Abstract Rapid urbanization and industrialization with their negative repercussions draw attention to the need for urban sustainability. This research built on the urban systems understanding linked with resource utilization, environmental effects, people-environment interactions, and adaptive management by integrating quantitative modelling of urban metabolism with a qualitative investigation into human responses. A hybrid methodology was applied in a typical industrial city of Jinchang, China, which exemplified a model of how complex urban dynamics link to and inform sustainability transitions. The study found that Jinchang City had taken on an unsustainable trajectory underpinned by continuous growth of material consumption, whereas a potential for sustainability transitions was also observed in decoupled negative material outputs, improved material efficiency, and environment regeneration collectively. The challenges in industrial cities have been framed in terms of development model lock-in, conceptual and institutional constraints, innovation and human capital deficiencies, and governance failure. The research proposed a government-led transformation system that integrates multi-level and multi-perspective transformations and management employing discipline insights to facilitate urban sustainability transitions. This involves governance, economic and technological innovations, social transformations, and implementations, in which urban governance and public engagement are essential elements for adapting to undesirable difficulties and exploring locally appropriate strategies. This research provided a theoretical and empirical basis along with scientific and policy implications, which contributed to the developing interdisciplinary knowledge on the understanding of complex urban systems and provided insights into real-world sustainability solutions.

Abstract The design of enzyme-response hydrogels has attracted increasing interest in cell therapy, biomedical research, and tissue engineering. Their rational design usually depends on the enzyme-response mechanism and have focused on behavior improvement, drug delivery, and state transition of hydrogels. However, no enzyme-response mechanism has yet been systematically investigated. Here, we construct a tunable platform of tannic acid-embedded chitosan/γ-polyglutamic acid hydrogel to study the enzyme-response mechanism. We track the roles of gallic acid hydrolyzed from tannic acid in altering the structure and properties of the hydrogel to get insights into the mechanism. The gallic acid inside the hydrogel enhances hydrogel crosslinking, increasing the mechanical properties and pH sensitivity but reducing thickness, porosity, and swelling behavior. The gallic acid outside the hydrogel increases the positive potential and superficial hydrophobicity of the hydrogel. These findings will aid the rational design of other enzyme-response hydrogels in more extensive self-adaptive fields.

ObjectivePost-stroke dysphagia (PSD) is a common complication of stroke. Acupuncture as one of the traditional therapies in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), can change the excitability of cerebral cortical nerve cells, and promote the recovery of neurological and swallowing functions. Several clinical primary studies (including RCTs, cohort studies, etc.) and systematic reviews have demonstrated its efficacy and safety in patients with PSD. The positive effects of acupuncture on PSD are also mentioned in international clinical and treatment guidelines, while there is no synthesis of this evidence. This scoping review aims to summarize the evidence from clinical primary studies, reviews, systematic reviews, and guidelines on acupuncture for the treatment of PSD and explore the breadth of this evidence, provide an overview of the range and characteristics of existing evidence, research gaps, and future research priorities in treating PSD with acupuncture.MethodPubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, SinoMed, Wan Fang Data, and VIP databases were searched from inception until June 12, 2024. The relevant data were presented through bubble diagrams, line graphs, and structured tables along with descriptive statistics and analysis. This scoping review was conducted based on the PRISMA-ScR Checklist.ResultsA total of 1,130 studies were included. Most of the studies were conducted in China, with the number increasing over time. The studies included 254 reviews, 815 clinical studies (678 RCTs,107 nRCTs, 12 case reports, 14 cohort studies, and four case series), 51 systematic reviews, and 10 guidelines. Acupuncture interventions included manual acupuncture (MA), electroacupuncture (EA), and MA/EA combined with acupuncture-related methods (such as scalp acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, warm acupuncture, etc.). The most frequently used acupoint was RN23. Acupuncture is often applied in combination with other treatments, such as herbal medicine, Western medicine, rehabilitation training, swallowing training, or catheter balloon dilatation. Effective rates and WTS were the most frequently used outcomes. Most studies reported significant efficacy and only a few studies explicitly reported adverse events. Acupuncture received positive recommendations in nine guidelines for the treatment of PSD.ConclusionAs a convenient and safe traditional Chinese medicine therapy with its characteristics, acupuncture can improve different stages and types of dysphagia without causing serious adverse reactions. In the future, more standardized international cooperative clinical research is needed to identify the influence of different acupuncture intervention times on the curative effect and dose-effect relationship of acupuncture; standardize the clinical acupoint selection scheme of acupuncture; develop a COS with TCM characteristics to improve the quality of outcome reporting, This will enable different research data to be summarized and compared, reduce resource waste, and provide more high-quality evidence.

BackgroundAcupuncture, as an alternative and complementary therapy recommended by the World Health Organization for stroke treatment, holds potential in ameliorating neurofunctional deficits induced by ischemic stroke (IS). Understanding the immediate and long-term effects of acupuncture and their interrelation would contribute to a better comprehension of the mechanisms underlying acupuncture efficacy.MethodsActivation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analysis was used to analyze the brain activation patterns reported in 21 relevant functional neuroimaging studies. Among these studies, 12 focused on the immediate brain activation and 9 on the long-term activation. Single dataset analysis were employed to identify both immediate and long-term brain activation of acupuncture treatment in IS patients, while contrast and conjunction analysis were utilized to explore distinctions and connections between the two.ResultsAccording to the ALE analysis, immediately after acupuncture treatment, IS patients exhibited an enhanced cluster centered around the right precuneus (PCUN) and a reduced cluster centered on the left middle frontal gyrus (MFG). After long-term acupuncture treatment, IS patients showed an enhanced cluster in the left PCUN, along with two reduced clusters in the right insula (INS) and hippocampus (HIP), respectively. Additionally, in comparison to long-term acupuncture treatment, the right angular gyrus (ANG) demonstrated higher ALE scores immediately after acupuncture, whereas long-term acupuncture resulted in higher scores in the left superior parietal gyrus (SPG). The intersecting cluster activated by both of them was located in the left cuneus (CUN).ConclusionThe findings provide initial insights into both the immediate and long-term brain activation patterns of acupuncture treatment for IS, as well as the intricate interplay between them. Abstract The enhancement of weather forecasting capabilities plays a pivotal role in agricultural production, storage, and transportation. This paper conducts a comprehensive survey among agricultural producers across 31 provinces and over 1000 counties in China using household questionnaires. The collected data is analyzed utilizing a multiple linear regression model that incorporates clustering and robust standard errors to ensure accurate results. The findings reveal a positive correlation between the frequency at which agricultural production entities pay attention to meteorological forecast information and the subsequent incremental increase in their income. Moreover, it is observed that both the number of access channels to meteorological information and their frequency significantly impact the rise in agricultural income attributed to such forecasts. Specifically, each additional type of access channel leads to an average income increase of 11.11 yuan. Furthermore, through regression analysis, this study demonstrates statistically significant effects of meteorological forecasts on cost savings as well as income growth within the realm of agricultural production.

