Aeolian sandy soil and loess soil of the Mu Us Sandy Land are used as the research material in this study to investigate the effect of soil compounding on the improvement of aeolian sandy soil and to provide a feasible approach for sand prevention and sand control. In particular, loess soils were compounded at 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% by volume percentage of the compounded soils. The improvement benefits of compounded soils on their textural properties, water-holding capacity, and fertilizer-retention capacity at different blending ratios were evaluated. The results showed that following the compounding of aeolian sandy and loess soils, with the increase of the loess proportion, the texture type of the compounded soil transforms from sandy soil to loamy sandy soil to sandy loam to loamy soil to powdery loam. Moreover, granular gradation was observed, the bulk density gradually decreased, the capillary porosity gradually increased, and the performance of water- and fertilizer-holding properties gradually increased and strengthened. The spatial variability of compounded soil bulk density, capillary porosity, and the water-holding and fertilizer-retention properties was almost entirely controlled by the proportion of loess soil. A theoretical basis is provided in this study for aeolian sandy soil improvement in the Mu Us Sandy Land that can be extended to similar areas, providing a feasible sand management approach.

The electroplating of copper layers on acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) polymer surfaces is a common need in industrial applications. The development of new eco-friendly techniques to promote ABS–copper adhesion is crucial due to the harsh and expensive chemicals used in the existing processes. The initial path involves establishing a better understanding on chemistry-dependent ABS–copper adhesion mechanisms. By formulating the material with more functional groups, the adhesion between ABS and the coated copper layer was characterized through a multiscale approach. At the atomic scale, we performed ab initio density functional theory simulations to obtain the variations in the adsorption energy. At the nano and micro scales, we adopted atomic force microscopy to measure the adhesion forces on the bulk polymer surfaces. At the macro scale, we compared these adhesion results with both 90-degree peeling tests and finite element model analyses. This study presents the first comprehensive approach for bridging information gaps across the scales (from nano to macro) with computational and experimental data, facilitating the design of formulated ABS additives.

Abstract Background This study aimed to explore the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward exercise therapy of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted at the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University between April and October 2023 in patients with MDD. A self-designed questionnaire was used to evaluate the KAP (Cronbach’s α = 0.787). The minimum-maximum scores were 2–23 for knowledge, 11–55 for attitude, and 7–35 for practice. Results A total of 494 valid questionnaires were analyzed. The mean KAP dimension scores were 15.39 ± 3.34/23 (66.91%), 36.54 ± 19.33/55 (66.44%), and 19.33 ± 5.22/35 (55.23%), indicating poor knowledge, negative attitude, and weak practice. Abstract Heat stress is being exacerbated by global warming, jeopardizing human and social sustainability. As a result, reliable and energy-efficient cooling methods are highly sought-after. Here, we report a polyacrylate film fabricated by self-moisture-absorbing hygroscopic hydrogel for efficient hybrid passive cooling. Using one of the lowest-cost industrial materials (e.g., sodium polyacrylate), we demonstrate radiative cooling by reducing solar heating with high solar reflectance (0.93) while maximizing thermal emission with high mid-infrared emittance (0.99). Importantly, the manufacturing process utilizes only atmospheric moisture and requires no additional chemicals or energy consumption, making it a completely green process. Under sunlight illumination of 800 W m−2, the surface temperature of the film was reduced by 5 °C under a partly cloudy sky observed at Buffalo, NY. Combined with its hygroscopic feature, this film can simultaneously introduce evaporative cooling that is independent of access to the clear sky. The hybrid passive cooling approach is projected to decrease global carbon emissions by 118.4 billion kg/year compared to current air-conditioning facilities powered by electricity. Given its low-cost raw materials and excellent molding feature, the film can be manufactured through simple and cost-effective roll-to-roll processes, making it suitable for future building construction and personal thermal management needs.

