Plesiomonas shigelloides (P. shigelloides), a dominant pathogenic strain identified as YY001, was successfully isolated and characterized from the hepatopancreas of diseased Mastacembelus armatus (M. armatus) for the first time. The strain was identified through a comprehensive approach that included morphological, physiological, and biochemical characterization, as well as 16S rRNA, 23S rRNA, and gyrB gene sequence analysis. Strain YY001 is classified as a Gram-negative bacterium, with optimal growth conditions observed at 28°C and pH 7.0. Results from the bacterium hemolysis test indicated the absence of hemolytic activity in YY001. However, the strain exhibited amplification of nine virulence genes: nanE, waaA, clpP, ssb, actP, aphA, astA, astD, and astB. Drug-resistance testing showed that YY001 displayed resistance only to penicillin G, oxacillin, norfloxacin, and tetracycline, while remaining sensitive to the majority of other antibiotics. Furthermore, nine drug-resistance genes, including emrD, catB, macB, ksgA, tolC, bacA, MdfA, sul1, and DegP, were detected through amplification. Experimental infection demonstrated that YY001 induced symptoms such as abdominal swelling, visceral edema, and hemorrhage, with hepatopancreatic manifestations being particularly severe. The median lethal dosage of strain YY001 in M. armatus was 9.7×108 colony-forming units (CFU)/mL within 48 h, and 4.9×106 CFU/mL within 192 h under the conditions of intraperitoneal injection. The hepatopancreas, gill, and intestine of infected fish showed obvious pathological symptoms, including tissue loosening, hemorrhage, and cell necrosis. The results of this study provided evidence for a more comprehensive understanding of P. shigelloides strain YY001 infection in M. armatus.

Mastacembelus armatus is an important economic fish in China. Since males grow faster and larger than females, breeding monosex M. armatus has great value in the aquaculture industry. Cultivating YY fish is the key to producing genetically all male M. armatus. However, there have been no reports on production of fertile YY supermale, and the production technique of all-male fish has not yet been established in M. armatus. In this study, YY M. armatus offspring were obtained by mating XY pseudofemales with XY males and it was proved that YY fish is sublethal. The offspring were cultured under LE and AS treatment, followed by sex-linked marker screening, to obtain YY pseudofemales and YY supermales, respectively. A portion of YY supermales proved to be viable and fertile, but the fertility of YY pseudofemale still needs further verification. Subsequently, by mating XX females with YY supermales and performing AS treatment on their offspring, mass production of genetically all male M. armatus could be achieved. For the first time, YY M. armatus was confirmed to be able to survive and has obtained fertile YY supermale fish. In addition, marker assisted selection (MAS) technique was established to produce genetically all male fish (GM) in M. armatus (MAS-GM technique). This is expected to significantly increase the yield and economic benefits of the M. armatus aquaculture industry. Beyond that, YY fish provides useful material for understanding the sex determination mechanism of M. armatus. In summary, MAS-GM technique can achieve the all-male breeding of M. armatus, laying the foundation for the development of standardized M. armatus farming.