High-entropy diboride has been arousing considerable interest in recent years. However, the low toughness and damage tolerance limit its applications as ultra-high-temperature structural materials. Here we report that a unique SiB6 additive has been first incorporated as boron and silicon sources to fabricate a high-entropy boride (Ti0.2Zr0.2Hf0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2)B2–SiC composite though one-step boro/carbothermal reduction reactive sintering. A synergetic effect of high-entropy sluggish diffusion and SiC secondary phase retarded the grain growth of the (Ti0.2Zr0.2Hf0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2)B2–51SiC composites. The small grain size was beneficial to shorten the diffusion path for mass transport, thereby enhancing the relative density to ~99.3%. These results in an increase of fracture toughness from ~5.2 in HEBS-1900 to ~7.7 MPa·m1/2 in HEBS-2000, which corresponded to a large improvement of 48%. The improvement was attributed to a mixed mode of intergranular and transgranular cracking for offering effective pinning in crack propagation, resulting from balanced grain boundary strength collectively affected by improved densification, solid solution strengthening, and incorporation of SiC secondary phase.

Thermal barrier coatings play crucial roles in protecting the hot end components of aero-engines against high-temperature erosion. They must suffer extremely harsh environments including high temperatures, heavy loads, and large internal temperature gradients, which would result in various complex failures. Therefore, it is important to unveil these failure mechanisms to minimize and even prevent them for obvious reasons. Strain/stress evolution between different layers and foreign material erosion are the main failure mechanisms of thermal barrier coatings, which are well suited to be investigated using synchrotron X-ray diffraction. With its tunable energy, high flux, and many other advantages, synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction has become an advanced non-destructive characterization technique for engineering materials yielding important information including their compositions and residual stress which also provides spatial and temporal resolution that is vital for understanding their service performance. This paper presents a concise review of the applications of synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction in investigating thermal barrier coatings to explore their failure mechanisms.

Precise measurement of the binding activity changes of therapeutic antibodies is important to determine the potential critical quality attributes (CQAs) in developability assessment at the early stage of antibody development. Here, we report a surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based relative binding activity method, which incorporates both binding affinity and binding response and allows us to determine relative binding activity of antibodies with high accuracy and precision. We applied the SPR-based relative binding activity method in multiple forced degradation studies of antibody developability assessment. The current developability assessment strategy provided comprehensive, precise characterization of antibody binding activity in the stability studies, enabling us to perform correlation analysis and establish the structure–function relationship between relative binding activity and quality attributes. The impact of a given quality attribute on binding activity could be confidently determined without isolating antibody variants. We identified several potential CQAs, including Asp isomerization, Asn deamidation, and fragmentation. Some potential CQAs affected binding affinity of antibody and resulted in a reduction of binding activity. Certain potential CQAs impaired antibody binding to antigen and led to a loss of binding activity. A few potential CQAs could influence both binding affinity and binding response and cause a substantial decrease in antibody binding activity. Specifically, we identified low abundance Asn33 deamidation in the light chain complementarity-determining region as a potential CQA, in which all the stressed antibody samples showed Asn33 deamidation abundances ranging from 4.2% to 27.5% and a mild binding affinity change from 1.76 nM to 2.16 nM.

Abstract Evaporation duct anomalies are always present above various oceanic processes, and their response to ubiquitous mesoscale eddies in the Kuroshio Extension region is quantitatively analyzed for the first time in this study using a synthetic analysis method based on reanalysis data sets and eddy trajectory data sets. The results indicated that the spatial distribution of evaporation duct anomalies is characterized by a monopole pattern, mainly modulated by the amplitude of anticyclonic eddies (AEs) and by the radius of cyclonic eddies (CEs). For AEs, the coupling strength is 0.7 m (2.9 M) per meter increase in amplitude, while for CEs, the coupling strength is 0.2 m (0.6 M) per 100 km increase in radius for the average evaporation duct height anomalies (evaporation duct strength anomalies) within the radius range. The modulation of evaporation duct anomalies by eddies is further examined.

Backgrounds: Pelvic organ prolapse commonly affects the upper two-thirds of the vagina. However, evaluating this region in its normal position presents challenges. This study aimed to assess the anatomical axis of this vaginal segment using pelvic magnetic resonance imaging measurements. Methods: A retrospective study of 614 hospitalized women from two hospitals, who were rigorously screened to exclude those with Pelvic Organ Prolapse or known anatomical variations (median age: 43 years, range: 17–76 years). Two reference lines were used: the pubococcygeal line (PCL) and a line from the inferior pubic symphysis to the third sacral vertebra (PS3L). Distances between the distal, middle, and apical points of the upper vagina and the reference lines, as well as the angles between the upper vagina and the reference lines, were measured. Comparisons were made among different age groups. Results: The median distances from the distal, middle, and apical vaginal points to the PCL were 0.4 ​cm (interquartile range [IQR]: 0.0–0.7 ​cm), 2.1 ​cm (IQR: 1.7–2.5 ​cm) and 3.1 ​cm (IQR: 2.5–3.7 ​cm), respectively. The median PCL-vaginal angle was 29.0° (IQR: 23.0–34.0°). The median distances from the distal, middle, and apical vaginal points to the PS3L were -0.5 ​cm (IQR: -0.9–0.0 ​cm), 0.0 ​cm (IQR: -0.4–0.6 ​cm), and -0.2 ​cm (IQR: -0.9– 0.0 ​cm), respectively. The median PS3L-vaginal angle was 0.0° (IQR: -4.0–7.0°). In network data analysis, one of the important problems is determining if two collections of networks are drawn from the same distribution. This problem can be modeled in the framework of two-sample hypothesis testing. Several graph-based two-sample tests have been studied. However, the methods mainly focus on binary graphs, and many real-world networks are weighted. In this paper, we apply empirical likelihood to test the difference in two populations of weighted networks. We derive the limiting distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis. We use simulation experiments to evaluate the power of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed test has satisfactory performance. Then, we apply the proposed method to a biological dataset.

Accurate classification of ground-based auroral images is essential for studying variations in auroral morphology and uncovering magnetospheric mechanisms. However, distinguishing subtle morphological differences among different categories of auroral images presents a significant challenge. To excavate more discriminative information from ground-based auroral images, a novel method named learning representative channel attention information from second-order statistics (LRCAISS) is proposed. The LRCAISS is highlighted with two innovative techniques: a second-order convolutional network and a novel second-order channel attention block. The LRCAISS extends from Resnet50 architecture by incorporating a second-order convolutional network to capture more detailed statistical representation. Meanwhile, the novel second-order channel attention block effectively recalibrates these features. LACAISS is evaluated on two public ground-based auroral image datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate that LRCAISS achieves competitive performance compared to existing methods.