Abstract Background Phenylketonuria (PKU) is caused by mutations in the phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene. Our study aimed to predict the phenotype using the allelic genotype. Methods A total of 1291 PKU patients with 623 various variants were used as the training dataset for predicting allelic phenotypes. We designed a common machine learning framework to predict allelic genotypes associated with the phenotype. Results We identified 235 different mutations and 623 various allelic genotypes. The features extracted from the structure of mutations and graph properties of the PKU network to predict the phenotype of PKU were named PPML (PKU phenotype predicted by machine learning). The phenotype of PKU was classified into three different categories: classical PKU (cPKU), mild PKU (mPKU) and mild hyperphenylalaninemia (MHP). Three hub nodes (c.728G>A for cPKU, c.721 for mPKU and c.158G>A for HPA) were used as each classification center, and 5 node attributes were extracted from the network graph for machine learning training features. The area under the ROC curve was AUC = 0.832 for cPKU, AUC = 0.678 for mPKU and AUC = 0.874 for MHP. This suggests that PPML is a powerful method to predict allelic phenotypes in PKU and can be used for genetic counseling of PKU families. Conclusions The web version of PPML predicts PKU allele classification supported by applicable real cases and prediction results. Downhole heaters are critical for effectively achieving in situ oil shale cracking. In this study, we simulate the heat transfer performance of a large-scale helical baffle downhole heater under various operational conditions. The findings indicate that at 160 m3/h and 6 kW the outlet temperature can reach 280 °C. Controlling heating power or increasing the injected gas flow effectively mitigates heat accumulation on the heating rod’s surface. The outlet temperature curve exhibits two phases. Simultaneously, a balance in energy exchange between the injected gas and heating power occurs, mitigating high-temperature hotspots. Consequently, the outlet temperature cannot attain the theoretical maximum temperature, referred to as the actual maximum temperature. Employing h/∆p13 as the indicator to evaluate heat transfer performance, optimal performance occurs at 100 m3/h. Heat transfer performance at 200 m3/h is significantly impacted by heating power, with the former being approximately 6% superior to the latter. Additionally, heat transfer performance is most stable below 160 m3/h. The gas heating process is categorized into three stages based on temperature distribution characteristics within the heater: rapid warming, stable warming, and excessive heating. The simulation findings suggest that the large-size heater can inject a higher flow rate of heat-carrying gas into the subsurface, enabling efficient oil shale in situ cracking.

Background Hyperthermia is a widely used adjunct treatment for different cancers including nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The protooncogene c-Myc is up-regulated in NPC and its expression is associated with poor prognosis. Objective We hypothesized that c-Myc constitutes an important hyperthermia treatment target, and we investigated its contribution to hyperthermia responses in NPC. Methods The growth of the human NPC cell lines CNE1 and CNE2 was analyzed using CCK-8 and clonogenicity assays after 43 °C hyperthermia, knockdown or overexpression of c-Myc. Flow cytometry measurements assessed cell cycle parameters and apoptosis, while levels of c-Myc together with key transcriptional targets were determined using qPCR and Western blotting. Parallel experiments were undertaken using NPC xenografts in nude mice and lastly, global transcriptomic changes were determined using ‘RNAseq’. Results Hyperthermia increased the ubiquitination and proteasomal destruction of c-Myc, causing a rapid decline in c-Myc protein levels in NPC cells. Similar to c-Myc knockdown, NPC cells treated with hyperthermia showed growth inhibition associated with the downregulation of c-Myc target genes. Moreover, low levels of c-Myc could be sustainably repressed in NPC cells through repeated hyperthermia treatments. Importantly, the key findings of growth inhibition and decreased c-Myc protein levels were reproduced in NPC tumor xenografts. Bioinformatic analyses showed that downregulation of c-Myc constituted a central node in the hyperthermia response of NPC cells. Conclusion Our study reveals that hyperthermia can readily destabilize c-Myc levels in NPC cells and inhibit tumor growth. This proposes new strategies for implementing hyperthermia to target c-Myc-driven cancers to improve therapeutic efficacy.

A prediction method of electricity consumption is developed in order to address the problems of big change and imbalance in electricity consumption caused by COVID-19. In this method, BP (Back Propagation) neural network and improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm are combined and applied. Firstly, Pearson correlation coefficient approach is utilized to conduct data correlation analysis. Then, the BP neural network prediction model is built, and IPSO algorithm is used to optimize the neural network’s initial weights and thresholds. Considering the medical data, public opinion data, policy data and historical data of electricity consumption during epidemic period, the electricity consumption of each industry in the future is predicted. The findings suggest that the proposed model performs well in terms of prediction. The Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) for each industry’s evaluation index is 1.41%, 1.70 %, and 1.37 %, respectively. Compared with other models, the prediction accuracy is higher. By exploring the predicted results of electricity consumption during epidemic period, it is hoped that a basis prediction method of electricity consumption for power grid companies in the event of a sudden outbreak will be provided.