Probiotics are important natural nutritional immune enhancers in aquaculture. The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of single or combined supplementation with marine fish probiotics on growth performance, intestinal physiology, gut microbes, and gut metabolites in zig-zag eel (Mastacembelus armatus). A total of 1500 three-month-old healthy M. armatus were randomly divided into 5 groups: CON (control group), BC (Bacillus cereus G1–11 group), EA (Exiguobacterium acetylicum G1–33 group), MIX (the compound probiotics group), PC (the commercial probiotics group), and the feeding period was 8 weeks. Summary: Background: Accurate staging of liver fibrosis (LF) is essential for clinical management in chronic liver disease. While non-contrast MRI (NC-MRI) yields valuable information for liver assessment, its effectiveness in predicting LF remains underexplored. This study aimed to develop and validate artificial intelligence (AI)-powered models utilizing NC-MRI for staging LF. Methods: A total of 1726 patients from Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, registered between October 2003 and October 2022, were retrospectively collected, and divided into development (n = 1208) and internal test (n = 518) cohorts. An external test cohort consisting of 337 individuals from six centers, registered between June 2015 and November 2022, were also included. All participants underwent NC-MRI (T1-weighted imaging, T1WI; and T2-fat-suppressed imaging, T2FS) and liver biopsies. Two classification models (CMs), named T1 and T2FS, were trained on respective image types using 3D contextual transformer networks and evaluated on both test cohorts. Additionally, three CMs—Clinic, Image, and Fusion—were developed using clinical features, T1 and T2FS scores, and their integration via logistic regression. Classification effectiveness of CMs was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). A comparison was conducted between the optimal models (OMs) with highest AUC and other methods (transient elastography, five serum biomarkers, and six radiologists). Findings: Fusion models (i.e., OM) yielded the highest AUC among the CMs, achieving AUCs of 0.810 for significant fibrosis, 0.881 for advanced fibrosis, and 0.918 for cirrhosis in the internal test cohort, and 0.808, 0.868, and 0.925, respectively, in the external test cohort. The OMs demonstrated superior performance in AUC, significantly surpassing transient elastography (only for staging ≥ F2 and ≥ F3 grades), serum biomarkers, and three junior radiologists for staging LF. Radiologists, with the aid of the OMs, can achieve a higher AUC in LF assessment. Interpretation: AI-powered models utilizing NC-MRI, including T1WI and T2FS, accurately stage LF. Introduction. This paper is based on the third Edition of the RNAO “Pain Assessment and Management” guideline applied to total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients and the evaluation of clinical practice guidelines on pain management and patient satisfaction. Objective: To apply the Third Edition Guideline for the Pain Assessment and Management from RNAO to patients after total hip arthroplasty and evaluate its effectiveness. Division of topics covered. Evaluate the knowledge, assessment of pain by nursing, and satisfaction in the care of patients with total hip arthroplasty before and after the implementation of the guide, according to the Knowledge to Action Framework. According to 20 recommendations from the Guideline, 6 quality review indicators were formulated: 1. Establish and implement standard assessment processes and forms; 2. Conduct nurse training and patient education; 3. Compare nurses’ pain knowledge and attitude levels before and after evidence-based practice; 4. Compare nurses’ implementation of various indicators of patient pain assessment and management; 5. Compare pain control satisfaction of total hip arthroplasty patients before and after Best Practice Guideline implementation; and 6. Ensure nurses use the same proven tool to assess pain in patients. Results. After implementing the Guideline, the rate of nurses’ knowledge of pain assessment and management has increased from 42.6% to 48%. Background/Objectives: Gardeniae Fructus (GF) has been widely used as both food and medicinal purposes for thousands of years, but their antioxidant properties and potential metabolite biomarkers remain unclear. Methods: The purposes of this study were to examine antioxidant activities of 21 GF varieties from different geographical origins in China and identify potential biomarkers of antioxidant properties using an untargeted LC–MS-based metabolomics approach. Results: The results demonstrate that metabolomics had the ability to trace the geographical origins of GF. We found that antioxidant activities varied with different varieties of GF, which was dependent on their chemical compositions. The key chemical categories were obtained as the primary contributors of the antioxidant activity, including prenol lipids, flavonoids, coumarins and derivatives, as well as steroids and steroid derivatives. In addition, adouetine Y, coagulin R 3-glucoside and epicatechin 3-glucoside were identified as potential biomarkers for the antioxidant activity of GF. Conclusions: Therefore, our study sheds light on the metabolic characteristics and biomarkers of the antioxidant properties of GF, contributing to the selection and cultivation of a high antioxidant variety.

The structural adhesive bonding of aluminum is widely used in the aircraft and automotive industries. The surface preparation of aluminum prior to adhesive bonding plays a significant role in improving the bonding strength. Surface cleanliness, surface roughness, and surface chemistry can be controlled, primarily, by proper surface treatment methods. In this study, the effect of varying the chemical treatment period on the adhesive bonding characteristics was investigated. An epoxy adhesive was used to join the treated surfaces, and the bond strengths were evaluated via single lap-shear (SLS) tests in pristine, as well as degraded, conditions. The surface morphology, chemistry, and corrosion properties of the surfaces with chemical treatments were characterized using various surface analytical tools, such as scanning electron microscopy, an energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM/EDX), and an electrochemical workstation. Excellent adhesion characteristics, with the complete cohesive failure of the adhesive, were encountered on the surfaces of the H2O2-treated samples. The H2O2-treated samples exhibited the highest initial bond strength, reaching 22.5 ± 0.5 MPa, and showed a decrease of only 10% (to 18.1 ± 0.2 MPa) after aging under extreme humidity and temperature conditions (70 °C and 100% R.H. for 4 weeks). The chemical treatment reported in this work is a very simple method to produce durable joints.