Sea surface temperature (SST) is an important factor in the marine environment and has significant impacts on climate, ecology, and maritime activities. Most existing SST prediction methods consider the ocean as a uniform field and use a uniform grid to predict SST. However, the marine environment is a complex system, and factors such as solar radiation, differences in land and sea thermal properties, and ocean circulation lead to uneven spatial distributions of SSTs. We propose a non-uniform grid construction method based on an SST spatial gradient to encode SST data, as well as a Non-uniform Grid Graph Convolutional Network (NGGCN) model. The NGGCN consists of two spatiotemporal modules, each of which extracts spatial features from the GCN module, captures temporal correlations through the GRU module, and performs feature restoration and output results through the fully connected module. We selected data from the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea to validate the effectiveness of the NGGCN in predicting SST at different time scales and prediction steps. The results indicate that our model shows a significant improvement in prediction performance compared to other models.

The distribution of forest-dominant tree species is crucial for ecosystem assessment. Remote sensing monitoring requires annual ground sample data, but consistent field surveys are challenging. This study addresses this by combining sample migration learning and machine learning for multi-year tree species classification in the Three Gorges Reservoir area in China. Using the continuous change detection and classification (CCDC) algorithm, sample data from 2023 were successfully migrated to 2018–2022, achieving high migration accuracy (R2 = 0.8303, RMSE = 4.64). Based on migrated samples, random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and extreme gradient boosting (XGB) algorithms classified forest tree species with overall accuracies above 70% and Kappa coefficients above 0.6. XGB. They outperformed other algorithms, with classification accuracy of over 80% and Kappa above 0.75 in almost all years. The final map indicates stable distribution from 2018 to 2023, with eucalyptus covering over 40% of the forest area, followed by horsetail pine, fir, cypress, and wetland pine.

Taxus chinensis var. mairei is an endangered tree species endemic to China; it has important ornamental, timber, and medicinal value. In this work, based on a MaxEnt model, the Jiangnan hilly region was used as the study area, and geographic, climatic, soil, and vegetation data were synthesized to simulate the present area of suitable habitat for T. chinensis; the key environmental factors that constrain its habitat expansion were also explored. Additionally, the potential future distribution of this species under different climate-change scenarios was predicted. The results showed that the six variables making the highest contribution to T. chinensis habitat suitability were the precipitation of the warmest quarter (14.2%), precipitation seasonality variation coefficient (9.1%), aspect (8.2%), altitude (8%), maximum temperature of the warmest month (7.4%), and base saturation (6.6%). Ideal areas have middle elevations, northeastern or northwestern slopes, warmest quarterly precipitation of 508.3–629.2 mm, maximum temperature in the warmest month of 34.6–35.9 °C, and relatively moist soil. The current area of suitable habitat is 6.09 × 105 km2, of which the area of high suitability is 7.56 × 104 km2; this is mainly concentrated in the southwestern part of Hunan, the southwestern part of Jiangxi Province, and the northern part of Zhejiang. Under the SSP2-4.5 climate scenario, the area of high habitat suitability increases; under both the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 climate scenarios, the suitable habitat area expands similarly. The direction of the center-of-mass migration of T. chinensis under different climate scenarios is somewhat different from that caused by the uncertainty of human activities and climate warming. This paper clarifies the distribution of suitable habitat and future potential for T. chinensis in the Jiangnan hilly region, providing a theoretical basis for habitat management of this species.

Abstract In this work, inspired by the definition of the photon surface given by Claudel, Virbhadra, and Ellis, we give an alternative quasi-local definition to study the circular orbits of single-pole particles. This definition does not only apply to photons but also to massive point particles. For the case of photons in spherically symmetric spacetime, it will give a photon surface equivalent to the result of Claudel, Virbhadra, and Ellis. Meanwhile, in general static and stationary spacetime, this definition can be regarded as a quasi-local form of the effective potential method. However, unlike the effective potential method which can not define the effective potential in dynamical spacetime, this definition can be applied to dynamical spacetime. Further, we generalize this definition directly to the case of pole–dipole particles. In static spherical symmetry spacetime, we verify the correctness of this generalization by comparing the results obtained by the effective potential method.

This paper addresses the issue of the frequent collision and grinding of rolling elements in cageless bearings during operation by proposing a method to calculate the total circumferential clearance. The calculation is based on the maximum orbital speed difference in the bearing rolling elements to determine the minimum clearance needed to prevent collision. The study analyzes the impact of the rolling element diameter, bearing pitch diameter, contact angle, and number of rolling elements on the total circumferential clearance. The discussion then focuses on optimizing the number of rolling elements in cageless bearings. The optimization results demonstrate that the proposed calculation reduces collisions between rolling elements and bearing stress. Additionally, a total circumferential clearance test was conducted on a logarithmic spiral bearing, showing significant improvements in wear, average temperature, and temperature rise when designed according to the method presented in this article. These findings offer valuable insights into the design of cageless bearings.

Elevational climatic heterogeneity, complex terrains, and varying subsurface properties affect the sensitivity of evapotranspiration (ET) in dryland mountain forests to hydrometeorological changes. However, the elevational distribution of ET sensitivity and its major influencing factors remain poorly understood. This study focused on the mid-altitude zone (1000–3500 m) forests in the Chinese Western Tianshan Mountains and assessed ET sensitivity to multiple climate variables, including precipitation (P) and potential evapotranspiration (PET), from 2000 to 2020. To evaluate the multi-year mean and trends in ET sensitivity, multi-source remote sensing data and regional survey data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient, the sliding window method, and Kendall’s test. Furthermore, the relative importance of environmental variables (topography, geology, soil, and vegetation) was investigated. P and PET showed no significant trends, while ET exhibited a significant increasing trend (5.81 mm/yr, p < 0.01), particularly at elevations above 2000 m. Most forests (93.5%) showed a positive sensitivity of ET to P, and 70.0% showed a positive sensitivity of ET to PET, mainly at elevations of 1500–2500 m. Additionally, the trend in ET sensitivity to P decreased with an increasing elevation, with 64.5% showing a positive trend. Meanwhile, the trend in ET sensitivity to PET increased with elevation, with 88.1% showing a positive trend. Notably, 53.2% of the forests showed increasing ET sensitivity trends to both P and PET, primarily at elevations of 2000–3000 m with a mean normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of 0.56. Geological factors, particularly the hydrological properties of weathered bedrock, contributed the most (~47%) to mean sensitivity. However, geological and vegetative factors, including the NDVI and root zone water availability, were the main contributors (35% each) to the sensitivity. This study highlights the elevation-dependent sensitivity of dryland mountain forests to hydrothermal changes, with higher-elevation forests (>2000 m) being more sensitive to global warming.