Electric load forecasting is a challenging research, which is of great significance to the safe and stable operation of power grid in epidemic period. In this paper, Long-Short-Term-Memory (LSTM) model with simplex optimizer is proposed to forecast the electric load for an enterprise during the COVID-19 pandemic. The forecasting process consists of data processing, LSTM network construction and optimization. Firstly, some data processing steps includes information quantifying, electric load data cleaning, correlation-coefficient-based medical data filtering, clustering-based medical data and electric load data filling. Then LSTM-based electric load forecasting model of enterprise is established during the COVID-19 pandemic. On this basis, LSTM network is trained and parameters are optimized via simplex optimizer. Finally, an example of the electric load forecasting of an enterprise during the COVID-19 pandemic is investigated. The forecasting results show that the reduced number of iterations is about 25% and the improved forecasting accuracy is about 5.6%. These results can be used as a reference for resuming production of enterprises and planning of electric grid.

In the power load prediction of industries after production resumption, the single-task prediction is unable to learn the correlation characteristics among industries, making it difficult to further improve the prediction accuracy. A multi-task power load prediction method is proposed in this paper, which is based on multi-task learning mechanism and long and short-term memory network model. The correlation relationship between subtasks is fitted by the parameter sharing layer of multi-task learning, which in turn achieves the effect of improving the prediction accuracy. Firstly, the power consumption correlation between the upstream and downstream industries in the industry chain is analyzed, and multi-task long and short-term memory model is established. Then, according to the structure input of the model, the pre-processed data, such as medical treatment, public opinion, policy, and industry capacity, are input. The sharing layer is used to learn the shared information of upstream and downstream industries of the industry chain, and the validation index is proposed for model accuracy. Finally, compared to MLR, SVR, RNN and single-task LSTM, the multi-task LSTM model respectively improves the weighting accuracy by 2.637%, 2.014%, 1.515% and 1.064%, which verifies the effectiveness of the model.

Abstract Background Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a common, autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism caused by PAH gene variants. After routine genetic analysis methods were applied, approximately 5% of PKU patients were still not diagnosed with a definite genotype. Methods In this study, for the first time, we identified PKU patients with unknown genotypes via single-gene full-length sequencing. Results The detection rate of PKU genotype increased from 94.6 to 99.4%, an increase of approximately 5%. The variants c.1199 + 502A > T and 1065 + 241C > A were found at a high frequency in Chinese PKU patients. Conclusion Our study suggest that single-gene full-length sequencing is a rapid, efficient and cost-effective tool to improve the genotype detection rate of PKU patients. Moreover, we provides additional case data to support pathogenicity of deep intronic variants in PAH.

Abstract Background Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) remains a leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. This study aimed to investigate whether supplementation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) in parenteral nutrition may have beneficial effects on ROP in preterm infants. Methods A total of 89 preterm infants, admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Anhui Provincial Children’s Hospital from September 2017 to August 2020, were recruited in the study. Based on the medical documents, the subjects were categorised into two groups: administration of the fish oil emulsion (n=43) containing soy oil, medium-chain-triglycerides (MCT), olive oil and fish oil (6g/dL, 6g/dL, 5g/dL and 3g/dL respectively), and the soy oil emulsion (n=46) containing 10g/dL of soy oil and MCT each. At 4 weeks of hospitalization, ROP was screened and diagnosed. Fatty acids in erythrocytes were determined using gas chromatography. Results The averaged birth weight and gestational age were 1594±296 g and 31.9±2.3 wk, 1596±263 g and 31.6±2.3 wk respectively for preterm infants in the fish oil group and soy oil group. After 4 to 6 weeks of hospitalization, among all the preterm infants, 52 developed ROP (all stages) indicating an incidence of ROP at 58.43%. Although the incidence of ROP with any stages showed no differences between the two groups, the severe ROP incidence in the group with fish oil emulsions (2.33%) was significantly lower than that in the group with soy oil emulsions (23.91%) (P