In this study, four groups of diet were prepared, with eel commercial diet without hydrolyzable tannin (HT) as the control group (H0), and the other three groups were fed with diet containing 0.05% (H1), 0.1% (H2), and 0.2% (H3) doses of HT to juvenile Mastacembelus armatus with an initial body weight of (0.40 ± 0.005) g. Juvenile fish in all groups were fed continuously for 60 days. Growth indices, hepatopancreatic antioxidant enzymes, biochemical indices (including total superoxide dismutase [T-SOD], catalase [CAT], malondialdehyde [MDA], total antioxidant capacity [T-AOC], alanine aminotransferase [ALT], aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alkaline phosphatase [AKP], and triglyceride [TG]), the content of muscle amino acids and fatty acids, stomach and intestine enzyme activities (pepsin, amylase, lipase), and genes expressions were evaluated. The results showed that 0.1% HT significantly improved the growth performance, hepatopancreatic antioxidant capacity, as well as muscle quality and lipase activity of juvenile M. armatus. In summary, the optimal addition level of HT in the diet of juvenile M. armatus is 0.1%, which helps to improve aquaculture efficiency and improve the muscle quality of M. armatus. However, the long-term effects of feeding HT on M. armatus and its physiological reaction mechanism need to be further explored.

Abstract Xenogenic organ transplantation has been considered the most promising strategy in providing possible substitutes with the physiological function of the failing organs as well as solving the problem of insufficient donor sources. However, the xenograft, suffered from immune rejection and ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), causes massive reactive oxygen species (ROS) expression and the subsequent cell apoptosis, leading to the xenograft failure. Our previous study found a positive role of PPAR-γ in anti-inflammation through its immunomodulation effects, which inspires us to apply PPAR-γ agonist rosiglitazone (RSG) to address survival issue of xenograft with the potential to eliminate the excessive ROS. In this study, xenogenic bioroot was constructed by wrapping the dental follicle cells (DFC) with porcine extracellular matrix (pECM). The hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced DFC was pretreated with RSG to observe its protection on the damaged biological function. Immunoflourescence staining and transmission electron microscope were used to detect the intracellular ROS level. SD rat orthotopic transplantation model and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) knockout mice subcutaneous transplantation model were applied to explore the regenerative outcome of the xenograft. It showed that RSG pretreatment significantly reduced the adverse effects of H2O2 on DFC with decreased intracellular ROS expression and alleviated mitochondrial damage. In vivo results confirmed RSG administration substantially enhanced the host’s antioxidant capacity with reduced osteoclasts formation and increased periodontal ligament-like tissue regeneration efficiency, maximumly maintaining the xenograft function. We considered that RSG preconditioning could preserve the biological properties of the transplanted stem cells under oxidative stress (OS) microenvironment and promote organ regeneration by attenuating the inflammatory reaction and OS injury.

BackgroundThe neonatal sequential organ failure assessment (nSOFA) score is an operational definition of organ dysfunction employed to predict sepsis-associated mortality. However, the relationship between the nSOFA score and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) has not been investigated clearly. This study evaluates whether the nSOFA score within 72 h after delivery could be used to predict the occurrence of BPD in very preterm infants.MethodsIn this retrospective, single-center cohort study, preterm infants born between 2019 and 2021 were investigated, the nSOFA score was calculated from medical records after admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) within 72 h after delivery, and the peak value was used for calculation. A logistic regression model was used to evaluate the relationship between the nSOFA score and BPD. Propensity score matching and subgroup analysis were performed to verify the reliability of the results.ResultsOf 238 infants meeting the inclusion criteria, 93 infants (39.1%) were diagnosed with BPD. The receiver operating characteristic curve of the nSOFA score in predicting BPD was 0.790 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.731–0.849]. The logistic regression model showed that an increment of one in the nSOFA score was related to a 2.09-fold increase in the odds of BPD (95% CI: 1.57–2.76) and 6.36-fold increase when the nSOFA score was higher than 1.5 (95% CI: 2.73–14.79).ConclusionsThe nSOFA score within 72 h after delivery is independently related to BPD and can be used to identify high-risk infants and implement early interventions.

