Endometrial carcinoma (ECa) is the fourth most common cancer among women. The oncogene PELP1 is frequently overexpressed in a variety of cancers, including ECa. We recently generated SMIP34, a small‐molecule inhibitor of PELP1 that suppresses PELP1 oncogenic signaling. In this study, we assessed the effectiveness of SMIP34 in treating ECa. Treatment of established and primary patient‐derived ECa cells with SMIP34 resulted in a significant reduction of cell viability, colony formation ability, and induction of apoptosis. RNA‐seq analyses showed that SMIP34‐regulated genes were negatively correlated with ribosome biogenesis and eukaryotic translation pathways. Mechanistic studies showed that the Rix complex, which is essential for ribosomal biogenesis, is disrupted upon SMIP34 binding to PELP1. Biochemical assays confirmed that SMIP34 reduced ribosomal biogenesis and new protein synthesis. Further, SMIP34 enhanced the efficacy of mTOR inhibitors in reducing viability of ECa cells. SMIP34 is also effective in reducing cell viability in ECa organoids in vitro and explants ex vivo. Importantly, SMIP34 treatment resulted in a significant reduction of the growth of ECa xenografts. Collectively, these findings underscore the potential of SMIP34 in treating ECa.

This study seeks to understand the reality and psychological difficulties faced by university graduates in Wuhan after the COVID-19 epidemic was controlled. Methods: A total of 6,417 graduate students were surveyed through an online questionnaire from late May to early June 2020. The questionnaire asked questions on depression, anxiety, insomnia, and suicidal behavior. In addition, self-administered epidemic-related questionnaires consisting of eight items were collected from university graduates. Results: Participants' positive detection rates for depression, anxiety, insomnia, and suicidal behavior are 13.4%, 8.3%, 4.4%, and 12.1%, respectively. The three biggest challenges faced by graduates are future development, economic difficulties, and employment problems. Conclusion: The detectable rate of depression, anxiety, and insomnia is low, and the detectable rate of suicide symptoms should be given more attention. The biggest problem of this group is their future development, and what they want to solve the most is the economic difficulty.

As an important research topic in recent years, semantic segmentation has been widely applied to image understanding problems in various fields. With the successful application of deep learning methods in machine vision, the superior performance has been transferred to agricultural image processing by combining them with traditional methods. Semantic segmentation methods have revolutionized the development of agricultural automation and are commonly used for crop cover and type analysis, pest and disease identification, etc. We first give a review of the recent advances in traditional and deep learning methods for semantic segmentation of agricultural images according to different segmentation principles. Then we introduce the traditional methods that can effectively utilize the original image information and the powerful performance of deep learning-based methods. Finally, we outline their applications in agricultural image segmentation. In our literature, we identify the challenges in agricultural image segmentation and summarize the innovative developments that address these challenges. The robustness of the existing segmentation methods for processing complex images still needs to be improved urgently, and their generalization abilities are also insufficient. In particular, the limited number of labeled samples is a roadblock to new developed deep learning methods for their training and evaluation. To this, segmentation methods that augment the dataset or incorporate multimodal information enable deep learning methods to further improve the segmentation capabilities. This review provides a reference for the application of image semantic segmentation in the field of agricultural informatization.

Abstract Of all gynecologic cancers, epithelial-ovarian cancer (OCa) stands out with the highest mortality rates. Despite all efforts, 90% of individuals who receive standard surgical and cytotoxic therapy experience disease recurrence. The precise mechanism by which leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and its receptor (LIFR) contribute to the progression of OCa remains unknown. Analysis of cancer databases revealed that elevated expression of LIF or LIFR was associated with poor progression-free survival of OCa patients and a predictor of poor response to chemotherapy. Using multiple primary and established OCa cell lines or tissues that represent five subtypes of epithelial-OCa, we demonstrated that LIF/LIFR autocrine signaling is active in OCa. Moreover, treatment with LIFR inhibitor, EC359 significantly reduced OCa cell viability and cell survival with an IC50 ranging from 5-50 nM. Furthermore, EC359 diminished the stemness of OCa cells. Mechanistic studies using RNA-seq and rescue experiments unveiled that EC359 primarily induced ferroptosis by suppressing the glutathione antioxidant defense system. Using multiple in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models including cell-based xenografts, patient-derived explants, organoids, and xenograft tumors, we demonstrated that EC359 dramatically reduced the growth and progression of OCa. Additionally, EC359 therapy considerably improved tumor immunogenicity by robust CD45+ leukocyte tumor infiltration and polarizing tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) toward M1 phenotype while showing no impact on normal T-, B-, and other immune cells. Collectively, our findings indicate that the LIF/LIFR autocrine loop plays an essential role in OCa progression and that EC359 could be a promising therapeutic agent for OCa.