With the rapid increase in the number of infections, children with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infection secondary to Influenza A virus (IAV), appear to have a great possibility of causing severe complications and illness. Despite some cases and research findings regarding the death of children with IAV and S. aureus, coinfection included, there were few details about successful treatment of pleural empyema and necrotizing pneumonia caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection following IAV. In this case report, we describe the clinical symptoms and treatment of a teenager with pleural empyema and necrotizing pneumonia related to S. aureus secondary infection who was initially infected by IAV. This case highlights the importance of early recognition and application of thoracoscopy for this potentially fatal pleural empyema caused by MRSA and IAV coinfection. We conclude that this is a significant case that contributes to raising awareness regarding rarely occurring severe respiratory infections by MRSA in a child with normal immune function after IAV. In addition, further studies are needed to explore risk factors for IAV coinfection with S. aureus.

Abstract Background Beta-ketothiolase deficiency (BKTD) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by biallelic mutation of ACAT1 that affects both isoleucine catabolism and ketolysis. There is little information available regarding the incidence, newborn screening (NBS), and mutational spectrum of BKTD in China. Results We collected NBS, biochemical, clinical, and ACAT1 mutation data from 18 provinces or municipalities in China between January 2009 and May 2020, and systematically assessed all available published data from Chinese BKTD patients. A total of 16,088,190 newborns were screened and 14 patients were identified through NBS, with an estimated incidence of 1 per 1 million newborns in China. In total, twenty-nine patients were genetically diagnosed with BKTD, 12 of which were newly identified. Most patients exhibited typical blood acylcarnitine and urinary organic acid profiles. Interestingly, almost all patients (15/16, 94%) showed elevated 3-hydroxybutyrylcarnitine (C4OH) levels. Eighteen patients presented with acute metabolic decompensations and displayed variable clinical symptoms. The acute episodes of nine patients were triggered by infections, diarrhea, or an inflammatory response to vaccination. Approximately two-thirds of patients had favorable outcomes, one showed a developmental delay and three died. Twenty-seven distinct variants were identified in ACAT1, among which five were found to be novel. Conclusion This study presented the largest series of BKTD cohorts in China. Our results indicated that C4OH is a useful marker for the detection of BKTD. The performance of BKTD NBS could be improved by the addition of C4OH to the current panel of 3-hydroxyisovalerylcarnitine and tiglylcarnitine markers in NBS. The mutational spectrum and molecular profiles of ACAT1 in the Chinese population were expanded with five newly identified variants.

Abstract Quantum simulation can be implemented in pure digital or analog ways, each with their pros and cons. By taking advantage of the universality of a digital route and the efficiency of analog simulation, hybrid digital–analog approaches can enrich the possibilities for quantum simulation. We use a hybrid approach to experimentally perform a quantum simulation of phase-controlled dynamics resulting from a closed-contour interaction (CCI) within certain multi-level systems in superconducting quantum circuits. Due to symmetry constraints, such systems cannot host an inherent CCI. Nevertheless, by assembling analog modules corresponding to their natural evolutions and specially designed digital modules constructed from standard quantum logic gates, we can bypass such constraints and realize an effective CCI in these systems. Based on this realization, we demonstrate a variety of related and interesting phenomena, including phase-controlled chiral dynamics, separation of chiral enantiomers, and a mechanism to generate entangled states based on CCI.

