Right C-restriction semigroups are the common generalizations of right C-rpp semigroups and right C-lpp semigroups. The structure of such a semigroup is established in terms of the [Formula: see text]-product of a right regular band and a C-restriction semigroup. As its applications, we give the structures of right C-rpp semigroups and right C-lpp semigroups. Also, we give the dual wreath product structure of right C-restriction semigroups. These results extend the related results in (Semigroup Forum 68 (2004) 280–292) and (Algebra Colloquium 14 (2007) 285–294).

All the (2, 1)-congruences on a left restriction semigroup become a complete sublattice of its lattice of congruences. The aim of this article is to study certain fundamental properties of this complete sublattice. We introduce k k -, K K -, t t -, and T T -operators on this sublattice and obtain some properties. As applications, the remarkable (2, 1)-congruences are characterized. These results extend the corresponding results on inverse semigroups and ample semigroups.

Generalized Munn rings exist extensively in the theory of rings. The aim of this note is to answer when a generalized Munn ring is primitive (semiprimitive, semiprime and prime, respectively). Sufficient and necessary conditions are obtained for a generalized Munn ring with a regular sandwich matrix to be primitive (semiprimitive, semiprime and prime, respectively). Also, we obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for a Munn ring over principal ideal domains to be prime (semiprime, respectively). Our results can be regarded as the generalizations of the famous result in the theory of rings that for a ringRR,RRis primitive (semiprimitive and semiprime, respectively) if and only if so isMn(R){M}_{n}\left(R). As applications of our results, we consider the primeness and the primitivity of generalized matrix rings and generalized path algebras. In particular, it is proved that a path algebra is a semiprime if and only if it is semiprimitive.

Glrac semigroups are common generalizations of left GC-lpp semigroups and left inverse semigroups. And, such a semigroup is a left restriction semigroup if and only if the projection set is a semilattice. So, glrac semigroup is also a generalization of left restriction semigroup. Permissible subsets of a glrac semigroup are introduced in this paper. In terms of permissible subsets, we define (uniquely) factorizable glrac semigroups and (uniquely) almost factorizable glrac semigroups. Many characterizations of (uniquely) factorizable glrac semigroups and (uniquely) almost factorizable glrac semigroups are obtained. As their applications, we establish the structures of uniquely factorizable left GC-lpp semigroups (left inverse semigroups, inverse semigroups, ample semigroups, left restriction semigroup, restriction semigroups) and uniquely almost factorizable left GC-lpp semigroups (left inverse semigroups, inverse semigroups, ample semigroups, left restriction semigroup, restriction semigroups). Our results enrich and extend the related results of almost factorizable restriction semigroups.

The purpose of this study is to identify medications with potentially beneficial effects on decreasing mortality in patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) while in the intensive care unit (ICU). We used logistic regression to investigate associations between medications received and ICU mortality in patients with AKI in the MIMIC III database. Drugs associated with reduced mortality were then validated using the eICU database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used for matching the patients’ baseline severity of illness followed by a chi-square test to calculate the significance of drug use and mortality. Finally, we examined gene expression signatures to explore the drug’s molecular mechanism on AKI. While several drugs demonstrated potential beneficial effects on reducing mortality, most were used for potentially fatal illnesses (e.g. antibiotics, cardiac medications). One exception was found, ondansetron, a drug without previously identified life-saving effects, has correlation with lower mortality among AKI patients. This association was confirmed in a subsequent analysis using the eICU database. Based on the comparison of gene expression signatures, the presumed therapeutic effect of ondansetron may be elicited through the NF-KB pathway and JAK-STAT pathway. Our findings provide real-world evidence to support clinical trials of ondansetron for treatment of AKI.

Abundant semigroups originate from p.p. rings and are generalizations of regular semigroups. The main aim of this paper is to study the primeness and the primitivity of abundant semigroup algebras. We introduce and studyD∗{{\mathcal{D}}}^{\ast }-graphs and Fountain matrices of a semigroup. Based onD∗{{\mathcal{D}}}^{\ast }-graphs and Fountain matrices, we determine when a contracted semigroup algebra of a primitive abundant semigroup is prime (respectively, semiprime, semiprimitive, or primitive). It is well known that for any algebraA{\mathcal{A}}with unity,A{\mathcal{A}}is primitive (prime) if and only if so isMn(A){M}_{n}\left({\mathcal{A}}). Our results can be viewed as some kind of generalizations of such a known result. In addition, it is proved that any contracted semigroup algebra of a locally ample semigroup whose set of idempotents is locally finite (respectively, locally pseudofinite and satisfying the regularity condition) is isomorphic to some contracted semigroup algebra of primitive abundant semigroups. Moreover, we obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for these classes of contracted semigroup algebras to be prime (respectively, semiprime, semiprimitive, or primitive). Finally, the structure of simple contracted semigroup algebras of idempotent-connected abundant semigroups is established. Our results enrich and extend the related results on regular semigroup algebras.