The ecological restoration of mine dump is a major environmental problem faced by open-pit mining, and it is an important factor restricting the construction of green open-pit coal mine. Soil reconstruction is an important step in the ecological restoration of dumps. The northwest coal base, represented by Xinjiang, is characterized by water scarcity and salinization. Soil water and salt migration is a key indicator to determine the success of soil reconstruction. At present, the research focuses on the surface soil reconstruction to improve soil nutrients and promote plant growth. There are few studies on the functional soil reconstruction of water and salt control, and the mechanism of water and salt transportation under different soil reconstruction methods is still unclear. Based on the characteristics of coal resource endowment in Xinjiang, from the perspective of coal circular economy, this study used coal gasification slag (CGS), a by-product of energy and chemical industry, as a reconstruction material. Through a capillary water rising-evaporation experiment, the vertical migration of water and salt and water supply capacity after CGS reconstruction were analyzed. The Van Genuchten model was used to fit the soil water characteristic curve, analyzed the soil water holding capacity after CGS reconstruction, and studied the feasibility of CGS as an aquifer reconstruction material. The red mudstone associated with coal mining was used as the reconstruction material. Through the soil column infiltration evaporation experiment, the water and salt changes at different soil depths after the reconstruction of red mudstone were analyzed, and the feasibility of mudstone as the reconstruction material of aquiclude was studied. The results showed that the CGS reconstruction improved soil texture, optimized pore structure, promoted soil water and salt transport, enhanced capillary action, promoted the upward supply of water in the lower layer, and also increased salt surface accumulation. The reconstruction changed the parameters of soil water characteristic curve, increased θs, decreased a and n, and improved soil water holding capacity. The higher the amount of CGS added, the greater the fine slag content, the more obvious the effect. The CGS was feasible as a material for reconstructing aquifer. The red mudstone had high clay and secondary mineral content, rich pore structure and good physical adsorption. After reconstruction, the soil water content at 0−24 cm depth was higher than that of the control group, and the salt reached the highest value at 20−24 cm after evaporation. The red mudstone effectively blocked the upward movement of salt. Red mudstone was feasible as a material for reconstructing aquifuge. The research explores a suitable soil reconstruction model for the waste dump in western coal base.

Abstract Purpose The aim of this study was to explore whether MAF bZIP transcription factor B (MAFB) might alleviate ulcerative colitis (UC) in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)‐induced mice and LPS‐induced IEC‐6 cells. Methods UC in vivo and in vitro model was established by using DSS and LPS, respectively. The mice body weight and disease activity index (DAI) score were recorded daily, and colon length was measured. Moreover, the permeability was evaluated utilizing a fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran (FITC‐Dextran) probe. Histopathological changes of DSS‐induced colitis mice was assessed utilizing H&E staining. Next, qRT‐PCR was performed to detect IL‐1β, IL‐6, TNF‐α, and IL‐10 level in in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, the level of MDA, SOD, CAT, and GSH were evaluated in colon tissues. Besides, the expressions of tight junction proteins and NF‐κB pathway relative proteins were examined in colitis mice and IEC‐6 cells using western blot, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Results MAFB level was downregulated in DSS‐induced colitis mice. Moreover, the upregulation of MAFB protected mice from DSS‐induced colitis by suppressing DSS‐induced inflammation, oxidative stress, and intestinal barrier impairment. We also demonstrated that the upregulation of MAFB inactivated NF‐κB pathway in DSS‐caused colitis mice. Subsequently, we observed that MAFB upregulation could inhibit LPS‐caused epithelial barrier impairment and inflammation in IEC‐6 cells. Additionally, MAFB overexpression could suppress the activation of NF‐κB pathway in IEC‐6 cells. Conclusion The upregulation of MAFB could protect against UC via the suppression of inflammation and the intestinal barrier impairment through inhibiting the NF‐κB pathway.

Background: Several scholarly publications have thoroughly examined the significant role of autophagy in the pathogenesis, progression, and treatment of retinal diseases. This research utilized bibliometric analysis to identify the primary areas of focus and emerging trends within the discipline and offer a comprehensive summary. Methods: The research articles and reviews regarding autophagy and retinal diseases from 2009-01-01 to 2022-12-31 were from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). The software VOSviewer and CiteSpace were applied to analyze and visualize maps of countries, organizations, authors, journals, keyword networks, and citations in the field of autophagy in retinal diseases. Results: 854 qualified records (721 articles and 133 reviews) were retrieved in this research. The annual publication output of literature shows a growing trend. China is the most productive country, and the author with the most publications is Kai Kaarniranta. Journal Autophagy published the most articles in this field. Keywords analysis can effectively reflect the research hot spots and indicate that diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma have drawn more attention recently. Researchers have shifted the research emphasis on “AMPK”, “angiogenesis”, “mutation”, and “inflammation”. Conclusions: With the bibliometric analysis approach, we presented the number of publications, countries, regions, authors, institutions, keywords, and citations, which further helps researchers understand the hot spots and trends in the field of autophagy in retinal diseases and explore the issues in the rapidly developing area.

