasse surface was evident; the NO3−–N removal rate reached 20.20 ± 4.27% after 28 operation cycles, which was significantly higher than that of the control sequencing batch reactor during the same period, and the effluent COD stabilized below 50 mg/L. The results provide a reference for AD application in the practical wastewater treatment and biomass resource utilization of sugarcane bagasse.

Characterizing gas hydrate-bearing marine sediments using seismic methods is essential for locating potential hydrate resources. However, most existing pre-stack seismic inversion methods estimate the properties of sediments containing gas hydrates without considering specific characteristics associated with gas hydrate occurrences. In the present study, a pore-filling–solid matrix decoupling amplitude variation with offset (AVO) formula is proposed to represent seismic reflectivity in terms of properties associated with gas hydrates. Based on the rock physics relationships of solid substitution, the parameters introduced into the decoupling AVO equation estimate the concentration of gas hydrates with different occurrences, including pore fillings mixed with water and solid components forming part of the dry sediment frame. A theoretical model test indicates that seismic attributes obtained with the decoupling AVO inversion are superior to the conventional wave velocities-related properties in predicting gas hydrate saturations. A realistic model test further validates the applicability of the proposed method in characterizing a gas hydrate system with varying concentrations and layer thickness. By adjusting the tuning parameters, the configurations and concentrations of the gas hydrate system can be identified using the obtained attributes. Therefore, the presented method provides a useful tool for the characterization of gas hydrate-bearing sediments.

Gas hydrates are considered a potential energy source for the future. Rock physics modeling provides insights into the elastic response of sediments containing gas hydrates, which is essential for identifying gas hydrates using well-log data and seismic attributes. This paper establishes a rock physics model (RPM) by employing effective medium theories to quantify the elastic properties of sediments containing gas hydrates. Specifically, the proposed RPM introduces critical gas hydrate saturation for various modeling schemes. Such a key factor considers the impact of gas hydrates on sediment stiffnesses during the dynamic process of the gas hydrate accumulating as pore fillings and part of the solid components. Theoretical modeling illustrates that elastic characteristics of the sediments exhibit distinct variation trends determined by critical gas hydrate saturation. Numerical tests of the model based on the well-log data confirm that the proposed technique can be employed to rationally predict gas hydrate saturation using the elastic properties. The compressional wave velocity model is also developed to estimate the gas hydrate saturation, which gives reliable fit results to core measurement data. The proposed methods could improve our understanding of the elastic behaviors of gas hydrates, providing a practical approach to estimating their concentrations.

Satellite-based precipitation products (SPPs) provide valuable precipitation information for various applications. Their performance, however, varies significantly from region to region due to various data sources and production processes. This paper aims to evaluate four selected SPPs (Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks Climate Data Record (PERSIANN-CDR), Multi-Source Weighted-Ensemble Precipitation (MSWEP), Gauge-adjusted Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMAP-gauge), and Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM)) over mainland China from 2016 to 2019. Both conventional statistical indicators (e.g., correlation coefficients (CC), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), relative bias (RB), and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE)) and categorical indicators (probability of detection (POD), probability of true detection (POTD), false-alarm rate (FAR), and critical success index (CSI)) are used for quantitative analysis. The results show that: (1) GSMAP-gauge and GPM perform best in reproducing the spatial distribution pattern of precipitation over mainland China, whereas SPPs generally underestimate summer precipitation with a high frequency of no-rain cases. (2) MSWEP has the best capability for recording precipitation events, although some parts of northern China exhibit abnormal overestimations for winter precipitation. (3) All SPPs, especially the PERSIANN-CDR, significantly underestimate the precipitation in the mountainous areas of southwestern China. (4) The GSMAP-gauge and GPM outperformed the other two of the four SPPs, in terms of the probability density function of daily precipitation for cases (PDFc) and the probability density function of daily precipitation for volume (PDFv). Generally, PERSIANN-CDR shows the poorest performance when compared to the other three products. The product’s algorithm for estimating heavy precipitation and mountainous precipitation needs further improvement.