It is proved that any Azumaya semigroup algebra of an abundant semigroup over a field is a subdirect product of matrix algebras over Azumaya semigroup algebras of cancellative monoids. In particular, it is proved that for an abundant semigroup S with finitely many idempotents and a field K, $$K_0[S]$$ is Azumaya if and only if $$K_0[S]$$ is isomorphic to the direct sum of finite matrix algebras of Azumaya algebras of cancellative submonoids. This gives an affirmative answer to an open problem of Okninski in his monograph (Semigroup Algebra, Marcel Dekker, New York, 1991) for the case that the semigroup is a finite abundant semigroup.

Summary Pre‐harvest sprouting (PHS), the germination of grain before harvest, is a serious problem resulting in wheat yield and quality losses.Here, we mapped the PHS resistance gene PHS‐3D from synthetic hexaploid wheat to a 2.4 Mb presence–absence variation (PAV) region and found that its resistance effect was attributed to the pleiotropic Myb10‐D by integrated omics and functional analyses.Three haplotypes were detected in this PAV region among 262 worldwide wheat lines and 16 Aegilops tauschii, and the germination percentages of wheat lines containing Myb10‐D was approximately 40% lower than that of the other lines. Transcriptome and metabolome profiling indicated that Myb10‐D affected the transcription of genes in both the flavonoid and abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis pathways, which resulted in increases in flavonoids and ABA in transgenic wheat lines. Myb10‐D activates 9‐cis‐epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED) by biding the secondary wall MYB‐responsive element (SMRE) to promote ABA biosynthesis in early wheat seed development stages.We revealed that the newly discovered function of Myb10‐D confers PHS resistance by enhancing ABA biosynthesis to delay germination in wheat. The PAV harboring Myb10‐D associated with grain color and PHS will be useful for understanding and selecting white grained PHS resistant wheat cultivars.

It is proved that for an IC abundant semigroup (a primitive abundant semigroup; a primitively semisimple semigroup) S and a field K, if K 0[S] is right (left) self-injective, then S is a finite regular semigroup. This extends and enriches the related results of Okniński on self-injective algebras of regular semigroups, and affirmatively answers Okniński’s problem: does that a semigroup algebra K[S] is a right (respectively, left) self-injective imply that S is finite? (Semigroup Algebras, Marcel Dekker, 1990), for IC abundant semigroups (primitively semisimple semigroups; primitive abundant semigroups). Moreover, we determine the structure of K 0[S] being right (left) self-injective when K 0[S] has a unity. As their applications, we determine some sufficient and necessary conditions for the algebra of an IC abundant semigroup (a primitively semisimple semigroup; a primitive abundant semigroup) over a field to be semisimple.

Microtubule (MT) motors in the Kinesin-14 subfamily proliferated in photosynthetic organisms and they often incorporated sequences bearing novel structural features. To gain insights into the functions of diversified Kinesin-14 motors from an evolutionary perspective, we performed phylogenetic analyses across different eukaryotic kingdoms. Compared to fungi that have a single class of Kinesin-14, the early divergent protist Giardia possesses two classes and the motile green alga Chlamydomonas produces four classes (Kinesin-14A to Kinesin-14D). The fifth class Kinesin-14E first appeared among immotile green algae and the sixth Kinesin-14F emerged in mosses, concomitantly with the display of 3D growth. The conservation of Kinesin-14D from green algae prompted us to investigate its function in Arabidopsis in which three such motors functioned in cell cycle-dependent manners. They localized on selective spindle MTs and/or sometimes kinetochore-like structures, and later all became conspicuous on MT bundles in the spindle midzone following sister chromatid segregation. Genetic dissection of Kinesin-14D1 showed that its loss led to hypersensitivity to low doses of the MT-depolymerizing herbicide oryzalin. Kinesin-14D1 association with the midzone MTs in both prophase and mitotic spindles. The oryzalin treatment left behind discrete kinetochore fibers attached to randomly positioned chromosomes in the mitotic kinesin-14d1 cells but prevented the pole convergence of bipolar mitotic spindles. This function of Kinesin-14D1 in the spindle midzone is likely dependent on an MT-binding domain at the C-terminus to the catalytic motor domain. Therefore, our results revealed a novel Kinesin-14D-dependent mechanism that regulates the formation of bipolar spindle apparatus with converged acentrosomal poles.

In the process of cyclic loading, strain development not only presents the strain softening phenomenon, but also a strain hardening phenomenon, depending on the different values of static deflection stress. The strain hardening and strain softening characteristics of soft clay are studied by cyclic triaxial tests. The test results show that when the static deflection stress is zero, the value of cyclic cumulative strain is small, and the strain development presents the softening phenomenon. When the static deflection stress is greater than zero, the accumulation strain increases with increasing cyclic deflection stress, and the strain development present strain hardening phenomenon. Therefore, a strain softening index and strain hardening index were proposed to describe the cyclic characteristics of soil. Moreover, an equivalent cyclic creep model was established by considering the strain hardening index to describe cyclic characteristics of suction pile. The results obtained using the proposed method are in reasonably good agreement with the measured results. This can provide a new method for analyzing the cyclic characteristics of soil and the suction pile.