Abstract The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory is constructing the world’s largest liquid scintillator detector, with a 20 kt target mass and approximately 700 m of overburden. The total underground space of civil construction is around 300,000 m $$^3$$ 3 , with the main hall comprising about 120,000 m $$^3$$ 3 , making it the largest experimental hall in the world. Maintaining a low radon concentration in the underground air is crucial for both human health and the accuracy of experiments involving rare decay detection, such as neutrino and dark matter experiments. To ensure human health and the integrity of neutrino physics experiments, the nominal radon concentration in the main hall must be kept below 200 Bq/m $$^3$$ 3 with a maximum value below 400 Bq/m $$^3$$ 3 . Introduction of fresh air from above ground can significantly lower radon concentration. A benchmark experiment conducted in the refuge room near the main hall revealed that the radon emanating from underground water is a significant source of radon in the underground air. The total underground ventilation rate is approximately 160,000 m $$^3$$ 3 /h of fresh air with about 30 Bq/m $$^3$$ 3 $$^{222}$$ 222 Rn from the bottom of the vertical tunnel after the installation of powerful fans. Of this, 55,000 m $$^3$$ 3 /h is used for ventilation in the main hall. As a result of these measures, the radon concentration inside the main hall has decreased from 1600 Bq/m $$^3$$ 3 to below 200 Bq/m $$^3$$ 3 under stable working conditions, with exceptions during rare adverse weather events or fan failures. The employed strategies to control radon concentration in the underground air are described in this paper.

Abstract Background Childhood obesity became a severe public health challenge, and insulin resistance (IR) was one of the common complications. Both obesity and IR were considered as the basis of metabolic disorders. However, it is unclear which common key metabolites are associated with childhood obesity and IR. Methods The children were divided into normal weight and overweight/obese groups. Fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin were measured, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance was calculated. Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry was applied for metabonomic analysis. Multiple linear regression analysis and correlation analysis explored the relationships between obesity, IR, and metabolites. Random forests were used to rank the importance of differential metabolites, and relative operating characteristic curves were used for prediction. Results A total of 88 normal‐weight children and 171 obese/overweight children participated in the study. There was a significant difference between the two groups in 30 metabolites. Childhood obesity was significantly associated with 10 amino acid metabolites and 20 fatty acid metabolites. There were 12 metabolites significantly correlated with IR. The ranking of metabolites in random forest showed that glutamine, tyrosine, and alanine were important in amino acids, and pyruvic‐ox‐2, ethylmalonic‐2, and phenyllactic‐2 were important in fatty acids. The area under the curve of body mass index standard deviation score (BMI‐SDS) combined with key amino acid metabolites and fatty acid metabolites for predicting IR was 80.0% and 76.6%, respectively. Conclusions There are common key metabolites related to IR and obese children, and these key metabolites combined with BMI‐SDS could effectively predict the risk of IR.

Growth differentiation among farmed sea urchins (Strongylocentrotus intermedius) poses a significant challenge to aquaculture, with there being a limited understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms. In this study, sea urchins with varying growth rates, reared under identical conditions, were analyzed for feeding behavior, gut microbiota, and transcriptomes. Large-sized sea urchins demonstrated significantly higher feeding ability and longer duration than smaller ones. The dominant phyla across all size groups were Campylobacterota, Proteobacteria, and Firmicutes, with Campylobacterota showing the highest abundance in small-sized sea urchins (82.6%). However, the families Lachnospiraceae and Pseudomonadaceae were significantly less prevalent in small-sized sea urchins. Transcriptome analysis identified 214, 544, and 732 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the large vs. medium, large vs. small, and medium vs. small comparisons, respectively. Gene Ontology and KEGG pathway analyses associated DEGs with key processes such as steroid biosynthesis, protein processing within the endoplasmic reticulum, and nucleotide sugar metabolism. Variations in phagosomes and signaling pathways indicated that size differences are linked to disparities in energy expenditure and stress responses. These findings provide a foundation for future investigations into the regulatory mechanisms underlying growth differences in S. intermedius and provide clues for the screening of molecular markers useful to improve sea urchin production.

Cancer and diabetes are significant diseases that pose a threat to human health. Their interconnection is complex, particularly when they coexist, often necessitating multiple therapeutic approaches to attain remission. Sodium-glucose cotransporter protein two inhibitors (SGLT-2i) emerged as a treatment for hyperglycemia, but subsequently exhibited noteworthy extra-glycemic properties, such as being registered for the treatment of heart failure and chronic kidney disease, especially with co-existing albuminuria, prompting its assessment as a potential treatment for various non-metabolic diseases. Considering its overall tolerability and established use in diabetes management, SGLT-2i may be a promising candidate for cancer therapy and as a supplementary component to conventional treatments. This narrative review aimed to examine the potential roles and mechanisms of SGLT-2i in the management of diverse types of cancer. Future investigations should focus on elucidating the antitumor efficacy of individual SGLT-2i in different cancer types and exploring the underlying mechanisms. Additionally, clinical trials to evaluate the safety and feasibility of incorporating SGLT-2i into the treatment regimen of specific cancer patients and determining appropriate dosage combinations with established antitumor agents would be of significant interest.