A UAV infrared target detection model ITD-YOLOv8 based on YOLOv8 is proposed to address the issues of model missed and false detections caused by complex ground background and uneven target scale in UAV aerial infrared image target detection, as well as high computational complexity. Firstly, an improved YOLOv8 backbone feature extraction network is designed based on the lightweight network GhostHGNetV2. It can effectively capture target feature information at different scales, improving target detection accuracy in complex environments while remaining lightweight. Secondly, the VoVGSCSP improves model perceptual abilities by referencing global contextual information and multiscale features to enhance neck structure. At the same time, a lightweight convolutional operation called AXConv is introduced to replace the regular convolutional module. Replacing traditional fixed-size convolution kernels with convolution kernels of different sizes effectively reduces the complexity of the model. Then, to further optimize the model and reduce missed and false detections during object detection, the CoordAtt attention mechanism is introduced in the neck of the model to weight the channel dimensions of the feature map, allowing the network to pay more attention to the important feature information, thereby improving the accuracy and robustness of object detection. Finally, the implementation of XIoU as a loss function for boundary boxes enhances the precision of target localization. The experimental findings demonstrate that ITD-YOLOv8, in comparison to YOLOv8n, effectively reduces the rate of missed and false detections for detecting multi-scale small targets in complex backgrounds. Additionally, it achieves a 41.9% reduction in model parameters and a 25.9% decrease in floating-point operations. Moreover, the mean accuracy (mAP) attains an impressive 93.5%, thereby confirming the model’s applicability for infrared target detection on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Abstract The relationship between hysterectomy and ovarian preservation and depression is controversial. This study aimed to determine the association of hysterectomy and ovarian preservation with depression using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. To assess the association between hysterectomy with or without ovariectomy and depression, we used 3 methods. Method 1: propensity score model (PSM) was established. Method 2 was logistics regression analysis of hysterectomy and depression before and after PSM. Method 3 was a logistics regression analysis of the relationship between hysterectomy and different depressive symptoms. At the same time, in order to evaluate the association between hysterectomy with or without oophorectomy and depression, we explored the effect of four different surgical procedures on depression using logistic regression equations. We enrolled 12,097 women, of whom 2763 underwent hysterectomy, 34.455% were positive for depression. After weighting, 33.825% of the total sample had a PHQ ≥ 5. Finally, a total of 2778 women were successfully matched by propensity score, and 35.537% of them were positive for depression. The OR for PHQ ≥ 5 was 1.236 after crude adjustment of covariates and 1.234 after exact adjustment. This suggests that Hysterectomy is strongly associated with positive depression. Positive depression (PHQ ≥ 5) was associated with little interest, feeling down and trouble concentrating. It was not associated with trouble sleeping, feeling tired, poor appetite, feeling bad, slow moving or speaking, and suicidal thoughts. Oophorectomy-alone is not associated with depression. Hysterectomy-alone is a risk factor for depression, but Hysterectomy combined with Oophorectomy has a stronger correlation with depression than Hysterectomy-alone. Women who have had a Hysterectomy are at higher risk of depression than women who have not had a Hysterectomy, and this risk may be exacerbated if the uterus and ovaries are removed. When clinically appropriate, surgeons should try to preserve the patient's ovaries.

Abstract Background The long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are critical regulators of diverse biological processes. Nevertheless, a global view of its expression and function in the mouse retina, a crucial model for neurogenesis study, still needs to be made available. Results Herein, by integrating the established gene models and the result from ab initio prediction using short- and long-read sequencing, we characterized 4,523 lncRNA genes (MRLGs) in developing mouse retinas (from the embryonic day of 12.5 to the neonatal day of P28), which was so far the most comprehensive collection of retinal lncRNAs. Next, derived from transcriptomics analyses of different tissues and developing retinas, we found that the MRLGs were highly spatiotemporal specific in expression and played essential roles in regulating the genesis and function of mouse retinas. In addition, we investigated the expression of MRLGs in some mouse mutants and revealed that 97 intergenic MRLGs might be involved in regulating differentiation and development of retinal neurons through Math5, Isl1, Brn3b, NRL, Onecut1, or Onecut2 mediated pathways. Conclusions In summary, this work significantly enhanced our knowledge of lncRNA genes in mouse retina development and provided valuable clues for future exploration of their biological roles.

China's markets gained 3.86% around December 4, 2012, when the Party announced anti-corruption reforms. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) with higher past entertainment and travel costs (ETC) gained more. NonSOEs gained in more liberalized provinces, especially those with high past ETC, productivity, growth opportunities, and external financing. NonSOEs lost in the least liberalized provinces, especially those with high past ETC. These findings support investors' expect reduced official corruption to create value overall, reduce SOE waste, lower bureaucratic barriers to efficient resource allocation where markets function, and impede business in unliberalized provinces, where “getting things done” still requires investment in greasing bureaucratic gears.

Nitrification inhibitors (NIs) have been widely applied to inhibit nitrification and reduce N2O emissions in agriculture. However, there are still some shortcomings, e.g. short effective periods, large applying amounts, low effectiveness, easy deactivation and different effect. Thus, a nitrapyrin microcapsule suspension (CPCS) was used as a new experimental material to elaborate its effects on nitrogen transformation and microbial response mechanisms in black soil by cultivation experiments with six treatments of no fertilization (CK), urea, urea+ 0.2 % CPES, urea+ 0.1 % CPCS, urea+ 0.2 % CPCS, and urea+ 0.3 % CPCS. The content of ammonium, nitrate nitrogen, functional microbial activity, degradation rate and adsorption characteristics of CPCS in the soil at different incubating times were determine. Compared with the nitrapyrin emulsifiable concentrate (CPEC) treatment, the degradation rate of CPCS decreased by 21.54 %, the half-life increased by 10.2 days, and the adsorption rate of nitrapyrin on black soil decreased more than 6-fold. CPCS effectively inhibited the transformation of ammonium nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen within more than 42 days. CPCS had a negative effect on amoA gene abundance and a positive effect on nrfA gene abundance. The research results provide a basic theoretical support for the application of CPCS on black soil.

Spiral fibers were considered to be an ideal toughening phase of ultra-high torsional release effect. In this work, ZrB2 (Z)–20 vol% SiC (S) spiral fiber (ZSsf) with controllable structure was prepared by a combination approach of liquid rope effect and non-solvent-induced phase separation. Dominantly depended on the kinematic viscosity (η), dropping height (H), and flow rate (Q), the geometric parameters of ZSsf involving filament diameter (d) and coil diameter (D) were followed the relationship of d ≈ 0.516×10−3Q1/2H−1/4 and D ≈ 0.25×10–3(Q/H)1/3, respectively, within the optimized η of 10–15 Pa·s. Three different microstructures of ZSsf were achieved by adjusting the polymer/solvent/non-solvent system assisted with phase diagram calculation, including dense, hollow, and hierarchical pore structures. The ZrB2–SiC with 1 wt% ZSsf composites prepared by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) exhibited a ~30% increase in fracture toughness (KIC, 4.41 MPa·m1/2) compared with the ZrB2–SiC composite, where the microscopic fracture toughness of the ZSsf was ~80% higher than that of the matrix. The fibers with a ~10 nm in-situ-synthesized graphite phase amongst grain boundaries of ZrB2 and SiC changed the fracture mode, and promoted the crack deflection and pull-out adjacent the interface of matrix and the fiber.