Abstract Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a malignant tumor with invasive and metastatic characteristics and poor prognosis. Intracellular protein homeostasis is associated with invasion and metastasis of pancreatic cancer, but the specific molecular mechanism remains unclear. Our previous studies have revealed that DNAJB11, a key protein in protein homeostasis, is secreted by exosomes in the supernatant of dissociated pancreatic cancer cells with high metastasis. The results from transcriptome sequencing and co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP)-based liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) showed that depletion of DNAJB11 levels could increase HSPA5 expression and induce endoplasmic reticulum stress through the PRKR-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase signaling pathway in pancreatic cancer cells. Furthermore, exosomal DNAJB11 promoted cell development of PC cells in vitro and in vivo. In addition, exosomal DNAJB11 could regulate the expression of EGFR and activate the downstream MAPK signaling pathway. Clinical blood samples were collected to evaluate the potential of exosome DNAJB11 as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. This study could provide a new theoretical basis and potential molecular targets for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Vibrio alginolyticus (V. alginolyticus) is one of the major pathogens causing mass mortality of shrimps worldwide, affecting energy metabolism, immune response and development of shrimps. In the context of the prohibition of antibiotics, it is necessary to develop a drug that can protect shrimp from V. alginolyticus. Andrographolide (hereinafter called Andr), a traditional drug used in Chinese medicine, which possesses diverse biological effects including anti-bacteria, antioxidant, immune regulation. In this study, we investigated the effect of Andr on growth, immunity, and resistance to V. alginolyticus infection of Litopenaeus vannamei (L. vannamei) and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Four diets were formulated by adding Andr at the dosage of 0 g/kg (Control), 0.5 g/kg, 1 g/kg, and 2 g/kg in the basal diet, respectively. Each diet was randomly fed to one group with three replicates of shrimps in a 4-week feeding trial. The results showed that dietary Andr improved the growth performance and non-specific immune function of shrimps. L. vannamei fed with Andr diets showed lower mortality after being challenged by V. alginolyticus. After 6 h of V. alginolyticus infection, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, tissue injury, apoptosis, expression of inflammatory factors (IL-1 β and TNFα) and apoptosis-related genes (Bax, caspase3 and p53) were increased in hemocytes and hepatopancreas, while feeding diet with 0.5 g/kg Andr could inhibit the increase. Considering that JNK are important mediators of apoptosis, we examined the influence of Andr on JNK activity during V. alginolyticus infection. We found that Andr inhibited JNK activation induced by V. alginolyticus infection on L. vannamei. The ROS scavenger N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) suppressed V. alginolyticus-induced inflammation and apoptosis, suggesting that ROS play an important role in V. alginolyticus-induced inflammation and apoptosis. Treated cells with JNK specific activator anisomycin, the inflammation and apoptosis inhibited by Andr were counteracted. Collectively, Andr promote the growth and immunity of L. vannamei, and protects shrimps against V. alginolyticus by regulating inflammation and apoptosis via a ROS-JNK dependent pathway. These results improve the understanding of the pathogenesis of V. alginolyticus infection and provide clues to the development of effective drugs against V. alginolyticus.

In order to mitigate the crosstalk caused by oceanic turbulence in the underwater wireless orbital angular momentum multiplexing optical communication system, the application of space-time coding technology in the system was studied.Based on Rytov approximation, the covariance method and interpolation method were used to simulate correlated random phase screens and then the influence of time-varying oceanic turbulence channel on orbital angular momentum signal was studied.The transmission characteristics of orbital angular momentum multiplexing optical communication system with space-time coding was analyzed by simulation.The phase structure function of the time-varying phase screens and the detection probability distribution of the beam carrying the orbital angular momentum through the time-varying simulation channel were in line with theoretical expectations.The simulation results show that the space-time coding technology can effectively mitigate the influence of ocean turbulence on the system bit error rate.

