The transition period for dairy cows usually refers to the 3 weeks pre-calving to the 3 weeks post-calving. During this period, dairy cows undergo metabolic and physiological adaptations because of their susceptibility to metabolic and infectious diseases. Poor feeding management under these circumstances may adversely affect the health and subsequent production performance of the cows. Owing to long-term adaptation and evolution, the rumen has become a unique ecosystem inhabited by a complex microbial community closely associated with its natural host. Dietary components are metabolized by the rumen microbiota, and volatile fatty acids and microbial protein products can be used as precursor substances for synthesizing meat and milk components. The successful transition of perinatal dairy cows includes changes in diet, physiology, and the rumen microbiota. Rumen microbial profiles have been confirmed to be heritable and repairable; however, adverse circumstances affect rumen microbial composition, host digestion and metabolism, as well as postpartum production traits of dairy cows for a certain period. Preliminary evidence indicates a close relationship between the rumen microbiota and animal performance. Therefore, changes in rumen microbes during the transition period and the intrinsic links between the microbiota and host postpartum phenotypic traits need to be better understood to optimize production performance in ruminants.

To address the shortcomings of traditional intumescent flame retardants (IFRs), a novel four-in-one IFR (M [APP/NiCo2O4]) was constructed for the first time. It integrates acid source, gas source, carbon source (crosslinking β-CD), and synergistic agent (NiCo2O4 nanoparticles) into a single entity by a co-encapsulation technology. Under the loading of 20 wt%, its flame retardant performance was significantly better than that of simple mixed flame retardants, and it could increase the limiting oxygen index of polypropylene (PP) from 18 to 30.2 and pass the UL-94 V-0 rating. At the same time, it could reduce the peak of heat release rate, total heat release, and peak of CO production of PP by 77%, 22%, and 80%, respectively, showing excellent flame retardant performance. The excellent flame retardant performance is mainly because the synergist NiCo2O4 nanoparticles in the four-in-one flame retardant can easily combine and efficiently interact with the acid source, carbon source, and gas source in the intumescent flame retardant to form a more stable protective char residue. In addition, the crosslinking β-CD shell enhances both the water resistance and initial thermal decomposition temperature of PP containing the four-in-one IFR compared to PP with simple mixed control samples. After 72 h of water resistance test, it can still maintain the UL-94 V-0 rating. The presence of the crosslinking β-CD shell also improves the compatibility of the four-in-one flame retardant in PP, and its adverse effects on the mechanical properties of PP are also significantly smaller than those of the mixed control sample.

Abstract Photocatalysis through energy transfer has been investigated for the facilitation of [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions. However, the high reactivity of radical species poses a challenging obstacle to achieving enantiocontrol with chiral catalysts, as no enantioselective examples have been reported thus far. Here, we present the development of catalytic asymmetric [4 + 2] dearomative photocycloaddition involving anthracene and its derivatives with alkenylazaarenes. This accomplishment is achieved by utilizing a cooperative photosensitizer and chiral Brønsted acid catalysis platform. Importantly, this process enables the activation of anthracene substrates through energy transfer from triplet DPZ, thereby initiating a precise and stereoselective sequential transformation. The significance of our work is highlighted by the synthesis of a diverse range of pharmaceutical valuable cycloadducts incorporating attractive azaarenes, all obtained with high yields, ees, and drs. The broad substrate scope is further underscored by successful construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters and diverse adjacent stereocenters.

A new green water treatment agent, a poly(aspartic acid)-modified polymer (PASP/5–AVA), was synthesized using polysuccinimide and 5-aminovaleric acid (5-AVA) in a hybrid system. The structure was characterized, and the scale and corrosion inhibition performance were carried out with standard static scale inhibition and electrochemical methods, respectively. The mechanism was explored using XRD, XPS, SEM, and quantum chemistry calculations. The results indicated that PASP/5–AVA exhibited better scale and corrosion inhibition performance than PASP and maintained efficacy and thermal stability of the scale inhibition effect for a long time. Mechanistic studies indicated that PASP/5–AVA interferes with the normal generation of CaCO3 and CaSO4 scales through lattice distortion and dispersion, respectively; the combined effect of an alkaline environment and terminal electron-withdrawing -COOH groups can induce the stable C- ionic state formation in -CH2- of the extended side chain, thus enhancing its chelating ability for Ca2+ ions. At the same time, the extension of the side chain length also enhances the adsorption ability of the agent on the metal surface, forming a thick film and delaying the corrosion of the metal surface. This study provides the necessary theoretical reference for the design of green scale and corrosion agents.

In this study, a ring light point cloud calibration technique based on collimated laser beams is developed, aiming to reduce errors caused by the position and attitude changes of traditional ring light measurement devices. This article details the generation mechanism of the ring beam and the principle of deep hole measurement. It introduces the collimated beam as a reference, building on traditional ring light measurement devices, to achieve the synchronous acquisition of the ring beam and collimated spot images by an industrial camera. The Steger algorithm is employed to accurately extract the coordinates of the point cloud contours of both the ring beam and the collimated spot. By analyzing the shape and position changes of the collimated spot contour, the spatial position and attitude of the measuring device are precisely determined. This technique is applied to the 3D reconstruction of the inner surface of deep holes, ensuring the accurate restoration of the spatial positional attitude of the ring beam by incorporating the spatial positional attitude parameters of the measuring device to precisely calibrate the cross-sectional point cloud coordinates. Experimental results with ring gauges and deep hole workpieces demonstrate that this technique effectively reduces the percentage of point cloud data outside the tolerance range, and improves the accuracy of the 3D reconstruction model by 6.287%, thereby verifying the accuracy and practicality of this technique.

Abstract An unprecedented enantioselective protonation reaction enabled by photoredox catalytic radical coupling is developed. Under cooperative dicynopyrazine‐derived chromophore (DPZ) as a photosensitizer and a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, and Hantzsch ester as a sacrificial reductant, the transformations between α‐substituted enones and cyanoazaarenes or 2‐(chloromethyl)azaaren‐1‐iums can proceed a tandem reduction, radical coupling, and enantioselective protonation process efficiently. Two classes of pharmaceutically important enantioenriched azaarene variants, which contain a synthetically versatile ketone‐substituted tertiary carbon stereocenter at the β‐ or γ‐position of the azaarenes, are synthesized with high yields and ees.