Brain imaging methods have effectively revealed drivers' underlying psychological and neural processes when they perform driving tasks and promote driving behavior research in a more scientific direction. With research no longer limited to indirect inferences about external behavior, some researchers combine behavior and driver brain activity to understand the human factors in driving essentially. However, most researchers in the field of driving behavior still have little understanding of how brain imaging methods are used. This paper aims to review and analyze the application of brain imaging methods in driving behavior research, including bibliometric analysis and an individual critical literature review. Regarding bibliometric analysis, this field's knowledge structure and development trend are described macroscopically, using data such as annual distribution of publications, country/region statistics and partnerships, publication sources, literature co-citation analysis, and keyword co-occurrence analysis. In a review of the individual critical literature, eight research themes were identified that examined driving behavior using brain imaging methods: substance consumption, fatigue or sleep deprivation, workload, distraction, aging brains, brain impairment and other diseases, automated/semi-automated environments, emotions influence and risk-taking, and general driving process. In addition, the study reports on six brain imaging methods and their advantages and disadvantages, involving electroencephalography (EEG), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), magnetoencephalography (MEG), positron emission tomography (PET), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). The contribution of this study is twofold. The first part relates to providing the researchers with a comprehensive understanding of the field's knowledge structure and development trends. The second part goes beyond reviewing and analyzing previous studies, and the discussion section points out the directions and challenges for future research.

Abstract Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most common and serious microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus. There are many factors leading to diabetic retinopathy, and its pathogenesis is still unclear. At present, there are still no effective measures for the early treatment of diabetic retinopathy, and the treatment options available when diabetes progresses to advanced stages are very limited, and the treatment results are often unsatisfactory. Detailed studies on the molecular mechanisms of diabetic retinopathy pathogenesis and the development of new therapeutic agents are of great importance. This review describes the potential pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy for experimental studies and clinical practice.

In this paper, by comparing the archaeological remains of meditation caves in Kucha and Termez and by referring to Buddhist literature, we aim at gaining a better understanding of how meditation was practiced in both regions. In Kucha and Termez the arid climate shifted between extreme summer heat and extreme winter cold, making the caves ideal choices for meditation. In Kucha, various types of meditation caves have been recorded. These include small cells for seated meditation, single corridors, and corridors that intersect to form a cross or an inverted U plan. The latter type is associated with a residence and a courtyard, which show many similarities with the complexes located in the mounds south and west of the monastery of Kara Tepe. Two possible uses of the corridor-shaped caves have been proposed based on various factors, such as the distance of the caves from the surface monastery, the similarity of the type, the presence of a courtyard in front of the caves, and the existence of a cell where a person could repose. Buddhist accounts remark on the importance of mindful pacing (Skt. caṅkrama; Chi. jingxing 經行) along with sitting meditation in the daily practice of bhikṣus. According to descriptions in the vinaya, we can infer the possibility of having several types of pathways for mindful pacing, besides the most common straight path. Note also that various ancient records of Buddhist monks mention monuments associated with mindful pacing. Drawing on both architectural remains of the investigated areas and textual evidence, we suggest that the carved corridors, both single and intersecting, might have been specifically designed for mindful pacing. In the better-preserved complexes, the length of the courtyard’s sides corresponds with that of the corridors. While the courtyard could have been utilized for various activities, the similarity in size between corridors and the courtyard hints at its potential use for mindful pacing in mild weather. Furthermore, because the Kara Tepe monastery could accommodate less than fifteen monks, the presence of several meditation complexes, each consisting of four intersecting corridors and a small cell, implies that these units were intended for a monk to live in seclusion for a period.

The delay in wound healing caused by chronic wounds or pathological scars is a pressing issue in clinical practice, imposing significant economic and psychological burdens on patients. In particular, with the aging of the population and the increasing incidence of diseases such as diabetes, impaired wound healing is one of the growing health problems. MicroRNA (miRNA) plays a crucial role in wound healing and regulates various biological processes. Our results show that miR–618 was significantly upregulated during the inflammatory phase of wound healing.Subsequently, miR–618 promotes the secretion of pro–inflammatory cytokines and regulates the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes. Mechanistically, miR–618 binds to the target gene–Atp11b and inhibits the PI3K–Akt signaling pathway, inhibiting the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) of keratinocytes. In addition, the PI3K–Akt signaling pathway induces the enrichment of nuclear miR–618, and miR–618 binds to the promoter of Lin7a to regulate gene transcription. Intradermal injection of miR–618 antagomir around full–thickness wounds in peridermal mice effectively accelerates wound closure compared to control. In conclusion, miR–618 antagomir can be a potential therapeutic agent for wound healing.