Summary Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P2] is a low abundant membrane lipids essential for plasma membrane function. In plants, mutations in PI4P 5-kinases (PIP5K) suggest that PI(4,5)P2 production is involved in development, immunity and reproduction. However, phospholipid synthesis is highly intricate. It is thus likely that steady-state depletion of PI(4,5)P2 triggers confounding indirect effects. Furthermore, inducible tools available in plants, allow to increase but not decrease PI(4,5)P2, and no PIP5K inhibitors are available. Here, we introduce iDePP (Inducible Depletion of PI(4,5)P2 in Plants), a system for the inducible and tunable depletion of PI(4,5)P2 in plants in less than three hours. Using this strategy, we confirm that PI(4,5)P2 is critical for various aspects of plant development, including root growth, root hair elongation and organ initiation. We show that PI(4,5)P2 is required to recruit various endocytic proteins, including AP2, to the plasma membrane, and thus to regulate clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Finally, we uncover that inducible PI(4,5)P2 perturbation impacts the dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton as well as microtubule anisotropy. Together, we propose that iDePP is a simple and efficient genetic tool to test the importance of PI(4,5)P2 in given cellular or developmental responses, but also to evaluate the importance of this lipid in protein localization.

Plant transcription factors (TFs), such as basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) and AT-rich zinc-binding proteins (PLATZ), play critical roles in regulating the expression of developmental genes in cereals. We identified the bHLH protein TaPGS1 (T. aestivum Positive Regulator of Grain Size 1) specifically expressed in the seeds at 5-20 days post-anthesis in wheat. TaPGS1 was ectopically overexpressed (OE) in wheat and rice, leading to increased grain weight (up to 13.81% in wheat and 18.55% in rice lines) and grain size. Carbohydrate and total protein levels also increased. Scanning electron microscopy results indicated that the starch granules in the endosperm of TaPGS1 OE wheat and rice lines were smaller and tightly embedded in a proteinaceous matrix. Furthermore, TaPGS1 was bound directly to the E-box motif at the promoter of the PLATZ TF genes TaFl3 and OsFl3 and positively regulated their expression in wheat and rice. In rice, the OsFl3 CRISPR/Cas9 knockout lines showed reduced average thousand-grain weight, grain width, and grain length in rice. Our results reveal that TaPGS1 functions as a valuable trait-associated gene for improving cereal grain yield.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent mental disorder marked by psychological and behavioral changes. Currently, there is no consensus of preferred antipsychotics to be used for the treatment of PTSD. We aim to discover whether certain antipsychotics have decreased suicide risk in the PTSD population, as these patients may be at higher risk. A total of 38,807 patients were identified with a diagnosis of PTSD through the ICD9 or ICD10 codes from January 2004 to October 2019. An emulation of randomized clinical trials was conducted to compare the outcomes of suicide-related events (SREs) among PTSD patients who ever used one of eight individual antipsychotics after the diagnosis of PTSD. Exclusion criteria included patients with a history of SREs and a previous history of antipsychotic use within one year before enrollment. Eligible individuals were assigned to a treatment group according to the antipsychotic initiated and followed until stopping current treatment, switching to another same class of drugs, death, or loss to follow up. The primary outcome was to identify the frequency of SREs associated with each antipsychotic. SREs were defined as ideation, attempts, and death by suicide. Pooled logistic regression methods with the Firth option were conducted to compare two drugs for their outcomes using SAS version 9.4 (SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA). The results were adjusted for baseline characteristics and post-baseline, time-varying confounders. A total of 5294 patients were eligible for enrollment with an average follow up of 7.86 months. A total of 157 SREs were recorded throughout this study. Lurasidone showed a statistically significant decrease in SREs when compared head to head to almost all the other antipsychotics: aripiprazole, haloperidol, olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone, and ziprasidone (p &lt, 0.0001 and false discovery rate-adjusted p value &lt, 0.0004). In addition, olanzapine was associated with higher SREs than quetiapine and risperidone, and ziprasidone was associated with higher SREs than risperidone. The results of this study suggest that certain antipsychotics may put individuals within the PTSD population at an increased risk of SREs, and that careful consideration may need to be taken when prescribed.

A time-marching aerodynamic model for dual-rotor wind turbines (DRWT) is presented with the lifting surface method and free wake model. The performance of a reference DRWT by two axial connected NREL 5MW wind turbines is calculated to verify the algorithm. The output converges with remarkable oscillation. Free wakes swell under the coupling effect. The accumulated power of DRWT outranges single-rotor wind turbine (SRWT) by a limited extent under certain operating conditions. The front rotor (FR) produces the major portion of the power, especially for low inflow velocity. The unsteadiness of performance and spanwise load is further investigated, and the result shows that the power output of the rear rotor (RR) undergoes greater fluctuation than FR. The rotor-rotor induction strengthens both the rotors’ performance before they align and weakens it when they rotate away. The additional disturbance caused by FR’s tip vortices acts negatively on RR’s torque by upwashing the blade tip.