Abstract. Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant bone tumor that more commonly occurs in children and adolescents. The most commonly used treatment for OS is surgery combined with chemotherapy, but the treatment outcomes are typically unsatisfactory. High rates of metastasis and post-treatment recurrence rates are major challenges in the treatment of OS. This underlines the need for studying the in-depth characterization of the pathogenetic mechanisms of OS and development of more effective therapeutic modalities. Previous studies have demonstrated the important role of the bone microenvironment and the regulation of signaling pathways in the occurrence and development of OS. In this review, we discussed the available evidence pertaining to the mechanisms of OS development and identified therapeutic targets for OS. We also summarized the available treatment modalities for OS and identified future priorities for therapeutics research.

Abstract Small unilamellar vesicles (SUVs) are indispensable model membranes, organelle mimics, and drug and vaccine carriers. However, the lack of robust techniques to functionalize or organize preformed SUVs limits their applications. Here we use DNA nanostructures to coat, cluster, and pattern sub-100-nm liposomes, generating distance-controlled vesicle networks, strings and dimers, among other configurations. The DNA coating also enables attachment of proteins to liposomes, and temporal control of membrane fusion driven by SNARE protein complexes. Such a convenient and versatile method of engineering premade vesicles both structurally and functionally is highly relevant to bottom-up biology and targeted delivery.

Abstract Specificity remains a major challenge to current therapeutic strategies for cancer. Mutation associated neoantigens (MANAs) are products of genetic alterations, making them highly specific therapeutic targets. MANAs are HLA-presented (pHLA) peptides derived from intracellular mutant proteins that are otherwise inaccessible to antibody-based therapeutics. Here, we describe the cryo-EM structure of an antibody-MANA pHLA complex. Specifically, we determine a TCR mimic (TCRm) antibody bound to its MANA target, the KRASG12V peptide presented by HLA-A*03:01. Hydrophobic residues appear to account for the specificity of the mutant G12V residue. We also determine the structure of the wild-type G12 peptide bound to HLA-A*03:01, using X-ray crystallography. Based on these structures, we perform screens to validate the key residues required for peptide specificity. These experiments led us to a model for discrimination between the mutant and the wild-type peptides presented on HLA-A*03:01 based exclusively on hydrophobic interactions.

Deep hole measurement is a crucial step in both deep hole machining and deep hole maintenance. Single-camera vision presents promising prospects in deep hole measurement due to its simple structure and low-cost advantages. However, the measurement error caused by the heating of the imaging sensor makes it difficult to achieve the ideal measurement accuracy. To compensate for measurement errors induced by imaging sensor heating, this study proposes an error compensation method for laser and vision-based deep hole measurement instruments. This method predicts the pixel displacement of the entire field of view using the pixel displacement of fixed targets within the camera’s field of view and compensates for measurement errors through a perspective transformation. Theoretical analysis indicates that the perspective projection matrix changes due to the heating of the imaging sensor, which causes the thermally induced measurement error of the camera. By analyzing the displacement of the fixed target point, it is possible to monitor changes in the perspective projection matrix and thus compensate for camera measurement errors. In compensation experiments, using target displacement effectively predicts pixel drift in the pixel coordinate system. After compensation, the pixel error was suppressed from 1.99 pixels to 0.393 pixels. Repetitive measurement tests of the deep hole measurement instrument validate the practicality and reliability of compensating for thermal-induced errors using perspective transformation.

Objective The permeability of coral sand is the key factor determining the groundwater reserves of coral islands. For a long time, the research on the influence of different salinity filtrates on the permeability of coral sand during the formation of freshwater lenses is quiet few. Methods In this study, three kinds of solutions with different salinities were designed to represent freshwater, transition zone water and seawater to conduct dissolution and permeation tests on coral sand. Based on X-ray diffraction analysis and PHREEQC reverse simulation, the possible causes of water-rock interactions and permeability changes in coral sand in different salinity solutions were discussed. Results Results showed that the permeability of coral sand was highly related to its dissolution in water bodies. The higher the salinity of the solution, the stronger the dissolution and the greater the permeability coefficient of the coral sand. The permeability coefficient of coral sand was almost unchanged in pure water. In saltwater, coral sand has undergone water-rock interactions, including carbonate dissolution and Na+-Ca2+ ion exchange, and the water-rock interaction is stronger with increasing salinity. After 360 hours of reaction under NaCl solutions with concentrations of 0.2 mol/L and 0.4 mol/L, the coral sand permeability coefficient changed from 0.58 m/d to 0.64 m/d and 0.74 m/d, respectively. It was inferred that dissolution could increase the overall porosity and thus the permeability coefficient by changing the sand particle size. Conclusion The results provide a scientific reference for the accurate assessment of freshwater reserves and the sustainable development of water resources on coral islands.

The largest geomagnetic storm in two decades occurred in 2024 May with a minimum D _st of −412 nT. We examine its solar and interplanetary origins by combining multipoint imaging and in situ observations. The source active region, NOAA AR 13664, exhibited extraordinary activity and produced successive halo eruptions, which were responsible for two complex ejecta observed at the Earth. In situ measurements from STEREO A, which was 12.°6 apart, allow us to compare the “geo-effectiveness” at the Earth and STEREO A. We obtain key findings concerning the formation of solar superstorms and how mesoscale variations of coronal mass ejections affect geo-effectiveness: (1) the 2024 May storm supports the hypothesis that solar superstorms are “perfect storms” in nature, i.e., a combination of circumstances resulting in an event of an unusual magnitude; (2) the first complex ejecta, which caused the geomagnetic superstorm, shows considerable differences in the magnetic field and associated “geo-effectiveness” between the Earth and STEREO A, despite a mesoscale separation; and (3) two contrasting cases of complex ejecta are found in terms of the geo-effectiveness at the Earth, which is largely due to different magnetic field configurations within the same active region.

The appropriate management strategies for BI-RADS category 4a lesions among handheld ultrasound (HHUS) remain a matter of debate. We aimed to explore the role of automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) or the second-look mammography (MAM) adjunct to ultrasound (US) of 4a masses to reduce unnecessary biopsies. Women aged 30 to 69 underwent HHUS and ABUS from 2016 to 2017 at five high-level hospitals in China, with those aged 40 or older also accepting MAM. Logistic regression analysis assessed image variables correlated with false-positive lesions in US category 4a. Unnecessary biopsies, invasive cancer (IC) yields, and diagnostic performance among different biopsy thresholds were compared. A total of 1946 women (44.9 ± 9.8 years) were eligible for analysis. The false-positive rate of category 4a in ABUS was almost 65.81% (77/117), which was similar to HHUS (67.55%; 127/188). Orientation, architectural distortion, and duct change were independent factors associated with the false-positive lesions in 4a of HHUS, whereas postmenopausal, calcification, and architectural distortion were significant features of ABUS (all p < 0.05). For HHUS, both unnecessary biopsy rate and IC yields were significantly reduced when changing biopsy thresholds by adding MAM for US 4a in the total population (scenario #1:BI-RADS 3, 4, and 5; scenario #2: BI-RADS 4 and 5) compared with the current scenario (all p < 0.05). Notably, scenario #1 reduced false-positive biopsies without affecting IC yields when compared to the current scenario for ABUS (p < 0.001; p = 0.125). The higher unnecessary biopsy rate of category 4a by ABUS was similar to HHUS. However, the second-look MAM adjunct to ABUS has the potential to safely reduce false-positive biopsies compared with HHUS.