Pressure vessels having the structure of a cylindrical shell with a tangential nozzle are often used in engineering for some process requirements. But there are no accurate methods in engineering codes for the strength design of this special structure. In this paper, the limit–load analysis was performed to evaluate the weakening effects of the tangential nozzles on the strength of the cylindrical shells under internal pressure. A so-called strength–weakening coefficient was defined to reflect the weakening degree of the load-bearing capacity of the cylindrical shells by the tangential nozzles or specifically by the three dimensionless structural parameters, namely diameter ratio (do/Di), diameter-thickness ratio (Di/T) and thickness ratio (t/T). Results show that when increasing do/Di and Di/T or decreasing t/T, the strength–weakening coefficient increases, which means that the strength–weakening effect of the tangential nozzle on the cylindrical shell increases. With sufficient simulation results, regression equations for the strength–weakening coefficient were obtained which provides a reference for the strength design of cylindrical shells with tangential nozzles under internal pressure.

In order to realize the measurement of three-axis acceleration, pressure, and magnetic field, monolithic integrated three-axis acceleration/pressure/magnetic field sensors are proposed in this paper. The proposed sensors were constructed with an acceleration sensor consisting of four L-shaped double beams, two masses, middle double-beams, and twelve piezoresistors, a pressure sensor made of a square silicon membrane, and four piezoresistors, as well as a magnetic field sensor composed of five Hall elements. COMSOL software and TCAD-Atlas software were used to simulate characteristics of integrated sensors, and analyze the working principles of the sensors in measuring acceleration, pressure, and magnetic field. The integrated sensors were fabricated by using micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology and packaged by using inner lead bonding technology. When applying a working voltage of 5 V at room temperature, it is possible for the proposed sensors to achieve the acceleration sensitivities of 3.58 mV/g, 2.68 mV/g, and 9.45 mV/g along the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis (through an amplifying circuit), and the sensitivities towards pressure and magnetic field are 0.28 mV/kPa and 22.44 mV/T, respectively. It is shown that the proposed sensors can measure three-axis acceleration, pressure, and magnetic field.

The Coupled Ocean–Atmosphere–Wave–Sediment Transport (COAWST) model serves as the foundation for creating a forecast model to detect lower atmospheric ducts in this study. A set of prediction tests with different forecasting times focusing on the South China Sea domain was conducted to evaluate the short-term forecasting effectiveness of lower atmospheric ducts. The assessment of sounding observation data revealed that the prediction model performed well in predicting the characteristics of all types of ducts. The mean values of the forecasting errors were slightly lower than the reanalysis data but had lower levels of correlation coefficients. At an altitude of about 2000 m, the forecasted error of modified atmospheric refractivity reached peak values and then decreased gradually with increasing altitude. The accuracy of forecasted surface ducts was higher than that of elevated ducts. Noticeable land–sea differences were identified for the spatial distributions of duct characteristics, and the occurrence rates of both the surface and elevated ducts were high at sea. As for the differences among the forecasts of 24, 48, and 72 h ahead, the differences primarily occurred at altitude levels below 20 m and 500 m~1500 m, which are consistent with the differences in the duct height.

The health assessment of lithium-ion batteries holds great research significance in various areas such as battery management systems, battery usage and maintenance, and battery economic evaluation. However, because environmental perturbations are not taken into account during the assessment, the accuracy and reliability of the assessment are limited. Thus, a health assessment model for lithium-ion batteries based on evidence reasoning rules with dynamic reference value (ER-DRV) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, considering that the data are subject to changes, dynamic reference values, real-time weights, and real-time reliability were utilized in the model to ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of the assessment. Moreover, an enhanced optimization method based on the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) was developed to improve the accuracy of the assessment model. In addition, the robustness of the ER-DRV model was studied with perturbation analysis methods. Finally, the proposed method was validated on two open lithium-ion battery datasets. The experimental results show that the health assessment method proposed in this article not only has higher accuracy and transparent reasoning process but also has strong robustness and good generalization ability.

Unlike most studies on urban innovation, which focus on the effects of land-use policies, this study investigates the effect of urban innovation (UI) on land finance dependence (LFD). In China, innovation-related policies are intended to create a shared business environment where new entrepreneurs can contribute to achieving sustainable economic growth. This study analyzes the spatiotemporal dynamics of LFD and UI from 2005 to 2019 using the spatial autocorrelation model and dynamic spatial Durbin model. It finds a positive spatial association between LFD and UI throughout the studied regions during the study period. It also reveals a significant inhibitory effect of UI on LFD and a negative impact on the LFD of neighbouring cities. Moreover, the inhibitory effects will increase over time. Lastly, this study shows varied impacts of UI on LFD in different regions, especially in eastern China. Important policy recommendations for high-quality development in China are provided.

Cytokines are pivotal mediators of cell communication in the tumor microenvironment. Multiple cytokines are involved in the host antitumor response, but the production and function of these cytokines are usually dysregulated during malignant tumor progression. Considering their clinical potential and the early successful use of cytokines in cancer immunotherapy, such as interferon alpha-2b (IFNα-2b; IntronA®) and IL-2 (Proleukin®), cytokine-based therapeutics have been extensively evaluated in many follow-up clinical trials. Following these initial breakthroughs, however, clinical translation of these natural messenger molecules has been greatly limited owing to their high-degree pleiotropic features and complex biological properties in many cell types. These characteristics, coupled with poor pharmacokinetics (a short half-life), have hampered the delivery of cytokines via systemic administration, particularly because of severe dose-limiting toxicities. New engineering approaches have been developed to widen the therapeutic window, prolong pharmacokinetic effects, enhance tumor targeting and reduce adverse effects, thereby improving therapeutic efficacy. In this review, we focus on the recent progress and competitive landscape in cytokine engineering strategies and preclinical/clinical therapeutics for cancer. In addition, aiming to promote engineered cytokine-based cancer immunotherapy, we present a profound discussion about the feasibility of recently developed methods in clinical medicine translation.