In the context of carbon neutrality, the low-carbon transition in agriculture is crucial to achieving carbon mitigation through clean production. The provision of agricultural productive services (APS) is pivotal for modernizing farming practices in China. However, the impact of this on the low-carbon transformation has received limited attention. This research examined the non-linear relationship between agricultural productive services and low-carbon development, including verifying a threshold effect with APS as the threshold variable, employing panel data for 31 provinces in China from 2010 to 2021. The results of the study suggested that the effect of services associated with agricultural productivity on the transition of the agricultural sector to low-carbon practices varied across threshold ranges. Specifically, when the APS exceeded the threshold of 2.4396, a significant suppressive effect was observed on carbon emission intensity. Further analysis revealed that APS indirectly influenced the farmland scale and agricultural technological advancements, thereby promoting the low-carbon transition of China’s agriculture. Based on these results, it is recommended to intensify the development of APS in key cereal-producing regions, while emphasizing the harmonious progress of these services in conjunction with large-scale farmland management.

PurposeThe purpose of the present study is to examine the factors contributing to the development of eating behavior in overweight and obese children from the perspective of the family system.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted by using convenience sampling method to select 388 participants in two primary schools in Jiangsu, China. Individual, family and social-related factors were collected. Individual factors included age, gender, ethnicity, single child, social anxiety, depression, physical activity, sleep duration, screen time. Family factors included family environment, family structure, family function, family income, parenting style, parental feeding behavior, home food environment and marital satisfaction. Social-related factors included place of residence, number of surrounding restaurants and social support. Univariate analysis, correlation analysis and multivariate analysis were used to identify factors of eating behavior among Chinese children with overweight and obese.ResultsIn this study, 388 participants took part with a 94.865% response rate. In the univariate analysis, the significant differences regarding Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) scores were found between children aged 6–9 years and those aged >9 years. BackgroundPrevious studies showed that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are widely found in the environment, can disrupt endocrine homeostasis when they enter the human body. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate current human epidemiological evidence on the relationship between PFAS exposure and glucolipid metabolism in childhood and adolescence.MethodsWe searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases, and identified population-based epidemiological studies related to PFAS and glucolipid metabolism indexes that were published before 30 December 2022. The heterogeneity of the included literature was assessed using the I-square (I2) test and statistics Q. Random-effects and fixed-effects models were used to combine the effect size. Subgroup analysis based on age and sex of the study participants was performed. A sensitivity analysis was used to evaluate the robustness and reliability of the combined results. Egger’s and Begg’s tests were used to analyze publication bias.ResultsA total of 12 studies were included in this analysis. There was a positive association between PFAS and TC (β = 1.110, 95% CI: 0.601, 1.610) and LDL (β = 1.900, 95% CI: 1.030, 2.770), and a negative association between PFAS and HOMA-IR in children and adolescents (β = −0.130, 95% CI: −0. 200, −0.059). PFOS was significant positive associated with TC (β = 8.22, 95% CI: 3.93, 12.51), LDL (β = (12.04, 95% CI: 5.08, 18.99), and HOMA-IR (β = −0.165, 95% CI: −0.292, −0.038). Subgroup analysis showed that exposure to PFAS in the adolescent group was positively associated with TC and LDL levels, and the relationship was stronger in females.ConclusionPFAS exposure is associated with glucolipid metabolism in children and adolescents. Among them, PFOS may play an important role. Recognition of environmental PFAS exposure is critical for stabilizing the glycolipid metabolism relationship during the growth and development of children and adolescents.

It is significant to obtain the particle distribution data for workpiece processing and industrial protection strategies. To simulate the particle dispersion in a high-concentration airtight space under unorganized airflow, a CFD-based simulation and experimental were utilized in this study. The proposed method works in three steps. The first step is to use Stokes-MRF-Fan-CFD model to simplify the distribution of high-concentration particles calculation to the dispersion state of the gas components. The second step is to compute the airflow patterns and dispersion of particles. The third step is to prove the feasibility of Stokes-MRF-Fan-CFD model. The results of this model in particle dispersion show ±200 mg·m −3 of absolute error, ±20% of relative error, and 88.5747 grade of simulation accuracy. And the results of particle concentration distribution can be mutually confirmed with the streamline and velocity vector distribution in the airtight space, providing a promising and innovative model for the particle dispersion in a high-concentration airtight space under unorganized airflow.