In this paper, in order to improve the fuel economy of the actual application of the engine under multi-operating conditions, an experimental study is carried out on a turbo-charged direct-injection engine based on different pre-chamber structures. The engine used for the study is a four-cylinder turbo-charged direct-injection gasoline engine with different structures of pre-chamber spark plugs. The operating conditions in this study include load characteristics at 2000 r/min and characteristic loads at different speeds, including 3000 r/min, 3200 r/min, and 3600 r/min. With stable BMEP or fully open throttle and pedal, the experiment was conducted by the spark angle scanning method to collect data of engine power, economy, and emission under each condition. It was found that the pre-chamber structure has a direct effect on engine performance, with a clear load demarcation line for its effect. Under the WOT condition, the power of pre-chamber ignition is 1.6% higher than that of conventional spark plugs; at the low load of 2 bar, the economy of pre-chamber ignition is degraded by 6%; at the medium load of 8 bar, the economy of the two is comparable; at the large load of 16 bar, the fuel economy proves advantageous. Compared with conventional spark plugs, the pre-chamber spark angle can be advanced by 2~3 °CA, and the pre-chamber ignition with separate ground electrodes is highly reliable. The emission levels of the pre-chamber spark plugs and conventional spark plugs are comparable at all loads.

The reasonable application of cross-domain knowledge tends to promote the generation of radical innovation. However, it is difficult to accurately capture the cross-domain knowledge needed for radical innovation. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a method for inspiring radical innovative design based on FOS and technological distance measurement. First, the functional analysis of the problem product is carried out to determine the target function. Second, the patent sets of problem domain and target domains are constructed based on FOS. Then, this study optimizes the method of technological distance measurement and uses it to determine the optimal target domain. After further categorizing and screening the patents contained in the optimal target domain, specific cross-domain knowledge is pushed to designers. This method can help firms select the most appropriate cross-domain knowledge to design solutions for different problems, thus increasing the possibility of generating radical innovation. In the end, the method is validated in the design of a stovetop cleaning device.

Abstract Background The competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity of circular RNAs (circRNAs) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cancers, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Here, we identified the ceRNA mechanism of circ_0000654 regulation in ESCC. Methods The levels of circ_0000654, E2F transcription factor 3 (E2F3), and microRNA (miR)‐375 were gauged by quantitative real‐time PCR (qRT‐PCR) and western blot. Cell proliferation was assessed by 3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐5‐(3‐carboxymethoxyphenyl)‐2‐(4‐sulfophenyl)‐2H‐tetrazolium (MTS) and 5‐ethynyl‐2′‐deoxyuridine (EdU) assays. Cell apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry. Cell colony formation was tested by colony formation assay. Dual‐luciferase reporter, RNA pull‐down and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays were performed to confirm the direct relationship between miR‐375 and circ_0000654 or E2F3. Xenograft model assays were used to evaluate the effect of circ_0000654 in vivo. Results Circ_0000654 and E2F3 were upregulated in ESCC. Circ_0000654 depletion enhanced cell apoptosis and hindered cell proliferation and glycolysis in vitro, as well as weakened tumor growth in vivo. Increased expression of E2F3 counteracted the effects of circ_0000654 depletion. Mechanistically, E2F3 was a target of miR‐375, and circ_0000654 modulated E2F3 expression through sequestering miR‐375. Furthermore, miR‐375 upregulation phenocopied circ_0000654 knockdown in inhibiting ESCC progression. Conclusion Our findings identify a new circ_0000654/miR‐375/E2F3 ceRNA crosstalk for the oncogenic role of circ_0000654 in ESCC and establish a notion that targeting circ_0000654 and its pathways may have the potential to improve ESCC outcome.

We develop a preliminary interplanetary disturbance index ( J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ ) by applying the spectral whitening method to an energy coupling function with solar wind measurements during the years 1998–2014 as the input, which can be used as an indicator of perturbations in the near-Earth solar wind. The correlation and temporal variation between J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ and the geomagnetic disturbance index ( J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ ) constructed from the same method have been analyzed in detail for 167 geomagnetic storms with the minimum D _st index less than or equal to −50 nT. The time delay between J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ and J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ is clearly observable and varies for different events, according to which J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ is shifted backward with respect to J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ . We obtain a fairly good negative correlation between the shifted J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ and the J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ indices for the majority of events, and the significance level for 88% of the events (i.e., 147 events) does not exceed 0.05. A statistical analysis of the shifted J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ and the J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ indices for 147 selected events reveals that larger values of J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ and smaller magnitudes of J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ are commonly accompanied by enhanced southward magnetic fields, which implies that more solar wind energy is entering the magnetosphere and thus causing strong geomagnetic storms. Furthermore, a linear fit of the two indices suggests that the evolution of J ${}_{{\rm{p}}}^{{\rm{G}}}$ can be predicted about 2 hr in advance based on J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ , indicating that J ${}_{{\rm{s}}}^{{\rm{W}}}$ can provide early warnings of possible disturbances in the geomagnetic fields, which is crucial for space weather monitoring and operational forecasting.

We report on the first direct in situ measurements of a fast coronal mass ejection (CME) and shock in the corona, which occurred on 2022 September 5. In situ measurements from the Parker Solar Probe spacecraft near perihelion suggest two shocks, with the second one decayed, which is consistent with more than one eruption in coronagraph images. Despite a flank crossing, the measurements indicate unique features of the young ejecta: a plasma much hotter than the ambient medium, suggestive of a hot solar source, and a large plasma β implying a highly non-force-free state and the importance of thermal pressure gradient for CME acceleration and expansion. Reconstruction of the global coronal magnetic fields shows a long-duration change in the heliospheric current sheet (HCS), and the observed field polarity reversals agree with a more warped HCS configuration. Reconnection signatures are observed inside an HCS crossing as deep as the sonic critical point. As the reconnection occurs in the sub-Alfvénic wind, the reconnected flux sunward of the reconnection site can close back to the Sun, which helps balance magnetic flux in the heliosphere. The nature of the sub-Alfvénic wind after the HCS crossing as a low Mach-number boundary layer (LMBL) leads to in situ measurements of the near subsonic plasma at a surprisingly large distance. Specifically, an LMBL may provide favorable conditions for the crossings of the sonic critical point in addition to the Alfvén surface.