Long-term tectonic movements have shaped the geomorphological features and hydrothermal conditions of mountains, influencing their vegetation growth patterns in both positive and negative ways. However, little is known about the effect of fault development on the spatio-temporal variation in vegetation along the elevation gradient in mountainous regions. To address this issue of montane tectonic ecology, this study selected the tectonically active mid-altitude zone (1000–3500 m) of the Chinese Western Tianshan Mountains. The role of tectonics is investigated by fault length density maps calculated from zonal statistics of region-scale fault survey data (1:250,000). The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was chosen as an indicator to analyze the growth status of vegetation. The spatial distribution of fault length density, elevational, and interannual characteristics of the NDVIs from 2000 to 2020 and their relationships along the elevation gradient were investigated. The results show that the faulting zone accounts for 32.6% of the study area and the high faulting zone exhibits a unimodal distribution along the elevation gradient, with the maximum occurring at elevations of approximately 2000 m. The NDVIs of forests and high-coverage grassland show a unimodal distribution with elevation, with the maximum occurring at elevations of approximately 2000 m, coinciding with that of fault length density. In the elevation range of 1000–2500 m, the NDVI of the faulting zone is lower than that of the non-faulting zone, whereas that of the elevation range of 2500–3500 m is higher—a difference that is particularly evident in forests. This elevation-dependent contrasting effect of faults on vegetation growth could be attributed to more favorable hydrothermal conditions for vegetation in fault valleys and reduced landslide susceptibility with increasing elevation. This study highlights the need to consider fault distribution in understanding vegetation distribution and growth in tectonically active mountains.

The inversion of acoustic field data to estimate geoacoustic parameters has been a prominent research focus in the field of underwater acoustics for several decades. Modal-dispersion curves have been used to inverse seabed sound speed and density profiles, but such techniques do not account for attenuation inversion. In this study, a new approach where modal-dispersion and waveform envelope data are simultaneously inversed under a multi-objective framework is proposed. The inversion is performed using the Multi-Objective Bayesian Optimization (MOBO) method. The posterior probability densities (PPD) of the estimation results are obtained by resampling from the exploited state space using the Gibbs Sampler. In this study, the implemented MOBO approach is compared with individual inversions both from modal-dispersion curves and the waveform data. In addition, the effective use of the Wasserstein metric from optimal transport theory is explored. Then the MOBO performance is tested against two different cost functions based on the L2 norm and the Wasserstein metric, respectively. Numerical experiments are employed to evaluate the effect of different cost functions on inversion performance. It is found that the MOBO approach may have more profound advantages when applied to Wasserstein metrics. Results obtained from our study reveal that the MOBO approach exhibits reduced uncertainty in the inverse results when compared to individual inversion methods, such as modal-dispersion inversion or waveform inversion. However, it is important to note that this enhanced uncertainty reduction comes at the cost of sacrificing accuracy in certain parameters other than the sediment sound speed and attenuation.

Abstract Background Motor aphasia after stroke is a common and intractable complication of stroke. Acupuncture and language training may be an alternative and effective approach. However, the efficacy of acupuncture and language training for motor aphasia after stroke has not been confirmed. The main objectives of this trial are to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture and low-intensity, low-dose language training in treating ischemic motor aphasia after stroke from 15 to 90 days. Methods This is a multicenter randomized sham-controlled clinical trial. We will allocate 252 subjects aged between 45 and 75 years diagnosed with motor aphasia after stroke with an onset time ranging from 15 to 90 days into two groups randomly in a 1:1 ratio. Patients in the experimental group will be treated with “Xing-Nao Kai-Qiao” acupuncture therapy plus language training, and those in the control group will be treated with sham-acupoint (1 cun next to the acupoints) acupuncture therapy plus language training. All the patients will be given acupuncture and language training for 6 weeks, with a follow-up evaluation 6 weeks after the end of the treatment and 6 months after the onset time. The patients will mainly be evaluated using the Western Aphasia Battery and Chinese Functional Communication Profile, and the incidence of treatment-related adverse events at the 2nd, 4th, and 6th weeks of treatment will be recorded. The baseline characteristics of the patients will be summarized by group, the chi-squared test will be used to compare categorical variables, and repeated measures of analysis of variance or a linear mixed model will be applied to analyze the changes measured at different time points. Discussion The present study is designed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of traditional acupuncture therapy and language training in ischemic motor aphasia after stroke and explore the correlation between the treatment time and clinical effect of acupuncture. We hope our results will help doctors understand and utilize acupuncture combined with language training. Trial registration ChiCTR ChiCTR1900026740 . Registered on 20 October 2019

Abstract Background The conversion of astrocytes activated by nerve injuries to oligodendrocytes is not only beneficial to axonal remyelination, but also helpful for reversal of glial scar. Recent studies have shown that pathological niche promoted the Sox10-mediated astrocytic transdifferentiation to oligodendrocytes. The extracellular factors underlying the cell fate switching are not known. Methods Astrocytes were obtained from mouse spinal cord dissociation culture and purified by differential adherent properties. The lineage conversion of astrocytes into oligodendrocyte lineage cells was carried out by Sox10-expressing virus infection both in vitro and in vivo, meanwhile, epidermal growth factor (EGF) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor Gefitinib were adopted to investigate the function of EGF signaling in this fate transition process. Pharmacological inhibition analyses were performed to examine the pathway connecting the EGF with the expression of oligodendrogenic genes and cell fate transdifferentiation. Results EGF treatment facilitated the Sox10-induced transformation of astrocytes to O4+ induced oligodendrocyte precursor cells (iOPCs) in vitro. The transdifferentiation of astrocytes to iOPCs went through two distinct but interconnected processes: (1) dedifferentiation of astrocytes to astrocyte precursor cells (APCs); (2) transformation of APCs to iOPCs, EGF signaling was involved in both processes. And EGF triggered astrocytes to express oligodendrogenic genes Olig1 and Olig2 by activating extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2 (Erk1/2) pathway. In addition, we discovered that EGF can enhance astrocyte transdifferentiation in injured spinal cord tissues. Conclusions These findings provide strong evidence that EGF facilitates the transdifferentiation of astrocytes to oligodendrocytes, and suggest that targeting the EGF-EGFR-Erk1/2 signaling axis may represent a novel therapeutic strategy for myelin repair in injured central nervous system (CNS) tissues.

Cancer-induced bone pain (CIBP) has a considerable impact on patients’ quality of life as well as physical and mental health. At present, patients with CIBP are managed according to the three-step analgesic therapy algorithm proposed by the World Health Organization. Opioids are commonly used as the first-line treatment for moderate-to-severe cancer pain but are limited due to addiction, nausea, vomiting and other gastrointestinal side effects. Moreover, opioids have a limited analgesic effect in some patients. In order to optimize the management of CIBP, we must first identify the underlying mechanisms. In some patients, surgery, or surgery combined with radiotherapy or radiofrequency ablation is the first step in the management of CIBP. Various clinical studies have shown that anti-nerve growth factor (NGF) antibodies, bisphosphonates, or RANKL inhibitors can reduce the incidence and improve the management of cancer pain. Herein, we review the mechanisms of cancer pain and potential therapeutic strategies to provide insights for optimizing the management of CIBP.