Abstract Background Due to the lack of research on the pathological mechanism of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA), there are few effective treatment measures in the clinic. In recent years, microRNAs (miRs) have been demonstrated to play an important role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA) by regulating a variety of target genes, and the latest evidence shows that miR-21-5p is specifically overexpressed in OA. The purpose of this project was to clarify whether miR-21-5p can regulate the TMJOA process by targeting Spry1. Methods TMJOA was induced by a unilateral anterior crossbite (UAC) model, and the effect of miR-21-5p knockout on TMJOA was evaluated by toluidine blue (TB), immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, Western blotting (WB) and RT-qPCR. Primary mouse condylar chondrocytes (MCCs) were isolated, cultured and transfected with a series of mimics, inhibitors, siRNA-Spry1 or cDNA Spry1. WB, RT-qPCR, IHC and TB were used to detect the effect of miR-21-5p and its target gene Spry1 on the expression of MMP-13, VEGF and p-ERK1/2 in TMJOA. The effect of miR-21-5p on angiogenesis was evaluated by chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay and WB. Results In the UAC model, the cartilage thickness and extracellular matrix of miR-21-5p knockout mice were less damaged, and miR-21-5p and UAC model were shown to affect the expression of Spry1, IL-1β, MMP-13, and VEGF. Luciferase experiments confirmed that Spry1 was the direct target of miR-21-5p. The expression levels of Spry1, MMP-13, VEGF and p-ERK1/2 in MCCs transfected with miR-21-5p mimic were higher than those in the inhibitor group. Under the simulated inflammatory environment of IL-1β, the expression levels of MMP-13, VEGF and p-ERK1/2 were positively correlated with miR-21-5p, while Spry1 was negatively correlated with miR-21-5p. Inhibition of miR-21-5p expression and overexpression of Spry1 enhanced the inhibition of MMP-13, VEGF and p-ERK1/2 expression. MiR-21-5p had a significant role in promoting angiogenesis in the chick embryo CAM assay, and this role was clearly mediated by the ERK-MAPK signalling pathway. Conclusion This study verified that miR-21-5p can promote the process of TMJOA by targeting Spry1, which provides a new direction for future research on the treatment of this disease.

The adventitious roots of desert shrubs respond to a nabkhas soil environment by adjusting their configuration characteristics, but the mechanism of this response and the main influencing factors are still unclear. To illustrate this response pattern, Nitraria tangutorum Bobrov, Sovetsk. in West Ordos National Nature Reserve was studied, and the shrub was divided into three growth stages: the rudimental stage, developing stage, and stabilizing stage. A combination of total root excavation and root tracing was used to investigate their adventitious root morphology. The results show the following: (1) As the shrub grows, the ability to accumulate sand into nabkhas increases. (2) The soil nutrient accumulation capacity increased with shrub growth. The “fertilizer island effect” was formed in the nutrient developing stage and stabilizing stage of nabkhas soil, but the rudimental stage was not formed. (3) The adventitious root architecture of N. tangutorum at different growth stages was all herringbone with a simple branch structure. With the growth in N. tangutorum, the root diameter of each level gradually increased, the branches of the shrub grew gradually complicated, and the range of resource utilization gradually expanded. (4) Redundancy analysis (RDA) results show that soil organic carbon (SOC) was the main factor affecting the adventitious root architecture. The results of this study reveal the adjustments the adventitious root architecture of N. tangutorum make in order to adapt to the stress environment and provide data support for the protection of natural vegetation in West Ordos.

Lens gap junctions (GJs) formed by Cx46 and Cx50 are important to keep lens transparency. Functional studies on Cx46 and Cx50 GJs showed that the Vj-gating, single channel conductance (γj), gating polarity, and/or channel open stability could be modified by the charged residues in the amino terminal (NT) domain. The role of hydrophobic residues in the NT on GJ properties is not clear. Crystal and cryo-EM GJ structures have been resolved, but the NT domain structure has either not been resolved or has showed very different orientations depending on the component connexins and possibly other experimental conditions, making it difficult to understand the structural basis of the NT in Vj-gating and γj. Here, we generated missense variants in Cx46 and Cx50 NT domains and studied their properties by recombinant expression and dual whole-cell patch clamp experiments on connexin-deficient N2A cells. The NT variants (Cx46 L10I, N13E, A14V, Q15N, and Cx50 I10L, E13N, V14A, N15Q) were all able to form functional GJs with similar coupling%, except Cx46 N13E, which showed a significantly reduced coupling%. The GJs of Cx46 N13E, A14V and Cx50 E13N, N15Q showed a reduced coupling conductance. Vj-gating of all the variant GJs were similar to the corresponding wild-type GJs except Cx46 L10I. The γj of Cx46 N13E, A14V, Cx50 E13N, and N15Q GJs was reduced to 51%, 82%, 87%, and 74%, respectively, as compared to their wild-type γjs. Structural models of Cx46 L10I and A14V predicted steric clashes between these residues and the TM2 residues, which might be partially responsible for our observed changes in GJ properties. To verify the importance of hydrophobic interactions, we generated a variant, Cx50 S89T, which also shows a steric clash and failed to form a functional GJ. Our experimental results and structure models indicate that hydrophobic interactions between the NT and TM2 domain are important for their Vj-gating, γj, and channel open stability in these and possibly other GJs.