Abstract Purpose To investigate the effect of the ratio of the medial tibial plateau width to the total tibial plateau width on the therapeutic efficacy of high tibial osteotomy (HTO) on the medial side for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods In this study, we retrospectively analyzed information of 278 patients who underwent medial HTO for knee osteoarthritis with varus deformity. The Tinetti Gait and Balance Assessment Tool, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the Knee Society Scoring System (KSS) were used to comprehensively evaluate the function of the knee joint after HTO. Results After adjusting for potential confounding factors (i.e., age, gender, body mass index/BMI, and surgical site), the Tinetti assessment score was optimized when the degree of correction was 53.67%, with the β-value on the left and right sides of the inflection point of 0.49 (confidence interval, CI: 0.20, 0.78, P = 0.0009) and− 0.26 (95% CI: − 0.30, − 0.22, P 28, the Tinetti assessment score showed a negative trend. Conclusion The degree of lower-limb mechanical axis correction correlated with the functional status of the knee joint after MOW HTO. When the ratio of the medial tibial plateau width to the total tibial plateau width was approximately 55%, the post-MOW HTO outcomes were optimized and the patients experienced the highest satisfaction. In addition, very high BMI was not conducive for the postoperative recovery of the knee joint function. Level of evidence: III Case–control study/Retrospective comparative study.

In modern internal combustion engines, the lubricant viscosity affects greatly the friction power loss. To obtain maximum fuel economy of the engines, the lubricants with different viscosities are considered to evaluate the friction properties of the compression ring-cylinder liner conjunction in the engines in this study. To conduct the evaluation, an improved mixed lubrication model is developed with considerations of the cylinder liner deformation, the lubricant thermal effect & transportation, and the change of lubrication condition from full flooded to starve. On this basis, the influence of different viscosity lubricants on the minimum oil film thickness, friction, power loss, FMEP, and wear load are investigated. The numerical result indicates that the low viscosity lubricant is more beneficial to facilitate the change of lubrication condition from starve to fully flooded. Furthermore, the low viscosity lubricant will result in large wear load on the compression ring surface while reducing the friction power loss.

Small-scale eruptions could play an important role in coronal heating, generation of solar energetic particles (SEPs), and mass source of the solar wind. However, they are poorly observed, and their characteristics, distributions, and origins remain unclear. Here a mini coronal dimming was captured by the recently launched Solar Orbiter spacecraft. The observations indicate that a minifilament eruption results in the dimming and takes away approximately (1.65 ± 0.54) × 10 ^13 g of mass, which also exhibits similar features as the sources of SEP events. The released magnetic free energy is of the order of ∼10 ^27 erg. Our results suggest that weak constraining force makes the flux rope associated with the minifilament easily enter a torus-unstable domain. We discuss that weak magnetic constraints from low-altitude background fields may be a general condition for the quiet-Sun eruptions, which provide a possible mechanism for the transport of coronal material and energy from the lower to the middle or even higher corona.

Abstract Previous deep learning methods usually required large‐scale annotated data, which is computationally exhaustive and unrealistic in certain scenarios. Therefore, few‐shot learning, where only a few annotated training images are available for training, has attracted increasing attention these days, showing huge potential in practical applications, such as portable equipment or security inspection, and so on. However, current few‐shot learning methods usually neglect the valuable semantic correlations between samples, thereby failing in extracting discriminating relations to achieve accurate predictive results. In this work, extending on a recent state‐of‐the‐art few‐shot learning method, transductive relation‐propagation network (TRPN), which considers the correlations between training samples, a constrained relation‐propagation network is proposed to further regularise the distilled correlations and thus achieve favourable few‐shot classification performance. The proposed framework contains three main components, namely preprocess module, relational propagation module, and relation constraint module. First, sample features are extracted and a relation graph node is constructed by treating the relation of each support–query pair as a graph node in the preprocess module. After that, in the relation propagation module (RPM), the valuable information of support–query pairs is modelled and propagated to directly generate the relational representations for further prediction. Then, a relation constraint module is introduced to regularise the relational representations and make it consistent with the ground‐truth relations as much as possible. With the guidance of the effective RPM and relation constraint module, the relational representations of the support–query pairs are distinguishable and thus can achieve accurate predictive results. Comprehensive experiments conducted on widely used benchmarks validate the effectiveness of our method compared to state‐of‐the‐art few‐shot classification approaches.

Abstract Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is commonly used to treat atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the outcome is often compromised due to the lack of direct real-time feedback to assess lesion transmurality. In this work, we evaluated the ability of polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PSOCT) to measure cardiac wall thickness and assess RF lesion transmurality during left atrium (LA) RFA procedures. Quantitative transmural lesion criteria using PSOCT images were determined ex vivo using an integrated PSOCT-RFA catheter and fresh swine hearts. LA wall thickness of living swine was measured with PSOCT and validated with a micrometer after harvesting the heart. A total of 38 point lesions were created in the LA of 5 living swine with the integrated PSOCT-RFA catheter using standard clinical RFA procedures. For all lesions with analyzable PSOCT images, lesion transmurality was assessed with a sensitivity of 89% (17 of 19 tested positive) and a specificity of 100% (5 of 5 tested negative) using the quantitative transmural criteria. This is the first report of using PSOCT to assess LA RFA lesion transmurality in vivo. The results indicate that PSOCT may potentially provide direct real-time feedback for LA wall thickness and lesion transmurality.

Abstract Background Several computational tools for predicting protein Ubiquitylation and SUMOylation sites have been proposed to study their regulatory roles in gene location, gene expression, and genome replication. However, existing methods generally rely on feature engineering, and ignore the natural similarity between the two types of protein translational modification. This study is the first all-in-one deep network to predict protein Ubiquitylation and SUMOylation sites from protein sequences as well as their crosstalk sites simultaneously. Our deep learning architecture integrates several meta classifiers that apply deep neural networks to protein sequence information and physico-chemical properties, which were trained on multi-label classification mode for simultaneously identifying protein Ubiquitylation and SUMOylation as well as their crosstalk sites. Results The promising AUCs of our method on Ubiquitylation, SUMOylation and crosstalk sites achieved 0.838, 0.888, and 0.862 respectively on tenfold cross-validation. The corresponding APs reached 0.683, 0.804 and 0.552, which also validated our effectiveness. Conclusions The proposed architecture managed to classify ubiquitylated and SUMOylated lysine residues along with their crosstalk sites, and outperformed other well-known Ubiquitylation and SUMOylation site prediction tools.