Competence beliefs, career values, and perceptions regarding teaching as a profession have important implications for preservice teachers' professional development. Longitudinal research concerning the development of preservice teachers' competence beliefs, values, and perceptions of teaching remains scarce. We investigated a sample of 270 Chinese preservice teachers on three measurement occasions. The expectancy-value theory framework was employed as a theoretical framework. We first tested the longitudinal measurement invariance of the FIT-Choice scale and then examined the growth trajectories of preservice teachers’ competence beliefs, career values, and perceptions of teaching as a profession over time. The results showed that the FIT-Choice scale was characterized by longitudinal measurement invariance. The Chinese preservice teachers included in our sample exhibited an overall decline in the growth trajectories of values (e.g., social utility value) and perceptions of teaching (e.g., expertise, social status, salary, and career choice satisfaction) over time, with the exception of their perceptions of difficulty, which exhibited an overall increase over time. Their initial levels of all types of values and perception constructs exhibited individual variability. We did not find individual differences in the development of the constructs that we studied. Practical implications are discussed.

With the continuous development of information technology and the continuous progress of traffic bandwidth, the types and methods of network attacks have become more complex, posing a great threat to the large-scale campus network environment. To solve this problem, a network traffic anomaly detection model based on subspace information entropy flow matrix and a subspace anomaly weight clustering network traffic anomaly detection model combined with density anomaly weight and clustering ideas are proposed. Under the two test sets of public dataset and collected campus network data information of a university, the detection performance of the proposed anomaly detection method is compared with other anomaly detection algorithm models. The results show that the proposed detection model is superior to other models in speed and accuracy under the open dataset. And the two traffic anomaly detection models proposed in the study can well complete the task of network traffic anomaly detection under the large-scale campus network environment.

The extremely soft coal seam roadway has the problems of low surrounding rock strength and difficult support. Based on the engineering background of the mining roadway in the extremely soft coal seam of the Quandian coal mine, this paper adopts the research method combining numerical simulation and field measurement. The stress field, displacement field, support force, and loading arch structure characteristics of roadway surrounding rock under bolt-mesh-cable support and existing shed-cable support are compared, and the control principle of bolt-mesh-cable in extremely soft coal seam roadway is expounded. Our study indicated that compared with nonsupport and shed-cable support, the pressure stress range of the surrounding rock in extremely soft coal seam increases, and the stress gradient decreases when bolt-mesh-cable support is used. The roadway displacement and displacement difference decrease. The components of the support achieve stress coordination. The thickness of the loading arch formed in the surrounding rock is large, and the compressive stress in the arch is evenly distributed. The bolt-mesh-cable significantly improves the stress environment and the stability of the roadway. The field practice shows that the roadway deformation is small after the bolt-mesh-cable support is adopted, and the roadway section during excavation and mining meets the requirements of safety production.

The evaporation duct is a special atmospheric stratification that can affect the propagation path of electromagnetic waves at sea, thus it is crucial for the ability of the radio communication systems. The traditional theoretical models of the evaporation duct often have limited accuracy. The actual observational data from voyages and stations are insufficient, and the existing data-driven evaporation duct height prediction models can only predict a particular point or route but cannot reproduce the regional distribution of the evaporation duct. To address these issues, we propose NWPP-EDH model in this work. The fitting ability of the NWPP-EDH model was tested. Its accuracy was compared with that of the Babin–Young–Carton model, Musson–Gauthier–Bruth model, and the classical Naval Postgraduate School model; compared to these models, the root mean square error (RMSE) of NWPP-EDH model was reduced by 71.8%, 87%, and 60.9%, respectively. Thus, we find that the model shows a better performance than the existing theoretical models.

Abstract Stroke is the second leading cause globally that leads to severe disability and death. Stem cell therapy has been developed over the recent years to treat stroke and diminish the mortality and disability rate of brain injuries. Acupuncture, which can activate endogenous recovery via physical stimuli, has been applied to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of stroke patients. Attempts have been made to combine stem cell therapy and acupuncture to treat stroke patients and have shown the promising results. This prospective review will look into the possible mechanisms of stem cell therapy and acupuncture and intend to undercover the potential benefit of the combined therapy. It intends to bridge the modern emerging stem cell therapy and traditional acupuncture at cellular and molecular levels and to demonstrate the potential benefit to improve clinical outcomes.

YSZ is a promising material for resistive memory devices due to its high concentration of oxygen vacancies, which provide the high anion migration rates crucial for the manifestation of resistance switching in metal oxides. Therefore, investigating the ionic conductivity of YSZ is an important issue. The ionic conductivity and thermal stability of 8 mol% YSZ were studied using the theories and methods of solid-state physics and physical chemistry. The impact of anomalous atomic vibrations on the material was also explored, and the variation in the ion vibration frequency, electrical conductivity, and thermal stability coefficient of electrical conductivity with temperature was obtained. The results show that the ion conductivity of an 8 mol% YSZ solid electrolyte increases nonlinearly with temperature, with a smaller increase at lower temperatures and a larger increase at higher temperatures. Considering the anharmonic effect of ion vibrations, the electrolyte conductivity is higher than the result of the harmonic approximation, and the anharmonic effect becomes more significant at higher temperatures. Our research fills the gap in the current literature regarding the theoretical non-harmonic exploration of the ion conductivity and thermal stability factor of YSZ solid electrolytes. These results provide valuable theoretical guidance for the development and application of high-performance YSZ resistive memory devices in high-temperature environments.

The detection of infrared vehicle targets by UAVs poses significant challenges in the presence of complex ground backgrounds, high target density, and a large proportion of small targets, which result in high false alarm rates. To alleviate these deficiencies, a novel YOLOv7-based, multi-scale target detection method for infrared vehicle targets is proposed, which is termed YOLO-ViT. Firstly, within the YOLOV7-based framework, the lightweight MobileViT network is incorporated as the feature extraction backbone network to fully extract the local and global features of the object and reduce the complexity of the model. Secondly, an innovative C3-PANet neural network structure is delicately designed, which adopts the CARAFE upsampling method to utilize the semantic information in the feature map and improve the model’s recognition accuracy of the target region. In conjunction with the C3 structure, the receptive field will be increased to enhance the network’s accuracy in recognizing small targets and model generalization ability. Finally, the K-means++ clustering method is utilized to optimize the anchor box size, leading to the design of anchor boxes better suited for detecting small infrared targets from UAVs, thereby improving detection efficiency. The present article showcases experimental findings attained through the use of the HIT-UAV public dataset. The results demonstrate that the enhanced YOLO-ViT approach, in comparison to the original method, achieves a reduction in the number of parameters by 49.9% and floating-point operations by 67.9%. Furthermore, the mean average precision (mAP) exhibits an improvement of 0.9% over the existing algorithm, reaching a value of 94.5%, which validates the effectiveness of the method for UAV infrared vehicle target detection.