ObjectiveDiabetes-related kidney disease reduces patients' quality of life, increases the risk of death, and is associated with insulin resistance (IR). The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a simple and inexpensive alternative to IR measurement. Furthermore, the relationship between albuminuria and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association of TyG index with albuminuria and CKD in patients with T2DM.MethodsData from 01/2013-12/2017 period were obtained from the Population Health Data Archive's Diabetes Complications Data Set. A total of 1048 patients with T2DM were included in this study. CKD is defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 ml/min-1.1.73 m-2 or a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) ≥ 30 mg/g. Albuminuria is defined as a UACR ≥ 30 mg/g. The TyG index is calculated by measuring the triglyceride and fasting blood glucose levels. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the association between albuminuria, CKD with T2DM and TyG index.ResultsWe identified 1048 subjects, 63.03% of whom were men. The mean age was 46.21 years, and the mean body mass index was 26.742 kg/m2. CKD and albuminuria detection rates showed an increasing trend in the different TyG subgroups. (p = 0.008, p = 0.006). Using the Q1 group as a baseline, the risk of albuminuria and CKD was significantly greater in the group Q3 (OR = 1.514, 95% CI 1.121-2.047 P = 0.05), and the same result was obtained after adjusting for covariates (OR = 2.241, 95% CI 1.245-4.034, P = 0.007). Subgroup analyses revealed a significant increase in the incidence of albuminuria and CKD in the group Q3 compared to that in the Q1 group.ConclusionsThe TyG index is positively associated with albuminuria and CKD in patients with T2DM and may be a marker for predicting the occurrence of early kidney injury in patients with T2DM. Clinicians should test this indicator early to detect lesions and improve patient prognosis.

Objective To explore the potential value of magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT) enterography in the diagnosis of small intestinal tumor (SIT). Methods Articles reporting on the diagnosis of SIT by MR and CT enterography deposited in Chinese and foreign literature databases were identified and evaluated using the quality assessment of diagnostic accuracy studies (QUADAS). The diagnostic data extracted from the articles were adopted for meta-analysis using Meta-disc 1.40 software. Analysis was undertaken to compare the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios, and the diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) of MR and CT enterography in the diagnosis of SIT. The diagnostic values of the two imaging methods were analyzed by summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curves. The meta-analysis was registered at INPLASY (202380053). Results A total of eight articles, including 551 cases of SIT were included in this analysis. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of MR enterography were 0.92 (95% CI [0.89–0.95]) and 0.81 (95% CI [0.74–0.86]), respectively, whilst CT enterography had a sensitivity of 0.93 (95% CI [0.90–0.95]) and a specificity of 0.83 (95% CI [0.76–0.88]). For MR enterography, the combined positive likelihood ratio was 4.90 (95% CI [3.50–6.70]), the combined negative likelihood ratio was 0.10 (95% CI [0.07–0.14]), and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was 0.940. For CT enterography, the corresponding values were 5.40 (95% CI [3.90–7.40]), 0.08 (95% CI [0.06–0.12]), and 0.950, respectively. When the pretest probability for MR was assumed to be 50%, the posterior probabilities for positive and negative results were calculated as 83% and 9%, respectively. For CT enterography with a pretest probability of 50%, the posterior probabilities of positive and negative results were 84% and 8%, respectively. Conclusion MR and CT enterography have high accuracy in the diagnosis of SIT and have a valuable role in the diagnosis and management of these tumors.

Abstract Background Premature infants are inevitably exposed to painful events, including repetitive procedures, inflammation, or mixed stimulation that may induce long‐term behavioral outcomes. Here, we set up three neonatal painful models to investigate their long‐term effect on somatosensation and cognition. Methods Three types of neonatal pain models in rat were set up. Rat pups were randomly assigned to four groups. The needling pain (NP) group received repetitive needle pricks on the paws from the day of birth (PD0) to postnatal day 7 (PD7) to mimic the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The inflammatory pain (IP) group received the injection of carrageenan into the left hindpaw at PD3 to induce IP in peripheral tissues. The mixed pain group received a combination of the NP and IP (NIP). The control (CON) group was untreated. We performed behavioral and biochemical testing of juvenile rats (PD21–PD26). Results The NIP group showed a longer hypersensitivity than the NP group, when given a secondary inflammatory stimulation. NP led to insensitivity to anxiety‐causing stimuli and impairment of fear memory both aggravated by NIP. NP reduced the expression of synapse‐related molecules (GluN1/PSD95/GFAP) in the medial prefrontal cortex, and NIP exacerbated this decrease. The corticosterone secretion in the NIP group increased after the behavioral task, compared with those in other three groups. Conclusion A combination of NP with inflammation occurring in the neonatal period might aggravate the adverse effects of each on somatosensory and cognitive development of rats, the mechanism of which might be associated with the increase of corticosterone secretion and the dysregulation of synaptic molecules.