Abstract Given the special performance of nanosilica with its small size, large specific surface area and high surface activity, nanosilica containing reactive amino group (denoted as SiO2–NH2) and polysuccinimide were allowed to take part in polymerization reaction to afford SiO2–NH2 modified polyaspartic acid (denoted as SiO2–NH2/PASP), a potential polymer scale inhibitor with good water solubility for industrial circulating water. The scale inhibition performance of the as-prepared SiO2–NH2/PASP was evaluated by static scale inhibition test; and its scale inhibition mechanism was explored by means of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Results indicated that SiO2–NH2/PASP exhibits excellent scale inhibition performance against CaSO4 and CaCO3 at very low concentrations (optimum scale inhibition rate of 100% and 68%, respectively), and the presence of 5 mg/L of SiO2–NH2/PASP greatly increases the inhibition efficiency of CaSO4 and CaCO3 scale by 21% and 53%, obviously higher than that of pure PASP.

Using datasets of routine upper-air and surface weather observations,surface automatic weather station,Doppler weather radar at Shijiazhuang,dual-polarization radar at Raoyang and other relevant data,we have conducted a detailed analysis on the atmospheric circulation environment and radar observed characteristics of a supercell storm with long life cycle that affected the central and southern Hebei on 13 June 2018. The main results are as follow. (1) This supercell occurred under the atmospheric circulation of the revising of a transverse trough at the back of vortex. (2) The life cycle of the storm is 204 min long,during which the supercell lasted for 138 min,and the maximum radar reflectivity factor is basically maintained above 65 dBz during this period. (3) The deep and strong development of a mesocyclone is an important dynamic mechanism for the development and maintenance of the supercell storm. The bottom of the mesocyclone can reach the bottom of the storm,and the top height of the mesocyclone had little changes. The formation and development of both low-centroid and high-centroid mesocyclone may cause hail on the ground,and the supercell weakened temporarily during the corresponding hail period. (4) During the maintenance period of supercell,the vortex pairs of cyclones and anticyclones are always accompanied,and the cyclonic vortex is dominant. The hook echo characteristics of the supercell are obvious,which shows the typical vertical structure of echo wall-weak echo region-hanging echo. The structure such as convergence in the low-level,divergence in the upper level,and divergence in the upper level being greater than convergence in the low-level,is conducive to the strong rotation and ascending movement within the supercell. There are obvious three body scatter signature (TBSS) and sidelobe echo,and the longest TBSS is more than 60 km and its duration is as long as 150 min. (5) Dual polarization radar detection shows that the reflectivity factor of the supercell is greater than or equal to 55 dBz,the differential reflectivity in the corresponding position is from -0.5 dB to 0.5 dB,the differential propagation phase shift rate is only between 1.5°/km and 2.0°/km,and the correlation coefficient is from 0.75 to 0.92,which indicates that there are droplets and large hails within the supercell at the same time.

The contribution of colostrum to passive immunity transfer and intestinal protection in newborn ruminants is well known; however, it is currently unclear how colostrum intake affects intestinal innate immunity. We investigated the effects of bovine colostrum intake on ileal morphology, expression of genes involved in intestinal innate immunity, and serum concentrations of inflammatory cytokines in newborn lambs. Twenty-seven newborn male Hu lambs were used, of which 18 were bottle-fed either bovine colostrum (C24h; n = 9) or bovine mature milk (M24h; n = 9) within the first 2 h after birth at an intake of approximately 8% of BW; the remaining nine lambs did not receive any feeding (N24h). Blood and ileal tissue samples were collected after the lambs were slaughtered at 24 h after birth. Abstract Wake effects impose significant aerodynamic interactions among wind turbines. To improve the wind farm operating performance, practical wind farm online control considering wake effects becomes very important. To achieve online optimal wind farm control while responding to grid demands, this paper proposes a novel optimal wind farm supervisory control (SC) model and its explicit solutions. From the controller modelling perspective, the two major wind farm operating modes, the maximum power point tracking mode and the set‐point tracking mode, are first analysed and unified in one optimisation model while considering wake effects. In this way, wind farm power production and rotor kinetic energy reserve can be simultaneously considered to conveniently modify the operation mode in response to different grid demands. Aside from controller modelling, the collocation method is first introduced to address the online application problem of such wake‐effect aware optimal WF control. Although a few optimisation algorithms have been proposed to find the optimum offline, online optimal control is still challenging because of the computational complexity brought by wake model non‐linearity and non‐convexity. The proposed collocation method explicitly approximates the optimal solutions to the proposed supervisory control model, through which only a direct algebraic operation is required for online optimal control instead of repeated optimisations. Case studies are carried out on different wind farms under various wind conditions, showing that the wind farm power production potential and releasable power reserve are improved compared to traditional greedy control in both modes. The accuracy of the collocation method is verified. A detailed analysis of the wind farm production capacity under different wind speeds and directions is also provided.

Abstract Background Hair follicle density influences wool fibre production, which is one of the most important traits of the Wan Strain Angora rabbit. However, molecular mechanisms regulating hair follicle density have remained elusive. Results In this study, hair follicle density at different body sites of Wan Strain Angora rabbits with high and low wool production (HWP and LWP) was investigated by histological analysis. Haematoxylin-eosin staining showed a higher hair follicle density in the skin of the HWP rabbits. The long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) profile was investigated by RNA sequencing, and 50 and 38 differentially expressed (DE) lncRNAs and genes, respectively, were screened between the HWP and LWP groups. A gene ontology analysis revealed that phospholipid, lipid metabolic, apoptotic, lipid biosynthetic, and lipid and fatty acid transport processes were significantly enriched. Potential functional lncRNAs that regulate lipid metabolism, amino acid synthesis, as well as the Janus kinase (JAK)-signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) and hedgehog signalling pathways, were identified. Consequently, five lncRNAs (LNC_002171, LNC_000797, LNC_005567, LNC_013595, and LNC_020367) were considered to be potential regulators of hair follicle density and development. Three DE lncRNAs and genes were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR). Conclusions LncRNA profiles provide information on lncRNA expression to improve the understanding of molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of hair follicle density.