Objective: To determine whether tumor shear stiffness, as measured by magnetic resonance elastography, corresponds with intratumoral consistency and histotype. Materials and methods: A total of 88 patients with 89 meningiomas (grade 1, 74 typical [13 fibroblastic, 61 non-fibroblastic]; grade 2, 12 atypical; grade 3, 3 anaplastic) were prospectively studied, each undergoing preoperative MRE in conjunction with T1-, T2- and diffusion-weighted imaging. Contrast-enhanced T1-weighted sequences were also obtained. Tumor consistency was evaluated as heterogeneous or homogenous, and graded on a 5-point scale intraoperatively. MRE-determined shear stiffness was associated with tumor consistency by surgeon’s evaluation and whole-slide histologic analyses. Results: Mean tumor stiffness overall was 3.81+/-1.74 kPa (range, 1.57–12.60 kPa), correlating well with intraoperative scoring (r = 0.748; p = 0.001). MRE performed well as a gauge of tumor consistency (AUC = 0.879, 95 % CI: 0.792–0.938) and heterogeneity (AUC = 0.773, 95 % CI: 0.618–0.813), significantly surpassing conventional MR techniques (DeLong test, all p 0.05). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are critical post-transcriptional regulators, which play a crucial role in resistance to adverse environmental stress by regulating autophagy. However, the mechanism of miRNA involved in the autophagy regulation of shrimp under ammonia nitrogen stress is still limited. In the present study, ammonia nitrogen could induce hepatopancreas injury and oxidative stress of P. vannamei, and significantly increase the content of ROS in hemocytes by flow cytometry. Simultaneously, it is accompanied by autophagy occurred in the hemocytes and hepatopancreas. Furthermore, the qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the expression of pva-miR-252 in P. vannamei decreased significantly after ammonia nitrogen stress, and pva-miR-252 negatively regulated PvPI3K by binding to 3′UTR of PvPI3K by double-luciferase assay. Pva-miR-252 overexpression could significantly increase the level of autophagy, and restore the autophagy inhibition caused by Chloroquine in vitro , whereas silencing of pva-miR-252 resulted in the opposite effect. More importantly, overexpression of pva-miR-252 could enhance the activity of antioxidant enzymes and reduced the production of ROS of shrimp under ammonia nitrogen stress. In conclusion, pva-miR-252 could positively regulate autophagy through PvPI3K and improve the antioxidant enzyme activity of P. vannamei under ammonia nitrogen stress, and our study provides a novel theoretical molecular mechanism for further understanding the shrimp cope with a high ammonia nitrogen environment.

As the hub and carrier to transfer the passengers, the railway station is an important factor that affects the rail passenger transportation because the normal operation of the station without load redundancy is determined by the moderate passenger flow. It means reasonable and accurate prediction of passengers entering and leaving the station can provide the basis and guarantee for the station security, the resources allocation and the personnel deployment. Since the neural network model is good at processing the common regular data changes through training the network and adjusting the weight value based on a large number of training samples, the neural network model is used in processing the short-term irregular data to predict the passenger flow at the railway station which is susceptible to the constantly changing external factors. In this paper, the neural network is used to predict the passenger flow. First, the key factors affecting the change of the passenger flow are selected and analyzed as the input of the neural network. Second, the learning and the rate updating of variable step size are adopted to estimate the number people entering the station during a certain time interval, which is then weighted with the historical data to derive the prediction of the passenger flow during the next time interval. The simulation results show that the experiment results show that the method proposed in this paper can better track and predict the sudden changes in the passenger flow caused by emergencies. Meanwhile, it can be found that in the process of forecasting abnormal passenger flow, the most critical link is to summarize and summarize the characteristics of railway station passenger flow, clarify the type and time distribution of passenger flow at each station, and analyze the factors that cause abnormal changes in passenger flow.

Abstract Background To identify biomarkers for guiding therapy and predicting clinical response of Tripterysium Glycosides Tablets (TGT) treatment is an urgent task due to individual differences in TGT response across rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory system may influence drug response with involvement in diverse biological processes. Herein, we aimed to identify a TGT response‐related ceRNA axis. Methods A TGT response‐related ceRNA axis was screened according to clinical cohort‐based RNA expression profiling, lncRNA‐mRNA coexpression, and ceRNA network analyses. Its clinical relevance was evaluated by computational modeling. Regulatory mechanisms of ceRNA axis were also experimentally investigated. Results The ceRNA regulatory axis combined with lncRNA ENST00000494760, miR‐654‐5p, and C1QC was identified as a candidate biomarker for RA patients' response to TGT. Both ENST00000494760 and C1QC mRNA expression were significantly lower, while miR‐654‐5p expression was dramatically higher in TGT responders than nonresponders. Its clinical relevance was verified by computational modeling based on both independent clinical validation cohort and collagen‐induced arthritis (CIA) mice. Mechanistically, miR‐654‐5p directly bound to the 3′‐untranslated region of both ENST00000494760 and C1QC mRNA to inhibit their expression. Moreover, miR‐654‐5p suppressed C1QC mRNA expression, but ENST00000494760 bound to miR‐654‐5p and relieved its repression on C1QC mRNA, leading to RA aggressive progression and weak TGT response. Conclusions LncRNA ENST00000494760 overexpression may sponge miR‐654‐5p to promote C1QC expression in RA patients. This novel ceRNA axis may serve as a biomarker for screening the responsive RA patients to TGT treatment, which will allow improved personalized healthcare.