AbstractBackground Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are widely used for industrial and commercial purposes and have received increasing attention due to their adverse effects on health.Objective To examine the relationship of serum PFAS and glycometabolism among adolescents based on the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.Methods General linear regression models were applied to estimate the relationship between exposure to single PFAS and glycometabolism. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression models and Bayesian kernel machine regressions (BKMR) were used to assess the associations between multiple PFASs mixture exposure and glycometabolism.Results A total of 757 adolescents were enrolled. Multivariable regression model showed that Me-PFOSA-AcOH exposure was negatively associated with fasting blood glucose. Abstract This paper aims to improve the efficiency of parameter identification of the nonlinear state‐space model (SSM). The commonly used particle Markov chain Monte Carlo (PMCMC) method is time‐consuming. The surrogate model is a useful acceleration strategy, but it is expensive to establish a global high‐precision surrogate model. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm that gradually estimates the unknown parameters in two stages. In the first stage, a reduced region is established based on the latest method. We train a local Gaussian Process regression (GPR) of the likelihood function in the reduced region based on the optimum Latin hypercube design (OLHD). In the second stage, we identify the unknown parameters more accurately based on the MCMC method. When the proposal sample is in the reduced region, we use GPR to estimate the likelihood; otherwise, BPF is used to estimate the likelihood. The reduced region is usually the high probability density region, which is why the algorithm is efficient. It is proved that the acceptance rate of any two samples based on the proposed algorithm is theoretically convergent to that of the PMCMC algorithm. Two examples demonstrate that the proposed method performs well in accuracy and efficiency.

Abstract Background Respiratory symptoms are the earliest clinical manifestation of Talaromyces marneffei (TM) infection. In this study, we aimed to improve the early identification of TM infection in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative children with respiratory symptoms as the first manifestation, analyze the risk factors, and provide evidence for diagnosis and treatment. Methods We retrospectively analyzed six cases of HIV-negative children with respiratory system infection symptoms as the first presentation. Results All subjects (100%) had cough and hepatosplenomegaly, and five subjects (83.3%) had a fever; other symptoms and signs included lymph node enlargement, rash, rales, wheezing, hoarseness, hemoptysis, anemia, and thrush. Additionally, 66.7% of the cases had underlying diseases (three had malnutrition, one had severe combined immune deficiency [SCID]). The most common coinfecting pathogen was Pneumocystis jirovecii, which occurred in two cases (33.3%), followed by one case of Aspergillus sp. (16.6%). Furthermore, the value of β-D-glucan detection (G test) increased in 50% of the cases, while the proportion of NK decreased in six cases (100%). Five children (83.3%) were confirmed to have the pathogenic genetic mutations. Three children (50%) were treated with amphotericin B, voriconazole, and itraconazole, respectively; three children (50%) were treated with voriconazole and itraconazole. All children were tested for itraconazole and voriconazole plasma concentrations throughout antifungal therapy. Two cases (33.3%) relapsed after drug withdrawal within 1 year, and the average duration of antifungal treatment for all children was 17.7 months. Conclusion The first manifestation of TM infection in children is respiratory symptoms, which are nonspecific and easily misdiagnosed. When the effectiveness of anti-infection treatment is poor for recurrent respiratory tract infections, we must consider the condition with an opportunistic pathogen and attempt to identify the pathogen using various samples and detection methods to confirm the diagnosis. It is recommended the course for anti-TM disease be longer than one year for children with immune deficiency. Monitoring the blood concentration of antifungal drugs is important.

Abstract Background Nasopharyngeal swabs are taken to determine the causative agent of community acquired pneumonia (CAP), while the reliability of upper respiratory tract sampling as a proxy for lower respiratory tract infections is still unclear. Methods Nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples and clinical data were collected from 153 hospitalized children between 3 months and 14 years of age with severe CAP, enrolled from March to June 2019. Written informed consent for the storage and use of the samples for further studies was obtained from the parents or caregivers. Putative pathogens were detected using a sensitive, high-throughput GeXP-based multiplex PCR and qPCR. Results The same bacterial species in paired samples were found in 29 (23.4%) and the same viral species in 52 (27.5%) of the patients. moderate concordance was found for Mycoplasma pneumoniae (ĸ=0.64), followed by Haemophilus influenzae (ĸ=0.42). The strongest discordance was observed for human adenovirus and also for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the latter was exclusively detected in BAL samples. In the adenovirus cases strong concordance was associated with high viral loads in the NP swabs. Conclusion The variation in concordance in pathogen detection in the upper and lower respiratory tract of children with severe pneumonia is generally high but varies depending on the species. Novel and impactful insights are the concordance between NP and BAL detection for M. pneumoniae and H. influenzae and the strong correlation between high adenoviral loads in NP swabs and detection in BAL fluid.