Abstract Periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) have become the most catastrophic complication for patients after arthroplasty. Although previous studies have found that many biomarkers have good performance for diagnosing PJI, early diagnosis remains challenging and a gold standard is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of plasma fibrinogen (FIB) in detecting PJI compared to other traditional biomarks (CRP, WBC and ESR). A total of 156 patients (including 57 PJI and 99 non-PJI patients) who underwent revision arthroplasty were retrospectively reviewed from 01/2014 to 01/2020. The diagnostic criteria of PJI were mainly based on the definition from the evidence-based definition for periprosthetic joint infection in 2018. The optimal plasma FIB predictive cutoff was 4.20 g/L, the sensitivity of the plasma fibrinogen was 0.860, the specificity was 0.900, the positive predictive value (PPV) was 0.831, and the negative predictive value (NPV) was 0.908. The area under the curve (AUC) value of plasma fibrinogen was 0.916 (95% CI 0.869–0.964), and the CRP, ESR and WBC levels had AUCs of 0.901, 0.822 and 0.647, respectively. Plasma FIB demonstrated better diagnostic strength compared with that of other serum biomarkers before revision arthroplasty. It represents a new horizon for the diagnosis of PJI due to the diagnosis values and cost-effective features.

Clustering data with both numeric and categorical attributes is of great importance as such data are ubiquitous in real-world problems. Multi-view learning approaches have proven to be more effective and having better generalisation ability compared to single-view learning in many problems. However, most of the existing clustering algorithms developed for mixed numeric and categorical data are single-view. In this research, we propose a novel multi-view clustering algorithm based on the k-prototypes (which we term Multi-view K-Prototypes) for clustering mixed data. To the best of our knowledge, our proposed Multi-view K-Prototypes is the first multi-view version of the well-known k-prototypes algorithm. To cluster the mixed data over multiple views, we present a novel representation prototype of cluster centres in the scenario of multiple views, and we also devise formulas for updating the cluster centres over each view. Then we propose the concept of consensus cluster centres to output the final clustering result. Finally, we carried out a series of experiments on four benchmark datasets to assess the performance of the proposed Multi-view K-Prototypes clustering. Experimental results show that the Multi-view K-Prototypes algorithm outperforms the seven state-of-the-art algorithms in most cases.

Abstract Background The increase in atmospheric CO2 is causing a number of changes in plant growth such as increases in leaf area and number, branching, plant size and biomass, and growth rate. Despite the importance of stomatal responses to CO2, little is known about the genetic and molecular mechanisms that mediate stomatal development and movement in response to CO2 levels. Deciphering the mechanisms that sense changes in CO2 and/or HCO3 − concentration is critical for unraveling the role of CO2 in stomatal development movement. In Arabidopsis, CO2-induced stomatal closure is strongly Ca2+-dependent. To further dissect this signaling pathway and identify new components in the CO2 response pathway, we recorded [Ca2+]cyt changes in mutagenized Arabidopsis leaves and screened for mutants with abnormal guard cell behavior in response to CO2/HCO3 −. Results We observed that 1 mM HCO3 − induces [Ca2+]cys transient changes in guard cells and stomatal closure both in light and darkness. The changes in [Ca2+]cys induced by HCO3 − could be detected by an aequorin-based calcium imaging system. Using this system, we identified a number of Arabidopsis mutants defective in both [Ca2+]cyt changes and the stomatal response to CO2/HCO3 −. Conclusions We provide a sensitive method for isolating stomatal CO2/HCO3 − response genes that function early in stomatal closure and that have a role in regulating [Ca2+]cyt. This method will be helpful in elucidating the Ca2+-dependent regulation of guard cell behavior in response to CO2/HCO3 −.

Clustering analysis, as an important technique in data mining, aims to identify the nature groups or clusters of data objects in the attribute space. Data objects in real-world applications are commonly described by both numeric and categorical attributes. In this research, considering that the partitional clustering algorithms designed for this type of mixed data are prone to get trapped into local optima and the cuckoo search approach is efficient in solving global optimization problems, we propose CCS-K-Prototypes, a novel partitional Clustering algorithm based on Cuckoo Search and K-Prototypes, for clustering mixed numeric and categorical data. To deal with different types of attributes, we develop a novel representation for candidate solutions, and suggest two formulas for the cuckoo to search for the potential solution around the existing solutions or in the entire attribute space. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is assessed by a series of experiments on five benchmark datasets.

Passive microwave remote sensing is an effective way to obtain global soil moisture (SM) measurements, and many studies have explored the uncertainty inherent in microwave-based SM products. However, SM product accuracy has not been evaluated in northeast China, a national and global production base for commodity grain. In this study, a ground-based wireless sensor network with 28 observation nodes that were spatially distributed within 36 × 36 km was established to achieve satellite-scale “true” SM values through sensor calibration for specific soil types, senor consistency testing, and spatial scale transformation. The uncertainties of four passive microwave SM products (SMAP L3, SMOS L3, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency/JAXA AMSR2, and FY3C) were investigated and the following conclusions were obtained: 1) SMAP SM accuracy was very close to the expected application accuracy of 0.04 cm3/cm3, followed by SMOS, FY3C, and AMSR2; 2) for SMOS and SMAP, there were no significant temporal changes in SM errors, except for the larger error of descending SMOS SM and June SM values for descending SMAP and ascending SMOS. AMSR2 SM generally underestimated field SM, while FY3C SM values under low vegetation conditions were more consistent with field data, with an error of about 0.06 cm3/cm3; 3) agricultural activities and rainfall caused the soil surface roughness to increase or decrease within a growing season, which may have been an important source of satellite-scale SM error indicated by high bias values in July for both SMAP and SMOS; and 4) the standard deviation of field SM (0.06 cm3/cm3) produced a SMAP SM error of about 0.06 cm3/cm3 in low vegetation water content conditions, indicating that SM spatial heterogeneity cannot be ignored in the retrieval algorithm. This article investigated the accuracy and error sources of four satellite SM products in the farmland area of northeast China, and identified future research directions for further improving SM algorithms.