Thanks to the large scope, high spatial resolution, and increasing data records, satellite-based precipitation products are playing an increasingly important role in drought monitoring. First, based on the data from ground sites, the long-term Multi-Source Weighted-Ensemble Precipitation (MSWEP) precipitation product was evaluated in respect to drought monitoring. Then, based on the MSWEP product, the drought trends and the spatiotemporal characteristics of the drought events in four major basins (Amu Darya Basin, Syr Darya Basin, Chu-Talas River Basin, and Ili River Basin) in Central Asia, which have relatively dense gauge sites, were studied. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and the run theory were used to identify drought events and describe their characteristics. The results showed that MSWEP can effectively capture drought events and their basic characteristics. In the past 40 years, the study area experienced 27 drought events, among which the severest one (DS = 15.66) occurred from June 2007 to September 2008. The drought event that occurred from June 1984 to October 1984 had a drought peak value of 3.39, with the largest drought area (99.2%). Since 1881, there appeared a drying trend and a wetting trend in the Amu Darya River basin and the Ili River basin, respectively. No obvious wetting or drying trend was found in both the Chu-Talas River basin and the Syr Darya basin. Since 2016, the drought area has been on the increase.

Nonlinear composite materials serve to homogenize electric fields and can effectively improve the local concentration of the electric field in power systems. In order to study the nonlinear surface conductivity properties of micro-nano epoxy composites, two types of epoxy micro-nano composite specimens were prepared in the laboratory using the co-blending method. The surface conductivity of the composites was tested under different conditions using a high-voltage DC surface conductivity test system. The results show that the surface conductivity of micro-nano structured composites increases and then decreases with the rise of nanofiller doping concentration. The nonlinear coefficient was 1.781 at 4 wt% of doped nanostructured SiC, which was the most significant nonlinear coefficient compared to other doping contents. For the same doping concentration, the micro-nano structured composites doped with nanostructured SiC have more significant surface conductivity at the same test temperature with a nonlinear coefficient of 1.635. As the temperature increases, the surface conductivity of the micro-nano structured composite increases significantly, and the threshold field strength moves towards the high electric field. Along with the increase in temperature, the nonlinear coefficients of micro-nano composites after doping with nanostructured SiC showed a gradually decreasing trend. The temperature has little effect on the nonlinear coefficients of the micro-nano structured composites after doping with O-MMT.

Lynch syndrome (LS) is an inherited autosomal dominant disorder caused by germline mutations of mismatch repair (MMR) genes, including MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and MLH1. This study aimed to analyze the molecular defects and clinical manifestations of an affected family and propose appropriate individual prevention strategies for all mutation carriers. A novel splicing mutation (c.1661+2 T>G) was identified in the MSH2 gene, which was found to co-segregate among affected family members by Whole exome sequencing (WES). RT-PCR analysis confirmed that c.1661+2 T>G could produce 3 transcripts, including 1 normal transcript and 2 aberrant transcripts. The 2 aberrant transcripts resulted in premature termination at the 6th nucleotide codon of MSH2 exon 11, so that the predicted products of the mutant MSH2 mRNAs were truncated proteins of 505 amino acids (with all of exon 10 deleted) and 528 amino acids (with a deletion of 82-nucleotides in exon 10), resulting in the loss of the interaction domain, the ATP domain and post-translationally modified residues. Quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that MSH2 mRNA levels in all patients were reduced to only 1/4 of the control levels. Our study reveals that a novel splicing mutation (c.1661+2 T>G) in the MSH2 gene causes LS and reaffirms the importance of genetic testing for LS.