A normal disc–condyle relationship is crucial to the health and function of the temporomandibular joint. We herein introduce a novel technique that can precisely and rapidly restore the disc–condyle relationship. An initial bite rim was made, and the patient was instructed to wear this bite rim during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning. A quick MRI scan was performed, and the disc–condyle relationship and direction and vector of the displacement was measured. Adjustments to the mandible position were made on an articulator based on the measurements, after which a second bite rim was made. A second quick preview MRI scan was immediately performed, and the images were evaluated and measured again. Additional adjustments were made as needed, and the preview scan was repeated until an ideal disc–condyle relationship was achieved. Once a good disc–condyle relationship was acquired, the mandible position was recorded as the treatment mandible position, and a splint was fabricated. MRI visualization enabled precise and very fine adjustment of the disc–condyle relationship by articulating. This technique might help to simplify the clinical process and improve treatment effectiveness.

Atmospheric turbulence (AT) tends to impair the performance of free space optical (FSO) communication systems. Detecting AT strength is significant for turbulence effect mitigation, which can appropriately guide the selection of turbulence mitigation techniques and modulation formats. Orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam aberrations received through the turbulence channel are closely related to the turbulence strength. In this paper, we experimentally detect the AT strength using an OAM beam based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). We collect 8 kinds of superposed OAM beam intensity images after 5 levels of turbulence in the laboratory as datasets and test the AT detector performance with respect to the number of pixels, mode number of OAM beams, different AT sets and training set size. The results show that the AT detection accuracy is near 100% for 3 kinds of ATs, and the accuracy remains at approximately 85% for 5 kinds of ATs. In addition, using data augmentation methods or a hybrid dataset can improve the AT detection accuracy. The CNN-based method in this paper can help detect the AT strength in atmospheric channels and provide references for choosing appropriate techniques to mitigate turbulence effects and then enhance the OAM-FSO system performance.

The feasibility of fabricating Mg alloy degradable composites with fly ash cenospheres (FACs) using stir casting has been demonstrated. The effects of FAC addition (mass fraction: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 wt.%) on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior were investigated using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, density tests, compression tests, immersion tests and electrochemical measurements. The result shows that the degradable composites are mainly composed of α-Mg, β-Mg17Al12, Mg2Si and MgO phase, and FAC can refine the grain size. The average measured densities of the FAC/Mg alloy composites are higher than the theoretical values due to the formation of the Mg2Si phase, which are in the range of 1.8843–2.0526 g/cm3. The compressive strength of the degradable composites dramatically enhances with the addition of FAC, and the maximum strength is 375 MPa with the 8-wt.% mass fraction, which can be attributed to the refined grains and the formation of massive Mg2Si phase. Furthermore, the corrosion rate of the degradable composites with 10 wt.% FACs shows the highest value of 5.02 g/h in 3 wt.% potassium chloride solution at 80°C, which is three times higher than the corrosion rate of composites without FAC. With the increase in FAC content, more Mg2Si phases formed; thus, micro-galvanic corrosion works well in the composites.

Accurate monitoring of grassland biomass at high spatial and temporal resolutions is important for the effective utilization of grasslands in ecological and agricultural applications. However, current remote sensing data cannot simultaneously provide accurate monitoring of vegetation changes with fine temporal and spatial resolutions. We used a data-fusion approach, namely the spatial and temporal adaptive reflectance fusion model (STARFM), to generate synthetic normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data from Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Landsat data sets. This provided observations at fine temporal (8-d) and medium spatial (30 m) resolutions. Based on field-sampled aboveground biomass (AGB), synthetic NDVI and support vector machine (SVM) techniques were integrated to develop an AGB estimation model (SVM-AGB) for Xilinhot in Inner Mongolia, China. Compared with model generated from MODIS-NDVI (R2 = 0.73, root-mean-square error (RMSE) = 30.61 g/m2), the SVM-AGB model we developed can not only ensure the accuracy of estimation (R2 = 0.77, RMSE = 17.22 g/m2), but also produce higher spatial (30 m) and temporal resolution (8-d) biomass maps. We then generated the time-series biomass to detect biomass anomalies for grassland regions. We found that the synthetic NDVI-derived estimations contained more details on the distribution and severity of vegetation anomalies compared with MODIS NDVI-derived AGB estimations. This is the first time that we have generated time series of grassland biomass with 30-m and 8-d intervals data through combined use of a data-fusion method and the SVM-AGB model. Our study will be useful for near real-time and accurate (improved resolutions) monitoring of grassland conditions, and the data have implications for arid and semi-arid grasslands management.