In this paper, we present a computational approach to bilingual speakers’ non-native (L2) lexical-semantic representations. Specifically, based on detailed analyses of the error patterns shown in our previous simulation results (Zhao and Li Int. J. Bilingual. Educ. Bilingual., 2010, 13, 505–524; Zhao and Li, Bilingualism, 2013, 16, 288–303), we aim at revealing the underlying learning factors that may affect the extent of fuzzy category boundaries within bilinguals’ L2 representation. Here, we first review computational bilingual models in the literature that have focused on simulating L2 lexical representations, including the Developmental Lexicon II (DevLex-II) model (Zhao and Li, Int. J. Bilingual. Educ. Bilingual., 2010, 13, 505–524; Zhao and Li, Bilingualism, 2013, 16, 288–303), on which the current study is based. The DevLex-II modeling results indicate a strong age of acquisition (AoA) effect: When the learning of L2 is early relative to that of native language (L1), functionally distinct lexical representations may be established for both languages; when the learning of L2 is significantly delayed relative to that of L1, fuzzy L2 representations may occur due to the structural consolidation (or the entrenchment) of the L1 lexicon. Next, we explore the error patterns shown in both lexical comprehension and production in DevLex-II. A novel contribution of the current study is that we systematically compare the computational simulation results with empirical findings. Such model-based error analyses extend our previous findings by indicating, especially in the late L2 learning condition, that fuzzy L2 semantic representations emerge and lead to processing errors, including errors in unstable phonology-semantic and semantic-phonemic mappings. The DevLex-II model provides a computational account of the development of bilinguals’ L2 representation with reference to the dynamic interaction and competition between the two lexicons. We point to future directions in which fuzzy L2 representations may be overcome, through a framework that highlights the social learning of L2 (SL2) and the embodied semantic representation of the lexicon in the new language (Li and Jeong, Npj Sci. Learn., 2020, 5, 1–9; Zhang, Yang, Wang and Li, Lang. Cogn. Neurosci., 2020, 35, 1223–1238).

The marine environment in which offshore wind turbines are located is very complex and subjected to a variety of random loads that vary with time and space. As an important component of offshore wind power, the cable also bears the impact of the environment in which most of the turbines are located. Under the long-term action of mechanical stresses such as tension, torsion, and vibration, the cable insulation will crack due to stress fatigue leading to partial discharge, which seriously affects its electrical performance. The study of the mechanism of the change of electrical properties of cable insulation due to mechanical behavior is of great theoretical guidance to improve the reliable operation of cables. This paper first introduces the basic characteristics and operating conditions of torsion-resistant cables and submarine cables. Then the mechanical behavior of the cables is summarized, and the deterioration mechanism and deterioration effect of wind power cable insulation under the influence of multiple factors such as heat, oxygen, and mechanical stress are sorted out. Then, the basic principles of wind power cable operation condition monitoring methods and their characteristics are described. Finally, the relevant methods for the detection of hidden defects inside the insulation are summarized.

Improvements in the feeding of calves are of increasing importance for the development of the dairy industry. While colostrum is essential for the health of newborn calves, knowledge of protein phosphorylation alterations in neonatal calves that are fed colostrum or mature milk is lacking. Here, mid-jejunum tissue samples were collected from calves that received colostrum or milk. Subsequently, the jejunum phosphoproteome was analyzed using a phosphopeptide enrichment method, i.e., titanium immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography, coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. A total of 2093 phosphopeptides carrying unique 1851 phosphorylation sites corresponding to 1180 phosphoproteins were identified. Of the 1180 phosphoproteins, 314 phosphorylation sites on 241 proteins were differentially expressed between the groups. Gene ontology analysis indicated that the phosphoproteins were strongly associated with developmental and macromolecule metabolic processes, signal transduction, and responses to stimuli and insulin. Pathway analysis showed that the spliceosome, Hippo, insulin, and neurotrophin signaling pathways were enriched. These results reveal the expression pattern and changes in the function of phosphoproteins in bovine jejunum tissues under different feeding conditions and provide further insights into the crucial role of colostrum feeding during the early stages of life.

Wound infections are prone to attacks from infectious pathogens, including multidrug resistant bacteria that render conventional antimicrobials ineffective. Recently, lysins have been proposed as alternatives to conventional antimicrobials to tackle the menace of multidrug resistance pathogens. The coupling of lysins with a material that will cover the wound may prove beneficial in both protecting and treating wound infections. Hence, in this study, a Gram-negative lysin, LysP53, was coupled with a thermosensitive hydrogel, poloxamer P407, and its efficacy to treat wound infection was tested. In vitro, the addition of LysP53 to the poloxamer did not affect its thermosensitive characteristics, nor did it affect the hydrogel structure. Moreover, the lysin hydrogel could hydrolyze the peptidoglycan, demonstrating that it may have bactericidal activity. Up to 10.4% of LysP53 was released from the hydrogel gradually within 24 h, which led to a 4-log reduction of stationary phase Acinetobacter baumannii. Lastly, the lysin hydrogel was found safe with no cytotoxic effects observed in cells. Ex vivo, LysP53 hydrogel could inhibit bacterial growth on a pig skin decolonization model, with 3-log differences compared to non-treated groups. Overall, our results suggest that lysin-loaded hydrogels may provide a novel solution to treat wound infections caused by resistant bacteria.

Summary: The site-specific incorporation of deuterium (D) into small molecules is frequently used to access isotopically labeled compounds with broad utility in many research areas, such as drug development, mechanistic studies, and NMR analyses. Nevertheless, the deuteration of a stereocenter in an enantioselective manner, which could slow the metabolism and improve the bioavailability of bioactive molecules, remains challenging owing to the lack of established catalytic methods. Here, we report an asymmetric α-deuteration strategy for azaarenes with inexpensive D2O as the deuterium source. A cooperative visible light-driven photoredox and chiral Brønsted acid–catalyzed system using a Hantzsch ester as the terminal reductant has been developed, which enables racemic α-chloro-azaarenes and prochiral azaarene-substituted ketones to experience a single-electron reduction–enantioselective deuteration process. Abstract Background Acetylation on lysine is a widespread post-translational modification which is reversible and plays a crucial role in some biological activities. To better understand the mechanism, it is necessary to identify acetylation sites in proteins accurately. Computational methods are popular because they are more convenient and faster than experimental methods. In this study, we proposed a new computational method to predict acetylation sites in human by combining sequence features and structural features including physicochemical property (PCP), position specific score matrix (PSSM), auto covariation (AC), residue composition (RC), secondary structure (SS) and accessible surface area (ASA), which can well characterize the information of acetylated lysine sites. Besides, a two-step feature selection was applied, which combined mRMR and IFS. It finally trained a cascade classifier based on SVM, which successfully solved the imbalance between positive samples and negative samples and covered all negative sample information. Results The performance of this method is measured with a specificity of 72.19% and a sensibility of 76.71% on independent dataset which shows that a cascade SVM classifier outperforms single SVM classifier. Conclusions In addition to the analysis of experimental results, we also made a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the acetylation data.