Accurate inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) canal segmentation has been considered a crucial task in dentistry. Failing to accurately identify the position of the IAN canal may lead to nerve injury during dental procedures. While IAN canals can be detected from dental cone beam computed tomography, they are usually difficult for dentists to precisely identify as the canals are thin, small, and span across many slices. This paper focuses on improving accuracy in segmenting the IAN canals. By integrating our proposed frequency-domain attention mechanism in UNet, the proposed frequency attention UNet (FAUNet) is able to achieve 75.55% and 81.35% in the Dice and surface Dice coefficients, respectively, which are much higher than other competitive methods, by adding only 224 parameters to the classical UNet. Compared to the classical UNet, our proposed FAUNet achieves a 2.39% and 2.82% gain in the Dice coefficient and the surface Dice coefficient, respectively. The potential advantage of developing attention in the frequency domain is also discussed, which revealed that the frequency-domain attention mechanisms can achieve better performance than their spatial-domain counterparts.

BackgroundRates of overweight and obesity continue to grow in adolescents. Overweight and obesity in adolescence are associated with numerous immediate and long-term adverse health conditions. Throughout adolescence, parents and the family have an important and central influence on adolescents' health and lifestyle. The home environment may be a major factor in shaping children's weight. However, our current understanding of the interplay between family-related variables in adolescents with overweight or obesity is limited and fragmented. This study aimed to assess the relationship between family-related variables in adolescents who are overweight or obese using network analysis and inform future health promotion for family-based intervention.MethodsParticipants (n = 488) were recruited from middle schools in Nanjing from October 2022 to March 2023. Participants, together with their parents, completed a questionnaire at school about the family food environment, family size, family APGAR index, family physical activity facilities, parental mental health, rearing behavior, parental weight status, drinking history, marital satisfaction, and sociodemographic characteristics.ResultsThe network split into three distinct communities of items. Network analysis showed that parental mental health and paternal rearing styles-rejection were the most central nodes in the network. In contrast, maternal weight status was the most peripheral and least connected nodes.ConclusionFamily-related variables constituted a connected network in adolescents with overweight or obesity. The pattern of network node connections supports that interventions could prioritize targeting changing parental mental health and paternal rearing styles in adolescents with overweight or obesity.

With the growing number of individuals regularly using e-cigarettes, it has become increasingly important to understand the psychobiological effects of nicotine salts. Nicotine increases the release of dopamine (DA) into the nucleus accumbens (NAc), causing feelings of satisfaction. However, the differences in the DA-increasing effects of different nicotine salts have not been reported. In this study, we used a G protein-coupled receptor-activated DA fluorescent probe (GRABDA1m) and optical fiber photometric recording equipment to monitor the dynamic changes and kinetics of DA release in the NAc of mice exposed to different e-cigarette aerosols, including nicotine, nicotine benzoate, nicotine tartrate, nicotine lactate, nicotine levulinic acid, nicotine malate, and nicotine citrate. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Different types of nicotine salts could increase the release of DA in the NAc. 2) The slopes and half-effective concentrations of the fitted curves were different, suggesting that each nicotine salt had a difference in the efficiency of increasing DA release with concentration changes. 3) The absorption rates of different nicotine salts containing the same original nicotine concentration were significantly different by measuring the blood nicotine content. The effect of nicotine salts on increasing DA was directly proportional to the blood nicotine level. In conclusion, by observing the effects of nicotine salts on DA release in real time in vivo, differences in the pharmacological effects of nicotine salts are revealed to better understand the mechanism underlying the regulatory effects of nicotine salts on the brain.

In this article, a broadband metamaterial absorber suitable for the S, C, and X bands is designed and manufactured. The absorber is made of FR-4 substrate, resonant metal structure, lumped resistance, and metal backplate, has a unit size of 0.11λL, and a total thickness of 0.084λL. The absorption principle of the absorber is analyzed using equivalent medium theory and parametric research. The calculation results show that the absorber achieves more than 90% broadband absorption (relative bandwidth of 130%) between 2.7 GHz and 12.7 GHz, has a good polarization angle and incidence angle insensitivity, uses electromagnetic resonance to explain its absorption characteristics, and experiments confirm that the absorber has good broadband absorption. The proposed absorber has higher absorption and simpler construction than the previously described broadband absorber, and it has the potential for practical applications in EMC, radar, and electromagnetic protection.

Abstract Main goal of the JUNO experiment is to determine the neutrino mass ordering using a 20 kt liquid-scintillator detector. Its key feature is an excellent energy resolution of at least 3% at 1 MeV, for which its instruments need to meet a certain quality and thus have to be fully characterized. More than 20,000 20-inch PMTs have been received and assessed by JUNO after a detailed testing program which began in 2017 and elapsed for about four years. Based on this mass characterization and a set of specific requirements, a good quality of all accepted PMTs could be ascertained. This paper presents the performed testing procedure with the designed testing systems as well as the statistical characteristics of all 20-inch PMTs intended to be used in the JUNO experiment, covering more than fifteen performance parameters including the photocathode uniformity. This constitutes the largest sample of 20-inch PMTs ever produced and studied in detail to date, i.e. 15,000 of the newly developed 20-inch MCP-PMTs from Northern Night Vision Technology Co. (NNVT) and 5000 of dynode PMTs from Hamamatsu Photonics K. K.(HPK).