Backup datacenters provide massive data storage and access services, and their failure may result in huge economic losses. So their location selection requires low damage risk and high evacuation capability simultaneously. But previous works on backup datacenter placement have not jointly considered these two factors from the viewpoint of traffic engineering and might result in the unnecessary loss in case of disaster. In this paper, with the global view of network resources in the software defined network scenarios, we propose a new disaster-and-evacuation-aware backup datacenter placement strategy. To reduce backup loss risk and apply rapid post-disaster evacuation, we jointly consider expected disaster loss and evacuation latency and formulate a new disaster-and-evacuation-aware facility location problem (NP-hard) which is multi-objective. To obtain the solution according to the disaster situation assessment, we propose a disaster-and-evacuation-aware multi-objective optimization algorithm. We optimize multiple objectives owning different coefficients in different disaster situations. We introduce location-output-capability, backup-evacuation-latency, Pareto-recommendation-degree, and node-damage-loss to guide solution searching. We prune the external set according to fitness-deviation-ratio to improve convergence speed and computation efficiency of the algorithm. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that our algorithm is efficient and promising with less expected disaster loss and higher evacuation capability simultaneously.

PurposeThis study was designed to evaluate the predictive performance of contrast-enhanced CT-based radiomic features for the personalized, differential diagnosis of esophagogastric junction (EGJ) adenocarcinoma at stages T3 and T4a.MethodsTwo hundred patients with T3 (n = 44) and T4a (n = 156) EGJ adenocarcinoma lesions were enrolled in this study. Traditional computed tomography (CT) features were obtained from contrast-enhanced CT images, and the traditional model was constructed using a multivariate logistic regression analysis. A radiomic model was established based on radiomic features from venous CT images, and the radiomic score (Radscore) of each patient was calculated. A combined nomogram diagnostic model was constructed based on Radscores and traditional features. The diagnostic performances of these three models (traditional model, radiomic model, and nomogram) were assessed with receiver operating characteristics curves. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and areas under the curve (AUC) of models were calculated, and the performances of the models were evaluated and compared. Finally, the clinical effectiveness of the three models was evaluated by conducting a decision curve analysis (DCA).ResultsAn eleven-feature combined radiomic signature and two traditional CT features were constructed as the radiomic and traditional feature models, respectively. The Radscore was significantly different between patients with stage T3 and T4a EGJ adenocarcinoma. The combined nomogram performed the best and has potential clinical usefulness.ConclusionsThe developed combined nomogram might be useful in differentiating T3 and T4a stages of EGJ adenocarcinoma and may facilitate the decision-making process for the treatment of T3 and T4a EGJ adenocarcinoma.

For disaster backup in cloud data center network, existing researches have not jointly considered sufficient data redundancy and limited receiving capacity, likely to result in underutilization of network transmission capability, unfair distribution of backup load, or even lacks of disaster resistance. In this paper, we propose a new strategy to realize bandwidth-efficient and load-fair disaster backup under redundancy and capacity constraints using customized bandwidth allocation and flexible flow scheduling in software-defined networking. Based on many-to-many relationship in disaster backup, we formulate a new redundancy-guaranteed and receiving-constrained capacitated multi-commodity flow problem. By constructing flow-ratio-constrained backup transmission model, we specify flow allocation ratio among backup data centers with limited receiving capacity. Then we present a basic ratio-aware ant colony optimization algorithm satisfying backup flow constraint and rate requirement constraint. Furthermore, to obtain higher performance in redundancy guarantee and enhance bandwidth allocation fairness among massive backup transfers, we propose a fair-rotating and ratio-aware ant colony optimization (FRRA-ACO) algorithm. Especially, we use rotary routing search for multiple concurrent flows based on backup requirement cloning to approximate the upper bound of bandwidth allocation, adjust ratio of bandwidth allocation for multiple backup transfers with different requirements, and further improve flow rate according to the maximum link utilization on links if possible. Experiments demonstrate that FRRA-ACO outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms with less backup completion time, fairer backup load distribution, and higher network utilization.