Asymmetric transformations involving abundant chemical feedstocks such as toluene and its derivatives are rather rare. Here, the authors report the radical enantioselective C(sp3) −C(sp3) coupling of activated ketones with toluenes by means of chiral acid catalysis to afford enantioenriched tertiary alcohols.

Abstract Background Hair fibre length is an important economic trait of rabbits in fur production. However, molecular mechanisms regulating rabbit hair growth have remained elusive. Results Here we aimed to characterise the skin traits and gene expression profiles of short-hair and long-hair rabbits by histological and transcriptome analyses. Haematoxylin-eosin staining was performed to observe the histological structure of the skin of short-hair and long-hair rabbits. Compared to that in short-hair rabbits, a significantly longer anagen phase was observed in long-hair rabbits. In addition, by RNA sequencing, we identified 951 genes that were expressed at significantly different levels in the skin of short-hair and long-hair rabbits. Nine significantly differentially expressed genes were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. A gene ontology analysis revealed that epidermis development, hair follicle development, and lipid metabolic process were significantly enriched. Further, we identified potential functional genes regulating follicle development, lipid metabolic, and apoptosis as well as important pathways including extracellular matrix-receptor interaction and basal cell carcinoma pathway. Conclusions The present study provides transcriptome evidence for the differences in hair growth between short-hair and long-hair rabbits and reveals that lipid metabolism and apoptosis might constitute major factors contributing to hair length.

Grounded on the social exchange theory (SET), social cognitive theory (SCT), and self-determination theory (SDT), this study aims to explore the mediating role of self-efficacy (SE) and work engagement (WE) on the effect of social support (SS) on job satisfaction (JS) among Chinese ethnic minority kindergarten teachers (KTs). The results show that: (1) SS has a directly significant effect on JS; (2) WE mediates the relationship between SS and JS; and (3) SE mediates the relationship between SS and WE. Although the mediation of SE on the relationship between SS and JS is not found, the posited multiple mediations of SE and WE on the relationship between SS and JS are totally accepted. The results reveal that SS mainland Chinese ethnic minority KTs received can not only have a direct effect on JS but also have an indirect impact through the one-path mediating role of WE and the chain mediating role of SE and WE. The results suggest that governments, supervisors, and sponsors should work together to provide ethnic minority KTs with more prioritized SS from both cultural psychology and financial material and opportunities for facilitating professional knowledge and skills in order to enhance their SE, inspire their WE, and eventually accumulate their JS.

Chemo and siRNA synergic treatments for tumors is a promising new therapeutic trend. Selenocystine, a selenium analog of cysteine, has been considered a potential antitumor agent due to its redox perturbing role. In this study, we developed a nanocarrier for siRNA based on a selenocystine analog engineered polyetherimide and achieved traceable siRNA delivery and the synergic killing of tumor cells. Notably, we applied the label-free Schiff base fluorescence mechanism, which enabled us to trace the siRNA delivery and to monitor the selenocystine analogs’ local performance. A novel selenocystine-derived fluorescent Schiff base linker was used to crosslink the polyetherimide, thereby generating a traceable siRNA delivery vehicle with green fluorescence. Moreover, we found that this compound induced tumor cells to undergo senescence. Together with the delivery of a siRNA targeting the anti-apoptotic BCL-xl/w genes in senescent cells, it achieved a synergistic inhibition function by inducing both senescence and apoptosis of tumor cells. Therefore, this study provides insights into the development of label-free probes, prodrugs, and materials towards the synergic strategies for cancer therapy.

Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a common form of vascular malformation, an abnormal direct communication between an artery and a vein without passing through the capillaries. AVM may just present as hematuria without plain or other symptoms. The article presents a case of a 52-year-old male with gross hematuria diagnosed as AVM of internal pudendal artery, which was successfully managed with superselective arterial embolization using temporary embolization materials.

Abstract Background Lysine succinylation is a new kind of post-translational modification which plays a key role in protein conformation regulation and cellular function control. To understand the mechanism of succinylation profoundly, it is necessary to identify succinylation sites in proteins accurately. However, traditional methods, experimental approaches, are labor-intensive and time-consuming. Computational prediction methods have been proposed recent years, and they are popular because of their convenience and high speed. In this study, we developed a new method to predict succinylation sites in protein combining multiple features, including amino acid composition, binary encoding, physicochemical property and grey pseudo amino acid composition, with a feature selection scheme (information gain). And then, it was trained using SVM (Support Vector Machine) and an ensemble learning algorithm. Results The performance of this method was measured with an accuracy of 89.14% and a MCC (Matthew Correlation Coefficient) of 0.79 using 10-fold cross validation on training dataset and an accuracy of 84.5% and a MCC of 0.2 on independent dataset. Conclusions The conclusions made from this study can help to understand more of the succinylation mechanism. Acetylation, as one of the most important post-translation modifications, plays a key role in a variety of biological functions, such as transcriptional regulation, cytokine signaling, and apoptosis. To understand the mechanism of acetylation profoundly, it is necessary to identify acetylation sites in proteins accurately. The existing methods for identifying protein acetylation sites can be divided into two major categories, i.e., mass spectrometry and computational methods. Mass spectrometry-based experimental methods are capable of discovering acetylation sites from eukaryotes, but can be time-consuming and expensive. Therefore, it is necessary to develop computational approaches that can effectively and accurately identify protein acetylation sites. The existing computational methods usually involve feature engineering, which may lead to redundancy and biased representations. While deep learning is capable of excavating the underlying characteristics from large-scale training data set via multiple-layer networks and non-linear mapping operations. In this paper, we propose a new method (named DeepAce) for predicting general and species-specific lysine acetylation sites based on deep neural network. We critically evaluate the performance of DeepAce and compare it with other existing predictors. The comparative results show the effectiveness of our Bi-modal deep architecture and also indicate that our method is very promising for predicting acetylation sites. This research report discusses the dynamic behaviors of an axial-groove gas bearings-rotor system with rod-fastened structure. The time-based dependency-compressible Reynolds equation in the gas bearing nonlinear system is solved by the differential transformation method, and the continuous gas film forces of a three-axial-groove gas bearing are obtained. A dynamic mathematical model of the rotor system with rod-fastened structure supported in two- and three-axial-groove gas bearings with eight degrees of freedom is established. The dynamic motion equation of the rod-fastened rotor system is solved by the modified Newmark-β method based on disturbance compensation, which can reduce the computing error and improve computing stability. The dynamic characteristics of the rod-fastened rotor-gas bearing system are analyzed efficiently by the diversiform unbalance responses. The influence of the position angle of the pad on the nonlinear characteristics of the rod-fastened rotor system is also studied.