Abstract Background To evaluate the diagnostic value of 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET-CT with multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) for lymph node (LN) staging in patients with intermediate- to high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND). Methods We retrospectively identified 42 consecutive patients with intermediate- to high-risk PCa according to D′Amico and without concomitant cancer. Preoperative 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET-CT, pelvic mpMRI and subsequent robot assisted laparoscopic RP with PLND were performed in all patients. Results Among 42 patients assessed, the preoperative PSA value, Gleason score, pT stage and intraprostatic PCa volume of patients with LN metastases were all significantly higher than those without metastases (P = 0.029, 0.028, 0.004, respectively). Cerium-based sealing treatment was developed for Mg-Al hydrotalcite film on AZ91D Mg alloy, and the influence of cerium salt solution was investigated to modify the surface integrity and corrosion resistance. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were carried out to analyze the surface morphology and phase composition. The corrosion resistance of Mg-Al hydrotalcite film after sealing treatment was evaluated by the polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests. The results showed that lower concentration of Ce-containing solution was beneficial to seal the micro-cracks on Mg-Al hydrotalcite film, and improve the surface integrity and corrosion resistance; higher concentration of Ce-containing solution could seal fewer micro-cracks, and the corrosion resistance was decreased owing to the disintegration of Mg-Al hydrotalcite film. The revisit intention of tourists has long been a focal point of academic inquiry. However, there is still insufficient research on the antecedents of revisit intention from the perspectives of historical storytelling, destination image and perceived value. Taking the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a case study, this paper, based on stimulus–organism–response (SOR) theory, examines the impact of historical storytelling on the destination image, perceived value, and revisit intention. Additionally, it further explores the mediating role of destination image and perceived value, as well as the moderating effect of place attachment in this chain. The research findings indicate that: (1) Historical storytelling significantly enhances tourists' perception of the tourism experience and revisit intention; (2) The study supports the mediating effect of destination image and perceived value; (3) Place attachment has a significant positive moderating effect between historical storytelling and revisit intention. Effective historical storytelling can significantly enhance destination image and perceived value, improve tourists' participation and satisfaction in tourism, stimulate revisit intention, and promote the sustainable development of tourist destinations. These findings enrich the research content of cultural heritage tourism, providing valuable suggestions for improving the management level of cultural heritage tourism attractions and increasing visitors' revisit intention. Objective: To explore the correlations between diabetic nephropathy (DN) and serum levels of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4), iron, transferrin (Tf), and ferritin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: According to the urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER) or estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) levels, a total of 123 patients with T2DM were separately divided into normoalbuminuria (NO), microalbuminuria (MI), macroalbuminuria (MA) groups, and G1 (eGFR ≥ 90 mL/min), G2 (eGFR ≤ 60 mL/min to < 90 mL/min), and G3 groups (eGFR< 60 mL/min), with 33 healthy participants as the control (HC). The differences in serum GPX4, ACSL4, iron, Tf, and ferritin levels between groups were compared, and the relationships between these levels were analysed. The independent correlations between UAER or DN severity and serum GPX4, ACSL4, iron, Tf, and ferritin levels were analysed by multiple linear and multinomial logistic regression, respectively. Results: To the patients with T2DM, with the increase in UAER levels, GPX4, iron, and Tf levels gradually decreased, whereas ACSL4 levels increased, meanwhile with the decrease in eGFR levels, GPX4 and Tf levels gradually decreased, whereas ACSL4 levels increased. UAER were independently and positively correlated with ACSL4 [β = 17.53, 95% confidence interval (CI; 11.94, 23.13)] and negatively correlated with GPX4 [β = â1.633, 95% CI (â'2.77, -0.496)] and Tf [β = â'52.94, 95% CI (-95.78, â'10.11)]. The NO and MI groups were considered as reference groups, respectively. The severity of DN was negatively correlated with serum GPX4 [odds ratio (OR) = 0.925 and 0.902, p =0.015 and 0.001], and Tf (OR = 0.109 and 0.119, p =0.043 and 0.034), and positively correlated with ACSL4 (OR = 1.952 and 1.865, both p <0.001) in the MA group. Conclusion: DN severity was negatively correlated with serum GPX4 and Tf levels and positively correlated with serum ACSL4 levels in patients with T2DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