It is practical to carry out sponge cities to manage rain and floods in collapsible loess areas where water resources and water disasters are prominent. The infiltration laws of the partial anti-seepage bioretention in collapsible loess fields are helpful to ensure the effectiveness and safety of sponge city, which were learned from the field test and numerical model. The seepage field and displacement field of loess sites with different collapsibility grades were compared during rainwater infiltration of the bioretention with the numerical model; the suitability and optimization suggestions for foundation treatment of this structure in various sites were proposed. It is found that the infiltration characteristics can be divided into three stages, and the infiltration range of bioretention increases with increasing infiltration time under the same site type, and the higher the collapsibility level of the site is, the more significant the rise in infiltration range. The settlement of adjacent roads in class II and III collapsible fields is far greater than that in class I and is greater than the settlement standard. The facilities’ bottom part foundation can be replaced to ensure the functionality of the facilities and the safety of the surrounding roads in the actual project.

Abstract Background Phenylketonuria (PKU), which primarily results from a deficiency of phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), is one of the most common inherited inborn errors of metabolism that impairs postnatal cognitive development. The incidence of various PAH variations differs by race and ethnicity. The aim of the present study was to characterize the PAH gene variants of a Han population from Northern China. Methods In total, 655 PKU patients and their families were recruited for this study; each proband was diagnosed both clinically and biochemically with phenylketonuria. Subjects were sequentially screened for single-base variants and exon deletions or duplications within PAH via direct Sanger sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA). Results A spectrum of 174 distinct PAH variants was identified: 152 previously documented variants and 22 novel variants. While single-base variants were distributed throughout the 13 exons, they were particularly concentrated in exons 7 (33.3%), 11 (14.2%), 6 (13.2%), 12 (11.0%), 3 (10.4%), and 5 (4.4%). The predominant variant was p.Arg243Gln (17.7%), followed by Ex6-96A > G (8.3%), p.Val399 = (6.4%), p.Arg53His (4.7%), p.Tyr356* (4.7%), p.Arg241Cys (4.6%), p.Arg413Pro (4.6%), p.Arg111* (4.4%), and c.442-1G > A (3.4%). Notably, two patients were also identified as carrying de novo variants. Conclusion The composition of PAH gene variants in this Han population from Northern China was distinct from those of other ethnic groups. As such, the construction of a PAH gene variant database for Northern China is necessary to lay a foundation for genetic-based diagnoses, prenatal diagnoses, and population screening.

Nitrogen and phosphorus excessive enrichment are major causes of water eutrophication, and variations in nutrients enrichment are strongly influenced by human activities. In this study, annual average water quality from 2001 to 2018 was used to explore the spatiotemporal variations in total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) and their relationships with human activities. Spatially, TN and TP concentrations exhibited significant variations across the five sub-lake zones, and their values were relatively higher in the NW lake zone than the other sub-lake zones. Temporally, TN concentration exhibited weak correlations with years in the NW (R2 = 0.37, p < 0.05) and NE (R2 = 0.43, p < 0.05) lake zones and significant and positive correlations with years in the SW (R2 = 0.62, p < 0.05), SE (R2 = 0.79, p < 0.05), and C (R2 = 0.84, p < 0.05) lake zones. TP concentration exhibited decreasing trends in all lake zones except the NW lake zone (R2 = 0.37, p < 0.05), its value shows a relatively low level and is the restrictive factor to algal growth. The trophic state of the Lake Qiandaohu was determined as mesotrophic. Gross domestic product (GDP) and construction land exhibited strong correlations with TN and TP. Moreover, agriculture nonpoint source pollution was the largest contributor to the excessive enrichment of TN and TP, resulting in water eutrophication. In addition, aquaculture was another major source of nutrients starting in 1999. Although the managers of Lake Qiandaohu implemented a protection-oriented fishery policy, good results cannot be easily achieved with a unilateral policy concerning environmental protection. Thus, comprehensive policies may be more effective than unilateral policies.