Habitat quality has great significance in terms of regional ecological conservation and human welfare. In this study, we evaluated the spatial and temporal characteristics of land use and habitat quality in the temperate desert sub-region of the Ordos Plateau using patch-generating land use simulation (PLUS) and integrated valuation of ecosystem services and trade-offs (InVEST) models. From 2000 to 2020, the areas of grassland, cropland, and unused land in the study area increased significantly; the areas of water bodies and woodland increased slightly; and the area of wasteland decreased significantly. Moreover, the habitat quality in the temperate desert subzone of the Ordos Plateau showed a trend of initial increase and then decrease between 2000 and 2020. The areas of lower and low habitat quality first decreased and then increased, and the overall area decreased over time. Conversely, the areas of high and higher habitat quality initially increased and then decreased, and the overall area increased over time. The area of medium habitat quality first decreased and then increased, although the overall change was minimal. Based on the PLUS model, the predicted habitat quality of the study area in 2025 under the natural development scenario was compared to that predicted under the ecological conservation scenario. The comparison of results showed higher habitat quality and lower habitat degradation under the ecological conservation development scenario. These results can be used to provide a scientific basis and decision reference for the sustainable use of land resources and encouragement of high-quality socio-economic development in the temperate desert sub-region of the Ordos Plateau.

Abstract The penetration of CaO–MgO–Al2O3–SiO2 (CMAS) is one of the most significant factors that induce the failure of air-plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coatings (APS TBCs). The direct penetration of CMAS changes the thermal/mechanical properties of the top coat (TC) layer, which affects the thermal mismatch stress behavior and the growth of thermally grown oxide (TGO) at the TC/bond coat (BC) interface, thereby resulting in a more complicated interface stress state. In the present study, a two-dimensional global model of APS TBCs with half of the TC layer penetrated by CMAS is established to investigate the effect of non-uniform CMAS penetration on the interface stress behavior. Subsequently, a local model extracted from the global model is established to investigate the effects of interface morphologies and CMAS penetration depth. The results show that non-uniform CMAS penetration causes non-uniform TGO growth in APS TBCs, which consequently causes the stress behavior to vary along the interface. Furthermore, the CMAS penetration depth imposes a significant effect on the TC/TGO interface stress behavior, whereas the interface roughness exerts a prominent effect on the stress level at the BC/TGO interface under CMAS penetration. This study reveals the mechanism associated with the effect of non-uniform CMAS penetration on the interface stress behavior in APS TBCSs.

Abstract Background Persistent synovial hyperplasia with inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis is one of the main pathogeneses of refractory rheumatoid arthritis (RRA). Photodynamic therapy (PDT) causes less trauma than steroid injections or arthroscopic synovectomy while providing stronger targeting and more durable curative effects. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the short-, medium-, and long-term clinical efficacy of PDT when applied as a treatment for RRA synovial hyperplasia and synovitis. Methods and analysis This protocol is for a single-center, randomized, double-blind, blank-controlled prospective trial. A sample of 126 RRA patients will be randomly divided into 3 groups: the control group, the “PDT once” group, and the “PDT twice” group, with 42 participants per group. The trial will be conducted by the Rheumatology and Immunology Department of the Integrated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southern Medical University. The Ultrasound Compound Score of Synovitis (UCSS) has been selected as the primary outcome measure. The secondary outcome measures include knee joint clinical assessments, ratio of relapse, duration of remission, Disease Activity Score in 28 joints (DAS28), inflammation indexes, serum concentrations of specific antibodies, and changes in articular structures as detected by X-ray scans in the 48th week. The improvement ratios of the UCSS at the 8th, 24th, and 48th weeks (compared with baseline) reflect short-, medium-, and long-term time frames, respectively. Ethics and dissemination The protocol was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of the Integrated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southern Medical University, China (Approval No. granted by the ethics committee: NFZXYEC-2017-005) and then entered in the Chinese Clinical Trials Registry under registration number ChiCTR1800014918 (approval date: February 21, 2018). All procedures are in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations and with the Declaration of Helsinki by the World Medical Association (WMA). Any modifications of this protocol during execution will need additional approval from the Ethics Committee of our hospital. Trial registration number ChiCTR1800014918 .

ObjectivesWorldwide, around 18.2% of cervical cancer occurred in China, mainly because of lower screening coverage and screening quality in regional disparities. To assess self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, combined with the internet, as a primary cervical cancer screening (CCS) method in low-resource settings, and to establish an internet-based self-sampling CCS-management model.MethodsThe women who participated registered on a CCS website. We recruited 20,136 women, aged 30–59 years, from 13 provinces in China, to perform vaginal self-sampling for HPV testing as a primary CCS, based on the internet. A questionnaire was subsequently used to investigate the acceptability of self-sampling.ResultsOf the 20,103 women with qualified samples, 35.80% lived in remote areas, 37.69% had never undergone CCS, 59.96% were under-screened, and the overall prevalence of a high-risk of HPV was 13.86%. Of 8,136 respondents, 95.97% of women felt that self-sampling was easy to perform, 84.61% had no discomfort when using a self-sampling brush, 62.37% women were more likely to choose self-sampling for CCS in future, and 92.53% were willing to introduce the concept to others around them. The reliability and ease of self-sampling were independent factors influencing selection of self-sampling (p < 0.05).ConclusionsThe Internet-facilitated self-sampling for HPV testing and management model for cervical cancer prevention is feasible and effective. It can be used as a supplement to the conventional screening, particularly in outlying areas with few medical resources, to improve the coverage of CCS.Clinical trial registrationhttps://www.chictr.org.cn, identifier: ChiCTR2000032331.

Atmospheric duct is an anomalous atmospheric structure that affects electromagnetic wave propagation. The important characteristics of the atmospheric ducts include duct probability, duct height, duct strength, and the thickness of the trapping layer. To investigate the statistical characteristics of atmospheric ducts over the American mainland, four stations in different regions are chosen. The seasonal and diurnal variation of the characteristics of ducts is presented. The mechanism of the seasonal and variation of ducts is revealed and the relationship between the characteristics is researched. The duct strength correlates positively with the thickness of the trapping layer, and the duct height correlates with them negatively. Moreover, the duct relationship with precipitation over different stations is clarified. It is found that the precipitation correlates positively with the probability of ducts caused by the vertical moisture gradient, and the relation is negative when the ducts are caused by temperature inversion. This work is of great value to the statistical characteristics of atmospheric ducts over the American mainland.

Herein, ceramic-reinforced CoCrNiMoxCB high-entropy alloy coatings were prepared by laser cladding, and the synergistic improvement of wear and corrosion resistance was realized. The effects of molybdenum on the phases, microstructures, and chemical compositions of the coatings were also studied. Wear mechanisms changed from adhesive wear to abrasive plough with the increase of Mo content, leading to excellent improvement in wear resistance. The corrosion resistance was remarkably improved with excellent passive ability and pitting resistance. Coherent interfaces and composition transition at the interfaces provide a nano-scale explanation for the excellent wear and corrosion trade-off of the Mo-8 coating. The results show that the wear and corrosion resistance of the coatings can be improved with the addition of molybdenum.
